Large, well equipped bedroom, ample communal areas, great value for money, great views
Car park all reserved, windows dirty
Location,friendly staff and comfortable.
Beautiful view from the room.
Car park is very small had to park on the street about £10 for 2 days, so it's not too bad.
Nice building, old layout but nice.
I liked it all
Comfortable bed. Good shower
Room lacked plug sockets - otherwise fine
Breakfast was great staff were brilliant
Exterior of building needs work
Great location for the views and also lovely walks from the north to the south Rooms were really cozy and very clean
Nothing, we were pleased with everything
Our room was on the ground floor which was led from the dining area (not particularly good) and the view was a brick wall with car bumpers from the parked cars. The breakfast was ok, just the usual frozen sausages, tinned mushrooms etc. The room overall was ok but the bed( oh my god) was has as sleeping on the floor. In the end we slept on the floor with a blanket that I took myself and I can tell you it was more comfortable than the bed. There was a small fridge in the room but honestly why buy a fridge and not buy new mattresses which would be more useable. To tell the truth I couldn't wait to get home. The area was really run down, buildings boarded up, homeless people all around - no not a good place to stay.
Almost everything was awful. I just could not wait to get home. I would not be going back there.
The location was central to everything, the view we had was outstanding, and the room was just so spacious and very very comfortable 😀 I can not compliment the staff enough, they were friendly, chatty and nothing was any bother at all. I would absolutely recommend anyone staying at the clifton.
The only disappointing feature was that meals ar only served in the bar until just after 7pm so alot of the nights we ate out or brought back a sandwich. But thats nothing major.
Loved the hotel, very friendly staff and very clean
The floor boards was horrendous, if u got up in the night for loo , they woke everyone up, plus didn't like the fact there was a door in our room going into number 5 even though it's locked it's not nice , we found u could hear everything, as we did have bother with them in that room on the Sunday night / Monday morning
Locatia
Totul foarte învechit.
Location, beautiful coastal scene.
Tiny room, single bed, outdated lift.
Position of hotel
Bathroom was very small
The room had no view, although when booking it did state it wouldn't have a sea view (and was cheaper because of this) I did expect to be able to at least see something out the window.
I booked the hotel specifically because it had on site parking. It was not made clear anywhere on booking.com that this had to be pre-booked with the hotel. When I spoke to reception about this, they informed me that it is stated on all sites, but that booking.com like to hide things. When we arrived theer was no space available in the carpark and I had to make other arrangements. On returning home, I looked again on booking.com. It is not clear at all on the site that parking needs perbooking & I had to read virually every line on the site before I found anything about this. I only found it because I was specifically looking for it. These sort of things should be made much clearer at the time of booking.
Great location, lovely clean room , friendly welcome on arrival
Location and friendly staff
Poor breakfast offering and hotel was very tired
Krásný výhled na moře z pokoje a skvělá snídaně,voda pro hosty celý den dole v hale zadarmo
Bohužel se nedalo otevřít okno což není v lete zrovna ideální a chtělo by to update nábytku
Location Cleanliness
Excell views..confortable room. Friendly staff
All good as only stayed one night
Our room was nice and was perfect for us to attend a concert at the nearby open air theatre.
The hotel is looking a bit dated - but this was not unexpected given the room rate.
Staff were nice and the room was good with a nice view.
Our room was too close to the lift.
Staff were good and professional
First room we were given 116 it just had a window right at the top corner take it in consideration the ceiling hight was approximately 8ft couldn't get to in an emergency also you couldn't get to First floor from ground floor cause there wasn't a button to press it was missing, They did give us another room 406 and that was ok
We have been here 3 times this year. We travel from Edinburgh. The staff are a credit to the hotel. They always have a smile and nothing is to much of them. They always go the extra yard
Could the bar please have bottled sparkling water please
Excellent hotel, very clean. Staff very pleasant nothing was too much. Beds very comfortable. Fantastic location. 10/10
Only a small thing but windows need a clean
Staff always friendly. Breakfast very good, pleasant lounge / bar area. Good location for cricket and North Bay Good parking.
The lift worked intermittently - so lots of steps. Room was adequate but bathroom area was small - some lights in the room did not work [ two attempts were made by Staff to fix them - no success. ]
It was lovely building was beautiful the staircase was lovely. Lounges were nice and cosy looking.
The only draw back was the lift was on the small side but we managed.
Breakfast was 1st class. The location was very good.
To have the choice card and cash
Perfect location. Fantastic sea views. Lovely, helpful staff. It was great to have a fridge in the room. Spotlessly clean.
If I’m being picky, the shower was small and a little dated. But I am being picky.
The room we were allocated had a good view of promenade and sea.
The bathroom was rather poor in terms of a bad rusty mark in the bath and a dirty looking toilet bowl. Also the washbasin was small and the water came out of the tap with some force.
Breakfast was good. Location excellent
The lift - people forgot it in the door, so we were left waiting for several minutes several times. A new lift needed!
Sea front view
The room we go put in was a double city room barley fitted me and my partner
Close to major attraction
Difficult to park but pass for on road available
car park
Liz and the team go above and beyond .Always stay here. Rooms are clean and comfortable & location is perfect.
Excellent value, great staff.
Shower gel in the dispensers.
Newly refurbished. Fantastic views
Quiet location and stunning views
It was very good job every way
No complaints
Nice old-fashioned hotel with decent decor and restaurant.
As a single traveller, I booked a standard double room to get a bit of space. Instead, I got a small double, The reception staff said it was a standard double but that it was one of the smaller ones - and nothing else was available. I believe I was discriminated against because I was a single traveller and possibly because I booked through the Internet. The hotel is fine but not the way I was treated. I would advise single travellers who want a bigger room to book a twin room because too beds can't be crammed into a small space!
Breakfast was very good very fresh. And good selection
Nothing really it tick all the boxes
Elevator. Sea view. Friendly staff. Clean. Nicely furnished. Interested to discover Wilfred Owen stayed there and wrote some of his poems there.
When my booking is confirmed on booking.com and payment taken I don't expect to have additional demands from messages from the hotel group saying I need to urgently book in online and then saying time is running out worrying me. ALSO, I would have rated this hotel higher had it not been for my sleep being ruined by a banging Ill-fitting window frame which I only identified the cause at 3am and wedged the gap but it had a bad effect on me and could not properly enjoy the next day from tiredness.
Location was good, we did not staÿ for breakfast this time. Friendly staff particularly on the front desk
Lovely, cosy bar
Nothing
Excellent view, good size room and a mini fridge
Shower pressure could have been better
Great location
Small room
The room was very clean and comfortable with everything we needed. The staff were friendly and accommodating. On-site parking reserved for us.
The bar meals were a disappointment although not part of our package. Frozen battered fish, frozen chips etc etc. This was the only downside to our stay.
Very friendly staff, clean comfortable room, good location with lovely views. The option to have a light breakfast in the lounge rather than a full breakfast in the restaurant. Plenty of on street permit parking.
Nothing to dislike
Good location.
Very clean room with what looked like a new bathroom update.
The hotel is tired and could use a little TLC. The lift was an experience in itself but had a very herbal (weed) smell to it. Room needs updating. Parking on the website states free when it's actually £8 per night book in advance. You can park on the seafront for a maximum of 3hrs for free.
Great location, room was spacious and contained a fridge as well as drink making facilities
Lift was a bit creaky
Receptionist was friendly and helpful on arrival. Room was clean and a good size. Small fridge in room, fan, heater, ironing board and iron, tea, coffee etc. yes you have to pay for parking but you do almost everywhere now. Quiet location overlooking the sea and 10 minutes walk to the town centre
The only thing I could moan about was the reception on the tv wasn't great but for the hour you watch it before bed, it wasn't a big deal
Locaton, staff, value for money Met & exceeded expectation Cleanliness
I enjoy radio over TV in my room The music or media I could choose was tasteful however, no choice
Very clean and comfortable room, staff were happy and friendly, view was lovely. The breakfast was good and plenty to choose from. Short walk to south bay.
Only 1 pillow each could of done with another one.
Bedroom is nice and clean
Lift is scary
Lovely old building with many original features
Nothing
The location is definitely one of the biggest highlights of the Clifton Hotel. As soon as you step outside, you’re greeted with a beautiful view across Scarborough’s North Bay and out to sea. It’s a lovely spot, with the coastline right on your doorstep and the view really makes the stay feel that little bit more special. It’s also worth mentioning the parking. The hotel’s allocated parking was already fully booked when we stayed (spaces need to be reserved in advance and they put cones out with names on) but the hotel provided us with a parking permit disc for street parking and we actually managed to find a space right outside. As we arrived after the daytime parking restrictions and were leaving by checkout time the following morning, it worked out perfectly for us. The hotel itself has quite a traditional feel. While some people may consider the décor a little dated, we actually felt it added to that classic seaside hotel character and for the price we paid, we thought it offered really good value for money.
There was a slightly strange/unpleasant smell in one of the corridors we had to walk through to get to our room. However, once we reached the section our room was in, it was noticeably fresher and much more pleasant. It may well have just been a one off issue during our stay.
Location cleanliness
Hot pipe in bedroom kept room too hot
I was upgraded from a single to sea view double
Evening meals finished at 7pm
Great for the price, location and staff good, room was fine.
Tiny window, room was warm and floorboards need looking at - could hear person in room upstairs walking around from 6am.
Hotel was very close to the sea with easy access to everything Scarborough has to offer. I was given a room with a walk in shower as requested. The room was a good size & so was the bathroom.
On arrival the lift was broken so although I had paid extra for sea view room accessing it was difficult even though I had stated I had mobility needs it became increasingly frustrating. Breakfast times were very odd. Over the weekend when the hotel was packed for the motorcycle racing it was only available from 8:15 till 9 am & I had to leave by 8:15 each morning I didn’t get the breakfast I paid for. Come Monday morning breakfast didn’t start until 8. I did get it this time but very rushed so I could catch my train in time. None of this is explained before you pay in full which is unacceptable. The whole building is very tired & in need of a complete overhaul. The room was baking hot. Only one curtain could be drawn & one window had to remain open as it was stuck that way. My room was next to a set of 1970’s fire doors which were constantly slammed day & night making the whole room shake & obviously disturbing to any sleep. The bed linen was all clean but the mattress was very hard & thin. You would get a more comfortable bed at a Premier Inn.
The staff were great. Very helpful and friendly. The food was very nice, with a decent choice. The view was great, although the windows were very high.
The walls are VERY thin, we could hear people in the next room having a conversation till 1.40am! So for two nights we didn't get any sleep. The room was smaller than I expected with creaky floor. The lift was right outside our room so we also had the noise from people slamming the door from that all during the night. The bed was supposed to be a double bed, but it was two singles pushed together, one of them had a slope, so the sleeper rolled into the centre. The TV is in the wrong place to be able to watch, because it was impossible to sit in the two chairs because they were so uncomfortable they were like a torture implement. And I used the cushions from one chair as a pillow as the actual bed pillows were too high and gave me a bad neck.
Good location for north bay attractions. Private car park
Nothing
The beautiful views and meals were lovely to
Wonderful sea view Staff were very welcoming, polite and friendly
I despise that they don’t accept cash
Szép helyen van. Nincs parkolas, nincs étterme, koszos, igénytelen

Great location. Staff welcoming and friendly
If i was going to Scarborough again, staying here would be my first choice. Yes, the grandeur may be fading in places, but what a building. Better than that though, the staff, without exception, were so helpful and welcoming. When we were there two ladies, I think called Liz and Cheryl were on reception and were so helpful, nothing was too much trouble and they always had a smile on their lips. I paid £50 a night for a double room. Of course it was dated but the mattress and pillows were comfy, the shower was fine and I had a good Internet connection. That's all you need for a couple of nights away.
Some items at the breakfast, mostly the eggs could have been better.
Overall very clean and very spacious although our room was very small .
It was in a very good location and the breakfast looked very good .
On the grounds that I had booked for1 night in room 248, but unfortunately, for personal reasons had to return home the same day. I found the staff to be professional, extremely helpful and polite. The room was clean and well stocked.
The en-suite, with a sink, shower, and toilet, was too small for a larger-statured person with restricted movement. Yes, I know this is not the hotel's fault; I am sure this would have been resolved if I had stayed any longer.
Dog friendly

As always Very clean, professionally run and excellent value
Nothing
Central Clean Safe parking Friendly staff
Place was very clean and tidy rooms were excelent and i would recormend to all how ever down fall was card only no cash and if any one is staying book a parking space altho they do give you a ticket to park on the road side at a price.
Card only
Location great, views amazing
Location is fine but you need to book parking and some staff members have an attitude
Reception lady had a bad attitude
Location Sea view twin room was amazing Paid for parking on site
Nothing
Good locational.
A lovely Victorian hotel a little updating needed but to be expected. Fantastic breakfast and loved the history of the building. Would definitely return
All good for us it was just what we exoected
Cleanliness comforts tea and coffee offerings
Pillows
The room was lovely and spacious.
Outside windows were dirty blocking the view, the restaurant opening times are only listed on the reception desk, and no where else, which causes issues as it's not very clear to see, Bar snacks aren't at the bar. Only 1 window was able to br opened in the room. Hair found in breakfast item (mushrooms), plus the restaurant opens for breakfast ar 7.30am, but hot food only available from 8am. Please having to pay extra for parking even though we stayed there. Only 1 pillow per person on the bed, and no others in the room / wardrobe.
The view
Pillows too hard
Great stay great brekkie. Staff great
I have paid a lot more for far worse, clientele were surprisingly nice
The room was clean but the linen had a few marks. Given that check-in (on their website) was 16:00 and check-out was 10:00 they should be immaculate? But still, considerably better than many rooms at a similar price point. Thanks for a lovely stay guys
Very welcoming, friendly and helpful staff. Price was very good and the room was very clean. Fridge and tea making facilities in the room. We didn’t dine here, so cannot comment on the food. We were just passing through for one night and it met our needs. Great location for views across the bay. Not too far from the centre, although up hill to return which for us was no problem.
Nothing to dislike.
Location and spacious room
Shower screen swings open so flooded floor. Fixed by jamming Matt in it. Also, I didn’t like that you couldn’t book an extension to stay in person because of “gdpr”.
room was excellent. Good views except the windows were dirty.
The lift was smelly. I rang to reserve a parking space but when I arrived no space had been reserved and I was then told I had to pay £8 to reserve a space. This should all have been made clear when I first rang about parking .
Fabulous location, exceptional. The hotel is located in the most appropriate coastal and accessible location, standing out above the rest. Breakfast was delightful, great variety of the selections and the service and staff were excellent. I was really impressed with the communal areas which are many, ideally located and efficiently arranged. I will certainly return.
I think the restaurant menu can be improved, a greater choice in each category is necessary.
Said free parking on app then charged £8 to park
Place was not what I expected. Never gone to hotel where they don't clean the room every day. Having to put your own towels and rubbish outside the door yourself. And I have travelled the world
Most of the trip.
Waiting for the lift. We were on a two day trip and had to wait for the lift on more than a few occasions because patrons very often forget to close the lift properly, rendering it useless at times.
helpful staff. we had a fridge in one of the rooms. quiet hotel near the beach.
no fridge in one room. Parking was full so we had to pay street parking
Hotel could do with a lick of paint, sea view was lovely but the windows were in need of a decent clean. Room was clean but on a slope so made me fell a bit unsteady on my feet, could only open 1 window a couple of inches but it wasnt too bad as it wasnt hot. Breakfast was ok but nothing special. I did expect better quality for over £180 for 1 night.
The location, plenty of street parking with disc from hotel. The room was clean & great value for money. I didn’t have any food.
The window was designed to not open which made the room stuffy, apparently its a ‘safety measure’.
Great views and parking was easy
Some areas could do with a freshen up
Very friendly styaff, and breakfast was very good
Location, price for room, hotel was lovely, staff were lovely, facilities, cleanliness were all great
Great location
A little dated. Musty smell in room
