It’s absolutely beautiful and love that it has an excellent restaurant attached. Food was above and beyond. Love the history of the building and the employees were very helpful . They brought us ice every evening. 😊
The beds were like rocks. Had to ask for toppers that helped somewhat. They put the hardest sleeper sofa I have ever sat on in the room for a couch . I have owned several couches that have fold out beds that are very comfortable. They need a different buyer for there bed and sofa purchasing. Also, the housekeeping did the beds and bathroom fine but never vacuumed and left the dirty dishes . We were there 6 days. I expected better for the high price I paid.
Kleines aber sehr gutes Frühstücksbuffet. Perfekte Lage für die Stadt.

Good location, nice facade and fancy foyer
We stayed in room 305, it was dark and grey with dirty old carpet, hard bed, lumpy pillows and we could hear every noise outside the door. The corridor outside led to the back of the kitchen, every time staff came and went the creaky door woke us up. Hardly the kind of stay we expected for 600 pound per night
The location is excellent.
The room entrance needed better cleaning and maintenance. Smells bad and have a big stain, inside the windows didn’t close properly.
Good location, clean, friendly staff.
Overpriced, small, poor breakfast, additional food choices for an additional price.

Almost everything was exceptional.
The elevators were very small and slow.
Great location. Superb room. Great service. And the cinema was a bonus.

Parties until midnight heard in room, both nights (even Sunday night)
The staff were all super friendly and helpful. The location is excellent. Loved the scotsman stairs and elevator to floor 0. The room was large and bed very comfortable. Especially loved the shower.
Well furnished and equipped room, with comfortable beds, desk, 2 chairs, and excellent en-suite. Some staff at check-in, and the charming concierge, were very helpful. Location is superb for train travellers - right next to Waverley Station. Good breakfast.
Some rooms, have very little view. Ours faced the surface of another building, with only very limited city views looking at an acute angle from the window. Some hotel staff seemed poorly trained. A member of the housekeeping staff, not in uniform, was knocking on the door at 10.59 to tell us to leave unless we had extended our check-out beyond 11. The day before we noticed a cupboard door left open in a 6th floor corridor, displaying a dis- ordered collection of cleaning materials. These kinds of small lapse in standards undermine the hotel's aspirational marketing, which then calls into question whether the room cost is over-expensive.
The location is incredibly convenient, particularly for easy access to Waverley Station, and the staff were accommodating and pleasant throughout my stay.
Very disappointing stay – not the standard I expected from The Scotsman! I have stayed at The Scotsman many times over the years and have always held the hotel in very high regard, with many particularly meaningful memories there with my mother. Sadly, this stay was a significant disappointment. The condition of the room was simply not what I would expect from a hotel of this reputation. The bed base appeared to be little more than a basic wooden slab and was extremely uncomfortable. There were also several obvious maintenance and presentation issues: chipped wood around the window, a large mark on the upper wall, substantial marks on the floor behind the TV, exposed wiring and an open utility cupboard revealing further marked and unfinished areas. There was also a noticeable unpleasant odour around the entrance to the room, which appeared to have been masked with strong artificial room fragrance rather than properly addressed. These aren’t tiny details that you only notice if you’re looking for problems — they were plainly visible and gave the room a tired and poorly maintained feel. Taken together, they are difficult to reconcile with the standard and price I would associate with The Scotsman. What made this particularly disappointing was that I was staying with my mother following a recent bereavement. We chose The Scotsman because of the memories and trust we have built with the hotel over many years, expecting a comfortable and special stay. Instead, I was left wondering whether this is now the standard being offered. The location remains incredibly convenient, particularly for easy access to Waverley Station, and the staff were accommodating and pleasant. Those positives are worth recognising. I have photographed the issues and raised the matter directly with the hotel. Given my previous experiences, I genuinely hope management takes the feedback seriously.
Location, staff, room, restaurant
Absolutely nothing not to like
Location is amazing just across Edinburgh train station (no transport required even with big luggage) staff are friendly and helpful especially Ayat from recaption and Alan from concierge. Breakfast is amazing with verity of options.

Friendly staff and the location was perfect.
The rooms were spacious and sparkly clean. The location is amazing.
Excellent location, beautiful hotel, loved the complimentary whisky in the room!
Would have liked if there was a spa/massage available!

Breakfast was good, front of house staff were very helpful
Getting a table in the bar was an issue twice: car parking is an obvious drawback - dropping the luggage in the street below was tricky:
Lovely old building, great location, very friendly and helpful staff
Lovely room, but the temperature control didn’t work very well.
beautiful spacious bedroom and lovely spacious bathroom. Beautiful interior and excellent location right across from the train station. The room was extremely quiet no exterior noises.

Room wasn’t cleaned two days of our stay
Location ++++ very helpful and friendly staff, room was lovely, historic property. The staff were exceptionally helpful-luggage assistance, printing papers for work, guidance for dining/train….:) Loved the ‘little touches’ like delicious drink in the lobby, Scotsman paper to the room, sparkling water available in gym and room.
Unique building, perfect location
The bed linen should have been changed every day unless specified otherwise
Berry friendly staff, we got a free upgrade
Everything about the Scotsman hotel is exceptional. The first class service, the comfortable bed, quality of food, location and architectural history is amazing. We love coming here.
Nothing.
The location was brilliant and just across the road from Waverley Station. It was comfortable and had very elegant communual areas. A building clearly steeped in history. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the breakfasts were delicious.
There was only 1 small lift which we and the staff had to share so there were long waits sometimes. I believe there was another one but that serviced different floors. Also the room toilet flush was a little temperamental.
Very Bad
On our final day, just as we were about to leave, only my wife was in the room, I couldn't get back in time till about 12:30. I don't know exactly what the hotel staff said to her, but it left her deeply upset and humiliated. Even now, so much time has passed, she still has a strong aversion to the memory of that trip of Edinburgh. I suspect it was because we didn't check out on time. The hotel could easily have contacted me—I wouldn't have minded paying extra—but instead, they simply forced my wife out. To this day, she refuses to tell me exactly what kind of verbal abuse she was subjected to.
Location was amazing Hotel is beautiful
I had sent some mails with a few requests and not one of them were honored despite being reassured that they would be
Beautiful architecture
Very central! Nice views
Excelent location in the heart of the city, with spacious rooms
The soundproofing of our room was very bad, you could hear all the noise on the hallway through the closed door, like it was happening in the room
The location and the design was absolutely wonderful

The location and the staff were very attentive
No issues at all
We loved everything about The Scotsman. From the moment we walked in the door we were treated like honored guests. Location fantastic, food amazing, our room was beautiful. All the staff were friendly and helpfu.l
My second stay at The Scotsman and it was not a good one. The room we were assigned was horrendous, it overlooked the Scotsman Steps and the wall behind it, had zero privacy and sound insulation. People going up and down the stairs can literally look into the room which meant that we had to keep our curtains closed all the time. The noise problem extended beyond street noise and we heard loud bangs, toilet flushes, door slamming and every other noise known to humans throughout our stay, day and night.
The staff, service, location and room were all great.
For the quality of the hotel and price per night, the breakfast wasn't up to the standard of all other aspects.
We had a lovely room here. Quite large, with a sitting area. Lovely new bathroom with plenty of space in the shower. It was easy to walk up to the Mile, and the castle . Also plenty of dining options close by. My only negative was we had to ask for the bottle of Prosecco which came with the room as we booked directly. We got said bottle the next day. We also missed out on the “Welcome” drink. I think the check in staff should have noted this and passed on the info so we could take advantage Stefano was lovely and really helpful Thank you Stefano.
What an excellent hotel. From the first introduction from staff, all the way through, everyone was friendly, helpful and professional. Rooms are spacious with good views of the city, if requested. Beds are comfortable, plenty of closet and storage space, excellent wi-fi. The location can't be better, steps away from the Royal Mile, right on the bridge to Old Town. Good restaurant on premise (The Main Cafe). Two quibbles, one minor, one not so minor. First, avoid the "breakfast plan". We tried it at their invite and it was.....not good. Cold eggs, bitter coffee, few pastry choices, a total waste of $40. More importantly...advice to the older crowd...there is NO grab bar in the stand-up shower, so make sure you've done your balance exercises. It keeps you focussed, if nothing else. But, overall, this is one nice hotel, with wonderful staff and top-notch rooms. Enjoy!!!!
The Scotsman is a beautifully restored hotel directly across from the train station. Our room was veey clean and the air conditioning was greatly appreciated. The staff was friendly and very helpful.
Location
Not as much luxury as expected
Great location and excellent staff. Very comfortable bed - slept like a log!
Some plumbing issues with my sink
Fantastic location
Everything was lovely!
We loved the location. It was especially easy to get to when arriving by train at Waverly. Staff was great.
Bed was a little firm for us.
Great location in the Old Town of Edinburgh. Easy to walk everywhere. Very comfortable beds and accommodating staff.
Restaurant could be a bit better - food was inconsistent, good one day but not the next. Also, I had some plumbing issues in my double standard room.
Everything! The room was spacious, clean and modern. The bathroom was gorgeous. The staff were also friendly and helpful.
We should have booked two nights instead of one.
We recently hosted our engagement party at the Scotsman Hotel, and we honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From the very beginning, the entire team went above and beyond to make sure our night ran as smoothly as possible. A huge thank you to Klea, who was fantastic throughout the planning process. She was always helpful, responsive, and made everything so easy in the lead-up to the event, giving us complete confidence that everything was in hand. On the day itself, a very special shoutout to Ferris, who truly took charge and made sure every detail was perfect. They went above and beyond, helping us set up all of our decorations and taking so much of the stress off our shoulders so we could simply enjoy the day. Nothing was too much trouble, and it was clear they genuinely cared about making our celebration special. The whole staff were incredibly friendly, professional, and attentive throughout the evening, ensuring everything ran seamlessly. Their hard work and dedication made our engagement party unforgettable, and we’re so grateful for everything they did. If you’re looking for a venue with exceptional service and a team that genuinely goes the extra mile, we couldn’t recommend the Scotsman Hotel highly enough. Thank you all for helping make such an important day so perfect!

Excellent Hotel Great location Professional courteous staff Good buffet breakfast Spacious well appointed bedroom and bathroom. Grand cafe setting but with somewhat limited offerings
Because of construction right under the windows of the hotel room my husband could not sleep at all. He came down reception several times at night and complained about unbearable noise. The construction work ended only at 3:50 am. The person at the reception told him that he would be compensated for the inconvenience but that did not happen yet.
Chosen location for my son's wedding Saturday 11th July.flawless experience and outstanding customer care and service.Ferys is one of the nicest most genuine person I have had the pleasure to meet and i cannot fault anything during our two days,it was an amazing experience and the newlyweds were treated like royalty.Absolutely outstanding in every way possible Steve grubb
Stefano is a truly amazing concierge. He went above and beyond the call of duty to assist us. He happily volunteered to carry four very large, very heavy suitcases up a massive flight of stairs. He was polite, sociable, and a great conversationalist. If there were a Concierge of the Year award, Stefano would certainly win it. Thank you, Stefano, for making our very first experience in Scotland one of kindness and generosity. We will be booking at the Scotsman again in the future because of Stefano.
Near everything in old town. Short walk to everything. Trains and busses to visit other places.
We had an amazing stay at The Scotsman Hotel, made even more memorable by the outstanding service from Sudan. From the moment we arrived, he took exceptional care of us and made us feel genuinely welcome. He kindly helped us secure a restaurant reservation, provided excellent recommendations, and ensured every detail of our stay was taken care of. His attention to detail, professionalism, and personal approach truly stood out. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and it was clear that he genuinely cared about making our experience special. Sudan is a real asset to the hotel, and his dedication to guest service is one of the reasons we'll definitely be returning.
great hotel, perfect location
We had our wedding reception at the Grand Cafe back in June and couldn't be more ecstatic with the professionalism, attentiveness and friendliness from the staff who worked on our special day. Massive thanks go to Klea who worked tirelessly on and met our many requests with a positive and caring manner. We can't thank you enough for all of your hard work in making sure our day was perfect. The personal touches and arrangements she suggested were perfect. Kris the chef also worked hard to meet our requirements and made sure our food was perfect on the day. Our guests are still saying it's the best wedding meal they've ever had! The day was perfectly managed and organised and went without a hitch thanks to the hard work of the staff involved. This meant we could relax knowing we had nothing to worry about on our special day.
We had such a lovely stay at The Scotsman Hotel, and what really made the difference was the incredible staff. A huge thank you to John at breakfast, who greeted us each morning with a smile and made us feel genuinely welcome. He was attentive, friendly, and always made sure we had everything we needed. It's rare to come across someone who takes such pride in looking after guests, and it certainly didn't go unnoticed. We'd also like to give a special mention to Marta at reception. From the moment we arrived, she was warm, kind, and incredibly helpful. Nothing was too much trouble, and she always took the time to chat with us and ensure everything was perfect throughout our stay. Her friendly personality and genuine care made us feel more like valued guests than just another room number. Thank you, John and Marta, for making our stay so memorable. You are both a real credit to The Scotsman Hotel, and we can't wait to return.
Central location. Room renovated and very well done. Good breakfast. Friendly staff.
The carpet in the corridors Was light and hard to manage for clean look. But overall very nice.

Excellent central location. Staff was very helpful
Hallway had some wet spots and a bit of musty odor, but room was fine
Todo fue perfecto! Lo mejor fue la ubicación, walking distance to must attractions.
A fabulous hotel with a great location and wonderful restaurant to go along with it. Our room was lovely and the service great. In the heart of Edinburgh and a 10-15 minutes walk to the castle. The restaurant in the hotel has really good food and service and is also very pretty to look at with large marble columns. Everybody is so nice there. A little more then what we wanted to spend, but worth it.
Wonderful Hotel right in the heart of the city. Walk to everything you need to do and see, walking distance to Car rental and 2 minutes from the Royal Mile. There was a young trainee concierge ( Stefano) that was simply a star. 2 weeks into his job and made everything so welcoming and nothing was an issue. I hope he passes his probation as we have been to 15 different hotels in the past 5 weeks and he was a standout to accompany a sensational hotel. Congratulations.
Amazing building, Fantastic location Attentive and helpful staff
The rooms and hallways are looking a bit tired for $1000 a night. Curtains in room broken and let light in room all night.
Bien situé pour visiter à pied Old Town.
Where do I even begin? We honestly cannot put into words how incredible our wedding day at The Scotsman Hotel was. From the moment we started planning right through to the last dance, every single member of staff went above and beyond to make sure our day was absolutely perfect. The venue itself is simply stunning, the location is perfect and steeped in Edinburghs history. Every room is beautiful, elegant, and full of character, creating the most magical setting for our wedding. Our guests haven’t stopped talking about how gorgeous it was. The staff were nothing short of exceptional. They were warm, attentive, professional, and genuinely cared about making our day as special as possible. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and they made both of us feel completely looked after from start to finish. We were able to relax and enjoy every moment because we knew we were in the safest hands. The food was absolutely outstanding. Every course was beautifully presented and tasted incredible, with so many of our guests commenting that it was some of the best wedding food they’d ever had. As a bride and groom, you dream of your wedding day being perfect, and The Scotsman Hotel exceeded every expectation we had. They didn’t just host our wedding—they created memories that my husband and I will treasure for the rest of our lives. To everyone at The Scotsman Hotel, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for giving us the most magical day imaginable. Your kindness, dedication, and attention to every little detail meant the world to us. We would recommend The Scotsman Hotel to any couple looking for the perfect wedding venue without hesitation. It is definitely value for money, the rooms are super clean, elegant and just stunning. If we could give more than five stars, we absolutely would! We will celebrate our anniversary with a night at The Scotsman next year for sure!
Beautiful hotel but services are lacking for almost £500 a night. The room I had was very spacious, although the second room for my group was smaller.
Stayed for almost 1 week. Constantly had to ask for a teabag as they either did not refill or would take a very long time to deliver a teabag. Needed to do laundry but they forgot to provide us a laundry bag in the room, then told us they couldn’t find laundry cards to write down the laundry order so they couldn’t do our laundry (not sure why I couldn’t have written it on a piece of paper for them instead? Ended up going to a laundromat down the road and paying them instead… The lift broke down multiple times during my stay and they had to get it serviced. Also for some reason couldn’t sleep well at all. Had nightmares the first night and almost called reception to switch rooms the next day. Which it’s certainly a nice hotel, it wasn’t good value for money. Almost £500 a night in July.
Location and ambience
Breakfast management needs refinement. Hotel is way to expensive for what you get. Very poor lift service. Place is a bit of a rabbit warren, typical UK.
Bed not comfortable but staff gave us a mattress topper
The staff were great we went there for our 20th wedding anniversary and they did our room with some very special touches which was really nice the property location is fantastic the food was lovely just can't fault it will definitely book again .
Everything was great no complaints
Everything Fabulous location Great staff Room superb Very comfortable begreat breakfast
Nothing
This was the best hotel experience of our trip and we stayed at about 7 hotels over our month long trip. The staff was great, the room was spacious and amazing, the view was lovely and the location was perfect. We loved every minute of our stay. My only small little complaint is that the soap was very manly-scented which I didn’t like and it would be great to have a spa/hot tub on property, but it’s super trivial. Next time we are in Edinburgh we won’t stay anywhere else.
Great location. Room very comfy. Very quiet which is great in the busy area it is. Staff nice. Little welcome choccies and prosecco for my husbands birthday which was a lovely surprise!
The only thing really was the restaurant. The cocktails were terrible, largely water and they were extortionate. £38 for 2 and honestly there was 30mls of liquid at most. Quite disappointing. Wouldn’t return to the restaurant again as have been a couple of times and same experience each time. But the hotel was nice.
Great location and staff were exceptional
Nothing
Me pareció innecesario
We had the leavers Prom at the Scotsman last Friday night. I was not looking forward to it as we’d been there about 5 years ago and it hadn’t been great. However, and this is a big however, it was OUTSTANDING. The staff were so attentive, checking in, checking on allergies etc. The food, and they were catering for a huge group, was incredible. The beef daube was melt in the mouth and the dauphinois, delicious. Also, not sure how they managed it with a party so large, but it was piping hot. The venue too was beautiful, like the magical land we want for our kids leaving. So, honestly, can’t recommend highly enough. Book it. Book it now. Another quick shout out to the staff, from the bloke who was in charge to the waiting staff, what a 360. Immense. Thank you.
The location was great for what we needed
Paid £600 to stay a night here, the room was large but there was hair in the bed, the carpet filthy and stained and the robes were so so worn it felt/looked like it had been washed and reused 300 times. Didn’t feel a welcoming atmosphere on check in, Went for a drink after checking in, the host (Asian lady) was incredibly rude and not accommodating I asked if I could have a drink she said there was a large party coming in and I was to sit at the bar, I asked if I could possibly have a lower seat as the bar was practically empty she said no, so I asked the bar tender who was little more helpful and he said it was another 45 mins until this large party was coming in, I was only going to have a quick drink before heading out. So I asked her again and she huffed and puffed and said I have 45 mins and then will have to leave , so I sat down and felt so uncomfortable whilst the host gathered with the other staff chatting away and then waited 20 minutes until someone would take a drink order from me. It was all so weird and uncomfortable I paid £600 a night to stay here and it was absolutely not worth it.

Gracias!
Todo maravilloso!
Chose the hotel for it's central location and it was. Asked for a room with a decent view- did not get it. Was in a attic like room with no view. The reception amd service staff ranged from completely indifferent to downright unhelpful. The was decent size as was the bathroom. Breakfast was additionally (high) price so didn't try. It is seriously overpriced for what it delivers. Plenty of nicer centrally located options to choose from. Separately- the road outside is under serious construction causing traffic diversion. If you have luggage- there will be detours and you will get no help from the hotel staff.
Cool place to stay Middle of everything
Breakfast room didn’t have windows The windows in my “room with a view” were dirty
The location, nothing can beat it! The staff at the reception were just great!
It feels a bit outdated, the breakfast options were quite limited and not par with the expectations. I was surprised to see very limited options. You had to wait a lot for the lifts to arrive.
THEY ARE NOT GLUTEN FREE, they lie, The manager promised an £80 refund for the awful experience we received and we have still not received it.
