Good service and quiet and clean place
Nothing
Quiet
The hotel seemed dated and tired. It seemed maintained but maybe just hanging on.
The pool and outdoor areas were a nice vibe.
The first room we were put in was not clean or well kept. It was visibly dirty and there were lots of items that had a lot of wear and tear including walls and ceilings in the room. The halls all had carpet that was peeling up. The furniture had a fair amount of wear and tear.
It was clean and comfortable. The pool was amazing. The breakfast was good.
Nothing
great staff!
kept getting lost in the building! it's a bit of a labyrinth.
Excellent déjeuner, personnel courtois et chambre sans aucune odeur d'animaux tel que demandé.
Les rideaux et le rideau de douche étaient tachés.
Great breakfast; good variety. The outdoor pool and indoor hot tub were great as was the gas fire pit by the pool. Comfortable bed and quiet location.
Can't think of anything...
Staff was friendly and accommodating on a first floor room. However, I explained I had my 82 year old Nanna who had surgery in the am and were at the very end of the hall not close to an exit as requested.
Beds weren’t comfortable, pillows were 1/2 a pillow literally. Room was far from clean found someone’s pill they must have dropped between the cabinet and fridge. Walls were paper thin, vending machine compressor kept us up all night. Overall just not great.
We stopped here for one night as we traveled the Maine coast. Hotel is rather tired looking and needs refurbished. However, the staff were nice, hotel clean and pool area is huge with outdoor pool and indoor hot tub. Also included breakfast.
Clean and comfortable, a short drive from downtown
Nothing
I had too book with booking and nor the hotel itself....such a rip off as I didn't get any discounts or senior discounts....shame to rip people off
I had too book with booking and nor the hotel itself....such a rip off as I didn't get any discounts or senior discounts....shame to rip people off
Property was clean and only 10 minutes drive from downtown.
A majority of the outlets in our room didn’t work so it was challenging to charge your phone. Outdated hotel that isn’t worth the price paid.
The breakfast was good. the pool was alright. The staff was great. Landscape looked great.
The carpet in the hallways needs to be kicked back in.. it’s an out dated hotel.. beds were not comfortable at all. Small rooms the whole building has an awkward smell to it. If they put in as much effort into the interior as they do the exterior it would be a halfway decent place to stay.
Modest
Not many choices
I stayed here after several years staying at the Fireside Inn and Suites, equally close to Portland (in a different direction), and considerably less expensive--so it was interesting to compare. The main thing I like is an outdoor pool, which both hotels have. The one here at Best Western is warmer, which is nice, but the Fireside Pool is (barely) warm enough in the heat of summer. Fireside pool is also less crowded and --important!--has some umbrellas for shade, also some areas where you can sit at shaded tables and work. I love this; i'm a writer, and sometimes sit there for a long time. BW has no shade at all, no umbrellas and no place to sit at a table and work, so for that reason I'd pick Fireside for pool. That said, BW pool is open late and full of people (mostly kids and young families), so if you like to be around people at night, this is the better one for that. There's also a fire pit that was on one night, which was nice after a swim, and nice for chatting with people. The rooms at BW are a little nicer, but not much. The biggest plus is that the window can be opened a few inches, which is nice if you ever want a little breeze or fresh air. Fireside windows are basically bolted shut. (yuck) Both hotel rooms have some flaws, though. In my BW room, the toilet paper holder was falling off the wall and the outlets wouldn't hold a heavier plug (i.e. iPhone or computer cords) without being propped in. Both hotels have in-room fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. BW room had a little more space and an extra sink, which is nice, though not really necessary for me. I can't remember the pillows at Fireside, but BW has six small pillows on the (king) bed, all the same; even one larger or thicker one would've been nice for those who prefer a different kind. BW has a breakfast until 10 .(Fireside gives out breakfast sandwiches at the desk--both (unfortunately) with meat, so I've never had them--and some other pretty unhealthy stuff, like granola bar equivalents). It's--the one at BW--a pretty standard American breakfast: egg-substitute (bad), pancake machine (fun but not sure I want to know what's in them), some cereals and like Nutella and Jif peanut butter. For me, it's not worth paying for this breakfast; i'd rather bring in fruit and nuts and pb I like, and eat it on my own time. But with kids, i can totally see why this would be a plus. All in all, I think BW is probably better for families with kids, and Fireside, with its lower price and slightly better location, IMO (there's a diner very nearby, a great market a short drive away), might be better for someone like me, a single, middle-aged woman looking for a quieter pool with some shade. Tho i do love that the window here opens; rooms at Fireside can get extremely clammy in a way my room here didn't seem to. Hope this helps!
All staff was helpful and friendly( except for the first front desk staff seemed ready to be done with her shift) Outdoor pool was large. Appreciate adjoining rooms.
Facility is really old. Beds were worn out, too soft & uncomfortable. The rooms they put us in weren't adjoining, even though staff insisted they were. Thankfully they were able to correct this. Breakfast room was too small for the size of the hotel and # of guests. Shower drain in one room was clogged. Thankfully they fixed this for our 2nd night. Overall we paid a lot for the quality of the hotel.
Rooms were clean, beds were comfortable, location was near the airport, and facilities were great.
Best Western 5 Star, wow, Fantastic staff, Fantastic, they were so nice and friendly. Great room, pet friendly, quiet, they had souvenir's in the lobby which really no one really has across the USA. Except of course for Love's Travel Stop. upper floor, weight room, pool area the daughter loved it. Close drive to Acadia National Park and the coastal drive. Great location period for what we required. Fantastic.
The location is great! The staff is very professional and the breakfast selection was very good. Recyclable utensils and paper products could be upgraded. The room needs upgrading because the bathroom door wouldn’t close completely and there was damage to the door hinge. Also, there was a leak in the ceiling and hair in the tub. Mattress was not completely comfortable and square pillows are bothersome. Normally, we find BW standards vary greatly and are not consistent from location to location.

I was well aware that I wasn’t staying at a five star hotel but I was hoping things would be a bit nicer. The hotel was dated, which is fine but it certainly didn’t feel clean. There was mold on the ceiling, paint was peeling and the beds were tough to sleep in as they felt like they lost their form. Service was good, no complaints there but the overall experience was just not great. The pool was good and the kids enjoyed that and the gym was adequate for a workout. The hotel did allow dogs however you couldn’t leave them in the room when you left which made it challenging. When I called about this, nothing was said about not allowing us to leave her so that was a bit of a shock. Won’t be staying here again.
We’ve been coming to the Merry Manor Best Western Hotel since at least 2008. The prices have skyrocketed and the rooms that we stayed in never got cleaned one time. We stayed at least three nights with an adjoining room and our garbage was never cleaned out, we never received clean towels or any bedding changes. I had to ask for towels at the front desk..
We originally reserved a room with 2 queens, but were “upgraded” to a suite so our child now had to sleep on a pullout couch instead of the regular bed we booked; he understandably complained of the springs during the night. Our king bed had a slope on the outsides making only the center comfortable for sleeping and leading to broken sleep for my spouse and me. The room was nice, but just not what we wanted/booked originally.
2 sinks in the room was a plus!
Location
Older hotel and rooms need a little work but it looked like they were trying to update.
Were given the very last room in the hotel. As in 370 rooms, we got 370. Very long walk for senior citizens with disabilities.
Great service, great facilities overall.
The room had a musty smell and a very old carpet. There were also black spots on the ceiling that kind of looked like mold.
Great area . Staff were amazing.
Hotel Location was perfect for day tripping in Portland. Reasonable value for hotel- very clean and staffed with super friendly employees- Front desk Maria and Anna were very pleasant and helpful. Everyone said hello and greeted us warmly. Rooms were on the smaller side and could use updating. Two separate sinks were appreciated more than the low toilet 😔in the small bathroom. Bed was comfy. Pool area was spacious with lots of seating and a fire pit table area. Breakfast room was amazing- there were varied delicious choices the two mornings we ate there. Breakfast room staff were great! Liked the coffee/tea machine in the lobby always available. Overall we enjoyed our stay at Merry Manor in Portland Maine.
Good value, comfy beds, convenient location, welcoming staff
A bit dated and needs some updates
Pool for the kids! And good location.
Staff and overall facilities were great!
Beds are overly soft and sag when you're on it.
The pool was great here
Our keys constantly stopped working to get into the room. I had to get new keys made every day including the very first hour we were there because we were given the wrong room. Things in the room didn’t work well and everything thing constantly felt damp.
The breakfast was top notch! Very impressive and tasty. Lots of options.
Clean hotel, friendly helpful staff.
Très bon petit déjeuner. Il y avait suffisamment de choix et il y’en avait suffisamment.
La chambre était trop humide. Le taux d’humidité devait être très élevé. On le sentait sur notre corps.
Very good breakfast selection. The staff is super friendly and the hotel is in great condition overall, with the exception of the shower.
The shower needs help. It just splatters water everywhere and gets the floor wet. While the breakfast is delicious, it is very space-challenged. It's kept in a room that needs a key and isn't large enough to accommodate the massive amount people piling into it.
The pool and all of the amenities are awesome
Didn't like to color of the water in the hot tub spa, it was pretty dark. So we didn't get in.
The location was nice, it was a quick 10 min drive from Portland downtown. The basics like towels and sheets were clean.
Even though the basics were clean, the room was dirty: windowsills, curtains, walls, behind and under the furniture, nonslip coating of the bathtub needed deep cleaning or replacing. The amenities were also only OK, the pool was quite sad with a few chairs and no shade provided. The breakfast room was stuffy, the breakfast was typical 3 star hotel breakfast, nothing exceptional.
The pools staff great and breakfast was good a lot to choose from
There was bacon !!!! So many places only have sausage. Otherwise, a standard hotel complimentary meal to get the day started.
The snack items at the desk could have been stocked. When we got back we were looking forward to some ice cream & such that was listed at the desk but the "shop" only had 1 klondike bar. The pillows are way too fluffy that go flat once you lay on them...not comfortable. Breakfast area can get crowded due to small space.
Perfect location, just a few minutes from the Old Port and the city downtown. Quite calm and nice, pet-friendly, respecful ambiance, and great service. The installation is old, from my point of view, it needs a refurbish, but in general it is clean and nice. The rooms are of a regular size, they are also clean and confortable. A very good breakfast (the usual ones in this type of hotels), excellent service and cleanliness.
Quiet and could bring dog. Asked for no carpeting and they accommodated me. Very nice people at desk.
Very old with peeling wallpaper. Filthy grout in the bathroom. Strange smell in the room.
Good location with easy access. Everything we needed was available like ice and vending machines, comfortable and clean room, tv with free HBO, large safe for my 17” laptop, etc
Breakfast area could be bigger and better organized
pool and jacuzzis
breakfast is ok but very basic and it gets busy quickly, too AC cold the breakfast room…
It was great.
the bathrooms, especially the shower need to be updated.
The room was quiet, the beds were comfortable, the wi-fi was an excellent speed, and the breakfast was delicious every morning. The room was extremely clean, too. We always enjoy staying at Best Western hotels.
I personally had no problems with our stay. I guess if I had to choose one thing, it was that the TV always reset to the main menu every time we turned it on - even though we just wanted to watch what we had been watching previously.
The location was perfect, the pool was spacious and warm and just deep enough. The room was comfortable- we loved the big window, the bed's soft square pillows, and appreciated that there were enough towels for each of us, plus the front desk provided pool towels so we didn't have to bring our room towels out or sandy beach towels from home. The breakfast had something for everyone. Our room was very near the breakfast room, so I made a few trips to keep from bringing the entire family in and out of what could be a busy area. Everyone ate, and everyone was happy! An extra thank you to Aisha at the front desk who spoke with me by phone to let me know that while official early check-in was not available due to high capacity/sell-out the night before, we could try calling back closer to 1300 to see if a room would be ready by then. We were nearby, so we drove over around 1300. Aisha greeted me at the front desk, said a room was now available, and got us in so the kids could change and get right to the pool. Very helpful and so kind. Thank you for getting our stay off to a great start!
The toilet in our room had a broken fixture, so it either wouldn't flush or kept running. It was frustrating to have to take the heavy back ceramic plank/lid off the back of the toilet and hold the fixture in place while the tank refilled every single time. Especially frustrating since I was traveling with a young child who wanted to "help" and I was worried about dropping the toilet tank lid onto his foot since there was nowhere else to set it down while I jiggled the fixture. Only one other complaint: the internet did not work from the time we got there until the time we checked out. The code was printed on our room key envelope, so we were sure we didn't enter something wrong, but it never worked. Since the hotel is located in a place with only one bar of cell phone reception, and we were in town to try and meet up with friends and relatives, it would've been nice to have internet access to research and coordinate our itineraries. But those are first world problems. It was overall a great stay, and we'll be back next month to visit again!
the pool and breakfast were great. the staff was super friendly and helpful.
the hot tub was closed and there were kids running around and being loud all hours of the night
I stayed here one night in May with my husband. Hotel is definitely dated but it was clean. Nice variety at breakfast. The hairdryer was outside the bathroom at the 2 nd sink. The cord is not long enough to reach into the bathroom. Unfortunately for my husband he needed to hear the hairdryer which was not far from the bed. Odd placement choice I feel. Hotel served its purpose for us. Reason for the 3 stars was check out. I had a $50 off our next Best Western stay that I intended to use for this trip. This was a main reason of why I picked this hotel. When I did the booking online I put in all the information for the $50 off. When I checked into the hotel, I mentioned this to the gentleman behind the desk and he said that everything was fine. When I checked out the next day when I looked at the bill as I was walking out the door towards my car. I noticed the $50 was not taken off any longer. We went back to the front desk and there was a different gentleman there that morning. He said that I did not have the $50 off and that I needed proof to show him. I had told him that I put all the information on when I booked, but he did not want to hear that. He was really giving me a hard time. Luckily I just stood there and went through all the photos on my phone because I like to take screenshots of everything just in case. Sure enough I had pictures of everything that I was able to show him. He did apologize, but it left a very bad impression as he made me feel like I was trying to get away with something.
Free parking, free coffee in the lobby, close to Thompson's point, free breakfast, although it was crowded.
The place was dated, could use a refresh. No towels available down by the hot tub / pool.
Maria at the front desk is the best. The check-in/check-out was sobeasy and quick. Be sure to ask Maria for some suggestions of what to do and where to go! This is a pretty hotel and very clean. The hot tub and kiddie pool is inside and then the larger pool is outside. They had a full and tasty breakfast each morning.
Large room, comfortable bed. Excellent breakfast. Used the laundry did get overcharged on washer. Nice facilities
Washer charged me twice on my card for one load
good to offer breakfast, we missed your nice restaurant though. Last time we stayed there, we had a great meal
the place needs some much needed updates, our ceiling could use a coat of paint, it was dusty from the air conditioning, bathroom shower and vent was very old
The rooms have not been updated since roughly 2000. The air-conditioning unit was very loud and it felt like the bed was vibrating based on the air-conditioning units high fan speed. All of that said, I would recommend if you are looking for a reasonable hotel to stay in for a few nights.
The swimming pool was amazing, and the staff were very helpful; they gave detailed information about the property and amenities, and they made us feel very welcome.
Although our room was clean and comfortable, the shower was awful. The caulking around the tub was moldy, and the drain didn’t work well. The tub slowly filled with water as I showered, and I can’t stand having filthy water from the drain around my ankles. Since we only stayed one night, it wouldn’t have helped us to complain, but I really hate poor drains in hotels!
The Best Western Merry Manor is in an excellent location and has several amenities including a great breakfast, a gym, a heated pool and a hot tub. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed our stay in Portland and it was helpful that we could easily reach both Cape Elizabeth and the downtown area. The history of Portland as a port city is fascinating. We also had the opportunity to visit Peaks Island and ride bikes around the island. My only suggestion is to carefully research parking in the downtown area; it is quite costly. We finally found an outdoor lot that was $25 for a full day near the ferries. Another good in-door lot is on Elm Street(near the library), but they were closed onSunday. I would recommend this Best Western for your next vacation. Some good places to eat were Rodeo (Mexican food), the Tavern near by had great lightly fried haddock.
Breakfast was good.
The hot tub was like warm and the jets didn't work. It was very disappointing.
Pool area hot tub
Rude guests
The pool was cool
No negatives
Breakfast was great
Beds not comfortable. Matress seemed worn out in our room. Room was noisy, right next to pool. Hot tub not working properly. No jets. Then it was not available for most of the next day because they drained it.

Asked for conjoining. Called to confirm. Got here they couldn’t accommodate.
This place is always amazing. It is my first choice for hotels for Portland trips. Amazing pool. Best free breakfast I’ve ever experienced in a hotel! Allowed for late check out.
I have nothing but good things to say!
We stay every year with our dance team, it is close to the venue location, breakfast is always great to have, some do use the outdoor heated pool. it really works for our needs.
Hot tub
How much I paid
This was our sixth winter"ish" trip to Merry Manor and it didn't disappoint at all. We love the heated salt water pool and enjoyed the Forest Room on this night in March. Breakfast was solid and overall a great experience
Everything! Amazing breakfast, amazing staff, great pools/amenities. Great stay with my wife and perfect for my two little ones (3 and 2). First time and we will be back!
We liked everything!
Heated indoor/outdoor pool! Waterfall hot tub Great breakfast
Its a warm and welcoming location and the breakfast was delicious I highly recommend staying here with your family!
Fine. Good breakfast with good maintenance during the breakfast hours.
Room was a bit cramped. But I chose the lowest price.
Love the aesthetic of the pool, lights, pillar fireplaces, but couldn't FULLY enjoy them. The beds were comfortable.
Not family-friendly. The pool area was LOADED with impaired adults, unsupervised kids, and open containers. The kids who were WITH adults weren't being supervised because said parents were completely sauced in the hot tub with no direct view anyway. I had to have our kids get out of the pool because drunk men were doing backflips into the pool without looking for kids. It's also hard to believe that the same pool entrance area that's littered and filthy on a Saturday night is the same place where we are served breakfast on Sunday morning. Totally appalled that staff allow it to get that rowdy and messy. We were so looking forward to our stay, but are sorely disappointed.
The location is very hard to find- difficult to manage n get around when too many people are around. Filing fold up and keeping trash empty was an issue.
Cleaning the are as
Had to wait for room to be cleaned
Breakfast was beyond my expectations!!
An extra blanket in the closet would be a great idea!
Great staff, comfortable room.
Dog barking across the room whenever anyone walked by.
Breakfast was yummy!
Food was great
Lits confortables. Chambre propre. Petit-déjeuner correct. Piscine et spa numéro 1. Personnel remarquables. Merci pour l’excellent séjour.
Staff was very helpful researching the closest Catholic church for mass.

short toilet, wall paper in bathroom coming off the walls, unclean windows, little towels, bad smells in hallways, stairs and hallway needed a vacuum, bathroom needs overall; clean doors and woodwork in bathroom, lumpy bed, clogged sink
Location was good as was the breakfast.
The breakfast was good. The heated pool was fun. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The bed was very uncomfortable and the pillows were terrible. The hot tub was great the first night. The second night, there were at least 20 people in it. We went back an hour later, and they were still too many people.
