Toilet didnt flush, tv didnt work, spa facilities were closed,not indicated when booking. Staff forgot to book taxi for crematorium for funeral we were attending despite assurance that it was all done so we missed the funeral. Have emailed complaint but no respinse so terrible customer service. Had to pay £30 for early check- in to change for funeral despite room being ready, and told we could change in the toilets ! And then we missed the funeral because they didnt book taxi. Would never stay there again and would not trust booking.com again for reccomendations

Excellent location in beautiful grounds - an oasis in a busy area. Super friendly staff who went out of their way to make us happy and satisfied. Great breakfast menu and freshly prepared. Although parts are a little stayed we appreciated that the owners are reasonably new and are gradually rennovating this lovely listed building. We were visiting for a family funeral and the wake was hosted in the same hotel. Aware of this the staff were really understanding and supportive and the food and drink were perfect. It's what English hotels used to be and what so many others these days fail to deliver. We'd highly recommend Botleigh Grange.

As I've said, parts of the hotel are a little dated but they are being rennovated. The lounge and bars though are excellent and extremely comfortable. The only thing I would say is that the hotel was largely empty for our midweek stay and we had booked single rooms with single beds - there were no doubles for single occupancy available on Booking.com - and we could have easily been upgraded to doubles. But that was only a very minor thing and overall we were all very happy.

Wonderful building and gardens. The staff were wonderful. They were helpful and friendly.

Sadly our room had a sink with a crack in it and the toilet was not as clean as it should be . Photos included.

The location & staff. The location suited our needs & the staff made our stay most enjoyable even though it was just for one night.

Lack of air conditioning, appreciate it's an old building otherwise the hotel was fine & the spa/swimming pool was out of action during our stay.

I loved the quirkiness of the hotel, I loved the fact that as a group we wanted to leave at 8 so we asked for the breakfast at 07:30 the chef agreed to this request, the food was good.

The room was nice but the shower was an older generation and would not stay in position on its loose holder (room 24)

The hotel is in a convenient location and the staff who dealt with the issue in person were polite and apologetic. After I returned later in the day, I was moved to a different room which was an improvement on the original accommodation.

I was woken at approximately 1:30am by excessive noise from guests using the terrace below my room and was unable to get back to sleep. Despite making numerous calls and leaving voicemail messages, I was unable to contact reception for assistance. The handling of the issue afterwards was also disappointing, as I received no confirmation regarding my booking changes and had to repeatedly chase for updates, including making an additional trip back to the hotel.

Night porter at first wasn’t happy to help me. Upon arrival he was different due to having a conversation. They had a wedding at the venue at the time of booking and was very stressed.

It’s not a spa as it advertises and hasn’t been for quite some time it seems. The Spa facility has been closed for refurb for more than a year apparently (potentially up to 3)! This is not made clear anywhere before you book.

Chaleur étouffante, pas de possibilité d’ouvrir la fenêtre. Bouilloire dégouttante, présence de cafards sur le tapis, robinets d’époque, pas possible de régler l’eau (chaleur et débit), chauffe-serviettes brûlant en permanence, produits de salle de bain ont tous déjà été utilisés précédemment. On y reviendra plus malgré la beauté du site. Pas de SPA. Publicité mensongère.

I went in with my eyes open from reading prior reviews Clearly they have spent time & money on the common areas like the bar & lounge Bedrooms still need a bit more focus but were clean and functional. Bathrooms from the 1980's. Bar stayed open for wedding party to well beyond 1am with no complaints

Staff tried hard but I get impression high turnover so a bit chaotic at times Left hand not knowing what right hand was doing No pool & spa ... tbf they did tell us well before and has been out of action for a while Cold taps in room 51 made a very loud noise when used unless you fully opened tap for jet stream TV wonky in room 51 and couldn't get it to level + covered most of the wall light behind

Breakfast overpriced! One mushroom only, one unexceptional sausage only. No toast arrived. Coffee not very nice. Hotel presents jtself as grand ( paper doilies over and under glasses bear inscription " Grand Hotel Excelsior* but Bitley Grange was not at all grand except in its own view of itself. The whole place needs a thorough refurbishment. We were NOT told when I booked that neother was spa nor swimming pool closed...I only found out much later and on checking out waa told they are closed till December!. Why do thecy adveetise on booking.com that they have those facilities when they are out of order???

We were made aware a week before our stay that the spa and pool was out of use ,, this was one of the main reasons we stayed

The hotel looked lovely from the outside and I liked all the period features. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Rooms were very dated. We had an "executive" room which was very basic. The en suite had a badly cracked sink. brown toilet water and a sub-standard shower. Whilst I appreciate that rooms require smoke detectors, surely they do not need to have bright green lights flashing continuously. Without a mask, it would have been almost impossible to sleep. Part of the reason for choosing this hotel was the pool and spa facilities. Unfortunately, these were closed during our stay, so I don't feel we got what we paid for.

No Spa, which we found out from a group of plumbers, that it might never be again. No air conditioning. High prices for drinks. Plus it was a long way from cruise ships.

Location was good, the bed was comfortable and the evening meal was enjoyable. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The heat in the room was unbearable even with the staff providing a second fan. The water pressure was not good with the shower going from an acceptable warm temperature to a very cold temperature every 40 seconds. Some form of Air Conditioning is needed and the water pressure addressed

Booked hotel because of spa and pool only to find out a couple of weeks before it was no longer available which left me no time to find somewhere else .

The rooms were comfortable and clean, and the hotel is in a convenient location. The staff were accommodating with our check-in and were generally helpful throughout our stay. Although there was a £10 per hour charge for late checkout, the team was flexible and supportive when we needed assistance.

The breakfast was disappointing, especially considering it cost £20 per person. As vegetarians, we found the selection quite limited, with no fruit available and very few suitable options. The breakfast area appeared understaffed, with only two team members trying to manage the service. We often had to request basic items such as bowls, water, and juice refills. I raised these concerns with reception, and while they acknowledged the issue, we felt a more proactive response or apology would have been appreciated.

Dinner was a little slow. Circa an hours waiting time but did taste nice. a few "out of order" bits around the Spa.

Staff who weren't aware of how to manage the shift. It was very disorganised There unfortunately was no obvious manager/ leader in site. There was a man in jeans & jumper that the young staff were going to, but he not once looked or came to see if all was well? Was he the shift leader?? Finally. I booked this hotel as it advertised its spa facilities.. It wasnt until i went to book a massage that we were told there was no facilities except pool & steam room... Why weren't we informed before hand. I would have NOT booked as the whole reason for going away was to have these facilities. We were very disappointed & complained to the spa girl. Nothing was done. Please can someone contact me regarding this matter. People like us work hard all year round & when we want a break & book a venue of our choice, one that advertised a spa which was not in action its extremely disappointing.

Having a voucher each for evening meal that didn’t cover the cost of meal as we paid for B,B and Dinner. Nobody told us about this. To reach swimming pool/soa you have to go outside. Okay in summer but not winter. Also passage ways and bar were not heated.

Restaurant, poor quality and expensive and lack of choice.

The breakfast was reasonable - there was only one toaster for everyone to share and only one coffee machine working so we had to wait. The staff were friendly and helpful. The bedding was fresh and the bathroom was new but the room itself was tired - there was no dressing table.

The room was dated but the main issue was that the spa was closed but this was not shared until we arrived. We had booked as a group to make use of the facilities before our company christmas party but were not able to do this.
