Fabulous welcome from lovely friendly staff 🙏 a nice touch - sherry on arrival! It’s a beautiful quaint hotel right in town very easy to walk from the train station. 24 hour reception. Lovely breakfast and a real Shrewsbury experience!
The council leaf blower was out at 8 am right outside my window on Friday. It was okay for me but if you are coming in late maybe request an off street room My single bedroom bathroom would need a bit of a renewal, slightly awkward design.
Breakfast was consistently good. Very close to everything. In a nice quarter of the town.
Room 107 needs refreshing. TV in wrong place for beds Too much noise early mornings on the cobbled street underneath the room window - it really is loud, early and every day.
Staff were attentive and there if you needed (unlike a lot of hotels these days). Food in the restaurant was top class but not overpriced, and the bar was friendly and comfy.
My TV didn't work and there was a wee bit of peeling paint in the corridors but that didn't dampen the spirits too much.
Lovely old fashioned place with great food and good staff
needs a lick of paint here and there and clean windows would have been nice
Excellent breakfast.
Excellent location being very central. Comfortable beds with good bedding. Good choice of breakfast. Very pleasant staff.
Room was very warm with limited ventilation.
Staff are very friendly and accomodating. They went out of their way to make our stay (and wedding) enjoyable.
The welcoming sherry was a nice touch, especially after a long journey. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, and I experienced none of my usual backache at night. It was good to have the lounge bar area to relax in. Apart from an initial poor interaction with one receptionist, the relationship with staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was managed with brisk efficiency, but the options for hot food were more limited that in other places where I have stayed. I had two evening meals, and the quality and flavour of the food was outstanding.
I was not able to access my room for almost three hours, the receptionist having failed in her promise to let me know when it was available. Apparently, two members of staff had failed to turn up for work, which caused the initial delay. However, I was provided with a pot of tea on the house. The room could have done with more lighting.
Good breakfast and evening meal. On the whole the staff were pleasant. It was in a very interesting part of town. Nice to be offered a sherry on arrival and tea while we waited for our room to be ready.
It appeared to be understaffed. This meant twice our room had not been serviced by mid afternoon and instead of much apology we were informed that they had many rooms to service - more staff needed? This is not a cheap hotel. We did not know that it is well known as a haunted hotel and found certain aspects a little sinister!

Cleanliness
Cooked food was good Bed was comfortable
Cheap bread at breakfast Ran out of pastries Filter coffee - not that fresh Black mould in bathroom on sealant and grout
Outstandingly warm and efficient welcome and check-in The location (very central) and the old-fashioned style of the whole building Breakfast service individual and to the table Great value-for-money
There was no view at all from the bedroom window At the back of the Hotel and with a 100% opaque window A window blind not clear how to operate Did not seem to have remote unit for the television
Location is good and close to the center
The room was filled with the smell of mold, very damp. The sheets and pillowcases looked like no one had lived in it for a long time. When I asked them to move me to a different room, they said you could open the window and gave me a fan. That night, I live there and my neck was allergic because of the smell of the damp mold.
Lovely historic building. A useful lift. Very hot that day. Not able to open a window though. The bar area was comfortable and the breakfast was excellent.
Nothing really. Just a very hot summer.
The atmosphere of the hotel and very good staff
Water pressure in the shower on the 3rd floor not great. A small moan!
Location
This is what I sent to the hotel after my stay and as yet have received no response. My first stay was through Booking.com I then booked directly which was a mistake. This relates to my second stay. The first stay wasn’t great but this stay was awful. Also no bottled water in room. Fortunately I bought my own. I am writing to express how disappointed I was when I stayed on Thursday night. Firstly when I checked in I was told I could not pay cash. This had not been mentioned when I made the reservation and was extremely inconvenient for me. When I got to the room the carpet was dirty and the bathroom floor was dirty. The television didn’t work. When I went to bed there were 2 moths in the bed. Which was gross. They were the kind that eat cloths and carpets. I’ve had to wash everything I bought with me in case of contamination. When I went to bed I opened a window, obviously as it summer. It was a windy night, which was ok and normal. What wasn’t was that this caused the ill fitting door of the room to rattle in its frame which was terrifying as I thought someone was trying to get in the room. J had to shut the window which made the room very stuffy. I know it’s an old hotel but surly some tape could be fitted to make the door fit better. The next morning the shower took at least five minutes for hot water to come through after a lot of fiddling about with the 2 showers. Water then poured all over the floor when the larger overhead shower head was used. I was also told on my previous visit a few weeks before that I would be able to save money if I booked directly with the hotel, as Booking.com would then not have to be paid, yet I was charged exactly the same for the room as I had been previously. All in all not a good stay this time and a terrible nights sleep. I did not raise these points when I left as I was in a hurry for an appointment and there were also other people in reception and I don’t like to complain in front of Very disappointed
Great reception experience - ruined by a dismal breakfast interaction with a member of staff that could only be described as selectively hostile - sweet with a regular solo lady guest sat next to us, openly dismissive, intolerant and unhelpful with us
Great reception experience - ruined by a dismal breakfast interaction with a member of staff that could only be described as selectively hostile - sweet with a regular solo lady guest sat next to us, openly dismissive, intolerant and unhelpful with us. We did not deserve, or incite the reaction we received at the hands of your server at breakfast, and that experience spoiled the entire visit which had been exemplary up to that point.
Great location and comfortable rooms. Some facilities in some of my party’s rooms (tv) did not work. Some of our rooms were noisy being able to hear guests in rooms next door and above. Breakfast was fine but the buffet did run short of items . Staff very pleasant
Very clean and smart
The noise from the room above us was so loud o could hear every word of the occupants conversation. It was also incredibly hot with no air con. One of the staff at breakfast was quite abrupt.
The hotel was OK
My stay was ruined by the noise from an adjacent bar. On Sunday 30 August there was 12 hours of techno "music" and my bed was almost vibrating with the drums and base. Late that night I requested to move to a different room but there was not one available. Not wanting a repeat performance I left the hotel a day early, took a taxi to Manchester airport and stayed overnight at an airport hotel before flying home to Cyprus. I appreciate the hotel is in the town center but one of the requirements of a 4* hotel should be an element of peace and tranquility which was sadly lacking.
A dreadful experience.
Impossible to sleep due to excessive noise from a nearby pub. When I was eventually and ungraciously moved to another room it was just as bad. I was told I "should have done more research" and "what did I expect from a city centre hotel". The manager would not make herself available to discuss the issue and still hasn't. The front desk agent became aggressive and abusive telling me to "get out" and waving his hand in my face. He later realaied he had mistaken me for someone else. An absolutely dreadful experience. Nasty front desk individual. Pursuing a refund. Avoid.
Central but quiet location. Polite, attentive staff, particularly the senior breakfast lady. Appreciated the breakfast service at the table after first course self-service buffet.
While the hotel location was perfect, it meant parking was well away from it in a somewhat remote car park. There were no hooks in the bathroom so nowhere to hang clothes when bathing. Such a nuisance and so easily rectified. No grab rail in the shower. This should be a safety priority.

Location was great. Appreciate it’s a very old building but room was very tired.
Some of the staff quite rude.
The room and location where perfect and the breakfast was just what I fancied after a heavy night
All was good
Welcome. Breakfast.
The bed too soft.
Fabulous welcome and freindliness until departure. Help with storage of luggage early. Newspaper at breakfast. Best fillet steak I'd had for sometime. Smoked haddock for breakfast.. there was nothing I didnt like.
Nothing but I would have liked a larger piece of smoked haddock! A bit of fun booking in... Bookingdot. Com managed to reverse my first and last names.
A better class of hotel than I usually use and very much worth the money. Excellent food classic upmarket evening meals and genuinely very good breakfast. Lots of classic Shrewsbury around the hotel an old fashioned hotel in the best usage of the phrase.
A bit of a walk from the station but you can't change geography and worth it for the hotel you get to.
Charming period hotel in a perfect location in the centre of town. The town centre shops, museums, Quarry park and river severn are in easy walking reach. Quality breakfast. Friendly staff.
The single room was a little dated - although the bathroom / shower are recent renovations.
Clean. Comfortable bed. Welcoming and helpful staff. Central location.
Noisy pub garden adjoining hotel so noisy at night. Good double glazing but it was hot so would have been good to have window open
Great room, comfortable bed, good shower
Some staff appeared miserable, and the night porter was rude, arrival staff were pleasant and helpful, staff were generally okay, room was dusty but allowances made for it being a replacement room, parking too far from the hotel, cooked breakfast would have been perfect if I was on a diet.
Great location. Lots of interest and good historic atmosphere. Really good breakfast and helpful, friendly staff.
It was our own fault for not booking in advance but our room was an-and-down-stairs trek from reception. The room was interesting and comfortable but lacked a fan.
Location is excellent just 5 minutes from the station and right in the centre of everything. Bed and pillows were comfy. Breakfast was excellent.
Room was a bit warm as it had been a warm day. My room looked on to the beer garden of the pub next door so music outside till 11pm. Water pressure not very good.

The staff were helpful and friendly and being offered a port or sherry on check-in was a wonderful welcome 😀
There was nothing really to not like
Staff very pleasant and helpful. Went out of their way to help me feel comfortable and at ease. Lovely evening meal in a lovely, peaceful characterful restaurant. Food beautifully presented and cooked, a nice treat and nice to relax away from the noise and hassle of exterior restaurants. Pleasant, peaceful guest area to take coffee in afterwards. Nice shower and bathroom.
Bed was very uncomfortable. I could not sleep. I don't know if their double beds are better but this single bed was not good. This is a big issue and the reason I would hesitate to stay again. Breakfast was OK but I was served a very runny fried egg when I specifically asked for well done. It didn't even look cooked. Could not eat it. Apart from that I had a good stay.
Ambiance très agréable, bien situé dans la ville . Le personnel accueillant et prévenant
The history, the crooked walls and wonky floors and labyrinthine corridors.
We didn’t see a ghost.
Great location and the best breakfast I have had for; what, 30 years?
Rooms were a bit hot and stuffy, and windows didnt open. Mind you, there was a bit of a heatwave going on and the rooms did have fans.
The only issue I had was I have a broken wrist & couldn’t cut my food so I asked if I could have a omelette only for breakfast to make it easier to eat & was told NO yet there was 3 different choices of egg ???
My Aunt and Uncle had run this hotel in the 1970s so it was a real nostalgic stay. The room was what I needed and comfortable. Breakfast was traditional and very tasty. Location was perfect.
A bit dated in terms of decor.
The room was comfortable, there was no air con but we were provided with a fan. There was a wide choice of menu for breakfast.
There is nothing I can say, everything was great.
Nice, comfortable, clean room, but I had trouble with the shower, I found the contols to be stiff, probably me! no strength in my hands! Breakfast was lovely!
Creaking floorboards! and the problem with the shower!
It's worth visiting. Beautiful place
Room and breakfast were perfect. The staff were exceptionally pleasant and cheerful. The location was ideal as we were travelling by train. The surrounding area is full of history and beautiful shops. It was lovely to be in the heart of the Old Town area, and everywhere was so easy to access.
It was rather warm in the bedroom but given the current extreme weather conditions it was to be expected. However the receptionist answered the problem by providing a fan.
Ideally located for exploring the town Staff were brilliant and very welcoming Decided to stay an extra night
Not able to park at hotel Although excellent parking nearby available through hotel
Lovely room with double aspect. It was very comfortable, cosy, quiet and well-appointed with ensuite bathroom, desk armchairs tv etc
It ws perfect
Location
Small room
Location & breakfast
Decor , minimal staffing , no bottled water/glasses in rooms, no drinking glasses, only 1 toilet roll per couple etc, TV on a totally random wall no one could see. Over priced in my opinion.
Breakfast good , location good .
Hotel tired in areas Car park a distance away Very noisy at night kept awake till well turned 2.30 am
Very comfortable room with thoughtful details to suit a single person. Breakfasts very good.
Nothing.
Ideal location and lovely old building.
Fact that they went to offer me someone else’s bag and didn’t bother to ask my details first and it wasn’t the right one. So doing it by memory…
The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The receptionist found a fan for me during hot weather. The breakfast was very tasty. Care had been taken to source quality local ingredients. The hotel is a lovely historic building, and located in the centre, away from a main road, so no noise issues.
location, staff
Lovely staff, beautiful building and great location
Staff were lovely, really helpful at any time. The location is perfect for wandering around. Breakfast was delicious and the sherry on arrival was a lovely touch.
The hotel guests were quiet, minor exception of creaking floorboards above but that was it.
Breakfast was excellent and the staff were very helpful. Breakfast, one of us are not keen with a hot breakfast so some smoked salmon, meat and cheeses would have been good.
Took a while to gest our bearings to the bedroom.
The room was pretty and its position is was great. Also the breakfast choices were fantastic and beautifully cooked. The waitress was lovely too
Getting to the car park was interesting and going back there late at night wasnt nice qs it is in a dark and unlit open car park. The hotel itself is very dated and whereas we like old and traditional, the furniture seemed like it had been the same for decades and needs modernising
Location
The hotel is very tied now needs decorating the wardrobe in my room was falling to bits . The ceiling was very cracked also double glazed units had failed ..
Central location. A beautiful, historic building. Friendly staff. Good sized rooms & bathrooms.
No parking on site. Fixtures & fittings were a bit outdated (eg: not enough plugs).
Pressure of the shower was poor.
The location was excellent. The breakfast was very good, and the service was attentive and efficient. It was particularly busy on Sunday morning, but it was clear that the hotel had extra staff on hand to cope with the increased demand, which meant everything ran smoothly.
There is a pub next door, which was very noisy on the Saturday night and disturbed our stay. We experienced some very hot weather during our visit and, on request, were provided with a fan. Unfortunately, the first fan produced very little air movement even when running on full power, so it had to be exchanged. The replacement was exceptionally noisy as well. This was eventually exchanged for a third fan, which was fine. We also had one drink in the hotel bar. They did not have **three of our four first-choice drinks**, so we had to choose alternatives. The price was eye-watering, at an average of £9.25 per drink.
Excellent location. Very central. Clean room. Friendly, helpful staff. Delicious cooked breakfast.
Staff great breakfast delightful and great location
Hottest day of the year and no fans in the room Neither of us got a wink of sleep It’s a lovely hotel but the management need to be more proactive in keeping rooms cool in very hot weather as they do in cold temperatures
Great location. Friendly staff. Loads of character
Car park a bit far from hotel
The historical atmosphere - made a very interesting stay
Car parking is an issue. Once you know where it is it is not so much of a problem but initially, combined with the Shrewsbury one way system, it can cause difficulties. The other issue was the heat. In normal UK weather, not a problem, but when temperatures get above 30oC in the day 20+ at night, a fan in the room have been appreciated.
Good choices waitress very efficient good to have own teapot
Hotter toast
It was great to have breakfast available - a nice range of continental and cooked options The staff were very friendly. The room was very comfortable and had a lovely view. The hotel is in a very convenient location.
Parking in Shrewsbury in general isn't very straightforward, but the hotel does have an available car park (£10 overnight charge)
Loved this historic property. Lovely twin room, very comfortable bed. Perfect location.
Liked everything
Nice room. Excellent Bathroom. Friendly helpful staff. Good Breakfast
Noise from road outside. Early Morning Bon men and road cleaners. Car Park 5 minute walk away which wasn’t mentioned on the description
Very helpful and pleasant staff.
Room was not conditioned and humid, had to keep the window open and it was facing a very busy pub beer garden, hardly able to sleep. Pillows are very old and low.
Location, cleanliness, helpful and welcoming staff.
Nothing
breakfast
Staff when arrived were amazing
The room smelt musty and the breakfast was a big let down. Was a menu and a buffet. The menu was limited and small when arrived. The buffet was limited too.
The room, breakfast and staff were great.
When I arrived the toilet had soiled marks in the pan.
Fabulous Location, right in the heart of Town.Fabulous hotel exuding charm, comfort and history.Staff were a delight to deal with.Janice at breakfast was a star
Nothing really
The Prince Rupert Hotel is located in the centre of Shrewsbury which is very good to be able to walk to things easily . The staff were warm and welcoming. I had a lovely room , which was clean, spacious and nice sheets . Tea and coffee available if wanted , plus room service if needed. The breakfast was good value and very nice . You could have other meals there if one chose to as well. The building has a lot of history associated with it too which you can read about in the information supplied in the room which is interesting.. I had a very pleasant stay for 2 nights.
For me everything was good . There was even a lift for my heavy luggage which not all places I have stayed at.
Great location and I would stay there again. The breakfast was a really nice way to ease into the day. The hotel has a quiet elegance and a wonderful staff,
Like almost everywhere in the UK these days, air conditioning is really needed. A fan provided by the staff helped immensely; however, I was still uncomfortable. A stay during cooler weather would be just fine.
The location very good staff very good and helpful
Could of done with a king size bed lol
A very good night. Thank you
Car.park location, need valley parking. Room signage incorrect.
Goed ontbijt met heel vriendelijke gastvrouw.
Very friendly staff and a wonderful old building.
The restaurant is closed on a Sunday, but plenty of places close by to eat.
Excellent location and very welcoming staff. £10 parking in a nearby car park.
Room a little dates and shower pressure low.
Great location and totally fantastic staff. Everyone was so friendly and it was this that really made my stay.
It was very clean but quite tired looking in places
Fabulous staff :) Perfect location, bang in the centre of Shrewsbury. Lovely newly refurbished bathroom with both a walk-in shower and a bath. Breakfast.
The bedroom itself;f could do with refurbishment. The bede was a little small being a standard double.
room had a good view breakfast was excellent
Exceptional stay with the most accommodating staff in particular Charlie and Isobel on front desk. They were so helpful with my parents both in their 80’s. Lovely hotel to stay in very central. Thank you so much.
Breakfast excellent.
Bath had black mould around sealant!
Good location and staff were very friendly.
The breakfast was very basic and the bed was small and uncomfortable. Although the bathroom was modern, the bedroom was very dated.
The staff were all very welcoming and helpful, and our room was in a good location in the hotel. The staff kindly provided a fan for our use, since the weather was quite hot during our stay.
We noticed that some other guests had to keep their doors open to get some breeze during the hot weather. I hope that in the future, the hotel will lay in more fans to help with guest comfort during hot-weather periods.
It’s a great location, in the historic centre of Shrewsbury.
My room was so uncomfortable, I wasn’t able to sleep. Despite the weather being warm, there were a limited number of fans, so there wasn’t one in my room. I was a woman travelling on her own & was in a first floor room which overlooks an area where people hung out very late at night - so I didn’t feel safe having the window wide open. When I shared the feedback with staff, I felt dismissed & told ‘ladies usually like that room.’ The bed was super uncomfortable- it was some sort of single truckle bed (like my kids used to use for sleeping overs) & moved around - bizarre. It generally felt very run down, with staff working hard to keep it afloat.
Great location close to the train station, staff were very welcoming and helpful. Delicious breakfast, cooked to order.

The location is perfect.. it is an old historical building . The staff super welcomming . The breakfast amazing All public areas were perfect . Nice fluffy white towels . Bathroom was spotless and good , bed very comfortable
The room needed a refresh was quite disappointing .
The breakfast was average , nothing exceptional !
The hotel seemed full of elderly boring sounding people !
Situation is perfect and the staff were really lovely and helpful
Room was small and not of 4* standard
Great place and location. Enjoyed.
Could do with air con in the rooms but accept its a listed property
The friendliness of the staff
The runaway single beds. Seemed to like wheeling themselves across the floor whenever you got in or out. Q
