The location was good.

The property is very old and run down. If you have vertigo, don’t stay here! The floors are very uneven and the floors squeaked. When the people one floor above us walked, it felt and sounded like they were going to come through our roof.

Lovely clean bathroom . Great shower . Comfy beds . Lovely and warm . Ideal location for the ferry .

Curtains in room rather frayed so lent à rather décolleté air to an otherwise very comfy room . Car parking difficult as marking of bays rather random leading to a concern of being blocked in -needs bays clearly marked .

Beautiful old hotel. Sraff were excellent. Some areas show a bit of age but it's part of the charm and the room was super. Great to have breakfast included. All the staff we encountered were so pleasant and helpful. I'd definitely stay here again. Location Great for bus and train stations and seafront too.

Very central location 2mins from bus train and ferry. The hotel is an old scottish house with creaky floors and brown wood. The bedroom was well appointed with a comfy bed and sea view on the 4th floor the bathroom was gleaming white with new facilities The standard of cleanliness was exceptional. Self service breakfast with good choice in a large breakfast room. Enjoyed Oban very much.

The location was good. The bed was clean and comfortable.

The Hotel is in need of upgrading. e.g Worn out carpets on stairs, chipped paint and wallpaper and that was the reception area! Not a good start. The bath enamel was chipped, the toilet pan moved while on it. The wooden shelf was soft and rotten. The whole room was in need of fresh decor. The window sash was broken . The window view was a flat roof and a wall opposite. No complaints about that but the roof could be cleaned up. Our stay was only one night but I won't stay there again.

Booked this hotel for a solo four day break . The hotel is badly in need of a total refurbishment . The communal areas are very tired , worn carpets , torn wallpaper , chipped paintwork. My room was ok , clean and the bathroom had been upgraded at some point . Only one bedside lamp in a double room. The view from my window to the back of the hotel was not good , rotten windows , drainpipes and gutters rusty, leaking with weeds everywhere. Breakfast was barely eatable , the food in the hotplates was luke warm and not very palatable . The main dining room equally shoddy and run down. The bar was a depressing place , a relic of the 1980s with a stale smell I would avoid this place at all costs . The only good thing I can say is the staff were all very friendly and were trying hard to please.

Comfortable bed, plenty of almost instant hot water and a good strong shower. Room quite a good size for a single. Happy with cleanliness of room. Central location but still quiet at night. Good room rates when compared to other properties.

Hotel a little tired and shabby and in need of update but this should be no surprise to any potential guest from the relative low room rate compared to other properties in the location.

Quick check-in, good WiFi, reasonable facilities. Location is excellent. The food was nice, including the bar meals, and the latter were uncommonly good value for money.

The walls of my room were paper thin, and made the neighbour's use of the bathroom sound louder than if they were using mine! The window was restrained from opening to such a degree that it didn't offer any ventilation at all.

The whole hotel could do with a face lift. Whilst the bed was somewhat comfortable and the room a decent size the bath /shower combo was difficult to get in and out off. This hotel is a bit tired looking.

Convenient. Good breakfast. Good bar and bar food.

Old building. Creaky floors. One very slow elevator for staff and guests so long waits. No walk-in shower. The main dining room seemed to be reserved for groups so no chance to sample a nice-looking menu.

Only stayed one night as we were on a few days away. The staff were really friendly and checking in was no problem at all. The rooms are clean but mine was VERY small and the bed had a wardrobe at the bottom of it and my feet kept kicking it. The walls must be very thin as I heard the guy next door to me snoring his head off then got up about 2am and decided he’d had enough sleep and put the TV on. 🤬🤬🤬🤬 Breakfast was really nice and the staff were once again great. The hotel is clean enough but it is showing its age and in need of a bit sprucing up.

Very warm welcome, information helpful. Excellent location. Hotel structure kept in keeping with the era when it was built but with modernised bathroom etc. Breakfast was good.

Unfortunately a sad individual did not read the instructions about shutting the bathroom door when having a shower, so the steam set off the fire alarm. We all (mostly) headed out into the street at 6am, mostly in night attire!! The staff and fire brigade were great but it was unfortunate to be so early in the morning!

Bathroom was spotless and the shower was good. The breakfast was ok. I have no complaints.

The hotel is tired looking. The carpets on the stairs are very worn. Hotel rooms still operate an old key system. That wasn't a difficulty but it's just a sign of it being old.

Rooms and bed were clean, hotel fitting are showing theri age. Staff are nice and helpful.

Please note that these experiences were shared by many on the upper floor, as the roof leaks in multiple locations and isn’t being fixed, leading to mould on this floor. The good: The staff were friendly and tried to help, where possible. It’s in a great location, near the ferry station, shops, main streets etc. The so so: our bathroom was newly renovated, and clean. The common areas had leaking roofs (with moudly planks holding the water out), threadbare carpets, uneven stairs. The elevators were very tiny (common in older buildings) and took upwards of 5-10 mins to arrive). Bathroom door had to be closed to prevent fire alarm from sounding (never seen this before). The bad: The room was completely unsafe. The mould was in the floors, the walls, the air. We ended up sick and coughing for days. (Although we attempted to switch hotels, it was too late once we had arrived, as the hotels were all full.) The deodorizer used to cover the smell of mould was overpowering and awful. Paint was bubbling from the walls (mould underneath), carpets were unevenly squishy indicating mould underneath. Please note that this is the hotel used by Globus, Trafalgar, Rolf’s and other major tour companies.

Hotel was in an excellent location, very close to the main harbour area and plenty of restaurants and shops. The lobby and restaurant were cute and the checkin staff were pleasant, but the hotel as a whole didn't really deliver.

Room was extremely hot. We were stuck on the top (7th) floor and the heat was absolutely inescapeable. Fans did virtually nothing and there wasn't much the staff could do. Rooms were old and breaking down a bit. Not necessarily "unclean", but certainly in need of a facelift. Breakfast was very disorganized and staff (at the breakfast) were very green and not very helpful.

This is my 4th visit but leaving a bit disappointed. The hotel is very jaded but my room this time was really poor - faded worn carpets, shabby furniture, curtains tattered and hard to close. No rolls at breakfast this morning at 7.30am. This hotel is in a great position with great staff but......

The location of the hotel is great, just a brief stroll to the harbour. A great place to see the sunset and catch ferrys. The reception was helpful and friendly. Although the hotel is dated.Our room was spacious and clean. The breakfast is self service with a great selection. A lovely touch was warm plates.

A great hotel in Oban and only a short walk to the train and ferry terminals. My room was very clean, the breakfast was amazing, and the staff are friendly. The infrastructure of the hotel is old (creaky steps, seperate hot and cold taps, tiny elevator, etc.) but I think that adds to its charm. I would stay here again!

I stayed at this hotel 11 years ago and it was pretty poor, a family room, 4 of us in a twin with 2 put up beds, I swore I would not stay there again, but it is advertised as being refurbished!!! Superior double room, dreadful, tiny is an understatement and overpriced for the quality. This hotel has not been refurbished, avoid. The staff were lovely, top marks to them.

What are depressingly tired and uninspiring hotel. Walking up the stairs, the carpet is thread back and the cabinets on the staircase displaying items for sale of thick with dust and one of them the lightsare broken in them. The window in my bedroom was filthy, but that was actually a bit of a blessing to try and disguise a disgusting view onto a flatroof outside that was unkempt. The chamber made with the nicest member of staff in the hotel who had the best customer service. The other staff were completely lacking in customer care skills or warmth. A pretty depressing start to the holiday in a very tired rundown hotel

The hotel is old so you can hear every little step of people around you since the floorboards are so creaky. I'm a heavy sleeper, but it could get annoying when I tried to relax before bed. The bathroom was clean, but oh so old. My room also had an awful view with the building blasting strong lights straight into the window at night. I mean, none of these were dealbreakers because the hotel was still great value and I only came there to sleep, but it could feel a little nicer.

Great location, immaculate room, extremely friendly staff. Thanks especially to the desk clerk who let us store our bags overnight while we took a tour to Iona. Great place to stay!

I was disappointed that there was a £10 per day charge for my dog to stay at the hotel.

Had to carry ( aged 80) our own breakfast from 1 st floor restaurant down the stairs to ground floor lounge as we had a wee dog as the lift was prioritised for the two bus tour groups.

Nice selection of cold and hot options,haggis was exceptional and porridge a tastey starter.Hotel is ideally located at the heart of town.

Dated room and badly dated worn ripped carpet on stairwell. Breakfast was poor in quality. Was told some limited parking was available when infact no parking for visitors as its used for staff. Fire alarm went off at midnight with everyone evacuated and not even a single word of apology for the inconvenience of a false alarm especially as we had a child with us.

It was exactly what we expected from an old fashioned Victorian hotel. We arrived very late and it was lovely to be greeted by a charming guy on reception. Perfect fly positioned for catching an early morning ferry.

The room was small but adequate and it suited our needs as we were only there for 6 hours

Visiting for work, I needed somewhere central with car parking. Oban is renowned as somewhere you’ll struggle to get parked. I found a space at the rear and check in was quick and easy. Staff were friendly. I noted the hotel to be busy with coach trips with older clientele which was a positive sign. If it’s good enough for my granny, it’s good enough for me! Haha The bar menu was decent and again, waiting/bar staff were pleasant and friendly. The food was good and reasonably priced. The rooms and internal corridors are a bit dated. Old carpets but the rooms had everything I needed. The bathroom was refurbished and fresh. I’d recommend if visiting for work or tourism. A perfectly passable hotel with nice staff.

Old and dated hotel but reasonably clean and comfy warm bed . Good location for trains/ boats/ buses. The bathroom didn't have a heater, so it was quite cold but plenty of hot water. It is very noisy when people use toilets/ showers as it can be heard from the floor above and room next door, so not good sleep quality. Also, creaky floors. Breakfast was mediocre , poor quality bread and bacon like rubber. Pleasant staff in all depts. Not worth the money they charge ,but it is a tourist town on the west coast . Can't recommend.

Loved how central the location was, we were at the beginning of an island hopping adventure so being so close to the train and ferry was a huge plus.

The super comfy bed and beautifully laundered white sheets. I did get an upgrade from standard single to a standard twin that had clearly been renovated recently but judging by the size a recently renovated single would also have been a good size 👍

The hotel is central and only minutes walk from all transport links. It is clean and comfortable. Needs a refurb but excellent place to stay. Staff are all friendly and very helpful.

Breakfast was the best…all good I would stay again, and will recommend it to my friends could do with a few comfy chairs in lounge.

I loved this hotel. Those who prefer LED lights, airconditioning, automatic doors etc may find it obsolete, but i find it cute vintage/retro :) beautiful old staircase, squeaky floors, lots of woodwork, charming decor. The room was very comfy and spacious, huge bed, super clean, tea/coffee facilities, bathroom immaculately clean (kudos for magnifying glass sticker for makeup:) ). Breakfast ok, quite a selection. Location superb.

We had a pleasant stay at this hotel. We loved the location, and the fact that the lounge is open all day for tea, and then also for drinks in the afternoon. The water pressure in the shower was a bit challenging, and we’d prefer bigger beds, but the room was sparkling clean with warm comfy bedding. The room was well-equipped with a kettle and the necessaries for tea. We were on an upper floor and it was nice and quiet. The train station is just a couple of blocks away, and so are the ferry docks. And there are many places close by to dine in or get takeaway when you’re heading off on the ferry or train. The price was reasonable, and if you want the breakfast buffet it was around £15. Dinner is available too. It’s a sweet older hotel and felt homey.
