When we had breakfast, with a dog we could only access hot buffet , not the tea, coffee, juice ,water , cereal extra No one offered to help , just asked me to leave the area with the dog
Location, staff, breakfast.
The room had continuous fan noise as its window opened to the roof of the pool, where the ventilation system was quite loud.
Location and staff
Rooms were very hot, food is expensive especially Sunday lunch (£35 for 2 coursss) and there were no other options at the time.
When we first saw the hotel it looked absolutely lovely; the photos online make it look incredible! When we walked in we got the keys quickly. Was unaware we had to reserve £25 when we got there on our card. The staff member was nice. The outside of the hotel is nice to look at.
Sadly the rest wasn’t very good. The room was okay but for £252 (I paid less in central London on marathon weekend) you kind of expect a little more. There were no plugs next to the bed which is always a pain. Bed was a bit hard. Wish as well you could have a breakfast option as we were never going to take advantage of this. It is SO noisy. We could hear children running up and down the halls and lots of noise from outside and with a newborn it was an absolute nightmare (they knew we had a baby so could have placed us in a better area) and felt a bit awkward that people might have been able to hear him cry in the night based off what we could hear. The windows were open so far in the room that if I was alone I would have been unable to shut them without getting a staff member which seems a bit silly to do. We stayed for the new forest marathon which we do each year, we did look to go next year as it’s only one night and in a good area for us, but it’s gone up to £272 and we have to reserve £100 when we get there so we won’t be returning unless we really are stuck.
Breakfast was great although the table we were at was quite unstable.
The location was great.
The economy room on first night was very small and very dark. Could hardly move. Also paying £250 for it. Felt like we had been given worst room in hotel. We were moved to a better room on the second night
Room was a good size. Breakfast very good. Staff were exceptional.
Our double bed was two twin beds pushed together.
The location was excellent
The outdoor swimming pool tiles are broken, the pool was dirty You cannot swim in the indoor pool it’s more a splash pool for children The bedroom was small with a cheap bed base that was all scratched , cheap ikea furniture , definitely not worth the £230 a night cost!!
Staff were friendly and helpful. Good choice for breakfast.
Small and very hot room, provided fan which did not improve conditions. No net curtain at window allowing many midge flies in the room. Noise from both guests upstairs and slamming of doors in the corridor.
The property had good places to eat and the staff were very accommodating and helpful. The spa was very good and I had a great massage there!
It is very run down and old. Some areas look like they have not been cleaned in years. There was mold on the sticky mat for the bath which is easy enough to have cleaned. We also chose the housekeeping option and they never changed our towels in 3 days. They only made the bed and took out rubbish- wasn’t really much “housekeeping”. No fridges in the room so we couldn’t keep our toddler’s snacks or milk cold. For somewhere that is child friendly, it doesn’t make sense to not have a fridge. Coffee at breakfast from the machine was terrible. There could have been a better selection of fruit too.
Was a nice location
Very disappointing experience Unfortunately, our experience at this hotel and restaurant was extremely disappointing. The problems started with the hotel room. The toilet was constantly running, and when we turned on the shower, water was leaking everywhere. The restaurant experience was also very poor. When we were first seated, the table was not clean. I ordered Coca-Cola but was brought Diet Coke instead. We asked for a pencil for my little daughter so she could complete the kids’ menu, but the pencil never arrived. When our food arrived, I found a piece of bone in my burger. I nearly choked on it, which was extremely frightening and completely unacceptable. We also asked for ketchup and mayonnaise, but neither ever arrived. Nobody came back to our table to check whether everything was okay or whether we needed anything else. When we asked for the bill, we waited around 20 minutes, and eventually I had to go inside myself because nobody came to us so that we could pay. What made this even more disappointing is that we were there to celebrate my birthday with my daughter. I had hoped it would be a lovely and memorable experience, but unfortunately, it turned into a very stressful and disappointing evening. By the end, I was so disappointed and put off by the whole experience that we didn’t even order dessert to celebrate my birthday, which we had originally planned to do. Overall, the experience was poor from start to finish. For the price we paid, I expected a much higher standard of cleanliness, food safety and customer service. Sadly, we will not be returning.
Clean, good breakfast
We stayed here in the 90s and it has hardly been updated! There is a shower over the bath which wasn’t very powerful. No air con, just a very noisy fan which wasn’t great for a restful night’s sleep. No coffee machine, just a kettle and I had to ask for tea bags. Seems you have to pay a premium in the summer to stay anywhere in the New Forest, judging by the reviews …
The room 25 was lovely and spacious. All areas of the hotel were well kept and welcoming. Loved the pools and the spa. Food was excellent
The change for dogs was enormous for our tiny cockapoos. Very expensive sausages they had. The charge should be reduced for small non shedding breeds. £10 per night would have been enough
Very nice hotel and very good breakfast.
Not a good view from bedroom .
Great location, bar and pools were cool
Arrived to be told restaurant was closed from 7 for a private bbq. No prior notice so we could arrange alternative dinner. Room was very small with very poor bathroom. Very hot but nice fan in room, however in the morning we found the shower would only work on scorching hot and shower head wouldn’t stay in place so we couldn’t have a shower! (Room 21) Breakfast was quite chaotic. Had to have a table in the lobby and breakfast items were allowed to run out with long period waiting to be resupplied.
The room and Spa facilities were absolutely amazing. Highly recommend the experience this hotel offers.
Only booking one night .
Ambience and staff all happy and helpful
The hotel is dog friendly and I understand that but it absolutely stinks as you walk in the breakfast was awful and there was dirty room service plates left in the lift
The smell of dogs was disgusting the cleanness and the food (breakfast) was awful stink of fat and tasted awful
Lovely spacious clean rooms, staff were extremely friendly, would definitely stay there again or recommend.
Drinks service was extremely slow and the amount of dirty glasses on the bar was unbelievable.
The reception staff were all superb !
Nothing
Friendly front of house reception staff.
Dinner waiting service seemed slow at times and inattentive. Food was good and well timed for delivery.
Breakfast was very good lots of choices

Loved the bar seating areas outside the front on a lovely summers day.
The outside pool area seemed a little tired and not very attractive.
Pools were great - we booked for the pools. Good that pool opening times were opened until 9pm. Could open until 10pm.
Aircon in room would have made it more comfortable in the summer heat, although two fans were provided. Bathroom was a bit tired and could be modernised. Could have been a Premier Inn standard. Check out was too early - 10:30. We were woken by housekeeping because we thought it was later. Food service closed too early - 9pm. We struggled to find food after walking around we had to get food from a small Tesco. I would at least expect room service at a hotel of this size and standard, even if menu is limited.
Bar was good, staff were good. Breakfast excellent
Flush didn’t work, dust in room
The staff, location and pool. Our room was a superior with a balcony and was lovely.
The staff were very friendly and helpful when I asked to move rooms The Pizza was lovely and we enjoyed the buffet breakfast
The rooms need to be updated the furniture was chipped and marked Thought the decor would be Better than it was for the money we paid for just one night stay
Lovely hotel with helpful friendly staff.
Outside pool was cold. Room had a brick middle partition which restricted any air flow and natural light from the window to where the beds were. No air conditioning, the fan provided was so noisy but needed it on all night. No plug sockets at all one side of the room so had to put the fan on a chair.
Location and service excellent
The outside pool could do with a little TLC especially around the edges where it was concrete and not tiles.
It ticked all the boxes
Nothing
Mooie locatie , het eten is lekker zonder het woord speciaal te gebruiken. Niet al teveel keuze en veel vegetarisch. Ontbijt was matig , waterige vruchtensappen.
The position was good, and they offered family Rooms with a separate room for the kids
Very tired hotel, aircon in the room but not working so we had to use fans and leave windows open which meant my kids were eaten alive by mosquitos. Everything was old and definitely not 4 star hotel like. Breakfast was also below average
Staff was lovely. Really lovely.
The only thing we found completely crazy was to close the kitchen at 8.30 p.m. on a Saturday evening - in a hotel that is outside of town.
breakfast was lovely great selection cooked breakfast was hot. bed was really comfortable outside terrace was lovely
room was extremely hot . fridge was not cold, either could not cope with temperature or broken we did report this twice but not acted upon tv did not work until we had reported this twice Being rung during our first full day advising us we were moving rooms which we had not been told about . This was resolved after 3 phone calls while we were out
Nice pool. Great location
Rooms were booking, no aircon and bad fans
The location is fantastic
The toilet had not been cleaned no toilet paper or paper towels. Bins were overflowing with paper just spoilt it.
The staff were lovely and so was the location.
We paid for a superior room and the room was poor quality it’s hard to flush the toilet, toilet stay up , wash hand pug didn’t seal. Furniture was dated there was scuff maths on the skirting. No air conditioning.
The location and the special architecture of the place, the pools, and the staff were great
The WIFI didn't work in the rooms, only in the lobby. Under the bed, we found garbage, and we had an issue with the shower that was later fixed by the staff, but we expected to get a working shower in the room; we got there during a heat wave, and there is no AC in the room
Bed was comfortable Staff were friendly Nice gardens to have a drink Lovely quiet location Good quality breakfast
Rooms dated - disappointed especially as we paid for an upgrade Room exceptionally hot even with windows open all night and fan on (that didn't help). Although I recognise it has been very hot, more efficient solutions needed - eg air con units Drinks over priced Lots of dogs around us at breakfast Broken coffee machine at breakfast which limited choices
Very nice property in great location. The Pool outside was a god send, due to the temperature.
The pool could do with some sort of rails to get in and out of. Also would have been nice to have swept the entrance are each morning to remove the leaves and dust from the previous day. Would have been nice to have Aircon
Location is excellent, and hotel and grounds beautiful. Was wonderful having both indoor and out door pools. Not good to have to pay extra now to use sauna etc. Food very tasty with good choice. Staff friendly, very attentive and really listened to for my booking request. Thank you
Having to pay extra for spa sauna etc, when cost of stay is very expensive, should be included.
nice staff Nice location
Rooms still had rubbish from Previous customers Lack Of vegan meals
Beatiful property, comfortable rooms and stunning, well maintained grounds
Difficult for wheelchair user to navigate to outside swimming Pool. No air conditioning
The staff are absolutely amazing - exceptional in fact .... nothing is too much to ask they make you feel so welcome and we also had a puppy and two children with us and they accommodated us and everything we asked for. Hayley was especially kind and so professional. Next is the pool, its clean, cold on a roasting hot day, loads of lovely gardens to enjoy, a zip line for the kids, setting and location in the heart of the New Forest great for dog walks and a stream for the pup to cool off... huge room and bunk beds to boot and the food is sensational....
Everything would be a 10 /10 had there been air conditioning... that said I would stay again but the rooms were very very hot for us and so sleeping was a challenge...
Location
Dated interior
Great Location
Hotel was very tired and in need of investment / modernisation. Breakfast buffett was not restocked and everything was extremely over done. Shower in room was pathetic. Staff all a bit slow and uninterested - probably all dreaming of getting a job at The Pig!!
La atención del personal y su ubicación
La cama adicional estaba sucia y en mal estado
Google Good and good
Main lunch and main evening menu same. Same menu every day poor selection and over priced. Very poor value for money. Therefore had to eat out 5 out of 7 days. Drinks over priced.
Great location, facilities with pools and friendly staff with great breakfast
Noisy with constant barking of dog in next room.
Convenient for family

Nice property
Good food
Free upgrade to a balcony room with great views. Friendly staff. Excellent food for dinner and breakfast. Easy parking.
Beautiful location with some lovely walks and great proximity from the village.
Rooms were good but maybe a bit tired and could do with an upgrade.
Breakfast En suite clean
Room dingy. all black, grey and brown No view, window half covered in white plastic Noisy fan outside Dinner menu same every evening
Food was excellent in the Lodge restaurant. Fantastic outdoor facilities (pool, zipwire, table tennis) and the indoor fusbol was a hit with younger visitors particularly.
The hotel is a little dated in places. They are clearly renovating and upgrading, which is great - lots of it really does feel like a luxury country house hotel but some things (dated decor in rooms, no aircon in room) lets them down on that. Like many places nowadays, it felt a bit under-staffed. There were queues to check in, dinner service was a bit slow, etc.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, clean & tidy facilities.
We stayed during the heatwave and the room was very hot - not much to be done about it but perhaps fans might be handy in the room.
It’s position in the new forest
Wellness centre not part of the Spa, would cost £30 extra. I paid for a bottle of red wine to be in our room on arrival, it was not. When I reported it at the front desk I was given the wine and glasses but with no apology 🥺
Beautiful setting, friendly and professional staff. Food in restaurant was delicious. Room was adequate and was cleaned to a high standard as was all of the hotel. Lovely outside sitting area, very relaxing.
Nothing to dislike.
We went for a tea party for my in-laws 40th wedding anniversary; and we stayed over. I liked the outdoor pool and I liked it at the edge of the new forest.
Slight glitch over the booking, we booked a family suite and before we arrived we were told we just had the one room. I dont know how that happened, my husband sorted it as I am not always the most diplomatic. But we did get the 2 rooms as my daughter was with us.
Breakfast and Food menu very good.
We were expecting a better spec room for the price paid. We were next to the cleaning cupboard, and the cupboard door was open when we arrived that made us feel like we had been given a basic room. This was a surprise break for my husband. We have passed the hotel many times and promised ourselves we would stay one day. The Reception staff were polite but unable to move us due to the hotel being full, which we completely understand. I was just disappointed as I felt I had paid a good price for a 1 night stay.
All staff were exceptional, welcoming and friendly. Everything about balmer lawn was amazing! The room, grounds, pools and restaurants were perfect!noth
Nothing 🤷♀️
Everything was lovely.
Nothing
Location, exceptional staff. We could not have been looked after any better, they really went the extra mile to make our stay special.
Nothing
The setting is lovely. Ponies on the lawns right outside the hotel. Very welcoming staff. Good food options particularly breakfast. Nice little pool
Great friendly staff. Lovely building. Good location . Very good choice of food at breakfast. Quality food in restaurant.
Some dust on some of the room surfaces. Could do with a few more dishes on evening menu
Everything was great. Can't praise it highly enough. Celebrated my partner's 70th birthday and the flowers that i ordered were lovely and waiting in the room.
The fact that you couldn't make your tea and let it brew in a pot. I would be nice to have your pot and small jug of milk.
My partner and I stayed here over the weekend for two nights, the hotel is lovely, caught our eye as soon as it was visible from the main road, staff incredible, so helpful and friendly, breakfast was brilliant, great selection of flavourful foods, and brilliant destination, close to villages, areas for long country walks/rides (both bike and horse), close to local pubs and restaurant, we will definitely come back
My one and only grumble really is to do with the spa and health facilities… no gym, or anything dedicated to working out, pools are tiny, both in and out, lots of children jumping around, felt like there could have been some more adult/children dedicated times, if there was more than 3 people in the pool, it felt crowded. The spa costing £30pp per day, is not worth the money at all, it is extremely over priced for what it is, there also should be a better deal if you are staying for a few days to be able to either include it for the whole weekend, or one payment and you can use it when you want, 2 people for 3 days £60 a day is an extra £180, it’s nice to have but it’s a sauna and steam, you won’t get much more than a 45 minute visit until you’re done. And I seemed to get the vibe the cost was being pushed, no one told us you can do 24hours from the time you start, until we enquires this with the spa staff, it’s was very ‘nope, £30pp per day’ until then.
Location
Dirty drab room
Lovely location in the new forest. Helpful and friendly staff, comfy room and a great breakfast.
Room a bit pokey and no view.
Location
Hotel room looked tired bed was uncomfortable and pillows were terrible
We chose your hotel (Balmers Lawn) to spend the weekend celebrating my wifes 70th birthday having spent a weekend here on our anniversary the previous year. Breakfast was very good, the staff were amazing and location absolutely idyllic.
However we reported to reception that in our room (55) our wash basin has a large crack in it. The first night (Friday) our bed began to separate and we found the mechanical brackets top and bottom had not been used to fix the bases together, and the wing nuts were wound right in so it was obvious the brackets had not simply come loose but had never been connected and had to do ourselves in recently hours of the morning. We noticed when moving the bases that the carpet under the bed was absolutely appalling it had not been hoovered for somewhere and included cut paper, an ear plug and much detritus, pictures We reported this to reception the following morning with photos. Interventionist appeared directors this and apologised. On our return the carpet beneath the bed had been hovered.
Very varied choice
It was all ok
room was spacious, and breakfast was really good.
bar service was a bit sporadic, with long waits as staff were not there, or managing other functions as well.
Position is great, directly into new forest walk paths, you can easily see horses and the hotel is also close to villages and amenities
During the cleaning service, they forgot to refill the toilet paper, which is a basic necessity that should never be overlooked. Additionally, the shower was very inconvenient: switching from the bathtub to the shower was awkward and made it difficult to use comfortably.
Great Location, friendly staff great service and beautiful decor
Pool area was very crowded
The building and grounds are beautiful. Room was lovely and clean, great bar area and outside seating. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Location is perfect!
The pool area didn’t have enough loungers and the jacuzzi wasn’t warm enough and very frothy, not very enjoyable. We also didn’t know where to get towels from it wasn’t clear, perhaps they are only provided if you pay the additional for more access i’m not sure. The room didn’t have much information in it such as check out time, spa information, local information.
Relaxed atmosphere
Nothing
From the moment we arrived everything was superb. Couldn’t fault a thing. The kids loved the games room and the zip wire. Food was good. Location was superb.
We didn’t have a great view from our room but if that’s the worst thing about a stay then you know you have done well!
Location and extremely helpful and courteous staff
The bathroom sink was tiny and the shower boiling.
Nice rooms, grounds and breakfast
Room was to noisy
Location, bar area, views.
Food quality poor, slow service, tired and not particularly clean rooms, tired and old pool and changing area. Bathroom didn’t have a window.
Staff very professional very good Breakfast
All was good on my stay.
Gorgeous location, but seems as though the prices are ramped up as a result
Looked lovely from the outside, and even the lobby/ ground floor was nice. But our room was very shabby and outdated. Leather peeling off the headboard, vent hanging off its hinges etc.
Location and some staff.
Poor quality food. Poor quality room and amenities. Felt like a budget hotel but for high cost to customer. Feel ripped off.
Very relaxing, friendly feel about the hotel. Every single member of staff there were faultless, they were friendly & extremely helpful. It was so nice to go somewhere where the staff look like they want to be there & are happy in their job. The food in the restaurant was amazing & the spa facilities were great.
If I had to say one thing it’ll be that the mattress was a little uncomfortable but this wouldn’t stop me staying there again.
