Très bien placé, au cœur de Grindenwald. Un personnel très professionnel. Notre chambre était très grande, propre bien équipée et la vue magnifique sur les montagnes. Nous avons reçu un verre de Proseco gratuit en guise de bienvenue.

Location and views were phenomenal. Service was superb. Shout out to Alan in the bar, who was attentive, professional and made us feel very welcome.

Like other reviews, we did feel the room was warm. The fan helped but was noisy. That said, we both agreed the views more than made up for this and wouldn’t have changed our decision to stay here.

Indoor pool is good

It was very centrally located with many good places to shop and eat nearby. It is just across the street from the entrance to Grindelwald First.

Our only issue was the hair dryer not working but it was promptly replaced. Be aware there is no air conditioning, but a fan was provided. As usual there are no window screens so expect some bugs if you leave the door/window open.

Amazing location, clean, beautiful big room. The views were STUNNING. Best views in town. Amazing staff and facilities.

The balcony view of Eiger was priceless.

The room itself doesn’t have air con, so best to leave the balcony door slightly open for air flow. Overall you can tell the room is a bit dated but the price you pay is for the view I guess.

Our family of 6 shared a 2 bed suite. Room was to a good standard. Much more traditional Swiss than modern but that was fine by us. The Eiger view from the room balcony and hotel bar was spectacular. Breakfast was very good. Staff very friendly. The hotel is very well located and served as a great base for exploring Grindelwald and further afield with easy access to train station and cable car.

Probably the best location in Grindlwald! - i've stayed here a number of times on motorcycle tours either with my wife or daughter as passenger. Its always been very very good. (for clarity, i have stayed at other locations too) The rooms are spacious and comfortable. You don't need air-conditioning at this altitude as even on the hottest days it cools significantly at night - so the room was nice and cool to sleep in. Grindlwald is always silent at night too. I like that the mini-bar is included in the room rate - i think this is great and there was water, a couple of soft-drinks and a couple of (really quite nice) non-alcoholic beers in the fridge for us to enjoy. In addition, we received a ticket for a welcome drink at the bar which again, i think is a very nice touch. The pool area and the pool itself have recently been refurbished - the pool itself being a lovely warm pool with spa-like features which is really nice. If you have the weather, as we did, then getting out of the pool and heading out to the patio to use a sun lounger looking up at the north face of the Eiger is really one of life's greatest treasures! It doesn't get much better than this and that's why the hotel is in the best location in the town.

For UK travellers the whole of switzerland is expensive - it just is! - and this hotel is no exception - but as noted above, its worth paying extra for to gain things like the pool and the sun terrace.

We have recently returned from a most enjoyable week’s stay at the lovely four star Sunstar Hotel in the popular tourist town of Grindelwald in the Berner Oberland. The hotel is situated at the south end of the town, and is across the road from the First Cable-car Station. The hotel is everything one would want: charming, personable staff (particularly Samo, and the dining room staff Kristina and Barbara) who efficiently and courteously attended to their guests; spacious, well-equipped, and spotlessly clean en-suite rooms; a very beautiful well-ness / spa area, and swimming pool (being refurbished as of June 2026). A very extensive breakfast buffet offered a wide selection of both hot and cold foods, and beverages. Dinner was something that we eagerly looked forward to each day. The four-course evening meals were simply superb - flavourful, properly portioned, and served by the delightful staff. Grindelwald is a busy tourist town - and for a reason. The surrounding scenery is everything and more that you may have heard about. This is scenery on steroids! The Berner Oberland offers a plethora of varied walking, and hiking trails for every ability. Grindelwald is perfectly situated for the holiday-maker to avail of these trails thanks to the area’s numerous cable-cars, gondolas, trains, and coaches. These are covered by the Berner Oberland Pass (an essential purchase) which also covers the steamers on Lakes Brienz and Thun, and the train to Bern - well worth seeing! It gives me great pleasure to highly recommend Grindelwald, and the Sunstar Hotel. Both are perfect for the keen walker (of whatever ability), or for someone who simply wants an away-from-it-all relaxing stay. The Sunstar Hotel can be booked with confidence - you will definitely not be disappointed! Both the resort and hotel more than tick all the boxes!

My family stayed for 2 full days. The first day we walked leisurely down the main street and looked inside shops and had lunch. The second day we took a few trains to see the attractions at Jungfraujoch. The room was clean except for a few hairs on the sheets, which is inevitable. We had a mini fridge, coffee maker, closet, desk, TV, chairs, and a fairly sizable balcony looking out at the mountains. I appreciated the candies we were surprised with on our beds too. The reception was easy and friendly, and I was able to purchase stamps for postcards. The lobby is spacious and comes with an adorable, beautiful cat! The noise was okay, we could hear people nearby the room and the balcony, but again that is inevitable. The few complaints I have is about the flies, mosquitoes, and hornets but I respect the hotel’s eco friendly approach to not use harsh chemicals to get rid of them. Also, the room got very hot, even after dark. But we had a fan provided in the room which was helpful. Overall I’d recommend the SunStar hotel to others.

少し早くついたため、荷物を預けようとしたらアーリーチェックインさせていただきました。 また、夜間もランドリー関係でご対応いただいた点などもあり、本当に助かりました。 部屋からも山がきれいに見え、バルコニーで飲みながらぼーっと景色を眺めたりなど、とてもいい時間を過ごさせていただきました。 (アイガービューとシティービュー？(フィルスト側)があるので、部屋によっては評価が変わるかも) スパも山々を見ながらリラックスできます。 朝食会場にもテラス席があるので朝に綺麗な山々を見ながら優雅に朝食を食べられます。 (2026/8/3時点、8時過ぎになるとテラス席が直射日光に照らされるため、テラス席使用の場合は8時頃までをお勧めします) またグリンデルワルトに来る時は、ここを選ぶと思います。

ホテル併設のレストランはとても美味しいのですが、営業時間になるとおそらくそこで使用しているチーズ？の匂いがエレベーター付近に充満することがあります(2日泊まりましたが２日目は少ししか匂いませんでした、慣れたかも？)。 他の外部のレストラン前でも感じるため、気になって 調べてみたところおそらくラクレットやチーズフォンデュ系の何かだと思います。ただ、個人的(日本人的…？)にはあまり馴染みがないので獣系(犬っぽい…？)の匂いが少しきつかったです。ただ、お部屋には全く影響ないのと、私に馴染みがないだけだと思うので低評価にはしていません。匂いに敏感な方は少しご考慮ください。

The room space and view was amazing

This was one of only 2 hotels which showed vacancies for our last minute trip to meet friends staying in Grindelwald. It is not the kind of hotel we would usually pick (big, modern, lots of tourists arriving in busloads) but it was very comfortable. We had a nice room (only one left - a junior suite) which was large, quiet with a balcony and a lovely view of the big mountains. We were able to park our motorbikes in the outside parking area (fee) and it is conveniently located in central Grindelwald. All the staff were smiley and helpful.

Unfortunately there was no swimming pool as it was "under construction" which was a disappointment. The only things we didn't like were associated with the size and type of hotel catering to large groups of tourists. Other than that personal preference, the only thing I perhaps found disappointing was breakfast where I had hoped the international clientele might have meant a wider choice of breakfast foods, but it was very European. It was very expensive but we were booking last-minute in high season.

Freundlichkeit und zentrale Lage

I booked the hotel for location and facilities but on arrival there was ongoing construction, swimming pool was not available and there was a very bad smell in the reception and restuarant. Food was not great, menu pricing was incorrect and staff service was poor, reception staff were rude with the exception of one very nice and helpful bar man. There was no notice on the website at the time of booking that there was construction and reduced services. overall very disappointed and overpriced due to the ongoing construction

Grindelwald is beautiful and everything is convenient. There are activities for all ages, so its great for families with kids as well as both active and semi-active adults. Its easy to reach several different mountains and cable cars. A complimentary Guest Card is included with the hotel which covers free bus fare and other benefits, so its extremely easy to get around. The Sunstar constantly runs shuttles to the train station by request, so there are no worries about transporting luggage to the hotel. We contacted the hotel a couple of days before we arrived to be sure we'd have room on a shuttle - and I'd recommend doing that to avoid delays on your arrival. Many travelers buy either a full fare or half fare transit card, and with those its quick and inexpensive to use Grindelwald as a hub to visit nearby towns also. We spent a day in Lauterbrunnen, for example. The Sunstar is a very smooth running hotel. We found the staff to be informed and efficient, but always relaxed and ready for anything. The breakfast is as good as any you will find. We had a spacious room facing the Eiger mountain. The hotel is a little older than some, but that adds to its authentic charm. It is well maintained. I do hope that air-conditioning is added soon, however. Regarding previous sauna/pool comments, I also wish the hotel had contacted us and let us know that the pool would be closed as it is being modernized. The existence of the pool and spa was important to our booking decision. They did, however, make arrangements with an adjacent hotel for pool access. A portion of the new spa facility is now open, and full completion is expected in August as of now. I think these folks really know their business, and I expect that the new facility will be fantastic!

We stayed at the Sunstar for three nights during our trip across Switzerland. We arrived to a VERY warm Grindelwald and were dreading pushing our suitcases up the hill in direct sunlight as we’d forgotten to let the hotel know our arrival for the shuttle. I phoned the hotel and a shuttle arrived to pick us up in under 5 minutes! We arrived quite a while before check in was available so enjoyed our free welcome drink outside with the stunning view of Eiger. Although I didn’t catch his name, a wonderfully smiley Argentinian man looked after us and gave us some information about the area. Our room was amazing! We were so glad we paid a bit extra for the Eiger view - the most stunning view I’ve ever had from a hotel balcony! The room was extremely spacious with a mini bar in the fridge that was refilled each day. Wonderfully comfy beds and a fantastic bathroom. It was extremely hot and I know air conditioning is limited in Switzerland for ecological reasons, but there was an excellent high powered fan in the room which was a help. The room was kept spotless for our stay by the wonderful cleaning staff and daily chocolates on the pillow was a nice touch. Breakfast? Oh my! What a choice! An amazing selection of hot and cold food. Several juices, lots of tea and coffee choices. A little robotic pancake maker! The croissants and bread were super fresh and I’d definitely recommend the homemade cherry jam as it was delicious! And getting to eat it on the terrace with an amazing view? Spectacular. I was interested in the names of the surrounding mountains and the lovely ladies on the front desk found a brochure with a photo of the mountains on it for me and hand wrote all their names on it for me. They also gave us some tips of their favourite viewing spots which we took their advice on and were not disappointed! Location wise, it’s perfect. It’s slightly away from the dead centre of the town, so it’s nice and peaceful. There’s a bus stop just down the road which we used to go to the glacier canyon. It’s a very short walk to Pfingstegg gondola station where you can do a mountain toboggan ride and a tree flier ride. The gondola for Grindelwald first is just across the road. Grindelwald station is a short walk down the hill, where you can catch a train to Lauterbrunnen, or then get a train to Grindelwald Terminal and get gondolas to Jungfrau or Männlichen. It’s a perfect hub for exploring the area. When I return to Grindelwald (it’s definitely a ‘when’ not an ‘if’!) I will without a doubt return to Sunstar!
