Clean and spacious hotel room. Fantastic breakfast. Attentive and friendly staff.
Lovely reception, restaurant and bar area.
Rooms tired and dated
The staff were brilliant. The premesis were equal great. Location beatifull
All was great
Beautiful, large room. Beautiful hotel in general. Feeling of low key luxury. Good value as well compared to London prices.
A common problem with hotels in the UK: lack of sound proofing. Guests talking on the next room at 1AM is not fun. Doors slamming is a sport, apparently. Breakfast is extremely british, which unfortunately for me, means lack of bread and cold choices. But plenty of warm stuff for those who are into a heavy breakfast. Clean in general, but the toilet was not properly cleaned when I got my room. The shower water was alternating between very hot and cold sometimes, that really needs fixing unless it's supposed to be part of the spa experience!
We stayed overnight for a wedding, lovely comfortable bed and great breakfast. Staff very friendly and attentive
Couldn't fault it
This was a comfortable stay. The room appeared in good condition and was a good size. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The room was definitely dated and the spa area (although well thought through and has great potential) was lacklustre and was not particularly well maintained.
There were several things we really enjoyed about our stay. The beds were exceptionally comfortable, making it easy to get a good night’s sleep. The bathroom was spacious, well laid out and had plenty of room. We also really liked the hotel’s bar and restaurant areas. The outdoor seating area was another nice touch, providing a pleasant space to sit and enjoy a drink particularly when the weather was nice.
On our first morning, we were let into the breakfast area by a member of staff and were allowed to go ahead and have breakfast. However, while we were in the main dining area, the same member of staff approached us then later another, and told us that we had not paid for breakfast. We found this quite embarrassing and uncomfortable, particularly as the conversation took place in front of other guests who were able to hear. If there was an issue with our breakfast entitlement, we feel it would have been much more appropriate to clarify this before allowing us into the dining area, rather than raising it publicly once we were already seated among other guests and eating our food. Another issue was when my partner realised he had left his jacket in the bar area the previous evening. When we enquired at reception the following night, the member of staff at the desk immediately told us that nothing had been handed in. However, another member of staff overheard the conversation and corrected them, confirming that the jacket had in fact been handed in. We found this quite unsettling, as it gave the impression that the first member of staff had not properly checked before telling us that the jacket was not there. A little more care and attention when dealing with guests’ enquiries would have been appreciated.
Air conditioning in room was very good. Food in bar was great
Bar area had no air conditioning so too warm to eat inside.
Was a lovely venue
Hair dryer was blown in room. Stayed at venue with multiple different people and seemed to have had the smaller room when we paid the same ? Patched up work in Bath which didn’t match the colour
Restaurant and bar and out door seating area pristine with good service
Upgraded to a suite, very dated, with faulty air conditioning a few of our party had the same issue
Nice place decent sized rooms
We actually didn’t want to stay here after some in our group were quoted over double what we paid due to having a dog. The rest of the group went elsewhere but they refused us & another couple a refund. When we told staff on the desk that they had missed out on another 12 people staying inc. evening & breakfast meals because of this they were disinterested.
Workout room, sauna, pool, and the location are all good. Close to Donnington Castle. Room was a decent size and a large bathroom.
WiFi is absolutely horrible. The mattress bases were not even, so there was a bit of a gap which was noticeable when sleeping & moving in the bed. No phone in the room.
Amazing place, and amazing food, couldn't fault anything
Breakfast was excellent and location outside areas immaculate.
Bar prices slightly expensive Coffee very expensive Coffee could maybe be complimentary
Pleasant staff for the most part, easy parking options
Dated interiors, worn and tired fittings especially in the bathroom. Despite the high cost of the room access to the facilities such as gym and swimming pool were extras. We only ate breakfast but the buffet was very standard, certainly not a premium experience.
Great air conditioning everywhere so neither too hot or cold. Meant even okay to use the spa despite the heatwave.
Swimming pool has lots of space around it for loungers and tables and chairs. Even nice outside space to sit.
Good location, quiet, helpful staff if a bit thin on the ground.
A bit tired with some maintenance required. While space was good it felt a bit like a motel with everything screwed down so you didn’t steal it. No phone in room , no room service, air conditioning in my room inadequate, small areas of worn off enamel in bath. Nothing that was a disaster but not the level I was expecting.
Bar and outside seating area Bar staff and restaurant staff were lovely
Reception staff were quite rude , when checking out, started taking to a member of staff whilst in the middle of my check out and left me waiting and rude when I said is that it am I done. Also asked to check in early and wasn’t treated great Shower has no power at all, felt like I hadn’t had one Breakfast buffet is poor , only scrambled eggs which were like mush.
This was my first stay at Donington Hotel. I booked it because it is dog friendly and has aircon in the rooms. It was the start of a heatwave and my dog was struggling with the temperature of our flat and all portable aircon units were out of stock. The hotel is wonderful, the staff couldn't help enough and were very welcoming of my dog and I. The grounds are beautiful, the food was excellent and the aircon was amazing!
I arrived late and the room wasn't quite ready. However, the staff managed this well - I was shown to the bar and asked to wait there with a complimentary glass of prosecco. If the bar and communal areas had aircon, my dog and I would have spent more time there as we enjoyed meeting some lovely people at the hotel. As with all hotels, I think there was a premium for the aircon room in the middle of a heatwave.
Excellent service from all staff especially the reception team. 1st class Great room. Very clean. Great bed. Wonderful pool. The staff there are also amazing. Spa is good Restaurant food and service is excellent The place has had a make over since my last trip and it looks very good indeed
Nothing
The location was great. The receptionist was so very lovely and welcoming. The food was amazing.
Nothing..
The outside space, the decor, food, reception staff and rooms were really lovely
The bar staff were charging multiple different prices for the same round of drinks
Gym and the restaurant
Very clean
Noise from generator on roof above our room constantly
Breakfast was OK. Didnt use the spa as i didnt have time. Room was very nice
Nothing
The place is wonderful. Spa and gym are excellent, food is also excellent, staff are amazing. The two girls on reception were more than helpful.
Nothing
The swimming pool and facilities were very nice and relaxing.
Location. Size of our room
Extra charge for Spa because we booked with Booking. Com. Dormer Windows were filthy.
It had a room
No WiFi and the complaint ignored
Car park had plenty of spaces, lobby was nice, swimming pool was nice, massage was good, room was spacious and reception and cleaning staff were friendly.
We were upgraded for free to a “executive room” but it turned out to be two singles pressed together, with a gap in the middle. Mattresses were so soft it was very uncomfortable and the shower kept changing temperature from freezing cold to scalding hot and back again. WiFi in the room didn’t work. Our dinner was overpriced (£140 for 2). Food and service was ok, not great. Our dinner was also disrupted by a group of 10 drunk men loudly singing and thumping on the table. That wasn’t the hotel’s fault and the manager did come out to tell them to be quiet, but the hotel seemed to attract lads on tour for some reason.
Very lovely hotel staff were pleasant rooms are amazing. The spa was clean and lots to do enjoyed the whole day and very comfortable. Rooms . Excellent
Absolutely nothing all perfect
Thw common spaces were beautiful
Rooms were a bit tardy need of future upgrade, but fine
Everything! The staff and super friendly and helpful from the start. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds and everything is spotlessly clean.
The golf course, breakfast was ok but over priced
No sky TV in the room & no Internet connection on the TV for customers to use app. With Internet connection on the TV we could have had our own apps eg sky go, amazon or netflix.
A nice quiet sacious room in a convenient location for A34.
Disappointed with dinner in evening.
I always love staying here spa is great rooms comfortable spa staff are kind
You cant call reception from room!
Decent location and nice property in general. Breakfast was good.
Advertised as electric charging station but only had 2 for the size of the place and only 1 was working so had to drive to find a supercharger, staff were unaware of this when it could have saved time if communicated by other departments. No usb ports, needs an upgrade. Bedside table light and normal lights kept flickering and bedside table light didn’t even work. Stains on chairs and curtains.
Service was very good.
The room was very tired, bathroom lights were either not working or flickering. No telephone in room to contact reception from room. Not enough sockets near the bed and no electronic charging points.
The hotel was spacious and the bar and dining room were tastefully decorated offering good quality food. The room was great too; spacious and comfortable beds but less modern than the rest of the hotel. It was perfect for our trip to the nearby Watermill Theatre.
The Spa was good but busy on a bank holiday weekend.
Spaciousness, cleanliness, staff interactions
All was perfect
Long walk to the Spa
Very nice hotel, friendly staff, great spa facilities. Excellent dinner and wine menus, very good service in the restaurant and bar.
Staff were friendly, spa facilities, pool, and bar/eating areas very nice.
Toilet was difficult to use, on check out others reported same (long term thick layer of limescale within toilet and very poor flush). Payment app failed to work at any point- for bar, spa, treatment bookings. Only seemed to have vegan food on room service on the sat night? Saw that there was a 645 available to eat and so we quickly went to bar for food. Sat down to be rushed and asked to order asap as busy - yet time was available on booking app. There was an event happening so I get your busy but we've also paid as hotel guests to stay for the weekend. Also kids from the event kept running up and down the hallway, I spoke to them to stop, but they would have been running back and forth past reception so I was a bit peeved that the staff hadn't said anything and I had to go out to ask them to be quiet and stop slamming doors.
Bed was very comfortable, great facilities at the pool
Food at the restaurant was disappointing
Staff were very friendly and the food in the restaurant was amazing. An ideal location for a chill weekend.
Jacuzzi wasn’t open and we were never told
Location
Staff and restaurant were great, weloming, very comfy bedroom, and evening meal was delicious. Mia in the restaurant was great.
The spa was tired, there were floor tiles missing and you could catch your bare toes on the holes, the jacuzzi - which I'd specifically chosen the spa for - was not working, the pool was a tad chilly.
The staff are wonderful
The bath was cloggin up but the stay before this has been really good as the staff upgraded us and didn’t charge for spa I appreciate them
Lovely staff, clean room and delicious food
Nothing
Everything!!Great atmosphere and facilities
Great bar. Reasonably priced
But old. No toiletries
The whole experience was great! Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Spa was wonderful, not over crowded and all facilities working. And the food was amazing, truly delicious 😋
We expected the paper to be delivered to the room but it was waiting at reception, which was fine.
Bacon could have been cooked to order
Friendly staff restaurant menu and wine choice excellent. The restaurant and reception are very good and sevice are look good after the make over
Restaurant meals were excellent as was service. All staff were friendly and helpful. Nice quiet location but close to main roads. Sports facilities looked good.
Couldn't stay longer or would have enjoyed all facilities on offer.
Great location, clean with great facilities
The menu is limited and the food mediocre,
Room was exceptional
Nothing
breakfast was cold
after paying a high price for the room you then have to pay £10. each to yes the pool
Breakfast ok. Chap in evening reception lovely
Two female staff on reception this morning were abrupt rude and over charged us with little apology. They tried to charge us for a spa we hadn’t used and were unapologetic when the mistake was pointed out. The tv had no signal so no channels available. When informed reception again no apology and just said they would inform maintenance. I took a picture as evidence. For £200 a night with no tv channels and poor reception staff it was absolutely not worth the money
Staff on recetwere very good in changing room for us due to the first room having screwed windows that would not open
Stayed for a wedding as guests, was very convenient to the barn location which was fantastic. Staff in the bar and breakfast area, were great and it's clear these areas have been recently renovated to a high standard.
Front desk staff were not that friendly, you have to pay extra to use the spa. Expensive for what you get - our room was one of the older ones and incredibly hot. Window only opened ajar and the AC didn't work.
Nice hotel with friendly, helpful staff. The breakfast and food in the restaurant was good and the facilities are very nice. I don’t agree with the extra charge to use the swimming pool though and feel this should be included in the room rate.
All the staff were excellent
Everything great, especially the restaurant food. Only issue was the breakfast coffee machines. As someone who likes coffee especially a cappuccino in the morning, the machines didn’t appear to be ‘bean to cup’ and the milk was not fresh. Sort out the coffee and my stay would have been excellent.
We went for a wedding and reception and the food and staff were lovely. Very attentive
Very nice hotel, friendly staff. Close to Vodafone HQ where I was working and Newbury town centre for restaurants. Room was spacious and comfortable, great bed.
Fantastic as always!
Lovely hotel, convenient for wedding venue. Nice breakfast
You have to pay extra for early check-in and to use the spa facilities - the price you pay is already expensive
Nice decor
Receptionist not friendly
Super comfortable bed and great restaurant, with a fantastic wine list. £10 cost to access the spa wasn't obvious when booking
Really appreciated very efficient and friendly reception desk staff.
Nothing comes to mind except the lift worried me a bit due to the noisy workings.
Check-in was smooth and easy, staff were welcoming, and the room was clean, spacious, and very comfortable with a huge bed. The spa area was tidy with an excellent sauna and steam room, and the pool itself is a good size. The restaurant looked inviting, with plenty of options for different dietary needs. There was also plenty of parking available, and the TV in the room had Sky Sports.
The mini fridge contained milk that was two days past its expiry date, though this was quickly replaced with an apology. The pool was quite cold, the hot tub button for bubbles was broken and the temperature was only lukewarm. The signal on the TV dropped out frequently, which was frustrating.

What guests love
Areas to consider
Cleanliness
8.5/10Most guests report very clean rooms and public areas; isolated complaint about filthy dormer windows.
Service
8/10Generally praised — reception, bar and spa staff repeatedly called friendly and helpful — though there are isolated reports of rude reception/check-out experiences and check-in handling.
Location
8.5/10Multiple mentions of a great location and convenient grounds; location is considered a strong point.
Room Quality
7.2/10Many rooms described as very clean, comfortable beds and good size, but several guests reported problems (weak/no shower power, unstable shower temperatures, very soft mattresses, some rooms in need of upgrades).
Amenities
7.8/10Spa, pool and gym are often praised as excellent, and grounds are a plus; however WiFi failures, a generator noise complaint and an extra charge for spa use (Booking.com bookings) reduce the score.
Value for Money
6.5/10Multiple comments that the hotel is overpriced (e.g. room rates without breakfast, expensive dinner) and inconsistent bar pricing, leading to a weaker value perception.
Food and Beverage
7.6/10Food and restaurant service are frequently described as excellent, but breakfast received criticism (poor buffet, mushy scrambled eggs) and some guests found dinner overpriced or only 'okay.'
Overall Experience
8.3/10Overall many guests had enjoyable, restful stays with outstanding staff and facilities, though a subset experienced issues (WiFi, showers, noise, rude interactions) resulting in mixed feedback.
