Convenient location for me.
Decor felt tired and dull within rooms. Could have smelt nicer. Although not smokey, was a non smoking room felt as if perhaps a smoking room in the past.
Friendly staff
Tired, dated, dark and overlooking a roundabout
It was a gorgeous hotel and a good location.
We were not there long enough to not like anything but I could not foresee any problems for a longer stay. Would definitely stay again
Beautiful hotel with plenty of cosy areas to sit, relax, have a drink and enjoy a chat. The bed was large and incredibly comfortable, and the breakfast buffet had everything you could possibly want. Staff were very accommodating throughout our stay, making the whole experience feel easy and welcoming.
The only thing I didn’t enjoy was the fish from the fish and chips — it just wasn’t very nice (not off, just not to my taste). The chips themselves were lovely, and everything else during my stay was excellent.
The food and comfortable bed
The decor was tired and needs updating. Mouldy smell in bathroom. Noise from balcony door Balcony looked onto service area of hotel. Not upfront from bookings .com about parking charge
Large room with comfortable bed. Large bathroom. Complimentary drink at the bar was a nice touch. Free parking on-site was very helpful. Convenient to get into Derby itself.
The whole place feels just a little tired. Also, it's confusing about the parking. In the carpark, it looks like everyone has to pay. Clearer instructions when you book on how to get free parking when you go to reception would be good.
Was lovely staff was really helpful and friendly Would definitely stay again
Pool ,steam room
Spa out of order, web site not updated charge for parking room wasn't cleaned for second night stay a very dated hotel but good breakfast
Just on outskirts of Derby next to A28 brilliant location. Swimming pool and good breakfast, staff very friendly and helpful
Looks a little old fashioned in places. We were on 3rd but not in main hotel !!! Lift didn’t work hard to access with luggage
We’ve been working in the area for a few weeks. We managed to find a great deal on this hotel and so pleased we did. Absolutely immaculate room, of a little dated which doesn’t bother us. All staff were just so helpful Shame that we were too busy at work to use the leisure facilities otherwise it would have been perfect.

Paying for parking
The rooms were comfy and the pool and sauna area were lovely and relaxing.
Breakfast was a different story. Meant to be a buffet breakfast. Always enough and no wait except for the person in front. We had to wait 5 mins to replenish eggs. Another 5mins for hashbrowns another 10mins for sausages and bacon. When it arrived the hashbrowns were pale and warm, the bacon and sausages were uncooked. No bakery confectionery only bread for toast. Empty fruit bowl. All in all dire. We had no breakfast. At £15ea of which I paid for 4 breakfasts that's not acceptable When the many people complained we were told it was an a la carte set up. Wrong!!! Then reception said short staff. Apologies. Our room had a note to say sorry due to unforseen circumstances no service available. All in all for a 4* hotel which I struggled to afford was very disappointing. I have submitted a formal complaint and received no response.
The location, large rooms
Waiting 90 mins for food. Ive emailed 3 times for a VAT receipt and still havnt had a reply. Hotel is Understaffed.
The room smelt of mould
Friendly Staff
Over bath shower - walk in shower preferred
Everything
I liked everything
Our children enjoyed the pool. Beds were comfortable. Nice breakfast.
Only small issue we had was the cot we requested wasn’t in the room. But was dropped off in our room when we notified reception.
Location
The room smelt awful had obvious pervious leaks from velux window. Flies in the light above shower. Shower wasn't very powerfull. Only except cards even just for coffee..?
Great hotel for events in the City. Staff accommodating, Big shout out to Jose who was a great help to my partners needs with his mobility. Very attentive, can see he loves his job. Hotel accomodate all of our needs with requirements. Thankyou
Nothing
Wonderful breakfast and I enjoyed a couple of swims in the pool. Very convenient place as my son and daughter-in-law live a couple of miles away so made visiting them easy and also easy bus access to Derby city centre where I met up with an old family friend. Had one dinner there with my son and daughter-in law and we all enjoyed it.
I tried there offer of "no housekeeping" in exchange for drink tokens - no problems with not changing sheets and towels as I was only there for 5 days and no problem asking at reception for extra tea bags and toilet rolls etc. The one thing I didn't like about it was that there was no way of cleaning the toilet (toilet brushes had been removed from the rooms).
I had a room upgrade, which was a lovely surprise. Traveling on my own, it was nice to have a first floor room not to far out of the way. I liked that there was a gym, which I did use. The pool looked lovely just didn't have time to use.,
The rooms need updating, need phone charging sockets I arrived at 5pm but no one on reception.
The bed was verrryyy comfy, big room , good air con/ heating good shower , friendly reception and bar staff Plenty parking nice touch to have a free drink for skipping room clean good sustainability Pool and gym is a good feature although needs a bit of TLC round the edges , enjoyed its use
Unfortunately the room was quite dirty, spilled liquids up wall, wooden bath panel could do with being replaced as looks very worn Room needs a Deep clean of all the walls The service is not great I requested room service but was told they wouldn’t be able to bring to room would have to collect it, why offer room service if unable to deliver, also couldn’t find anyone to get a coffee around middayish , had to go into the kitchen areas myself to find someone to order, maybe needs more staff around.
Good for family meeting

the staff attitude at breakfast - Buffett was neglected and service was slow. Staff member put on display that she couldn’t be bothered
Value for money
But dated
The leisure club
Bit dated
Location. Good size room.
Pool area could do with a deep clean. A bit grubby in places. Slight tide mark around pool & grubby on some of the steps. Rest of hotel fine
Un sitio muy tranquilo, muy bien cuidado, el hall con el bar para relajarse mientras te tomas algo es muy acogedor, y la piscina está muy bien.
No hubo nada que no me gustara!
Main bed was comfy.
Sofa bed very uncomfy. Cannot open a window just a double door to a balcony. Room was freezing when we walked in. Reception came to sort out for us. We had to go down because they didnt awnser the phone. It was just annoying walking into an ice box after a long drive and no clear instructions for heating. Then having to wait to warm back up. Breakfeast was very bland. No flavour
A very spacious hotel with excellent facilities and a good location.
A minor problem on check in which was soon resolved by the lovely lady on reception.
Staff were friendly and helpfull and room was just right, apart from extractor fan in bathroom not working.
Meals a bit expensive for quality/portions
Good location pool is a nice temperature building has character..
Unfortunately the bedroom is not cleaned properly and has damage and wiring exposed in the bathroom... I guess it's cheap for a reason. Changing rooms rough. Needs serious renovations!
Location is great for where we need to get to.
Food isn’t great.
The staff were very helpful, the bed was comfortable, and the room was spacious. Overall, I was happy with my stay.
The only downside was that the bathroom was not cleaned properly.
Good value for money and appox 4 miles from city centre.
Busy car park with very small car parking spaces.
THE HOTEL WAS AS WELCOMING AND ACCOMMODATING AS EVER. OUR EVENING MEAL WAS GOOD VALUE AND THE QUALITY WAS GOOD.
The biggest "let down" was the fact that one lift was out of order on our arrival and the other lift to the rooms broke down soon afterwards. There was a good number of elderly people in the hotel and in our case my wife (83) and I (80) had great difficulty negotiating the stairs to our room on the second floor. We know from our previous stays at the Mickleover that the main lift from the reception has been unreliable and feel that a major overhaul is required.
The facilities available. Swimming pool, bar, evening meals. The bedrooms are lovely and spacious and clean.
Unfortunately it is just very tired and well used in all aspects. In need of renovation.
Really lovely helpful staff in all departments
Lift out of action
I love the ambience and the serene environment. The staff were amazing.
I do not like that there was no lift especially the stress of carrying luggage via the stairs.
Food was very good, staff were helpful with a cheerful demeanour.
The hotel is showing its age aesthetically and mechanically.
Friendly staff good facilities.
Location and indoor pool.
Comfortable bed. Staff were lovely. Food was good apart from one meal (bean burger) that they replaced with another. Overall a comfortable stay but the hotel was a bit shabby. Breakfast was good.
Two lifts were out of order and the pool area and changing rooms were dirty
The room was very clean and spacious, the mattress was very comfy. I appreciated that we've been asked for interolances or allergies before breakfast. The location was great and quiet, amazing to relax. Very friendly staff.
Both elevators were broken when we arrived and my friend had issues with walking up the stairs. We have been told that it will be fixed, but unfortunately they were both out of service for the whole three days, which is a shame. The rooms haven't been serviced after the first day, which I would have appreciated. The spa area is nice, but especially the showers beside the steam room/sauna would need some maintenance. There were little things missing such as regularly refilling the water in the reception area, as it was quite warm that weekend. The breakfast was quite standard, but ok for the price.
How it were assembled and the workers also have time for their client awesome
Nice size rooms
Na
This hotel could be amazing, it is very tired, not very clean, needs some money spent on it.
The lifts were constantly out of use. The breakfast was ok, but very expensive for what you got. I only eat continental, which I feel is way too expensive.
Location and facilities great staff pleasant and very polite
Takes to long checking in , don’t know why but need to improve
The family room was a good size. There was plenty of room for a family of 4.
When I arrived in my room the carpet didn't look clean and it wasn't so I picked up as much debris as I could. All 4 tea spoons were dirty as were two of the cups so I cleaned them as well. As for the breakfast then some of the plates in the warm stack were so dirty it looked like they hadn't actually been cleaned since the last customer. My hand was covered in mayonnaise from the plate underneath as I lifted up the top plate. The elevators were broken almost the entire time I was there as well which gave me quite a bit of exercise up and down the stairs for two days. When I left, the receptionist didn't ask how my stay was because I think she knew as well as well as I did that the hotel standards are quite shocking. Considering the cost of the hotel, I expected better. All I can do is leave an h onest review and never stay there again. And I will do both.
The staff were very friendly and helpful
The rooms are very tired, need updating, especially the bathroom. The lift continued to break down, my 80 year old mum struggled to use the stairs. Some guests were offered complimentary breakfast, we were not offered anything for the inconvenience.
Breakfast
Booking in was a nightmare took four different rooms to actually get the right one .. the pool was to loud with kids .. I upgraded my room for £16 additional charge but got charged £32.. which wasnt wat I thought as it said just £16 it didn't say anything about per person if I new that I wouldn't of done it

Tout, c’est loin, vieillot
Room good size Breakfast good
Lifts not always working Leaking bathroom Pool too cold
Location good road links plenty of parking close to village and amenities Resturant very good excellent service Room good sofa to relax on Bath/shower needed attention running too hot and not able to regulate Very high bath so difficult to get out for the elderly
Nothing Stayed here several times at different times of the year. Note Sunday evening bar meals only
The spa
Overlooking the car park
Location
Awful damp smell in family room - visible black mold around Felix windows in room had to move room because of this but only to a small double which couldn’t accommodate all of us. The gym also where the equipment like treadmills etc were housed was unclean - very dusty ledges and unclean carpet.
It’s amenities were great
Not much. It’s a great place
Theresa the waitress was very helpful as was the manager but it was a shame we needed him to intervene.
We booked 3 rooms, one was newly decorated but the shower, once used, wouldn't turn off. We asked for a cot but that took ages to arrive and when the room was changed we had to drag the cot along the corridor to the new room as no staff could/would help us. This new room was smaller and we had to move the furniture for the cot to fit.
Clean room.
Staff and service (especially in the restaurant ) were awful and impacted my stay negatively.
Staff were really nice and helpful
Elevator was slow and that’s the biggest issue I found so not really an issue
Location was ideal for where I needed to go and plenty close enough to local amenities.
The hotel currently runs a special deal which should work well for short stay guests. You can either have your room made up or have a free drink from the bar. As a non drinker I opted for a clean, fresh room for my second night. However, the cleaners managed to make one of the beds, the other was hastily made, the duvet was not straight and a pillow was left on the floor. Our wet towels were not replaced, only folded and hung so they didn't dry. Not ideal. The shower didn't work. The pool was filthy. Both days there were fingernails on the side of the pool. False nails someone had pulled off and just left there.
Comfy bed Polite helpful staff
Worn out carpet in our room 214
Check-in and room availability were good. Helpful service in bar area after coach party had been attended to.
Booked the room specifically because it has a walk-in shower - I am currently recovering from snapped ankle tendons and getting in and out of a bath shower is far from easy - only to find the walk-in shower in my bathroom was out of order.
The staff were helpful and friendly.
Some information given to us regarding the meal payment booking wasn't clear.
Location was really good.
Nice room, good facilities, breakfast was nice, location was perfect for us.
The room was great, the breakfast was excellent and the pool was great. The staff were helpful and very friendly
Nothing much bit of road noise but nothing too bad
Pool Room
The staff
Nothing
Rooms spacious. Staff friendly facilities excellent
I cannot fault this hotel
Staff were amazing
Nothing really
Towel are good
Nothing
General manager very professional, friendly and accommodating
No air conditioning in reception area
Room was specious, very clean and comfortable.
The sauna and steaming room wasn’t in use and we wasn’t informed about it.
The staff although seemed very under staffed.
The sauna and steam room wasn’t working and the shower in our room
Modern , large room with aircon a god send in this heat , breakfast was good not fantastic but decent. Staff seemed very friendly
Didn’t get the suite I booked , given a deluxe double not deluxe suite , given free dog stay but still feel cheated. Bar area uncomfortably hot , no air conditioning Lots of feral kids and people walking round in towels, looked like a happy shopper spa day. Drinks extortionate £18 for a red wine and bottle cider
Location
Old, needs a good make over
Very nice clean and had all the facilities
The shower space is small
Quiet location, plenty of room, airy, close to amenities.
Paid extra for balcony and was given a view overlooking the bins and the staff entrance/exit. Went down to the pool. Waited 15 mins for reception staff as we were told we could get a towel. After 15 mins we went back and got the towel from the room.
the weather was very hot, but our room (218) had air conditioning and it was very nice.
we arrived at the hotel at 20:00 on saturday but the car park was completely full, so we had to park in an area where there was no designated parking, an overflow car park is needed. At the moment you only have one working lift and that was not 100% reliable, you should get this fixed and get the other lift fixed.
Nice and spacious with friendly staff.
Gym / leisure facilities not opening until 0645. No good if you wanted to have an hour before work as this doesn’t give you enough time to get ready, have breakfast, then travel to work. The hotel is starting to look a little tired.
Friendly, helpful staff at the reception desk.
Too many steps to the pool, a bit tricky for the disabled.
The bar and restaurant staff
Everything else the room was very poor I had a suite!! Furniture old leaning over, could not use the balcony or shower which was inclusive in the price of the suite. The lift was not working properly. Only nice part of the stay was a lovely young girl working the bar and restaurant on Friday night and also breakfast staff on Saturday morning were very welcoming. The girl on reception Friday night didn’t seem to care.
Amazing value for a decent hotel with pool and gym facilities. Very comfy room
Weak shower. TV had sound but no pictures
Facilities wonderful, pool big, amenities excellent! Room nice, balcony with air con Very impressed!
Needs a little TLC & there were hand prints all over our window balcony. Very strict on smoking policies more smoking facilities for smokers needed (not fair)
The outside appearance at night
The parking ticket followed my friend after being registered.
I liked the location and the staff were really nice. My suite was also very spacious and somewhat comfortable.
I didn’t like the fact that there was no housekeeping service. I had to keep using all the towels to soak up water off the floor every time the shower was used. There was also a fire alarm late at night and even though it turned out to be ok I think that staff should have informed and apologised to all customers.
We like the hotel. The entrance and the reception are well maintained. The bar area is good. We enjoyed our last day at the swimming pool, jacuzzi and the sauna and steam room. It was relaxing stay.
But the rooms need an upgrade. Carpets are old too. Our bathroom was spacious we had a shower cubicle and bathtub in the room, which was great to have but the shower cubicle kept on flooding. So wasn't worth it. Probably they need to clean the bathroom.
The hotel the politeness and the service
It was all 👍 good
The room was nice and cold in the warm weather about the only positive
The service was awful the restaurant was unaccommodating and told us varied stories as to why they basically couldn't accommodate us in the restaurant due to issues with gas and electricity they could only provide a sandwich burger or pizza even though we heard their colleague say the were understaffed I've never stayed at a hotel where I couldn't get an evening meal especially one that was £187 for the night and that kept sending emails to upgrade and pay for the meal in advance of which one party member was refused a refund on even though they could not provide a suitable evening meal absolute shambles and will never stay there again the spoons in my room with the tea and coffee facilities were dirty the whole experience completely marred my whole weekend
The girl and the receptionist counter was very helpful I give her 5 stars for trying to make the best of a very bad situation. The pre paid dinner which I did not want and could not get a refund she gave me three bottles of house wine. Which I was happy with. As for the kitchen staff see below my comments
The restaurant staff mess us about and lied to us. They had an event on and they just catered for that all they had to offer the rest of the guess was burger and chips or pizza or sandwich for dinner. If we were children that may of been ok. In the end we seeked food outside of the hotel.
Everything was great here and the staff were fantastic. Kamal especially was great at breakfast.
Spa facilities could be slightly cleaner
Gym and swimming pool were great unfortunately the pool area smelt like cigarette smoke
The suite had a broken shower and the reception staff was unhelpful and rude, when I requested another room. For breakfast when following the sign and asking for eggs I was told they had no gas so couldn’t cook anything!
The location
Very dated . My balcony door was not allowed to be opened apparently it was broken
Swimming facilities health suit was good
Unable to use restaurant was told several different stories why we couldn’t book a table the bathroom in our hotel panels missing soaps etc empty
Facilities plus location
Seem take life time booking in serious legs started aching standing there that long
Location, walking distance to village. Pleasant helpful staff. Nice ambiance in bar/ lounge area.
Nothing really, but a pedestrian entrance/exit gate away from the vehicle entrance would be good for walking to the village.
Swimming with son
Funny smell in corridor- like stale cigarettes Dog hairs on floor and sofa in room
Pool
Bugs in the room but no help from staff Broken shower on had cold water and no hot Maintenance cane 3 times but could not fix it When complained they promised to move me to a different room but did not Poor customer service Asked for compensation and no reply

What guests love
Areas to consider
Cleanliness
5/10Multiple reports of damp smell, visible black mold, dusty gym, poorly made beds and a filthy pool; several guests asked for a deep clean.
Service
8.5/10Staff repeatedly described as helpful and friendly across many reviews, though there are isolated failings (restaurant service, slow cot delivery) that lowered consistency.
Location
8.9/10Frequently praised: good road links, convenient for village and local amenities, ideal for visiting family and nearby destinations.
Room Quality
7.5/10Rooms often comfortable and spacious with good beds and seating, but some rooms had worn carpet, damp issues, showers/baths that were hard to use or out of order.
Amenities
8/10Spa and other facilities are liked and considered a strong point, but problems reported with pool cleanliness and a dusty gym reduce the score.
Value for Money
7.6/10Mixed comments: several guests called it good value and would return, while others felt it was not worth the price due to service/cleanliness issues.
Food and Beverage
7.4/10Some praise for very good restaurant food and excellent service, but also complaints about poor restaurant staff performance and limited Sunday bar meals.
Overall Experience
7.9/10Overall stays are generally pleasant with friendly staff and good location/amenities, but recurring cleanliness and occasional service problems temper the experience.
