I think the evening meal was expensive for what we had to eat prior to visiting a show at the Barbican and the room was pricy but very comfortable.

At the breakfast the milk ran out for cereal the. Water ran out for hot drinks

Very nice hotel, very close to the city centre. The rooms were spacious and clean with really big and comfy beds. It was quiet. There was even a coffee machine in the room.

The breakfast was good, however, I’d like more vegetables and cheese.

The lady staff at the front desk was so helpful with the sights and restaurants around York for first time visitors.

Rooms and corridors are quite dated. The room door doesn't close properly. The price is really high for what you get.

Location was perfect for The Barbican. Good selection for breakfast. Room was big and clean. Shower temperature was perfect and easy to use.

Front desk was often abandoned and had to wait several minutes for someone to appear. Coffee/Tea machine at breakfast wasn't very good and was slow. Lots of guests were complaining about this. Cost of room was expensive for a Monday.

At breakfast there was no choice of bread. Whilst on the first morning I managed to find the crust of a sliced brown bread (and it was the last piece of brown bread available at 8am), on the second morning only sliced white was to be had, and we had come down at 7.30am. Both breads were of a very cheap basic type which I do not buy myself. Also, on the second morning, some of the warm dishes were barely lukewarm.

La recepcionista de la maniana fue super amable conmigo y me ayudo a resolver un tema con el siguiente hotel que tenia previsto en mi viaje, en Londres. ! 😍 Es un hotel con un buen standard basico tipo US. Habitacion grande, buen banio, lifts, y desayunador bueno. Si bien en el mapa no parece tan centrico, si lo es porque todo es cerca en York, caminando. El lobby es especialmente lindo y amplio! Tienen la pantalla para pedir un Uber si queres para irte con las valijas a la estacion de 👏

No habia un plug para celulares samsung. Tuve que comprarme un adaptador.

Great location 5 mins walk from the Shambles, just over the river. We got a room upgrade so had a nice big room with a sofa. Reception was very friendly and helpful. The beds were comfortable and it was nice and quiet.

Although the hotel was a good budget hotel, it definitely didn't feel like a 4 star hotel, so it felt overpriced. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel because again we thought £18 was too much. Otherwise all OK.

Location was excellent. Breakfast was superb. Restaurant staff were friendly and efficient.

We reported a blocked sink and a room phone that didn’t work. The sink was sorted in 15 mins. Three days later the phone was still out of action. Our room wasn’t refreshed for two days.. we had to contact reception near the end of the day to have this attended to.

Room wasn't clean on arrival. Dirty tea spoon, bin not empty with sanitary towel product left from previous occupant. Later discovered Double bed not properly made, stain on bedding, and no sheet on the other bed. Beds were not as comfortable as other Holiday inn beds. Breakfast over priced for the standard - learned from our mistake and went to local places after 1st morning.

The rooms were not cleaned properly. The floor was dirty since day 1, clearly no vacuuming took place.

On arrival the receptionist demanded photo ID. In none of the booking confirmation email was this advised. If we had not had the photo ID I don't think they would have let us stay. I told the receptionist we had no information about this in our booking and she just said "We are not Booking.com" . She was a rude with a don't care attitude.

Delay to room access by over 1 hour due to late housekeeping impacting on our evening plans. Many guests impacted and all having to wait with 20 minute delay which turned to over 1 hour wait

One of the most hostile and unwelcoming check-in experiences I’ve ever had. Appallingly unwelcoming, hostile, rude, unhelpful and obstructive. Room wasn’t clean. Stained bedding, hairs on the bathroom floor, hairs on towels. Whole place looks tired and shabby in corridors and bathroom.

Booking ref 5923610 We wish to complain about our recent stay at the Holiday Inn York city centre On the 13th August 2026 we ordered meals for 3 people in the restaurant After waiting nearly an hour the meals arrived.Two of the meals were almost inedible cold and undercooked. We did make a complaint at the time to the receptionist Adriana and was told she would talk to the people concerned and get back to us.At checkout the next morning 14th August 2026 I did remind her and again was told that we would be contacted . It is now 28th August and we still haven’t had the courtesy of a response. We are totally disappointed with the way we have been treated and would appreciate a reply from yourselves Thank you.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn by IHG 23rd to the 25th Aug this year. The location; just down from Coppergate & opposite the Weatherspoon Pub (The Postern Gate), was ideal for the centre of York. We arrived early (11.00) expecting just to leave our baggage & then head into the city, the receptionist was excellent; she managed to arrange a room early, so we could freshen up & get settled in the room before heading into the city. The room was functional & clean, but on the second day, our bed was not made or the towels changed, not really an issue. We stayed on a bed, breakfast & dinner booking; the value for money far outweighed other hotels in the area, which were normally only bed & breakfast. The breakfast along with the evening meal food was excellent, the only issue with the evening meal, was it was served in the reception area (not ideal) & we had the wait at least 1 hour 30 for the food to be served. The hotel staff were very friendly & helpful. Would highly recommend staying at the hotel.

Vi hade halvpension. Usel middagsmat som vi klagade på och tanken var att man skulle äta middagen i den väldigt livliga receptionen där det stod några bord. Slitet och unken luft på våningsplanen och trapphuset. En hiss där det ofta blev väntetid. Stora bussällskap som kom under våra dagar och mycket barnfamiljer. Inget kylskåp. Inte stort utbud av frukost och endast en gammal kaffemaskin som funkade.

The hotel was spotlessly clean. Staff were helpful and friendly. Our check in took a little longer which wasn't at all an issue. However the receptionist gave us a voucher for a complimentary drink. The breakfast was good value, plenty of choice. The hotel is in a convenient location tonwalk in to the city. I would happily stay again.

Good location. Responsive staff, there was a problem with the safe in the room, they solved it very quickly, they also brought additional pillows at our request.

Very small and cramped room, we had an extra bed for a child, and this bed rested against the adult bed so that it was simply impossible to approach and lie down. Very high audibility from neighbouring rooms, not just screams or loud sounds, but ordinary conversation. One of the towels was thoroughly stained with foundation upon arrival, as if they had put a dirty, previously used towel

The location was good, and some staff were helpful and responsive when issues were raised. Unfortunately, we experienced a number of problems throughout our stay, which significantly affected our overall experience.

Our stay was extremely disappointing and well below the standard we expect from Holiday Inn, particularly as IHG members who have stayed at numerous Holiday Inns across the country. Despite the website advertising 24-hour room service, this was unavailable and the kitchen closed early. Arriving late with two disabled adults and a child, we were left having to consider walking into the dark to find food. Some staff were extremely helpful and arranged a light menu, which we appreciated, but it was expensive and offered nothing suitable for our child or anyone with food sensitivities. The room was poorly cleaned, with long black hairs on the bathroom floor and towels. The carpet was so dirty we had to keep our shoes on. Cleaning was delayed until late afternoon on the first day, and glasses, mugs, tea, coffee and other supplies were not consistently replenished. There were also serious maintenance and safety concerns. The heavy, jamming door raised concerns about emergency exit. The hairdryer broke, the TV stopped working, and the kettle leaked across the unit and onto our paperwork, creating both a burn and potentially serious electrocution risk. Breakfast regularly ran out of food, with long waits for replenishment. The single, very small lift was also particularly challenging for disabled guests, especially when other guests were checking out with suitcases. We appreciate the staff who genuinely tried to help, but overall this was one of our most disappointing Holiday Inn experiences. The cleanliness, service, food, maintenance and accessibility fell well below the standards we expect from Holiday Inn and IHG. Sadly, we would not stay here again.

The location is excellent in relation to the centre of town. The staff were polite and accommodating at reception, the bar and at breakfast.

Quite expensive but it is so close to the city centre I can appreciate why. The breakfast dishes were not replenished very quickly and the coffee machine needs some attention.

Breakfast okay. Room nice good bed size and wardrobe space. Room was cleaned the first day but on the Sunday we were out all day from about 10.00 am until 4.30 pm and the room hadn’t been cleaned. They came about ( pm but we were back in the room having a bit of a rest before getting ready to go out so didn’t want to leave the room again. Would’ve been nice if could have been cleaned when we were out.

At breakfast every day I had to ask for mugs/teaspoons/bread/Tbags, some hot food/ cereal bowls. Someone should be checking this all the time snd topping up. One day there was still an hour to go at breakfast and I was told there were no spoons. It was quite frustrating. Also only one lift for 5 floors of rooms which only holds 8 people. One night a coach party came in and we struggled to get to the main door when we came out of the lift as there were do many people trying to get to their rooms.

The breakfast. We looked in the restaurant before deciding to dine. The choice was minimal and dried up we went somewhere else on both mornings.

Bad mattress, every time you turned you could hear the springs clonk. Receptionist on checkout said we had only paid a £20 deposit (we had paid fully on check-in). We explained it and showed him the bank payment- he just proceeded to tap on his computer - never said ‘thank you or sorry’ until we had to say ‘is it ok? Can we go now? Of course everyone can make a mistake- but just be a little friendly and courteous please.
