Beautiful old building, location was perfect so close to the shops. Sky bar at the top of the building where breakfast was served with great views. We had our evening meal in the hotel restaurant ‘The Pickled Sprout’ and the food was excellent and staff very friendly and courteous. The restaurant was very beautiful and we enjoyed that. There is more than one lift which was great for such a large hotel. We managed to get a parking space on the hotel car park which was perfect for £15 per night but personally I think hotel car parking should be free. Overall we enjoyed our stay.
Very loud noises from outside under our window at 12 o’clock at night which went on for half an hour and woke us up. We were on the back of the hotel and when I looked out there was a huge van which was either unloading or loading things into the hotel. The banging was terrible and sounded like metal barrels or metal cages being moved. The bed for us was too firm but that is just a personal choice, it probably suits other people. Because of these issues we didn’t sleep very well. Would have preferred table service at breakfast instead of buffet style.
Convenient and excellent all round
Nice old hotel in a brilliant location. Good value for money
Very comfortable bed, slept well
Small bathroom felt very claustrophobic
Breakfast was good. Loved the room the breakfast was in, great views
Would have liked more choice of pastries. But that’s such a minor point
My single room (318) was tiny but had everything I needed. The housemaids did an excellent job of my room each day. The location is great with an easy walk to the train station and the huge bus station
location was great
room 114 is a boiling hot room without any aircon and not easy to get too up and down stairs, one tiny window that wouldn't open fully, very noisy room - 6.am listening to the kegs being rolled away was the highlight.
All staff encountered were extremely helpful and friendly
Parking
Lovely friendly staff, bright clean rooms, excellent location and great value.
Carpets getting tired in the breakfast area, ready for a refresh.
Excellent location. Beautiful decor in the bar and restaurant. Friendly staff.
The duvet and pillows were cheap and uncomfortable which was a shame as the bed was very comfortable.
Beautiful hotel, great location, fabulous breakfast and comfortable beds

Delicious breakfast, Lovely staff
Sadly, we had a few issues with our stay. Although the rooms were clean, one of them strangely had an iron-shaped mark on the carpet. There was also an issue with multiple lorries pulling up throughout the night which disturbed our sleep: at 12:45am, 4:45am, and 6:00am. However the greatest issue was a health and safety incident when checking out. Of the two lifts, one was out of order and the other was continuously occupied as it can only hold two people at a time. So our group had to use the stairs. As my 87 year old grandmother reached the last few stairs, she tripped on the carpet and fell face-first onto the marble lobby floor. The handrail ended before the last few steps so she had no way to stop herself falling, which seems very unsafe especially in a hotel where guests may be carrying luggage up and down the stairs. She suffered a nosebleed and, following review at hospital, was discovered to have broken her knee and bruised much of her lower legs. As a result, the rest of our holiday was affected and my grandmother is still suffering from her injuries. The staff were very good and jumped to her aid, providing water and first aid. But it could have been so much worse - even fatal - if she had fallen differently.
Breakfast in the wonderful Sky Bar was v good. Lovely staff found us a quieter room in the restaurant.
Parking a bit hit and miss. Managed to find somewhere near with our Blue Badge.
It was clean and friendly
The parking was bad, and the breakfast was cold on both days
Comfortable room, good facilities and clean. Polite and pleasant staff throughout
Parking limited particularly at the weekend
comfortable bed
room was very hot and stuffy, making sleep difficult, check in staff were not very welcoming, at check out no question were asked about "how was your stay" again very blunt. says hotel has a carpark, it does not, it had a few spaces outside that they charge £15 for.
Position
Expensive for a fairly ordinary package. Noisy room from traffic and creaking floors from neighbours. Light from sign and rad disturbed sleep.
Room had no windows and was very hot which impacted our sleep. We have provided feedback to the hotel and resolved

Great location, room & decor. Staff are very helpful & friendly.
Inflated bar prices.

Parking. Lack thereof. Location of first room. Heat in second room. Noise from outside in first room
Good location
Room was very hot. Shower pressure was poor. Bed was against the wall so was hard for my wife to get out. Banging at 7:30 in the morning which lasted for around 20 mins.
Excellent hotel, only place we stay on our frequent Harrogate trips. Great rooms and The Pickled Sprout is spot on for food and drink.
Can't really think of anything
Omg! How squashed are the rooms and facilities inside them. Loud air conditioning unit buzzing all evening
I requested a bath tub on two occasions. Got to the room to find out how small it waa
Breakfast was ok.
On arrival you are met with a very strong smell of fish. No parking available. They say limited parking but this is just for disabled parking. We then had to move the car to a multi storey and walk to the hotel. The room was like a furnace, window would only open about 4 inches two rickety fans where already in the room. The bathroom stank of drains, the beds where the most uncomfortable I have ever slept in. Our window view was out onto rubbish bins and staff smoking area where they shout and swear.
The Hotel was central, we were upgraded to a deluxe room had very spacious. Staff were friendly and helpful on arrival.
The water pressure to the shower was very poor water only coming out of four holes on the shower head, staff talking outside our room next to the breakfast bar at about 6.30 am. Strange noise from the pipes in the wall that continued at 6.40 both mornings. The WiFi was non existent on all our devices. The parking outside the hotel was good but £30 for two nights I think is a bit steep!
Although I'd booked aa small double, the room and especially the bathroom were quite a bit bigger than expected. The location was great.
Sometimes. only one lift was working. The one working had a capacity of two which was less than ideal. Once the other lift was repaired, it was much bigger and appropriate.
General feel of the place, good location, nice restaurant adjoining. Lovely breakfast room upstairs. Rooms were nicely decorated. Staff very helpful.
Parking was crowded and expensive. Useful to have the overspill option in the multi storey. That worked out cheaper.
Great staff and plenty of them. Great food. Excellent breakfast with no fuss Coffee! Great to see the percolators in use.
Minor point but could not switch off the towel rail in the bathroom which was not needed
Location
Staff could of been more welcoming on arrival
Location in Harrogate very central. White company toiletries in bathroom Clean and housekeeping were amazing, servicing rooms everyday View over the park from room on level 1
Very dark and dingy hotel. Everything painted shades of dark grey. Very oppressive. Noise - was a particular issue, one evening gone 11 and we had to go down to receptions and ask for the bar staff to turn music down as they turned it up. Reception were very blaze, they actually told us they had finished shift and turned music up. This happened on various evening. Noise loudest after 11.
We were told breakfast would be available in the room and it wasn’t, also we were not made aware that there was a time limit on room service so when we tried to order food at 9.30 we were unable meaning we didn’t eat that night. Disappointed
Large Rooms very spacious.
We had to change rooms as the one allocated was not up to standard. The Room was very hot even though there was a fan provided. The Duvet's are for winter and not summer
Excellent location. Very clean room. Polite staff.
The shower in our room didn't have great water pressure.
Great location and room was clean and spacious enough
Reception staff were very unwelcoming and unfriendly. Three staff behind the desk ignored us when we arrived to check in, all busy looking at computers. When we were told that we need to take the stairs to get to our room we weren’t asked if we needed help with our luggage etc. On check out, the same thing smile or thanks for staying or was everything okay etc.
Central location was great. Food was good. Bed was comfortable. Everywhere was clean.
No covering on the bathroom window. With the light on it felt very uncomfortable. Booking.com have breakfast listed as £13.95 available at the property but we were charged an extra £2 per person as we didn’t book breakfast in advance. This is not great customer service.
Great hotel. Fab location. Jo on reception great. But the bin removers woke us at 7 am with excruciating noise for 20 minutes. Joe and a lady were great and moved us. But we had to go out for 5 hours before we could get the next room which isn’t ideal when you’ve paid for 2 nights. I also have Ms and had no where to rest when I needed due to that. They gave me a birthday card which was a nice touch x
The smell of the drains and the bin lorry incident
Excellent location, very clean. Good breakfast, Pickle & Sprout restaurant is a must visit.
Not much! Just a couple of annoyances like no hooks in the bathroom or shelf to put gels, shampoo etc when showering.
I feel the reception staff to be very polite, housekeeping are very friendly and good at what they do, breakfast team very polite and what a great setting for breakfast, the views of Harrogate in the skybar was certainly breathtaking. My stay was short but very relaxing, my meal in pickle sprout was amazing too. So thank you for my stay.
Everything was good.
Loved the location. It was very clean. Friendly reception staff and easy parking in front of the hotel. Our room was excellent. The bed was comfy and the separate seating area was great. Breakfast in the morning was also good. Lots of variety and the coffee was decent. Loved the view from the 5th floor.
The view from our room wasn't great but we weren't in during the day.
Excellent location for the town and surrounding attractions. Easy train journey into York.
Nothing. Everything was great.
Central location, friendly staff, on site bar and restaurant (The Picked Sprout) good bar and restaurant. Rooms clean.
Not a lot of parking
Breakfast was very good, location was good, all staff and restaurant very good , room was clean and tidy with a good view
We were in room 409 and just before 6 every morning we were woken by a loud whining noise that continued for hours we we think was from above our room this did disturb and spoil both our mornings The largest lift was defective which did cause some problems getting up to 4th floor but realise this was out of the hotels control
Lovely hotel. Great location.
Surroundings and location
Very nice hotel, lovely room, friendly staff
Paying for parking
Room big although starting to look a little tired. Bed big and comfy . Breakfast buffet very good and plenty . Central for everything and only a five minute walk to train station.
Pressure in shower very poor.
breakfast was lovely - room great staff amazing
the lift was out of order
Good, spacious room with a view over the road to a park and to Betty's tea room. Comfy bed with quality bedding, plenty of towels. Breakfast was good with plenty of choices and very nice fresh fruit available.
Parking is limited and on the service road in front of the hotel. The reception staff were not welcoming at all; the whole entrance area is very gloomy as it is shades of grey and black. One of the two lifts was out of order and only takes two people at a time (I don't know how a guest with a lot of luggage would cope). Even the staff were complaining about the broken down lift as it had been out of service for a week - there is no service lift.
Location, room.
This hotel is not a 4 star in my opinion, there is no safe or fridge in the room, the carpets in the dining room and bar on the 5th floor are disgustingly dirty, 1 of the lifts was not working, so waiting long times.
Great location. Lovely building. Restaurant and bar were very nice.
Far too hot in the rooms. Window opened but then we heard the bins being emptied during the night! Thought I had missed bin collection day having read other reviews, but forgot it was BH so a day later! Tired!
Great location.
Junior suite was poor, had to move rooms
Clean rooms location 👍
Well situated.
I chose this property as the photo showed a bath which I wanted however was given a room with a shower. We were above a bar/restaurant which played loud music all evening making watching tv and then sleep difficult.
Perfect, central location
The location is great. Room was quite spacious. Parking (for a fee) right out front if you’re lucky.
The rooms are quite cheaply redecorated with modern generic furniture which looks a bit out of place in such an old traditional hotel. The bathroom has a small shower cubicle. We had a high floor and the water pressure was barely more than a trickle.

Nothing
Location, garden room, sky bar, having a balcony, street at the back of hotel and the character of the place
Carpet on 5th floor looks like it needs cleaning or replacing
Great central location. Friendly staff, good breakfast and clean hotel. Good 2 night rate.
Room was very warm (even with window slightly open and aircon fan on).
Breakfast was very good, with views from the restaurant.
The only small lift (2 people only) was a waist of time. I am unable to clime stairs due to my Vertigo..We had to wait 15 minutes before a empty lift appeared for us to depart then they expected us to Queue just to hand over the door key. The daily "car parking charge" of £15 was too much.
The staff, location and food is all great.
I stayed in a single room which was cramped and very expensive. Also there was no access to the WiFi network at all.
Lovely staff and clean room. Good breakfast
The superior room bed is basically two single mattresses pushed together. This leaves a very uncomfortable strip of edges right in the middle of the bed. Surely a mattress cover or foam cover would cover this and lead to a better sleep.
Stayed lots of times and love the hotel and Harrogate. Rooms are simple but clean and comfortable.
Noise from the room above was relentless and the ceiling just didn’t seem to be soundproofed even slightly. Breakfast has been downgraded to just buffet style again rather than the choice from before.
We loved that room, it was comfortable. The breakfast was good, also the staff was so nice. The location is amazing!
- First day they did clean our room while we were having breakfast. After that day we expected to be this way, but it didn't. We went into the city for a while and it wasn't made when we came back. They sent us a paper about it can be done and give a call if we need something. It wasn't a big thing but it added to our review. - I asked the hotel one month before our trip asked a package delivery. I was so happy they said it can be delivered into the hotel. They got my package, and it was on the reception for a while but it went missing later. It couldn't be found. I'm so sad because it was my and my friend's order from a local shop. They were looking for it everywhere, and they really made the effort but it wasn't there anymore. They paid the exact price for my package and it was so positive. I had one more package and it was delivered while we were there, it went smoothly.
Grate loktion
Great location very central. Lobby was well decorated.
Staff unhelpful. Room not as pictured, needed some TLC in decoration. Smaller than the deluxe room photographed, bathroom especially was hard to turn around in.
The hotel was good but the early check in fee I paid to booking.com had bit been forwarded to the hotel. Although the room was already cleaned and free (room 200) at 1pm the hotel staff would not let us check in despite knowing my husband was disabled. Poor decision making and customer service and I need a refund from booking.com. I have sent an e mail but not had a reply.
See above- poor service on this occasion
The location was excellent, room large and comfortable. Staff were very helpful and friendly.
We stayed in room 401 a very comfortable large room with a good walk in shower but the shower had low water pressure. The room location was close to the lift but very quite.
The lifts were not very efficient and only took two people at a time. The shower was nice but poor water pressure
Breakfast was okay Have kidney disease But the chef did his best
More fresh fruit
Great central location for Harrogate
The cozy room is just that.the bathroom was like a lift in size. If u want a sleep in forget it.the saff knock on doors to clean very early and will wake you up.
Great location
Sparsity of bathroom items . Just a single dispenser of shampoo/ body wash!
Lovely hotel to stay in
Hotel clean and tidy not enough staff on in the bar / restaurant long waiting time
Our room was tidy but view not so good looking over back yard where keep bins , the bin men came empty them 6 in the morning two the bins are bottle bins so the noise horrendous and smell from bins not good
Very well presented
Lift not working
Everything was clean, staff were friendly and the breakfast was good.
The shower cubicle is so big, water pressure is poor and the size of the shower head is small. Had to unhook shower head to get wet by waving it all over the body. Room a little small but for 1 night stay its fine and there is no where to put phone, glasses or bottle of water on one side of the bed.
Location
I stayed 4 nights, the lift was broken for 4 days Smaller lift was operating but only held 2 people at a time so if a lot of people waiting it took a long time get on it. I had to wait 15 minutes for one.
Location is absolutely perfect for centre of Harrogate. Nice large bedroom and lovely bed.
The tiny lift which only fits 2 people, and although there are 2 of them in the hotel, only one of them actually worked whilst we were there.
Location central.
The room was tiny. The bed was so small I couldn’t lie straight with my feet hitting the wall. The bathroom I could hardly turn around in. The noise from the bars behind went on late and the deliveries started very early.
Fantastic hotel in the heart of Harrogate. Very large and spacious room on 4th floor which was very peaceful. The reception team were so helpful and always on hand to answer any questions
Breakfast good lifts poor
The breakfast was great all food I tried was tasty.
The view from the room was all the industrial wheelie bins and the emptying of them started around 5am including glass bottles so woke me up.
Fantastic location for all the local shops, restaurants etc and a short walk to the train station if you want to get a train to York, which is only a 30min journey.
Location good
Parking advertised but staff rather grumpily ssid it was for blue badge holders only then sent me gound in circles to a multi storey with very dodgey pedestrian access avd mikes away given I have mobility problems and problems with streps Right next to a church - bells rang for ages then stopped then started again. Everything is grey and plastic tiles so not recycle able material. Felt like I was in a cupboard - luckily bathroom almost the same size.
Good location, lovely building
Our room was like a furnace , really uncomfortable all night, weren’t able to change as apparently hotel was fully booked, in my opinion..these rooms should not be booked out that suffer with heat transfer from pipes in the building! Not sure how other people would get on in these rooms, especially elderly or people with medical conditions as I’ve never experienced anything like it. We were offered a bucket of ice by reception but not sure how this would have helped us. We ended up having a very sleepless night which totally ruined our stay and no resolution from the hotel!
Very clean, Friendly staff, great choice of breakfast
The towel rail was on full, room became unbearably hot. Staff finally figured how to turn it off. Only one lift working for a busy hotel, Only working lift as maximum of 2 people not ideal with lots of people checking out at the same time with lots of luggage.
I was astonished when paying for a meal at the Yorkshire to discover the optional gratuity (12.5 o/o) include 4.5 o/o which is for the maintenance of the Grade 2 listed building, I expressed my displeasure at this ridiculous attempt to extort money and did not make a contribution to that element of the service charge.
Loved it. That's why I keep going back there.
A lovely building, staff friendly, clean and great location.

Good location
Poor expensive parking Very poor room experience, very hot and stuffy, was not lift accessible, up stairs down stairs, bit like faulty towers. Window was a joke, opaque glass because the view was of utilities cables vents, viewed through the lower bit which opened about six inches, it provided the only ventilation which didn't help much. The bed was a very small double Staff experience was mixed and generally unhelpful
The property was in a central location within very close distance of all facilities.
Whilst we were aware parking was limited and available on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis’, we were disappointed with our experience. We arrived around 8.30am (we had travelled around 2.5hrs) and we found only one space available but had a cone inside so my husband went into reception to ask if he could move it. The staff member was quite abrupt and rude and told him if a cone was in place then it couldn’t be moved and was advised guests would be checked out by 11.30am and if a space was free to take it. We parked at the end of the road as we wouldn’t be there long and went back around 9.30am to find a car leaving so we occupied the space. It was too early to check in so we went around Harrogate and went back to the hotel around 2.30pm to check in. When we mentioned the space as they asked for the number the staff told us that we could not park there as the space was already preoccupied. We were very confused by this and explained the space became free so we parked in it. The staff explained that once a car occupied the space it was theirs for the duration of the trip so if they went out of the hotel in the car it was still their’s. We explained that this was not explained to us when my husband went into reception earlier, and that we had occupied the space all morning. The staff gave us alternative parking 5 minutes away so we moved the car. After we had been for dinner that evening we walked past the space and saw a different car had occupied the space, not the one originally in it, so we moved our car for nothing. It was frustrating as we specifically chose this hotel for the chance to park there and as our trip was more than one night, we had to keep returning to the alternative car park to add on an additional 24 hours. Whilst not the end of the world, we do think the hotel should have a better system for the car park situation to avoid any confusion.
Loved the building excellent bedroom huge bed and so immaculate. Staff were lovely and polite. Excellent spot near to town and lovely gardens.
I didnt dislike anything
Location, nice room
Lovely old building with lovely room & views if you have a room facing onto The Stray.
