Loved every minute of it from check in to check out
Nothing will be going again and recommending to others
Stunning views over the lake
Couldn’t get in the hotel for evening food unfortunately as it was fully booked (which shows how gorgeous it must be) so had to travel out into Ambleside to eat - we still had an amazing evening with gorgeous food but would have preferred to eat on site with the view of the lake - hopefully we manage to get in next time
Had a lake view from our room. The room had lovely high ceilings and a large refurbished bathroom.
We didn't manage to get into Blue Smoke as it was fully booked. Our initial room was at the end of a long corridor going three quarters of the way around a courtyard! Fortunately the staff changed our room when we asked!
Everything
Nothing
Breakfast and location were great, staff were nice. Beautiful views from hotel and grounds.
Minimal plugs in the room, hairdryer broken whilst using and shocked my arm. Thermal journey added to our bill without us booking it. Advised on check in parking was complimentary however, had to pay £36 for parking on check out.
Location beautiful,
Only able to use the spa during certain times
The area was fantastic
A large wedding party was in and the carpets had not been vacuumed and the toilets not checked which was disappointing. Lovely hotel but the traffic on the main road kept you awake
Everything
The food was absolutely incredible. A great location with beautiful views
Some wallpaper stains in the room. I also stated in my email that we required a box of chocolates without nuts which wasn't fulfilled.
Spa was wonderful
No access to the basic leisure between 10am and 5:30pm Beds were extremely noisy every time You moved. We had to move room.
Wonderful facilities on site, exemplary staff and delicious staying in eating options. We made use of the gym and leisure facilities during our stay, gym is very well equipped for a small area. Took walks around the ground and ubered easily to and from the local areas for dinner out and visit to the crafty baa. Plenty of places to chill out and read a book outside your room.
That we had to leave!
Rooms, beds, spa complex
Hidden, excessively priced costs for the infinity pools, and car park. What kind of hotel charges for the car park...
Spa was amazing, and hotel grounds lovely. Staff were very nice.
Room itself was average and not worth the money. Also annoyingly, you had to pay extra to use the infinity pool and the best bits of the spa (60 quid for 2 hours) which was misleading. Also wifi was terrible and would have to be refreshed every 10minutes and even then did not work properly.
Perfect location, lovely rooms, bed very comfy , breakfast very good, friendly helpful staff
WiFi in room poor It would be better if the pool was more available for hotel guests who don’t use the spa, very restricted times
The colation of the property was very good, and was clean.
The bed makes so much noise even when you seat, the lady in the breakfast service was very rude.
Stylish and impressive design everywhere
Nothing of note other than having to pay an additional £70 per person to use the Spa facilities - think that rate is excessive given the price of the rooms
Stunning! Staff were really responsive and accommodating. The carpark guard was really nice and welcoming.
Nothing
The location was beautiful, the food good and the staff very friendly
For the price of the room the facilities were very basic a very small bathroom which was leaking brown water from the ceiling, the staff fixed this during our stay but not the experience you expect from a hotel like this. No air conditioning and a very small, cheap basic fan which circulated the air minimally.
Booked a short notice weekend away in the Lake District - Don't receive the wrong impression from the ratings - In my view the hotel was a nice place. Beautiful location, very nice looking hotel externally and the restaurants and spa were beautiful. Very nice food, I would definitely recommend if you intend to stay a while and not just 1 night. We didn't use the Spa or what I think is a member/club lounge - they looked stunning, definitely recommend worth a look! (be mindful that there is likely a premium price for these)
- I felt the rooms were overpriced for what the hotel aspect offered (bare in mind we've stayed in nicer and cheaper hotels in London which is saying a lot about the price). However, it has to be considered that it was summer break, so guessing prices inflate during this period. - Rooms were a bit of a let down, quite out dated when compared to the rest of the buildings interior. - Bed was uncomfortable, excessively soft mattress. Which resulted in us getting half a nights sleep and waking up with aches and pains in the morning. - Be wary of what feels a bit cheeky, there is a teddy that is left in the bedrooms on the bed which basically say if you take it out of the room anywhere, your charged a fee - as such be mindful if you have little ones. These do feel targeted towards families with young children. Never been to a hotel that does this. - There also seemed to be a lot of hidden costs that don't seem to be clearly marked - i.e. £12 per day parking on the premises. Again bit steep considering the price a room and the quality of the rooms.
This was such a great place to relax and forget the world. We stayed the “W” part of the property. A bit more upscale. It was worth it. I took the suite room 810. I couldn’t have been more happy. My friend Jo, took 708 and she said it was amazing. We did the 2 on site restaurants, the ‘W’ and the Blue smoke. Tip: save getting a steak for the Blue Smoke. We ventured out for our final meal at Jinitana’s it was 5 minutes there but 15 minutes to find parking. If you like Thai food, go there. We might have overdone it but the food was so yummy! In the property is did a couple of sets of massages (I did the deep tissue and a facial) and the next day we did the Thermal journey. You have to do that. 2 hours of relaxing spa activities. Including a red led face mask. I also managed to get a 30 minute hike behind the property. Highly recommend this place.
I had an issue with my room. It was near the lift, ice maker and an entry door and being on the ground floor. I made an inquiry about another room and they upgraded me to a suite on the second floor. So as much as I didn’t like the first room they quickly fixed it. The staff there are very friendly and just so nice.
Lovely building
Room 3 was roadside and window let so much traffic noise in it was as though the window was open and found it difficult to sleep Bathroom grout needs attention very loose tiles
The position of the hotel was excellent for our holiday needs. Grounds beautiful and overlooking the lake. Staff very friendly. The toiletries were exceptional alongside the wonderful food at breakfast.
There was a grounds map on the reverse of the hotel information sheet informing us about breakfast and swimming pool times. I wish our attention had been brought to this; I would have explored the trail and viewpoints.
Great view over the lake from our room. Hotel had history but was completely modernised and comfortable.
Car park charge felt a bit unpleasant
The location is spectacular. The rooms, service and food amazing.
We were a party of 6 and plus toddler. We couldn’t get a spa package. We assumed we would have access to spa facilities until we arrived at the venue and read the detail. Spa really needs to be pre booked at £70 per person for 3 hour slot.
So calming, beautiful place
Location excellent
Room not ready at 3pm (15 min delay) Restricted access to pool after paying for accommodation
Breakfast & location excellent
Amenities,hotel scent are superB
Wifi is very slow and its didn’t say in the bookings app that the access to the outdoor pool has additional charge
Clean and tidy
Didn’t like we couldn’t use all the facilities as a guest
Location is perfect
No air conditioning in the room
Great facilities, location and nice staff
Food was poor
all perfect
no issues at all been there 3 times
Great venue, very friendly staff, we had to wait until 3.15 to check in, but received 2 free cocktail vouchers for the Slight inconvenience, excellent views, and such a great breakfast choice, with definitely return again.
Everything
Top lokatie
Prijs wel wat duur
In a nice area. Breakfast was great.
The room was incredibly hot and although they had put a fan in the room it didn’t make any difference. Couldn’t find the room as there are so many stairs and we had a pram with us. Eventually had to ask someone and they took us a completely different way than we were told to go at reception to accommodate the pram. The door outside the room slammed multiple times throughout the night and early morning. I expected more for the price we paid.
The view
The mattress was hard, and the fan blew dust all over me
The property is in a fab location
If you want a room overlooking the lake then you’ll be in the old part of the hotel which unfortunately is long overdue an upgrade to the rooms
Location & very well kept
Room was court yard facing , no view at all , had close curtains to get privacy
Nothing just money daft
Location good
The property was beautiful clean and a relaxing feel to it
Great food choices and amazing breakfast! Very helpful and friendly reception staff! Modern, spacious and clean throughout the hotel in a beautiful setting overlooking Lake Windermere. We had a fantastic time!
We didn’t like the fact we only could go in the pool for a few hours in the morning when breakfast was on and a few in the evening. We feel that residents should have full access to the pool during the day.
Bed was good, room location was on ground floor facing marina great view. Booked evening meal which was really good also breakfast.
Room could have been better, shower was ok but no screen or curtain which resulted in whole floor getting soaked also some floor tiles loose.
good location
Scheduled our day specifically around access to the outdoor pool. Then told at 2p it was only accessible at 5:30p. At 5:30p, then told it was only available with a Spa package. disengenious advertising and very poor communication from staff from front desk, spa and management.
For me Mel who worked behind the bar was the best thing about the hotel and made my stay beltin 💯
Great location
we spent almost £300 for one night, to then be put in a room with no new and to be charged additional costs to use to car park and £25 to use the outdoor pool on the hottest day in years, seems a little tight
The setting is amazing
The road ..lovely suite but was not aware of the road
Breakfast was exceptional Rooms very clean and well maintained Indoor spa area very good
The outdoor thermal journey is very overpriced at £70 per person for 3 hours The indoor spa closes between 10am until 5.30pm
*★★★★★ Low Wood Bay + Blue Smoke Spent the day at Low Wood Bay and it was flawless. Room was spotless, views over Windermere were stunning, and the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming. Spa and pool areas were perfect for unwinding. Had dinner at Blue Smoke on the Bay and it stole the show. Food was next level - smoked meats were tender and packed with flavour, sides were fresh, and the whole menu felt really well thought out. Service was on point without being overbearing. Between the location, the hotel, and that food at Blue Smoke, it’s an easy 5/5. Already planning to go back.
nothing
Lovely spa with a good amount of space and not too crowded. Hotel generally was pleasantly decorated and lots of places to sit / have a drink. Food at the W was good, as was breakfast. Room was fine.
Residents are second class citizens. You pay circa £400 for a standard room......yes the hotel is of a good standard and the location is fabulous, but you only get very limited access times to the spa, unless you pay extra. You also have to pay an outrageous £12 per day for parking.
Beautiful location and the Spa
Everywhere just lacking finesse, service . Everything there to make it a great hotel and a wonderful experience but the service and finish just not there.
Loved it all , the service , the rooms, the food and the spa
Every think. Infinty pool was btillant and the views. Wow!!!
Location and view were amazing. Reception staff were very pleasant as were the bar staff. Relaxing stay.
Lack of attention at breakfast. Ordered tea with serving staff, none arrived, there were slippers missing for going to the spa, therefore we didn't venture over there. There were dirty trays outside our room which hadn't been cleared from room service and the cleaning staff were very keen for us to leave on the last day, with all their equipment blocking the exit route.
The room cleaners were very nice.
This was a reminder not to believe the photographs - the location is right on a very busy road - not at all the calm promised by the photos - the cost of the room is far from commensurate to the quality- the room is tiny (!) the light switches don't work properly- the glass on the bedside tables slides around almost slipped off and smashed - the bedside lights don't work - the light switches are some job lot someone was scammed into buying they don't work they have dimmers built in that don't function correctly - there was mold around the inside of the window- (that didn't open) they put us in a room directly opposite a service cupboard that I specifically requested not to have a room by access doors, service cupboards etc. - they changed it but with no apologies at all just a dead face - the vibe from most of the staff is not 4 star here - ( I will edit this as I had a great experience with the indian(?) sorry don't know her name - woman at reception - she was super professional ) otherwise it feels like a towny seasonal workers at a b&b - if we were paying 100 a night you'd expect it - not 450 a night - the Wi-Fi flat out doesn't work! (I am writing this in notes now so I can post this when I leave!!) heading to a massage in a moment - we will see ....later the WiFi finally worked after many attempts and trips to the front desk and help from the afore mentioned woman - but was still weak - spa huge disappointment - massage was decent but hotel guests have to pay an additional £70 to use spa facilities !?!?finally the FOOD. Yuk the worst meal I've had in years - for 156£ - listen I travel widely live in nyc and Mallorca and I can adjust to local cuisines - the mushroom parfait looked like an elephant did his business on my plate - rubbery fish - 16£ for one overcooked scallop - the wine was good but over priced - shall I go on ?
Perfect location and beautiful setting. Rooms were clean and adequate. Food was good. Restaurant in evening superb.
Wish we had known more about the set up would rather have stayed in the lodge part.
The overall condition of the hotel is exceptional. Beautiful place in a beautiful location with amazing scenery. The spa is amazing and the food, would defineltly recommend.
Some of the staff were good. Especially who were in the desk for spa.
İtems were missing in the room for example slipper or towels. I was expecting more as it is too expensive. During breakfast we waited half hour for a tea !!!!!
Excellent location, and hotel was generally a great setting to stay.
Unfortunately the spa facilitates were not open for the duration of our visit due to issues with the boiler
Locations, friendliness of staff. Super comfy beds. Adrian in the W restaurant deserves a raise as he is an absolute legend. Thank you Adrian and hope you get that NHS appointment soon.
Bathroom had hairs all over the shower upon arrival. Cleanliness could have been better
Great location right by Lake Windermere, amazing spa facilities. Lovely hotel room & very friendly, helpful staff. Great food, very much recommend eating in one of the hotels 2 main restaurants.
Only slight negative was the road noise as although we had a lovely room with lake views the main road was right outside & quite noisy at times.
Location and quiet
The bed was 2 single bed and they put it together to be king which was the mattress not comfortable
Proximity to walks and quiet area
No zebra crossing grid lock road and traffic nightmare and dangerous to cross the road between marina / bus stop to hotel
The staff were very helpful and I'd like to praise the staff in the Smoke House restaurant in particular, plus he lady on reception at the spa. Courteous, helpful but not overly fussy. The location was beautiful and the public rooms made the most of the view. Decor was also excellent in most rooms although it was getting a little tarnished in some areas.
The hotel policy of only making the pool available within some very limited timeslots. For a hotel charging in excess of £250 for a standard room which appears to pride itself on its leisure facilities, I'd have expected more. It left an unpleasant taste in my mouth and felt very tier structured - you pay for x you only receive x, whereas, if you paid an extra premium we'll give you y, where y, for me should have been a standard, fully available, facility. I also object to having to pay for parking! The room was clean, reasonably furnished but it missed some very simple touches - no vanity kit, dressing gown (but you had to ask for slippers), basic tea/coffee.
Excellent location
Where it was situated
Room was tired and marks on wall , broken floor plate by window and showers in bath so outdated. Don’t like not having a say in whether I tip staff or not. Just automatically take 10%.
The Spa (which you have to pay extra for) was AMAZING. Staff were pleasant and nice little touches like gingerbread on arrival. Nice new bathrooms, gorgeous location and grounds.
Some areas brand new, some battered and in need of repair. Our part of the hotel had wet paint, alarms going off in the night, cables hanging from walls. W restaurant overpriced and everyone in bed by 10pm!
We went to enjoy the spa and to stsy over which everything was lovely
The only thing I didn't agree with was we had to pay for overnight patking at the hotel which was £13. The hotel is on its own so there is no where else to park . I think if you are staying over you shouldn't have to pay for the carpark. To be honest I think they have a cheek to ask guests to pay
Everything
Nothing
VIEW WAS BEAUTIFUL BREAKFAST WAS SUPERB
NOTHING
Beautiful location. Fantastic spa. On main bus route so perfect for getting about if you don’t have a car.
Lots of renovations taking place so looked a little tatty in parts.
Clean modern and the spa is brilliant
The only gripe is the £12 parking if you don’t book directly with them
I recently stayed at Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa and would rate the experience overall 3/5. There are some genuinely standout positives. The staff were absolutely faultless throughout our stay — attentive, friendly, and professional, easily 10/10. Dining was another highlight; both the W Restaurant and Blue Smoke were beautiful, and the food and atmosphere couldn’t be faulted. The spa was also exceptional — genuinely the best we’ve experienced in the UK. We paid for the 3-hour thermal journey, which was fantastic and well worth it. However, there were several downsides that impacted our overall experience. One of the biggest frustrations was being charged £12 per night for parking simply because we booked through Booking.com rather than directly with the hotel. Given that we stayed for three nights, dined at both restaurants, and used the spa and bar facilities, this felt unnecessarily unfair — especially considering the hotel’s location on a main road with no realistic alternative parking options. The rooms themselves were clean but felt quite dated and tired. Additionally, the lock on both the main hotel room door and the bathroom door didn’t work properly, which was disappointing at this price point. There were also a number of smaller extra charges that added up — for example, £5 for flip flops to use in the spa. While the spa facilities are excellent, access to the pool is restricted to certain times unless you pay extra, which was surprising. We’ve never stayed in a hotel where pool access isn’t complimentary throughout the day. Breakfast in bed was another slight letdown — we ordered it twice, and both times items were missing from the order. Overall, while there are some fantastic aspects — particularly the staff, dining, and spa — the additional charges and room issues take away from the experience. I would definitely return to use the spa again, but I wouldn’t choose to stay at the

The veiw out the front over looking the lake
Wasnt informed to book in advance for the spa facilities
Bar staff great food good but stayed in better places for same money but you learn by mistake
I booked the spa for three hours felt like I was robbed poeple just getting let through from pool area to spa with out paying its 140 pounds for 2 people for 3 hours but y should others not have to pay when we have to ...if I do go back I will book one person in and just take wife in later
Staff all very polite, helpful
Car parking extra to bill?
Thermal pools overlooking the lake
The is spa, ostensibly the hotel’s main draw, is governed by an excessive and confusing set of restrictions around access times and eligibility. Despite being a paying hotel guest and booking a 50-minute treatment at £115, I was still denied access. However you can book for £25 a 2 hour window where you can use some of the facilities but not all. This combined with the constant emphasis on additional charges, created an atmosphere that felt far more focused on extracting money than providing a relaxing or enjoyable experience. Even when access was granted, the spa pools overlooking the lake were beautiful - however inside It was overcrowded and far from the tranquil environment one would expect at such a cost, with the presence of loud children undermining any sense of relaxation. Given the strict rules and premium fees, it astounds me that children are allowed in the spa area?? The rooms were equally underwhelming, cramped, uninspiring, and entirely out of proportion with the price charged. Overall, this hotel feels less like a luxury retreat and more like an exercise in upselling at every opportunity including £12 per night parking for each car? Aside from the view, there is little here to recommend.
SPA!!! It is great facility ! Salted sauna and herbal steam were the best for us and outdoor infinity pool is unforgettable expirience ! The personnel are so friendly ! They make it very special ! We are ended the visit at the relaxing room with face masks provided by the spa. The Blue smoke restaurant is also very nice ! Fast service , great food ( duck pancake was my favorite!) and personnel were very kind and cheerful.
Nothing . I liked everything! We will be back for sure !

Areas to consider
Cleanliness
9/10Multiple reviews note rooms and property as 'clean and tidy', 'modern, spacious and clean' and 'beautiful clean', indicating a consistently high standard of cleanliness.
Service
9/10Several mentions of very helpful and friendly reception staff and standout bar staff (named), but offset by reports of poor communication around pool access and an instance of rude restaurant staff — overall strong but with some consistency issues.
Location
9.5/10Repeatedly described as excellent/top/fab location with great views and marina/lake outlook; location is one of the property's strongest attributes.
Room Quality
7/10Multiple complaints about room issues: no air conditioning leading to very hot rooms, old rooms needing upgrade (lake-view rooms in older wing), hard mattresses, shower without proper screen/curtain and loose tiles — room quality is notably mixed and often lets stays down.
Amenities
9/10Spa and general facilities receive high praise ('spa was fantastic', 'great facilities'), but frequent negative notes about restricted hours, additional charges or package requirements for outdoor pool access slightly tarnish the excellence.
Value for Money
7.5/10Several guests felt the price was high for what they received, citing unexpected extra charges and disappointment given the cost; value perception is below the hotel's otherwise strong attributes.
Food and Beverage
8.5/10Breakfast is repeatedly praised as excellent with great choices and strong breakfasts; however there are isolated comments about poor food and rude restaurant staff which temper a uniformly top score.
Overall Experience
8.5/10Many guests describe a relaxing, enjoyable stay with beautiful setting and willingness to return, tempered by recurring issues around pool access and some room shortcomings — overall positive.
