xtremely tired. Eole place smells damp and I had to ask for someone to spray my room as the stench was awful. Single room felt like a care home. Sink in room instead of bathroom. Old socks on flat roof outside window only thing going forit is the brilliantlocation and private car park! I wouldn't stay again
Hotel is in great location, just up the road from the beach. However, don’t expect to get any sleep if you are allocated Room 103, it is directly above a nightclub, which blares out base music until 2am. During these hours the noise levels in the room measured an average of 75 decibels and frequently went above 80 decibels (a quiet bedroom should be around 40 decibels). This also meant the windows had to be kept shut (or the noise was even worse), making the room extremely hot and stuffy. Why would you allocate a parent & child a room above a nightclub?! When I went down to reception to complain about the room, I was informed that noise levels were stated on their website and in correspondence. Sure enough, when I checked my messages, there is a single line, amongst four messages and a wealth of other information, that states they ‘cannot guarantee a quiet stay due to a cocktail bar and nightclub on site’. That implies a few rowdy drinkers on the premises, not that you will be sharing your bedroom with the Ministry of Sound! Check which room you are in before you book!
The staff were polite.
The room was dated, smelt musty, appeared clean but had no air circulation or ventilation and despite a fan was a constant 31 degrees for 2 days causing me to suffer heat stroke and go to hospital. I therefore had to check out 2 days early and go somewhere else. There was no water and no eating facilities in the hotel.
The shower was excellent.Simple to use with plenty of shampoo and cleaning gel.
The new checking in procedure. Why complicate service with barcodes smartphones etc?.Prior to this checking in was perfectly easy.
Not told that the restaurant wasn’t operating for evening meals.. Also not told the nightclub would be open until 2 o’clock midweek.
Die Party bis morgen um 2:00
Comfortable
We had booked breakfast but it wasn't available. Our room was directly above the noisy venue. Areas of the hotel were more quiet and there were rooms available on booking.com but the person on the desk said she was unable to anything about seeing other rooms. There were no onlther staff in the hotel.
Staff great. Accomodating.
Expensive car park charges. Rooms very hot. Noisy.
Room surprisingly comfy, even if generally basic, it had everything I needed.
Signage into carpark was so confusing with logos but not the hotel name,- just coming off the roundabout- that we missed it and had to go round before entering
Everything is very good for the money.
Excellent location with onsite parking although this was extra. Shower was powerful and luckily cold.
Bar and dining closed, room had no ventilation, small fan which was unusable. Very tired/dated room. Small sash window literally falling apart.
Its close to the beach
Very old, mold in the bathroom, a window that doesn’t close properly, and a lot of noise from the bar. It urgently needs renovating. I wouldn’t stay here again.
Nice athmosphere, elegant and classy hotel
The main entrance is locked at night, and staff can be slow to answer the reception door
Great location. Walk to town centre, beach, Odeon cinema and Sightseeing Tour Bus. Also walk to Beach Breezer bus 70 to Christchurch. Staff were polite and pleasant. I had no working shower but it was fixed quickly.
Hotel has been sold to new owners and is awaiting renovation. Some parts very shabby. WiFi poor in room. No breakfast served.
Good location—close to the center and the sea.
There were no towels in the room. I asked for some, but I was given only one small one. It was inconvenient.
The location’s good and it was clean
If you stay on a Friday or a Saturday it will be noisy due to the bars below but my biggest complaint is that the bed I slept in had bed bugs and I was bitten all down one side of my body
The location was perfect for our one night stay as close to the beach and an easy stroll to the town centre
There was an obvious old leak in the ceiling above the bed. The showerhead was covered in black mould and lots of limescale reducing the water flow. The bathroom smelled damp and mouldy. The toilet seat was not secure resulting in falling against the wall. Raised concern with reception who advised they would alert maintenance. On return later in the evening the toilet seat had not been fixed and was told it would be repaired in the morning. I was told they couldn’t move me to another room as they were fully booked. I am not sure where all the guests were as we only saw another couple of couples. The curtains didn’t fully draw and cover the windows. On arrival we were advised that they had 2 bars that night so there could be noise until about 1am. As there was a huge outdoor screen below my window showing football World Cup matches that was definitely true pity there were only 3 people watching the screen. We didn’t realise that we had to order in our breakfast as there is no food served on site. Can highly recommend Olive Cafe for breakfast however. Spoke with a different receptionist on check out and although receiving a verbal apology I am not convinced anything will improve.
Close to the convention center.
Faded glory. Poor maintenance. Don’t go anywhere near Friday or Saturday, the noise from the nightclub is insufferable.
Superb location very close to town centre On site secure parking.very clean and tidy.excellent room with plenty of space. Lovely comfortable soft bed. Late check out at 11.00 am was also a bonus Stayed here several times and I will be back
Nothing not to like.all good for me
Very good location.
The focus isn't really on the property itself. They do have a car park, but it doesn't belong to them, so you pay a separate company for it. I’m not sure if the price is fair, but staying for 24 hours cost me £20. For a 7-day stay near the airport, I paid £47.
Brilliant location for the Bournemouth International centre and the beach room comfortable clean and staff very friendly
N/A
good bar sevice and staff
No food on site
Lovely situation and beautiful building
Creaky floors
Great location, good size room.
Room was hot, no aircon. Creaking floors, could hear people walking around the hotel corridors and stairs
Everything was ok
Nothing
Although dated, I had everything I needed and the room was very clean and well organised
Not their fault but the breakfast and restaurant were not available during my stay however the staff were helpful in informing me of outside delivery services for breakfast which were available to me.
Excellent, central location. Parking on site.
We were informed the day before our stay that the paid for breakfast would no longer be provided due to a management changeover. The promised refund has not come through. One of the lights over the bed was not working. There was something which looked like a cherry pip on the bed cover. No crisps available at the bar.
307- Nice sized room, lots of storage and surface space. Optimistically could be said to have a 'sea-view'. TV good quality picture but a bit small for the room size. Comfy bed, good quality sheets and towels, fluffy pillows. Room was at the end of the corridor on the top floor and was lovely and quiet. The room also had a fire exit door which I liked. Lift to all floors. Reception staff very friendly and helpful. Location excellent, with on-site parking and we were allowed to park earlier and later than check-in times which was helpful. Looking forward to a revisit later in the year once the new owners have made some updates
Quite an old hotel, decor a bit tired but I gather it is due for a refurb from new owners. Room (307) a bit dark as only a small window which I couldn't open. Room could also benefit from a small fridge. This room was sold as a superior room but it was not quite up to standard at this time. A few issues in the bathroom which were discussed with a manager and a SMALL refund given. Sadly, had booked for breakfast but the hotel ceased providing it early June. Finally, on-site parking great but at £15 per night - adds a lot to the cost of the stay.
Great location for me, as I had a conference in the conference centre across the road. Close to the beech and staff was friendly. I had a superiour room and it was large.
There is a musty smell in the hallway. The shower did not work, so I had to take baths. No sockets near the bed. There was a nightclub in the hotel that played loud music throughout the night.
Location, staff
Hotel changed order (removed breakfast) week before stay - unacceptable, noisy wooden floor all neighbours rooms over night, smelly room
The bed was comfortable, the staff were pleasant, the location was good for the Bournemouth International Centre.
Was sent an email day before I arrived stating that hotel no longer did breakfast. Did not see it until I was leaving the house on the day of my arrival. Message stated that this was due to change of ownership and was in place from 1st June - which was 11 days earlier. I also presume they had some knowledge prior to the 1st June that this would be happening. The hotel staff could give me no explanation as to why I had been told so late. Others at the hotel had all only received the message day before. I was attending a conference so it was extremely inconvenient to need to arrange breakfast each morning before I attended. Reception pointed at a leaflet to an advert for local restaurant and told me she had been told to tell people they could order from that restaurant for delivery. I followed the QR code it gave ( only option it gave) which took me to their website. There was no option on their website for delivery. I called up. They had never heard of the hotel and knew nothing about deliveries. They had only just listed themselves on one of the delivery apps but were not putting it on their website yet and that is presumably what the hotel were referring to - but that is not where the QR code took you. They did not open until 9am - my conference started at 8.30 . There were two other places listed on leaflet (which the reception had not pointed out) one of which did also not open until late and the other being McDonalds. I did not want McDonalds for breakfast. I was seriously unimpressed with this whole shambles. The hotel looks very quaint - but a lot is broken - like toilet flush button and toilet seat. You are told you must hand key in when going out but half the time no one on reception and no one seemed to notice or care. No usb ports in room - fair enough - but no sockets anywhere near the bed - in this day and age! Room was ensuite - but basin was outside bathroom in the room - very odd and inconvenient.
We recently stayed at the Royal Exeter Hotel and had a fantastic experience. The hotel's location is perfect, just a short walk from Bournemouth beach, the pier, shops, and the Bournemouth International Centre. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, and the staff were friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help. One of the highlights of our stay was the cocktail bar. The atmosphere was vibrant and stylish, making it a great place to relax in the evening. The bartenders were knowledgeable and made a fantastic range of cocktails and drinks, all beautifully presented and full of flavour. The weekend entertainment was excellent too. The live bands were great to watch and created a lively atmosphere, making the evenings even more enjoyable. After the music finished, we headed next door to the hotel's nightclub, where we danced the night away and had an amazing time. It's the perfect place if you're looking for both a relaxing stay and a fun night out. The overall atmosphere throughout the hotel was warm and inviting, and the facilities provided everything needed for a memorable stay. Great value for money, excellent service, fantastic drinks, brilliant live entertainment, and a convenient central location. We would highly recommend the Royal Exeter Hotel to anyone visiting Bournemouth and will definitely be returning in the future.
A lovely place to stay. The hotel staff was extremely nice and very helpful. Rooms very clean with a wonderful view. Perfect location, walking distance to the beach, shops and restaurants. We loved 1812 Bar and delicious cocktails. Atmosphere was fantastic, we enjoyed a live music. I would definitely come back to enjoy such a lovely place again.
Such a lovely stay at Royal Exeter Hotel. I appreciate there was music from the next door and it was clearly stated on their website as well as polite lady at the reception reminder us about the possible nightlife vibes around, but honestly for us celebrating our anniversary was absolutely brilliant. Amenities added even more comfort to our stay. We enjoyed live music at 1812 and later went to next door Bar So top floor bar to continue our night. The DJ was just as it should be, perfect soundtrack to our cocktails. I seen some reviews saying that guests can hear music and noise on weekend nights, that's why I decided to leave my review and say opposite. If you travelling let's say from London (as we did) to enjoy coastal, to celebrate and explore Dorset and when the hotel is literally in the centre then why to be surprised that you might hear some nightlife. We came here to enjoy our short little trip so why bother? It is the right decision to stay in the heart of everything especially when you want to have a cup of coffee on the beach straight thing in the morning. Beach is just 1-2 minutes walk. We had absolutely no problems, opposite - we took the most of it! Such a convenient location and hotel group venues. A separate applause to lovely lady Kubra at reception, she made sure our stay is pleasant. Thank you very much and we will see you later this summer again because we think the value is absolutely great! Room was clean and comfortable.
Location was ok if you have an event in the event centre of the city. Not far from the sea nor the city centre, on a hill so good wind too. The booking description was ok, there was een a bathe in the bathroom so great.
There were 2 discotheques, right under my sleeping room so impossible to sleep up until 04am, I think this is not only unacceptable, but I would recommend Booking.com to remove this hotel from their offer. The hotel did immediately send a message to announce a change of management and possibly a bit of noise, so I asked to have a room as far away from the noise, and they gave me a room right up the two discotheques, I could literally feel the bass vibrating my bed all night long. They refused to change the room. This was the single most horrible hotel experience in my life.
Stort rom og bad, med god seng
Rommet mitt var rett over baren med høy musikk, så fredag og lørdag natt var det vanskelig å sove. Anbefaler ørepropper.
What a fantastic venue I accept that there is a bar and a nightclub within the complex, but that is plainly stated on the website. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed us stay and use the facilities on the ground floor until the early hours of the morning 1812 is the most awesome cocktail bar I’ve ever been to and the cocktails are absolutely unbelievable with them went to bar so and the music was incredible
We liked the location close to the park & beach, but most of all enjoyed the live entertainment in 1812 club within the hotel,it was absolutely fantastic, furthermore a mix of age groups from young to old a really friendly atmosphere in there . Please don't ever stop the live entertainment there it really is a big bonus for people staying there .
My only problem was the TV in my room 306 did not receive a proper signal so were unable to use it for the 2 night stay there . Not good if you had to stay in for the evening .
Short walk to beach. Nothing else good to say other than cheap.
Old, smelly, grim, depressing. Get the impression used for homeless over winter. Not a nice place. Facilities decrepid, whole place on its last legs. Breakfast was cancelled 2 days before arrival, which in retrospect was a blessing as couldn't wait to get out. Needed to wipe my feet when I left.
Location spacious clean
The smelt very strongly of bleach over powering had to open all the windows
Good breakfast. Lovely for midweek stay, but venue attached to hotel noisy at the weekend. Hotel does let you know about this.
Very polite staff and clean room
Late night reverberations from night club kept me awake til 3am crazy noise.
It was the second time we stayed here. Location is perfect for beach and town and we like the idea of having drinks right outside the main entrance. Rooms are generally big, clean and comfortable, very good selection of tea/coffee and biscuits.
When we arrive, the lady/young girl in the reception was very rude and said that check in is now done by QR code. We spent 10min on the phone just to fill in all the details while she sat in her chair, no help at all waiting for us. We could easily have done that beforehand if it was said to us, last time none of this was implemented. Plus, paying £15 for parking seems a bit excessive when there is no other option.
Handsome building, good location
No TV, no internet, no breakfast, no cafe or restaurant
Nothing. Stayed many times before but unbeknown to us (and presumably booking.com) property was being renovated. There were no facilities- we did not stay in a hotel, it was just a room!
As above
We were going to a concert at the arena across the road so the location was excellent, the sea view was a bonus.
There was no information about the local area in the room. The shower was very poor.
Hotel change ownership, Felt sorry for the staff as they didn't know how to operate with the new management. A really central location, sad to see what was a good hotel go down hill.
Hotel has changed ownership, chef was sacked on the Sunday, so no breakfast on the Monday morning, the reviews about a good breakfast are out dated as the hotel has changed from a buffet style to a fixed breakfast that you had to order the day before. A warning should be advising that there's a disco on until all hours in the morning on Friday and Saturday nights. The rooms were vibrating with the noise.
Location
TV didn’t work and no maintenance came. There weren’t enough towels for two people. Room didn’t get serviced overnight I couldn’t get coffee milk without calling a second time after more than 30 minutes.
Location perfect as we were attending the fight at the BIC
Hotel had live music till very later which made it difficult to sleep but we were aware of this
Perfect location for the BIC. Dated but comfy. Lovely staff. Two nightclubs on sight but can’t be heard from room. We were on the first floor right above one of them and once we had the tv we couldn’t hear it at all. Parking on site but also next door. Had iron/board, fan, heater extra pillows/blanket in the cupboard.
A little dated but was comfy and clean. Could probably do with some fresh pillows in the room as they were a little flat but nothing that couldn’t be solved with using a couple of extras.
Breakfast was discontinued due to being taken over but refund was accepted
Stayed overnight. The room was clean, single bed comfy, only one sash window stayed open, the others including the shower room slammed shut and all in need of decoration. Shower room clean although shower head caked in limescale which was unpleasant, sealant breaking up and poor water pressure as mentioned by other guests. No breakfast served anymore as new ownership seems to rely on in house late night drinking and clubbing to make ends meet. Creaky floorboards everywhere and on checking in, we were informed of live music that night but that our rooms were not overlooking the nightclub. Wrong! My room was above it, overlooking the area and the very loud bass thudding with varying tempo drowned out most of the music but continued until around 5am which wasn't mentioned. On that basis I'll never stay there again as a night's sleep was missed and I had a long onward car journey. Terrible.
Proximité bord de mer.
Pas de petit déjeuner. Travaux en cours suite changement de propriétaire. Hôtel commence à montrer sa vétusté et à besoin d'un grand coup de jeune
No breakfast. Wasn’t advertised.
Bathroom was clean but dated. Bath mat… really dated and unhygienic. Had problems with getting in and out of the shower very nice products. Apart from that everything was clean.
Parking good and 50 yards from intended venue. Room ok, but dreadful floor, very creaky all over. Old hotel, clean but a little bit tired. Breakfast expensive, especially with a Wetherspoons just down the road. Would stay there again, but pleas not room 110.
See above.
Central location was great, room was very spacious. When we asked if we could relocate rooms as the room was extremely hot staff did arrange a new room the next day. Housekeeper did a really good job and towels seemed new and fluffy. We were up on the top floor and it seemed quiet although the bars were empty when we came home around 10:30am.
Hotel rooms are outdated and old, windows were falling apart The whole place needs a massive refurbish. We were told breakfast was unavailable to purchase when we checked in even tho I had messaged the property the day before to double check this was available. Poor service as we booked this hotel as breakfast was available. Children have to vacate the bar from 7pm, this seems crazy as the bar was empty. I have teenagers, who are well behaved maybe if they welcome families it would be a better atmosphere. Disappointing!
Hyvällä sijainnilla oleva hotelli.
Viikonloppuna yökerhon meteli kuuluu huoneisiin erittäin hyvin. Arkisin ei ongelmaa ole.
Everything was comfortable.
£15 to park. And drink was expensive. Could not watch the tv as it did not work and you could not watch it from the beds.
Liked that they had adj outside in the sun.
Had to pay 15pounds on arrival for parking. Shower was awful. Cracked tile by the bath. Massive badly filled water damage about the bed. In full view while sleeping. Music from the nightclub in hotel kept me away all night. No breakfast offered. Rooms need modernization.
I liked the location of the hotel
The room was very hot and was no fan or air con. We were on 3rd floor and felt quite claustrophobic
The hotel room was surprisingly spacious.
Even though the room was spacious, there was mould on the ceiling directly above the bed, which made me feel very uncomfortable and unable to sleep properly. It was honestly disgusting. On top of that, the shower was not properly cleaned and also looked unhygienic. The overall hotel had a dusty smell throughout, which made the stay unpleasant. Very disappointed with the cleanliness and maintenance standards of this hotel. Not worth for the money. We paid extra £30 for parking for two days.
It was cheap
The hotel wasn't particularly clean. I didn't get breakfast with my deal and the room was quite tired.
The location was the only positive
2 star room decore. Lack of breakfast optionn(although previously part of package. Expensive parking. Noisy nightclub .
Location was ok, grateful for gated parking which can be accessed via the green at the back of the hotel. Clean hotel albeit a little dated in its decor.
Prior to arrival, I received an email advising that breakfast was no longer available under the new ownership. In fact, there was no food service available at all, including bar food, which was disappointing and not made sufficiently clear at the time of booking. Guests were also warned about music from Club 1812, which is unfortunately located on the same side of the building as the guest rooms. Thankfully, the outdoor DJ sets finished by around 9pm, so noise was not as disruptive as anticipated. A further issue was the Wi-Fi service. Although I paid for Wi-Fi access, it only worked in the reception area and not in my room. When I raised this with reception, the response was unhelpful. I was told that the Wi-Fi worked at the desk, but there seemed to be little understanding that paying guests would expect the service to work throughout the hotel, including in their rooms. Overall, the facilities were adequate but I would not choose to return .
The room was clean, comfortable and very spacious. Super friendly, polite and very helpful staff. The location is perfect placed just 3 minutes walk to Bournemouth pier and beach only 4 minutes walk to restaurants, bars, shops and supermarkets. Highly recommend.
We liked and enjoyed every moment.
Location only
The breakfast was very poor no staff on only what I think was the chef was unable to find menu's for what was on offer to which was only a full English breakfast no vegetarian option. Two night stay did not see any house keeping at any time had to pay extra for car parking £15 per night shower water running very slowly hotel is very dated and need a upgrade to be able to charge the money they are currently asking for. Think its more geared up for night club
Location
No fridge and cooking facility
It was a decent stay for the night.
Nothing
We were very disappointed with our stay. The room was not properly cleaned and did not meet basic standards of comfort. There was construction work taking place below our room early in the morning, creating significant noise and making it impossible to rest. We were not informed about these works before or during our stay. The reception staff were unhelpful and unfriendly, and we felt disrespected when raising our concerns. In addition, we were charged extra for parking, despite already paying, and the charges were not explained clearly. Overall, the service was poor, the room condition was unacceptable, and the noise disturbance seriously affected our stay. We expected much better treatment and a more comfortable experience.

The food was always well presented and cooked fresh. Every care was taken to make me feel looked after.
There wasn't anything not to like about my stay. I enjoyed the tranquility of being able to do what I wanted.
The location
My shower was broken. On the hottest weekend of the year. I stayed for 2 night and this wasn’t fixed. I was told by a staff member to ‘use someone else’s’ (my friendship group was staying in the Hilton)
After over 30 years of using the Royal Exeter hotel we wont be using it again. New management means no breakfast which has always been popular and excellent here in the past. Loud noise from bar below means no sleep till it stops about 1 or 2 in the morning!!! And £15 per night charge for parking!!
The receptionist's efforts to support and address the issue were the sole positive aspect of the staff's performance
The images did not quite align with the reality. The television in the room was not functional, and despite the room amenities indicating the presence of a fan, there wasn't one, making the room uncomfortably warm and difficult to sleep or move in. We requested a room change, which was kindly accommodated by the receptionist. However, the toilet and bathroom in the new room were also not working, necessitating us to sleep in one room and utilize the bathroom in a completely separate room. The hotel did not seem to justify its price, and we were quite surprised to find a charge of 15 pounds for parking, which we found to be rather excessive.
Location to the pier
Horrendous noise and room vibration from nightclub until 4.30am
Everything the bar is very nice & there was a fan in the wardrobe 👍
Would be nice if there was a small fridge in your room
Location
Very substandard shower ... need up dating !
Bar & restaurant
Bed and old carpet , shower
Hotel had superb decor albeit old and parts were in need of updating
We had two rooms, one spacious but had wiring issues with the main light, second room, smaller had an issue with the ceiling where obvs had an issue but poorly corrected. Wiring issues with main light and TV wiring as well as not safe. Rooms need updating and cost really associated with location only.
Location
Dated ..,,
Location and value for money is exceptional
Be aware there is a nightclub on the ground floor, which is quite noisy on a Saturday night but didn’t affect our stay
