Perfect central location, great staff and amenities. Room was very spacious with beautiful views (stayed in king room 6th floor).

Best location in queenstown
Staff were friendly, breakfast was great,we arrived a little early but we're able to check in which was great, location was perfect! Would definitely stay again
太老了设施。
Extremely comfortable, clean, and the service was brilliant
Everything is perfect
Staff are very lovely and friendly. Location is perfect.
Had to ring for my room to be cleaned. And to continually ask for towels and face cloths. Asked for sheets to be changed and it was not done. Didn’t take all the rubbish I left and asked for them to take. TV stuck on one channel. Asked 3 times for it to be rectified and even staff couldn’t fix it.
We have stayed at this hotel before and the location is excellent.
We booked a luxury King room with a balcony and received a smaller dark room with no balcony and only one window. It was next to the lifts so it was quite noisy at times. There was nothing on the walls and it was quite a depressing room. The bathroom was not cleaned very well during servicing and the bed was not properly made each time. I had to ask for more toilet paper as it wasn’t replaced and the milk wasn’t replaced.
We stayed there for 4 nights commencing Monday and checking out Friday, everything from start to finish was fantastic, welcome drink at check in, lovely complimentary afternoon tea which we werent expecting, 2hrs of evening canapes and it just gets better. All the staff greet you alot of them are obviously french, breakfast in their little cafe is wonderful with a nice selection, bed was comfy, room was a great size and had a view of the mountains, never had to wait for a lift all up its a 10/10 from us
The entire staff was exceptional- professional, informative, kind, & always placing the guest needs as a priority. Big shout out to the front desk, the always welcoming breakfast staff who made the start of the day so pleasant and the lovely staff at the tea/happy hour. All the food and drinks- wonderful.
The rooms are very comfortable and location is excellent walking distance to the city centre. The club lounge serves canapés (very good) and cocktails (average) in a lovely setting.
I would rate the staff at the front office average. We arrived at 12.30pm (check in time 2.00pm) and while room was not ready which is understandable, we only got our room at 2.45pm. Not acceptable.
This is the first time I’ve ever given a property 10 out of 10. The old world charm with modern conveniences of the property were outstanding. Our room was very spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was first class - down to the heated tiles. The staff were exemplary. They always greeted me with a smile and called me by name. The restaurant food was delicious. To sum up the property, to me, it was pure lux.
I couldn’t fault it.
We recently stayed at Sofitel Queenstown as a walk-in booking. The lady at reception was friendly and helpful, although she did accidentally quote us a lower price after getting the number of nights we wanted to stay incorrect. Despite this, check-in was still pleasant overall. I had previously stayed at this hotel about a year ago and enjoyed it so much that I recommended it to the rest of my family for this trip. One of the highlights of the hotel is definitely the day spa. It truly feels like a hidden oasis and deserves to be advertised much more. The ladies working there are absolutely amazing and, in my opinion, are the hotel’s biggest asset. Their professionalism and service were exceptional.
Unfortunately, there were also some disappointing aspects during this stay. The breakfast buffet had a lack of variety and options compared to what you would expect from a Sofitel property. The breakfast staff also appeared far more interested in socialising amongst themselves than attending to guests. I also overheard one staff member referring to guests as “little kids” because of the way they ate and left crumbs on the floor, which was quite unprofessional and uncomfortable to hear. The biggest disappointment, and ultimately the reason I would not return, was the condition of the beds. I have stayed in many Accor properties over the years and have never slept in a bed as uncomfortable and worn out as the ones at this hotel. They urgently need replacing. Sadly, it feels as though the standards at this property are beginning to slip.
The location is unbeatable.
We had to pay $50 per day for valet parking. The breakfast was very ordinary. Coffee terrible at breakfast
Heavy French influence. They even say bonjour... except where staff speak Chinese to each other. Well located. Short walk to lake. Some rooms have views. Aim for level 5 or 6. If you have club access the cocktail hour is quite impressive although no actual club as such just special treatment in the bar.
Beautiful hotel , great location

Great location and staff
I didn’t have any faults as everything was amazing
Convenient to everything In Queenstown
Odd layout because we had to go through 3 doors to get to room 412
We stayed for six nights in a fantastic location at Sofitel Queenstown. It’s a lovely hotel, and we were fortunate to receive a complimentary upgrade to a Junior Suite. This was quite different from the typical layout — it featured a separate lounge and dining area, a spacious bedroom, a large spa bath, two wardrobes, and two small balconies with beautiful mountain views. Although there isn’t much snow on the mountains at this time of year, Queenstown is still absolutely stunning. The autumn colours are incredible, with trees displaying a rich mix of reds, oranges, and golds — it really adds a special charm to the whole place. I would highly recommend visiting during this season. The Club Lounge, while pleasant, is essentially part of the bar due to the hotel’s smaller size. That said, it works well, and the drinks and canapés offering between 4:30pm and 6:30pm is a nice way to ease into the evening — even if it is a little earlier than expected and it does take some time to get drinks the first night was over 20 minutes Overall, a very enjoyable stay and a great base for exploring Queenstown.
Well located, clean, good sized room, friendly staff.
I couldn’t change channels on the TV. Internet access was problematic.
It's what I expected from sofitel
Dynamic pricing introduced for me wanted to extend our stay.
Stayed 7 nights in April. I enjoyed my stay. I was upgraded to a King Bed. Room was very spacious and comfortable. Cleaning was perfect. I noticed prior negative reviews. I found them to be inaccurate in most, but not all complaints. First, the staff was great. Always helpful, from the bell staff and luggage, to the front desk staff. The rooms were clean and big. Yes, the rooms that face the upward public stairwell had some noise, but nothing overwhelming. Remember this is a downtown hotel with access to many venues. As for review that complained about staff not recognizing his birthday, this is an "entitled" review that I typically ignore. Just because you have some form of status, it doesn't mean that you get King Charles' salute on arrival. Some of the reviews did have issues for which I agree. Many days my room wasn't cleaned by 3 or 4pm, one day by 6pm. Housekeeping manager said that departing rooms had priority. That's not cool. This would be a 5* star review but for the housekeeping issues. Still, a great hotel.
Breakfast was great with generous spread and fresh orange juice. The staff at breakfast, reception and housekeeping were excellent. Towels and bathroom accessories were great.
The beds were soft.
Lovely hotel in a very convenient spot, staff are super friendly. Beds very old, need replacing!
I stayed at Sofitel Queenstown as an Accor STEP guest and Accor Gold member during my birthday and unfortunately this hotel falls dramatically short of the standards one would expect from the Sofitel brand. The property is, quite simply, completely mismanaged, and the operational leadership appears overwhelmed at every level. From the moment we arrived, the experience was disappointing. The bellboy greeted us with a dismissive glance, turned away, and left us entirely on our own with our vehicle and six suitcases. We carried all our luggage to the reception ourselves, where staff watched us struggle without offering assistance. Check‑in was indifferent, mechanical, and provided no information whatsoever. The first room assigned to us was unacceptable: located on the lowest floor next to a kitchen ventilation unit and directly opposite a public stairway, offering zero privacy. The room smelled musty, and the bathroom was poorly cleaned. When we requested another room and referenced both our status and our booked VIP programme, we were told that no alternatives were available. Only after escalating the issue through a European contact did management suddenly “find” another room – a suite on an upper floor. While larger, it was clearly dated and long overdue for refurbishment. I want to acknowledge that the hotel offered us a room change and a bottle of sparkling wine as a gesture of goodwill. We appreciated this. However, these gestures do not compensate for the fundamental service shortcomings, nor do they reflect an ability to turn a negative guest experience into a positive one – something that should be a basic expectation at a Sofitel‑branded property. What added to the overall disappointment was the handling of my birthday. Despite informing the Interim General Manager in advance, there was no gesture of recognition whatsoever – something that is standard practice in comparable hotels. This absence of even a small acknowledgement further illustrates the lack of genuine care and service understanding within this property. The service issues continued at departure. Once again, no one offered assistance with our luggage. We checked out and left the hotel carrying all our suitcases ourselves, with staff standing by without engaging. For a hotel positioned as a luxury property, this level of indifference is simply unacceptable. To make matters worse, the hotel also forgot to apply our Accor STEP credit at check‑out. We had to raise the issue ourselves, and only after a lengthy discussion with the staff member at reception was the matter finally corrected. This lack of attention to detail further reinforces the impression of a property without structure, oversight, or service awareness. As many other reviewers have noted, breakfast is a complete disaster. The selection is extremely limited: a few slices of cheese, salami, prosciutto, and fruit consisting almost exclusively of melon and strawberries. The bread selection is far below Sofitel standards. Service is chaotic and painfully slow – it often took more than 30 minutes before anyone approached our table, and clearing was only done after guests had already left. Most staff appear to be untrained work‑and‑travel employees with no guidance, no leadership, and no sense of service culture. They prefer chatting behind the counter to serving guests. The Hotel Manager repeatedly emphasised how important food & beverage is to him and that the hotel is undergoing a “major transformation.” While the intention may be there, the current reality is far from acceptable. The interim General Manager, who oversees two properties, is friendly and seems well‑intentioned, but at no point did the hotel make a genuine effort to recover the situation or deliver a meaningful service recovery – not at dinner, not at breakfast, and not in any other area of the hotel. Compared to Sofitel Wellington or Sofitel Auckland, this property is miles behind in both service and quality. It bears no resemblance to the standards the brand is known for. Bottom line: I cannot recommend this hotel in any way. It does not meet even an average Sofitel standard and suffers from severe leadership and operational issues. For a stay in Queenstown, I strongly suggest choosing The Rees Hotel or QT Queenstown instead.
Staff were very friendly and helpful
Noisy fridge and airconditioning made it hard to sleep.
Room was spacious and good shower and aircon.
Breakfast was okay but looked understaffed and waited too long for a table. Food okay when it arrived.
Breakfast service is awful. Very few people in the dining room and after ordering a simple coffee they missed it!
This hotel is centrally located in Queenstown. It is a phenomenally comfortable hotel to stay in.
Everything
It's an interesting hotel. When you walk in you could take the view that the decor is tired or you could take the view that it is traditional - depends on how you approach it. The rooms are massive. We stayed for 6 nights and were thankful we booked this hotel. A bathroom with heated floor tiles, heated towel rails, loads of room made life very easy. A room that fits a couch at the end the bed, a table and chairs, a sofa style chair with a foot stool meant it never felt at all cramped, far from it. The employees were wonderful. Valet parking delivered our car quickly each day, the breakfast staff very helpful and pleasant. You cannot beat the location. Right in the centre. Very glad we booked here and would do it again in a heartbeat.
Our room was extremely noisy. On4 of the 6 nights we stayed we were woken by drunken people and fighting and bad language outside our bedroom. We had the worst nights sleep. This noise even though we asked beforehand on 3 occasions for a quiet room. We first asked when we booked last November. We were offered another room but the noise was even worse.
Great location, outstanding staff service, very good breakfast, large comfortable rooms. When we arrived there had been issues with linen affecting our checkin and staff went all out to get us comfortable including entry to the Accor club for free drinks and nibbles.
All of Queenstown is expensive and although I do not consider this good value by regular standards it was good for Queenstown.
Staff were great and accommodating. Great location central to town.
Sofitel location is very central and accessible with main attractions and great walking area nearby . Great Comfortable Practical Rooms and a great Big Jacuzzi in our room that can accommodate 2 persons .
It is a charming hotel in the heart of the city. Facing the gondola & ski, the lake. Staff are amazing. Very welcoming and very professional. From the check in to the tea time, the happy hours, the food… the team of the F&B year is outstanding with their smile, love to their job, friendly service, and their attitude towards us. Mr Frederico remembered all our preferences although the hotel is fully full. The ladies working tirelessly and keeping a very happy face all the time.
Convenient
Parking
Great staff. Alex, Alice, Paul and Sabrina. Everyone was kind and really helped make our stay memorable The location is very nice. Everything is walking distance
I prefer a bit more variety with breakfast but everything was top notch and very tasteful
Beautiful place that is centrally located but service is inexplicably terrible. Our room was hot, in-room thermostat didn’t work and we were told the front desk controlled the temperature and they would cool down the room. Never happened, Room was hot as hell all night. Crazy.
The hotel was extremely high quality throughout. The bedroom was very comfortable. There were a very good selection of bars and restaurants either in the hotel or very close. Breakfast was a good combination of buffet style and a la carte selection for specialist items. All of the staff were exceptional.
Pillows is the only thing that could be improved, but that applies to every hotel.
Location, staff, breakfast, view and room are fabulous. Will be back for Xmas.
Nothing.
Close to the center
Felt very outdated in the rooms and overall
Was looking forward to this stay as had heard many good things. Booked a Junior Suite which is better described as a suite to be honest. It has a bedroom with a closing door, large living space including a dining table. Two Juliet balconies gave way to a commanding view across town and to the mountains. Colour scheme was muted in shades of grey and beige which is pretty much the standard. Bedroom was large and the bed was comfortable. Found the aircon didn’t seem to cool the bedroom as much as the other room (oh the humanity). A very large bathroom including a spa bath and television in built. Decent amenities and towels. Our room came with Club Lounge access. The hotel does not have a separate lounge per se but guests are invited to the bar where they have access to a menu with various culinary treats and a decent list of alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks available. The martini is a winner and a special thanks to Federico for looking after us. It is a very nice space with a real French club feel. Breakfast is served in the breakfast space and the staff here were very friendly and helpful. A very decent a la carte menu complemented with a small buffet. The range of croissant is worth a special mention. We had a small hiccough with one of the staff around the booking of the use of the in-house hammam. I was sure it had been booked but was categorically told otherwise. This was raised with management who were kind enough to listen to my complaint. A very premium hotel in a great location.
The location was great, and the facilities were comfortable, allowing us to have a wonderful vacation.
nothing!
Disappointing stay that fell well short of five-star standards. We stayed at this hotel over the Christmas period, an important holiday time for our family, and unfortunately the experience felt much closer to a three-star hotel than a five-star one. In parts, it was reminiscent of a Fawlty Towers experience rather than the level of service we expected from Sofitel. While the Christmas lunch itself was lovely and well done, many other aspects of the hotel were simply not up to scratch. The property is clearly looking tired, and it was surprising to see it still carrying the Sofitel brand. There was no laundry service available for the entire Christmas period, which is very inconvenient for a luxury hotel. Room service was extremely limited, offering little more than party-style snacks such as spring rolls and croquettes, with no proper meal options available. Our room was sold as a “town view,” with a “Juliet Balcony” and this was misleading. The view consisted of a verge leading up to a road with traffic and a car park — not what one would reasonably expect. And as we were on the ground level, I am not sure how it is a balcony? Breakfast was also underwhelming. While the cooked options were acceptable, the buffet selection was disappointing and lacked both quality and variety. Service issues were particularly concerning. On our first night, we requested an extra blanket and a small duvet. The blanket delivered was dirty, and instead of a duvet we were sent a mattress protector with no cover. When we raised this with the hotel, we were shocked to be told that they had run out of blankets and had no spare duvets available. This is a long way from the service standards expected of a five-star hotel, especially during peak holiday season. Overall, this stay did not reflect the quality, service, or attention to detail associated with Sofitel. With some significant investment and a renewed focus on service, this hotel could improve, but as it stands, it does not justify its five-star rating.
Everything
Rooms are starting to get a bit dated
The staff was super friendly and supporting.
The name of the hotel is misleading. The so called Spa is not more than treatments which you can buy and a Hammann where you need to prebook a slot. Due to the name I was expecting at least two of the pretty standard spa facilities as e.g. Sauna, silent room, infrared cabine, whirlpool, … which are accessible for hotel guests e.g from 10am-10pm.
Breakfast was fabulous Reception staff friendly and helpful Location Room
The vibe in bar....boring
Cozy hotel a block from Ferg Burger and the rest of the action. Hotel felt like home literally. Heated floors and towel warmer a big plus. Will visit again
Central location.
Tv to be updated to smart tv expected for the price
Unfortunately this is the lowest rated review of any hotel I have provided based on an underwhelming experience we had at Sofitel Queenstown. It’s disappointing there is not much to say about this hotel and not sure where to start. The arrival - the drive way was overflowing with vehicles and a truck so we stopped where we could expecting a porter to meet us (as we would expect from any other Sofitel property) The porter service was provided by Guest services after we checked in who then moved our car and arranged our bags to be sent to the room. As a Diamond member we were not offered a room upgrade however advised the room we had over looked the lake (2 blocks away) The room - A luxury room booked and unfortunately it is plain and simple. Far from the standard of other hotels under this brand. Usually we walk into a room with excitement and take pictures but nothing to write home about here. The room also had a strange smell which Guest services attended too. The bath plug didn’t work and had broken teeth. Guest services had to come up twice to fix. The gym - Tiny and outdated equipment. On one visit the water cooler was empty and when I informed guest services it took 20 minutes to replenish. Valet parking - Always a wait of 10-20 minutes. One on arrival back to the hotel at 01:00am after a event, we were greeted by the same guest service agent who was on earlier that morning at 07:00am and again the following breakfast shift. It was clear this hotel has a staffing issue which is fine to comprehend however it’s not satisfactory when the hotel is charging $650 a night for a room that would be worth $300 anywhere else. Unfortunately there was never any sign of a hotel manager to discuss these examples with, or did not receive a feeling of welcome here. Club benefits - the staff were fantastic and friendly. All food service came from the kitchen unlike a standard buffet of other Sofitel lounges. Breakfast - the cafe staff were again sensational and remembered our preferences. The food was tasty with À la carte and buffet options available.
The service and the staff at reception
Service at the bar was a bit lacking
Location was great.
In my opinion it’s overpriced.
Expected so much but delivered so little
Worst night sleep on whole trip. The room was so cold. I shivered the whole night through. Did not appreciate security being called on check in to escort me to the room
Clean and comfortable room, comfortable bed, towels changed very regularly and tea, coffee etc replenished. Location was fantastic, staff on reception were very friendly and helpful.
We went for dinner at one of the restaurants and we were the only people there. Felt a bit strange/awkward. The waitress wasn't unfriendly and was attentive but could have been a bit warmer. Just felt like she was going through the motions. Then left her shift without saying anything.
Todo, pero especialmente la cama comodísima y lo centrico que estaba.
El precio muy caro.
size of room breakfast was fantastic
cracked tiles in bottom of shower. Rooms need to be refurbished
This was an interesting stay with a mix of failures and wins. Let’s start with the failures first. 1. I tried to book using the app. Tried three times and each of the three times the bookings crashed I tried the fourth time using the actual Accor app finally made it through I then rang the hotel direct the next day to make sure that they had received my reservation. In the meantime the other three that had supposedly crashed did in fact go through which then had to be manually cancelled by me on the app. 2. A few days before arriving a call sent us a upgrade email with which I accepted the $150 spa offer for $200 worth of credit. I then went on their spa website to try to book my spa - again the site failing the three times I tried, giving me a triple two error message and advising me to contact the hotel direct. I ended up taking screenshots and sending these to Harriet (who I have been dealing with that reservations to see if she could book it in for me) Having not heard from her by the next day we walked to the Sofitel ourselves and I sat down with a lovely lady at the reception who then booked the spa treatments for me. 3. Check-in day was relatively uncomplicated and quite quick. We were upgraded as per my Platinum status (hubby is Gold) to a Junior Suite We had moved from the St Moritz M Gallery hotel down the road to this Sofitel hotel and we’re expecting great things) We have stayed multiple times at the Saint Moritz M Gallery and experienced their majestic Alpine suites that overlook Lake Wakatipu., So we know what good looks like. Upon entering our room 322 I was very disappointed. The room was empty, stark and devoid of any personality or warmth. Nothing like the photos you see on the Accor website. I felt like we had been given the “two dollar shop version” of the junior Suite Now, I’m deciding to move the bolster cushion that was on the bed I uncovered a dead spider. I yelled out to my husband to come quick as I snapped a couple of photos and asked him to pick the thing up off the bed and throw it out the window. That was it I had had enough. We went downstairs to enjoy our canapés and whilst there I said to my husband I’m not happy I’m going to have a talk to reception. Now for the wins 1. With a mixed heritage of Italian and Asian, I can be quite forthright, sometimes frankly to the point of rudeness, if I feel like I’m getting the runaround. I explained my misgivings to the young lady at the counter who promptly probably handed me over to her manager Paul . Paul listened quietly while I explained everything out to him and I asked him to have a think about “what you can do to fix our issue for us” True his word Paul came and saw me about 15 minutes later and said he had sorted something out and once we were finished our canapes, to come and see him and he would direct us next on where to go. We met Paul who took us to room 428. This room was divine! Well presented, well fitted out, the room had warmth, it had ambience, it had what I was expecting of a Sofitel suite! Paul helped to move our clothing and luggage to the new room and later sent up a plate of cheese to our room. To say this young man went above and beyond would be an understatement. He listened calmly to my concerns and he addressed them in a way that made me realise that he knew how important those concerns were to me - and therefore how important the fix needed to be. Paul is an exemplary team member. He is an asset to your team - look after this young man. 3. The spa. Wow. I mean, wow. The best $280 I’ve spent to treat me, for a long time. Just book you won’t regret it 4. As a platinum member, we were invited to enjoying afternoon tea between 3pm-5pm which we did and later on the canapés and drinks between 5-7pm. We indulged each night we were there & the offerings were different especially the canapés each night - food was great. 5. Breakfast can be extremely busy and given the small footprint of the restaurant probably a good idea to time your stay well. The pastries were to die for so soft and yummy. The rest of the available fear including the hot and cold selections were as buffets go like a buffet. Their coffee is exceptionally smooth and strong. I do recommend that! Overall I would grade this stay as definitely being inconsistent. There’s definitely room for improvement across not only the hard product offerings, the technology offerings but also the team members and how each person did or didn’t interact with the patrons. My stay will be a little coloured given that we have stayed before at the St Moritz M Gallery down the road. In discussion with my husband, we believe though the Sofitel is ranked as a higher luxury hotel, is in fact the inferior hotel to the ST Moritz M Gallery . We base that on the fact that the warmth ambience at check in, the textures and colours of the fabrics used, the devine smells, the proactive team and the quiet luxury of the St Moritz M Gallery is in complete contrast to the starkness that came through in the Sofitel hotel once you left the lobby area. If they can replicate the graduer of the lobby area into the rooms then the Sofitel will be a five star hotel, that can boast IT IS a five star hotel
I recently stayed at Sofitel Queenstown and was disappointed with several aspects of my visit. The mattress in my room was old and uncomfortable, and there was constant noise from the room above, which made it difficult to get proper rest. Housekeeping really needs improvement. Our room wasn’t made up until around 3–4pm, even though we had been out all day. There were also plates of food left outside the room opposite mine for over 12 hours, which was surprising and not acceptable for a hotel of this standard. However, I have to say the staff were absolutely amazing — from the front-of-house team to the wait staff. They were friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful throughout our stay. Their service was easily the highlight of the experience. The location is fantastic and the staff are wonderful, but the hotel itself needs to address the housekeeping and room quality issues to match the level of service provided.
An immaculate stay. Checking in, the keen and friendly agent went over and above to get me everything I needed. I had a BLISSFUL one-hour massage in the spa with La-arni - she’s a miracle worker and really made my stay! Clean, modern rooms and fast WIFI. Top marks! Thank you to everyone who made my stay special.
The European style hotel room is small and has just the basics. However, the shower was not working (no hot water) and it required a plumber to repair it – after we had to leave for our dinner reservation.
Location and room.
The Sofitel Queenstown is in a fantastic location — right in the heart of town and within easy walking distance to everything. You really can’t beat the convenience. Parking, however, is on the pricey side at $50 per night, You can find cheaper on your own. Check-in was flawless, and the service throughout our entire stay was exceptional — staff were friendly, attentive, and made everything effortless. Our room was big, spacious, and looked recently renovated. The bathroom TV was a nice touch and added a bit of luxury. The main downside was our balcony. While it was huge, it opened directly onto a public walkway. There was no furniture on it, which I assume is because anyone could easily jump the small gate. It also felt a bit awkward having people able to see straight into our room — some frosted glass or glazing would go a long way. We ended up keeping the blinds closed the entire time for privacy. We visit Queenstown often and usually stay elsewhere, but decided to splurge on the Sofitel this time. While it’s a lovely hotel with great service and a perfect location, some of the cheaper stays we’ve had have been just as enjoyable.
