We had a wonderful time staying at the Four Seasons Hotel in Johannesburg. Everything was perfect: the rooms were beautifully decorated and very comfortable, the restaurant terrace offered an outstanding view, and the staff were extremely kind and professional. We have great memories of our short stay at this hotel and would certainly recommend it.

Staff, food and service were all too notch. I highly recommend the breakfast buffet at Flames restaurant the food is amazing and the patio views are breathtaking.

My 2 sons and I stayed at the Four Seasons Johannesburg in late June and early July. We used the hotel as our home base as we did a safari in Madikwe and then visited the Seychelle Islands. The staff here was wonderful and frequently made us feel like we were in a White Lotus episode as they always lined up to greet us and to say goodbye. A special shout out to Adam, Mpho and Precious at the font desk for always ensuring that our stay was perfect and Ayanda who gave terrific service at the coffee lounge. The breakfast buffet was amazing with a variety of fresh and tasty items- an egg station, waffle/crepe station, hot American breakfast entrees, meats and cheeses, tasty pastries and breads, a wide selection of yoghurts and cereals. We also asked for the Four Seasons to provide pickup and dropoff to the airport as well as a driver for our4.5 hr ride to Madikwe and all the drivers were wonderful and safe. But a special should out to Rabinda who drove us most of the time. He always made us feel safe and engaged in the most interesting conversations with us which made the time pass quickly! Thank you Rabinda for doing such a fantastic job. Loved our whole experience here.
Our stay at the Four Seasons Johannesburg was shorter than we’d planned, thanks to a flight cancellation that cut our time here down, but even in that brief window the hotel made a wonderful impression. The staff were the highlight. With our plans thrown into disarray, they were super helpful and genuinely kind, and that sort of warmth and flexibility means everything when travel goes sideways. It’s exactly the kind of care you hope for from a Four Seasons, and they delivered. The property itself is beautiful, and breakfast was incredible. It was one of those spreads that makes you wish you had more mornings to enjoy it, which only added to our disappointment at having to leave early. We didn’t get nearly enough time here to experience everything the hotel has to offer, but what we saw left us wanting to come back and do it properly. Based on the beauty of the property, the quality of the food, and above all the graciousness of the team, we’d happily return.
Very nice

Absolutely nothing to fault. Room was spacious, comfortable and well appointed. Excellent breakfast and Sunday lunch.
We started our 3 week trip of Africa here, stayed for three nights and were delighted with our choice. Flames restaurant is fabulous - every meal we had here was superb and the breakfasts were amazing. Our panoramic view hotel room was lovely and there were lots of welcome treats on arrival. Flowers were delivered to the room shortly after checking in which made it feel very personal. Every member of staff we came across were extremely friendly, helpful and professional. Would have been very happy to spend a few more days here.
I stayed at Four Seasons Johannesburg recently at around R10,000 a night, expecting the standard of care that price implies. My experience fell well short of it. I left my AirPods in my room. When I raised it, staff assured me they would locate them and call me back. That call never came, and no one followed up despite the promise I was left chasing the hotel. What concerns me most is that I can track the AirPods through Find My, and over the past few days they have consistently shown in Alexandra — a residential area well away from the hotel and nowhere a guest would have taken them. For an item left in my room to end up off the property entirely raises real questions about how lost belongings are handled here. At this price point I expected my property to be secure and a simple follow-up promise to be honoured. Neither happened. I'd urge other guests to be careful with their.

This beautiful, elegant hotel situated on Jan Smuts Avenue is close to Sandton, Rosebank and Hyde Park Corner, and so is very convenient for everywhere you want to go in Johannesburg. Concierge and Reception were excellent at check in and check out and throughout our stay. The hotel is arranged on the hillside so a golf buggy service is provided. This is super quick and very responsive on WhatsApp (and charming and friendly staff too). We booked a panorama room, very nicely appointed and very comfortable. Also some lovely welcoming touches which we enjoyed. All the usual amenities you expect from a hotel in this category, even a shoe cleaning service. We used the gym and heated outdoor pool, plus sauna and steam room in the spa. Well worth an hour or two in a busy schedule. We dined at Flames Restaurant in the evening and our guests all declared the meal excellent. Breakfast was very good, opting for either a hot and cold buffet or the Signature cooked dishes, included in our room rate. Service was fabulous throughout. The Westcliff did not disappoint.
Four Seasons is our second home, literally can’t stay anywhere else when we are in Johannesburg. Service is always great. Pool service is exceptional. Front desk and concierge are always willing to help. Nothing like their waffles. Very family friendly.

Well positioned. Well maintained. High standards of service through out. Attentive staff. Excellent food. Lovely grounds. Loved loved the gardens…
Absolutely nothing.
everything about the property was just amazing.
Space in the room and bathroom also all the comforts
layout is confusing and going down the stairs to the room
Property is amazing. Superbly maintained and great facilities, with amazing staff!
Very clean and the staff too friendly

Nothing, worst experience ever in a "Four Seasons Hotel”
Bad service, bad rooms, bad food, bad everything…
Locatie en uitstraling
Kwaliteit van het hotel en personeel. Ontbijt was ook zeer matig.
Exceptional service and attention to detail from staff. Amazing spa and treatments.
Loved everything!
Great stay overall. Beautiful view, excellent service and very friendly staff.
Only small issue was an emergency light in the room that couldn’t be turned off, so I had to call maintenance at 1am to disconnect it.
Room was nice - the bed was comfy and housekeeping helped make a stay comfy with a 1 yr old.
The room was just not 5 star - comparative to other 5 star hotels in Jhb and SA. We love paying for quality and this was actually lacking. Our stay at the new Houghton Hotel was comparatively better than this hotel. The room and bathroom is outdated. The breakfast buffet was not at all 5 star - compared to for example The Palace. This was just disappointing in quality, variety, and location - especially the presentation of the kitchen and food in this small, dark area. The service was absolutely abysmal - we noticed others complaining about how long they waited for something they ordered off the menu. I ordered waffles and waited around 45 minutes. I left as it was ridiculous to be waiting even more than 5 minutes at a 5 star place.
Staff very accommodating
Location is convenient. Dinner was great.
My car was scratched and the valet driver did not own up. Was given some form to fill in with security. Ibhave not yet found time to fill it.
Bet helpful staff
Limited vegetarian menu- not much of a choice especially when you staying for a longer period
I loved how the treated me as their guest and the staff was so friendly, helpful and very professional. They really made my stay a memorable one!!
there's nothing that i didn't like.
Everything
Nothing
Just spent four nights here and it was a truly superb experience. The property overlooks a lush, upscale neighborhood, its hillside setting unique and stunning. Had the opportunity to utilize a wide variety of services, including spa, room service restaurant, car service and hosted a meeting in one of the conference rooms. Everything was 5 stars all the way, but the most amazing aspect of this property is its staff, I don't think I have ever experienced genuine hospitality like this. True professionals at every level, friendly, welcoming and concerned for the guest experience. Also (important in Joburg) I felt safe and secure at al times. Many of the public areas have had a refresh or are all new, including the luxurious lobby, but the rooms are in need of a refresh. That said, I would still stay here again without hesitation and am already planning my next visit.
The service, especially from KB at reception was superb. My first room was noisy as it is close to the main road but KB was incredibly in finding a solution. Staff in general, from the spa to flames restaurant to reception to the golf cart drivers is excellent. The spa is awesome! Plus an exquisite lady called Glenda has recently been appointed Spa Manager so I can just imagine what she will bring. She is amazing with people. The rooms are very comfortable and the linen is too quality. Ask for a newly renovated room.
I think the food at flames needs to be focused on. Its good but not great.
Best ongemakkelijk moment
I consider myself well traveled, and was very much looking forward to staying at the Four Seasons Johannesburg at the start (and end) of my trip to South Africa. Having some familiarity with the area, I had debated between this hotel and the Saxon and Park Hyatt, but ultimately the Four Seasons brand, together with a central location (for a history buff like me), won me over. After two stays, I now realize that was a mistake. As anyone who is reading this review would likely know, there are two types of “luxury” hotels in this world. There are “luxury factories” which provide a five fixture bathroom and turn down service — but very little else that an airport Hilton won’t provide, and there are true luxury hotels, which are places where the answer (if you so happen to need to ask a question) is always “yes.” Unfortunately, I believe the Four Seasons Johannesburg falls comfortably into the former category. This hotel very much feels like a fair to middling Ritz Carlton in California, where almost every guest is staying on points and almost every employee can’t wait for them to leave. Don’t get me wrong, this hotel has some good points. It’s well located for exploring Johannesburg and has a good looking hard product. The wait staff and the bell men are generally first rate. But, sadly, that is about as good of a compliment as I could give this hotel. The front desk staff is overwhelmed and harried. And the restaurants and bars are *exactly* what you would expect in *any* luxury hotel *anywhere* in the world. I understand that the hotel recently opened the bar in the lobby and I have to say that they made a huge mistake by not putting a real bar (with barstools) in that space. There is effectively zero bar scene at this hotel, apart from a few interior spots in Flames, which was mystifying to me, given that Johannesburg is not exactly a walk-about town. Putting aside the rote nature of this place generally, what surprised me most was how much this hotel did not match my service experience at any of my other Four Seasons’ stays. Four Seasons has long been my gold standard in hotels. This hotel was wide of the mark and I will tell you exactly how…. I was traveling with a friend (rather than my spouse), and for our final stay booked (and pre-paid) a “family room,” which is a unique two-room accommodation at this hotel. I did so because my friend and I had widely-varying flight departures and we wanted our own spaces as a result. As the hotel did with our initial stay weeks before, our arrival was preceded by multiple text messages, ostensibly trying to “welcome us” to the hotel. One of the messages asked for my friend’s full name and address so he could check in separately. When I replied that my friend may or may not actually check in at all, depending upon the availability of an early departure from Johannesburg, the hotel’s response asked me whether I would like to change our booking to a single room. I didn’t respond — because I was literally in the middle of a safari and did not want to explain to some random agent our lengthy, varying possible departure times from Johannesburg, depending upon connections and flight availability, etc. Moreover, since i had already booked (and paid) for our “family” room, I was annoyed by the request in any event. Guess what: the hotel made me wait well past check in time to have access to my “room,” and they downgraded us to a single room in any event. Of course, my friend’s flight was thereafter delayed, and I spent the evening worrying whether I was going to have to demand the hotel give him a separate room for free, since they had already given away our other room without my permission and without so much as a word to me. And yes, I checked, and the hotel was advertising that very night the same “family” room we had booked and prepaid — for hundreds of US dollars more than we had already paid. Where I come from, words that can describe the hotel’s behavior are “breach of contract” and “unfair business practices.” What I would not describe the hotel‘s behavior as is conforming with the “Golden Rule,” which Four Seasons so famously claims is its purported guiding principle. To add insult to injury, the single room to which the hotel moved me had dysfunctional air conditioning, which its engineer “fixed“ by closing off the door to my very overheated bathroom. That’s not Four Seasons treatment, folks! Q. Have you ever been downgraded, involuntarily, on any prepaid reservation—anywhere? A. Only at the Four Seasons in Johannesburg. The bottom line is that what this hotel delivers is inconsistent with both its price and certainly the Four Seasons brand. Next time I’m in Johannesburg, I will definitely try either one of the other competitive “luxury” hotels, or simply grab a Marriott, which will undoubtedly provide just as good service and a functional air conditioner. While I will personally give Four Seasons another shot elsewhere in the world, I would steer clear of them south of the equator in Africa.
Fantastic breakfast with a great view
Stunning view, amazing service, breakfast is top notch…and the spa!
Nothing.
Food and view were very good. Room was nice but for pricing a bit disappointing.
Room could have been larger w/sitting area for pricing
The rooms and breakafst were great.
The service can be better. The temperature in the room is not good enough to control.
Rooms were old and not the used 4 season standards.
The new lobby and restaurant
The best in Johannesburg. Love the revamp.

Nothing not to like
• Exceptional location and city views – the setting really stands out. • Clean rooms overall, although the carpets in the rooms and hallways looked worn and could use attention. • Friendly, polite staff who were generally accommodating and helped make the stay enjoyable.
• While the rooms were clean, the carpet condition didn’t feel up to standard for a 5-star hotel. • In the bathroom, the tap on one of the basins seemed incorrectly installed, as it had to be turned clockwise to open (opposite of what’s typical). • Inconsistent shower pressure, making it difficult to adjust—either a trickle or full force. • Staff friendliness was mixed: some were genuinely warm, while others appeared forced, which affected the overall atmosphere. • Restaurant service was slow and hard to access even when the restaurant was about 30% full. We often had to search for waiters, and it was noticeable that other guests were doing the same. At times, staff would deliver an item and then return to the bar area, where some were watching videos on their phones. • Food wait times were long, even for simple breakfast items like fried eggs (up to ~15 minutes). • Breakfast food quality felt worse than previous visits, with heavy use of oil in hot items (eggs, bacon, mushrooms), which didn’t match expectations for a 5-star property. • Lunch and dinner menus were very limited, and most sides were also cooked in oil. There were few healthy options (no steamed vegetables and only one or two salads).
