Établissement très central au pied de la rue Nanjing Road. Très bel hôtel avec beaucoup de charme. Le personnel notamment à l’entrée, à la conciergerie et les femmes de ménage est très serviable. Le petit déjeuner est très copieux avec beaucoup de choix. La chambre est très belle et grande, la salle de bains (pour la chambre exécutive) a des toilettes séparés. Hôtel calme la nuit. Très belle vue sur la rue illuminée le soir.

Le lit est limite « raide » on s’attend à une autre catégorie de matelas dans ce type d’établissement. Manque de produits pour le corps ; une seule fiole de savon, shampooing et après shampooing pour une chambre double c est pas assez …

I understood the 2pm check-in policy, but found the staff unnecessarily inflexible. We waited from 9am and repeatedly asked from 1pm, but were refused until exactly 2pm. We were offered an expensive room upgrade, which we declined as we didn’t need it, and unfortunately felt there was very little flexibility afterwards. For a hotel advertised as 4–5 star, the level of customer service was disappointing.

The location was very convenient and close to several places.

The temperature of the shower water is difficult to adjust; it is either too hot or too cold, so the temperature cannot be adjusted appropriately!

location was excelent, right beside nanjing road. Staff were so helpful and firendly. No request was too much hassle. The hotel itself was spotless throughout inc the room. Would 100% stay here again.

Beds are a little on the small side compared to what we would be insued of in other parts of the world but it wasnt a big deal at all.

Somewhat worn down, air-condition not really reacting to change. It was descent though. Mixed feeling of staff, some were kind of unhelpful.

⭐☆☆☆☆ This hotel may have been a five-star property decades ago, but it has failed to keep up with modern international standards. It still feels trapped in the past while the rest of the hospitality industry has moved forward. The rooms are extremely outdated. The carpets have an unpleasant smell, and the electrical system is old-fashioned. Every light has its own separate switch, with no master switch to control the room lighting conveniently. Small details like these make the hotel feel neglected rather than luxurious. The front desk staff were the worst part of my stay. They were unhelpful and provided poor customer service. Room service was also disappointing, slow, and below the standard you would expect from a five-star hotel. Breakfast was another major letdown. The selection was very limited, and much of the food did not seem fresh. It certainly does not reflect the quality expected from a luxury hotel. To make matters worse, the hotel required a deposit of RMB 1,000 per day for the minibar. I told them to remove the minibar instead, but rather than doing that, they locked the entire refrigerator, preventing me from even storing my own bottled water. They refused to unlock it, which was both unreasonable and frustrating. The only positive aspect of this hotel is its location. Shanghai is a beautiful city, but unfortunately, staying at this hotel significantly damaged my overall experience. This was one of the most disappointing hotel stays I have ever had, and I would strongly advise anyone considering booking here to look elsewhere. Don’t let the photos fool you—this is a very old hotel that no longer deserves its five-star rating.

We had a wonderful stay at the Grand Central Hotel Shanghai and would happily stay here again. The rooms are exceptionally spacious, comfortable, and beautifully maintained. We were lucky to have a fantastic view of the Shanghai skyline, especially at night. Breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety of both Chinese and Western dishes. Everything was fresh and there was something for every taste. The Executive Lounge was one of the highlights of our stay. The complimentary drinks and snacks made it a perfect place to relax after a busy day exploring the city. I highly recommend booking a room with lounge access. The staff were consistently friendly and helpful. During our stay, I needed to send several packages, and the team went above and beyond to assist me with the shipping process. Their kindness and patience were greatly appreciated. The location is another major advantage. It’s within walking distance of Nanjing Road, The Bund, restaurants, shopping, and public transportation, making it an excellent base for exploring Shanghai. Overall, this hotel offers outstanding value with spacious rooms, excellent service, delicious breakfast, a fantastic lounge, and a perfect location. We would definitely choose Grand Central Hotel again on our next visit to Shanghai.

Breakfast doesnt have options for vegetarian which is very sad , Also the charge for breakfast is high , spread of breakfast is very short not upto internatinal level , need to improve it badly . Also there is very ordinary restaurants option , please add some international chain for restaurant ,

Fantastic hotel with great location within walking distance to everything. The hotel staff was exceptional and very professional. The breakfast was great. Andy and his team took great care of me. The gym could have a few more weight machines for chest, shoulder and legs. It is big with many aerobic machines but weights are not 5 star standard. Please fix this.

Good location with Nanjing Road pedestrian walkway just around the corner.

The flooring around the indoor swimming pool is all marble, which makes the floor very slippery when it is wet!

Our stay at this hotel was ruined by completely unprofessional and inhumane treatment from the staff. Upon check‑in, we were asked to leave a $100 deposit. During our stay, my wife started her period – a normal female physiological process. She accidentally stained one towel slightly. At checkout, a hotel employee inspected the room, pointed to that towel, and claimed we had to pay for “special cleaning”. They demanded over 200 yuan (around $28) – an absurd amount for a regular towel. When we reasonably objected that this is not damage but simply part of normal hotel laundry, the staff refused to return our deposit. The manager backed them up. My wife was brought to tears – this is a very personal and sensitive matter for any woman. Instead of understanding or an apology, we faced pressure, an argument, and the threat of losing our entire deposit. We only got our money back after a long confrontation. By then we were stressed, running out of time, and almost missed our flight. This is not service – it’s outright rudeness and an attempt to profit from an awkward situation. I strongly do not recommend this hotel, especially to couples, women, or anyone who values their dignity and time.

Absolutely fabulous hotel! Right in the middle of nanjing rd shopping and short walk to the bund. Staff were attentive and happy. The room was presented beautifully and daily cleaning on point. Jasmine Sun on reception made our stay special with her outstanding service and smile. Thanks to all the staff at grand central hotel Shanghai - highly recommend and look forward to returning again

Grand Central Hotel Shanghai – Absolutely Fabulous Our stay at the Grand Central Hotel Shanghai was absolutely fabulous. We had booked what was considered a "small" room, and at check-in the receptionist kindly offered us an upgrade to a larger room. Since we were only staying for one night, I declined. To our surprise, when we entered our room, it felt more like a suite than a standard room. The hotel has a wonderful old-style luxury feel. The room featured a writing desk, an extremely comfortable bed, a walk-in wardrobe, and everything we could possibly need. There was also a lovely armchair, and the air conditioning was quiet and worked perfectly. The concierge team was outstanding. Jacky, Andy, and another gentleman whose name I unfortunately can't remember were incredibly helpful throughout our stay. Their service really made a difference. The location is excellent as well, with many of Shanghai's attractions within walking distance. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel.

The staff were lovely, breakfast had plenty of choice, and the hotel itself looks great. The location is hard to beat — you’re literally a few steps away from the main pedestrian street with all the shops and restaurants, but because the hotel is slightly tucked away, you don’t hear any of that noise. It was super quiet at night, which we really appreciated. All the big sights are an easy walk too.

The only real issue was our room. We were put right next to the lift, and every time it arrived there was a loud chime. The room door has gaps and basically no soundproofing, so we heard that beep constantly. It got old really fast, especially when you’re trying to relax or sleep. If you book here, just make sure you ask for a room far from the elevator. A couple of other things surprised us. At check-in they took a deposit that was close to 50% of what we paid for the whole stay. That’s a big chunk of money to have on hold, and it wasn’t made clear beforehand. Also, the hotel rules mention a fine if you lose your key card. I’ve never come across that in a five-star place before — felt a bit stingy

The spa next to the pool was not working, as I understand permanently. The breakfast was the weakest point. There was no meat at all. Though there was a chef cooking excellent noodle soup. This is the reason while a point was deducted.

As the name indicates, the hotel is centrally located. We had Club rooms and checked in on the club floor. The Club team were very helpful. The rooms were well appointed and very comfortable. I was able to pay for an extra late check out (6pm) which was very helpful. Breakfast was extensive and served downstairs in the impressive salon. Soy bean milk was available.

Amazing location just steps from Nanjing Street and not far from Metro station that is on the line to PVG. Lots of other hotels/stores/restaurants nearby. Breakfast was good with typical spread. Probably the hotel with the most English speaking staff of all the hotels i stayed at for this trip. Rooms are spacious, and showers are great. Speedy housekeepers seems to know exactly when you left your room to clean it so kudos. Amenities are present, although some like hot tub showing it's wear/tear.

Bartenders probably need some additional cocktail making training. Putting all the required ingredients in is one thing, but sometimes it’s the execution that results in a good drink.

Good Hotel to stay in Shanghai.

Location was very good near to Nanjing Street. Service at front desk also was good. They try to accommodate as best they can, but not always to your satisfaction. Our only dislike is, in the evenings the room tends to be very warm. We had to open the windows to get cool air. Can't imagine if it was in summer. WE approached the front desk after the first night, and they told us the tech would check our room. It was the same again after the second night. We did not bother to ask again as we were leaving on the third day.

因是半夜的航班我們是凌晨兩點過才到酒店，承蒙禮賓部的Francis Zhang 的熱情接待同時也认出我們儿年前也來住宿過，真是故鄉遇熟人，－掃疲乏之態. 第二天換到套房時前台的Jasmine 和她的同事非常熱情又麻利地邦我們完成換房的工作，效率很高，態度又好. 我們夫妻住了6晚，女兒她們四人住了3晚倆個小外孫女因幾年前來住過，這次重溫舊夢，感情依舊，對上海大酒店是贊不絕口. 住宿期間多次進出大門又是去廸斯尼女兒她們需寄放行李，禮賓部張經理等人都是非常客氣，服務週到. 客房阿姨打掃認真負責使我們有回家感覺。 歺飲部亮點：咖哩牛肉面的師傅現拉現煑，牛肉面口感很好，湯汁鮮美，咖哩放得也恰到好處，值得表揚；因太太身體不放便下樓吃早餐，需本人帶些粥之類食品給她，有早餐廳的員工（經理）很溫馨地替我准備了塑料食盒及塑料袋方便㩗帶. 謝謝了.

早餐品種較少，選擇不太多，－些中式早點如菜包，肉包放的時間較長，吃的時候已經涼了或者接近凉了，西式早点品種少。個別員工尚有提升服務質量的空間.

Location and beautiful rooms.

The property charged me a $300aud bond per room which is yet to be repaid. They owe me $600 aud. It’s now 3 weeks.

Jasmine Sun and Annie Ding are two of the staff that have been so helpful throughout the trip. They have been so kind and made our stay even better. It's all about the staff!

I paid for a double room for two adults and a small child. I was a bit put out when they asked me to pay for an extra breakfast, which is not cheap, for the child when we are already paying quite a lot to stay at the hotel for the week. Given the child is sharing a bed with me, it felt a bit...ungenerous.

As for the breakfast, it was very ordinary for a hotel of this caliber. I would describe it as a standard 3-star hotel breakfast, yet it was priced like a 5-star experience. Compared to similar hotels, their breakfast options are usually two or three times more diverse and much more delicious.

The hotel's Wi-Fi was quite slow, and most Western apps either wouldn't load or were extremely unresponsive.

One of the best luxury hotels I have stayed. Great value for the luxury provided. Great amenities and very clean and well kept room. The bedding quality was excellent and so the quality of sleep. Everything in the room had a quality of luxury around it. It mixed traditional feel in the room and modern technology very well. Our requests were delivered using a robot! The location was excellent for first time visitors, with great connectivity to airports and train stations, all good places to eat nearby. Note that they require a deposit to be paid when you arrive even for pre-booked reservations. Highly recommended.
