Location
Price doesn't match what you get, poor customer service, don't answer complaints, waiting time for check in is crazy, rooms are old, run down and dirty, aggressive fighting 3am waking us up, no corridor security and no phones in room
The location, the breakfast room view.
The staff were unattentive and not particularly interested in delivering good or any quality customer service, the room had maintenance issues, the entertainment was very short, all areas of the hotel had marketing material plastered all over with slot machines in the bar area, many areas of the lobby area were too cluttered with furniture. It is very disappointing that such a beautiful building with its heritage now looks like a run down youth hostel. A real shame!
excellent breakfast on offer. room was clean . the entertainment . the extra tea etc that you could help yourself to.
the only thing i didn't like was only been one double socket which would be a problem if you had a few things to charge.
Location but no parking near all full constantly
Dirty legionella Green algae in the jacuzzi bath never cleaned our room once in a full 7 days even when requested every day after 5 days, Large Rats running wild outside the window of the executive room in the long grass life broke down twice in the week. No refund given even though complained !! Sent videos pictures and proof of all issues refused to acknowledge!!!!
Location was good. But silverfish in bathroom, food was appalling and me and my partner have food poisoning!
silverfish in bathroom, food was appalling and me and my partner have food poisoning! Just disgusting!! I have soiled our matress at home and now have to purchase a new one because of diarrhoea
We like all of the grand, food/ entertainment, staff great,
The rooms could do with a better clean, glass mirrors, hoovering under the beds.
Had no breakfast, so can't comment
Easy check in
Had to move rooms as smelled of smoke. New room had not been replenished with biscuits, hand wash or shower gel Window filthy
The veiw from our window and the reception staff was very helpful
The restaurant staff and the price of the meal
The entertainment was very good and the food was good too all the staff were nice and the location was great lovely views from the balcony
The view from my room was nice, the bath was a good size
Window was dirty and would not stay open. Lack of plug sockets
The breakfast was disappointing. The scrambled eggs were like soup and the bacon was slimy. The cutlery was dirty.
Elevator not working and our toilet would not flush. The windows are are so dirty it’s hard to see through them. The bathroom had a smell and the shower was dreadful.
The entertainment every evening. The kids had opportunity to mingle too
It’s age
Very noisy room
Got moved to another room
Wallpaper hanging of wall mould on window frame
Bugs coming out from back of bathroom mirror and pillows and bed was lumpy cudnt sleep
The room was clean and tidy, the bed was very comfy. The staff were polite. Entertainment staff was amazing. The breakfast room had amazing view. I can't fault our stay.
The room was a little outdated. The spa bath didn't work. The view from the window was very disappointing, a wall. Got lost a couple of times finding our room it's like a maze.... 2 lifts.
Location, view.
Very few plugs and charging points in room. Bathroom well steamy- no ventilation.
The room was big, loved it. All amenities were there
Wedding went on til 12, but can't be helped. Great music
The location
I found moth type bed bugs inside my bedding
Nothing was the worst place IV stayed it was full of muck spiders cobwebs all over and the bathroom ceiling is falling through and is mouldy and I have taken pictures it's absolutely ridiculous
Nothing
It was cheap and well located close to the sea front
The first room we were given was below deck, 3 floors down in the basement, ok it was a budget room at a decent price but no window and it stunk of damp and the air was thick with it, unfortunately we hadn't been to the room until we'd had a look around the town and a few pubs so it was around 11pm before we seen/smelt our room, I went and complained at reception and we were told exactly what I just quoted, it's a budget room you booked if you want better than you need to upgrade , at that point my wife mentioned the smell was aggravating her asthma so off we went down to the basement looking for another room, the first one she unlocked and we followed her in to an instant stink of sewerage, she sort of quickly moved us back out again so obviously she knew we wouldn't be accepting that room, next she sort of knocked and went to open another room but someone answered! So she obviously didn't know what rooms were empty, I think she gave up after that and back to the lift we went and up 6 floors (yeahhhh Windows..) to a nice non smelly room with a window! We thanked her for her help and crashed out even though it was absolutely boiling hot with the window open and the fan on, we can't really complain about the heat as it was the 2026 heatwave but overall it's not a hotel we would visit again
Everything perfect stay
N/A
The hotel itself was very nice and big very out dated but nice decor
What let the hotel down was the rooms and the location, my partner and I were given a room that seemed like we were shoved in the basement, no WiFi as all so couldn’t actually connect to family had to go outside the hotel to get signal so any emergency we were unreachable, the room itself wasn’t cleaned and the maintenance of the room was very poor (maintenance manager myself I wouldn’t pass that) for the price of 2 nights I would have expected more and not too pleased that to get a better room to have to pay more money
The venue itself been coming fior years the entertainment and the view from the balcony plus freindy staff especially Barbra
The lift that goes down make a noise that comes through your feet all way up needs seeing two
There was no working fan in the room. I first spoke to the staff at 3:30 PM, then again around 6:00 PM. It wasn't until 9:15 PM that a fan was brought to the room.
Had a 2 night stay booked with 2 single beds in a premium room , on our arrival at 9:30pm our allocated room had a Double bed in it , complained to reception and told nothing could be done that night , so had to share a bed with my 24yr old son . Hotel assumed me it would get changed after a day exploring Scarborough returned to find room the same , back to reception 4 times + and proceeded to hear every excuse known to man and when asked if we could be moved to a lesser room anywhere in the hotel , shift Manger told me all 417 rooms where sold and nothing he could do ! It struct me as a very well used line . So shared a bed for 2 nights with a very poor quality mattress , didnt sleep so arrived home exhausted from what should have been a nice little break away. So avoid this subpar hotel at all costs .
Staff, location, grandeur, sea views
Needs a general uplift. The outside of the windows haven’t been cleaned since 1972.
Staff were friendly and helpful
No USB charging point. Windows and curtains hadn't been cleaned for a long time
The room was clean and comfortable. The food was HOT.
There was only one choice of vegetarian dinner, but it was ok and thankfully different on the 2 days l stayed.
Check in was easy staff were lovely even when it was abit stressful for them trying to sort out all the extra guests arriving but still had a smile and helpful. Room was good great Seaview worth spending the bit extra all bar staff were lovely. One member of staff even checked what time buses were for us to get to Whitby they are always willing to help. Can't say about food as didn't eat here we was up early and out for the day
Nothing
I had a room in the basement, so no windows, but this is certainly not a deal breaker for me. Access to a bath was nice after walking the coast to coast path. Proximity to the station was perfect and there were some readily accessible places nearby to eat. The value was very good. The lift was a little to noisy around -2 floor and sounded like it was in need of some maintenance.disturb my sleep a little until people stopped using it, as it caused a weird vibration into the lower building. I would be happy to stay there again should I find myself in the area in the future.
A quieter lift. I had registered for speedy check in on line, but my arrival coincided with a coach arriving, so this was quite slow with two staff trying to check in around 60 guests.
As you enter the hotel the entrance hall is wonderful. High ceiling, grand staircase, relatively clean. Despite very difficult circumstances the staff remained professional and polite.
Our first room was on the ground floor. The carpet was dirty, ripped and a trip hazard. The laundry crate obstructed the hallway. The light outside the room didn’t trigger so you couldn’t see the door to action the key card. This room was intended for someone with mobility issues, but it was very narrow leading to the bed. The light didn’t work in the bathroom and had a shower over the bath for washing. Nothing was suitable for someone with mobility issues. Making reception aware of the bathroom light, they sent a handyman fairly quickly however, he was not qualified to fix the issue as it involved the main electrics and there was no-one qualified to do the job. We were moved to another room. First thing to notice was the door wouldn’t always open on the key card, but once in, noticed the door frame had been screwed back in place after, what would appear to have been broken into. It looked like the lock would catch on the misaligned frame before opening. There were stains on the wall where it looked as if drinks had been thrown above the bed and stains down the back of the dresser where the kettle was. The room did have a window, but it overlooked the back of the hotel and its very poor state of repair. The introductory note we were given on arrival informed us that if staying for less than 5 days the room would not be serviced. We stayed 4 nights, so had permanently wet towels, run out of toilet roll, the shower tray remained a slip hazard with the soap dispenser dripping. The shower head was blocked and didn’t run properly. The shower fitting was broken and leaked from the wall. There was no fan in the bathroom and the ceiling was badly damaged by a water leak. The bathroom was dirty behind the door. There was no towel rail to enable the towels to air or even dry a little. Because there was no fan the room remained damp and by the 5th day the room did smell damp and stale. There was only enough tea, coffee and milk for one serving.
Staff were okay. Reception areas are grand.
I was put in a windowless room which I hadn't booked because a number of rooms had maintenance issues so they couldn't give me a room with a window. I found the room quite stuffy. Also my tv had an intermittent fault on it.
Warm and comfortable bed

I like everything it's a lovely hotel
Location.The value,the iconic building.
The staff! Very curt when booking us in.Didnt tell me where my room was so I was literally walking around looking for signs to tell me where to go.Room 11 is impossible to find without directions. Also we were staying fur my mother's 80th birthday, she loves the Grand anc we have stayed many times. I emailed to ask if my mum could have a Seaview room as it was her birthday. I had a lovely email back saying you would be delighted to give her one no extra cost. However she did not get one,so I was advised to speak to her manager who was extremely rude.Spike to me like in was dirt! No apology just basically you get what you pay for.Fair enough ! But my brother booked a room no windows the same time as us for my mums birthday and he was given a Seaview room above the bar! It put a big if a dampener on our visit
Twin room on terrace sea view very clean
Location
Bad very BAD state of repair. Requires closure for the duration of a complete revamp. But Please clean the windows first as they were disgusting. We could barely see through them at all with such a buildup of filth. The hotel was probably once a 5 star but barely rates a one star. In its favour the carpets were good except the bedrooms. SAD
Architecturally the hotel is amazing, the location is good.
The hotel is really run down. Very few staff, although the staff who worked there, seemed to work vey hard. When we arrived to our room, the bathroom floor was flooded, I went down to reception, they offered towels to mop it up. The staff were numb to complaints and didn't seem surprised by anything that was brought to their attention, their response was to email head office. I dont wish to contribute to the hotel demise, but unless your an animal, don't book a stay, there are so many better options. If you decide to stay in the area, its worth taking a look at the building and its location, and imagine what it would have been in its day!!! I promise you will say to yourself, I'm so glad we didn't stay here !!
The grandeur of the reception area. I love character in a building
The room was like an oven. Only a small gap in a small window was open. They supplied a fan but it only had a short cable i asked on reception if they had an extension lead which they said they would address but they didnt so we didnt have a good sleep at all. The shower facility was terrible as the head of the shower wasnt adjustable.
Location and price
The bed was so hard it was like trying to sleep on the floor
Bath room floor
Nothing
The outside of the building
No signal on tele no running water mouldy room bed was shite I know 60 isn’t a lot of money but it should still get you the essentials
We could not get parked, as the long-stay car parks turned out to be 2 hours max, , so after several tries, the last one being North Street we had to cancel our evening. not happy... but the hotel staff were very understanding and gave us a refund. The council needs sorte this out with the information on google.
Good basic accommodation. Always clean and comfortable.
Queuing for 'fast' checkin. Had to pay extra £10 for a window.
Staff were extra friendly and very helpful
Hotel is extremely tired - shower not working properly, carpets with questionable stains, damp on ceiling and walls, windows really dirty , side light didn’t work , only 1 plug point in the room and no USB point, curtains came loose at the top, furniture very run down in the room Overall the whole hotel needs a massive makeover No room available to store any luggage so had to go to another hotel to arrange this
Location, beach front
Dirty windows!! Lacks hygiene, lacks maintenance the staff lack care and reception check in is soooooooooo slow. However great location, one night is enough !!
I've always liked The Grand and this year I have stayed on several occasions and every time it has been a pleasure to stay. Good food, the best views, entertainment and all at a very reasonable price.
I am disabled but many people are not and struggle with parking. Maybe this could be addressed.
Great location, rooms nice and warm, bath and shower in our room and very clean.
Mattress a little thin and lumpy but it’s to be excepted with the price
We lived the location and we loved the steps inside the hotel love the balcony very helpful staff
I was upstairs but went in wrong lift scary down stairs
It is really good located, just a short walk from the station and the city centre. It is also very easy to walk to the beach in a few minutes. The building is amazing, I actually decided to take the stairs every day because they are so beautiful. The terrace is also very exceptional with beautiful views over the bay. The reception staff was very friendly and helpful.
I got a room on the 6 floor and I usually like those because of the views but this one made it almost impossible to move around because of the low ceilings. The room was also rather neglected. Water marks everywhere and surfaces were sticky. The mattress was clearly very old and the shower gel dispenser was empty at arrival. I asked for it to be refilled and I was told to use the hand soap dispenser by the sink! They made a note anyway which was ignored and I had to wait almost an hour at reception for one of the kind reception staff to step in and help me! The carpets in the room were also not clean and the windows had not been washed in forever it seems. Also, I do not mind bird noises but it was very loud since birds were nesting right above my room. Also, the rooms are not cleaned during your stay.
Great location and impressive building. The bed was comfy.
I was placed in the basement with no windows whilst a friend was placed in a turret room with sea views for £2 less. The route to the room was filthy and the room was not very clean - the surfaces were sticky and the linen was stained. The TV was old and the sound was terrible.
Everything
Bed too hard that's all
Everything
Nothing
No shower gel in dispenser in shower (empty)
It’s a beautiful old building. The staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble for them. The entertainment on a ight was great too.
Shower drains were clogged with hairs
Area good
Hard parking took 1&1/2 hr to get a spot room dirty not hoverd crisp on floor and lucky partner found before little one stood on a needle at side of bed
The location
Been coming to this hotel for 7 years and this time staying we was put in a tiny room and there was no hot water for 2 days for a shower and nobody came to fix it.
Location was good and convenient
Went to check in and room wasn't ready so had to wait 1 hour for them to clean and get the room ready which was disappointing as we got there at 5.30 but checking is from 3pm so should have been ready
