Super 8 by Wyndham Thunder Bay

Bed was comfy but I’m not positive all the bedding was clean.

Everything felt dirty. All the carpeting throughout smelled awful. Full of sand. We stayed in room 228, very dirty. The floor wasn’t washed, the washroom sick was gross (my mother mentioned). I even stayed an extra night to show my mother around TB. It was over priced for what we got. We didn’t even have cable tv to watch. Only recorded Roku was TERRIBLE. It was the only available room in all on TB. I would not stay there again.

Easy stop on a cross-country drive

The air conditioner is too close to bed and blows over bed. Not enough bedding - one sheet. I ended up being sick for 2 weeks. When I made reservations, I was confirmed for a pet friendly room on ground floor but when checking in I had to pay $25.00 extra for the pet friendly room plus $20.00 for the pet. The charges are not posted and I don’t care for the surprise charges. I didn’t book this place on my return trip.

The bed was comfortable, the room had every basic appliance and furniture that you may need.

We had mold on the shower wall in the bathroom. Also rather poor wi-fi quality.

Far Off the hwy, sub par breakfast

It was a good place to spend night on my road trip especially for the price I paid. Bed was good. Air conditioning was good. Washroom was clean.

Location is getting progressively sketchier. Homeless people wandering the parking lot and looking in cars. Unbelievably expensive for a 2-star hotel in a questionable area with no working wifi or TV.

I chose Super 8 due to its reputation.

At every booking, I sent a request for a ground floor room due to disability. Though I had correspondence come from the hotel to me in the same string, at check in I was told no request had been received. Only after my husband became assertive was a ground floor option offered. No disclosure about any room concerns was included. We had to call the front desk in the early evening as the toilet was overflowing. Someone came with a plunger but was unable to properly use it. My husband then proceeded to do so and clean the floor. We then had wet towels in our bathtub from the backup. The man left commenting if we had further trouble he might need to find us another room. No follow up was made. In the morning, the option of a shower was of course off the list as the tub was no longer clean. At checkout I handed in the keys and the comment made was " Have a good Day". I asked if the hotel was open to feedback and shared. I remain waiting to hear from the Manager. I am certainly not holding my breath.

the front staff person was very helpful. Rooms a good size.

we are retired seniors and not having an elevator was challenging, although the front staff person did offer to help. We were travelling with an enclosed trailer and the parking lot is cramped and limited. The continental breakfast was lacking in presentation and options.

The assistant manager was a blast to talk to. Very friendly and informed.

The price could have been a bit better. But most hotels are too expensive nowadays, so it's the best of the bunch

It's a bit of an older hotel and the second floor rooms are not as accessible as the first floor.

The staff were friendly.

The door frames looked like they were old and wasn’t sure how secure the locks were. I could hear every conversation in the hallway even when they were just talking normally. The fridge made such a terrible noise that I unplugged it so I could sleep. As an aside, carpet is not great for hotel rooms.

Not handicap accessible especially your ground floor rooms I specifically asked for a ground floor with parking and access. Got that but wasn’t expecting the mountain climbing experience of getting in the room. I use a cane and have limited mobility for such thresholds.

Noisy at night, charged me for a non pet room and wouldn't refund me for thst room. Ended up costing me 400 for 2 room when all I needed was one

I had had a long day of driving with my two cats and was hoping to find a comfortable, clean, and quiet room at the Super 8. The gentleman at the desk was great but the room I had booked wasn’t so stellar. It was right beside the noisy air vent outside and the mattress wasn’t clean - looked like possible bug evidence and some stains. I went and asked for a new room and was given a room on the front of the hotel. Both rooms seemed dark due to the dark grey paint used and dim lighting - not super inviting. The new room seemed somewhat cleaner but I think they should put the complete zip around mattress protectors on their mattresses. What was most concerning was the creepy men hanging around the end of the hotel beside the donut shop - smoking pot, hanging out around the rooms and cars. Didn’t seem like a great neighbourhood but I didn’t know this when booking. I double locked both doors and put a chair against the outside door because it didn’t seem too secure, even with the dead bolt - seemed also to let a lot of air in. The room was also noisy as the walls were very thin and I could hear lots of other guests, some of whom were very loud. You could also hear all the traffic. It was not a restful night for my cats and I. Probably wouldn’t stay here again nor recommend to anyone. The breakfast also didn’t look too stellar so I passed on that and just got out of there.

Apparently this hotel doesn’t allow locals to stay here. Didn’t know this until we showed up and didn’t say anything online. We were able to pay for the hotel online in advance. It should say so on their website. I’ve never heard of that. Guy at front desk said he would make an acceptation just this once.

Looks like hotel has been recently refurbished. Perhaps room was designed as a two bedded room, only a king bed, which was ok, but big empty space in room. Very clean and tidy. Could upgrade coffee machine, eg Keurig and also shower head ancient.Drive up room, parking right outside. Limited number of pet rooms available. $20 fee, We’ll stay again, very good experience.

The hotel was fairly clean, and the bed was comfortable. Location was convenient for our travels. The continental breakfast was quite sufficient. We had a comfortable stay at the hotel.

I can't say the hotel was convenient for someone with mobility issues. The elevator was not working, but luckily our room was on the first floor. One door of our room led out to the parking lot which I had a bit of difficulty navigating (i use a cane and am unsteady) as it was a ledge and a step down. Not a problem for most people perhaps. TV kept cutting out. I also wasn't impressed with their vending machines. I used my debt card unsuccessfully and am waiting for a refund from the vending machine company. When I spoke to the front desk fellow, he wasn't overly concerned and said the machines were very picky.

Hotel is in a great location, close to restaurants and for breakfast, the iconic Kangas Sauna and Restaurant for Finnish pancakes. (Yum yum) Room was comfy, clean and very quiet. Would gladly stay here again.

There is no elevator to access the second floor so you're stuck carrying your bags upstairs
