We had a fantastic stay at Mitsis Royal Mare and, overall, absolutely loved the hotel. I’ve given it 5/5 and, while there are a few small things that could be improved, we would happily return. The staff were fantastic and couldn’t do enough for you. A special mention to Elsa in the buffet restaurant, who was always so lovely and welcoming. When our mini fridge wasn’t stocked, we made a quick phone call and it was sorted very promptly. The service throughout the hotel was consistently friendly. The food was extremely well cooked and there was plenty of choice. We particularly enjoyed the à la carte breakfast, where you could have a bespoke omelette/breakfast made. I would have loved to see something similar at the main breakfast buffet, such as an omelette station. If travelling with fussier children, I think the options could be a little more varied, although our 4-year-old still found plenty to enjoy! Our room was on the smaller side, but it was very well kept and clean. We loved the little touches, particularly having the wet pool towels collected and replaced each evening, and the same option with the shower towels if you didn't want to reuse them. The only thing we would have preferred was a little more separation between the toilet and shower area for additional privacy. The absolute highlight for us was our swim-up room (1018). WOW! The pool was beautiful and honestly made the stay. It was slightly colder in the mornings, but still completely usable, and we spent so much time enjoying it. Room 1018 was also in a perfect location for us - close to everything we needed without feeling too busy. If you don't book a swim-up room, there are also two main pools available. We didn't use these enough during our stay to give a proper review of them, as we spent most of our time enjoying our own swim-up pool, but it's worth knowing there are plenty of pool options around the resort. The pool bar could get quite busy, but there were other places around the resort to get drinks if you didn't mind walking a little further. The beach wasn't really our favourite, as it's quite stony and we would recommend water shoes. However, that's personal preference, and our 4-year-old absolutely loved it! For entertainment, there wasn't really any dedicated evening entertainment for children, but there were singers, dancers and other performances. Our son loved getting up and dancing, and we liked that the entertainment wasn't too late - it finished around 11pm, which suited us perfectly. There is also an indoor bar, although we didn't use this enough to comment on it. There are also some great options for snacks and later lunches. The Grab & Go had burgers, gyros, chips etc., all cooked really nicely, and the crêpe/waffle station was another favourite, with both sweet and savoury options. And a special mention for the ice cream - so many flavours and our son absolutely loved it! The location was great for us, and the hotel is around 30 minutes from the airport. Our transfer took much longer due to multiple hotel drop-offs, but that's a TUI transfer issue rather than anything to do with the hotel. Overall, we had a wonderful family holiday at Mitsis Royal Mare. There are a few small areas that could be improved, but nothing that took away from how much we enjoyed our stay. The staff, food, swim-up room and family-friendly atmosphere really stood out for us. We would definitely return!
A huge thank you to the entire team here! I would especially like to mention Manolis, Aphrodite, and Irene — truly beautiful people, both inside and out, and exceptionally competent professionals. They are the kind of people who create emotions and unforgettable moments. This hotel is incredibly lucky, very, very lucky to have such wonderful people working here! Every single day, they give their best for every guest and, more than just a service, they give people beautiful emotions and memories that stay with them. We wish them and their families good health, endless happiness, and fulfillment in everything they do! ❤️ Our little girl, Alexandra, has grown very fond of all of them! ❤️ Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything you do! You are truly special!
We have just returned from a week’s holiday at this hotel and I have to say that we had the best relaxing time. We travel a lot and have been to many places over the years, however this hotel tops all others we have experienced. Their customer service is outstanding. Staff are so attentive and helpful. They met all our expectations and beyond. I emailed them before our arrival to make a special request and response was very quick and met all our requests throughout our stay. We tried 2 of the A’ la carte restaurants- Mediterranean and South American and enjoyed both. Spa experience was also great and definitely recommend it. We are definitely returning to this hotel. Thank you to all the staff for making our experience a very memorable one 🙏
Very disappointed as the Tui description states the hotel is in HERSONISSOS but that’s actually a 10 minute taxi ride and it’s not safe to walk this. It’s very misleading and we wouldn’t have booked this hotel as there wasn’t any bars/ restaurants/ shops locally. Very quiet location. The hotel is more like 4 star hotel the rooms are very dated. It’s a very large complex. It is very clean and the à la carte restaurants were very nice. The beach was very Rocky which was disappointing as well. We were glad we only had a week here and not any longer. Lastly a big shout out to Maria at the pool bar. She was lovely with our children and so friendly.
Mohamed great guy and make the best crepes
Wonderful hotel and amazing service – we are very happy with our stay! ❤️ Our stay at Mitsis Royal Mare was a truly wonderful experience. We are very happy with both the hotel and the quality of service. Everything is very well organised, beautifully maintained and kept to a high standard. The hotel is very clean, and the entire surrounding area is beautiful and very well cared for. You can really see that the staff care about the comfort and well-being of their guests. Our room was cleaned every day and everything was always neat and tidy. One of the biggest highlights for us was the à la carte restaurants. They are all lovely, the food is delicious and there is a great variety of international cuisine, so you can enjoy dishes from different parts of the world. A special mention goes to Afrodite Nikiforou, who was absolutely wonderful and very professional, although all the other staff in the à la carte restaurants also deserve praise. The service at Symposio restaurant was fantastic. Everyone was friendly, smiling and made us feel very welcome and well taken care of. We also have very fond memories of the pool bar, especially Vasilus, who was absolutely lovely – always friendly, helpful and smiling. When it comes to drinks, the Minos Bar is definitely the place to go! The best drinks were made by Adonis, who is truly excellent at what he does. And the best waiter there is definitely Rhxdon – incredibly friendly, helpful and always making sure that guests are happy and well looked after. In general, the entire hotel staff deserves huge praise. Everyone was friendly, welcoming and helpful. You can really feel that they care about their guests and want them to have the best possible experience. We are very happy with our stay and can honestly recommend Mitsis Royal Mare. It is a place we would be very happy to return to! ❤️
We were staying at the Mitsis Royal Mare hotel for two weeks in July 2026. We had gone specifically for my wife’s birthday. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel really welcome. Our room (1075) was clean, comfortable and had plenty of storage space: we also had the benefit of a balcony which faced roughly west, meaning we could enjoy the late afternoon sunshine up there should we so wish. The majority of the meals we ate were taken in the Symposio restaurant: there, all of the staff made us feel just as welcome, if not more so, than the greeting from reception. My wife has specific dietary needs, and these were very well catered for by Stellios, the Sous Chef. On more than one occasion he prepared special dishes for her which were most enjoyable, and he would always take the time to come to our table to make sure that everything was all right. And on the actual day of her birthday, the Symposio team went out of their way to ensure an extra-special meal was prepared for her in the evening. (I should also say that we did also eat in some of the specialist restaurants, which we also mostly enjoyed). As well as Stellios, I would like to single out for excellent service: Nikos, Symposio’s Sous Maitre; Pela, who always greeted us with a warm, friendly smile; Fotini, who served us at breakfast almost every day and quickly learned what drinks we preferred; Mariana, who was just as good when serving us during evening meals; Katerina, who worked long into the night to serve us in the restaurant and upstairs bar; and Ioanna, the hotel’s concierge, who was always helpful and well-informed about the area. Special mention, though, must go to Giannis, who served our drinks in the main bar almost every night: when we could, we would sit at the bar and either watch him work or chat with him: during that time, he must have prepared hundreds of drinks and cocktails, and I never saw him have to pour away a drink made by mistake. And an even more special mention for Nextaria, the Maitre in Symposio. She was the most welcoming of all the staff and it was her who made the plans to ensure that my wife had such a special birthday evening meal, even though she was on her evening off on the day in question. The phrase “arrive as a guest, leave as a friend” is particularly true in her case. All in all, I would happily recommend the Mitsis Royal Mare: we hope to go back there soon.
Maria from Delphina pool bar We had an excellent experience at this bar! Special thanks to Maria for the amazing service. She was very friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. Great atmosphere, great service, and we will definitely come back. Highly recommended! 🍹
Maria from Delphinis pool bar is an amazing women, she s making excelent cocktails, and she s full of energy, always smiling! ❤️🫶 We love Maria!!
Fantastic hotel! Great experience. Facilities and food to a high standard. Beach bar particularly good with great menu and choices with delicious burgers and giro’s served up with a friendly service by Afrodite, Stamatis, Jimmy, Mairy and Dayanara.
Mixed bag had 2 rooms as went as a family our room was ok but other room wasent as clean staff at breakfast and tea time were lovely pools were great for us as a family with a child food was ok something for everyone but salty towels provided at pools and beach says 5star but others members in family said compared to other place they have been it wasn't 5star the guest services lady was lovely the manager was lovely but the concierge was not very good I cancelled a restaurant as she dint book it for all of us still got a reminder as she had not cancelled it we could not book al la carte restaurants for all of us as we we told no room although the reception told us we could book 2 days before so book before you go on the Wednesday we got a phone call to the room to go to reception when we got their we were asked if we would like to go to the sister hotel rinella they said it was a marketing thing they do we did go to the sister hotel we had a nice time their but it is aimed at family's which is great but we have pros and cons from both hotels royal mare we perfured the lay out felt not so cramped and the shops were nicer pools better for kids and staff we nicer in rinella hotel felt very closed in shop wasent as good staff were not as nice pool was not good for kids as to deep and the paddling pool was only good for toddlers and baby's 2 of our party liked the food more here than the other hotel the way you could get crepes and snacks was better at rinella as you waited to get it yourself the waiter we had at our meal on the Friday evening was amazing think they said his name was george we were given a lovely room at rinella with sea view only downfall for me was the steps to get to it managed for the two days we were their but a week would not of been good as got a bad knee
We usually go to Ikos and this was our first attempt at trying somewhere new and cheaper. Location great, 25 min taxi from Heraklion airport. Food was fine, but generally quite salty. €10 charge every time you order room service. Resort was big enough not to feel too busy even though it was peak August. However booking the à la cartes was impossible - do it as soon as possible unlike us (there’s an app). Clientele mostly from Russia, Germany and then UK. Quite a mix of people and very different from Ikos so be prepared to accept a variety of manners on display. Some serious sunbed hogging issues - you have to do the same for any chance at getting a sunbed - no one enforces the policy and whole sections are ‘taken’ with no one in the pool, for hours. Witnessed arguments about it between families, quite unpleasant. Be aware of being at the buffet queue and rude guests jumping in front or putting their plate over yours to get the eggs first. Strange behaviour, I can only assume it’s people who either haven’t been on holiday much or are just generally quite entitled. All our white swimwear had green stains from the pool, assume it’s over chlorinated or there’s copper in the water. Don’t bring light coloured swimwear! Decent shops on site for essentials and souvenirs.
We did a nice shoot around the Mitsis Royal Mare hotel with Antonio. Result in some realy nice photo's.
We had a wonderful stay at Mitsis Royal Mare. The reception desk was efficient and professional. Konstantina, at the front desk, was sooo helpful in coordinating a room adjustment for us since I have mobility issues. In all our interactions with her, she was personable and easy to deal with. Other notable staff at reception were Manos N and Michael, who handled our luggage transfers in a timely and professional manner. Our flights had been delayed so when we arrived a day late at the resort, the concierge was able to find bookings for excursions we had missed as well as excursions with very limited availability. The restaurant staff were all welcoming and efficient. Elias in the main restaurant was so accommodating and fun to be around - he was quick to attend to our needs. Mohammed, a waiter in the Creperie and Allegro was pleasant to talk with aimed to please. And, last but not least, Christopher who bartends in the pool bar used his creativity to come up with unusual drinks! All in all, it was a great trip at a great resort😻
Staff are lovely, friendly and very attentive. Particularly Hazel, at breakfast, could not fault her professional service. Did not like Aphrodite in the South American al A carte- she asked us to leave a review, but only if it was 5 stars, do not think that staff should pressure their guests in what to write especially not while they are trying to enjoy an evening meal. Food was lovely lots of choice at the buffet, beach bar was great although twice they lost our order (apparently a system error) and left us waiting a very long time. Al a carte was very difficult to secure a booking, when booking the holiday initially It would have been helpful to suggest booking in advance rather than when you arrive. The rooms left a lot to be desired, they were beautiful once upon a time, but are now outdated and very run down. We booked a double bungalow, which was basically a double room with an extra camp bed for our 10 year old. The pools were a problem, although relatively clean with lots of loungers the health and safety was shocking. It was like an ice rink round the outside of main pool 1, with one or two “wet floor” signs and a couple of haphazardly placed slip mats. Witnessed both adults and children slipping over and hurting themselves on multiple occasions. Nothing was done. My son cut his feet pretty badly on the stones that were in the bottom of the pool. The lifeguard cleaned him up and plastered his feet but the hotel didn’t seem remotely bothered,-‘d just said “does he need the hospital” when I enquired at concierge. No extra cleaning was witnessed although I may have just not seen. All in all a mixed experience, we left overall happy but there is certainly room for improvement.
Really great all inclusive. Highlights for us were: Clean comfortable quiet rooms. You’re not in a big block. Instead the accommodation is a series of smaller buildings so limited or no noise from passers by etc. Food is excellent. Buffet is varied and you couldn’t get bored in a week. The à la carte restaurants are good. Not amazing. But very good. One criticism is that the wine choice is limited with food. However The Minos bar serves amazing cocktails. Loads of pools. Our block had a private pool which we were not expecting. Reserved for about 15 rooms. It was totally deserted most of the time as people gravitate to the main pools. We loved it as it was very very quiet. And we were only 1 minute walk from the beach bar for drinks and food. Only slight negative is the beach. Quite rocky and biggish waves. We found it a bit intimidating so mainly paddled and then went back to the pool. You need beach shoes for sure. But overall not an issue for us at all. Note that there are two shops on site and they sell beach shoes etc for reasonable price if you get caught out. Staff were lovely. Attentive. Place is spotless. My wife had a spa treatment which she enjoyed. For the price point it is as good as anything we have tried before. Recommended.
A really nice place to start the day in a peaceful atmosphere and a five stars service. Everything was perfect, Thanks to all
5 from 5. Amazing hotel. Delicios restaurants. Especially brunch restaurant Pacifico and ladies Afrodita and Irene - thank you for your service and attitude! You are the best♥️🙏 GLUTEN FREE menu is available in all restaurants of the hotel! Restaurants of A-la-carte system are wonderful and must be ordered beforehand - we ordered a week ahead. Food is very tasty!!!
We have just returned from the most wonderful holiday in this beautiful hotel. I was there with my three children ages 9 to 14 and I honestly couldn’t have asked for any more. First of all the hotel is so attractive, the grounds kept immaculately with a lovely Greek village feel to it. It never felt overcrowded and the atmosphere was ideal for a relaxing break away from it all. For us, the entertainment and size of the hotel was perfect but if you like a busy, activity packed holiday for your kids, this may not be for you. Next, the food. I have never been on an all inclusive holiday so have nothing to compare it to but the reason I haven’t is because of the worry of repetitive, mediocre food. This was beyond all my expectations. The buffet had so much choice, something for us all to enjoy and delicious. The à la carte restaurants made the holiday extra special. We were treated so well and the food was exceptional. We all loved each of the restaurants and booked before we went so would recommend doing that. The staff are all so friendly and welcoming. Being a single parent with my children, I felt so well looked after and the children treated with such care and kindness. We’d like to particularly mention Minos and Irene in the Pacifico restaurant - we were treated like royalty! Irene was so kind towards my youngest daughter. Krissa in the waffle bar so warm and friendly and Elleni in the buffet restaurant. She is amazing at her job and we missed her on her day off. She is such an asset to the hotel. Finally our room. You can see by my children’s reaction in the photo how excited we were to arrive and see the beautiful room we would be staying in for a week. We were very lucky to have a private pool- just bliss. (The only one small negative we would mention in our whole stay was that the water made our swimwear turn green and I’m yet to see if it comes out in the wash!). Housekeeping looked after us so well and the mini bar stocked every day. I honestly cannot understand any negative reviews. It was a perfect holiday and we miss it already. When can we return??? Thank you to all the staff for an unforgettable week.
Very very good! Thx specialy to Rhxdon, Manolis..best Captain!, Afrodite and all the crew! Was the third time in Royal Mare and for sure we will be back!
Sadly for us this fell short of 5* lovely greeting on arrival welcome drinks and friendly staff we were advised we were upgraded from garden view to sea view which we were very happy about and although we did have a lovely sea view our room overlooked a swim up pool that we were Not allowed to use, room was very spacious but in need of modernisation only two plug sockets in the room none near the bed... the Bathroom looked like work had started on it doors screwed closed and new door frame unpainted, Bed was super comfy though, we had to request sheet change and never had a bed turn down while we were there, the restaurant was Bland same food every day no effort in any show cooking or theme nights, lacked any imagination, the food was nice but same items everyday, Staff were lovely though, most of them always smiling and happy to help, the private beach area is nice although no thought of the hotel, but sea inaccessible due to high wind and waves for about 3 days, nothing in the local area really to walk to after dinner, on the + side for water park lovers there is one being built just outside the hotel, complex is huge, you could actually get lost, we found the crazy golf down a little path, very disappointing so old and in need of updating, worn out, we didn't use the spa, went in to look around pool area does not look anything like photo's, overall loved crete went to the nearby towns did the train ride, sightseeing tour weather was lovely all week but would not return to this Hotel, was not for us
We stayed at this hotel with our family and were very satisfied with our experience. The staff provides a high level of service, always attentive and friendly. We would especially like to highlight Dimitria from the kids’ club she quickly found a connection with our daughter. Every morning, our child would wake up asking to go back to the kids’ club just to see her. Dimitria is very caring, kind, and truly a professional at what she does. We would also like to thank Ruslan a very pleasant and friendly staff member who clearly knows his job well. In addition to the delicious dinners, he easily connects with guests of all ages and creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
Delphina pool bar staff headed up by Maria are absolutely superb, nothing is too much trouble and the range of drinks is imence. The hotel has been amazing, best all inclusive we have experienced . Will definatley use mitsis group again
Clean Hotel, everything you could wish for whilst on an All Inclusive holiday. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The Jet 2 rep was really helpful and informative. We loved this Hotel so much we have booked a holiday in October in Rhodes with the same chain. This chain really are the best. Thank you to all the staff we stayed in room 723 which had a double patio.
Fantastic trip the food, staff and atmosphere was incredible. The gym was basic but more than adequate. The evening entertainment has been good and easy access to the sea. Sunsets on the roof top terrace is a game changer.
Location was great. Food was wonderful, especially the A’la carte restaurants x staff were super friendly and local wine was a pleasant surprise x
Excellent service and greek live music made our dinner exceptional. Thanks to Afrodite and her lovely team.
Good service, delicious food at Pacifico restaurant.
I really liked service , food and different restaurants. I had breakfast at Pacifico , the food was fresh and beautiful. A special thank you to Afrodite and Manolis for their exceptional kindness and attentive service .
We had an amazing breakfast at Pasifico and a wonderful experience! The food was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. Everything was perfect. A special thank you to Afrodite, Manolis, and Irene for their exceptional kindness, warm hospitality, and attentive service. They were always smiling, friendly, and made us feel truly welcome. They made every breakfast a pleasure and made our stay even more memorable. Highly recommended! We will definitely be back.
We arrrived at the hotel with my family and as soon as we saw the hotel we knew it will be a great Holliday.!!! The food is amazing great traditional dishes plus the gyros and the Greek salad on the beach side restaurant is full of flavour you should try it for sure perfect for a lunch bite .!! The stuff are amazing vey friendly shout out for the bar stuff restaurant Maria from bar Affrodity and lots more that looked after us Great holiday high recommend it .!!

Honestly loved this hotel, so clean, amazing staff, delicious food, helpful concierge, all made my birthday so special, highly recommend.Tue mini. Those to Elouda is fantastic, the restaurants great, the welcome drink is my new favourite drink, plenty of shade, great waves in the sea, we are definitely returning!
I don’t often leave tripadvisor reviews, the odd times I do it is on the back of deserving to be written. I am day 4 of 6 in the hotel currently - got upgraded to a suite overlooking the pool… it’s me and my eldest daughter (10) and she absolutely loves it. Last afternoon we dined at the Italian restaurant and I had to go and shake the chef and sous chefs hand. The food was absolutely first class! I am a big lover of food as is my little girl. The Mediterranean was also mind blowing. I still have the steak and Chinese to come before travelling home. The pool is perfect , all bars are quickly served (can’t comment on evenings as we do long days tanning and normally in bed before 9!) the Buffett breakfast is plentiful and for all tastes - the crepe station is amazing! All staff seem friendly and welcoming. We are here in the middle Or 34+ heat , can’t ask for anymore! The only critique is the shower is tiny in the suite and breakfast is lacking a few items you’d normally expect. Bar them minor things this is a genuinely superb hotel. Thank you Simon
Really impressed with this hotel and we normally like to try somewhere different for each holiday but we are very tempted to return next year. There is such a lovely village feeling to the hotel with gorgeous plants and greenery everywhere. The service is first class, you can book all the a la carte restaurants once for your stay and the Asian was our favourite. The waffle and crepe place was lovely and the ice cream quality very good! Nothing is too much trouble and I loved the fact we didn't have to lift a finger! There isn't anywhere that you just help yourself to food all day (apart from main restaurant for most of the day) but that means no old food left out and going cold or dry. Food and drinks are made to order and you get a more refined and classy feel to your stay. We stayed in a sharing pool room and the pool was spectacular and hardly used by other rooms so we pretty much had the pool to ourselves - it was also a massive pool. Yes, the decor is traditional but not old or tatty and the place just feels so lovely, welcoming and homely. We were here in July and there was evening entertainment such as acrobatic dancers, singers, DJ etc. There was definitely nightlife but not crazy. Also the main pool had some aerobics, water darts etc. The hotel also has some high quality shops and a lovely beach area. The rooftop bar was one of my favourite places and popular at night but we liked to also go after lunch for some iced coffee and play card games. This place is perfect if you want somewhere relaxing, chilled and classy. If you want somewhere more high energy and foam parties, this is not the place for you! Would highly recommend this place and I can see why the ratings are so good.
We stayed at this hotel for a week in May, the hotel itself is really lovely and spotless clean, the staff are very friendly and can't do enough for you. We had fantastic service from Rhxdon at the main bar he always made sure we had a drink. The food in the main buffet restaurant was luke warm at most which was a shame because it tasted really nice but I like my food hot. The Italian was really nice food, and the south American was my favourite, the food was delicious in there. Drinks from any bar is very weak, to a point were I was sure I was drinking non alcoholic drinks. They definitely don't serve premium drinks. If you like a strong drink i'd suggest going to a bar by the harbour. There's plenty of sunbeds by the pool, but it could do with some entertainment or music to liven it up. The weak drinks and cold food are the only reason I didn't give 5 stars.
excellent resort
Had such a fantastic time at Mitsis Royal Mare. This was our second visit, and we loved it! The hotel itself is beautiful. It’s set out like a small village, with attractive buildings and beautiful grounds, and it’s absolutely immaculate, thanks to the army of fantastic cleaning staff and groundskeepers who work all day long keeping everything spotless from the rooms to the footpaths. The food is wonderful. Most of us in my family are vegetarian and we were genuinely spoiled for choice at every meal. Our son is vegan, and to be fair it was a bit more limited for him but nevertheless there was still plenty for him to eat and everything we had was so tasty. They are also really good at labelling food on the buffet to show whether it’s vegetarian and, if not, what meat is in it, which is really helpful. The staff in the restaurants are so friendly; lots of them remembered us from last year and were so welcoming. There are several à la carte restaurants which are all really great, led by Aphrodite and her team, with fabulous friendly service and great food, but the food in the main restaurant was also just so great for every meal and again the staff were so warm and accommodating from the staff greeting at the entrance to the staff waiting on the tables. Although we didn’t need it, I saw the chef take several people round the buffet guiding them on what was suitable for their dietary needs and he was clearly more than happy to do so. The manager of the main restaurant is also really kind and friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. We’re all really keen on fitness, and the facilities at this hotel are some of the best we’ve seen in any hotel. The gym is well-equipped with free weights and a wide range of machines, and there’s also a large fitness room where you can do aerobic work. There’s a good programme of fitness classes every day led by a fabulous team of fitness instructors who are clearly professionals and take care to grade the programme to the ability of the participants, so you always felt challenged but nobody was ever made to feel uncomfortable. Again, the staff in here all remembered us from last year which was really nice. The bars all have a great range of drinks - different cocktails are available in different bars, all made to order not just the pre-mixed stuff you get in some hotels. They’re all really decent, made with real spirits although not too strong. The staff in the bars are all fab. In the main bar it’s waiter service, but the waiters are really attentive and quick to offer you another drink long before you’ve finished your current one. Particular mention to Herson, who was our waiter every evening and is just great. I also need to mention Maria and her team in the Kalypso bar, who are so friendly and warm.
We have just returned from 7 nights at the lovely Royal Mare. Beautiful hotel with wonderful staff who are so friendly and attentive. Special mention to Rena in the main restaurant who served us for breakfast and lunch and knew our drinks order before we asked. The main bar is busy, but all the staff ensured you didn’t have to wait long between drinks. Sorry I don’t have their names but they were great.
Very nice service, and location
If there were 7* I would give . Great experience. Manager attends each and every one Individually. Welcoming atmosphere from staff and manager Afrodite Thank you 💕
We are having a lovely holiday & the ladies in the kids club are the best. So kind & caring for all the kids. Dimitra is my son’s favourite!
Great resort, lovely food and friendly staff. Photography service was really good and got some top quality photos.
We have just returned from a wonderful 10‑day stay and can honestly say this hotel deserves every bit of a 10/10 rating. From the moment we arrived, the staff were absolutely amazing — warm, welcoming, and genuinely committed to making our family feel completely looked after. Our daughter has a severe nut and peanut allergy as well as a gluten intolerance, and travelling can often be stressful because of this. However, the care, attention, and professionalism shown by every single member of staff was outstanding. They went above and beyond daily to ensure she was safe, comfortable, and fully catered for. Each mealtime, the chef personally met with her to go through what she could have. If there wasn’t anything she fancied, they happily prepared something separately — no fuss, no stress, just kindness and reassurance. This level of care meant our daughter felt safe eating, trusted the team completely, and was able to enjoy her holiday without worry. As parents, that meant the world to us. The food throughout our stay was first class — delicious, varied, and easily the best all‑inclusive experience we’ve ever had. The whole team made us feel so welcome, and we truly felt well and truly looked after from start to finish. We would like to say a very special thank you to the chefs who went out of their way every single day: Stelios Rodakis, George Vidalis, and George Fadez. Your kindness, attention to detail, and genuine care made such a difference. A huge thank you also to the restaurant staff — Pela, Nektoiria, and Nikos — who looked after us so beautifully and ensured our daughter was always safe and cared for. Your warmth and professionalism did not go unnoticed. Thank you all for making our holiday magical. This is a truly first‑class hotel where staff go above and beyond, cannot do enough for you, and make you feel genuinely welcome. We will absolutely be returning. Thank you!
Im here at the minute with my family and wanted to say that the staff here are absolutely amazing! Especially Maria and Elivis in the crepe and waffle bar, who went above and beyond for myself and my daughter last night. Their customer service was incredible and so grateful to them for going the extra mile. Mitsis Royal Mare and guests are very lucky to have them, Thank-you Maria and Elvis ❤️
We stayed here in July 2026 for a week. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Rhxdon one of the bar staff could not do enough for you, super chatty and informative. The food is some of the best All Inclusive we've had on holiday. Nice and quiet location but within easy reach of Hersonissos if you like some night life. All in all a great stay we will return. If you're thinking of booking, do it, you won't be disappointed.
Lovely location.. amazing drinks.. rooftop bar and barman Rhxdon were fab
The staff was incredible. I especially loved Maria who was so great and friendly. Staff at the Asian restaurant were also fantastic. Loved the ladies at the mini mart too including Marina. Honestly this was one of the best weeks on vacation ever!
I don’t normally write reviews, but I felt this hotel deserved one. Overall, our stay was excellent. The food, cleanliness, drinks, and service throughout the hotel were all of a very high standard. A special mention goes to the Delfinia Pool Bar staff, especially Maria, who was fantastic and kept us topped up with drinks all day long. Her friendly service really added to our holiday. The food was far higher quality than I’ve previously experienced at all-inclusive resorts. From the buffet and à la carte restaurants to the grab-and-go options, everything was fresh, varied, and enjoyable. The rooms were spacious, very clean, and came with a well-stocked minibar. The only downside for us was the lack of plug sockets near the bed, which was a little inconvenient. The one negative aspect of our stay was the hotel photographer. He was very friendly and chatty at first and offered what was presented as a free photo shoot with a photos available to buy at €13 euro each along with packages. However, this turned into a 45-minute session with hundreds of photos taken, followed by a sales presentation with packages priced between €400 and €600. When we declined, he became quite pushy and noticeably less friendly. I completely understand that photographers often work on commission and need to make a living, but if the pricing had been made clear from the beginning, we wouldn’t have taken part and wouldn’t have wasted anyone’s time. Unfortunately, it left us feeling a little uncomfortable for the remainder of our stay whenever we walked past the photography desk. Despite this, this was by far the best all-inclusive experience I’ve ever had, and I would happily return to a Mitsis hotel in the future, whether it’s this one or another in the group. Highly recommended.
It's amazing person amazing to breakfast this is very care I'm to want to do everyday coming in the that eight thank you very much Afrodite.
This is a superb resort. We booked as a group of nine friends to celebrate our special birthdays and received a first class experience. The rooms were always clean and well-stocked, the restaurants and food excellent, and the entertainment - particularly the daytime pool activities - great fun. However there was one member of staff who went above and beyond to help make our stay extra special. Maria at the Delphinia pool bar was the most friendly, attentive and wonderful lady; our trip would not have been the same without her. Thank you Maria.
Its Maria very friendly staff
Very good, Maria’s coctails was superb
Amazing food and staff Everything was great
What an absolute delight! From the moment of alighting the transfer coach and being greeted and pampered, to the point of boarding said transfer coach a week later we were made to feel like Royalty; and genuinely nothing was too much trouble for the incredible team at Mitsis Royal Mare. The facilities are second to none, the staff are nothing short of awesome, and the food… oh my goodness, the food. Having never previously visited Crete, I couldn’t appreciate how the location fitted into the overall map of the island but the position is great; we hired a car for a day out to visit Knossos Palace and drive into the mountains, and found it to be incredibly easy. Our room was spacious and perfect. Our bathroom was exceptionally clean and well presented, and kept that way by the daily service. Plenty of wardrobe and cupboard space so that one can properly unpack and relax. As the evening approaches and other guests head to their rooms, the most zen-like calm seems to gently wash over the hotel and grounds. You could easily wander around the grounds for ages, enjoying the calm ambience and the friendly (and well cared for) cats that freely enjoy the space. Very good quality towels provided for pool and gym use that are plentifully available. If you get the chance to use the spa, whilst not cheap, I would recommend it. We celebrated my birthday whilst there, and I was fantastically spoilt with a beautiful cake and bubbly delivered to the room. This really was an absolute gem of a find, and definitely only our first of hopefully many stays with Mitsis; they really do put the service into customer service.
We are on our first day here and the service is absolutely fantastic. We are having brunch at the Pacifico and the food is incredible. Thank you Afrodite for taking care of us!
Herson was absolutely brilliant, so attentive and helpful. Main bar has an incredible view and such friendly staff! Some of the food is a little below 5 star but would recommend 100%. Rooms are beautiful and cleanliness is 10/10.
The reviews do not lie! I booked 8 nights here in June and had a fantastic time. Service = We had brilliant service from start to finish with nothing a problem for any member of staff, everyone so attentive so no need for individual names Food = Buffet is pretty much what you would expect, couple of nice surprises with sea bass/Salmon for the fish eaters. We missed breakfast most days but this was a standard American breakfast. Lunch varied a little more however we went to the beach snack bar most days as they made fresh Gyros, Burgers, Greek salads etc and I highly recommend going here! We visited all of the Al a carte restaurants on site and enjoyed every one of them, especially Italian and the Asian. Mediterranean and South American we pretty similar with the brunch being out least favourite but still enjoyed it (Pictures of these attached) Dinner at the buffet restaurants did have theme nights on most of the week Pool = It does state there are plenty of pools for use however it is actually only 2 main pools for you to use unless you have upgraded your rooms for the private pools (we didn't) but we did not struggle for a sunbed on any days and we didn't go to the pool until around 9.30am. Gym = Sizeable gym on site which we both enjoyed in the morning, the supply cold water and towels for you. 1 bench in there with plenty of machines and a Hyrox area which we utilised Rooms = We stayed in room 405 with a garden view- Little outdated but didn't bother us too much as we didn't spent too much time there anyway. Little table and chairs for you to sit out if you wanted a glass of wine before going out to dinner Entertainment = This was probably the lowest part of the Holiday as it is quite limited, evening acts were poor in my opinion, usually from around 9-11pm at the main bar. Nothing much going on around the pools in the day either (which we liked) but others may want more going on Location = Around 30mins from Heraklion airport making it very easy to get to. There is not much around nearby so will have to keep yourselves occupied on site unless you fancy a 3 mile walk. Few notes - Beach is very stoney but again we are pool people os no issues - Hotel does not supply Irons which caught us out but we managed to sort Our first stay at a Mitsis and will certainly be booking more in the future certainly give us value for money Overall 5 starts from us!
Absolutely beautiful resort! The welcome is warm, the choice of food incredible and the staff absolutely wonderful. There's choice between two main outdoor pools and a sizable, gorgeous beach with bar, all in a beautiful setting and within easy reach of lots of different activities and day trips. The on-resort shops are reasonably priced and have all the essentials, snacks and souvenirs you might need. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are spectacular in the main buffet restaurant, with a different theme each evening and lots and lots of choice. The bar at the top of the hotel is a particular high point, whether for a coffee and a read in the morning or a pre or post dinner drink. The specialist restaurants are also a big benefit - book before your trip to guarantee you can get a table at each during your stay as the food and service in all of them are fantastic. The resort itself is spotlessly clean and beautiful just to walk around - i recommend a sunset walk to the beach and taking the long way back to your room afterwards! There was one drawback - the noise during the evening entertainment hit our room hard. I don't know if it's the hotel layout and acoustics or just bad positioning but some nights it felt as if the music was directly outside, (it made the door to our room vibrate!) Considering this goes on from 9pm to 11pm it made getting an early night impossible, which is particularly frustrating as some of the day trips pick up at 530am. There's no real need for it to be this loud, as all of the entertainment is contained to a small area around the pool bar and the speakers are directed at the audience, facing away from the majority of the rooms. The quality of the entertainment was good when we went to watch it, but being able to hear it loudly in our room, every night, until 11pm did sour things a little bit. Other than that, I'd recommend the resort!
We are just back from 10 nights at the Mitsis Royal Mare. This is an amazing hotel and probably one of the best that I have ever stayed in. We stayed at the Mitsis Faliraki a couple of years ago and had a great experience so I expected great things and the Royal Mare was even better. I’ll include the positives and a couple of negatives below. Positives: - Very friendly and helpful staff. The staff cannot do enough for you and are a credit to the hotel. - The hotel itself and the grounds are absolutely stunning. The hotel is huge and it is in a lovely, peaceful location. Every night we went a walk along the beach to watch the gorgeous sunset. - The drinks selection is fabulous, the staff will make practically any cocktail you like. I really love that the choices are not restricted in any way. - The food is truly amazing, I knew the à la carte restaurants would be great but I was taken aback by the buffet dinner. The Asian night at the buffet was delicious and it was probably the best food I’ve ever had from a buffet. Every night there were different options. You will never go hungry! - We don’t have any allergies but we were constantly asked if we have any allergies, it seems this hotel really look after guests with allergies and intolerances. - The à la carte restaurants are delicious and have a great selection of food. Often there was live music which was a nice touch. - The gym area is great with lots of machines and equipment to use. - Good variety of entertainment at night. - Check out was really quick and easy - we could use the facilities all day including the buffet for lunch and had a shower and got changed in the gym/spa area. - Substantial amount of sun loungers. We sat at the main pool most days and got our loungers at around 9-9:15am. Most loungers were taken by 9:30am but I think this is a reasonable time and there were plenty of loungers at the other pool and beach if the main pool was full. Negatives: - At the buffet restaurant we would often wait a while for our table to be set with cutlery and would wait for our drinks order to be taken. I would not mind if it was super busy and the staff were occupied by other guests but sometimes the staff would be doing tasks which seemed not very important when you have guests waiting and we felt ignored. Often we would have to go up and ask the staff for a drink or ask for cutlery which I don’t like doing but as we had waited so long we had already started eating. - The hotel does not provide an iron in the room, we phoned reception to ask for this as we usually do in every hotel we stay at and never had an issue but reception said they could not provide an iron for ‘safety reasons’ but offered a laundry service which was expensive. It seemed a bit silly. - Our bathroom was quite dated and old fashioned. It could have done with some modernising. Also the carpets in the corridors could be doing with a freshen up but all other areas of the hotel were beautiful. - There was a lack of plug sockets in the room. There was only 1 free plug socket, we managed to use 2 by unplugging the kettle but this was the only 2 in the whole room.
We have been coming to Mitsis Royal Mare with our family for 20 years. Every time, we return to this wonderful hotel because of its exceptional atmosphere of hospitality and comfort—it feels like coming back to family and close friends. The hotel is beautifully and thoughtfully designed, with areas perfectly suited both for entertainment and for relaxation and tranquility. The food is excellent, both in the à la carte restaurants and in the main buffet restaurant. The Executive Chef consistently maintains the highest standards. Our greatest gratitude goes to the entire Mitsis Royal Mare team, who make this unforgettable service and unique holiday experience possible. They do everything they can—and even more—to make every guest feel special and truly welcome. The service is warm, attentive, and exceptionally friendly. We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation for the outstanding professionalism that has remained consistently exceptional throughout all these years to: * Mr. Mandalakis Giorgos * Fadelu and Giorgos * Daniela from Reception * Anna from Guest Relations Thank you for your hospitality, care, and excellent service. I am extremely pleased with the results in terms of health improvement, weight loss, and rejuvenation. I highly recommend it! Our sincere thanks to the entire professional Thalasso team: * Roula * Maria * Marina * Eva * Despoina We truly love this place and highly recommend it to everyone! We hope to return again very soon. Thank you for another unforgettable holiday from Irena, Oleg and Maria❤️
We have just returned from a 10 night stay at the Mitsis Royal Mare and would definitely recommend this hotel. When we arrived we were upgraded to a sea view room which had access to a shared private pool which was a very nice touch. The hotel is very well kept and all the staff are very helpful and lovely people, special mention to a few of the staff that always greeted us very warmly and made us feel very welcome and looked after whilst we were there, Katerina in the Candia restaurant, Natasa in Minos Bar, Afrodite, Irini and Manolis in the Pacifico brunch restaurant. The food in the à la carte restaurants was amazing, and the buffet food was also good quality. We also ate out a couple of times in Hersonissos Old Town at a lovely little restaurant called Zachos which had really good traditional food and was reasonably priced, the taxi into the old town was €17 each way. We did go into Hersonissos new town but found that it wasn’t very traditional so didn’t stay for long before getting a taxi to the old town.
Had a fabulous week celebrating our wedding anniversary for the second year running, relaxed and chilled from start to finish in a beautiful shared pool. Hotel Service and people friendly and outstanding . Food very good but cocktails and bar exceptional! Had a problem with our room initially but staff couldn’t do enough to sort it out (thank you Ana). Already looking forward to coming back next year
We had an absolutely brilliant stay at Mitsis Royal Mare and couldn't fault the experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming. We decided to upgrade our room, and the team went above and beyond by showing us a couple of different room options before we made our decision, which we really appreciated. We chose a room with access to the shared pool, and it was absolutely beautiful – the perfect place to relax and enjoy our holiday. The cleanliness throughout the hotel was exceptional. The housekeeping team did an amazing job every day and kept everything spotless. The food was outstanding throughout our stay. There was a huge variety of options available at every meal, with something to suit everyone. Everything was fresh, delicious, and of a very high standard. We usually like to go out and eat at local restaurants when we're on holiday, but there was honestly no need during this trip as the food at the hotel was so good. A special mention must go to the restaurant staff, especially Hazel, who made our stay even more memorable. It was my birthday during our holiday, and they surprised me with a birthday cake and a bottle of bubbly, which was such a thoughtful gesture and made the day feel really special. The service, facilities, food, and attention to detail were outstanding throughout our stay. We would highly recommend Mitsis Royal Mare and would love to return in the future. Thank you to everyone for making our holiday so memorable!
Excellent, especially waiter Herson!
Having just returned from this hotel today, I feel I have to leave an honest review as I genuinely do not believe this property currently meets the standards expected of a five-star hotel, not even a 4 at a push. Upon arrival in the early hours of Saturday morning, we were informed that reservations would be required for the à la carte restaurants and that these could be made the following day. After downloading the hotel’s app, which unfortunately would not work, we visited reception as instructed only to be told that all restaurants were fully booked. We were placed on a waiting list with no guarantee of when, or if, we would be able to dine at any of the available restaurants. We got 2 meals booked in for past 9;00pm because others had cancelled last minute. Both meals in these restaurants only had 1 desert option because they’d run out of food/ other options and we were basically given the last food of the night. We were given no opportunity to pre-book before arrival, leaving the buffet restaurant as our only dining option.Sadly, the buffet was extremely disappointing. Food was often cold, there appeared to be little concern for cross contamination, and the overall quality and variety were far below what we expected from a five-star resort. Many staff members seemed unhappy and disengaged, and simple drink orders were frequently incorrect. At times, it felt as though serving guests was an inconvenience rather than a priority. Our sea-front balcony suite itself was lovely, with beautiful views and a comfortable room. However, there were several practical issues. There were no convenient plug sockets on either side of the bed for charging phones or laptops, just across the side of the room. A bath tub with a rusty shower head attachment for a shower, a damaged bath tub which sliced my partners toe when stepping out of the tub, and little to no cleaning within the bathroom was done on our week stay. despite booking what was advertised as a premium room, we later discovered that many of the pools shown in promotional materials were actually private pools inaccessible to us. In reality, there were only two main pools available for guests. The lack of sunbeds was another major issue. Guests were reserving loungers with towels from as early as 5am at the main pool, clearly they had the same issue, making it almost impossible to find a place by the pool later in the day. There were also very limited shaded areas or umbrellas available. As a result, we were unable to spend two days by the pool and instead had to use the beach simply because there was nowhere else to go. I raised these concerns with multiple members of staff and requested to speak with the Guest Relations Manager, only to be told there wasn’t one. After being promised that a sunbed and umbrella would be arranged near our accommodation, I waited in our room for approximately five hours. Eventually, I received a call informing me that this would not be possible and, in fact, had never been a realistic option. This was despite my partner having spoken to Guest Relations on two separate occasions ( a 10 min walk to reception , there and back each time ) The recurring theme throughout our stay was poor communication, lack of organisation, and staffing issues that were clearly visible throughout the resort. While the location and sea views are beautiful, the overall guest experience falls significantly short of what should be expected from a five star hotel. There is potential here, but substantial improvements are needed in staffing, customer service, restaurant booking management, food quality, and pool facilities before this hotel can genuinely justify its five-star rating. Came home exhausted, not relaxed in the slightest.
Lovely staff here, greeted like valued guests when we first came. The bar staff Maria and her son Aivan were the most lovely and polite hosts! I want to give a massive thank you to all the team for making this a great holiday for my girlfriend and I. The food was also lovely with different options each day, you can also book one of the restaurants in advance I’d recommend the Asian restaurant. Super tasty food!
We’ve had an amazing time at this resort. The staff are so friendly, the food and drinks are fantastic. The rooms are comfy, clean and often have a lovely view. Even though we were close to the main bar, we could barely hear the bar music. Special thanks to Maria at the delphinia bar for being so kind and helpful, and the incredible chef at the restaurants who helped with my food allergies. We’ve had a great time and would love to come back! It’s a convenient distance from HER airport, beautiful location on the beach. A chill, relaxing atmosphere with something for everyone. For the quality of the service, food, drinks and rooms, I’d say it’s definitely excellent value
We recently stayed at Mitsis Royal Mare and overall had a pleasant trip, but in our opinion it feels more like a four-star resort than a true five-star. The resort itself is lovely. The grounds are beautiful, well maintained, and everything is generally kept clean. Staff were mostly helpful and friendly throughout our stay. The pools are plentiful and very nice, although they were extremely cold (which might be expected in April). The indoor pool is warmer, but it’s usually full of kids. One thing we really appreciated was the buffet food, which was actually very good. There was a lot of proper Greek food, which felt authentic and fairly healthy compared to many all-inclusive resorts. Drinks were also good and easy to get. However, there were several things that prevented the stay from feeling like a five-star experience. The room temperature was a big issue. Even though it was April, the weather was warm and the bedroom felt very stuffy. The air conditioning wasn’t working, and when we asked reception we were told it isn’t switched on until later in the season. We had to sleep with the window open, which unfortunately meant mosquitoes every night. The cleanliness of the room could also have been better. The glasses in the room were dirty when we arrived and were never cleaned during our stay, even when we left them clearly out for housekeeping. The floors were quite dirty too, with hairs and dust, and our socks got noticeably dirty just from walking around — not ideal when travelling with a young child. The mattress was also very uncomfortable and felt quite old, which made sleeping difficult. Interestingly, the day bed for our child was actually more comfortable than the main bed. Dinner times in the restaurants are quite late, which isn’t the easiest when you’re travelling with children. It wasn’t a deal breaker for us, but it’s something families might want to know. One positive was that many rooms have their own private pools, which is a really nice touch. When we checked in, I asked whether it would be possible to upgrade our room (I booked last minute and was happy to pay). We were told the hotel was fully booked. However, during our stay the resort actually felt quite empty, so we weren’t entirely sure if that was truly the case. On the positive side, they did manage to move us to a ground-floor room, which helped with our worries about having a young child. The view wasn’t great, but that was understandable given the last-minute change. Spa experience: I was particularly excited about the spa and booked a 90-minute aromatherapy massage, but unfortunately it was disappointing. The spa itself feels quite dated. The relaxation room is essentially a glass room with the same loungers used by the pools, and the indoor pool area is often full of children. There were also no drinks, snacks, or refreshments available. The massage itself didn’t feel like aromatherapy at all — no essential oils were used, and there was no consultation beforehand about health issues or preferred pressure. The treatment rooms were also very bright rather than dim or relaxing, and the beds were fairly basic. The showers and changing rooms felt more like a public swimming pool facility than a spa. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend spending extra money there. Airport transfer: One final point worth mentioning was the airport transfer organised by the hotel, which unfortunately was quite worrying. It cost €55 each way, and both journeys felt pretty unsafe. The drivers were driving extremely fast and erratically — on one trip the driver was about 50km/h over the speed limit and almost hit a dustbin. The cars themselves also didn’t inspire confidence, with warning messages popping up on the dashboard for things like restraint system and airbag failure. After that experience, I would strongly recommend hiring a car instead. Overall, the resort has beautiful grounds, nice food, and friendly staff, and we still enjoyed our stay. But with improvements to room comfort, cleanliness, the spa facilities, and transport arrangements, it could much more convincingly match its five-star rating.
Great views of the sea. Best to hire a car or moped as taxi fares to nearby towns are quite expensive. Very pleasant holiday vibe, all staff are courteous and friendly. The rooms are very nice and clean. The beds are very comfortable. A phone is a must (there is a qr code for everything) A handy hint- if you want to book at one of the many a la carte restaurants pre book at reception.
Brilliant hotel!! We will be back
Amazing time at Royal mare. Special thanks to Mohammed (Italian restaurant), Anna (guest services), Anastasia (mino’s bar) and Aphrodite (Pacifico) they all were excellent and made us very welcome with great service.
What a great place to relax! We stayed for a week in early April and what a trip it was! Amazing food (different a la carte restaurants to choose from), great atmosphere and staff was brilliant especially our bartender Herson who was super attentive and made sure we always had plenty to drink and snack on. He's a real asset and made our stay very special. I'd highly recommend and we will definitely be coming back as it was great value for money and we thoroughly enjoyed our time in Crete
Great place, good food and lovely staff, particularly a big shout to the ever-smiling and helpful Maria at the delfinia bar.
Amazing service from Anastasia in Minos Bar every night of the holiday! So friendly and welcoming! Loved it! From all the crazy Scottish girls!!
Overall, it was a very good experience. The wide variety of food options available, whether through bookings or casual choices like enjoying a crêpe, was absolutely delicious. Most importantly, the following staff members: Ahroditi, Maria (Delhpinia) Maria (Kalypsos) stood out for their friendliness and excellent service, making our stay even more enjoyable
Chambre grande et confortable. Personnel restauration sympathique. Etablissement propre.
What I look for in a holiday - lively entertainment, good drinks, good food, and warm weather. I believe that everyone travels differently and is after different things however, this was not the holiday for me. The buffet food was 4-5/10 Speciality restaurants 6/10 (other than the Asian one which was an 8!) Drinks were 2-3/10 Entertainment 1/10 I wouldn't come back here again, and in all honesty, I simply can't understand how everyone is praising the food. If you're British, think a weather spoons basic meal, but lower quality. The drinks are all absolutely awful and they seem to add bitters to almost everything. Even a basic Pina colada was watery and grim. The alcohol is all non-brand and not strong at all. Staff seemed like they didn't want to be there, with one bar staff member near the beach (Mark) stating how he had just been fired and everyone there were fake and horrible! Stated how terrible management are and that they will be nice to you, then talk about you as soon as you leave. (Absolutely lovely to hear of course 😅) The bedroom was kept clean and well stocked, I liked the kitty cats and me and my partner enjoyed the lay out of the evening bar however, there is no where near enough room. The beach is uncomfortable to walk on but the beach has a nice atmosphere. Unfortunately, I would not recommend anyone to stay here.
Having read most of the reviews on the hotel prior to booking, I wanted to write my own which not only dispels some of the factually incorrect information, but also provides answers to questions I had. We are a family of 4, 2 adults and two children aged 7 and 2. Arrival, whatever time, is seamless. We arrived in the early hours from the airport and were immediately greeted by friendly staff, who were very attentive. At reception, check in staff issued us with our wristbands, these are made from strong soft ribbon, with a plastic clip. My husband and I were given white with my son given a blue one and daughter was given a bright pink one, both were very happy with their new accessory. These wrist bands allow you to be easily identified as a hotel guest. Our suitcases were then taken to our room, and we were taken down to our room in one of the golf buggies. These golf buggies are driven by hotel staff ( our driver Vincent was lovely and gave us a quick tour of the resort on our way to our room at Dimitra 5 which was right by the sea) We were offered food upon arrival, and informed that the buffet was open for late night snacks, hot and cold, until 3am where it shuts for 1 hour and is re-opened at 4am. Our room was lovely and clean, with a bowl of fruit as well as some complimentary bamboo straws as a welcome gift. Also within the room were beach towels, toiletries, which included tooth brushes, shaving kits, a vanity kit which included a hairband! Absolutely nothing was left out!! There was a complimentary bottle of Raki, 2x traditional Greek sweet jars with cherries and a bottle of red wine. The fridge was stocked with cans of coke, sprite, lemon Fanta, orange Fanta, bottle of beer and carbonated water. An nespresso machine is available in the room with 4 pods which are topped up daily if used, as well as coffee, tea ( herbal included) and you also get 2 large bottles of water. The Mini fridge is refilled every second day of your trip, you are given plenty of towels, beach towels as well as bathrobes and complimentary slippers. Our room had a master bedroom, a living area with a pull down sofa bed. My kids happily shared this bed, but I believe you can maybe request a travel cot, but we didn’t bother. The room had 2 patio doors which led to the shared pool. You get your own section to enjoy, and our room was nearby a larger pool for guests to use. The doors have a multi-angle handle, so pull down to lock, pull horizontal to open fully and pull up to open top only. As a parent I was a bit worried about how to keep them secure with the kids, but it would have to be a pretty strong toddler for them to be able to open it themselves and the hotel have put an extra feature on the doors by way of a hook that you can put on, so even if a kid did get the handle up, this sturdy hook prevents them from being able to open it. On our visit ( last week in April) the weather for the most part was lovely, although we had a few windy/cloudy days near the end. With this in mind, the shared pool was cold, but this is to be expected with it not being full summer yet. Due to this the kids didn’t really like to go in, but there is a heated pool at the Thalasso Spa which the kids loved. You can take inflatables on holiday with you for the pool, but there is a kiosk where you can buy every inflatable imaginable. Prior to arrival we had booked our restaurants. This is done through the Mitsis app or website. I would recommend downloading the app as you can do concierge requests through it. Make sure you book your restaurants prior to your holiday. For the kids: There is a wooden pirate ship playground within the massive area where kids can Play. There are sun loungers surrounding the kids pool, which has lots of different interactive water spray equipment. There are swings, access to footballs, basket balls, toddler basketball hoops etc. they have a program for the kids which runs 7 days. The kids program has lots of different activities, some are Greek themed, which is fab, however please note this is not a drop your kid off service. Parents must stay. There is a small amusement arcade at the main building, which you buy tokens for. There are ticket winning machines, but I think some were out of tickets, but the kids enjoyed playing the games regardless. There is a pool table and a few table tennis tables. We didn’t take part in the tennis courts and whilst we went up to the little mini golf, we couldn’t find where to get rackets and gold clubs etc( to be fair we didn’t ask, but I’m sure if we did it would have been easy to find!) There’s a few shops on site, clothing, jewellery and a convenience shop. This shop has everything that you may have forgotten to bring with you as well as gifts and souvenirs. They have a great selection of kids toys. The food throughout the entire complex is amazing. Everything is cooked well, and the selection is immense!! All of the restaurants have lovely staff working within. We honestly have zero complaints about the food. There are options of waffles and gelato, whilst service is a little slow, this is due to everything being made fresh, I can’t complain though, the waffles were amazing too! Thing to remember is your on holiday. You’re not in a rush, so chill out! We had an absolutely amazing time on our holiday, which was made even more amazing by lovely surprise of the grandparents Turing up to join us on day 2. It was my father in laws birthday half way through the holiday and I asked staff where I could purchase a cake for him. Guest services went above and beyond, they asked what room number, what day and confirmed a time we would like a cake. The day of his birthday, an amazing cake arrived, complete with a bottle of sparkly for him. I cannot thank the staff enough for making it a memorable birthday. A day or so before checkout we approached the reception to request a late checkout and this was accommodated, which meant we had full use of our room until our transport to the airport arrived. Staff attended at our room and uplifted our suitcases and dropped them off at reception. I truly do not have any complaints about our holiday. The staff were so lovely and they always made a point of interacting with the kids. We are already booked and paid to attend this year again with the kids, and I’m sure we will have an equally amazing time ❤️
Season Stay at Mitsis Royal Mare We visit Crete every year at the end of the season and have stayed at several Mitsis hotels over the years and have always found them to be of high quality, but unfortunately, that wasn’t the case on this occasion. We aren’t the type who go out their way to leave negative reviews and always make a point of giving positive feedback wherever we stay; however, we felt it necessary to share our experience this time. We originally booked into Mitsis Rinela, but were informed it would be closing a week earlier than planned and were moved to Mitsis Royal Mare instead. While we appreciate that it was the end of the season, by the final few days the resort was literally packing up around us. Many facilities and venues had already shut, which made things awkward and disappointing, particularly given the amount we paid. We always travel at this time of year and have never experienced such a “closing down” atmosphere elsewhere. Our room was fine but quite dated. However, the bathroom caused repeated issues. The sink was blocked and kept overflowing, and when we emptied the bath, water came up through a floor drain and flooded the bathroom. This took a couple of days to be fixed. Although the sink issue was resolved, the bath caused flooding again a few days later. The food in the à la carte restaurants was lovely, but the buffet was a real letdown. Options were very limited and repetitive mainly boiled, stew-type dishes and fried foods. It’s the first time we’ve ever not enjoyed the food in Greece, which was quite disappointing given our previous experiences with Mitsis hotels. The spa offers a great range of treatments and the therapists were lovely, but cleanliness was clearly an issue. The steam room in particular was filthy - the floor, walls, and seats were covered in thick brown sludge, which was honestly disgusting. That kind of buildup doesn’t happen overnight, so it clearly hadn’t been properly cleaned for some time. The door also doesn’t close properly, which makes it even less appealing. On a positive note, the grounds are beautiful and well kept, and most of the staff were friendly and helpful. A special mention goes to Marianna in the buffet restaurant, who was always welcoming and professional. Unfortunately, our experience in the Minos bar was quite the opposite as a female member of staff with long blonde hair (didn’t catch her name) was consistently rude to us each time we visited. We have never encountered that level of unfriendliness anywhere we’ve stayed before. Overall, this was a disappointing end to what’s usually our favourite time of year in Crete. As much as we would like to try Rinela, this has put us off Mitsis hotels.
We enjoyed our family vacation for one week! We loved spending time at cost bar and Herson was very friendly and gave us a nice service! We’d definitely recommend Mitsis royal Mare!!
Herson was a great host and looked after us very well! It was a pleasure to meet him and he made our stay extra special!!!!!
Recently returned from a wonderful vacation at this fantastic hotel . The Mitsis Royal Mare is a relaxed haven in the Crete sunshine. Great dining options to suit all tastes you will definitely not go hungry here from morning to night . Plenty of options for adults and kids alike , whether that be in one of the great restaurants, hot dogs and fresh fruit by the beach or crepe’s and waffles by the pool . Our room was spacious, clean and very comfortable with a complimentary mini bar which was restocked frequently and fresh water replenished also . The hotel wants for nothing , it even has a small onsite medical centre where you can see a doctor if needed . The shingle beach has free sun loungers to soak up the sun as do the pool area’s and we never struggled to get a decent spot . There’s a mini arcade for the kids with pool tables and table tennis tables , an on-site mini market , another kiosk shop that also sells beach and pool gear , a jewellery shop , clothing shop The true highlight of this hotel though is it’s staff , from the moment we arrived to the last moment of our holiday the staff were fantastic, happy to help , nothing is too much trouble to make your holiday a fantastic experience, I could name individuals but it would take too much time , but everyone from reception, cleaners , restaurant staff, chefs , the guys who drive the golf carts, bar staff and the many more who work tirelessly to make people’s vacations a wonderful experience …. You are this hotels biggest asset and I cannot praise you enough , Thank you for a wonderful holiday with my Wife and 10 year old daughter , we enjoyed it so much I’ve just booked to come again in October 2026
Maria and her team at Delphinia are working hard to ensure everyone has a good time on their holidays. Maria always greets us with a smile.
We have had such a wonderful time at Mitsis Royal Mare. They were very good catering to gluten free, and we had the head chef explain what was suitable. Maria at the Delfino pool bar was particularly wonderful and friendly. We are excited to return in the future
Stayed here for 14 nights end of Sept/beginning of October and can't fault anything at all, from check in (& being greeted with cold towels, a local drink and a ride in a golf buggy to your room!) to check out, everything was pretty much perfect. All the staff we met were friendly, lovely and helpful with nothing being too much trouble, the hotel was spotless and beautifully set out, the food was amazing in all restaurants (as other reviewers recommend though it is worth booking these before you go) and the buffet was fantastic with something for everyone. We had a shared pool swim up room which was really lovely. The room itself was big with a very comfy bed and a good size bathroom. The room was cleaned and checked twice a day and the mini bar was regularly replenished. Having our own sunbeds was great although it never looked completely packed out around the pool. The hotel has a bit of beach as well with sunbeds and towels. The hotel also has numerous cats which are extremely well looked, well behaved (for cats!) and very cute. The only small issue for us and this has nothing to do with hotel itself as such, was it is a little far out from Hersonissos (or anywhere) to go for a walk about/explore very much, although there is a viewpoint and small chapel about 15mins walk away, but we booked a couple of days out on excursions which were very good. We had an excellent holiday here and would definitely recommend it.
