When trying to order room service I was screwed around and had to call 3 times to two people who told me it would be a 40 min wait. Also, the door security was poor. Not a great service at all.
Lovely clean, quiet and spacious hotel accommodation in the city of Derby. Me and some others were there for an event in the area, would stay here again. All staff were very polite, friendly and were ready to be of service if me or my group needed anything.
The property was undergoing construction in the ground floor lobby, so was a bit confusing finding reception. Beds could be comfier.
Great breakfast
My room (214) was a really lovely room and it was very clean, comfortable and spacious. The bathroom was super too. However, there were some things other than the room that niggled me. The double doors between sections of the second floor often banged even when you were trying to pass through them quietly. This is just annoying (and noisy!) for all concerned. I had dinner in the hotel restaurant on the Saturday evening and it was absolutely fine but I did feel that the two guys running the show (one on the bar, one on the floor) were stretched a little thin. Maybe it was a one-off, but resourcing this properly should be looked at. And finally, I went to the Reception desk on the 4th floor after breakfast to enquire about the car park discount and to say I was packing up my things and will be leaving shortly. She said not to worry about bringing my card back up and told me to leave it in my room. She checked if I owed anything and think she must have checked me out as I was locked out of my room when I went back downstairs to finish packing. I had to go back up to the 4th floor and get it sorted. Also, the promised £8 discount wasn't applied to my car park charges when I was exiting the basement car park (Derbion) despite me adding my registration number to the system on Reception. Things like this are so basic, and SO easy to get right!
Amazing breakfast and beautiful view from Restaurant
Hard to find entrance when first arrived Smell of paint strong but got better over the weekend
Nice staff
More options for breakfast
Very convenient location to Derby city, walkable to cathedral, shopping centre. Staff were great, room was very comfortable and clean. Would stay again.
The room was clean and spacious and the staff friendly and helpful. The location was excellent for the city and public transport. The breakfast offered a wide selection and the restaurant area was spacious and comfortable.
I stay there a lot. The executive suites are amazing and great if you want to have a few friends around for pre drinks before you go into town. Very spacious.
There is no mention of this on web site the entrance and first two floors are a building site. There really should be a warning about this - this is not a fully operational hotel. rooms are drab are poorly equipped. no complaint about the staff they were great but this is not the standard one used to expect for a holiday inn. perhaps it is now aiming at 2 star market
All good although finding the hotel via google maps can be a tad tricky due to all the turnings on the ring road and associated shopping city turn offs .
No parking on site means it’s not the easiest place to unload suitcases and than re park . Saying that all hotels in city centre have the same issue . Parking in the shopping centre is new , secure and comes with a hotel discount .
Great location, staff were lovely and parking was reasonable and close to hotel.
Our mattress was getting old and sank in the middle, so we didn’t sleep well.
Everything
Staff and the range of breakfast options available. Good coffee.
French pastries. A/C wouldn't stay 'off' when turned off.
Everything was excellent x staff really friendly x the price was exceptional including breakfast which was also lovely x plenty yo choose from x bed was very comfortable x room was a very good size x all in all an exceptional stay loved it x 😀
There was nothing not too like
The exceptional customer service of every member of staff we came across… Starting with the Receptionist, then the bar staff, the breakfast staff, the housekeeping team - very friendly, chatty and courteous
We stayed in an executive room, no view from room.
Clean modern well equipped
Nothing
Close to everything and staff really nice and helpful. Beds and everything else really clean.
Rooms were way too warm. Air conditioning didn’t work well at all had window open but noise of bus station too loud.
I didn't have any breakfast as am disabled. Went for it once but found it too difficult in my scooter to serve myself. I didn't wish to pay additional £5 fee to have it in my room.
Didn't realise the entrance to the Holiday Inn would be partially blocked due to work in progress. Not leaving much room near lift entrance to turn it you are on a scooter.
Great location, air conditioning in room, great breakfast service until 11am. Modern room decor and furnishings. Including fridge. Without the rude barman both the overall stay and staff would have scored excellent. I'm sorry for the rest of the staff who without exception were very friendly and polite.
Josh on the bar, we were group 4, went in 10.45 placed 1 drink order, other couple then asked for same again order which he didn't want to serve us. We pushed him too as it was not yet 11pm. He had a terrible attitude, and distinct body odour. He then served a half measure of Sabucca, as it was all that was in the bottle, and charged for it at full measure price. When the night porter took over drink service he was so much friendlier. Even served us small bit of wine extra as was end of bottle. Following night we asked reception staff if we could eat our takeaway in the bar while having drink, she said we could. Josh then came over loudly said we had to leave, we explained we had asked first, he went to speak to receptionist came back and said "she is being dealt with she's new, you have to leave. He was rude, loud and very unprofessional. We left, and would have done so much more happily if he had a better way of doing and saying things. Noting the Casino next door on our departure that is where we will be having our end of the night drinks next time.

Building work
The hotel was easy to assess and clean. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, especially since we had a late check-in due to working at a wedding in the area. They responded quickly to our needs.
There’s no parking, and it’s near the main road.
Central location Clean Friendly staff
Quite noisy but town centre Rooms warm even with air con Bed a little hard for myself
Everything was more than satisfactory for us, thank you.

Although work was being done it didn’t spoil anything
Nothing
Good location, room was disappointing this time though.
Room had a very strange smell, had to buy air freshener from the corner shop over the road. And the “city view” was not nearly as good as the last time I stayed. Breakfast was poor, had it delivered to the room, wish I hadn’t bothered.
Location & cleanliness
Room light didn’t work
A great central location, decent-sized rooms with good air-conditioning, and a fantastic breakfast selection (especially for allergies).

Everthing
Very central location close to public transport links and city centre. Friendly helpful staff and a well presented large room
There was building work being carried out in the foyer, but this did not affect our stay
Only £5 extra to have a fab breakfast delivered to our room. Great location. Room big and bed massive. Slept so well
Lovely comfortable clean room. Great breakfast and ideal location. Staff were very helpful and polite.
Building work in reception area.and access to reception. Signs about getting to reception, not clear. Bar expensive.
Location and staff
Reception on the 4th floor and ongoing construction. Safe didn’t work
Everyone was super friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was beautiful and the beds were super comfy! It was my dad's birthday they put a birthday banner up for him in the room, wrote a message on the mirror and gave us two complimentary drinks! They really did go above and beyond and I am so grateful!
Everything was perfect
Location
Uncomfortable bed
The staff was friendly especially the lady who helped us make a new booking as ours was cancelled by booking.com
All top on
Exactly what it should be! Central, clean and nice big rooms.
Room was clean
Reception being 4 flights of stairs, whole place is a building site. With wires and scaffolding everywhere, parking not great
Nice Hotel ... easy check in.... breakfast fine ...
🤔
We booked this hotel as a last minute option. Cannot fault it whatsoever. Staff were polite, the room was upgraded at no extra cost, the room was great, perfect.
No negative things to say!
Room large, modern and clean. Parking was local and enjoyed the discounted rate.
Building works at entrance.
Fabulous location and stay
Nothing it was great

Overpriced and rude staff
Great hotel
All great
Proximity to rail and bus stations
False fire alarm was a hassle
Location Shower Fridge
Curtain didn't quite close out the light from outside. Shower glass shield didn't prevent watery from Langdon on floor
Cleanliness of the room, not cleaned properly as the was crisps remaining underneath the bed which should have been cleaned. After being cleaned found more crisps and food crumbs underneath the bed. We had a accessible room, the clothes rail need a person over 6 foot tall to reach, someone in wheelchair would be impossible. Shelves in the room was extremely high.
Location and friendliness of staff

All great
Breakfast was reasonable for £10 each.
Expect a 15 minute queue at reception to check-in. Bed soft and uncomfortable. Curtains didn’t shut properly. Air conditioning control panel lit up brightly all night.
Enjoyed our 2 night stay. Beautifully cleaned room, very comfy bed. Lovely breakfast with a wide selection of choice. Knowledgeable staff who were all very helpful. Would defo stay there again.
The rooms were spacious, the beds were comfortable, tv & coffee were in the room, nice restaurant.

Hotel was clean and tidy, and quiet. With no parking or advertising of where to park it’s quite awkward to unload a car or get your belongings to the hotel as it’s a good 5 minute walk through a shopping centre. On entering location of the reception is on 4th floors but needs to be advised more clearly at the entrance. Due to building work there entrance isn’t the most enticing currently. We were not made aware of any building work being undertaken. The bed was not the most comfortable as we sunk into the middle, but the room was clean and warm and what was needed for an overnight stay.
Great location 15 minutes walk from the train station and 5 minutes walk to the shops. We took our dog with us and found it exceptionally dog friendly (they even have treats on reception for the dogs). The staff are all lovely and very accommodating. Breakfast on both days was great and we were able to eat in the lounge area opposite the restaurant with the dog.
The room was very hot as the air conditioning temperature wouldn’t go below 18 degrees and when it did come on it barely blew any cold air out. We could have the window open but, as we were on the road side of the hotel, it was very noisy. It was very hot both nights we stayed so wish we could’ve turned the room temperature down.
Sky was excellent
Great location. Comfortable bed. Quiet room.
Room was too warm and couldn’t turn heating down. Could’ve complained but we were attending a function and had to rush. There were some renovations going on in the foyer which didn’t make for a brilliant welcome but the reception (on the fourth floor) was fine. Otherwise a lovely stay. Would advise you to use Just Park and book parking elsewhere as it’s much cheaper.
Clean and helpful staff.
Aircon did not work - very warm Fire alarm at 10am for no reason
We had a mostly positive experience at the Holiday Inn Derby Riverlights. Check-in was smooth, and the staff were genuinely lovely—friendly and welcoming. The rooms were clean and comfortable overall, though the bathrooms could use a little attention, particularly the grout, which appeared brown or dirty in places. Unfortunately, one of our rooms had an issue with the air conditioning. We had chosen the hotel in part because it advertised AC, but despite contacting the front desk, we were told it was motion activated. It never turned on and during the night, and we woke up hot and uncomfortable. Meanwhile, the other room we booked had perfectly functioning AC from the beginning. We would have appreciated more urgency or support in resolving the issue at the time. Overall, the hotel has potential for a great stay with a bit more attention to maintenance and responsiveness.
Stayed only one night but excellent stay
On arrival was greeted by a lovely lady on reception she was very helpful made me feel very comfortable. Also after the event return back to the hotel & the gentleman on reception in the evening was also very helpful. Room was exceptionally clean & had everything I needed, also had a great night sleep. Breakfast was also exceptionally very good as there was lots to choose from plenty of choice. Would have no hesitation in booking & staying again. Thankyou for a great stay.
