Estupenda piscina.
The room was over the top. And the view, not enough words to describe the peace and tranquility of the sea view and the hillside. Such attention to detail. Housekeeping was phenomenal
Nothing
The location/view and facilities
Charging €5 service charge to walk down a short flight of steps to deliver a tonic water to our room
The view was lovely, the breakfast buffet was good. Max, the breakfast waiter, was excellent.
The suite was dark and the balcony tiny, though it did have a good view. I thought we would have more outside space and the living room was useless to sit in because it was so dark. I was very disappointed that I paid 800 euros per night for bed and breakfast, yet any extras (such as an omelette or fresh-squeezed orange juice) were charged additionally. I feel they should have been included. Similarly, no water was provided gratis in the room and every bottle was charged for. And the car parking / valet service was an extra 25 euros a day. For 800 euros, I would expect not to have to pay additionally for water or breakfast extras, nor to park my car on the hotel property. This was all very disappointing.
The new section of the hotel is very nice. I was in a large room with a private pool, balcony and outside area to lounge in the sun. The room is well decorated and laid out. The view is breathtaking. I'd be surprised if you can beat it in the whole of Sicily to be honest.
Only a very minor point, but communication with the font desk is not always straight forward from the room. Having tried using the room phone to make the odd request, I was asked to use the WhatsApp service instead. I then found this was often ignored. Not ideal and hopefully can be fixed, as otherwise the service is great once you get through to someone.
Emplacement exceptionnel avec vue panoramique sur la baie et l'Etna. Jolie décoration. Personnel attentionné
The whole experience was perfect, romantic and very comfortable. The food and wine was delicious. The staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful.
Would we stay there again? Possibly! We love Sicily, we love Taormina but maybe we'd choose to be more central without having to use the very convenient shuttle every time we wanted a coffee in town. That's a matter of our choice as is the price, worth every penny for the position, the amazing views, the quality of food and wine and the comfort. And the staff were just fab. Thanks!!!
The amazing view, the quiet and infinity pool, the staff nice and helpful, the shuttle service were great.
The breakfast was basic, the cost of the night vs the quality of the rooms.
The view was sensational, felt like we could see the whole of Sicily from our room. The room was spacious and well kept. The infinity pool was beautiful too.
All of the staff that we met were enthusiastic, kind and friendly- Giuseppe's list of vegetable-forward custom cocktails are a must-try during your stay. At the restaurant, Fabio and Max were kind and attentive. Thanks Max for bringing breakfast to our room a couple of mornings :) View from the front of our suite was sublime- we could've just sat at the table at the front of the suite and stared at the view from Villa Ducale for the entire four days that we were there. Location is excellent- even in early May, Taormina was packed with day-trip tourists and it was really nice to be tucked away from the hustle and bustle of tourists. Make sure to check out the infinity pool!
No notes
The amazing view and friendly staff. The restaurant is delicious and the rooms beautiful (what a shower!!!)
A little noisy early morning when the restaurant above our bedroom is being set up.
Great view and nice pool.
Would have expected a cooked to order breakfast to be included within the price.
Room and hotel were amazing! Brand new and clean! Beds were really comfy and attention to detail in the rooms were great
No complaints!
Remarkable view Lovely interior Amazing food Friendly staff Convenient shuttle down to the town
Everything is stunning
Exceptional place, overlooking all of Taormina. Great room (Very thankful for the upgrade!), friendly staff, very good breakfast, very useful parking place for the car and regular shuttle up and down for free. All great, thanks a million!
Nothing to report, we didn't get to use the beautiful swimming-pool, but that was due to the fact that it was almost december.
Taormina was the final stop of our Italy trip – staying at this hotel for 4 nights totally made our happiness overflow! The stunning views and Taormina-style breakfast are a given, but the hotel team went above and beyond for first-time visitors like us. Santina at the front desk was absolutely amazing – she said, “It’s our responsibility to make you feel right at home.” The entire team was incredibly thoughtful, taking care of every detail to ensure our trip was smooth and enjoyable.
We stayed in one of the new rooms with out door hot tub (a cover to keep the heat in would be good) and a view over the infinity pool to the Taormina and the sea in one direction and Etna to the side. The room was very spacious with a long thin bathrooom on the rear and a lounge to the side. There is also a large veranda with easy access from the bedroom. The staff were very helpful and the breakfast was good with great views over the bay. We ate one night in the restaurant but this was disappointing. Overall though we had a lovely stay.
What a perfect setting and gracious hosts. Our room offered a lovely balcony with lounges and a table. The view was outstanding and memorable. The staff helpful and attentive, always addressing us by name and offering to assist. Perfect setting and stay!
We had the most amazing experience at Hotel Villa Ducale! From the moment we arrived, everything was exceptional. They upgraded our room for our anniversary, and it was spectacular! The room had an amazing view, with a beautiful balcony and a hot tub. In addition to the hotel being stunning, the service was impeccable; they truly treated us like family and were very attentive to all of our wants and needs. The breakfast every morning, overlooking Mt. Etna, was wonderful. We cannot say enough about the hotel and the gorgeous property! They made our 30th Anniversary trip so special, and we will definitely be back! Highly recommended!
Everything was magic! Unique views over sea and Etna, fantastic facilities, great staff, delicious food, comfy bed, quiet and classy
Nothing, it was excellent
The view and the pool
There was a humidity odor
We had a wonderful stay at Villa Ducale. The location of the hotel is perfect - above the centre of town so away from the crowds and with a beautiful view of Mount Etna and the coast. There is a pedestrian path nearby down into the centre which we used to go up and down. There are lovely views along the way. If you prefer not to walk then you can use the Hotel shuttle. We stayed in one of the beautiful new suites which was very comfortable and peaceful, with a lovely balcony and an amazing view. Breakfast was very good. We also ate dinner in the restaurant Incanto and it was by far the best place we ate during our time in Taormina. The food was delicious and the service also far more attentive than in other restaurants. There is also a wonderful view from the terrace which is magical in the evening. Finally and most importantly, the service at the hotel is excellent - the staff at the hotel are all very friendly and helpful. Thank you!
We spent 3 nights in the hotel. The location offered spectacular views of Mt. Etna, the ocean, and villages carved into the hillside. The atmosphere of the hotel was welcoming and extremely helpful, from making restaurant recommendations and reservations to arranging shuttle service. We can’t say enough about the amazing staff! Breakfast on the open veranda was delicious and attentive. Our room had beautiful views and was both clean and private, with crisp white linens. Considering the level of service, location, and accommodations, the value was excellent!
The hotel, staff, food, and overall quality were exceptional. The communication with staff members for any of our needs was outstanding.
The location was great, albeit a little far from the main commercial areas. That being said, the hotel shuttle was efficient and reliable.
We had a great experience with the entire stay first three nights in room with an amazing view of the ocean and Mt Edna. Starting from dinner overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and great selection of fish and sea food . Shuttle service to the city center was great and saved a lot of time and taxi fares. Highly recommend for the great experience in Taormina 7 out of 5
A most amazing hotel and experience. Everything was top notch -- the included breakfast, the amazing dinners, the exceptional views from all parts, the INFINITY pool, and the friendly staff. We stayed 4 nights in Villa 21, the biggest of their rooms, and it was amazing. The free 5 min shuttle to and from the heart of town (Corso Umberto) allowed us to ditch our rental car that we had used in the rest of Sicily, and with it the stress of driving in Italy. The hotel recommended a great Etna Wine Tour with Etna People, as well as a beach club where we spent an afternoon drinking, eating and enjoying the beach life. We could not have asked for a better hotel, and we will definitely be back.
First class service which cannot be faulted. It is expensive but the I have the impression most hotels at this level in this town at high season are. The restaurant is excellent and the service for tourists is very helpful.
Our first time in Sicily with Taormina being our first stop. We arrived at hotel Villa Ducale and received the warmest welcome ever from Santina and Daniel. All the staff were amazing and helpful here including the dining staff but we had the most interaction with Santina and she made a lasting impression! We would go back just for that reason! The infinity pool overlooking the sea from high in the cliff is amazing. Breakfast was great with an equally amazing view. We had a welcome dinner that was exceptional, and the night view was also amazing. Rooms are kind of small but adequate, but the staff , the food, the complimentary shuttle to town, the food and the pool made the room size irrelevant. Our only concern was that we only planned 3 nights there but needed 5! We look forward to returning to Villa Ducale!
Beautiful hotel with beautiful rooms and views. Service was excellent- shout out to Max during breakfast for just being wonderfully attentive. The hotel also has a restaurant with a beautiful view where you can easily watch the sunset. The infinity pool was lovely as well
What a wonderful experience for us at hotel villa ducale!!! Unforgettable experience and the staff was absolutely amazing!!! We even decided to extend our stay ❤️
It’s difficult to convey how much this hotel exceeded our expectations. We booked last minute without much in formation about the hotel. The photographs online were mixed. But when we were shown our suite, we were blown away. It was completely brand new. The bed was the comfiest bed we’d ever slept in. The view is the best view from a bed we’ve ever had. The furnishings and products are amazing. Next we explored the pool area. There is an absolutely stunning infinite pool overlooking the sea. Finally, the staff…they were all incredibly helpful, charming, and lovely. We spent the last day of a ten day trip here, and it really made leaving for raining England even harder. Thank you for a wonderful stay. P.s. There is also a free shuttle bus to the town and we were allowed ti enjoy the pool for a whole day after our morning check out.
Wonderful experience! Highly recommend this beautiful boutique hotel perched in the hills above Taormina that gives sweeping views of the sea and Mt Etna and gives impeccable, high quality service and hospitality. The new infinity pool is so perfect! Like a dream. Our private terrace was so beautiful! The staff, I can’t say enough about how warm and friendly they are- truly I felt like we were received like family. The breakfast offers delicious local fresh foods with great variety and the Incanto restaurant as well has creative cocktails, great wine list and gorgeous food with literally the best view in Taormina. Free shuttle to and from city center and beaches- this hotel is my home when I go to Taormina for so many reasons! Go visit them and you will discover another jewel in the crown of Taormina. Unforgettable experience!
Hotel Villa Ducale is surely one of the more picturesque hotels in Taormina. The main lobby and restaurant offers sweeping views of the water up to Mount Etna. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and go out of their way to book restaurants, taxis, or just offer suggestions on enjoying Taormina. The hotel offers shuttles to beach clubs, and also to Taormina which is approximately a 10-minute drive down the winding mountain road. You will need to reserve your place on these shuttles in advance.
What an incredible experience at Villa Ducale. EVERYTHING exceeded our expectations. From the moment we arrived, their team made us feel so comfortable. The front desk ladies gave us a glass of champagne, gave us directions and let us check in early. The hotel and rooms were beautiful and had the best views in all of Taormina. The restaurant, food and ambiance was divine! The staff knew it was my birthday, sang me happy birthday and gave me cannoli and tiramisu. Overall, the experience was incredible. Thank you so much to the staff for making the such an amazing stay!
It was our first time to Taormina, so no comparison possible, but I genuinely find it very hard to believe there is a hotel better than Villa Ducale! The view is fabulous, the hotel very charming. We especially loved Villa Ducale for its boutique and intimate atmosphere, which suited us far better than the bustling, touristy center of Taormina. The road to the hotel is not easy (narrow and curvy) but the hotel arranges a shuttle service to the centre, every hour. Finally, special thanks to Giuliano and Daniel - the concierges - who were a tremendous help to plan our holiday! They suggested restaurants, activities, etc, and helped us to plan and book everything - never experienced service like this before!

We chose this hotel as the final stop of our two-week honeymoon, and it turned out to be the perfect choice. The views, the food, and the facilities were all wonderful, but what impressed us the most was the service. Although the style of hospitality was different from what we are used to in Japan, it was warm and friendly, and it made us fall in love with Sicily. (This was our first time visiting the island!) My wife was also very happy, and it became the perfect ending to our honeymoon.
When we arrived by car, parking was a bit of a challenge, but the hotel staff kindly helped us.
We were disappointed with the hotel and would not go back. Our Superior room was very small and the chairs outside were on the path to the pool and so did not have any privacy. We did find one member of staff on reception very rude on one occasion and told him so. There was no apology. If the shuttle back from the town is full up, it won’t make a second journey to come and collect you, so that is something to be aware of. On the bright side, Max is a wonderful waiter who was friendly and full of charm and always went the extra mile.
I can’t say enough about Villa Ducale. From the very moment we arrived the staff made us feel like family. They greeted us with Prosecco, showed us to our room, and literally catered to us from start to finish. The front desk staff (Santina, Giuliana, and Daniele) were so incredibly friendly and saw to our every need. Guiseppe, Francesco, and Max waited on us with impeccable manners. The accommodations were clean and comfortable and the view was stunning.. We even had our own little balcony. finally, chef Enrico prepared the most delicious dinner we have ever had! We will definitely come back!
Personal super atent i menjar espectacular!!
Las vistas, la piscina maravillosa, la habitación amplia y con una decoración muy cuidada
This hotel was perfect. The rooms were big and had a wonderful terrace. The AC in the room worked well. The bathroom was okay because the toilet is separate from the sinks and shower, which is nice so people can use them at the same time. However, it would be more convenient if a sink was added with the toilet. The new pool area opened recently. The book in the room says it opens at 9, but it actually opened at 10 every day. It should open earlier. The lobby and dining area are very good. Dinner was amazing, and breakfast had a great selection. The staff are all so kind. They also have a private shuttle that takes you to and from the town and hotel. Overall, the hotel is perfect. The view and location are amazing.
We stayed for 10 days at Villa Ducale and it was absolutely wonderful. Being so close to the city center, this hotel is very remote at the same time. Far away from the crowds of Taormina with a spectacular views and the most amazing staff. I believe that people make your stay special or not and Villa Ducale would never disappoint. Max and Fabio during breakfast would make you feel special guests as you are visiting their home. Santina, Giuliana and Daniel at the reception/concierge desk would answer any questions or book any possible or impossible requests. The shuttle drivers Rosario and Servio are super helpful and friendly as well. Thank you so much! We would definitely come back and would always highly recommend this hidden gem of Taormina.
The hotel has spectacular views and lovely common spaces. The staff is friendly and professional. Unfortunately, our Deluxe Room was a big disappointment. It was very small, even by European standards (barely room for the bed and two nightstands; not even room for a chair). Odors vented into our room from the adjacent kitchen. In addition, we were awakened early in the morning when the kitchen/dining staff went to work. (Notably, Deluxe is Not the lowest room category.) The room had a lovely terrace, but unfortunately there was construction going on in the building next door with workers hammering, etc all day long (even Saturday). Once they left, the terrace was peaceful and offered gorgeous views. We asked if we could move to another Deluxe room, but were informed the only other one available received even more guest complaints:( The hotel is in a peaceful area of Taormina. There's a shuttle that takes you into town, or you can walk. We used the shuttle in the evenings. Restaurant food is good. Maybe we were just unlucky in our room assignment, but given our experience, I would not recommend.
Emplacement très éloigné du centre ville (20 minutes de marche par des escaliers (600 marches) avec un dénivelé important.
Service de navettes à ameliorer
A truly wonderful hotel experience. Very helpful and hospitable staff, with great recommendations and assistance with reservations. Such a beautiful location, and quite peaceful.
Великолепный отель, персонал очень доброжелательный, готовы всегда помогать в любых вопросах, без нареканий, от отеля в центр города ходит шатл, очень удобно
Не во всех категориях номеров предоставляется питьевая вода, хотя отель 5 звезд.
We spent 3 nights in this hotel and booked a classic and deluxe room, the latter of which was upgraded to a design luxury suite. Staff was very friendly and we appreciated the well served welcome drink. The suite had a nice view on the strait of messina and a comfortable bathroom with huge shower. The classic room for our daughters was rather small but had a very large terrace area with sunbeds and a view on the Etna. The existing pool is rather small but very soon (still in August we were told) they will open an additional inviting infinity pool which will offer a much nicer view too as they are expanding the hotel with additiinal rooms. A pity it was not open yet when we arrived! It is the sister hotel of downtown villa Carlotta (same owners). Main difference is the location as Ducale is situated much higher offering a great view on the city. There is a staircase road from the Santa madonna dell rocca church nearby which takes you to the center of Taormina in less than ten minutes. The shuttle service from the hotel every hour of the day till 22:30 is a welcome service as taking the uphill road back to the hotel is a bit of an exercise in the heat but in the end we did it a couple of times as we enjoyed a small work-out. (The road is featured in the White Lotus filmed in Taormina when one of the guests goes for a morning run). Breakfast is served on the terrace with views on Mount Etna. Oh and the nearby Sarracena restaurant offers great food and views on the city at night! Overall we have very good memories of this hotel!
Beautiful
We as a Brazilian family considered an awesome hospitality. We had lovable days. Max and the breakfast team made us proud everyday. Thanks a lot.
We had a fantastic stay at this hotel. We had a room (design suite) which overlooked the bay and it was really quiet with absolutely stunning views. We used the hotel shuttle to get in to town every day and this was a really easy process using their WhatsApp messaging system . All of the staff were extremely polite, friendly and helpful . They expertly arranged for us to go up in a helicopter over Etna - even arranging a taxi to take us there. It was seamless service. They also booked a taxi to nearby Castelmola which was a beautiful place for a couple of hours to have lunch and a stroll. The breakfast every day was really good. A lovely selection of fruits yoghurt, pastries, salmon, some hot meat and eggs etc. The view from the hotel over Mount Etna is absolutely perfect. We would definitely stay at this hotel again!
非常棒
Great views and excellent service meant we had a really pleasant stay. You are treated like family which is lovely, Breakfast was a good already and the evening restaurant is super with views to match. A shuttle service into the town was a bonus and used everyday.
This place was magical. We had booked another place and was extremely disappointing. We took the plunge to move places and Ducale came through in the min and nothing but a complete dream. The staff was super welcoming and helpful. The place is beautiful overlooking the sea away from the riff raff. Food was great, bedroom and amenities were all amazing. I wish we had more nights with them.
This is a magical place we drove from Catania to Taormina and getting up to the hotel was so exciting. We will welcome by a team of very caring people went through all of the amenities with us breakfast with served every day with lovely waiters and waitresses. There is a community area that you can sit down and have a cocktail at and look out at the Mediterranean. Housekeeping was wonderful as was old is that I highly recommend this hotel. The rooms were extremely spacious looting the bathroom the water pressure was outstanding which is unusual in my experience. Again I recommend this place very highly
Overall the hotel was fine The food however was disappointinly average at best and needs to be improved .
The views are phenomenal, the dining is wonderful and the staff are very very nice, helpful and fun! Our family of 13 felt very much at home there.
Beautiful, well-kept regional property ...with great staff and food
Myself and Daughter visited last week and it was honestly incredible. The views were outstanding as was the service. The food was also delicious. I’m very lucky to have eaten in some amazing Michelin starred restaurants and this may not be on par with the food in those but the food was still amazing but for the scenery and service alone it is completely worth a visit. Highly recommend
Relaxed elegance in an amazing boutique hotel! What a beautiful hotel! This was a wonderful experience! The hotel is gorgeous with stunning views of the sea and Mt. Edna. Everything is top notch from the service to the room and everything in between. The family owners and their staff pay close attention to detail and anticipate your needs. They go above and beyond. Amazing breakfasts with a gorgeous view. Dinners are absolutely superb! Only the best for their guests!
Spent 3 wonderful nights there. Beautiful property in a stunning location. Rooms were great -very comfortable, clean, well appointed. Restaurant was excellent. Hotel has a free shuttle to and from the Taormina restaurant and shopping area. The greatest feature is the service - you are treated like family from arrival to departure. Very highly recommended!
A beautiful view! Couldn't get enough of it. Everyone on the staff was amazing. They gave lots of recommendations and were always willing to help with anything we needed. Their customer service was exceptional. The rooms were very clean. We used the free shuttle into town often. It was a great perk to avoid the steps on hot days. Would definitely go back!
Cannot rate Hotel Villa Ducale highly enough, it was just perfection. The hotel staff were was informative, attentive, friendly and were always going above and beyond. The restaurant was sensational, delicious and fresh breakfast every morning and a 5 star dining experience for dinner. The rooms were clean, comfortable, stylish and have amazing views over Taormina, even the shower pressure was enpointe. The hotel is in a great location offering a shuttle service into town which is so convenient and has affiliations with several beach clubs. Would love to go back, the hotel and staff really did exceed our expectations, haven’t had service like this for 20 yrs,
A beautiful hotel where we were made to feel at home from the moment we arrived. Away from the heaving town centre with stunning views we were warmly welcomed and looked after during our stay. Daniel was a star and provided us brilliant guidance and recommendations.. all the restaurants suggested were a hit! Our room (junior suite) was spotless and very comfortable with a huge bed. If we had one gripe it would be that there was no water provided in the room but had to purchase a bottle at the bar. A small touch of providing a cold bottle of water in the mini bar would have been the final touch on an otherwise perfect stay. The complementary shuttle service to the town was a great touch and we used it regularly… you’re looking at a €20 taxi each way otherwise. The restaurant has stunning views and breakfast was plentiful. Had both dinner and lunch from the a la carte menu and the quality of food was high it not a little pricey. Definitely recommend a stay here and we’ll be back for sure.
The staff especially in the restaurant was wonderful. We had dinner in the restaurant twice and both meals were delicious and the view is beautiful.
We had a luxury sea view suite which was very expensive for what we got. The pool is very ordinary and our suite had two balconies which we couldn’t use as the seating was extremely uncomfortable. Personally we found the location inconvenient as it is quite a distance from the town. The hotel shuttle helped but inconvenient none the less. Unfortunately overall we were disappointed as it was very expensive.
Villa Ducale was a perfect place to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. The views of Mt. Etna and the Ionian Sea are spectacular. The level of customer service was amazing, including reception (special shout outs to Daniel and Sabine), the restaurant servers and chefs (delicious), the shuttle drivers and maid service. We received assistance with reservations, shuttles to beaches, and suggestions for ways to make our experience even better, including hikes to town, the beach and Castelmola. Taormina is a beautiful destination and Hotel Villa Ducale elevated our experience immensely. Thank you!
Great personal service, great breakfast buffet we delicious choices. Shuttle hourly up and down to town. Shuttle to beach clubs our favorite was Carvella beach club.
The excellent reviews of the hotel are all justified; it's an unrivaled location with astounding views of Naxos and Etna. However, the standout person who made our stay feel like family, and made each breakfast magnificent was Max (Massimo). We've stayed at plenty of luxury resorts before, but vanishingly rare is the feeling the staff actually cares about you as a person. Max is that marvelous exception: his warmth, generosity of spirit and attentiveness to the smallest detail made our stay at the Villa Ducale ideal.
The accommodations were impeccable. Beautiful, clean with a spectacular view. However, it was the staff that was exemplary. They all went above and beyond for us. Their concern for their guests and kindness to them made our stay perfect. I highly recommend this beautiful hotel.
We stayed at Hotel Villa Ducale for 3 nights on our honeymoon and had such a memorable time. The staff and team at Villa Ducale are absolutely incredible and make you feel so incredibly welcome. In particular, Max and Giuseppi were so kind, welcoming and accommodating to us. Max has such a warm and infectious personality and each day greeted us so warmly, meeting him was one of the highlights of our stay! On top of the incredible team, the views at the property are sensational and arguably the best in Taormina. The town centre can be quite hectic, so it was so nice and peaceful to have our own oasis to escape to. The hotel also offers a very convenient free shuttle service to and from town as well as private beach clubs so you are always well connected. Thank you hotel villa ducale team for making us feel so welcome and ensuring we had an incredibly memorable stay ❤️
We stayed here for part of our honeymoon and it did not disappoint. We drove up the hill and were greeted with the valet Tony who was very kind and professional and took care of our luggage and car. The hotel is seated on the hill with a stunning view and the staff were very welcoming. They were very kind to provide us with many dining recommendations and arranged reservations for local beach clubs and shuttles. The front desk staff works tirelessly to offer 24hr service and it really makes a difference as a guest. The shuttle into town is such an excellent service provided by the hotel. Couldnt have lived without it. The walk down into town was actually quite easy which we did every morning and it was lovely. Max was such a warm and friendly face to see at breakfast. He was always so kind and helpful, making our stay a memorable one. Fabio was very thoughtful to have brought me lemon with my tea without me having to ask since he noticed I had lost my voice. We highly recommend this gem of a hotel even after staying at Atlantis Bay, as it provides a different but beautiful perspective of Taormina.
Wonderful stay. Top notched service from everyone. Amazing views. Tasty breakfast with many choices. Dinner in their restaurant was very good. It’s a bit far from Corso Umberto, which was a plus for us. The complimentary shuttle was a great service and easy to book. Quiet, great A/C, and ample closet and drawers. The only very minor issue was our room lacked a bidet, which was unusual for Italy.
After a lot of research to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday, we chose Hotel Villa Ducale for a 5 night stay. What can I say, after a long career involving stays in many hotels around the world, Villa Ducale is easily up there in my TOP 5. The hotel is high the hill side overlooking the bay. It is spotless. We were given a very warm welcome after a long journey with a glass of Prosecco on the restaurant terrace whilst our luggage was taken to our room. The room (Room 11) was fabulous with a private balcony overlooking the sea and a great view of Mt Etna to the right. We ate in the hotel restaurant on our first and last nights and it did not disappoint as the food, wine and service were 1st class. On the first night we did have some confusion over ordering my wife a glass of rose or a bottle. When I said that we had ordered a bottle, the glass was NOT charged, even thought I felt it was probably my fault for the confusion. All staff that we spoke to spoke perfect English. We usually like to try to get by on the local language wherever we are, but there was no need to in the hotel. I would also like to make a special mention of the young lady at reception (Sorry but cannot remember her name)....she was very helpful in all aspects and even recommended some good restaurants down in Taormina. We tried two of them and they were indeed excellent. We tended to walk down the steps into Taormina behind the Chiesa Madonna della Rocca building, but used the free shuttle service every night back up to the hotel. Again the drivers were excellent. The pool is over the road and was always quiet and peaceful when we were there. A welcome relief to a hot and dusty day. I would strongly advise anyone driving to the hotel, to reserve valet parking. The guys in the hotel are able to manoeuvre the cars around the very tight car park. You really do need the valet parking. Finally, we had to depart very early for our flight home. I requested that our hire car was positioned to allow us to drive straight out of the car park. This was no problem at all and the hotel even provide a packed breakfast for us. We will definitely try to visit again.
