Across street from ocean
Ant problem I needed fork. Facility had no utensils. Found it very odd.
Great staff, beautiful room! The hot tub was a plus. The board walk along the coast is a highlight, add the sunsets. This is why so many visit this .Cal time capsule
Thanks to the welcoming staff your the best!!
I found an item under the bed that did not belong to us upon checking in. I reported my concern to the hotel and let them know that I was unsatisfied with the cleanliness of the hotel due to it not being cleaned properly . I asked for some type of reimbursement and they have not responded to me. So poor customer service on that front as well. You would think for all the money we pay to stay there they would be more on top of it .
No air conditioning, pool was full of sewer water, couldn’t open windows because there was no screens. Horrible experience
Quiet and close to the ocean. Convenient parking.
The property is in need of some repair. The floors are dirty, water has a strange odor and bathtub drains are very slow. The staff are aware that these problems exist and are responsive to customer requests but are limited by management in not investing more resources to upgrade facilities.
Nice property just across the road from the ocean.
Barking dogs and loud children
Room location
The great - good value, great location for beaches and forests and small cozy town The good - clean, pet friendly,
The bad - don’t arrive late. It’s very out of the way so it’s super dark with nothing open late. If you arrive at midnight the closest food is 20 miles away. We also had ZERO reception with T-Mobile. Thankfully the wifi was good. Also the tv was just cable. None of this is the fault of the hotel though but it’s worth mentioning. The terrible - nothing would go again
Trash out front of our room for the two days we were there
Ocean
the location
the grounds, the room was old and tired. The carpet ripped, the sink cracked, mildew smell throughout, blinds that were torn and wouldn't stay up. The pool was out of commission. The facility needs some sprucing up and some general TLC.
The location is nice..
The property is old and the room smelled the front desk staff was not nice I would never book this hotel again
Everything
Not much
location across the street from the beach, the bed was very comfortable.
no breakfast served, I had to ask to replenish coffee and water in the room.
Lovely outside area
Room was dark
The location is great, right across from the water. That was the only positive about this hotel.
Staff was not very friendly. The rooms (we had 2) needed some serious deep cleaning and the entire hotel needs a lot of work. Mold around the windows, filthy floors, tons of stains and wear on the walls, stains on all of the furniture, cracked sink, ants in the tub. The pool was empty and looking at other reviews it has been that way for months. It was definitely not worth the price we paid and we would not stay there again.
We liked the location.
The room smelled like the carpet needed cleaning. It looks like it can use some updates. No do not disturb signs for doors. Confusion with check in.
Camera spaziosa, struttura molto curata e fronte mare
Mi sarebbe piaciuto ricevere la colazione e non solo caffè
location was wonderful. Like it was pet friendly, and no stairs to climb
I wish there were instructions on TV remote it was confusing. Morning check out person was not friendly and I wanted a receipt and he said I would get it by email. I have not gotten a receipt by email.
The location by the beach was great.
When we checked in we were told room was ready but after going to our room with keys bed wasn’t made and dirty towels in bathroom ! Room was dirty! We went back to office as did another couple who were by us there room was the same too! We were given new clean room. Never had a maid come next day to empty trash or do anything for us next day. We stayed two nights Friday till Sunday. I would not stay there in future.
parking great and wifi free
no ice machine broken kitchen window curtain broken would mot go up or down staff seemed confused when we arrived
It was easy to get to so many places from this property. Hearst Castle, Morro Bay, and the great shopping in Cambria.
The location , the room , the vibe. Amazing. Well worth it if you passing through on a Cali coast road trip.
Nothing we didn’t like.
They advertise on Booking.com that breakfast is provided, but they don't actually provide breakfast. Staff is not helpful and customer service oriented. I requested an Oceanview room, they responded and said they would have that for me and when I arrived they said they couldn't provide that to me even after I showed them the email from them. Very disappointing. Wouldn't stay there again.
The location of the property was the best!
The furniture in the rooms needs to be thoroughly cleaned and the carpet in the room either needs to be very well cleaned or replaced. The drain in the bathtub backed up the first night we were there and we were offered another room which would’ve been quite inconvenient. The bathtub needs to be refinished as much of the paint from a previous coating is coming off. The table in the front window is loose and wobbly. We had previously read on the reviews about the Pool being out of commission and made two calls to the hotel prior to coming to verify that the pool was back in working order and were told that it was. Upon arriving, we found that the pool is still not usable and it looks like from the reviews, it has been out of commission since July 2025. It would seem the property owners should spend the money and get the pool in proper working order and the rooms in better condition.
Close to the ocean was wonderful. What sold us on the property was the fire pit. We couldn’t get it to stay on. At the most it lasted 30 seconds. When told the office he said wait 15 minutes then turn it on, they were waiting for a part. No apology at all. We did as told, only lasted no more than 30 seconds
When talking a shower soap and conditioner were out. Told the office, again no apologies. The cleaning staff did give me conditioner and bath gel soap. I had to install it myself. Then the shower gel soap pump didn’t work. 🤯. I seen an iron but no ironing board. The bathroom had a slight smell of urine.
Close to ocean
Deferred maintenance
We loved the location, the architectural style of accommodations, the amenities of the room, and the excellent mattress. Having a fireplace was a definite bonus and added to the ambiance. We loved hearing the surf as went to bed. Being able to walk onto the beach was fantastic.
The bamboo blinds in our room were in terrible condition and should be replaced ASAP. Otherwise there was nothing we didn’t like.
Swietna lokalizacja przy plazy. Piekne widoki na zachod slonca. Pokoj zadbany i bez typowego w US zapachu wilgoci i starej klimatyzacji.
I had a reservation for one night in a regular room with a king sized bed. When the clerk heard my husband and I were there to celebrate our 24th wedding anniversary, he upgraded us to a gorgeous suite at no extra charge!
I did appreciate when they used to have a breakfast room. There was Starbucks coffee in the rooms and that was great, but I suppose there could have been more of it? There could have been tea in the rooms as well?
Very pretty snd comfortable.
It was understaffed. Nice staff but not enough of them.
Location was great.
Lots of little things became frustrating. No soap in room, fire pit that didn’t stay lit. Room next to hot tub with noisy group staying in way past 10pm closing time. No ac… but couldn’t leave window open because of lack of privacy and bright parking lot light. Room did not get cleaned as requested and we had to ask again and wait several hours after being out all day.
The view of ocean and sunset.
I expected better,
Location
Staff were not helpful or friendly. Bed was uncomfortable. Did not have basic hygiene supplies like soap.
Location and spacious room with working gas fire place.
Front desk staff could have been more helpful and welcoming.
Across from ocean.
Some rooms had dirty carpets and torn blinds or blinds that didn’t work.
We like best the location. The rooms are cozy and inviting, and clean.
Mattress cover makes bed too soft.
The Fogcatcher Inn has a superb location on Moonstone Beach in Cambria. It is really the location that makes it such a delightful place to stay. The staff is excellent and very responsive. The rooms are good but not excellent. They have fireplaces but do not have air conditioning which at most times of the year is not needed. The property is large and has plenty of parking. The bed was good and comfortable.
The kitchen could have been more complete. There was only a microwave and a refrigerator with no freezer section. There were no plates or silverware. The room was not that fancy.
La posizione
L’accoglienza
There was a mix-up with the room in that I booked a room with two beds and got a room with one queen bed. The staff accommodated us at an extra cost. The booking was not the hotels' fault. The new room had a beautiful view, and the staff helped us relocate our luggage and was extremely accommodating.
Great location and a good sized room.
Not a big fan of feather pillows or the bedding. The room was hot for me so i had poor sleep. My family was just fine with it. Pool was out of order. Would be great if they had boogie boards or some bikes to rent…but there are few amenities at all.
Die Lage zum Strand war okay
Sehr dunkel, nicht besonders sauber
Magic atmosphere
Cold weather
L'emplacement top top top !!!
Personnel qui manque de chaleur, à mon sens. J'ai demandé à prolonger mon séjour. On m'a dit que ma chambre était prise pour la nuit prochaine, sans chercher à trouver une autre chambre !
Three Rooms, Same Disappointment — This Property Needs Management Attention We chose FogCatcher Inn for a road trip with friends based on the strong reviews and recommendations. Unfortunately, we booked three rooms, and all three were disappointing. This wasn’t an isolated issue with one room—the overall condition of the property suggests a significant problem with deferred maintenance and housekeeping standards. As a business owner myself, I understand that maintaining a property—especially one by the ocean—is challenging. But there is a difference between an older coastal inn with character and a property that simply isn’t being adequately maintained. The carpets in our rooms were visibly dirty and felt sticky underfoot. They appear long overdue for professional cleaning or replacement. The rooms themselves had a damp, musty feeling and surfaces felt sticky. I understand that coastal humidity can contribute to moisture and odors, but that makes proper ventilation, deep cleaning and maintenance even more important. The bathroom sink in our room was frankly shocking. The finish was peeling and deteriorating extensively. This isn’t a minor cosmetic issue; it’s something management should have identified and replaced long before a guest was assigned that room. The outdoor area was equally disappointing. The swimming pool was drained and visibly neglected. If a pool is going to be out of service, cover it or screen it from guests. Leaving an empty, dirty pool in the center of the property communicates an unfortunate “we don’t care” impression. Seeing the condition of the pool area also made us unwilling to use the hot tub because we simply didn’t have confidence in the property’s overall maintenance standards. Unfortunately, the hospitality didn’t compensate for the physical condition. Our welcome did not have the warmth we expected from an “inn.” One of the first things communicated to us was essentially that we would not receive room service without 24 hours’ notice. The tone felt less like welcoming guests and more like establishing how little assistance we should expect during our stay. There was one important positive: the bed was comfortable. Had it not been, we likely would have left and found somewhere else to stay. Management, please take a serious walk through this property as though you were a paying guest seeing it for the first time. Walk barefoot across the carpets. Look closely at the sinks and fixtures. Smell the rooms when you first open the door. Look at the empty pool from a guest’s perspective. Then ask whether this is truly the experience your photos, reviews, pricing and reputation lead guests to expect. FogCatcher has a wonderful coastal location and could be a charming property. That’s actually what makes our experience so disappointing. These aren’t extravagant requests for luxury—they are the fundamentals: cleanliness, maintenance, pride of ownership and genuine hospitality. Three rooms gave us three opportunities to see something different. Unfortunately, they confirmed the same problem. FogCatcher doesn’t need better marketing. It needs management to get serious about the guest experience and the physical condition of the property.
Amazing location and very friendly staff. Rooms were clean and well-appointed. Beautiful sunsets right across the street with a boardwalk for an evening stroll. Close drive to town
I loved the location and the room but I do not understand how a $200 room became $332 and why did they charge me twice? I could not get through to them by telephone.
No smoking section.
Just in front of a stunning beach. The fireplace in the room.
The staff at the reception was very "detached"
Just a great place to stay with a good location.
location was fantastic!
room was very musty and didn't feel very clean
We chose the FogCatcher Inn because it had a strong reputation and came highly recommended to us. Unfortunately, our experience was very different from what we expected. Disappointing Stay — Poorly Maintained Property From the moment we arrived, the front-desk host was unwelcoming, which made a poor first impression. The room was even more disappointing. It had a strong, unpleasant odor, the carpets were dirty and stained, and the bed was extremely creaky. The mattress was so worn that you actually sank down into a noticeable hole when sitting on it. The chairs were also beat up and provided virtually no support. The back window had no screen at all, and the entire room felt old, musty, and poorly maintained. There were simply too many signs of deferred maintenance to overlook. The pool was also unusable because there was no water in it. Overall, this felt much more like a tired, poorly maintained motel than the property we expected based on its reputation. Cleanliness, comfort, maintenance, and basic amenities fell well short of what we would expect from a property at this price point. We would not stay here again, and based on our experience, I would recommend that travelers look carefully at the most recent reviews and confirm the current condition of the property before booking.
We were disappointed pool was not working! Front desk could have been friendlier when we checked in. Nobody at desk and when came in no greeting. Loved the room and beds. Very clean.
Close to the beach. The beds are so comfortable
Carpet is dirty and shower is clogged. Notified staff upon check out
Peaceful, quiet .. wonderful location on the Moonstone Beach Boardwalk! The staff was wonderful.
Not crazy about carpet in the room.
We really enjoyed our one night stay at the Fog catcher Inn in Cambria California. The room was very quiet, peaceful decorated so nicely and very clean. We could hear the ocean if we wanted to across the street and all we had to do was a few steps across to get to the beach. Also, a big Advantage is that a five minute walk takes you to our favorite seafood place.
Location, directly across the street from tge beach.
The interior was very warn, dirty desk chair, old mattresses, needed update. Our room was very back cottage with a highway behind us, I feel when I book with a 3rd party I get the worse room.
The room needs some upgrades. The carpet was stained, seemed dirty and squares were lifting. The cushions on the chairs were flat. The body wash in the shower was empty after 1 day. The bottom sheet had a tear in it. The window shade was lopsided and difficult to open evenly.
The bed gave me an back ache. We were there 3 nights, with no room service. Even if they didn’t change sheets, bedding, it would be nice to check amenities (soap, coffee, towels) without having to ask or go to the office to get ourself.
We had a wonderful stay. The beachfront location is fantastic and the views are amazing. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and always helpful throughout our visit. Our room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained. There is also a great restaurant within easy walking distance, which was very convenient. We would happily stay here again.
The only minor disappointment was that the pool was not operational during our stay and appeared to be undergoing refurbishment.
Right across the street from a nice beach. Room was great, and lots of restaurant choices are nearby. No breakfast, just coffee, so I advise you to stop at a grocery store on the way and pick up items for breakfast, lunch, beverages, and snacks. Fridge and microwave and coffee maker in the room. Helpful friendly staff.
Room 904 was terrible. The rugs were stained and it smelled musty. When I asked the lobby manager to move to a different room she was rude and not helpful at all. I expected better. We won’t be coming back.
Breezy clean peaceful seaside room with ocean wave sound at night, and even though I had a glitch with third party booking, Mgr David and Ramon and handled it on the spot. They and Erik and front desk team were kind and cared
the hotel overall is a great location but needs a good powerwash as it had not been cleaned on the exterior in years. for a beatutiful white wood hotel, it would look stunning on the coast. The room had lots of cobwebs and the blinds in one room did not work. I had to fix on my own. Trash cans were filthy and could use a wipedown. Front desk could use some hospitality training. Overall, worht the stay because of the location on the water and less than a mile from downtown.
Being close to the ocean. It was peaceful. Did not hear much noise from neighboring guests. The bed was very comfortable.
I could not get the fireplace in my room to work. It would be helpful to have instructions to turn it on. While it was nice to have complimentary coffee in the room it would have been equally nice to have complimentary bottle water to make the coffee. There was only one plug that worked in the bathroom and no electric outlet in the closet area for the ironing board.
Don’t recommend
Location Staff Free parking
Not clean, sorry to say but the furniture was gross, dirty and the room in general. I get that the property might be old but it can still be clean. Pool was not working, not able to use it.
No internet, No wiFi. you should have told me about that, cause I came to work and because of that I had to leave
Tout
Rien
Worst place. Pool broken, front desk rude. Ask for tea bag person said they rudely they’ll put out later and goto our your sister property down the street and get one and they were not even busy, no outside fire place broke . Whole experience the worst. Very rude front desk.
Well below my expectations for this price point! The ocean view I was expecting was through dirty windows, rusty screens and janky cheap window coverings that were junk. No patio for a sunset view like some of the other offerings just down the street. The shower curtain rod was broken, the baseboards were dirty, the microwave had food in it and the countertop needed to be repainted since it wasn't even Formica and the bed needs a new mattress. The concrete garden seating was broken and exposed rusty rebar. The staff never even asked how the room was. It was clear the room was tired and the property has not been updated or maintained very well and housekeeping does the bare minimum. I would not stay here again until the room price is below $100 a night and my fiance will not stay here again, ever…
Location- right across the street from the beach; hot tub, and fire pit; fireplace in the room;
Swimming pool wasn’t available as it was being worked on; troubles with the Wi-Fi connection;
This is a family, dog-friendly, small, comfortable room for a restful stop on the road. It's easy to find with a good location near the coastal walking path.
Great location. Cute and clean hotel. Our only problem was that the mattress and pillows were old and lumpy so we didn't get good sleep. Also, there was no air circulation because there was no AC or fans.
Stayed in a deluxe king oceanfront room. SUPPOSED to be one of their best rooms. Was terrible. I understand it's rated as three-star, so didn't expect a lot, but this was HORRIBLE. Filthy, worn-out furniture, lumpy old back-killer mattress but mostly FILTHY. The floor had NOT been cleaned... at all. Sand all over & visible bits and pieces of debris from prior guests visible on floors and more along edges and in corners, particularly the bathroom. NOT three-star. We had nice stays there years ago, this was dramatically different in the worst way.
The room was great.
Ice machine was to far.
Smuk lokation lige ved vandet og promenaden. God seng.
Ingen vand i poolen. De afbillede stole og bål var ikke at se. Kedelige værelser, lidt outdated. Lang gåtur til hovedgaden.
Location was excellent, quiet and comfortable.
Didn’t clean our room the whole 5 days so we had to ask for more TP and had to request more coffee daily.
I have visited Cambria countless times and usually stay elsewhere, which I recommend. I had not stayed here in years, but everything was booked for the 4th so I had to stay here. It has gone way downhill. Front desk smells like weed. In fact the whole place does. Pool is empty with trash at the bottom. No breakfast anymore, just really bad coffee and hot water that is discolored and has coffee grounds floating in it. Pillows are very lumpy and uncomfortable. My friend arrived to her room the day before me and said “bring pillows. It’s bad” and she was right. It’s a very bare bones kind of experience. FYI They go on a break and close the front desk right at check in time, so a line forms outside. You have to check in later so you get even less for your money.
We had a wonderful stay. Right across the street from the beach walking trails and marine life!
Just stayed here over 4th of July weekend. The property has a great location, directly across from Moonstone Beach and the ocean. Unfortunately, the amenities and service are lacking. Wi-fi is slow. Lodge says they have coffee and tea in the lobby daily from 7:30AM to 11AM, but when I went at 7:36AM the attendant said they were out. Also, our key cards were mysteriously deactivated after 11 AM, and I had to return to the office and have both key cards reactivated. There are many options for lodging near the beach, but I won't be back to this one.
The room is clean. The bed was very comfortable. The location is perfect.
There were not enough cups or creamers in our room and that happened in previous years and going to the office sometimes they say they’re out of the liquid creamer
Location and room size
There was a sewer smell coming out of the sink
Lokasyon Harika. Tesis temiz Oda gayet büyük
Oda büyüklüğü ve temizliği Otopark imkanı
Location and design
Wish there was a lounge or lobby to sit in.
How it was way after Midnight when I checked in and hee assisted me very well
You couldn’t beat the location!!!
Nothing
The location is fantastic! Directly across the street from a wonderful boardwalk trail and steps down to the beach. We also loved the fireplace in the room, and the complimentary coffee was appreciated.
When we arrived, we were told the pool was not functioning but the hot tub was. When we visited the hot tub, it was taped off and the water was lukewarm, so it was not functioning either. The ground floor window is our room had been left unlocked. It was clear that this facility is old, but well maintained. It would have been nice if outdoor fireplaces were on as we noticed at adjacent properties.
nice hotel very close to ocean. partial ocean views. pool was broken but they do have small jacuzzi. across the street is a paved path for beach walks.
This was an amazing stay in this little gem! Loved the location. Easy beach access. The stones on the beach were beautiful and we were able to hear the waves crashing at night with our window open. Room was the perfect size for our family of 4. We didn’t expect the weather to be in the 60’s, but a light pullover was perfect. We would definitely visit Cambria again. ~ Much Love from Texas
The location of this hotel was very nice and beautiful.
Beware WIFI is not very fast and at night it will be slow and videos will buffer. Kinda sucks when me and my bf were trying to have a late night movie night.
Location and friendly staff!
The only unfortunate thing, our fireplace didn’t work. Maybe because of the season, but it didn’t turn on.
Beach front hotel. Wasn’t even expecting it, but my room had an ocean view!
No breakfast amenities, which normally isn’t an issue, but there is no breakfast options at all on that side of town due to everything opening late.
Very clean and friendly environment.
The location is to die for, right on Moonstone Beach! The room was spacious, the hot tub was very nice. There were two gas fire pits.
There is no AC in the room and there is no bathroom fan! I had to keep all of the windows open the entire time for air flow which then made it so I heard every noise outside all night and the lamp light came in at night. Also the shower did not drain great and it was missing one shower curtain hanging piece so the shower curtain did not cover the whole shower.
Room and location were wonderful.
We have been coming to Fogcatcher since it was first opened. Disappointed they do not have breakfast room open anymore. That did add value to room rate.
Perfect location for beachwalk on boardwalk to dinner and breakfast
Always love staying at the FogCatcher, we've stayed multiple times and look forward to the next time!
The location is great.
It was minor. The microwave had an awful smell. One of the mattresses was lumpy on one side it made it difficult to have a good night sleep.
Stayed one night on a Thursday. My room was $360 and in my opinion overpriced for what I got. I had an ocean front suite. I came in last minute and that was the least expensive available for a walk in around 7:30pm. The furniture is all over the place, the eating area seats and table are comply different than the desk area which is completely different from the coffee table. I imagine someone going in and replacing the worst of it but they should have not done a half job. Why not do a total redo instead of partial? With the prices they are charging it should be doable. The bathroom vanity area was really nice, I could tell that was pretty new. The room is filthy though, it needs a deep clean. Like very badly. It was just my husband and I. I would never stay here with a baby or small child with the filth and paint chips. This hotel could be very nice if they would clean, repaint, and replace the gross furniture.
