Abbots Mead Hotel

The location was excellent and the breakfast lived up to the reviews and expectation. On site parking was very convenient.

Loved the building and the interior was nice.

My shower had wear and tear. My room was cold and in the basement. I would have preferred a different room.

Great location. Be aware that there are only 10 car parking places.

We had a great stay at Abbots Mead Hotel. The room was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed and breakfast was great. The hotel is in a quiet, central location and the staff are friendly and helpful

Breakfast. As a female traveller you always feel a bit awkward arriving at breakfast in a small hotel. No staff around so just sat at a small table. A woman came bustling out of the kitchen and told me I was at the "wrong' table and made me move to an identical one next along. She seemed irritated that I had taken it upon myself to sit down but there wss no "please wait to be seated sign' so I decided to sit (wrong decision apparently!) The only difference was that this other one was set up with cup and plate. These must have been glued to the table as if I were serving I would have swapped them over in a second. When I perused the cooked breakfast menu and saw no vegan option marked I decided toast would be a good option but upon enquiring if vegan spread was available the waitress looked positively offended and gave a curt response of 'no' as if I was asking for something outrageous. All the other customers stared at me too. Made do with fruit salad and cereal from the buffet (soya milk was grudgingly provided but was weirdly warm).

The location is ideal in centre of old town so can easily walk down high street where there are plenty of cafes, restaurants, pubs, and good range of small independent shops. The breakfast was very good quality and piping hot. The room was slightly smaller than we usually have but was adequate and is limited as old building.

It did not have air conditioning, which usually is not a problem but at time of our stay it was a heat wave. They had supplied a large fan so this helped considerably. I chose hotel as it has a car park, and although it was a bit of a squeeze as I have a large car, we did manage to get it parked each evening.

Abbots Mead is a lovely building and clearly a very well run family hotel. Nice welcome from the owner made us quickly feel at home. The beds in our twin bed room were extremely comfortable and we were amazed how quiet it was during the night/early morning given our location was very close to the shops near English Bridge. Really enjoyed our breakfasts which included fresh fruit salad and a full English. The member of staff at breakfast was relaxed and very friendly. The breakfast room has been thoughtfully laid out and there is a great view out to the open garden at the rear of the hotel. We could not get over the fact that this hotel is so close to the main road shops and yet it was so calm throughout our stay. There are spaces for ten medium sized cars at the hotel and a very large car park (St Julian's Friars) within 50 yards. We will very happily stay here again on a future visit to Shrewsbury.

Location, location, location! Right by the river and riverside park and a few minutes from everything in the historic town centre - great if you haven't brought a car! Warm welcome, easy parking (but note double, nose to tail parking and keys left at reception system). Nice comfortable room, with coffee/tea facilities and clean/modern bathroom. Friendly staff at breakfast and good quality, freshly cooked food as well as cold options. Limited menu, but happy to provide off-menu requests! Small bar and nice lounge is convenient and magazines, books and games also provided!

A small-ish room, which didn't bother us as we were out most of the time exploring! Note that the bed was very comfortable but also quite a small double, which would not suit all. We were on the 2nd floor, so note stairs - no lift - if you have mobility issues.

The location was ideal with easy access to both the town and the park. Breakfast was also very lovely and the staff were friendly and very helpful.

Parking was adequate but could be a problem at busier times. It would be good to know alternatives and how much that would cost when making the booking.

Windows were very hard to close and open, very noisy as next to pubs and a road. Pillows need replacing very lumpy. Cobwebs in window, bathroom needs a deep clean. Cushions and bed runner needs replacing as worn and marked with spills. Had to have the shower head replaced as broken but was done immediately, no extra toilet rolls in bathroom but again this was rectified.

We didnt stay at the Abbott Mead hotel we were informed they didnt have a booking for us. So I dont know who is to blame you or the hotel. So after a long drive we had to try and find somewhere else to stay The Abboutt hotel called us the next day to inform me it was a mix up over the names but of course it was to late then

Everything about the hotel and staff. The staff were efficient and friendly, did their utmost to move us to another room when we didn't sleep because of the extreme heat and humidity. The breakfast was excellent too. The beautiful. River is just around the corner and all the shops etc are also very near

Fine Georgian building with sensitive decor. Located in heart of the town which is beautiful. Staff v friendly and helpful with good local knowledge and suggestions on places to eat in the evening. Delicious breakfast. Hotel is located near large public car park, but also has allocated parking spaces (approx 8) in a double row. System of leaving car key with reception to move if necessary works well.

Nothing - would highly recommend if you love old buildings. But if you have mobility issues you would have to request first floor accommodation (no lift). We were on second floor.

Nothing. I really couldn't fault anything about the stay (I suppose the parking could be better, but with a great big pay and display lot just across the road, it was very simple and inexpensive to park).

The friendly staff,. Very central for all the tourist spots. The proprietor gave us loads of information including where to eat. The breakfast was great, lovely atmosphere shall definitely book here again.

Perhaps the double bed it was was beautifully presented and clean but a tad small for us two.

Parking was easy and the staff were welcoming and efficient. The location was amazing - walkable to everywhere in the town. Our room on the second floor was immaculately clean and well provided with storage and very comfortable beds. The bathroom was excellent. We slept very well. Breakfast was amazing with huge choice and delicious cooked options. This is an excellent hotel and we will return as soon as possible.

This was our second stay at Abbots Mead. It is in a great location for visiting Shrewsbury. Parking is directly outside. Rooms are comfortable with compact bathrooms. Very nice home cooked breakfast.

Only problem was step by room which I missed forgetting it was there one morning. Would be good to advise guests if they are in rooms with this step level.

Not fault of hotel, but it was a very hot weekend and no aircon. Room was very warm, A fan was provided which helped a little.

I was in the basement room so I could hear everyone moving / using the bathroom above me In the morning with more movement it woke me up, but at night there was no issue It wouldn't stop me staying in that room again.

A pleasant Georgian house. Location is perfect. Bed comfortable. Room adequate and unfussy, En-suite smallish. Shower very good. Towels very good. Breakfast very good.

Parking arrangements a bit disconcerting. Double parking, hence car keys kept by reception. Potentially noisy with other pubs and outdoor seating very close, but wasn't a problem, despite the Champions League final being shown and some raucous cheers and groans.
