The rooms The Bar The Staff The ambience
Breakfast was really good, lots of choice and delicious. The staff in the hotel were all excellent, really friendly and professional. The room overlooked the sea/port and was a good size with a balcony. If there was a negative of any kind it was that the bathroom was a little small, having said that the shower was wonderful, but definitely didn't take two at the same time. The bedding was as requested and the room was very quiet and had good zircon. The outside pool was lovely.
See above about size of bathroom.
Location Staff
Room and bed too small
Zentrale Lage. Alles gut zu erreichen. Das Personal war Max entgegenkommend und freundlich
Location, and bed was very comfortable
Old fashioned, in need of some serious TLC, facilities and service did not represent a five star hotel
A beautiful and historic hotel with A1 service one would expect from a 5 star hotel. We were well looked after from the moment we arrived to the moment we checked out. The staff are amazing and there is great attention to detail. We sadly did not have time to take advantage of all the facilities but what we experienced was top. The breakfast was amazing. We will definitely stay again.
Merveilleux hôtel, un excellent confort, avec un niveau de service exceptionnel.
Tout était parfait.
A wonderful stay in a beautiful property made extra special by the staff. We had such a fabulous time at the OGH, from the welcome, thank you Ranganai, to the food, knowledgable staff, excellent tour of the wine cellar and insights into mixology from Jeffrey and Dave and just an amazing place, full of surprises, gorgeous art work and antiques. We have stayed in hotels all over the world and I can absolutely say the OGH is my favourite. I can't possibly name all of the staff who made our stay so fabulous but to name a few others, Mimi, Ryan, Alessandro the servers in the Curry room and most certainly all the back-room people, the rooms and public areas were immaculate retaining the air of tradition and country house grandeur, the food from breakfast through snacks and amazing dinners were out of this world. Thank you all so much, we will be back so that we can explore more of this fabulous island from a perfect base.
L’hôtel est magnifique, le personnel adorable, chambres confortables, le chic à l’anglaise, le petit-déjeuner incroyable. La situation dans Saint-Pierre Port.
The quality of the hotel design and interiors. The staff were exemplary specially the restaurant staff. Cleanliness. Rare to experience such service standards.
The room was a little too small and hard to move around with bags. No laundry prices was odd.
Bon emplacement, personnel serviable, belle vue, belle piscine et très beau jardin.
Clim bruyante et inefficace. Salle de bains petite.
Personeel is erg vriendelijk
Staat van het hotel, oud. Classic kamer heeft een twijfelaar als bed. Te klein voor twee volwassenen.
Well it’s not often I say it , especially if you have read any of my other reviews , This hotel is spot on , just returned from a 4 day stay , The food , the staff , the cleanliness of the hotel 1st class , the management run a very well organised machine , never had to wait for service anywhere , the staff were very polite and helpful, a special mention to Paul behind the bar , such a happy pleasant guy even when very busy . A few points to make , it’s up a fairly steep hill from the port , don’t be fooled by a short 3 mile taxi ride it will set you back £20-25 from the airport. Around the pool is lovely but quite small so abit of sunbed hogging goes on which is a shame . Fantastic restaurants all over the Port , even use the hotel the evening meal was lovely too .
Amazingly wonderful staff! Excellent location! Beautiful and clean accommodations and common areas. We will be back!
Our 1st visit to Guernsey was for our golden wedding anniversary. The OGH hotel made it superb with their excellent personal service, facilities and restaurants. It is an old building so the 60 rooms are all very individual. The Brassery Restaurant was very good - eat in the conservatory or out in the garden for breakfast or lunch. Evening tends to be inside with open windows. Good choices of food, all very good, superb service. Lovely bar which does make good cocktails and friendly service inside or out. There is also a bar menu but we did not try that. The Governor's Room Curry House was fine dining curry with a south african twist. Superb food, wine and service. The concierge service is very helpful and managed to book us into the Victor Hugo tour (ensure you get an english tour and book well in advance) and the TukTuk tour which were all really good. We also took a ferry trip over to Herme. The small swimming pool is set in lovely private gardens with sunbeds, towels and free flavoured water. Wonderful pool side service. A few minutes walk to Candie gardens which are worth a visit. 10 minutes walk down the hill into St Peter Port sea front or shopping streets. All in all, a superb hotel and visit. We will return.
Prachtig hotel in mooie klassieke stijl! Enorm vriendelijke medewerkers die continu hun best doen om het je naar de zin te maken!

Location, Staff Efficiency and Courteous. Atmosphere.
Nothing
I thought it hadn’t exceptional team there, everyone made you feel so welcome.
Stairs ! I think need to make customers aware when it’s one of the back Far rooms
Fantastic staff, great location and excellent food
First class service. Attentive, friendly and thoughtful staff throughout our 7 night stay. Very relaxing stay in Guernsey
Nothing. Was all very stunning
lovely staff and nice property
drinks were quite pricey in comparison to rest of island and not very nice
Location is fantastic and staff are amazing.
Unfortunately whilst there the main restaurant was being refurbished.
Another fantastic stay at the OGH at the beginning of July. Couldn’t wait to return for our fifth stay and nothing disappointed us. Welcomed like old friends with a glass of our favourite wine, set the scene for another fabulous holiday. Room overlooking the pool towards the sea front. Breakfasts are the best we ever have in a hotel and we were lucky enough to able to eat outside every day. Andrew we have to say again you have a great team, nothing is too much trouble and we are very grateful to you all. Have to give a special mention to Alessandro, Alice and Siya in the restaurant, Dave in the bar and of course Roberto, Kris and Josh. And you too Andrew, I wish more managers went the extra mile like you. Will be returning in October with our friends.! Thank you again. Julie.
Couldn’t fault the staff but the rooms are lacking something and feel a little tired. We stayed in a classic double but then moved to another. We moved because I struggled with the shower in the first room having mobility issues. The second room was bigger but seemed tired and the seating was inadequate, the air conditioning didn’t work to start with but was fixed after a couple of days. The bathroom basin was cracked and the shower head didn’t stay where it was put. I looked at the classic doubles on the web site and they didn’t reflect what we had. The website shows very big spacious rooms and if we hadn’t been moved I would have checked out and sought alternative accommodation.
A delightful hotel with the best service that we have ever had! Location is very central in St Peter’s Port and a 5 minute walk to the port. Offloading our car outside the hotel was easy and the hotel concierge then moved our car into the awkward hotel car park. Warm welcome at reception alongside a very welcome glass of Prosecco and a quick guided tour of the hotel facilities. Room itself was lovely, clean and well kept with good air conditioning. Large bed which was exceptionally comfortable. Room was also well attended each day we were there (3 nights). There was a shower over the bath which was not ideal and clothes storage was limited. Room and en-suite probably needs a bit of updating. First night we dined in the Curry Room. Again service exceptional. Curries were delicious. Breakfasts were served in the Brasserie restaurant and on the adjoining patio. Wide selection of food available from the buffet including fresh fruit, cereals, pastries and juices. Hot food was ordered at the table and included a good selection of options. The welcome and service by the staff at breakfast was delightful. One afternoon we opted for the Date Night offer. This included 90 minute massages for us both and a choice from the set menu from the Brasserie. The massages were excellent and the food from the Brasserie was again delicious. Again accompanied by exceptional service. Public areas in the hotel were very comfortable and included a bar area adjacent to the Brasserie restaurant. There was also an outside pool with a handful of sunbeds. Service from the bar was excellent. Finally, for our final morning we had to leave early (before breakfast). The hotel provided a delightful takeaway breakfast which we enjoyed when our ferry got to Jersey.
Wonderful, friendly staff. Great location and facilities. The food was excellent as was the service and very reasonably priced for a 5* hotel. Really good for gluten free food. Spa staff were very knowledgeable and professional. They made my mum’s 80th birthday very special.
Fabulous hotel with swimming pool. Friendly and professional staff. Lovely breakfast.
Accueil du personnel tres chaleureux et aux petits soins. La visite de l'hôtel avant de prendre possession de la chambre L'accueil avec une boisson de notre choix
Ras
Although I didn’t stay at the hotel I booked a 90 minute aromatherapy massage in the spa. Susan was my masseuse who I cannot praise highly enough. When I go away I always treat myself to a massage but this one completely topped all the rest. The ambience is calming and oozing luxury but I must credit Susan’s amazing ability foremost. Please request this lady - she is phenomenal. So much so that I’ve booked another one before I return home on Friday!
Location
My husband and I stayed at The OGH from in July. We had one of our most favourite holidays ever. We had reserved a king size bedroom with a balcony and the room was light and spacious. The views of the islands was incredible. The hotel is beautiful and the facilities excellent. The food was out of this world and the fish dishes in particular were an absolute favourite of ours. The attentiveness of the staff is exceptional and nothing is ever too much trouble. The staff actually treated us like family and remembered us from the previous year. It would be wrong to mention just one member of staff so I have mentioned several in this email. Firstly, Kris, is a great manager. He clearly has high expectations of his staff and his manner and friendliness very much sells your hotel. He was supported by Roberto with his wide smile and his happy disposition which made us feel so welcomed every day. In the restaurant, we were looked after by Pamela, Tendayi and Alessandro who advised on dishes brilliantly, served us with friendliness and a sincere smile. They made every dinner experience a pleasure. We had only booked to eat an evening meal once at your brasserie; however, after a delicious fish supper, we cancelled the other restaurants we had booked on the island to visit and chose to eat at your restaurant each night. Stewart helped around the hotel, taking our bags and taking us to our room. He was so helpful and so friendly and his chattiness was welcomed each day. And lastly, but definitely not least, Sujith, attended to our room each day always leaving us with a beautiful creature made out of towels. The room always looked fantastic when we came back in after a long day and we were curious as to what lovely swan or elephant maybe sitting on our bed. This is a fantastic hotel and definitely has become one of the highlights of our year. We’re looking forward to next year already.
Such a great hotel where we only wish to spend more time
The shower floor has to be chamged. The service in the restaurant is too slow
Breakfast was excellent. The hotel generally,
The restaurant could have had some more plain dishes on the menu. It was rather expensive. We only used it once for dinner and there was a lot of choice of venues in St. Peter Port.
The property has high end furnishings and touches, and is very well maintained. The breakfast has a very wide selection of cooked dishes. Staff are helpful and friendly.
Great location.
Would choose a suite next time as room small and bathroom so tiny only one person could fit in it and that one person had to walk in a certain way to close the door
First time visit to Guernsey and we stayed at the OGH to celebrate my 60th birthday ( hubby was also 60 but at the beginning of June ) We stayed for 10 nights. we were welcomed with a glass of bubbles and shown around the hotel after booking in, our cases were sent up to our room ready for when we went up, the air con was lovely as very hot when we got there. The staff were all very helpful and a big shout out to “T” and Pamela, also thank you to the chef as Pamela asked him to speak to us about getting some spider crab, edible crab and whole fish as not on the menu which he did and it was lovely ( hopefully I can send some pics ). My birthday breakfast was brilliant, bunch of flowers on the table, some Buck’s Fizz and a bottle of champagne ( flowers ordered by hubby ) And lots of birthday wishes from all the staff. The food was excellent in the hotel and lots of tables in the gardens to sit in the shade or the sun with a cold glass of wine or a cocktail. Thank you Sianna for keeping us fed and watered while we lazed by the pool and made sure everyone had enough towels, also a cold glass of wine by the pool is a must.
A wonderful hotel and a great birthday stay - so welcoming. Room with a view and so comfortable
Staff service
Not much maybe could do with an update in parts
From the moment we arrived at the OGH we felt welcomed and truly relaxed. Our room, 111, was excellent, comfortable and spacious with perfect air conditioning which was so necessary as we were staying during the recent heatwave when Guernsey enjoyed its hottest day ever. All the OGH staff we encountered during our stay, whether in the restaurants, around the pool or just around the hotel in general were super friendly and accommodating. We reserved a gin tasting experience and this turned out to be a throughly enjoyable and enlightening experience. the bar tender who conducted the tasting, was knowledgeable and interesting to talk with, we definitely learned a few things to try out at home, we even bought one of the local gins included in the tasting from duty free at the airport. We will recommend the OGH to anyone we know thinking of taking a holiday in St Peter Port and we hope to return ourselves at some point.
Full buffet breakfast with more to order. Food excellent throughout - also the option of a curry in the Governors Room Location was perfect - the main streets of St Peter's Port were just below but very quiet where we were. Wonderfully embracing service - Red Carnation have a hotel in South Africa and many of the staff were from there. Always friendly and interested in our day
Very hard to think how it could have been improved
Excellent location and the hotel is well appointed
We returned to OGH for our 40 th wedding anniversary having spent our honeymoon in Guernsey. We enjoyed 5 super relaxing days at this special hotel where we were warmly welcomed with some fizz and a dear little anniversary cake plate. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff from start to finish . All staff work hard to allow you to feel pampered and valued and importantly to feel relaxed . Our breakfasts and dinners were all absolutely delicious and we enjoyed our room with a view of the pool and out to the island of Herm . Special thanks go to Tanusha and Pamela in the breakfast area and Zana in the Governor’s restaurant. We felt this hotel has kept up its charm and character and continues to retain its 5 star qualities . Our room was kept spotlessly clean and the monogrammed bedding was superb! We hope to be back for future celebrations .. OGH has a special place in our hearts . Thank you to everyone.
We recently visited Guernsey for the first time, staying nine nights, at the OGH Hotel. Firstly, all the staff were fantastic. Everyone was cheerful, professional with a high level of customer service. We did find, on the odd occasion, in the bar area, that they were overstretched which led to a long wait to order a drink or food, but we could see that they were working flat out. The valet parking is a nice touch and our room was cleaned and tidied thoroughly every day. On returning to the hotel each time we had been out, we were always greeted warmly. Our king room had a very comfortable super king bed, was a good size overall and was well equipped. We were at the back of the hotel overlooking the kitchen area which, although slightly disappointing, was understandable as we hadn’t booked ‘a view’. There was a background hum from outside fans, but we didn’t really notice this after the first day or so. What we did feel, however, was that the room, being in this position in the hotel, should have been decorated in brighter colours or light, neutral tones, as those king rooms shown on the website are. Ours was all dark browns and dark beiges, with heavy brown curtains, making it feel unwelcoming and without a lot of natural light due to its position and net curtain over the bottom half of the window. It just didn’t make us feel 5 star and ‘uplifted’ each time we entered it, which was a shame. Breakfast in the Brasserie, which was light and airy, was excellent, with a wide choice, particularly of cooked options. We also ate several times in the bar area, the Olive Grove and the Brasserie, in the evening, and the food was very good. The pool area is sheltered with comfortable sun loungers, although these did get full, on occasion, as our weather was hot and sunny. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and the hotel clearly has a large, returning customer base, but it didn’t quite feel 5 star for us, mainly due to our room. Moving forward, I think thought needs to be given to how the hotel maintains the ‘old world, traditional charm and decor’ that many of the returning guests obviously love, balanced with making it feel fresher, lighter, brighter and updated in some areas.
This was our second holiday at the OGH to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Indeed, we noticed that there were a lot of Returners like us. The location is perfect for the town and its attractions, the bus station, and the ferry port that services all the Channel Islands. Upon arriving at the hotel, one is immediately greeted and looked after, and this attentiveness continued for the whole of our stay. All the staff were friendly, welcoming, and genuine, and provided exceptional service. Everyone remembered our names and the attention to detail was incredible. The atmosphere was one of joining a big family of staff and guests, where everything was possible. We felt like real VIPs throughout our stay. Our room was spacious, serviced daily, clean and tidy, and we enjoyed balcony seats with sea views of Herm and Sark, and the price was extremely competitive. The hotel has a beautiful warm outside pool and spacious area with sunbeds, chairs and tables, and pool facilities. It has made good use of the space available and there is a lovely olive terrace, garden and outside bar area. There is also an extensive spa and gym, which residents can use. The hotel is beautifully decorated and faithful to its heritage with lots of antiques, artwork, and moments of history shared throughout its lounges, public areas and guest rooms. As expected, the food was of a very high standard and quality, and well presented. Anyone who has a special diet is catered for. Our wedding anniversary dinner in Le Brasserie was exquisite. Both bars were well stocked, with lots of choice, and there are plenty of different areas to sit. The hotel offers several excursions and we booked 2 of them. We enjoyed an amazing Sunset, Fizz and Chips at Cabo Bay, attended to by the hotel butler and head concierge. It was simply a special and divine experience which will stay with us forever, and the sunset was spectacular too! We also booked the Sark Experience where we had our own private horse and carriage with a local guide for the day and this enabled us to visit most places on the island. We also had a huge Afternoon Tea at OGH which took us all afternoon to devour. Delicious! This hotel definitely lives up to its 5-star status. We will be back soon!
The staff were delightful, top to bottom, and could not do enough for us. Always happy and smiling.
Nothing
First thing to say is the staff are, almost without exception, terrific. My 3 rating is about the state of what claims to be a 5 star hotel. This is an old-fashioned hotel that is showing its age. We stayed in a seaview room with balcony. Seaview was there, but also view of a large flat roof. The room itself we found noisy - banging doors, one night a dog barking in the next door room. Around the hotel some carpets look worn; looking around the main restaurant, sills were dirty, the underside of chairs covered in dust. For a 5 star hotel today they may qualify on facilities but not on attention to detail and the right level of facilities cleaning and maintenance.
It’s a lovely hotel. Amazing staff and food.
Absolutely everything! We have stayed in 5 star hotels all over the world, I can honestly say, this hotel beat them all. Excellent service, fantastic food, staff are amazingly friendly and super helpful.
Nothing
Great location in the heart of St Peter’s Port with great staff and superb food
Fabulous ambience mainly due to exceptional staff
Room & bathroom rather small but everything else more than made up
The staff were exceptional. Always a smile nothing was too much trouble. And we really enjoyed the food
Nothing
This is the only 5 star rated hotel on Guernsey. It is well deserved, as the location is great (in the middle of town), the views over the harbour are amazing, the rooms are very comfortable, the food is exceptional but above all, the staff are superb! Nothing is too much trouble for them! Always smiling and very helpful!
We love this hotel. Although we had pre- booked to stay in another hotel in St Peter Port, this was our go to place every evening. The Staff greeted us like old friends , especially Ryan the barman and the Piano player . The ambience was warm and friendly. Next time we come to Guernsey we will definitely book to stay here. Thank you all at Old Govt House hotel for helping to make our visit to the beautiful island of Guernsey so memorable
The staff were exceptionally friendly and efficient. They were the reason that our stay was so enjoyable.
Our King Sea View Room had a great view but was slightly smaller than expected from the photographs and description - particularly the "comfortable seating area"
This is a really tough review to write as I have stayed here several times and loved it. However this time the whole experience felt far from 5 star. I have to say all of the staff were lovely, helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. Our room had a strong damp smell in the corner by the wardrobe and was quite dirty - I did take photos of headboard - full of dust , bottom of the wardrobe - full of dust and behind the TV awful . I didnt raise any of these during our stay as the hotel was full so we had no options to move. Our room was tiny for £400 per night and did have a sea view if you stuck you neck out of the window. Our room felt like it was only used when no other options were available. The carpet on the main stairs was worn away to the weave in the middle -not a 5 star hotel in my view. Yes it is convenient for town but in future I think we will look elsewhere. Sorry its negative but I feel as if I must be truthful but please look at my previous review to compare
Lovely old hotel , packed with history and in a great location. Food on the first night was really good but a little pricey , breakfast was also good on the first morning , however breakfast on the second morning was very much not up to standard , when the waitress removed my half eaten plate she asked if it was good , I replied just OK , and she smiled and removed my plate , was she listening , I don't think so . apart from that the staff were really professional , almost faultless . Room was ok , but very small but everything we needed
From start to finish of your stay you will be treated the most delightful welcome and excellent service levels If you are travelling with a car the valet service will park it for you in their hotel car park Your car is available to you through out the day on request from reception by the valet service. No charge is applied for this service. Rooms are tastefully decorated in the style that you would expect from a five star establishment The hotel is situated on a hillside from which you can view excellent views over St Peter Port The hotel has various restaurants and bars to choose from. the Brasserie offers daily meal service from breakfast until including a dinner service in the evening. The hotel also has an Indian restaurant which has a usual six tables in a small cosy room. Booking a table is advised as the food is prepared and served to a highly desirable taste sensation. To sum up if you are looking for something special and exceptional service look no further. A special mention from myself and I go out to an excellent member of the restaurant team. Pamela is an asset to this hotel. She has a great talent of delivering a great customer service. She was a delight to speak with and deserves a mention.
A beautiful hotel with everything you could ask for and more. The staff were outstanding and nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was also top class. So many wonderful breakout spaces to relax in and also stunning outdoor seating for afternoon tea or sundowners.
Nothing I didn't like
Location and people
The room cleaning had been poor There were lots of clothes moths and we had to move rooms We moved easily and with help but the moths are a problem and the cleaning really should deal with this
Brilliant breakfast - great choice and big selection of seating. We sat outside as weather was fantastic.
We had a superb stay at the Old Government Hotel and a special THANK YOU to Kris for all your help and organisation before we'd even arrived! The service we received from every member of staff throughout our stay was the best we’ve ever experienced. They couldn't do enough for you and were so friendly and kind. Breakfast was incredible, such a fantastic array of hot and cold food, either cooked to order or buffet style continental breakfast. Our room - on the second floor - was massive and so quiet. The bed was also huge, and SO comfy! We slept really well and nice to have a 'pillow menu'! And such a selection of teas, coffees and hot chocolate in the room. They have UHT milk as standard, but you can call room service to have fresh milk. Of course, we just HAD to test out the (heated) swimming pool. It was just perfect. We would have liked to have tried the whirlpools, but they were closed for cleaning. The hotel is in a central location, it takes about 3 minutes to walk into the High Street (downhill)! A bit more legwork required to get back to the hotel, quite a few steep roads to get back! I spotted a brilliant Travelzoo offer at this fabulous hotel, this is somewhere I had wanted to visit for SO long. As part of the deal, we enjoyed the two delicious meals in the hotel, one in the Brasserie restaurant, and the other in the Curry House. Just a word of warning - We were a little surprised at the drinks bill plus service charge and also when we checked out, there was a £10.00 per night for the room on the invoice. We weren't offered tap water when dining in the Curry House on our first night, but thought paying £6.00 for a bottle of still water was a little steep (the same bottles of water are handed out free in your room). I do appreciate we could have refused the service charge but feel it may have seemed a bit rude. Especially as the service and our stay was so amazing. I just wanted to mention it in case others are contemplating taking advantage of the Travelzoo deal, just be prepared to spend a little more. The additional costs probably added an additional £65.00-£75.00 on the overall holiday. However, we had a fantastic stay and we would love to visit again.
This is an amazing hotel. It definitely lives up to its 5 stars!
Great staff
L'établissement est magnifique, le personnel aux petits soins et les chambres très confortables. Très bonne table et très bon petit déjeuner.
Sa localisation, son confort, le service et la qualité de la cuisine.
Location and helpful staff
Dated and needs refurbishment. Couldn’t get anything to eat after 10.00. We asked at 10.10 to have a snack or chips etc in the bar and were told it was not possible. There were 18 of us having come back from and event.
The free drink on arrival. They kept our bags stored for the day when we checked out.
The jacuzzi’s were being cleaned on Sunday morning so we couldn’t actually use them, yet it was during the very limited spa opening hours. The cleaners were in the changing rooms hoovering so the relaxation room was equally out of bounds. Surely all this cleaning should be done prior to the 9am spa opening.. The room was tiny. Couldn’t walk around the bed. The armchair and carpet were both filthy. Bathroom in need of entire refurbishment. It was mouldy, the bath had a huge chip and the shower saturated the floor because the shower panel is too short. We had to call for new towels to soak up the water. I don’t know what the hotel deal is with booking.com but it’s not a good deal, I think they assign the worst rooms. We don’t recommend this hotel, it’s not worth the money.
Breakfast was had a good selection. The staff very accommodating and delightful.
Our room- The bathroom large window had NO blind within , plus bathroom curtain in small window could be renewed. (windows were obscured, but lighting within the bathroom at night, outside you would be able to make out a figure within)
The service from the staff - everyone was incredibly helpful, attentive & friendly, nothing too much trouble including Ranga delivering a fridge to our room. Tendayi was fantastic & took great care of us throughout our stay & 5 stars for Reuben for his enthusiasm & helpfulness, we felt so looked after, the breakfasts were lovely & we enjoyed relaxing by the pool. The staff are a real credit to the hotel.
Nothing although we didn’t like leaving .
Very attentive staff from them we arrived, sorting our car out, Reuben was very friendly & efficient showing us where everything was & made us feel welcome. Dinner in the restaurant was lovely as was breakfast.
The room was a bit snug but ok for one night, beware the heated towel rails, I got a nasty burn on my arm from briefly touching it when getting my towel, informed reception who were suitably concerned.
Beautiful hotel with old world charm. Some excellent members of staff but on occasions we had to wait a long time for service. Two nights running we had 45 minute wait for drinks before dinner. It may be because the start of the season so new staff, but with £10 per day extra tip per room plus service charge for food and drinks it did fall short on several occasions including forgetting towels in the room, replacing water with already opened bottles and getting a couple of orders wrong on food. Nothing that couldn't be easily resolved but with the additional service charges it felt like they set themselves up for exemplary service which sometimes fell short. Central location with lovely views though be warned it's up one of the many steep hills so those struggling with mobility might find access hard at times.
Staff were very friendly
The rooms look very tired and the lack of fridge in the room was annoyong
The staff are the best x
Location is really good and the afternoon tea is the best
Hotel and staff were first class
Great place to stay
Really comfortable. Spa and gym were a little tired but everything else was perfect.
The staff are first class. Some of the best service I’ve ever had. They were all AMAZING!!
I can't praise the OGH highly enough. We found the the hotel to be perfect in every way and it far exceeded our expectations. The room was beautifully furnished, comfortable and spotlessly clean and the special cakes/decorated plates that were made for my husband's birthday and retirement celebrations were a lovely surprise for him. The food was delicious, especially the extensive breakfast. We also enjoyed using the beautiful spa. But what made our stay extra special was the outstanding service we received from every single member of staff. They were extremely polite and friendly and we were surprised they even recognised us and addressed us by name when they saw us. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them and they made us feel like royalty for a few days :) Particular thanks go to Andrew, The General Manager, who came down to welcome us and made sure our requests were carried out. They have a very good team working there with highly qualified skills and they are a credit to the hotel. They made my husband's special occasion one we will never forget and we hope to return one day.
An amazing experience at the Old Government Hotel. It certainly lived up to its reputation. We were surprised to be upgraded to a sea view Queen room and the service from every member of staff was the best we’ve ever experienced. Breakfast was exceptional and by far the best we have experienced. Valet service for the car was pure luxury. Huge thanks to all the team. I would just comment that we are probably on a tighter budget than most and jumped at a Travelzoo offer at this fabulous hotel. Making sure we stuck to budget, we enjoyed the two wonderful meals within the deal but was a little shocked at the drinks bill plus service charge and also the checking out system of adding £10 per night for the room. Table water wasn’t offered and we are not used to paying £6 for a bottle of still water. I appreciate we could have refused the service charge but it would have seemed very rude to do so, after the wonderful service and experience we had. I only mention it in case others are in a similar position and take advantage of the travelzoo deal. The additional costs probably added an additional £60-£70 on the overall holiday. However, taking this into account, we will never forget the wonderful time we had and only raise this in case others need to take the additional expense into their costings for the travel zoo deal.
This hotel boasts it is the only 5 star hotel in Guernsey. The food is inded good and the staff (most of whom seem to be South African) are helpful and friendly. The room we had (an upgrade to get a king size bed) was pathetically small and we struggled to find space to get our two suitcases open. Heaven alone knows what the 'standard' room size is. Great location near the centre of town and valet parking (but allow 15 minutes for them to retrieve your car).
Wow what a stay from the moment we entered the hotel until the moment we left there has not been one person who did not make us feel welcome appreciated and valued your staff truly are a credit to you and your business I haven’t unfortunately managed to remember everyone we came into contact with so I will just add the specific names of Sindi & kris on reception Josh & Roberto Pamela and so many others in the restaurants and bars I honestly wish I had written everybody’s name down because our heartfelt thanks go out to them all for making our stay so very memorable I hope you pass these thoughts onto your staff who as I’ve stated truly are a credit to you
This is a lovely hotel. We were greeted with a glass of prosecco and advised we had been upgraded to a King room. The food was excellent we ate in The Brasserie and the Curry room both meals were first class. The breakfast had an unbelievable choice and everything was delicious. The staff throughout were courteous and helpful I would definately recommend this hotel and hope to return.
The OGH is an exceptional hotel experience with superb staff that pay attention to details! Prior to arrival I completed a preference survey & staff accommodated everything beyond expectations! Kris knew us the moment we checked in & Roberto gave us pro travel tips (we will be reaching out)! Jeffery is a master bartender & made us feel at home. Zama took care of us during on of the best Indian meals ever! Our room was beautifully appointed with a spectacular view of the water & oh my the bathroom! A true luxury experience. Before we left Kris gave us a copy of our favorite movie- The Gurnsey Potato Peel Soc!
Very friendly and attentive staff, they go above and beyond to help you and they have a great attention to detail
Shame the swimming pool is closed until April
The breakfast was not 5 star, but we only tried one breakfast - The omelet's were very dry and unappealing. Maybe just a bad choice... It took ages to check out, even though the bill was very simple. Maybe a new employee...
The rooms were tired (for a 5 star hotel) and in desperate need of refurbishment. Key issue, but maybe related to the stated shortage of trades on the island and the time it takes to get things done.
Perfect location. It was a very quiet Wednesday lunchtime in February so difficult to comment on the atmosphere. Good value for a 5 star hotel. Service was friendly and staff were very helpful. We even had a tour of the whiskey room! A very enjoyable experience.
From the time we arrived to the time we left the Hotel staff were so helpful, friendly. We had an early . Kris, the Manager sorted a room for us for early check in. which was very welcomed. We had our two chihuahuas with us, and we felt very looked after. Breakfast was fabulous , we will be returning for sure
Our stay at the OGH was exceptional. We were greeted by Kris, by our names and shown to our room and were made to feel very welcome. The first day we were there we toured around Guernsey and enjoyed our time walking. We had a great time at cocktail hour and our dinner at the hotel. However, our 2nd day got complicated when my husband had an accident while we were on a tour. This is when the well trained and exceptional staff at OGH showed us how exceptional they really were. While I went to the ER with my husband, the staff worked with our friends to get us new flights off the island and home (USA). We got served coffee and then since our new flights were so early in the morning they prepared us breakfast boxes to take along the next morning, along with hot coffee and cappuccinno's. You always know how good a team is when there is an issue to solve, and this team rose to the occasion. We want to thank Kris and his front desk team and Pamela and Byron in the restaurant for looking after us. This is an exceptional team and hotel. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is visiting Guernsey.
Excellent location and beautifully appointed
A Piece of Perfection in St Peter Port My stay at The Old Government House Hotel & Spa (OGH) was an absolute delight, an oasis of quiet luxury and traditional charm that far exceeded all expectations. As the only five-star hotel on the island, the OGH lives up to its prestigious reputation in every possible way. From the moment of arrival, the staff were exceptional. The front desk staff treated us like friends returning home. Nothing was too much trouble for the team, who consistently demonstrated a warm, professional, and genuinely attentive approach that made us feel special throughout our entire stay. The level of hospitality here is truly second to none. Our room was beautiful, elegantly furnished, and immaculately clean, with plush bathrobes and high-quality amenities. We were fortunate to have a stunning sea view, offering breathtaking vistas of the harbour and the neighboring islands of Herm and Sark. The comfort was outstanding, ensuring a perfect night's sleep in a tranquil environment. The food and drink options are a highlight. Breakfast in the lovely Brasserie restaurant was a magnificent spread of buffet items and made-to-order hot options. We also had the pleasure of dining in the intimate Curry Room at The Governor's, where the authentic Indian cuisine was simply divine. The beautiful setting and superb service elevated every meal. The Old Government House is more than just a hotel; it is an experience of classic elegance and unparalleled service that will leave you with a warm, glowing feeling of contentment and a longing to return. We cannot recommend it highly enough.
Soze of bed too small
Petit déjeuner merveilleux!!
Chambre un peu petite
Absolutely beautiful hotel ,amazing food and very polite and friendly staff … our room was lovely but if we were to stay again we would definitely book a room with a view
Room with a view
We’ve just returned from the most beautiful, blissful stay at the Old Government House Hotel and Spa, and honestly, there is nothing we could fault—other than wishing we’d stayed longer. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel completely at home. We were welcomed with a glass of fizz by Kris on reception, who remembered little details from a previous stay, instantly making us feel like valued returning guests. That personal touch set the tone for the entire visit and made it clear we could truly relax. We were very kindly upgraded to a stunning Queen Superior room, which had been thoughtfully decorated for our anniversary. The room was immaculate, and the newly refurbished bathroom was beautiful. Every member of staff we encountered was warm, friendly, and genuinely attentive. The team in the brasserie especially Pamela deserve a special mention for going above and beyond to accommodate dietary requirements—nothing was ever too much trouble, and for being so genuine and warm. The service throughout was exceptional and effortless. Also thanks Ryan in the bar for the best cocktails and always service with a smile! This hotel is one of the very few places where we can genuinely switch off, and that alone makes it incredibly special. To top it all off, we had the most amazing massage from the wonderful spa team—an absolute highlight of the stay. From the fabulous food, drinks and incredible staff to the thoughtful details throughout, our experience was completely faultless. We wouldn’t change a thing, other than staying longer, and we can’t wait to find an excuse to return. Highly recommended.
Great
Bigger room notification of roadworks waking us on both mornings
We booked a three night stay, Mon 5th - Thu 8th January, mainly a three day break for my birthday. Your hotel was exceptional and the staff incredible, they went over and above looking after us and ensuring we had an amazing stay, including helping make my birthday certainly one to remember. After we checked out on Thursday, we received the news that our flight back to Southampton had been cancelled due to the storm. We rang the hotel reception, explained our predicament and the lady said to my wife, "Do you want to come home?" which we certainly felt it to be just like home. Again we were looked after, made to feel special and given the same room. On the Friday after we checked out, we were even at the airport and about to board the plane when again the flight was cancelled due to, 'Operational reasons!" Again we called the hotel for another night, were given the same room and again spoilt by the staff. So our original three night stay turned into five nights, which turned out not to be a hardship as the hotel staff exceeded our expectations making the five nights All this made us feel that we certainly got value for money. So many thanks for everything, much appreciated. We’ll be back.
À peine arrivé à l'hotel, nous avons été pris en charge pour nous mettre dans les meilleures conditions. Hotel où l'on se sens à l'aise avec un personnel trés attentionné
