Holiday Inn Express Southampton West by IHG

Staff were very helpful on arrival - there was some issue checking in/room not ready but we had complimentary drinks while waiting. I had requested a twin but had a family room & when I asked for bedding for the sofa bed, the lovely lady on reception came up and made the bed up, even offering a mattress topper if it wasn't comfortable enough. Breakfast was fresh & plenty of options.

Thankfully I managed to get a blue badge parking space but I only saw 4 which seemed not enough for the size of the hotel.

Ease of getting the items. It’s good that children are not allowed unsupervised too.

Rooms are now very much past their best. There Were dusty surfaces and very damaged soft furnishings. Hotel rooms in need of a re furb now.

Location to the Isle of Wight Ferry was 20 mins away and for one night in transit it worked.

The room and hotel quality was not commensurate to the rate paid. Breakfast crockery had been poorly washed was dirty and food scraps attached. No bedside power points for CPAP machines.

This hotel is perfectly ok, the bed was comfy and the room clean. The car parking was fine, and the room facilities for one person were good.

What we didn't like was that the room was booked for 2 adults and we were promised 2 double beds, but the room only had one double bed and a sofa bed that had to be made up yourself. This was NOT what Booking.com sold us. We bought a room with 2 double beds in it - it was to be a father and son trip (both over 6 foot tall) and so 2 double beds were booked in one shared room. I'm writing this review to make people aware - all you get is ONE double bed and a sofa bed which after a 7 hour journey is NOT good enough. Room was clean and comfy but definitely over-sold.

The welcome drink. The room was spacious and clean. Bed was comfortable. The shower worked well. The layout of the bathroom was impressive: one door fit the toilet stall and the bathroom entrance. The TV had a good selection of channels. Breakfast was good with scrambled eggs, English bacon, sausage links, beans, potato triangles, dark and light bread with jam and butter, yogurt, mixed fruit, cereals, skim milk, juices, tea, and a coffee selection machine.

No AC in the room. No refrigerator in the room to keep the half pizza that I could not finish at dinner. Husband did not like his hamburger too much; although, my pizza was good.

We loved how friendly everyone was. Everyone was so nice and this created a wonderful atmosphere for both staff and guests. We are a family of 6 and we couldn’t be more impressed with the level of service and positive attitude from the staff. Johnny the Asian waiter was so lovely and so kind to us and our children so want to say a personal thank you to him.

It was quite hot in the room but manageable.

Check in was good and seemiless. The staff was good and explained well to us. 1. There was no iron in the room 2. At exactly 08:57 on 30th Aug there was an fire alarm which really disturbed my sleep. There was no warning there will be a fire alarm and it went on twice 3. A light next to the TV was not working making the room a bit dark. 4. The tables on the breakfast was not clean at all. 5. No mushrooms on breakfast menu

The staff were very friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived to the moment we left, couldn’t fault them at all. It was clean and glad they had fans in the room.

Personally I found the bed quite uncomfortable; it was a very firm mattress and the pillows were so hard that my neck was hurting on them. Although the options for breakfast were good, some of the hot food was not very hot and had clearly been sat out for a while and was dry / inedible.

No air conditioning in the bedroom. Windows were open for air but workers returned to the hotel at 3 in the morning so sound woke us up. Had an awful nights sleep. Evening meal was very poor - I would recommend giving it a miss and walking to a pub 5 minutes away

Plenty of parking, not far from cruise terminal, good breakfast with enough options (including dairy free). Staff were great - we needed something printing and stapling and they obliged without fuss.

The sofa bed was not comfortable and a hazard. It dipped down where your head goes and the metal folding mechanism was exposed - not exactly safe for young kids to sleep on. (It was a family room.)

The room was good beds comfy staff were great, location was perfect.

The food was not the best,,, chips tasted like cardboard, peas were hard, pie was ok,, overpriced at £18. Plus, My son had chicken pasta, again not great baguette bread rock hard again not worth 18£ Plus,,, chef mic,,,( microwave) works hard.

Due to extreme heat and the hotel NOT being air conditioned, we suffered in our room with only a small table fan. The window only opened about 6 inches and had no screen to keep out insects. Did not have adapters for US appliances. Staff said they used to have them but guests didn't return them. I would have been happy to pay a rental fee. Tinyest commercial elevator I have ever seen! Hotel needs to update guest room area. Lobby and breakfast area had been updated and were nice (and cool!).

The staff were really friendly and accommodating. My two little boys even got colouring books and crayons. Under 10min drive to Peppa Pig World - result!!

There was no air conditioning in the room and this was not clearly stated in the facilities when the booking was made. The breakfast was very average and the choices were the same each day.

Breakfast on both mornings was a bonus. There was plenty of basic choice, hot when needed. Tea was excellent even decaff option. Thank you. A bit busy in the actual dining area but fine. No queueing

No where else to put this comment. My satnav and the lack of details from the motorway meant I wasted over an hour looking for the premises, Sat nav sent me to a premise (no idea which or exactly where) on the opposite side of the Motorway exit. I phoned the telephone number but the lady couldn't hear me and I kept saying 'I'm lost'. Sunday early evening riding around the two sites no signs what is a maiden to do? I later discovered a HI sign had blown down!! However some kind security guard at the far end of the estate helped me out- used his phone and showed me a map. Don't know who he was but a life saver. Then Greggs was the signpost for me.

Helpful staff someone on desk even though we checked in late at night. They were happy to explain breakfast arrangements and with other enquiries.

It was clean, easy to find and very convenient for visiting family in Romsey. Staff were very polite and friendly.

No air conditioning in our room!! The fan was very old and noisy and got very hot, so we didn’t want to risk leaving it on all night. Consequently we had to open the window to get some air (we are in the middle of a heatwave!) which meant we got the noise from the motorway from 4am! 😱 I’m sure in normal weather the noise wouldn’t be such an issue as the window would be closed.

Housekeeping didn't happen for my first day/night (it was an extension of a previous booking, so should have been standard/had been requested). Door access was blocked early on the last day (ie before checkout time). Minor issues but not what I'd expect given the price and the previous positive experience.

Location convenient for M27. Reception staff failed to point out car parking screen now I am dreading the possibility of a car parking fine. Bedrooms had no aircon. Seemed to be some discrimination going on as some selected stayers mainly male from what I could tell, were being told we have moved you to the ground floor to keep you cooler. I was on the top floor. Using a qr code to read menu is a nightmare. Food was ok.
