The restaurant meals were good quality and served in a timely manner by friendly staff.

It’s the perfect balance of an historical building, sensitively designed against with a fresh, modern feel. Clean, smells like perfume is pumped through the air con. Easy to navigate and I appreciate the beautiful plants dotted about the place and not artificial crap ones!!

The car park barrier! It’s a nightmare!

My room was claustrophobic. The window was. Glazed over so I could not see out . The building I was in was old & had some decoration issues . No one offered to help with my luggage despite me having to go up & down stairs

I was surprised parking wasn’t free for hotel guests. Bed was a bit hard so maybe a mattress topper but that was just our preference .

Friendly and helpful staff. Found us an an adaptor to borrow. Brought our breakfast very quickly when I told them we were in a hurry. Bed was very comfortable. Room was clean.

Everything apart from checking out ! All we were trying to do is pay for parking ! Which we didn’t even have to as other people were saying you get a code on the receipt so just leave ! However we tried to pay ! They said no cash accepted then they couldn’t work out how to take payment so after a while I had ti go back in and tell my partner we havve been waiting 20 mins to try and pay !! So then they said just give us cash then !! What they while have said after 20 mins is ah don’t worry about our system is at fault

The room was very tired - particularly the bathroom was substandard - and the beds rock hard so not the best night’s sleep. I was surprised breakfast was not included at £270 a night for a twin.

Das Hotel ist gut zu erreichen und man kann von dort aus zu Fuß die Stadt erkunden. Parkplätze sind vor Ort verfügbar, kosten bei Buchung über Booking allerdings 15£ extra.

Die Dame beim Check-in war sehr hochnäsig und unser Zimmer war zwar sauber aber alles sehr in die Jahre gekommen. Die Dusche (Wand an der Badewanne) war komplett undicht und da das Zimmer so schief war, lief das Wasser beim Duschen einfach durch das ganze Bad. Das Bett war sehr unbequem.

Nothing we didn't like, just our room and bathroom were a bit small (king size bed much preferred). Also, our room window looked out onto a courtyard and there was a private function on. We were not warned at all this was the case therefore had to close the curtains for the rest of the day

Shower was covered in black mould and seal hanging off. Room was ill-prepared. Net curtains hanging off the rail and a broken toilet roll holder. They muddled the rooms up which I had booked, giving the single person a massive king size bed and the couple , a tiny double. The couple's room was tiny with bathroom no bigger than a cupboard. Breakfasts were disappointing with very little freshly cooked food. I had pre-ordered almond milk for myself but they did not provide it. There was a very large and loud tour group staying which had the best rooms and monopolised the lounge, restaurant and bar at night. They charged £10 a day for parking as a guest of the hotel! Old fashioned room key system. Public areas were shabby. Leaves not swept up on inside corridor carpets.

Being our 1st time to the UK, we were looking for somewhere English to stay. The room was perfect, great meals and very friendly and helpful staff as well as being close walking distance into York. Thank you Team Middleton for making our stay great.

A very special hotel, right in the historic heart of York. The rooms are replete with personality and comfort, old world style and modern convenience. We loved having the space to spread out and unpack. The bar served great coffee and alcoholic beverages, and the staff were super friendly. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Our room’s decor and fittings were tired. It needed a refurb! TV didn’t work but a member of staff fixed it. Why wasn’t it checked before we arrived!

We chose a cosy room which it was, not much space to move around in the room and it was difficult to get to the window to let some air in as it was behind the open clothes rail. The fixtures fittings and facilities in the room were excellent but would choose a larger room next time.

So stellt man sich ein englisches Landhaus vor! Liebevoll, gemütlich und im Grünen- dennoch ist die Lage zum Zentrum perfekt. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und das Frühstück sehr gut, die Zimmer sind klein, aber wunderschön mit toller Ausstattung

The bed was comfortable and the room was nice and large. Very scenic. I wish I would have had more time to explore the restaurant and other facilities.

The car park was expensive and very little spaces left to park my car. I ended up in a small space and my car stuck out quite a way.

It was clean and the beds were comfortable. It was walking distance to the main attractions, and the staff was very friendly.

It does not have an elevator, so it’s difficult to carry the luggage up the stairs. The bathroom does not have a lot of shelving area to put your toiletries.

The room was satisfactory and the walk-in shower appreciated. Breakfast was fresh but the bacon a little too salty so maybe streaky bacon would be a better option.

The location was a little misleading as we thought it was in the city centre. This made walking a challenge for one adult in the party due to mobility issues.

This is one of the best hotels we've stayed in. We were upgraded to a suite and it was stunning. Lovely, comfortable bed, beautiful linen. Bathroom was great. Reception staff were very helpful.

In a really convenient part of York, away from city centre but within easy walking distance. The main building is beautiful from the outside with a shared garden to enjoy.

Our ‘cosy double’ room was basic and in the ‘other’ part of the hotel. On the surface, it was clean but a closer look showed otherwise. A sewage odour greeted us. A previous guest’s tea bags were left on the tea tray. The extractor fan in the bathroom needed a clean. There was mould in the shower tray and a hand print in the wall. Staff were informative on check-in. When checking out, we interrupted the writing of an email and had to wait our turn.

The whole look and feel of the hotel was great. Also the city centre location was very handy. Staff were all friendly and helpful.

The cosy room (21) did feel a little too cosy at times.

Amazing location, easy to walk into town. Although the rooms are a little small, the beds were really comfy and luxurious. It was clean and very relaxing. Breakfasts were great and the gin tasting us highly recommended!

The staff and service they provided was excellent. We ate our evening meals and breakfast there and both meals were well presented and tasty. The location was ideal for easy access to York City.

We went there trusting the cleanliness ratings, but it was a total disaster. The bedspreads were stained, the toilets were filthy, and even the chair was stained.

Outstanding service from when we first checked in to when we checked out. A special mention to Elizabeth was very helpful, kind and really went above and beyond to make sure our stay was a memorable one. Coming from a hospitality background - we would pilfer her in a heatbeat! The tapas menu has variety and I highly recommend the gochujang cauliflower and chickpea spinach dish! Again - service in the restaurant was professional and efficient.

Nothing other than the step on the bridge was not highlighted and twice i missed it. Left early so never got to report it. Also parking charge that was not mentioned or i missed it on the literature

check in was a bit of a joke there must have ben 6 people waiting for rooms from around 1pm (granted check in states 3pm) but in all my time of booking hotel rooms I have never known so many rooms not ready beforehand but bizarrely they all came available at 3pm in fact we didn't get our room until 3.10 , I had offered to pay for the early check in when we arrived but was told non available come back in 30 mins we did this for nearly 2 hours to no avail , not very accommodating at all , I'm sure you could have sorted a room if you had tried !

Great location, only a short walk from the city centre. Really considerate staff. Couldn't be more pleased.

I was very annoyed that we were charged for parking we were not told that parking was an extra charge of £15 a day and it was just added to the room charged. Most hotels do not charge for this especially when parking is actually on the complex itself and due to the trees been directly over our vehicle we has to go get out car washed immediately after our stay. The smoking area was covered in leaves and the ash trays were not emptied the entire time we were there 3 days.

We had an excellent stay, can highly recommend this hotel and will definitely be back

The location close to centre yet not on a busy road. The quaintness and history of the property Responsive courteous staff , very professional and helpful.

The bed was huge and really comfortable with excellent pillows. There was a small fridge with a jug of fresh milk for tea and coffee. Overall very pleasant ambience.

As we had booked through Booking. Com we had to pay £15 for car parking. Breakfast looked good but we weren’t prepared pay £17.50 pp

Douche gaf alleen koud water, later bleek dat er een knopje aan de buitenkant zat doe net de andere kant opgezet moest worden dan het licht in de badkamer. Heel onlogisch en kwamen ee te laat achter. Bij de receptie aangegeven, daar reageerden ze dat ze diw klacht wel vaker hoorden. Dan vraag ik me af waarom niet een instructie achterlaten voor de gasten lijkt me een kleine moeite en voorkomt een hoop irritatie.

Doors in hallway slam other guests were noisy until the early hours. Bathroom floor edging needs replaced as dirty. Bathroom extractor only works if light are on.
