The staff were very helpful and patient. Breakfast was supreme! We had a little apartment that we didn’t know we booked but it was very cute and clean with a kitchenette and plenty of space. Lovely spot right in the middle of town. I would book again.

Fantastic hotel with quirky individual styled rooms. The accessible room we had was perfect big bathroom and enough room to store wheelchair. Breakfast had one of the best selections I have ever had. Location was perfect just off the main square. No hesitation in recommending this hotel.

Very beautiful and large apartment, super clean and looks like it was just renovated. hotel staff were very helpful and nice, breakfast was great - we really enjoyed our stay! We used the hotel parking inside the ZTL with a very good experience - recommended. like all ZTL parking's in Italy its not very cheap, but super convenient. the parking itself is very very small but the hotel staff will physically guide you into the and out of the parking.

Nous avions réservé l’appartement, qui est très bien équipé et aménagé avec goût, en plein cœur de la ville. Un parking public se trouve assez proche de l’hôtel. Le petit déjeuner à l’hôtel était également très bien. Nous avons passé un excellent moment.

I really really liked this hotel. Staff were great and unerringly helpful, the breakfasts really nice and generous (loved the large wheel of aged parmesan for us to carve chunks from), and the location right next to the Piazza Maggiore made me super happy I booked it. This is a really fantastic hotel for staying and exploring Bologna. Highly recommend booking it if you are looking for a place to stay. I genuiinely really enjoyed my stay here.

Excellent experience at Phi Hotel Bologna. The staff were exceptionally friendly, helpful and professional, and everything regarding parking and payment was handled smoothly. Very good breakfast, a perfect location and modern, creatively designed rooms. It is surprising how two hotels in almost the same location can offer such different experiences. After a disappointing stay at Hotel Roma, particularly because of the staff, we were a little hesitant, but Phi Hotel was the complete opposite. We would definitely return.

The room was a little small

We’ve just left the hotel, I’m writing this waiting for our train. We had an excellent stay, absolutely loved the hotel but were particularly impressed with the staff all of who were just wonderful. We had a studio apartment for a family of four, easily controlled the aircon (essential because it’s baking hot outside), it had a kitchen but never used it, the food in the city is far to good to be missed. The location is perfect, you step out the front and you are in the town, about a minute from the main square. We took the food tour organised by the hotel and lived the lady who shows us how to make local pasta. I have to single out for praise the following, the lady on reception who my wife spoke to before we came, she was exceptionally friendly and professional. Mara, who looked after us when we arrived and interpreted for us, was absolutely brilliant, friendly, professional a credit to the hotel. And, I did not get his name, by the gentleman who looked after us in the restaurant (his cousin is a U.K. firefighter) was superb. We would stay here again but n a heartbeat. Thank you ❤️

The hotel is in a central location, very convenient for most things. Staff are friendly and very helpful. The air-conditioning cannot be turned off in the room although there is control for it. It can only be turned off by the reception. We found it too cold on our first night and we prefer to have the windows opened anyway. There is an extensive buffet breakfast, but what we normally have for our breakfast were not great. The fruit juices are in jars which are not freshly squeezed but from a carton. There were the same three sliced fruits, water melon, pineapple and melon every day. There is a basket of fresh fruits but these are not extensive. Room size, classic double is not exactly spacious.

To kick off our holiday, we stayed for two days in the La Torre apartment at Phi Hotel Bologna. The hotel is centrally located, ideal for a city trip to Bologna; everything is within walking distance and just outside Piazza Maggiore. They have a very extensive breakfast buffet where nothing is lacking. But the best thing about this hotel is the very friendly and helpful staff. We felt very welcome in this beautiful city! Highly recommended!

I really enjoyed my stay at Phi Hotel. The room was exceptionally clean and comfortable and the location is perfect for exploring the sites in Bologna. The restaurant offers interesting dishes in an informal and friendly atmosphere, and the breakfast offering is varied and delicious. As an older woman and solo traveler I felt welcomed and safe. I was there during a heat wave and can vouch that the air conditioning was spot on! I left my ebook in the room and when I called it had been found and the return process was easy and successful. I highly recommend this hotel!

The music in the Restaurant.. American Pop .. changed the whole ambience .. Britany Spears and Beyonce etc…would rather had italian music or even Dean Martin if it had to be American .. even though food was very good I would not eat there again because of music.. by the way same music for breakfast.

The accomodation is centrally located. The staff is excellent, helping customers with their requests. We left behind post cards, and these arrived without any issue to their destinations. The hotel even helped arrange a taxi to the airport. The breakfast was delicious and a reccomendation Deffinitly worth taking into consideration.

It is a bit on the pricier side, but the service you get is compensation for a lot.

The Phi Hotel Bologna is a charming small hotel in the perfect location at the center of historical Bologna just steps from the Piazza Maggiore. The rooms are uniquely decorated, the staff is friendly, extremely accommodating and they helped make our stay in Bologna perfect.

Comfortable friendly hotel in the old town, a couple of minutes walk from the main square. Lovely bed, good breakfasts. They have a list of recommended restaurants and will book them for you (we particularly recommend Da Cesari). They will also arrange a pre booked taxi back to the airport. The train station is about a mile away but easily walkable through a nice colonnaded street.

I didn't recognize that I booked an apartment. When I arrived at the hotel the gentleman at the reception informed us about it and took us to an apartment next to the hotel. The apartment is old but nice. It is comfortable and quite but the a/c works a little bit loud.

The location was great and the staff was wonderful. Breakfast was more than sufficient.

Our room had a lingering smell of waste. Staff was informed and nothing could be done. This was the only issue with this property.

We stayed in the La Torre apartment as there were two couples. It was fantastic - roomy, well equipped and the location was terrific. We couldn’t have asked for more! The whole experience wit Phi was great - from our email exchanges, to our check in with Guilia who made us feel immediately at home. She greeted us warmly, handled the paperwork, and then sat with us to go over a map with recommendations and points of interest. That level of service continued throughout, with checkout fellow running outside to us to give us taxi booking slips after UBER failed us. We can’t say enough. The breakfast buffet was excellent as well!

This is a lovely, friendly hotel in an absolutely superb location just off the main piazza, right in the midst of walkable restaurants, bars and shops. The breakfast is also exceptional. Tall people should be careful of the fourth story rooms, however, as there are sloped ceilings to avoid. Overall, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend PHI Bologna to traveling friends.

We stayed here in early May 2026. The big pro is the location -- it's super conveniently located just off the main piazza, a perfect spot for exploring Bologna. The staff are also very nice. Unfortunately that's where my positive feedback ends! TLDR: The A/C in our room was totally broken both nights we were there; the decor of the room was migraine-inducing with multiple things broken and no blackout blinds; and the hotel lied to us about an upgrade. On check in, we were told we'd been upgraded from a "cosy" room to a "classic". I was initially delighted until we realised this wasn't the case - the room we were in (306) was very much a cosy, as per the description on the website. It was awfully decorated (we must have gotten unlucky with the theme!), apparently with a "sun" theme though it wouldn't have been my taste. The room was painted all black with these bright strip lights running throughout - which meant your options were either "bright bright bright" or "barely see". The paint needed a top up; and the entire room felt in need of a refurb: the door lock was broken (ridiculously someone last September also commented on this with regards to the same room) and the bedside table lamp didn't work - though someone had previously tried to fix it with sellotape. Bigger issues were that the bedroom curtains are not black out (see the pic to see how much light got in - it would be unsleepable without an eye mask); and bigger still that the A/C didn't work for *both* nights we were there, leaving the room stifling hot. When I noticed our room was hot on arrival I asked them to turn the A/C on, which they promised us they would do (they control all A/C from the main desk and not the room itself, which is odd). Came back in the evening and thought it still felt awfully hot - struggled to sleep. The next morning I asked them to make it colder in the room, which they promised to do - only to come back to the same issue. At this point it was about 9.30pm at night and though they did try multiple times to fix the A/C, they eventually accepted it was broken and provided a fan once I asked for it. The next morning they offered to arrange a 10% discount -- which in truth I think is a little low given no A/C & the lack of meaningful curtains made it hard to sleep. Should also add that the room was quite noisy given it faces right out to the street. All in all, disappointing; absolutely not what we'd expect from a 4* hotel and despite the location not worth the money. We've been fortunate enough to stay in lots of hotels of all sorts of standard & vibe and we're usually very happy -- but for the price here, you can do infinitely better.

The location is superb, just a few steps from Piazza Maggiore, yet on a reasonably quiet street. For an italian hotel, the breakfast exceeded our expectations, with choice of coffee, spremuta, omelettes, great selection of cold cuts. The afternoon welcome drinjs in the lobby were also very nice.

The shower setup was a bit uncomfortable, but we got used to it.

Das Hotel ist absolut zu empfehlen! Die Lage ist fantastisch – alle Sehenswürdigkeiten von Bologna sind bequem zu Fuß erreichbar. Das Personal ist überaus freundlich und hilfsbereit. Aufgrund eines Lufthansa-Streiks konnten wir erst einen Tag später anreisen, doch das Hotel hat uns diesen Tag problemlos gutgeschrieben – wirklich toller Service! Das Frühstück ist sehr reichhaltig, mit frisch gepresstem Orangensaft und leckeren Omeletts. Im zum Hotel gehörenden Restaurant gleich nebenan gibt es hausgemachte Nudeln, die unbedingt probiert werden sollten.

Etwas schwierig ist die Parksituation: Das Hotel liegt in einer schmalen Straße, in der man kaum kurz anhalten kann, um Gepäck auszuladen. Parken ist nur auf den blau markierten Plätzen möglich (9 € pro Tag), was besonders am Wochenende herausfordernd sein kann – aber letztlich hat es geklappt. Wir haben uns für einen Mietwagen entschieden, da Taxis in Bologna recht teuer sind und wir Ausflüge machen wollten.
