Provider-sourced guest reviews.
The breakfast exceeded expectations, the room was a good temperature and bed was comfortable.
The bathroom, specifically the shower was off putting due to brown water stains and mold in the ceiling light. One of the lamps in the room was missing a light bulb as well.
Clean, easy to access.
I really liked the coffee options. The room was great, nice and spacious.
Location,everything is close by.
For the price I paid for 2 night 863,those bedsheets, pillows cases were not ironed, with wrinkles.those pillows, mattress are not good. They need new ones, waking up in the morning all my body hurts. Level up, innovate.
Excellent location 5 minutes from Portland airport
Our room was not cleaned on the second day of our 3-night stay. I complained and was told the rooms are serviced every 3 days. I was not pleased. For $300 a night I want fresh towels and the bathroom cleaned daily. Also the “breakfast” was minimal, nothing fresh.
Location
No shampoo or body wash was broken
Property says pet friendly but once you check in you can not leave your room, how is that pet friendly
Horrible experience. Filthy rooms. Dirty bedding and paper thin sheets. Lack of staff and no housekeeping the whole stay!
Horrible experience. My wife and I have been to dozens of Hilton hotels in the past few years including Home2Suites in several different cities and have had great experiences. The highlights here were a very dirty room, moldy shower, hair in the refrigerator (how does housekeeping not see that??), staff that were put out when we asked for fresh towels because our room NEVER got cleaned during our 3 night stay! I do not recommend this property.
Not much just the location
The room was not clean. We asked for extra blankets and it didn’t come up. We had to go downstairs to get them. They did not have any. They gave us sheets for first night. There was no sheets on the bed.
Breakfast was good. .
Wallpaper in bathroom was filthy.
We were very pleased with the hotel and room. The breakfast was okay, but it was a limited selection, and the eggs and ham were on the cold side.
The breakfast options and temperature of the food could have been better.
Pool was great, free breakfast, room was decent.
A little outdated
It was spacious
The breakfast
Not a great experience overall. Off smell in the hallways; the room was dusty, the tables throughout the room had leftover sticky spots from previous guests' meals. Whatever, no biggie as long as the bedsheets were clean, which they were, so we didn't make a fuss over it. The worst part of the stay was certainly the service. Around 11 pm on the day of check in, we arrived back at the hotel and I realized I had forgotten a toothbrush. I am a very frequent traveler, and have been for many years both for work and personal reasons. I am also, despite my best efforts, quite a forgetful person. With this in mind, I know that it is essentially a brand standard at Hilton hotels to keep extra toiletries, such as a toothbrush and toothpaste, at the front desk. So, I did what I always do (again, frequently - I'm working on it!), and simply went to the front desk to request a toothbrush. Jose, the clerk at the front desk, smirked and informed me "we don't have toothbrushes." I giggled, because I thought he was joking and told him that in my years of stays at Hilton hotels, all over the country (including this one in the past!), I had never heard such a thing. He laughed at us and said nothing else, and I walked to my room to do the undignified task of brushing my teeth with my finger - it was, after all, 11 pm and any Walmart or pharmacy for miles was closed. I accepted that was that, and, although I was a little irked that I was laughed at for such a mundane request, got on with my evening and went to bed. The real kicker was when my travel companion returned to the front desk the next morning, and offhandedly requested a toothbrush - only to be miraculously given one! They indeed had them all along, but Jose was either a) too lazy to go grab one for me, or b) on some type of a power trip and didn't WANT to give me one. Embassy Suites is also near the airport and offers cleaner rooms, and far better service (the bar being that they don't laugh at you, or try their very best to make you feel stupid). They also have plenty of spare toiletries if you need them 😉.
Good location
The mattress in room 231 really really needs replacing! It’s lumpy and rolls to the middle- two nights later and I’m still trying to get the kink out of my back.
Location, accommodating staff, comfortable,
Signs of neglect, disposal didn’t work so the drain in kitchen sink smelled, it had a kitchen but not one spoon in utensils, carpets are really dingy and very watered down coffee.
My Granddaughter says the pool
Nothing we stay there a lot
Easy to find off interstate
Not clean, way too crowded in breakfast area, very disorganized and no room
Location was good. Room was clean and comfortable. Also spacious. Plenty of towels and supplies
Had stayed at Home2 in N Conway in Dec that was much nicer than this one. Was kind of disappointed in quality. Pool was horrible - very small and not all that clean. Seemed quite old. And the complimentary “breakfast” was very bad. Not much choice of anything. Fruit was especially sparse.
We travel to Portland for annual trips, we've tried other area locations which we really love. We tried this location because the Home 2 in our home time is really great. Our first impression of the hotel when entering was met with a very high chlorine presence in the main lobby from the pool which is an indication of used chlorine presence which has gassing off from the pool. We found stains on our bed sheets that had obviously been laundered but not discarded. The stain was a dark red/maroon color. We stripped the bed to find a very large yellow stain on the mattress itself encompassing over 30% of the mattress. We took pictures of stained sheets and mattress to the front desk. They said they would change the sheets. I asked for a new mattress, they responded by saying that was out of the question and fused to change the mattress out. I asked for it to be treated, they said yes, When we got back to our room that evening, the mattress was still the same, untreated and unflipped. No attempt at all to service or treat the mattress. There were stains on the bathmat the first morning, the new bath mat had a tear/rip. We observed food crumbs in the hallway on the 3rd floor and spilled food on the main lobby floor in front of the elevator. The breakfast area had an appliance that was out of order but was not signed as such. It didn't work. So instead of removing the appliance or putting a sign on it, it was just left there. There was confusion and many guests also tried to operate the conveyor toaster, it was left to guests to communicate to other guests that the appliance did not work. Overall, not an experience worth repeating. Won't be back.
Price point versus deliverable
Price was so good, I have 0 complaints
The interior spaces were great- we liked the spacious lobby and breakfast area. The layout of our king suite with a sofabed and kitchen and dining area was great! The bed and bedding felt great.
The carpet had several large dark stains both in the living room area and in the bedroom- the hotel should get these stains out or replace the carpet - in room 333. You do hear the planes taking off and landing - the last one was close to 1 am and at 6 am the first one of the day was taking off. If you’re a light sleeper like I am, you won’t have your best night of sleep. The bathroom needs a bath mat.
The staff there was so kind and helpful
The shower was a little bit dirty not gunna lie on the top where you place the soap and there was no body wash in the shower. Also some of the other guest were sorta rid in the way they stare but totally not the property’s fault.
Large parking spaces for bigger vehicles. Room was very comfortable
I have stayed at many Home2Suites, we are Diamond members and this establishment does not come anywhere near the Hilton standards we have come to expect. The facility seems to be held together by a shoestring and a prayer. The first floor smells strongly of chlorine from the pool, which did not appear to get cleaned. There was always debris floating or in the pool to the point even our 11 year old was grossed out. The bathroom in the pool area needed the wall repaired due to a big hole in the drywall and did not appear clean. The customer service is practically non existent, the hotel itself is tired, the rooms were not clean, the breakfast in the morning was very sparse and unappetizing. I found it interesting that there is a sign on the front door telling people to be careful in the parking lot due to the weather conditions but the kept their van parked at the first space next to the drive up and front door. A spot that would be very helpful for customers since it is right next to an overhang, in addition they had a cone in the second spot also preventing its use also . This was consistent for our entire stay, and when the van was gone, they had both spots blocked with a cone. They could park the van in a spot away from the door to allow customers the convenience of getting into the building. The employees that we did see did not appear happy. Most times when you walk in to the hotel even just returning, they would at least greet you saying Hi, Welcome Back or something to acknowledge your presence. There is none of that here. They were not welcoming, did not speak and seemed to be annoyed by people's presence. One man would come in and out of the office behind the desk and just glare, appearing to keep watch over guests and the front desk clerk. The van driver appeared to be irritated constantly and slammed a laundry cart around hauling the pool towels going through the lobby. The breakfast lady was annoyed when the yogurt machine was not working and we asked for assistance. The most pleasant and helpful employee was a front desk clerk that said she had started approximately a month earlier. It started at check in, I checked in on the app, but when I got there they had changed the room and type of room I was assigned. I explained that I needed the room with two beds and after she "forced it through" the cost was $10 more than it had been when I originally made the reservations. I showed her the app and advised her of the rate that I should be charged but she ignored that and said " I will give you two waters to make up for the rate change". The room was not very clean, it did not look like the floors had been cleaned, the bathroom (in my pics) had spots and dirt, obviously not mopped. The bathroom sink was missing a drain stop. There was hair under the desk on the floor in the room. We received housekeeping one day in our five night stay, and we had left a dirty plate, glass and silver ware in the sink. For some reason they took it out of the sink and stacked it on our counter,,,still dirty. The sink was not cleaned out so, that was not the reason! Some of the silverware in the drawer was dirty and needed to be washed before we used it for the first time. There were four plates and glasses but all rooms we have stayed in before have racks in the cupboard for the plates.and one on the other side for the coffee cups, this had neither. It almost seemed like they stopped putting the room together in midstep. The sheets did not fit the bed correctly and the thin bottom sheet popped off at the corners every night. One pillow smelled like smoke, but when we asked for a new pillow twice, they never seemed to be able to understand the word pillow. We took one out of the extra supplies in the cabinet that are there for the pull out couch finally. The bathroom door in the room is a barn door style, but it did not latch properly and there was not a handle per se. It was difficult to open especially for our 11 year old. The computers in the lobby did not work. There were two available but one of the clerks stated they had not worked for "over a month". The fitness room was adequate and we were able to use that equipment. There were laundry facilities that were $5 a load, though we did not use them. The lobby area is dimly lit, and not welcoming. There is no decaffeinated coffee available, and the coffee pot is stashed back in a dark corner, basically discouraging its use. The hot water is put away after breakfast so you can not make tea. They turn the light off after breakfast over the alcove for the coffee as if to say its not available, but sometimes there was regular coffee. The "napkins" that were used were actually the folded paper towels that you get out of the bathroom. These were put out at breakfast also as the napkins to use. The TV screens are not turned on to a TV channel in the public area even during breakfast. They are used to advertise for Hilton. It is ironic that one of the screens talks about the unlimited breakfast sandwich combinations that you can make....but in reality we only saw every morning, one egg and one meat put out. In addition the cheese that you are expected to use is shredded cheese that is dumped out on the tray. The temperature was barely warm of the food and cheese was sitting next to a hot plate on the counter, though it was unclear what that hot plate should be used for. This breakfast was by far the poorest quality that I have ever seen on a Hilton property. When the milk was empty and we asked for some, the person working the breakfast did not appear to understand the word milk and it took quite a bit to get that refilled using hand gestures. The overall pervasive feeling was a dark, unwelcoming and slightly unsafe feeling. We did not get a comfortable feeling while in the hotel and only used it as a home base while visiting Maine. If we return to Maine, we would NEVER stay at this facility. I suspect its proximity to the airport is what helps keep them in business.
Very Clean
Location is great.
Loud. Both nights with loud stomping above our heads through the night.
Given some recent frustrations I have had with being assigned less than ideal rooms at Hilton properties, I was rather miffed that when I went to check in online I couldn't change my room. After some thought I just "went" with it in this case though. I have to say I was shocked by our room (122). The room was HUGE. It had a entirely separate bedroom from the living area, a bathroom in the middle with two doors on it and just an entirely different layout. That said, the room did have some issues. The first is that the room shared a common wall to the pool. We could hear, in the bedroom and the bathroom, every scream, comment or piece of conversation that was going on. Luckily it quieted down around 9pm, but it was annoying. Also, the room itself had some issues. The locks on the bathroom doors were broken, the sliding doors stuck pretty badly. One thing I didn't realize, despite being 'at the airport" was that it was actually at the end of the runway. The landing of planes got old quickly, however Portland isn't a huge airport so it didn't go too late into the evening. Other than those issues though the hotel was fine. It was in a good area and easy to get around.
The room, breakfast included
Loud airplanes early in the AM
Everything was great.
Room had plenty of size for family
Pool was smaller than anticipated. Multiple kids were not being supervised later in the evening making it hard for my children to enjoy themselves. The water in the shower was escaping and causing the bathroom to become wet.
Convenient
Breakfast continues to get worse each time we stay there
The pricing is ok for what is is
Room wasn’t stocked, not all amenities that were advertised were provided, bathroom door was a sliding door that wouldn’t properly close or latch, and the thermostat was not working leaving us to use the large loud fan that didn’t work well and kept us up at night.
Location cleanliness space
No hot tub
Location is great, and the room is very spacious and clean.
I had a horrible experience that hotel charged me double fee. Specifically, I got sick 2 days before hotel check-in, and I sent the request to change the check-in date, which is a 1-day delay check-in. However, there is no response from the hotel, and thus, I called BOOKING for assistance. The BOOKING contacted the hotel to finalize my request that my check-in date had been changed to the next day (Booking also sent me the confirmation of the change). However, the hotel still charged me the money from my credit card for another date - I actually only stayed for 1 night, but the hotel charged me 2 nights. For this issue, I was so frustrated as it took me lots of time to solve this problem by talking with BOOKING. Unfortunately, the hotel did not offer any solution and gave no responses, and I felt so disappointed as I could not imagine how such a big hotel had a miscommunication and charged me double amount but could not offer any solution.
Always clean and tidy.
Our toilet broke late at night and instead of just moving us so we could get right to sleep we had to: call for repair, wait, go to the desk for help, wait, then over an hour later at 945 pm the repair man was found and came to fix it.
I’m gluten free. Not tons of options, but the yogurt was really good.
Breakfast was good. Suite was sweet. Would be a great place to stay for a long term.
They offered a "digital" key. Told the wife not to bother so she decided to spend twice as much time as it would have taken to just check in at the desk. And after all that, IT DIDN"T WORK! Had to go check in at the desk. Inconvenient but definitely won't do that again. Plane noise wasn't too bad, goes with the territory but might really annoy someone else.
There was availability (open rooms)
Got charged for the room by booking.com and charged again by the establishment in addition to a $100 deposit on the room.
Convenient to airport.

Everything was great
Location was helpful as it was close to the airport and they provided a shuttle.
SMELL!!! The room smelled like a wet dog was smoking cigarettes just before we arrived. The sheets also had a terrible smell to them. If our flight wasn't delayed, and we got in at a decent time, I would have requested a new room.
The breakfast was really good at this hotel. The staff was really nice. The check-in was fast. The parking and the comfortable bed.
The thing that I don’t like about this hotel was that it wasn’t that clean on the countertop. There was hair from somebody else. The bathroom sink was dirty The tub was not that clean properly .The hotel itself looks very old inside.
Room as comfortable and roomy
I was charged $100.00 more than I was quoted on the website. Slamming doors all night long which was very unexceptionable for the price of the room.
I love this hitel

Fresh fruit. Wish there was bananas but otherwise great.
The whole second floor hallway smelled like marijuana. Very disappointing especially since there were no smoking signs posted everywhere. I get extremely bad headaches when smelling that smoke and I was miserable. Other than that we were happy with our stay. Wish I didn’t have to get a headache because some people weren’t following the no smoking.
the heating monerter was very loud could no sleep
Bathroom door was difficult to open and close. Walls were too thin and next door guests were very noisy. Breakfast was not well organized, 20 min wait to get coffee refilled and food was not enough for all guest.
Large room
The maintenance worker entering my room with a key with out knocking. I was scared as a single woman because the worker saw me in the hallway acknowledging me and watched me go in the room not 5 minutes later using his key to enter my room. This was outrageous but mire so the Male managers response no care for my safety no concern just a blank sorry and and offer of 20% discount. A full refund should have been offered. BE CAREFUL LADIES TRAVELING ALONE TO THUS HOTEL. I would never return their.
The stingy feel of things bothered me. I bar of soap, EMPITY shower gel container in shower, no conditioner, exactly 2 tiny creamers for in-room coffee. Absolutely no extras and cleanliness questionable. The light switches were dirty and the floor in bathroom sticky. Not great impression. Hilton has really gone down in past 10 years. The American flag outside needs replacing, it's disgraceful how tattered and dirty it is. The staff at front desk were okay .
Read the above. I really liked the proximity to the airport
I checked in to Home 2 suites by Hilton at 50 Maine Mall Rd. I went to my floor 2nd and saw a mess several trash cans and work supplies littered the hallway. I saw two male employees working. They both made eye contact with me as I walked towards my room and they saw me enter my room not more then 5 nothing passed after using the restroom that one of the male workers using a key he had entered my room No knock nothing just entered my room that he just saw me go in. I was shocked scared and angry. I yelled for him to get out and went right to the manager who did nothing but say he would estate the matter. I was given a new room and told the morning manager would speak to me. We'll he was no better offering only a 20% discount. I was scared and had an anxiety attack shortly after. BE CAREFUL ladies. I would never stay at this Hotel again. I called cooperate office and they were no help either. Shame on you Home2 suites South Portland Maine
