swimming pool
On arrival we were initially assigned a smaller room than we had booked At dinner both nights several things on the menu were not available Breakfast was fine, but cold meats and cheeses were not on the buffet In restaurant we felt staff were always rushed, and service took a long time.
How quiet it was
No health and wellbeing therapist available as said at time of booking .and no recommendations made for alternative.
Staff are always friendly and helpful. Nice pool and grounds. Plenty of space for car parking. Handy to have a restaurant for evening meals.
We emailed the hotel to let them know that we would not be arriving on first night. When we arrived, we were informed the computer booking system had deleted our whole booking of 3 nights because we did not arrive on the first night and the staff had not picked up on our email.
the house was beautiful so so so pretty to look at
the room walls are really thin could hear every time someone spoke, laughed, walking about above us which was very disturbing when trying to sleep
Location
Food quality and service below expected standard (for a 4-star Hotel) Young and inexperienced staff, some of whom lack relevant customer-facing skills. Dining room looks nothing like the fine dining ambience portrayed in the Hotel's website. No proper table setting, various menu choices unavailable, food quality very average (not 4-star!) and standard of service unprofessional. Poor food offering at breakfast - food not suitably replenished to keep hot and fresh, lack of suitable utensils for handling food, tables not cleared once vacated, mainly due to insufficient / inexperienced staff. Room servicing well below standard for a 4-star Hotel - bed not properly made (the duvet had simply been thrown over the bed), tea and coffee supplies had not been replenished, teapot and cups not cleaned from previous use. Room dimly lit - especially wardrobe area. Bathroom heated towel rail not working during our stay, despite reporting this to reception staff.
I think the staff need a little more training. Very friendly no doubt about it. Lovely to relax in the lounge.
Breakfast wasn’t anything to rave about. There wasn’t plates and staff had to be asked numerous times. Glasses for the juice was the same. The dust on the large side board next to food was that bad I wrote clean me!
The location and building is fantastic.
Was very outdated and in need of an uplift.
Nice and relaxing stay 😌
Our room had a window that was really high up so made the room dark but other than that it was fine bed was comfy 😌

Restuarant
The friendliness of the staff. The location is excellent
We expected at a 4 staff hotel that the rooms would be serviced daily. During our 3 daystay nobody emptied our rubbish bin or refilled our refrestment tin so we had to request supplies from reception We had to report that tha sink plug and towel rail did not work. Both were attended to by Joe who was very kind and helpful but the towel rail is still not working. Gayle from housekeeping was also very helpful. We stayed in room 103.
Nice location and decent facilities
There was a bat in the lift - Ukrainian night manager didn’t speak any English and there was no other staff on which isn’t right. Had a right carry on trying to get the manager to do something about the bat. Reception staff on desk the next day was dismissive when I brought it up.
The staff were very polite and friendly. The breakfast was delicious. The saunas pool and in and outdoor hot tub were fantastic too. The bed was very comfy.
Booking advertising the wrong room which left us paying more for what we had. Stock items such as tea spoons in the room; soap dispensers in the swimming pool changing; and juice and milk containers at breakfast were closed to empty. The noise from outside the bedroom window early am due to deliveries and fruity language by drivers? staff.
the location is good with a fine view over extensive lawns. unfortunately none of the bedrooms overlook this best feature, though the Dining room makes good use of it. The room and bed were comfortable and the staff were pleasant enough.
Difficult to put a finger on it since individually all the features were there for a pleasant stay. the overall impression though was underwhelming, so perhaps expectations were too high. The staff seemed somewhat inexperienced (eg forgetting to tell me the wine I'd ordered was not available until I asked when It was coming). The cost of the wine seemed very expensive. But it is a nice setting with much potential.
Very comfortable & clean room
I had to wait a while at reception before any staff came to leave my bags after emailing & calling the property to say i would be arriving eatly as i had a wedding, so This held me Up
Hotel cancelled our booking 10 minutes before our arrival (after a 3 hour drive) due to a leak in our room. They advised all other hotels in the town were sold out. They did not offer any kind of good will gesture, only that we had to sort out replacement bed for the night ourselves. Had to chase up for email confirmation of cancellations to allow us to rebook a new hotel. Then the hotel hadn't actually even processed the cancellation three days later through booking.com. Very poor customer service and would not visit again! Hugely disappointing!
Lovely location and building
En suite bathroom was in need of a good scrub. Hotel in general very scruffy. Dining room short of breakfast glasses and juices. Serving areas all very staticky.
Lovely setting, good price, very quiet, comfortable bed and leisure facilities on site
Bathroom clean but needs upgrade and changing rooms in pool area needs cleaning
Location
Beware Jacuzzi/ht tub out of order.
Poor
Food containers not refilled. One croissant left. Choice of cereal - cornflakes and a little muesli. Chopped fresh fruit bowl empty. At the toaster the only bread left was 2 slices of white and one brown.
enjoyed the tranquillity, the setting and the old manor house was exceptionally laid out like a Scottish ancestorial home! the room was a bonus as we were in a suite and it was absolutely amazing. we enjoyed dinner and the lounge room for tea/coffee and after dinner drinks. All staff were attentive in their duties.
nothing!
Lovely old building. Lovely setting with fantastic staff. Great location. Like that it has not been over modernised. Love the history.
Poor cleaning!!! dirty cups in bedroom on check in( replaced at reception) Very loose toilet seat (.replaced) Bathroom soap dispenser filthy, Juice containers at breakfast cloudy and need replacing. More attention to cleaning juice area. Check glasses and cups. Found dirty at table and juice station. Menu more like pub grub no specials or local produce. Hardly 4 star!( had similar menu in another restaurant locally much cheaper).Haggis neeps and tattie starter is frozen food from Brake Brothers Living on their past history.
Lak of staff. Waiting at bar ,for food for drinks at table , just no staff.
There was a lad that worked there that was very smiley.
Everything else. Horrendous experience. Never again! The toilet, shower, light and kettle didn't work. The jacuzzi didn't work all week. Hot tub was not hot, it was a cold tub. The fan provided was thick with dust. There were random wires loose at the bottom of the sink. The view from the window, despite being located on a beautiful estate, was awful. Orange juice was always empty in the morning and we had to ask for things regularly, feeling like I was doing a shift as Supervisor. The manager fibbed like wano about complaints, making it up as she went. All in all the best part of the holiday was when we left for the day. Hidden costs as well, there was no mention of VAT on the advert as it mentioned it was included, but it wasn't.
Great service, lovely modern service with a heritage feel. Fabulous combination of buffet breakfast & made to order.
Check in, pool, size of bathroom, great shower, comfortable bed.
Stained carpets and walls in room. Small bed room. Jacuzzi out of order still. Unable to use outdoor sauna and hot tub.
Location is beautiful, and the house itself is gorgeous. Gym is a decent size.
The hotel was quite significantly understaffed, and service was pretty slow for dinner, especially drinks orders. Felt sorry for the staff as it was obvious they were working really hard, but just not enough staff to service the demand. This was obvious during the breakfast shift also.
Lovely place in a lovely setting
Understaffed , wait long time for drinks etc
Good location with parking. Staff helpful and efficient. Free use of leisure facilities
Room a little tired. the duvet cover was torn and the toilet seat loose. Lovely thick curtains but set away from the window meaning the light flooded in onto the bed from the side of the curtains. Couldn't locate a hairdryer although staff at check out said it would have been hung in a bag in the wardrobe. This was not easy to spot as the wardrobe in a dark area of the room
The check-in staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The dinner was delicious. Great that you have a gym, pool (lovely decor), sauna, hot tub. The decor/atmosphere was charming. The grounds were beautiful. The staff was accommodating when we wanted to use the drawing room after they'd closed up.
The restaurant staff seemed quite new/inexperienced, although they were quite friendly. The black pudding was extremely hard. The hot water in the room took a long time to reach the shower. The towel rack didn't function. The restaurant didn't have boxes to take away our leftover food. The jacuzzi was too cold the night we used it, then empty the next morning when we wanted to use it. The indoor hottub was out of order.
Great location for Aberdeen.Clean rooms , staff friendly and polite.Breakfast buffet had lots of choices gym.The swimming pool and gym is a bonus for relax .
All good
Lovely clean room and an excellent breakfast.
Nothing
Beautiful property, staff were lovely, comfortable lovely rooms.
La struttura è molto affascinante e curata. Gli ambienti ampi e piacevoli permettono di vivere una bella esperienza. Una casa antica dove bere whisky in una vecchia poltrona di pelle.
La camera era un po’ fredda
everything was green and not soulless, and all the staff fussed over pickles (pug)
no complaints will stay again
I loved the peaceful estate location and the feel of old style country house combined with contemporary comfort. The pool and gum were fabulous. All the little touches were lovely.
No dislikes
Incredibly helpful staff, beautiful room and building, large grounds to explore, parking
Dinner was absolutely fantastic. Amazing food
It was very disappointing to find the bar closed. It would have been nice to have sat in the bar with our dog & enjoy a few drinks. They had a wedding on so obviously they were catering for them & not residents. Bathroom was very tired looking & needs refurbished
The decor. The garden.
Cleanliness
The staff were pleasant and courteous.
On arrival I was told that I would have to change rooms. If your robot had advised me of this I would have booked elsewhere and there was no manager available to discuss compensation. The bathroom needed a good deep clean.
It looks amazing from outside, grounds are tidy Short taxi ride to Inverurie for lovely restaurants Staff at breakfast were lovely and breakfast was nice enough
Arrived for check in at 3 and could t get into room until 4. Planned to use spa facilities but sauna booked out for private booking so didn’t bother. Inside is looking very tired. Furniture old, needing updated or refurbished, bathroom taps not working properly, lighting poor in rooms and not enough plugs. Rooms roasting and no fans and it wasn’t even hot outside. Our room had a jack n Jill door and we heard full conversations of the couple next door. Our room was also next to lift shaft and it made a constant drone all through night. Reception staff didn’t ask how our stay was.
The staff were very friendly. We were staying for 2 nights for my mums birthday and the receptionist offered to bring an ice bucket for wine and plates for the birthday cake we brought. The facilities were fantastic and even though the spa is shared we were able to swim and use the jacuzzi/sauna without hassle. Bed wad super comfortable and the meals were amazing! Highly recommend going for an evening meals!
The only complaint i had was not having enough tea bags or sugar as we spent some time in the room and housekeeping were short staffed. I asked at reception for some but still didnt get anything for a few hours until i went back to reception a second time. But i understand these things happen and it did not ruin the stay, and this was out of their control. They did what they could at the time to rectify it as best they could.
Thainstone House is in a beautiful setting, with attractive grounds and plenty of character. Our suite was spacious, and the hotel was conveniently located for the wedding we were attending at Cluny Castle.
Sadly, the experience fell far below what we expected from a four-star hotel after spending almost £1,000 on a three-night stay. There was very little welcome on arrival: no tour or explanation of the facilities, no offer of help with our luggage, and we were not shown where the lift was. Although the suite was spacious, the bed felt surprisingly small, the room was unbearably hot, and there appeared to be no effective air conditioning, making sleep extremely uncomfortable. Most concerning was the sauna, which became dangerously hot and raised a genuine safety concern. At checkout, we were not asked how our stay had been, despite the hotel later suggesting we should have raised the issue then. I subsequently submitted a detailed complaint, but the response failed to address the experience properly, and I am still waiting for a satisfactory resolution. This was meant to be a special, restorative break for my husband and me during an extremely difficult period, but it became memorable for all the wrong reasons.
Quality of evening meal and breakfast was good. Impressive building. Location was lovely.
Cleanliness of room (hairs on sink/shower, mould on shower, sticky matter on chairs and bed frame). View from room (bins and cars). Comfort of room (thick winter bedding provided so too hot despite fan provided, deluxe king room had too beds pushed together so gap in the middle very uncomfortable). Woken early by bedroom door banging loudly when people walked past.Cleanliness of spa (steam room floor was slimy and room smelt of mould). Was unable to access outdoor spa facilities as closed for private booking. Appeared understaffed - no bread, juices or glasses available at breakfast. Surrounded by dirty dishes at mealtimes. Service was slow. Was offered complimentary drinks but weren't added to our account on checkout and had to advise of this. Drinks charge was excessive. Service charge added without my consent which did not agree with as wouldn't have tipped the service received.
Staff were excellent in the main but the service on our first morning was terrible. Fay and Scot were exceptionally would have got 10 out of 10
The breakfast service on the first morning was terrible. Too many guests arrived around the same time and service got away from the staff on duty.
Entrance was lovely and the staff were very happy and helpful. The gym was very good too.
The pool was too busy. The changing room was dirty and smelt like drains. The towel rail never worked so had damp towels every day. The duvet, when I removed the cover at the end of our stay to help with housekeeping, had a big tea or coffee stain on. The carpet was very stained. Some slow closing door stops need to be added as doors slamming throughout stay.
Room and dinner
Nothing
Everything Loved absolutely everything The history The calm The scenery
We were looking forward to our stay for our anniversary but were underwhelmed and disappointed with the hotel. The location is ideal for a short break, staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. The grounds are lovely. Breakfast was good, lots of choice. Dinner was adequate.
The décor and furniture in the room was tired. Bed was very creaky as well as floor in room. Could see where ceiling/coving had tried to be repaired. Poor tea tray, had to ask for more coffee and milk. Too many paintings in room, made room feel dark. Not able to have window open as would not stay up. Shower in bathroom had mould and the ceiling needed repaired. Cold tap for bath did not work. Cleanliness was not up to standard in pool/spa area. Very tired décor throughout, could do with a lot of TLC internally and externally eg windows in restaurant. Overall not a 4 star experience.
Me my son and his girlfriend stayed here with our dog, the full place is beautiful
Room was not as clean, there was a shortage of tea, milk and the stem from kettle goes directly under the TV. did not have breakfast and when checking in the staff at desk never gave me options of breakfast, dinner or spa facilities. We asked if there were places to walk to on grounds, we were told to go to Inverurie river and yet we hoped to stay within the grounds.
Sadden that for such a nice hotel some of the staff are lacking in welcoming guest skills. the lady at the reception was judgmental and there was sa lot of hairs in the bath plug-hole
Room was amazing, people were friendly, food was amazing.
Nothing
Staff were very pleasant
All was as expected. Menu was a little limited on choice if staying for more than a few nights.
We checked out this morning after what should have been a lovely relaxing weekend away turned into a catalogue of disappointments. On arrival we were advised of a wedding taking place but felt this would not be to much of an impact as have stayed in hotels when weddings have taken place and it did not impact our stay however this was not to be the case . We were unable to eat in the restaurant on the Saturday evening, the wedding party took over every reception room, we were not able to even buy a drink at the bar. We had to push past them vaping and blocking the entrance and felt like intruders which we clearly were not We had to keep our window closed in a very small bedroom until the music had stopped then were subjected to loud voices just after midnight and again at 1am. We followed the rule re the shower and unfortunately even making the quickest exit from the bathroom seemingly set of the fire alarm. The bathroom was too hot to stay in with the door closed so had to wait until the very poor fan cleared the steam I developed an area of small bites on my leg and swelling to my eyes which I had to buy medication for. We did ask the receptionist on the Saturday morning and she kindly checked but the only other room available was beside the ballroom where the party was taking place. Not the relaxing 4 star luxury stay as described
Excellent spa facilities. Pleasant lounges and dining room. Nice bathroom. Helpful staff
Slope in bedroom (Room 203) wall was a hazard. Daily room cleaning was below standard.
Location
Tired and dated.
Only half swimming pool open (due to kids lessons on other half) As pool is small anyway it was impossible to swim lengths as no room
Loved breakfast. The staff are all very friendly. The swimming pool and gym are great
Staff were all excellent, especially Faye.
Staff lovely
Shower not functioning properly Bed not comfortable
Absolutely beautiful Great location, facilities were great.
Everything was beautiful but the dressing table in room was very badly marked.
Nothing - the room was filthy with excessive mould everywhere. Not habitable.
The room was the dirtiest I have ever experienced
Lovely room and food, staff very friendly.
Some grumpy people in the pool who didn't like the kids splashing around.
Impressive looking property. Lovely grounds, good parking.
Rooms a little dated.
Location was good. We had a very good breakfast both morning. Staff were there but were left to our own devices.
Spa needs a little attention. Jacuzzi was off for too long. Sauna was too hot, floor was burning hot.
Comfortable room. Shower great. Swim, saunas, steam hot tubs all good. Stylish and classy lounges and bar.
There was very little not to like. Some of the hot food looked like it had been on hot plates a while and was low on quantity but overall nice. Somehow a flying bat got into my corridor in the evening but that’s not the hotels fault !
Staff were great, food was nice
Service was nonexistent, in the 3 days we had to ask for staff for any service, value for money was not there, paid £25 per day for our dog to stay and the room was not cleaned, spa was lovely but could be done with a good clean. Bar was dirty from the night before, an no staff were in attedance. Have emailed customer service but have not had a response
Lovely location and scenery at the property
Some area were a bit dated and could do with an upgrade
Lovely hotel in a beautiful setting
It's location was excellent as it allowed us to visit the castles we had come to see in the area, very easily. The young staff were also very pleasant and helpful enabling us to have a most enjoyable stay.
Nothing.
Peaceful location, lovely grounds. Comfortable beds
.
.
The grounds, the pool, the period decor, the games room.
Nothing staff and booking reference with Bioking.comnexceptionally poor
Everything
Dinner was excellent and staff really nice.
Our room was very tired looking and in need of a overhaul, bed had a big dip in the middle `
Lovely location , beautiful house and great facilities. We really enjoyed the pool with sauna and hot tub. We also enjoyed the snooker table and darts . Rooms were nice had all we needed and the treats in the biscuit tin were a nice touch . Also loved bathroom products .
The breakfast was a big let down , We are a family of 5, when it came to breakfast we were told they can not accommodate a table For 5 , so we had to have 3 of us at one table and 2 at another and was given tables at complete opposites ends of the room , we would have enjoyed to eat breakfast together . There was plenty free tables they were just all needing cleared. The juice was always running out , and the food . It also says you get a menu should you wish to have something made to order or eat from the buffet but we were not offered a menu . It seemed chaotic and under staffed . Not what would be expected from a 4 star. Also we all had difficulty sleeping . The rooms were very hot so we had the windows open but there was quite a loud noise constantly, I think it was the air conditioning or from the swimming pool .
Beautiful garden Comfy bed
The whole hotel has old lady smell. Very noisy, every step on the floor was creaked.Ive literally heard eveything from the topfloor ,the corridor and mine.It was extremly disappointing .I wasnt able to sleep. The hotel checked my special needs WHEN I was already there more than 7 hours. I thought stay more than one night but change my mind
The staff here were very helpful. We had a lovely dinner and breakfast was a buffet with lots of variety. The shower in the room was amazing and I loved the products. Bed was very comfortable.
Spa was out of use for a private party on our day of arrival.
Great food really good attentive/ supportive staff Main rooms well finished
Bedrooms tired
Beautiful garden
Staff was not professional nor prepared to deal with customers. Basic breafast, restaurant is disappointing. Bathroom could be cleaner.
The staff were all lovely ans welcoming , house keeper also. Food lovely .
The reception didn't give much information about times for meals or that they have another bar. The music is fiddle music and it plays constantly. The bar was not manned until 6pm, so had to rely on the reception staff who were great but busy. The room is small and dark no views in any of the rooms due to being built at the back of the building.
The food was gorgeous. The staff were all amazing. Very knowledgeable about the food and wine. Attentive service. Breakfast was great especially the fruit for the yogurt and having seeds
sign posting on main door and to reception could be improved
It was a beautiful looking property
There was no help to get baggage up the stairs, the food was below par, after asking to accept a parcel on my behalf they rejected it!
The grounds were beautiful
A beautiful building that has seen better days. Need a large injection of cash to upgrade. Room was dark and outdated. Most staff were good. Some if the dining staff were inexperienced. Overall a good experience but needs upgrading
Lovely building and decor. Comfy bed and warm bedroom. Lovely garden for walking dog. Good breakfast and friendly staff.
There was coffee stains in the bedroom furniture, and blood stains on the curtains. Bathroom was fine. Decor of bedroom and bathroom a bit tired overall.
Everything was perfect. Beautiful location. Stunning galleries landing and staircase.
Everything was great. Dining room could be modernised a bit or tables moved around. Felt no atmosphere. Apart from that place is beautiful.
A well organised hotel that accommodates a wide range of guests effectively, with helpful and friendly staff. Our room was calm and well organised. We enjoyed the evening meal. Plenty of car parking. Nice grounds to walk in.
I travelled to stay for work and I performed at the venue the next day Staff and venue were perfect
Everything was great
The location
The rooms and corridors and communal areas smelt old and fousty. The place was very dark, could benefit with some lighter coloured paint. There was no signage to indicate the main door or where the reception was. The signage that was there you could hardly read it was so dark. The first bedroom we had had mould on the ceiling in the bathroom. We had a meal there and the Cullen skink soup was watery and no flavour. All in all the place was tired and dated and could do with a major revamp.
Feeling of being 'in the country' due to the expansive garden area, dinner, decor and atmosphere, staff
Our room (201) was disappointing as it did not have a proper window that you could look out of. There was small window up at the ceiling.
Nothing. Based on this experience, I would strongly recommend selecting a different hotel.
Repeated Early Alarms & No Communication: Fire alarms blasted early in the morning two days in a row, waking the entire hotel. No explanation or apology was provided at the time. Guests were left completely in the dark, and I had to proactively ask staff why the sirens had gone off. Known Fault & Poor Signage: We later learned the alarms were triggered by steam from a guest showering. Reception admitted this happens every week. Despite this being a known, recurring issue, the sign on the door is just a polite reminder to close it, rather than a clear safety warning that steam triggers the fire system. No mention at check-in. Hostile & Sarcastic Management: When I raised health and safety concerns and asked what the procedure was for dealing with these situations, the manager refused to explain it. When I suggested notifying current guests to reassure them, she responded sarcastically: "Do you want us to go up and knock on everybody’s door, disturbing them, just to tell them it is a false alarm?" Defensive Attitude: Rather than acknowledging that the door signage could be clearer to prevent these weekly disruptions, the manager mockingly stated, "Oh, I’ll just notify head office to change all the doors to suit you." Tone-Policing to Shut Down Conversation: When I challenged these dismissive explanations, the manager stopped addressing the issue and instead told me to stop being "aggressive" and lower my tone. I was entirely calm, and my colleague openly pointed out to staff that I was not being aggressive at all. The senior manager then bragged about being a hotelier for 15 years, using her experience as an excuse for incompetence / poor communication. Subpar Dining & Ignored Requests: The food and drink prices were expensive, but the quality and taste felt completely basic. Service times were exceptionally long, and simple, repeated requests for sauce and table water never arrived.
Nothing. Based on this experience, I would strongly recommend selecting a different hotel.
Repeated Early Alarms & No Communication: Fire alarms blasted early in the morning two days in a row, waking the entire hotel. No explanation or apology was provided at the time. Enjoyed the view of the grounds from the public space. Also so glad to have been kindly offerred a downstairs bedroom by the very friendly young staff.
Are their handles to help an elderly person to get in and out of the bath???
Great location with fantastic surroundings. The whole place is very atmospheric. Food was lovely. Staff were friendly. Would definitely stay again.
The Stockman bar wasn't open so we got confused looking for it. Perhaps a notice on the door would've been useful. The bar we used was lovely though.
Vriendelijk personeel dat de tijd voor je neemt, mooie lokatie om te verblijven
Lovely and clean. Staff were lovely!
The spa needs a little TLC, the women's changing room is very tired and could do with some love.
Lovely location and nice staff
Toilet was filthy and full of poo bet sheets were mucky
The area was lovely 😍
Not enough staff at bar had to wait age's every time we went up...breakfast was really good but no sugar for our friends cereal hard sugar lump not ideal for cereal...forgot my glasses when I phoned the girl assured me she would get back untouch as I would have to pay postage it never happened.
