Great character good location
Room poor for money considering this is a 5 star.
The staff very attentive enjoyed the stay it was lovely
Lovely rooms, comfy beds, nice towels and bedding, staff polite and friendly, most of the food
The uneven floor in our room, the bathroom, hallway.and bedroom. At breakfast, ie continental breakfast, everything came at once - the coffee, cereals, fruit, yoghurt, pastries, pain au chocolate, croissants, and toast. Toast stone cold and rock solid by the time we got to that part.
Asked for a wake up call but never got one and overslept.
The room was very dated
Dated
Location
Food menu in restaurant a little boring
The location
The food wasn’t good . There was an atmosphere from the staff due to them being made redundant or losing their jobs due to the hotel closing in September. This had a definite impact on on our stay .
Lovely old building right in centre of Chester
Little bit tired in parts but is about to close for refurbishment
The perfect Chester central location next to the East Gate Clock, the building history and nostalgia held in time, excellent door and reception staff. Booked well in advance for a wedding in Chester, so had a good price offering. Lovely evening drinks bar.
Asked to add on a room for another guest and the price per night was more than my earlier booked price for 3 nights and there was no flexibility whatsoever or discussion, which was disappointing. Room was not available upon early check in which was requested well in advance, but we were able to safely leave our bags which was helpful. Very difficult to rate as the hotel is closing ready for refurbishment, which it desperately needs, from carpet, furniture, upholstery, furnishings to actual room and bathroom finishings. Having known that in advance we would have probably stayed elsewhere, however it is an iconic building in a super location. Sadly the worst breakfast experience ever to have received from both female dark jacket staff over the 3 mornings, both incredibly rude and unpleasant for absolutely no reason. On one morning we were placed at a table with missing condiments and butter, just no care or attention to detail. However, all other serving staff were very good, friendly and personable. Let's hope the new opening reveal will return full joy to Chester City Centre.
Location was excellent in city centre, clean and comfortable room.
Car park having to pay separately and addional for a cooked breakfast.
Location was unbeatable
Having to pay £12.50 extra for cooked breakfast is a bit much
Great old hotel. It’s closing down for refurbishment for two years hopefully it will return better than ever
Location is perfect, right in the city centre.
I understand they are closing for refurbishment but the room were not what I expected. The bathroom was the worst. It certainly wasn’t worth the money you pay per night. Staff were friendly but stood talking to each other whilst we struggled with the mai entrance door to the hotel. Restaurant staff weren’t bothered and slow. Compulsory trip even if you don’t want to. Breakfast not great. Lift not operated by room cars so anyone can access all floors, even directly from the car park! 3 coat hangers, no spa details. Just not value for money- I would definitely look around for an alternative hotel for the price per night.
Dream location right in the centre of Chester. The executive room was spacious and well laid out.
Having to book a breakfast time - I’d rather play that by ear and turn up when I wanted brekkie.
Great location and a beautiful hotel. Lucy at breakfast rescued a bad experience-she deserves a pay rise!
The rooms looked tired and breakfast took an hour to arrive.
Location
Room could do with a bit of tlc
great breakfast we've got an upgrade due to some issue in our room. the room we ended up getting was amazing! excellent location, in the heart of the historic center.
Location is just fantastic in the midst of city, and wallet parking is available. Rooms are ok, although somewhat old and in need of restoration. Good service.
restautant is fine, but the bar could be better (a little "atmosphere" would be great) and a devoted barkeeper would be good!
Location is excellent.
It’s a bit old. The marble in the bathroom is cracked. Old style taps and non-removable shower head are not very friendly. Air quality is not good. My husband has been sneezing the entire night until the next morning. Probably the AC system needs a proper cleaning. Breakfast served in very slow motion. A long queue after 9:30am and it takes 20 mins to service the food.
The hotel is beautiful. Check in was quick and easy and staff made us feel important right away. Our room was lovely and clean with nice products in the bathroom. A good tea tray too. Breakfast included was continental style but all served at the table. Lots of choice of cereals fruit, yoghurt pastries and toast. There was a cooked option at extra cost but we had had plenty and didn't order it. Staff were lovely.
Absolutely nothing the whole place is just beautiful.
Beautiful stay and friendly staff
Loved everything do think that parking concessions for staying at Hotel should be included
Central to the city
Tired looking hotel, cold breakfast room!
location
nothing
Location great
Dim lighting in bedroom so hard to find a place to put makeup on while husband in bathroom Room smelt musty No view ( out on to roof)so thick net curtains made the room more gloomy
We have stayed numerous times but you could see by poor service and cleanliness that it is in the process of closing down.
Komfort, Lage und ruhiges Schlafzimmer.
Englisches Frühstück nur gegen Aufpreis.
Great hotel, in top location

The overall quality and ambience of the hotel made for a relaxing stay where one felt special. The food was very good and the service from all staff was superb. The room was comfortable, quiet and as well appointed as one could expect. Furnishings and decor of the room and general access spaces added to the feel of quality.
Nothing springs to mind.
As always the hotel and staff were excellent. The service from when you check in the breakfast the next morning is second to none.
NA
Great location. Great parking. Restaurant really nice. Decor looks good
Phone in room broken (suite). Shower tiny. Was cold. Instant coffee facilities in this day and age.
The location, food and friendly staff really made our stay so enjoyable.
Our room was a little tired, stains on carpet, scuffed walls etc. Not what I expected from a 5 star hotel. In particular as it used to be immaculate.
Location excellent
Bathrooms dated and hotel too
Everything was lovely. Yes it’s dated, but the refurb is happening soon.
Nothing. All good
We've stayed here lots of times and will miss it when it closes.
Some of the standards have slipped, which is a shame.
Wonderful traditional hotel. Staff are amazing. Spaceous, well equipped rooms.
Breakfast, although good quality, could be a better offering. B&B rate only included a continental breakfast with a £12.50 supplement for a cooked breakfast. Only 4 coat hangers- pretty inadequate.
The location was unmatched! You're right where the famous Eastgate Clock. Literally just under it. The staff were absolutely professional, welcoming, and helpful. The breakfast area was very nice, I looked forward to going down for breakfast and I usually don't go to breakfast even if it was included.
The carpet in the room was in an awful state! And the bathtub was absolutely worn out! The room was beautiful, but it's sad that it's neglected. It needs to be maintained to keep up with the 5 stars that are on this hotel. I refrained from showering until I went to the second location in my travels across the UK. Couldn't step into the bathtub. It looked grim.
The building is stunning, staff excellent, service outstanding
Great location
Aircon did not chill the room and the fridge did not chill the drinks. No paying £4.50 for a hot Coke!
We have stayed quite a few times we love this hotel , and we cant wait to cime back after it has been refurbished.
Car park was a bit of a nightmare trying to find a space as Chester must of been busy , when we have stayed in the past we have pulled up at the front of the hotel and the car was taken away by the guys at the front which was a nice touch that seems to have stopped ? Need extractor fan in the bathroom and the shower sprayed over past the shower door i couldnt seem to adjust the shower head ti stop it.
Location and quality
Evening meal menu was limited
Historical and nostalgic Shame it is closing for renovations . Hope it reopens after work is done . Excellent food and service at the restaurant . Staff were always courteous
The bed was comfortable . The staff were helpful.
mini fridge hadn't been checked
Excellent location, excellent staff
Upgraded was a surprise! Huge bed fantastic facilities!
Access from carpark confusing and stressful.... Contentental breakfast disappointing..porridge awful ..out of a packet! Stewed tea. And toast not good.warm milk on cereal..
Location
Tired really old fixed pipe shower no pressure and bath took 20 mins and still hardly any water in bath. Room needed total overhaul very very dated
Central location large bedroom and spacious comfortable bed most staff helpful and friendly
Tired decor it’s closing for refurbishment at the end of the month Poor service during breakfast on one of the mornings we stayed
Location , bedroom, breakfast and professionalism of staff
Nothing
Great location
A little tired. Stains on the room carpet. Old school shower in the bath.
A wonderful five star hotel. In a perfect location right on the main street and walking distance to all other attractions. The room was spacious and offered everything. The bath robes were so soft. The breakfast was really good and fresh and in their beautiful brasserie area. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend this beautiful hotel
Not much. It would be nicer to have one sink spout in the bathroom to have warm water.
Liked the fact we got an upgrade to the Presidential suite a very nice surprise, staff were very friendly and the continental breakfast was very good.
Nothing
Friendly staff very helpful
We had to pay £12.50 each extra for a cooked breakfast and £16 for car park and the room cost £250 for 1 night
Good room size Very comfortable bed Room was quiet on night so a good nights sleep Reception staff friendly and efficient
Continental breakfast service at table was terrible. Ages to be taken to table. 15 minutes until order was taken and then they took over 20 mins for croissants and some porridge to arrive. I mean how long does it actually take. When I asked several times how long it would be, I got no apologies but instead the rather rude excuse of we are in close down- well yes the hotel is closing down at the end of September - so basically what you are saying to me is that we DONT CARE! Shame as everything else was lovely. I do hope when IF they re-open they put in a better breakfast service to match the hotel room comfort. And parking is not at the hotel. It is in public car park adjacent to hotel. Cost £16 for 24 hours.
Location
This hotel was advertised as a spa hotel by booking.com, however on arrival was informed the spa facility was not available. This was a 40th gift for me partner and I would never have booked this venue had I known this.
Convenient for the city centre
Noisy outside until early hours. Room definitely in need of an update.
Nice staff very accommodating
Center of Chester Lovely staff
Location is exceptional, in the heart of Chester.
The room quality was no better than a Premier Inn; and very dated in places, especially the bathroom.
Classic style of hotel
It’s closing soon so some areas in need of attention but what can you expect
The hotel is beautiful, our room had everything we needed. Breakfast was a delight. Location was fab, with a way onto the hotel from the car park.
Mini bar was overpriced, poor Wi-Fi
Fabulous
Notjing
Great value for money, room was a decent size with a generous bathroom. Comfy bed. Staff helpful and friendly
Great location and convenient parking.
Location is great
Very tired. I know it’s being renovated which is good. Directions to parking is important but there was no information. Check in was polite and friendly. Restaurant was poor service - it really felt as though I was getting in the way even though it was quiet. Room was tired and a little grotty.
The bed was very comfy and the breakfast was delicious.
As the hotel is closing at the end of September most of the staff have given up caring! We also had booked spa treatments months in advance and they were cancelled the day before.
Great location
Tired looking rooms at the price
Very friendly welcome and comfortable room.
Therma spa very run down, sauna was out of use steam room smelt very bad.
Location was exceptional, within the city walls, walking distance from everything needed for an enjoyable stay. We had a deluxe room, it was spacious quiet and comfortable. The continental breakfast offered many choices, it was freshly made and served by attentive staff. Our Deluxe rooms did not offer a view
The bathtub was very narrow and curved, making showering treacherous. The hotel is scheduled to close in 6 weeks for a major refurbishment, staff have started to leave and it showed. We hope the refurbishment is sympathetic to the age and history of the hotel- it is a high priced option, but this may be your last chance to experience it for a few years
A nostalgic trip back to The Grosvenor for our 40th Anniversary . We’ve been coming here for years, and it remains one of our favourite places, with its timeless old-world glamour and charm. As always, the staff were helpful and welcoming. Our continental breakfast, included in the room price, was delicious and plentiful — the perfect way to start the day. It’s lovely to return to somewhere that still has such a wonderful sense of character and tradition.
With The Grosvenor is closing at the end of September, this trip was a chance to experience it one last time. Sadly, the hotel is now well overdue for a refurbishment, and there was quite a lot of visible wear and tear in places. It has unfortunately lost some of the sparkle and grandeur that made it so special. Our room was comfortable, but it was clear that many of the furnishings and fittings are now in need of replacement. It was sad to see the hotel in this condition so I’m hoping whoever take on the task of the refurbishment brings it back to it former glory 🙏
Location Size of room Staff attentiveness and service Amenities in the room The food in the restaurant was amazing
Thought the snacks in the room slightly on the pricey side. Not told the spa facilities had been shut when booking
Great location , lovely building , friendly service and great breakfast
Parking in car park next door - view from room over a roof
Good location, comfortable bed and nice staff
Ironing fell apart when trying to use, trouser press not working, room a bit dated.
The staff is friendly, especially the bar staff, and the location is beautiful. Good bed, although quite small.
It is not a 5* hôtel. It is 4*. The price is too expensive for what it is I am afraid. The breakfast is ok, nothing special. We had lunch in the hotel. The food was OK, but not matching the price. If you are used to fine dining you will be disappointed.
Location great
Breakfast poor, cold food and staff inadequately trained.
Brilliant location Beautiful hotel Very relaxing Breakfast was amazing
Only staying 2 nights
Great over might stay ideal location and wonderful helpful staff..❤️ Phil & Chris Bush
History and style
Location, room, facilities
Breakfast was extremely poor and really lets the place down. Brown fruit, cold toast, rude staff when got our drink order wrong. Sighed, rolled eyes and walked off. Had to ask another member of staff for tea ten minutes later. It was my partners birthday so really let us down.
Its location
Very dated and lack of communication from staff. We had arranged the valet parking in advance. On the day of arrival we arrived at approximately 1.30pm to be told at the bollards for entry that we should have arrived before 12 noon as that’s the latest time for the valet parking. We explained to the gentleman we had not been informed of this and were told you will be lucky to get the parking. My friend telephoned the hotel and after speaking to various people the manager finally agreed for the bollards to be put down so we could drive to the hotel for the valet parking. Breakfast was lukewarm and we had to request some toast 3 times before it came. It seems as the hotel is closing for refurbishment that staff had little interest in anything.
Location. Staff
That is closing down
Location as is in the centre of Chester
Room was tired, decor was awful, AC wasn’t working, light flashing in the bathroom. Paid for drink on arrival and never got it. Given the reputation of The Grosvenor and the price you pay, I really was disappointed with the stay.
Het elegante hotel midden jn de stad!
Location
Could do with an update
Central Hotel with a bit of class.
Slightly overpriced considering it doesnt have a pool etc
Lovely staff
Shower over bath
The location
We booked a birthday night away, in the hope of using the spa facilities as it was adverstised as a spa hotel. Once we arrived and called, we were told the spa facilities were not in use.
Ideal location .
Nothing.
A very nice hotel. Staff very helpful and accommodating. Check in very easy. Great position in chester. Would definitely stay again. Good breakfast too.
Nothing.
The location is amazing, straight from carpark level 2 into hotel get the lift to ground floor reception and you are in the mists of everything.
Spacious old world luxury. A chef who took a personal interest in my dietary requirements and was most accommodating.
A little frayed in places
The comfort and surroundings, staff were great
No view from room looked onto a roof top and air conditioning units
Great central position. Staff were excellent and attentive but not overdoing it! Breakfast at a table by the window - great for people watching with view of the famous clock tower. We were upgraded to a small suite, which was comfortable.
Although lovely to be upgraded, the room was a little tired - needed refurbishing.
Great Location, friendly staff… Lot of history and an amazing chandelier!
There was no hand soap provided which I’ve never seen before in a top Hotel… (Any Hotel come to that)
Top class accommodation in a delightfully central location.
