Fantastic location
My room was on the small size and at the time the weather was stifling which impacted my sleep. The fan proved didn’t help much.
Excellent location, large car park
Bedrooms unbearable when hot as old building, small windows and no AC
Great old character hotel in excellent location. Very good breakfast and friendly staff.
Not the most comfortable bed
Excellent breakfast Comfortable and clean room Very helpful staff Stylish, historic ambience
Very poor meal choice for vegetarian/ vegans so obliged to eat evening meal elsewhere
Very friendly staff, and the location is ideal right in the centre of town. Generous breakfast and comfy lounge bar area.
Car park can get a little congested and there is building work going on resulting in some daytime noise.
I would have liked to have shampoo in the bathroom . I havd always found it in any hotel or guest house I have been to.
Good location, accommodating staff, lots of history. Good breakfast.
The building works under our room and no way to open the windows- sealed by paint!
The staff are a credit to the hotel , very friendly and helpful
Bedrooms could really do with a major overhaul , I was surprised in the booklet that the rooms have all been done we was on the bottom floor and we could hear the people above walking everywhere creaked all the time it’s a shame because the hotel is in a prime location
Lovely old pub in great location
The only thing that let our stay down was not having a kettle in our room. Using the Nespresso machine to boil water for tea didn’t really work for us. Other than that we enjoyed our stay there.
Location ground floor plenty of parking
Not what we expected. Definitely not an £160 executive suite. A little musty and dated
It was very homely and cute. And the decor was kept to maintain the Inn vibe from when it was a coaching inn in the past. The food at the restaurant was amazing. Reasonably priced with fine dining finishes.
Nothing
Good location for my needs
I didn’t dislike anything about the George.
Goed bed, lekker eten.
Well decorated and comfortable surroundings
The walls are very thin so can hear the conversations going on in the next room. Not ideal when people are coming back to their room in the early hours of the morning. The toilet flushing was very noisy in the rooms which also disturbed sleep during the night.
Excellent breakfast. Central location ideal for exploring by foot.
Bathroom sink was cracked & could do with replacing. Also it had a slight blockage which should be cleared.
The room was spacious, comfortable, spotlessly clean and stylish. The service was excellent and the meals in the restaurant were delicious. The staff were great - very friendly and efficient. Thank you. Would definitely recommend and hope to return.
Nothing
Lovely hotel. Central location and dog friendly. Very old fashioned which we liked. The waiter at lunch time and breakfast was extremely professional and friendly.
We had a nice lunch here. Probably a more inspiring menu might have led us to eat here in the evening also.
Great breakfast
Difficult to find room and loose door lock
Convenient parking and town centre location
Can't really think of anything.
Fabulous breakfast. All items piping hot and very tasty. Excellent efficient waiter. We also enjoyed a delicious 'fish Friday " meal in the evening. Lovely historic building. Excellent helpful staff. Good to have parking during our stay.
Didn't know how to use the coffee machine. Instructions would have been helpful. Eventually worked out how to get boiling water to make instant coffee. We were not supplied with tea bags, only fruit and peppermint tea. Pillows comfortable but no pillow protectors. We stayed in the Warwickshire room, experienced a lot of noise from the room above, with creaking floorboards. Unfortunately, our wing mirror cover was stolen from our Peugeot car , on the Friday night. Hotel had no cctv covering the car park. so unable to pursue this.
Excellent location. staff were very pleasant and helpful
The alcoholic drinks were expensive. They even charged for soda water!!!!
The breakfast was very good Good quality produce well cooked Good choices Friendly staff
It didn’t appear to have been refurbished No acknowledgement of my message prior to stay
Our double room was really spacious. We had a dressing room and a large bathroom which is hard to find these days. Coffee facility was great. Old fashioned classic furniture. Location was great to get back from Rutland Water. Also to go to Stamford and Peterborough.
A fan was provided but for us it was small.
Lovely historical building with decor suitable to buildings age but comfortable and with a sense of luxury
One small plumbing issue that was addressed but other than that no issues
Perfect position. Well equipped. Friendly staff.
Pillows too small and not very comfortably.
Lovely friendly staff, great location, lots of atmosphere. A great base to explore from. Great facilities in the room and a very comfy bed.
Lovely hotel with lots of character, super friendly staff, great location.
Nothing
Full of character.
If you had a lot of luggage it’s quite a walk from the carpark but don’t let that put you off.
Breakfast was good quality and reasonably priced. The hotel had a traditional country vibe and I liked the courtyard garden and seating area. The room was fairly small but comfortable with good quality toiletries. The waiting staff in the restaurant were charming.
The receptionist when we first arrived was a bit unfriendly
Location was perfect and it definitely has a nice atmosphere. The room faces onto a lovely court yard. Breakfast was excellent and the staff at breakfast were really attentive, had a great time regardless of the bathroom
Bathroom needs work and I think the owner may be looking to upgrade them. I’m a plumber so I wanted to get my kit out and do the repairs.
Excellent location, lovely pub and friendly staff
Great location, right in the centre of Oakham, and with a car park. The food in the restaurant was excellent and breakfast was cooked to order which made a nice change from the typical breakfast buffet. Good quality bacon and sausages! Well kept London Pride in the bar.
The mattress in my room was, I think, a little on the old side and was extremely firm (and I like a firm mattress usually), which didn’t lead to a perfect nights sleep.
Easy to find with good parking. Various other places to have an evening meal, which we used every night. I pre requested a hair dryer and this was in the room on arrival.
They had removed the kettle and replaced it with a kind of coffee machine. Fortunatly it also dispenced hot water as I drink tea. The double bed was two divans side by side. Clearly one was used much more than the other which created a dip as well as exposing a hard edge ridge where they joined. They need swapping around from time to time to avoid.
Excellent location with good parking. Good overall on all aspects
Convenient, car park, friendly professional staff, very comfortable cosy atmosphere, enormous breakfast. Can’t fault them.
The location was perfect as we attended U11 Cricket Nationals happened at Oakham school, just 2 mins drive from the Inn.
The room was really hot with a tiny fan....also the double bed was not much cushion... We were a big group and most of us didn't book as B&B, there was only one person at the breakfast and he became too busy..
Location
No A/C Mattress uncomfortable Pillows were terrible / cheap and lumpy
Great location and service. Rooms were excellent.
Warm welcome. Lovely restaurant and bar areas. Pleasant outside space. Excellent location. Dinner in the restaurant was absolutely superb. Pleasant waiting staff. Owner has done a grand job with refurbishment so far but still work in progress.
Rooms a little tired and in need of refurbishment. Sad as they have a charm about them. Bar closed very early for a hotel at 10.30pm.
Location is excellent. Ample car parking. Extremely accommodating staff
It’s an old building so has no aircon. In the June high temps it was uncomfortably hot in the room. The fan provided helped but was small and noisy
Loved the history and the building itself
Not very much
Nice room. Private car park. Drinks in courtyard were great - friends staying in other locations had really noisy beer gardens and so joined us. Close to castle (amazing). Had a great 'car chat' with owner and fellow sport car nut. See Don't Likes. Loved Oakham
Was a hot day/night and across our expanse of windows over the market place the only ones we could open were tiny ones at each end. Radiators turned off. Boiling hot. Resorted to using the table top fans you provide which were, in our case, incredibly noisy and hence, overall, a really poor night's sleep at 'suite' rates. The owner agreed that you should make more of your car park. Had I known then I would have used ,my 'classic' but, as info was absent, just used my everyday car. As a classic/vintage car owner then the first thing, before bedrooms etc, I look at is the car parking!
As always, there is a friendly welcome from the minute you arrive. The rooms are comfortable with good facilities but the quirkiness of an old building. Breakfast is excellent and you are always so well looked after in the dining room.
Nothing
The look of the hotel
Small beds
The location and breakfast was as expected as we use The George each time we visit Oakham.
The room was not value for money £171 as compared to other rooms which we have stayed in the hotel, with it not being very big.
Central location. Adequate parking. Convenient. Ample breakfast menu.
Room could have been larger, was more suited for a single than double bed.
Breakfast
The room was shabby and needs a refurb. Messy plastering and some paint missing. Sofa was sagging
Staff were lovely property was clean.
Downstairs was lovely bedrooms weee very dated and well overdue an upgrade
The staff were pleasant enough, the bed was comfy. I enjoyed breakfast
Squeaky bed. Ladies and their ukuleles in the courtyard were unexpected. Every picture being of a hunt. My husband wanted black pudding which they dont do. They need a fan on hot nights.
The traditional feel of the hotel
The welcome on arrival - a choice of rooms - an excellent evening meal and a superb breakfast. Every member of the staff were friendly and helpful and we will happily come again.
Nothing all fine.
Good friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable bed.
Room was too hot, no airflow or fan.
Location and service
Excellent breakfast menu. Hotel very centrally located. A proper log fire stove in the lounge area.
Characterful and quirky premises with charm
The building feels generally tired. The bathroom was shoddy and dated. The door jammed on the uneven floor and the the extractor fan didn't work. The shower control was confusing because the old system has been left in place with a new one alongside. The lighting in the bedroom was poor and supplemented by lamps on extension leads. The price paid was premium rate due to a special birthday it was disappointing.
Easy parking. Spacious room. Helpful friendly staff
Nothing
Friendly staff, breakfast.
Nothing negative.
Spacious room, very clean Sofa so we could watch tv Nice and warm on a chilly day
Restaurant shut early due to it being a bank holiday so had to find somewhere to eat Lots of stairs to get to room
Great location and friendly staff
The room we had was in desperate need of refurbishment. Whilst the bed linen was clean, the whole room was tired looking and as a result came across as rather grubby unfortunately.
Atmosphere was great.
Tiny coffee cups in the room and at breakfast. Nespresso machine took forever to make a tiny cup!
Excellent service .all staff very nice ,reception staff, bar staff, everyone pleasant.the room was lovely.bed comfy ,shower brilliant bathroom lovely ,plenty of tea and coffee available. There was a heater and fan if required. Breakfast was excellent plenty of choice and tasty. All lounges and bar comfy seating and nice atmosphere. Perfect location
Nothing all excellent
The location is fabulous. The staff here are exceptional. Nothing is too much trouble. Lovely comfy bed and peaceful room. This our second stay at this hotel and we will be back again
Nothing
Nice location. Parking
It’s a bit overpriced at £98 a night with no breakfast
Lovely spacious comfortable room. Great central location. Private parking.
Plumbing noise... but it is an old property.
Everything!
Nothing. Not a bad word to say.
Shabby chic nice atmosphere
Soooo old floorboards creak, al noise travels from neighbouring rooms.
Lovely old Hotel in a great location with exceptionally friendly and helpful staff.
Nothing
Glad to see the hotel back as The George Hotel and much improved.
Bathroom door didn’t close. Very hard to move. Door knob came off every time we opened door, floor in bedroom was very uneven . Breakfast was mediocre.
The building was very interesting, with lovely staff who were very helpful. The detail in the furnishings were exceptional.
It would be very nice if the bar was open later, 10pm was a bit too early, especially for residents.
Spacious and comfortable room Lovely breakfast Nice view from our room
Extra £15 charge for the dog which was fine, but not clear on booking
Great location with parking. Breakfast is about the best you will ever get,
Good location, excellent food and very friendly and helpful staff
Property was lovely, lovely fire
The room was ok
The bed was far too hard
Lovely stay in this lovely period house
Location and quant
