Great location, friendly staff and overall great facilities and value
Nothing
Een en al top!
Location is beautiful Spa access is good Food is good Room was comfortable
Unsure of Demographic.
Very friendly staff, very clean, great entertainment & food
Facilities were great and staff friendly. However I did feel there were gaps in communication between departments and we were not informed on arrival that we needed to book for breakfast
The mattress in our room was very soft and causing some discomfort
Great location
The staff when checking in the staff didn’t advise that we needed to book for dinner and breakfast - I had to go back to reception as the restaurants couldn’t book us in - reception Agi who booked us in - said she didn’t think she could fit us in and then breakfast would have to be at 10am this wouldn’t suit us but then said we could go at 7:45am - this morning there was probably about 6-10 people there. I found Agi was quite rude and didn’t explain the process of booking dinner and breakfast
Great location with plenty of choice in eating 3 restaurant 2 bars 2 theatres. Staff very helpful. Grounds excellent.
Room was a little bit untidy
Brilliant location really clean nice decor though out
Nothing in particular a little moan about the entertainment nothing major
The old part of the building is beautiful though the grounds could do with the attention of a gardener who cares about plants rather than just preventing weeds.
Aside from the receptionist and the very young lady taking the food order, the rest of the staff only seemed interested in talking to each other, we were an inconvenience it seemed. Food quality was very average and poorly prepared, either overdone or underdone. I doubt we'll return.
Good. Food and staff could not be faulted.
Reception facilities were the worst I have ever experienced. Inadequately staffed at one small counter. Inflexible eating arrangements. Unhelpful responses to our complaints.
Location was fabulous Hotel was immaculate and staff friendly.
Pillows to soft Fire alarm light was flashing all through the night and should be positioned away from the bed area and I didn’t get any sleep and ruined our break. Standard room was too small so would upgrade next one The breakfast in Manor House could have been better waited 30 minutes for poached egg and was freezing cold when they served it and couldn’t eat it. Inform visitors on website to use google maps as sat nav didn’t take us to the hotel and took us to a closed road and was deep into the countryside should have a sign up for visitors. It happens all the time reception said.
The grounds are beautiful, bar and restaurant staff were attentive and friendly, the bathroom in the bedroom was recently renovated to a lovely finish. We had great food in the Travelling Duke.
Check-in was bizarre, we were given a key card in the car park and told to go to our room at 3pm (we had arrived slightly early), no welcome or being reminded of restaurant bookings or given any directions around the venue, checking if the room might be ready early, etc. The hotel also clearly caters to an older clientele than we expected, and the menus/music/entertainment felt a bit more geared towards that generation, (which is fine!), but a mix of styles across bars/restaurants would make it more appealing to other demographics. The bedrooms were so hot, we both slept terribly even though we tried to put the A/C on multiple times. There were missing toiletries in the bathroom and the bedroom (south wing ground floor) was tiny. Fine for one night only but not at all spacious. We went for a run around the grounds and followed a sign posted route but half the signs were knocked over and parts of the route blocked off (we were not informed) so we had to improvise and find our own way. Breakfast was chaotic with no clean tables when we arrived at our pre booked time, loads of tables either not set or still dirty. We had to ask for cutlery and go and find someone to ask for tea and coffee.
The hotel and grounds are lovely and the hotel facilities and restaurants have a good variety. We watched a Bob Marley tribute band and they were amazing.
There didn’t seem to be enough staff, there were lots of dirty tables left for long periods of time, some for 2 hours. We also had to wait nearly an hour for a sandwich, when the food came we were not offered any sauces or cutlery as the staff member just walked off.
Staff are excellent the service was great my wife was over the moon with the hotel we will be going back
Nothing to not like
Historic building was beautiful, dinner was lovely
A key aspect of our booking preference was a pool and spa. The whole site suffered from a water issue so some coffee machines were not available within venues and the pool was closed
Beautiful location & Tom the rifle shooting man
Some of the restaurant staff were quite rude
The setting and the architecture.
The new side does not go with the Manor House itself. Looks a bit 70s , some of the areas looked grubby. Where the lounge is
Value for money. Spa was good
Check in staff were awful. Basically handed over a single key and told you to get on with it through qr code. This wouldn’t accept credit card. Subsequently tried to call reception and gave up after ten minutes unanswered. Asked reception about spa facilities and directions, then got there to discover we needed two keys to get in. Reception was terrible!
Absolutely lovely place to stay. We only booked for one night, but if we knew just how lovely the place was and how much there really is to do we wished we booked for longer! The food was lovely, the grounds were beautiful and just a really relaxing place to be
There were lots of things to do. Long walks and then chill in the outdoor area. The cinema room was amazing.
The food wasn’t good at all. During dinner, the catch of the day was Hake and it was inedible. The supervisor came to apologise which I appreciated. Nevertheless, dinner was ruined. The breakfast was ok. Please do stock avocado. I’m sure lots of guests would appreciate that.
Very clean, friendly and efficient staff, delicious food.

Food and entertainment
Not enough space in this box to tell you
Very friendly staff. Going out of their way to help. Very clean, immaculate in fact.
I loved the hotel and particularly the staff, the entertainment was good. Unfortunately my fire alarm in my room flashed intermittently in my eyes most of the night, making it impossible to sleep. I reported it to the receptionist the next morning , she arranged an inspection. The second night the air conditioning light kept on flashing green, that started the fire alarm to start flashing again. During my two nights stay I constant interrupted, sleep. I’m totally tired and felt my long awaited brake was seriously disappointing. Such a shame for such a nice hotel.
lovely grounds
staff were rude
Great location, very helpful staff, great food choices and entertainment, rooms really lovely.

Nothing
The one exception was an Australian lady on staff who was incredibly helpful and kindly allowed us to do the archery. She was fantastic and a real credit to the hotel.
We were disappointed with our stay at Heythrop Hotel, particularly as this was our first experience with Warner Hotels. One of our rooms was significantly smaller than the other, with little help offered when we asked about changing rooms. We also weren’t informed that breakfast needed to be booked, nor did we receive any email explaining this. As a result, we could only get a 10:30am breakfast, which was particularly frustrating as we had also requested a late checkout that wasn’t recorded, meaning we had to leave earlier than planned. We also weren’t told that activities needed to be booked in advance, so we missed out on using many of the hotel’s facilities. Overall, we felt very disappointed. Half of our group had travelled from Manchester for a one-night stay, yet due to the lack of communication, we barely got to experience the services we had paid for.
The grounds are beautiful
Cleanliness in some areas needed attention Which I did bring to receptions attention.
The vast grounds were beautiful and the outdoor seating area was lovely.
Not very clean, service was very slow, staff seemed very over stretched. A wonderful place for over 70s
Room clean this was the best bit. Be aware you have to book a breakfast and evening meal time prior to arrival and restaurants you wish to eat. There was NO choice left on arrival so had to eat in market kitchen ,breakfast 10.30 ( only time left and evening meal 8.00 only time left . Food was cold ,waitresses and severs plonked food in front of you never a smile to be seen . They has run out of certain things as it was last entry times for food. This then made us late for entertainment and they run a first in gets seats so had to stand . A major disappointment so much so we are cancelling our December booking with warners and will loose our deposit but can’t face another disaster
Food waitresses communication information
Great location and clean and comfortable
It was OK. The food selection was great
The hotel placed us in the South wing while our satnav took us to the much grander location further up the road. The south carpark is a good 80 metres from the hotel so a long walk with 2 suitcases. No means to drop off closer. The carpark spaces are too small thus causing some guests to park on the line or straddle 2 spaces. Either way we had to be creative with parking because the park was "full". At least it was not raining on the day
Breakfast was lovely Entertainment was great
Room needed cleaning better, and there was no Tea bags or milk left in the rooms, that was in our room as well as my sisters
There were facilities at the spa that were good for the property
If you don’t prebook a reservation for meals they do not just have walk in space despite being a hotel. There was no other options for food, no room service. Staff were not helpful, waiting over 40mins for a drink on the terrace after ordering on the app to be told by the bar staff they aren’t accepting orders until they catch up…. Yet we had been able to order and pay without issue 40mins prior. Only option for food without reservation the suggestion was crisps from the bar….. very poor
All of it
Nothing
Staff were friendly and polite throughout, and there was plenty to keep us busy. The grounds were beautiful, we loved the long entrance drive and seeing the wildlife along the way, deer, foxes, squirrels, and sheep. We played croquet, bowls, and billiards, as well as some board games in the games room. We also had a swim and made good use of the jacuzzi and thermal suite, which was lovely. I would have liked to fit in a round of golf but didn’t have time unfortunately, something for next time. We had reservations elsewhere so missed dinner at the hotel, but had the continental breakfast on two mornings and it was great. The food was great too, and there were also several events on over the weekend that we hadn’t originally planned to attend, but ended up joining in and really enjoyed.
In our room (547), the bathroom sensor light was broken and kept clicking on and off every 10 seconds or so throughout the night. Between the flashing and the clicking noise, it was pretty hard to get to sleep. The only other thing was there’s no air conditioning in the rooms, since it’s an old Manor House. With daytime temperatures hitting around 35°C during our stay, the room stayed quite warm well into the night. It might be worth mentioning this somewhere on the website so guests know what to expect and can plan ahead, maybe bring a fan or ask if there’s a cooler room available. Aside from that, we had a lovely stay and these were really the only two issues we ran into.
Room wasn’t the cleanest. Stained carpet, stained coffee cups, cobwebs all over the bathroom. Don’t think it had been cleaned very thoroughly. When we checked in we were only told where our room was, no explanation of how to get to the spa or any other facilities. We actually had to return to reception with follow up questions. Just disappointing in total
Lovely room in the south wing Comfy bed and 2 pillows, one soft one firmer Decent clothes storage Nice fridge for drinks Fantastic air con as we were in the middle of a heatwave Lovely pool, small sauna and steam room - Lockers and towels supplied Buffet breakfast was very good but the later you go the busier it is Extensive gardens and parkland
Parking was busy Thats all Otherwise, excellent
Great parkland around hotel
Air conditioning not working. Decor average.
pool - space - gardens
check in delayed - room we booked not available - dismissive attitude of staff
Everything was extremely good.
Nothing
The grounds and buildings were lovely
Food and service was terrible. The food was tasteless and service very dismissive
Great hotel & grounds
Terrible pillows, noisy room next door woke us up so very poor nights sleep
The building itself was very period and in a lovely location
When we arrived our room key only activated at 3pm and not a minute before but when we got to our room it hadn’t been cleaned or serviced at all. 90% of the people there were over 70 years old!! Loads of mobility scooters and grumpy old people. At check in no reception staff advised breakfast times or location. We not advised to pre book meals so didn’t get our restaurant choices. Staff not very friendly or helpful. Entertainment on Saturday night was very good. Food was nice and of a good standard. Wouldn’t recommend it to family or friends.
We found everything worth the trip
The only thing we were unhappy with was the breakfast was a bit over done but that could have been because we came at the end of the breakfast service
Exterior and grounds
Arrived at south car park after fighting for a space and parked up. Went to reception to be told you are in the lodge. Different car park and area. Arrived at reception to witness an argument with a couple and the receptionist. They had been trying to book stuff on line and couldn’t. Reception were very poor in how they dealt with it. No management. Young staff that were not interested or lead.
The show with Lauren Faye Moss was amazing but other acts were not good and we did not stay to watch the shows. The salad in the Market kitchen was good.
We paid for a Deluxe room through Booking.com and were assured we would receive a deluxe room but on arrival were given a standard room. We need a refund of the difference of £115 between cost of deluxe room paid and standard room given. We spent a lot of our 2 day holiday trying to sort this out which ruined our stay but Receptionists told us they do not answer phone calls and could not help. We are still waiting...after many calls to get this sorted with Booking.com
Rooms were lovely . Comfortable beds all clean and well presented. No air con. In my room but was ok as i had a lovely large sash window to open . The decore of the hotel was so beautiful with old fashion furniture and chairs around the whole hotel games room Was great . Lovely grounds and well looked after . . Activities were good. evening entertainment was good but predictable. .. tea and coffee replenished every day . But the milk tubes were awfull to open and I had to use a pen to split it open . Joined in with archery and indoor rifle shooting . That was so much fun and the two ladies that were running it was fantastic . They gave us a safety talk first and was always smiling and made us laugh they were so patient with all of us and we didn't feel rushed . Had a great time there .
The food choices were great but would have been nice to see more fish and chips or chicken and chips etc . There was a mix up with our breakfast we thought we had booked the kitchen dining room but the lady on the desk said we were booked into the travelling Duke for the whole stay and when I asked if we could change it to use the kitchen diner she said no but the restaurant was half empty . So when she directed us to the Duke the young girl at the door said your very late we explained the mix up but she did not smile or welcomed us , she took us to a table that was over crowded And walked off . We went to go to the other side of the Duke because it was half empty and the other young girl said we had to ask the first girl if it was OK to move tables and she was not happy . Well I'm sorry but if I'm paying for a meal I don't expect to be treated like that I was very angry but just carried on . The next morning in the same place the staff were very miserable and not smiling or welcoming. The waitress then forgot to give us any milk for our tea we had to wait till someone walked passed us to ask . Also there was no cutlery on our table so had to wait again to find someone but the couple on the next table told us to take some from the table behind us . So we did and they also said they were not happy with the staff there either . There was also a disagreement between staff coming out from The kitchen . Such a shame really but everyhing else with our stay was perfect .
Location was absolutely stunning, food was exceptional, great programme of artists and staff were very attentive but we must give a massive shout out to Caitlyn who instructed us for archery and we then saw again in the pool and spa area - she was so brilliant and was concerned when my aunt got cramp in the pool and took care of her - Caitlyn is a wonderful asset to her team 👏👏
We were disappointed that we didn't have robes in our room - it wasn't a big deal but would have been helpful when we used the spa.
Clean, comfy beds, fab breakfast and spa facilities
Room as not ready on arrival, staff good at sorting and gave us money to our card to get a drink while waiting
Room large and comfortable, separate bath and shower very much appreciated, well appointed all round, small fridge most welcome. Food very good and reasonably priced, even the bar was not too expensive, Hotel of exceptionally good quality in terms if facilities and cleanliness, did a very good job of blending the 18th century original house with the modern extension, a case of the best of both worlds, Nice garden and outside seating areas. Friendly and helpful staff. Very well placed for exploring the local area.
Slightly slow breakfast service but we were in no hurry and the period setting and views were well worth a wait. Very large hotel, some three or four hundred rooms, might put some people off but as it all worked very well not really an issue.
Good food and entertainment was excellent
Very hot, the hotel needs to purchase fans for each room if we are going to keep getting temperatures like this.
Beautiful decor flowing from each different rooms. Choices of where to take in the beautiful scenery
The distance from car park to the south wing of the hotel while carrying luggage. It requires some thought to how to solve this situation but it needs to be addressed.
Beautiful place to stay, welcoming and relaxing
Lovely setting acres of grounds room modern and very clean.Food ok but not hot wait for meal too long- big party in they couldn’t cope
Lack of basic information staff unable to answer basic request- where can we get a coffee??Rely too much on apps and internet
lovely building and helpful staff.
breakfast opened and 5/6 items including all egg options were not ready. Also our room view was of the back of the service area. Temp 30 degrees and was not a pleasant experience until we paid to move to an room with AC.
It was the most beautiful building with fabulous grounds. The food was of a very good quality and the entertainment as first class. Lots of activities to choose to do during the day with different classes to attend. Most of the staff are very friendly and helpful
As this was our first visit to a Warner hotel we found the website quite difficult to navigate, as this was used to book restaurants and activities. Certainly need to know well beforehand that early booking for most things is essential. A lot of the male waiters were quite scruffy & those with long hair should have had it tied back for hygiene reasons. This is a very large & spread out property & we felt that some requests took longer than expected to be actioned( robes that should’ve been in our room on arrival we’re not there.) We requested them at 10am but didn’t get them until mid afternoon, which was rather annoying, as we wanted to use them at the swimming pool. I think more staff are needed to cover all areas of this beautiful but very extensive hotel.
Lovely property, good good, wonderful staff
Nothing really.
Good location, EV charging points. Comfortable bedrooms, lots of bars and entertainment.
The food was ok, not brilliant.
Location
Worn carpet scuffs in places dining room confusing More catered for the older generation
Its a beautiful venue with stunning scenery. Close to the town if you did venture out. Room was pleasant.
Breakfast staff didnt come to take our drinks order until we were done eating despite asking a few times.
The grounds are lovely, and it's nice that there are plenty of activities available on site. We really enjoyed the bowling, which was one of the highlights of our stay. The room was a good size, breakfast was enjoyable overall, and we felt the hotel offered reasonable value for money. There's enough to do to keep you entertained without leaving the resort.
The biggest disappointment was the organisation and communication. On arrival, we were told that dinner, which we had already paid for through Booking.com, wasn't showing on the hotel's system. We ended up having to pay an additional £60, which was frustrating and created a poor first impression. Unfortunately, the same issue happened again at breakfast on our final morning. Despite having paid for breakfast as part of our stay, we weren't showing on the guest list at either breakfast area. The staff member helping organise breakfast was very helpful and let us in, which we appreciated, but it was disappointing that this wasn't already sorted. The room itself was a decent size, but the bed wasn't very comfortable, the pillows were extremely firm, and the room became very hot at night. The small fan provided wasn't enough, so sleeping was difficult. Although there are lots of activities advertised, some were unavailable or didn't quite meet expectations. The bike hire was fully booked, the electric bikes advertised online weren't available, and our experience at the golf centre felt quite unwelcoming. The swimming pool also felt quite small once several guests were using it. Breakfast was okay, but fairly basic and didn't feel particularly special. Overall, we enjoyed some parts of our stay, especially the bowling and the setting, but the repeated confusion over things we had already paid for made the experience feel poorly organised and stopped it from feeling like the quality of stay we expected.
Beautiful property, lots of space and seating around the building. The grounds were lovely with lots of nature and wildlife as well as the golf course and scenic views. The entertainment was good, particularly Jon Clegg. The hotel is generally very clean however, the carpet was filthy with trodden mud and stones on arrival in another room in my party. The property is well presented and retains its historical values. Amenities were good with games rooms, billiard room and plenty of calm spaces to relax and enjoy. There was plenty of electric charging points and a handy turning point for drop offs.
For the price you pay for this hotel, the service was sub standard, many of the staff didn’t know answers to basic questions about the hotel and everything seemed like a lot of effort for them. Seating my party together at mealtimes was quite the drama repetitively and then we were forgotten about. Orders were incorrect at every meal and basic amenities like salt was missing from the tables. Service was absent, once the food order was taken there was no return visit for drinks, check in etc. The rooms were basic but pleasant however needed some maintenance as there was torn curtains and uncomfortable mattresses and another room in my party was not vacuumed on arrival. The rooms lacked air conditioning and the fridge was not restocked with water. The theatre space was not big enough to accommodate the volume of residents which left many people, mostly elderly, stood at the back. My family member was impacted by this due to a physical ailment but there was little option available. Bar service was slow and drinks took far too long to arrive after ordering on the app. Availability was minimal and staff were unable or unwilling to accommodate requests. There is no room service and on arrival after being stuck in traffic for over 4 hours we were told there was no food being served until later and to wait. We settled for a bag of crisps each as there was no other option. The hotel does not have a snack menu or room service and is too remote to nip out to a shop. The cost of drinks is slightly on the expensive side, which would be okay if there was an acceptable standard of service.
Smelly room Staff at reception friendly but not accommodating when we asked for a specific request after a stressful journey there and we missed one night stay
Everything was fantastic, would highly recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Nothing, everything was on point.
Environment
Check in - having been given keys on driveway they didn't work in the room - so had to go back to reception. Everyone seemed to be having the same problem
