Excellent location, within easy walking distance of York’s main attractions. Very convenient for a short stay and exploring the city on foot.

The hotel feels somewhat dated and the room was fairly basic for the Hilton brand. It could benefit from some refurbishment and modernization.

Excellent breakfast, good choice of food to suit everyone's needs. Staff were very efficient and very friendly

I have stayed in this hotel on numerous occasions and always left a positive. Unfortunately not this time. I had mistakenly booked an accessible room. Not a problem. I asked if we could change that and was told no the hotel was full. This was at 10am. I later said to another member of staff you must be soo busy, they said yes but not full???. Well what was the problem was the constant buzzing and humming in the room. At around 3-4 early morning the company I was with could put up with it no longer and went down to reception and was at first offered ear plugs then a room change which was taken. I remained simply because I had beers on the night. At checkout I asked for some form of cost reduction and was virtually ignored. Terrible really considering I am a member and have stayed so many times . Even mentioned just taking breakfast off but answer was no. It did spoil the breakaway. This room I have noted is in other negative reviews . Why we could not change rooms is inexcusable and more I felt down to stubborn staff. Was very disappointed and very tired.

Didn't get to check in till nearly 5pm staff was very rude iv stayed at many many hiltons im a hilton honours member i would never stay here again. There's so many nicer places its not up to hilton standards. And for the lift well thats all ill say.

Cleanliness & position

The location and proximity to the main shops and sights was amazing.

We checked in and were given the furthest room away from the elevators. Also, despite the booking page claiming that there is air-conditioning, this is actually only available in certain rooms. The staff member was very rude about this and was extremely unhelpful (their only suggestion was to open the windows which have no screens so let's lots of bugs in the room or add an extra tiny fan).

Hotel was easy to find, and parking was by valet, which was really good. Car parked outside for us on departure. There was a carpark across the road if none available at the hotel. Nice welcome from the Reception Team upon arrival, room was ready early, which was a bonus. Room was good size and lovely and clean. Just a short walk outside and you are in the main town with shops and restaurants. We ate dinner and breakfast at the hotel, both very good, will maybe next time have evening meal out in town, but keep breakfast, so much choice and freshly cooked.

Just a personal preference, I still like a book in the room that tells you what time things like dinner, breakfast are, where buses run from, what's on locally.

We couldn’t stay at the hotel.

We couldn’t stay at the hotel. When we arrived, even after confirming the reservation directly with Hilton and having the Booking reservation confirmed, the hotel clerk said that there was no room available for us. After claiming it, they only sent us to another hotel with lower specifications. Even after offering us a discount of 50% for the stay and after leaving the other hotel the day after, they did not wanted to present the invoice and we received full charge for the stay at full price, at the Hilton rate nor the Hampton we used. We used the hotel for one night and they charged two nights. They said that this was a Booking mistake, not Hilton. Our plan was severely affected and all our plans were a disaster. I need the refund and an explanation of this issue.

Very comfortable room with refillable toiletry bottles. The location is great for visiting main attractions and walking distance from the station. Breakfast was buffet style, all fresh hot food. I also had a dinner one night which was first class. Very friendly staff too.

My only suggestion is not to exchange bath towels that are left hanging up…..a bit more for the environment…. but glad to see the refillable toiletry bottles.

Perfect location. Friendly staff, in particular Christine who worked in the bar was amazing. So helpful, knowledgeable about the area and really went that extra mile with her kindness. What a lovely lady!

This hotel is perfectly located for wandering around York town centre, including The Shambles. Our room overlooked the York Tower, which is exactly what I hoped for when booking! The breakfast was very tasty.

The parking arrangements were less than ideal: what sort of hotel doesn't have enough parking for all of its guests?! Fortunately, we were able to park over the road at a reasonable rate.

Clean, modern and great location

The location was good and close to the main attractions in York.

booked through Booking.com and specifically reserved a room with a castle view, but we did not receive the room or view we had booked. The hotel also has no air conditioning, and the room was extremely hot and uncomfortable. The staff were not helpful, and when we tried to speak to them, they were often unresponsive and their attitude was not welcoming. Overall, I was very disappointed with the way we were treated.

Outdated , soulless , business hotel with limited parking option

The breakfast and variety of food in the restaurant to choose from was fabulous and highly recommended. The hotel was very clean on the stairs and surrounding areas and the bedroom were of standard clean

the mattress on the bed was very hard and uncomfortable and the pillows went flat when your head rested on them. Room was very warm but did have air conditioning but was very loud. Lots of noise from outside people entering in and out of hotel and noise from restaurant below early in the morning

Everything you would expect from a top-tier hotel! The room was extremely comfortable, with a gorgeous view and a fantastic location. We want to give a special thank you to the staff. We arrived in the morning completely exhausted because our flight had been rescheduled and we had to travel overnight without sleep. The receptionist went above and beyond to get us a room well before the official check-in time so we could rest before exploring the city. That gesture meant the world to us! It was the ideal place in terms of comfort and location for the kind of stay we needed, situated in a truly beautiful spot. We are so happy we stayed here—everything was great!

room was not very clean- carpets had dirt and loose dust balls etc. Our room was not cleaned on day 2 even though we hung a request on door. We were charged $35 for parking for one night when $30 had been quoted

Room was very clean, beds very comfortable. Plenty of sockets and charging points for phone, laptop etc. Staff were very friendly, especially Shirley AKA the egg lady and Lewis who was on the breakfast team. Twice had an evening meal and again it was delicious and served by a lovely lady who highly recommended the raspberry and gin cheesecake.

Felt hotel lacked some comfy chairs just to sit and have a coffee and relax a bit. A slight negative was that cash wasn’t accepted and this threw my husband a bit as he has Altzheimers and is not comfortable using cards if he wanted a relaxing drink in the afternoon. No biggy though

The hotel was a fantastic location. We got a taxi from the train station which was around £7 for 4 of us with luggage. The room was clean and we paid for breakfast the day before which was £15pp and a great choice.

Unfortunately the room was very warm no air con just a fan and two window only opened slightly.

Fantastic location and friendly staff

If I was picky, I would say the 4pm check-in was a pain. Although you could drop your vehicle off and collect luggage later, we had a long drive to York and would’ve like to relax. We would’ve paid extra for early check-in which wasn’t an option. But the rest was fantastic and highly recommend this hotel.

Bed was quite comfortable and the biscuits were nice. Olga in the bar was lovely. Location of the hotel is brilliant.

Parking is extremely expensive, so be warned. Even in the valet still is extremely expensive. Should have a discount with the castle car park across the road. Staff on reception quite cold. Shower quite poor and lighting in room not great. Didn't have breakfast. Drinks the bar also quite expensive.

I booked this room for my daughters (one of whom is an adult). Never had an issue with this before. Daughters report being treated offhandedly by the receptionist. Receptionist requested my ID which obvious they didn't have, a first in my experience but Hilton policy I guess. Don't really have a problem with that but it did add to the feeling they were being looked down upon. A shame. Holiday Inn the night before no problem at all I must add they reported that all other staff were great.

This hotel is central to York making it a great base to explore the city from. The car park is underground and the staff will take your car away and return it at the end of your stay for about £30 which is fair given the cost of parking in the city anyway. The room was large and clean and the staff were all friendly. The best thing about our stay was the breakfast!! They had everything you could possibly wish for, pancake station, a lovely lady cooking your eggs just how you like them, backery quality croissants, fruit, the lot. Amazing. We will definitely be returning to York and will no doubt stay here again. Thanks to all the staff x

Totally random, but the sinks in the bathroom need a revamp. The tap is too far away from the actual sink meaning the water overflows backwards and down the sides of the sink

A very good stay and a great hotel overall. The location was definitely one of the biggest highlights — very convenient for getting around York and close to everything I needed. The hotel itself was comfortable, well maintained and had all the facilities I would expect from a Hilton. The staff were friendly and professional, and everything was smooth and well organised throughout my stay. Overall, it was a reliable and comfortable experience, just as you would expect from Hilton. I really enjoyed my stay and would happily consider staying here again, especially for the excellent location.

The response from the team was sometimes a little slower compared with other hotels I’ve stayed at, but nothing major. Overall, the service was expected from a Hilton :).

The Hotel was in the centre, so close to almost everything, the Castle, Shambles loads of great restaurants which was important as I am a wheelchair user Very friendly staff. Breakfast was superb, eggs made to order, fresh pancakes, everything you could want really. Bed very comfy, great pillows, quality tea and coffee facilities in the room. Would definitely recommen a stay here.

The staff were wonderful; the location is perfect for getting about York, the family room was spacious and comfortable including the amenities and addition of fans which was great for the warm evening; there was a fantastic range for breakfast both continental and hot food available, and alternative milks too which is great for me as I have soya. It was a great stay and I would definitely come back. Not only this there was a lovely touch for my birthday that they left in the room on arrival.

Parking! Yes you could have opted for parking at hotel but that was first come first served at £30 On booking.com it said we could also use car park opposite. The car park was v busy but not full, however the spaces were all really narrow with lots of vehicles parked over the line which made it impossible to get into a space. It was generally very tight to manouver with more than one car coming down the isle. We finally managed to get and paid via our phone. Still received two parking tickets the next day even though we had paid full amount, which ended up being £33 for car park v expensive. We are of course challenging the £100 fine! Will not return to this hotel

The location was perfect, the hotel was spotless, staff were super friendly and helpful- couldn’t ask for better. Food was excellent and plenty of it!

I struggle to find something I didn’t feel was excellent. If I was pushed and had to find a weakness ( not an issue by any means) the evening menu was a little limited, however the food was excellent and I think if there was an extensive menu it would be more difficult to deliver such good meals. So not a downside really. Can’t recommend highly enough.

It was a little noisy at times .... gangs of teens being herded way by the police! Room layout ... cupboard above tea/coffee station too low ... kept knocking our heads.
