Beautiful rooms and facilities in particular the rooftop. Very nice spa as well.
Pool closing at 6pm
Everything was superb. The staff were so helpful and accommodating to our needs, the breakfast was delicious, everything was sparkling clean and the location for Ortigia was unbeatable.
The price of wine at the hotel bars. It was €18 for a glass which is pretty extortionate considering the beer was only €7. In the mornings, from our room on the first floor, we could hear staff making lots of noise while they were working and talking very loudly. Luckily, this was only that noticeable closer to the door which is not where our bed was.
Beautiful hotel in a really good location within really easy walking distance to all the food places and wee shops… great staff also… BUT and it’s a big thing… Do not book sea facing rooms if you are staying on a Friday or Saturday night… there’s a pop up niteclub at the waters edge that went on until 2:30 am both of those nights And it was loud Unless you like that kind of thing obvs Apart from that it would have been an easy 5 star so if you are staying during the week you’ll love it (the Sunday was peaceful)
We were extremely disappointed with the service at this hotel. We paid €80 for valet parking, yet it took 45 minutes for our car to be returned. What made the experience even more frustrating was that our car had been sitting outside the hotel for at least 15 minutes without anyone informing us it was ready. To make matters worse, the car had been parked far from the hotel. If we were going to the airport, we would had lost our flight. Instead of apologizing for the delay, the staff repeatedly insisted it was “only two minutes,” even though we had clearly seen the car waiting there for the last 15 minutes. The lack of accountability was also appalling. The service issues didn’t end there. The bellman mistakenly gave our luggage to another guest, and someone nearly walked away with our belongings. This was completely unacceptable and could have resulted in lost luggage. For a hotel charging premium prices, we expected a much higher standard of service. Unfortunately, the valet and baggage handling were poorly managed, and the staff’s response made the situation even worse. We would not expect this level of service from a hotel in this price range.
The premises, the location, the staff
Beautiful location, lovely hotel, fantastic breakfast (with helpful attentive staff) and lovely infinity pool.
Despite booking a tour to Taormina and an Etna winery through the hotel months in advance, and being reassured all was booked (including a high chair) - we found out halfway through our day tour that the winery of our choice was not booked and was full so we were diverted to another “better more expensive winery” (which we were paying for!). So rather than going to Gambino (Google 4.9/5) we were redirected to Cantina Murgo 1860 (Google 4.4/5). When checking out, the bill for the day tour appeared to have been reduced which, under the circumstances, would have been totally appropriate but i later found out that my guests, whose room I had booked and paid for, had had 1/2 the cost of the tour applied to their room without any discussion/ consultation! This was frankly very embarrassing!! The reception desk, whilst helpful, were also pretty limited in their suggestions for local restaurants.

Beautiful luxury hotel with large rooms and an attentive staff. Thank you to Cristian, Antonino, and I believe her name was Marilisa but I might be getting the name wrong as I was in a rush when I asked, but those 3 as well as the rest of the staff made our stay very special. Perfect location as well.
Lindo hotel! Pessoal muito educado e prestativo. Tudo maravilhoso!
A beautiful hotel right in the centre of Ortigia.
There is very little to dislike. I didn’t like the high service charge that is automatically added on to your bill.
Hotel well airconditioned Nice rooms with all comforts Pool is nice Good location Nice place to stqy Check you bill when checking out as they slip in a tax / tip non compulsory percentage for staff which i picked up on . It is OPTIONAL but easy to miss . I thought this was cheeky as id rather be asked and add it rather than just slip it in and not be noticed ? The roof top is sensational but run by a bossy lady who can be annoying . They take external bookings for the roof top and pool and do not prioritise hotel guests which i believe is unacceptable and poor !
Everything about our stay was absolutely perfect. The building is gorgeous, full of charm, beautifully kept, in a great location. The pool was heaven on a hot afternoon after having been out all day, however the staff are the real jewels in this hotel. Every single member of the team made us feel so welcome and went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable. Can’t wait to come back.
Nothing.
Everything was perfect, the service and the commitment of everyone to satisfy any customer need is awesome, begging with the personnel of check in. The room were clean, very fresh, very well illuminated, quiet, etc. The bed was very good and the pillows perfects. Bathroom very nice with a good shower and extraordinary pressure. The terrace offer an extraordinary view of the city and the bay, it is a must to have a Prosecco and enjoy the evening. The location couldn’t be better and is just a steps from the most beautiful streets and restaurants of Ortigia. Definitively I will come back The only down points is the “Tips” that is included in the checkout bill. For everything that I did I gave a tip, so I consider that is not necessary to include more tips in the checkout bill. I know that you can remove it, I did it, but is uncomfortable and not elegant asking for more tips in an hotel like this one, they should leave this type of uncomfortable situation to the USA culture, but in Europe this type of situation shouldn’t happen.
Great location, excellent breakfast, lovely sunset views from rooftop bar, helpful and friendly staff.
We had booked a comfort room, the size of the bedroom was fine, but the size of the bathroom was very disappointing. One had to be a contortionist to get in and out of the shower! Moreover, the water from the shower leaked all over the floor because the shower door did not have adequate seals.
The Grand Hotel des Etrangers is one of the most beautiful hotels we have ever stayed at over the years. Every room in the lobby is done to perfection. The hotel is in a terrific location, with spectacular views of the water. The 7th floor terrace, bar, and restaurant are lovely, as is the pool, and the rooms are spacious and tastefully done. Lastly, the staff could not be more helpful. We look forward to returning here someday.
The roof top pool was lovely. The roof top bar has fabuolous views. Breakfast was delicious.
3 different lifts was a bit of a faff
The hotel is absolutely beautiful looking across the sea and it is in a perfect position to explore the island of Ortigia and Syracuse itself. But what makes a hotel stay special is the being cared for, and the staff here are superb. Nothing is too much trouble for any of them, and they are warm and helpful and genuine towards you. The rooftop bar is divine, with its soft seats and breathtaking views. You can't help feeling like your in a dream sitting there watching the sun set. But don't miss taking time out for a sit by the pool and use the Spa facilities. The Spa has the most amazing hexaganol heated pool, which we relaxed in after a steam sauna and the most amazing showers called 'emotional showers', which have either lemon or mint scented water mist you during your shower. I have never experienced this before and it is superb. This hotel is stunning but made perfect by its people.
Just a note. The spa girls will tell you the price of your treatment and immediately ask you 'sweetly' if you would like to leave a tip. This is very confronting and is an underhand way of taking the choice away from you as it is a form of ambush.
Excellent location, staff were friendly and helpful, room was very clean.
Great location, friendly and helpful staff, very good breakfast, and roof top bar.
Nothing.
Beautiful building, excellent service, great location
The spa wasn’t well maintained and not up to the standard of the rest of the hotel

Tästä olisi mieleistä voinut informoida heti check-in yhteydessä.
Location perfect Staff fabulous
Swimming pool area was closed
Super Zimmer, toller Blick aufs Wasser
Our stay at Grand Hotel Des Étrangers in Ortigia was meant to celebrate a very meaningful milestone: the 30th anniversary of my partner and me as life partners. I selected this hotel more than a year in advance because of its reputation and setting. While the property itself is beautiful, our experience was overshadowed by a deeply disappointing and unsettling interaction with management. From the morning of our arrival on October 3, I sent multiple emails and WhatsApp messages regarding our arrival time, check-in, and room readiness. These messages began while we were at the airport and continued throughout the day. As is clear from the WhatsApp timeline, message after message went unanswered. No meaningful response came until October 5 — by which point we had already been staying at the hotel for nearly two full days. The clearest example of this breakdown occurred on October 5, when I received an email advising that we could enjoy the pool “upon check-in,” in response to messages sent on October 3. At that moment, we had already been guests since October 3. This single message made it unmistakably clear that management had no real awareness of who we were, when we arrived, or even that we were already on property. When I raised this directly with the Reception Manager, his response was dismissive. He suggested that they had two WhatsApp numbers and I was sending messages to the wrong one, but I used that number for eight months through the planning process without and issue. And the messages to the second WhatsApp number remain unanswered as well. He also suggested they did not have the right email for me or there was a system issue but at that exact moment I received our final invoice by email. I pointed this out immediately. The contradiction spoke for itself. The night before our departure, I sent a very detailed and thoughtful email explaining how this experience made us feel, particularly given the importance of the occasion we were celebrating. That email has still not been answered - almost 3 months later. For context, I worked in the luxury travel industry for seven years, and my partner and I have travelled to 77 countries together. This is the first time we have ever felt unwelcome while travelling. While the manager denied any discriminatory intent, experience teaches you that hospitality is not just what is said — it is how someone makes you feel. And in this case, the feeling was unmistakable. It is important to be fair: other members of the hotel team were pleasant and professional. The pool server was exceptional — warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming — and the breakfast team in the restaurant was kind and courteous. Throughout the rest of our journey, we were welcomed with open arms everywhere else, including the Four Seasons Taormina, Monaci delle Terre Nere, Villa Igiea in Palermo, and Harbour House Iniala in Malta. The contrast could not have been more striking. This is a beautiful hotel in a remarkable location. However, hospitality is ultimately about how guests are made to feel. Based on our experience with the Reception Manager, I would not recommend this property for LGBTQ+ travellers — plain and simple.
Excellent location, recently refurbished to a very high standard. Helpful and friendly staff.
Nothing
Ligging, mooie kamer
The location was lovely. They upgraded our room on arrival. The room had lots of space and overlooked the Ionian Sea. The breakfast buffet was good and the outdoor pool area was nice. The reception staff were helpful. The birds singing outside our room at 5 pm was a highlight.
There was a little bit of inconsistency when it came to breakfast. We got charged one day for having avocado with our eggs but not another. One day the avocado was sliced and fresh. The next day it was avocado paste. We used the sauna one day - which was lovely - the next day we were told that we couldn’t use it as didn’t come with our room type. We were happy to pay but the lady made me feel so bad we said we wouldn’t bother. We had drinks outside near the pool - one day we got a bottle of coke and beer. The next day they were poured into a small glass - do you didn’t get the whole bottle.
Locatie heel goed in Ortigia. Verder heel behulpzaam personeel bij de receptie. Verwarmd zwembad.
Zwembad is relatief klein. Entourage om het zwembad beetje ongezellig.
Outstanding hotel in a great location. Room (great view) and entire hotel staff were excellent. Rooftop restaurant and bar were also excellent. Highly recommend!
Excellent staff, excellent service and excellent location
Nothing, Everything was perfect
Firstly the positives- Friendly and efficient staff Beautifully appointed suite. Great location. Even though there is a square on the water opposite our room was very quiet. The non-positives Breakfast was very nice but the room has a lunch room vibe The main restaurant was not up to the standard set in the rest of the hotel. Food was mediocre and service was was not up to standard we would have expected
Beautiful hotel in a great location, the staff were amazing and the swimming pool lovely.
Booked this hotel for our 30th wedding anniversary and it was the perfect present. Everyone and everything oozed quality. Staff were clearly well trained and didn’t just know their jobs, but enjoyed their work . Anna Lisa and Davide in Reception and Eva in the breakfast restaurant couldn’t have been more helpful . They provided information on places of interest and also restaurants that they thought we would enjoy ( and did!) Eva ensured that all my food was gluten free as I am coeliac. She provided gluten free croissants made in the hotel every morning and they tasted great.Gluten free toast was always available along with cooked food and cereal. So much that lunch wasn’t necessary. The whole hotel is also immaculately clean wherever you go. Lastly, the housekeeping staff do a great job, ensuring you always have clean towels ,fresh water and that both bathroom and bedroom are always spotless. Staff are never obtrusive , always friendly and smile constantly, which is probably easier to do working in a beautiful place
The front desk/lobby staff, Carmine especially, were incredibly accommodating and helpful. My wife had a medical issue that staff was extremenly helpful in assisting us in getting to local hospital. You really never felt so alone when you're in a foreign and not speaking the language. Well- that is when the staff stepped up and called a taxi to take us to a local hospital - seen by medical staff- medical services rendered and then had a taxi come and pick us up and returned to the hotel where we followed medical advise and knowing now what was the issue. knowing is powerful. Cannot say enough about the hotel and want to extend a million thanks to Carmine and to her co workers- OUTSTANDING
This hotel is fantastic! The room was so clean, has in room tea facilities and quality toiletries. There’s many towels, slippers and dressing gowns. The breakfast buffet selection is vast and had quality items with gluten free and dairy free options. Cooked items are also available to order. Staff service was outstanding and they are incredibly helpful. The pool area and view are lovely. Great service at the pool too with towels already on the loungers and service to your lounger. The pool food menu is very limited however. The Clou restaurant serves delicious food and has a large wine list with roof top dining and lovely ambience. Parking is difficult as it’s a restricted zone but the hotel offer valet parking for €50 per night. Alternatively, we found €20 euro per night parking in the visitor bays at Porta marina which is 5 min walk from the hotel. Location is great however it is next to restaurant that has an outdoor terrace with very loud music until the early hours of the morning that can be heard if you are in the deluxe sea view room. Room service was efficient with quality food. I would highly recommend this hotel and would stay again!
very little The sun set was pretty from the upstairs bar.
Our suit was very badly designed and not at all comfortable. it was on two levels with a slippery wooden staircase and glass banister - not great in the middle of the night. The wardrobe was downstairs but there was nowhere to put ones clothes by the bed. The bathroom was small and cramped, the towel rail so small that when the staff folded our damp towels on it for the night they were still damp in the morning (the towels were small too) The lighting was far too clever and no light by comfortable chair to read by in the night. lighting system was such that if i got up in the night,i had to put on all the lights and wake my husband, to go downstairs and read The staff were unhelpful, i complained on the first evening and they did nothing the manager was even rude.
First time in Syracuse and this hotel perfectly met our needs in terms of facilities and location. It’s expensive - especially for the sea view rooms, but they are very nice and the view is lovely from them. I would use this hotel again if staying in Syracuse.
The room was not ready at 3pm check in time. We had to wait 1 hour. So we decided to lunch in their 5th floor restaurant whilst waiting. The sliced beef order was overcooked, difficult to chew and swallow, therefore, was left uneaten. The Cafè de Paris sauce didn’t taste remotely like Cafè de Paris. Waitress spotted this and offered to replace with alternative but appetite was lost. The sliced beef was charged non the less and full bill paid.
Great hotel in a fantastic location. Staff very helpful.Beautiful pool with great views.
Almost everything. A beautiful hotel in a wonderful setting and excellent location.
Minor niggles! We wanted English Breakfast Tea bags and milk in our room. We kept asking Reception but still didn’t get them. Our damp bath towels were beautifully folded on the towel rails every day but therefore couldn’t dry. We didn’t need fresh ones!
Location, staff were amazing
Alles tadellos

Felicidades!
This property was perfectly located, impeccable service and a beautiful outdoor pool. The room was also perfect with an outstanding view and modern bathroom. I highly recommend this hotel.
Excellent location - central to everything. Lovely hotel and very friendly staff. Roof top bar is superb and views breathtaking. Pool area small but very pleasant.
Nothing really. Be prepared for a bit of a hike to the breakfast room.
Só faltou um estacionamento do hotel
Staff was awesome. Answered immediately. Dining and drinks were great. Best location
Great location. Good staff.
The room. Very very small for £500 per night!
Hotel maravilhoso , moderno, bem Localizado
Location , some of the front desk stuff very helpful.
First of all, wrong room description, describe 231 sq feet double room, we got room on last floor, for sure it is not 231 sq feet, stay there for 3 days, inside the room smell like public toilets, bring this matter to management, no reaction, in check out when I mentioned again, manager , like she said, gave me 230 euro credit, for room that they are charge me 600 euro per night, and basically my wife didn’t sleep all nights because of the smell. Seco nd breakfast. For 5 star hotel poor selection, stuff not trained good enough to serve international travelers.
The noise from the beach bar
Amazing hotel. Immaculate. The staff exceptional. Compliments to the rooftop restaurant.
Noise from the venue below the hotel (sea side) playing loud music until 2am (can be heard even with doors closed). I advise you to book a room on the other side of the hotel.
Location, beautiful!
Nothing.
The rooms are beautiful and the staff is super professional.
A hospedagem no hotel foi incrível! O hotel é lindo, elegante! O atendimento é gentil e prestativo. Rooftop com um pôr do sol lindo ! Quartos excelentes! Café da manhã muito bom! Localização perfeita!
