It’s not to the standard as TAJ. Facility is old. Poor maintenance. No fan extractor in bathroom- you suffocate after 5 minutes of hot shower. Bathroom not clean and tidy. Food at breakfast not that great. I had to book shangrila for dinner as the Taj buffet was not attractive at all. Gym was old. Anyway, I won’t go there again

Taj Samudra Hotel Review ​Our stay at the Taj Samudra was fantastic from start to finish. The hotel is in a great spot right by Galle Face Green, making it easy to get around while still offering beautiful ocean views. ​A huge thank you to our housekeeper, Aloka. His attention to detail was incredible, and coming back to such a spotless, well-cared-for room every day made a big difference. ​The team up on the Level 6 Executive Lounge also deserves a special mention. The service there was consistently professional, welcoming, and sharp without ever feeling stuffy. Down at the pool, the pool staff were equally great—always attentive and friendly. ​Overall, it’s a well-run hotel with a brilliant staff who genuinely care about guest service. We'd happily stay here again.

Not much to dislike

The location of Taj Samudra is excellent, especially being close to Galle Face and the Colombo city centre. The hotel also has a well-known reputation, and the overall location is very convenient for exploring Colombo.

Unfortunately, the stay did not feel worth the money I paid, which was around £81. The bathroom was extremely small and cramped, which I did not expect from a five-star hotel. I also noticed dampness and moisture on the walls, and there appeared to be mould or fungal growth around the lighting area, so the room needs better maintenance. I was also disappointed with the swimming pool. Considering the hotel's excellent location near Galle Face and the ocean, I expected a rooftop pool or at least a pool area with a beautiful sea view. Instead, the pool is located downstairs at ground level, and I could not really enjoy the beach or ocean view from there. Overall, based on my experience, the facilities and room condition did not meet the five-star standard I expected, particularly for the price. The hotel has a great location, but the rooms, bathrooms and leisure facilities would benefit from renovation and better maintenance.

Faltaban toallas, no por capricho sino que solo había un juego, plancha medio rota y sucia con enchufe europeo que no encaja en los del propio hotel. Lo mismo con el secador con enchufe europeo. Y si no quieres comprar uno nuevo pones un adaptador...detalles que no esperas de un hotel 5 estrellas

Good location and very relaxing place. Wonderful staff members, especially the kind young girl from the hearing impaired community. They are working under the new tourism framework. My great thanks to her for her welcoming attitude and kindness.

Very bad rooms mold everywhere, lights and sockets not working, sink clogged up, and the worst: very moldy/humid bad smell... The rooms are old and in very bad shape. Overall nowhere near a 5 star rating, more like 1 or 2.. just the staff and service was 5 star. These things are unacceotable for a 5 star hotel and the price is not justified, feels like a scam.

We got upgraded as the hotel wasn’t busy in the first day.

We then extended for one further night. We were told we could keep the same room and had to vacate as the next guest was in the hotel already and they needed the room. 2 hrs later they were still not there and we ended up being moved to the fifth floor which was not a good standard. Not even water in the rooms. With two young kids, that was difficult

The breakfast was quiet good but not into my expectations but overall the breakfast was good we had Indian and srilankan breakfast with some western better if u could add more varietys .. I loved the stay and the location

I loved everything to be honest one thing was that we didnt have the balcony ... but when we went to see a room with the balcony the space in the room was quite too small

I booked for 3 day stay , first day they allotted me in 1st floor which is no where closer to Taj brand. All broken and ruined, while I am aware it’s old property but the maintenance at the 1st floor is pathetic. Plumbing issue , broken bathed doors, tainted bath tub, bathroom doors paint peeled off. Horrible. Day 2 and 3 after complaining they changed me to 4th Floor which gave a true feeling of Taj brand. The dining experience was great duty manager Indunil is amazing guy

We loved the central location to everything and it was easy to get around places.

While I chose the hotel because it is a landmark building - the hotel rooms have not been maintained. The room was dusty, we couldn’t see out the window because the tinting was peeling off and it was not worth the amount that it cost for 4 nights.

Lobby is the only good part of the hotel

the room was run down did not expect this from a Taj property. the air conditioners seem to have been broken. It would leave the wooden floor wet at night. we were out the whole days so can't give a day v/s night... and the staff had no answer. we paid for An upgrad to a suite to get a decent stay which with Taj was expected as the very basic.

I was told that they are upgrading and letting me think for free. But paid £100 more.

The service team took great care of us. Accommodating all our needs. Special thanks to Ravindu from house keeping for taking good care of us and anticipating all our needs.

I had a wonderful experience at the hotel, especially because of the exceptional service I received from Mr. Yasiru at the restaurant. When I went for breakfast alone, the moment I entered the restaurant, Yasiru welcomed me with such a heartfelt greeting and a warm, genuine smile. He immediately made me feel comfortable, quickly arranged a suitable place for me, and made sure I had everything I needed. What impressed me most was seeing how he treated every guest equally—with the same energetic vibe, kindness, and beautiful smile. Whether they were local or foreign guests, he consistently showed the same level of care and enthusiasm. His positive attitude truly makes a difference to the dining experience.

Old facilities, water was dropping from ceiling in the corridor (7th floor), and a wooden plank fell down from the ceiling right next to our child when we were walking to the lift - unacceptable for a 5 star hotel... could have been fatal :(

The service was beyond my expectations up on our arrival from the entrance to the room,the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our Special appreciation goes to M.Asanka the room cleaner Madame Anjalee Rajapaksha and Thathsarani, I and my family are going to miss their hospitality. We look forward to meeting you again very soon.

Our room wasn't provided with water. And credentials for wifi was misleading; field names in the web page and credentials put on paper. Carpets aren't spotless maybe vacuumed but looks dirty.

The reception was nice and friendly, breakfast need to re-look, most stuff found kinda robotic, without smile

Rooms needed renovation and the common carpets and windows can be changed. Introduce some local music for breakfast same like in other taj to keep the standard up
