Everything was exceptional from the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff who could not do enough to make our stay a pleasure. The hotel is a beautiful and grand accommodation which is centrally located to the best Sorrento has to offer.
Nothing really. My wife and I had a lovely time which is all that we could ask for.

Beautiful! Grounds were amazing. Rooms were large and well kept! Staff were all lovely Views of the ocean and sunsets were spectacular!
The decor was amazing! The facilities fantastic. We stayed there with our kid and our parents and everyone was able to relax, and do what they wanted.

We loved our stay at Grand Hotel Royal and Sorrento. The private beach, pool and evening music made our stay memorable
The pricing for drinks and food is quite high and the choice of shared snacks is limited. We would have loved to be able to order a charcuterie board to snack on with a glass of wine
Great views and accessible swimming
Aloof, unfriendly staff other than the pool attendants
Had the most perfect time at the Royal, from the minute we arrived the staff were so friendly and attentive. The Hotel is beautiful, italian marble and modern facilities. We were upgraded from a luxury suite to a Royal Junior suite with a view and Jacuzzi which made our stay even more incredible. The Pool is large and beautiful, great sunbeds and Beach area too is fabulous , the staff on Beach area and Beach Restaurant their were so attentive and worked so hard to make our stay memorable. Bring your snorkels as we did this everyday and saw good range of fish. I was here with my Husband and 13 year old son and he was not bored and loved it. We were so sad to leave but we will be back
Tout absolument tout, c’était un endroit et un séjour miraculeux
Les horaires d’ouverture de la piscine surtout en été Tout le reste est magnifique, regarde le paradis
Our room was ready when we arrived at 8am in the morning.
Everything was amazing
What an underwheming and disappointing stay.Let's start with the room, one wardrobe base was made of cheap wood, painted but badly scuffed, badly cracked floor tile and scuffed door to the balcony. We booked a sea view room, but from the 1st floor this is not a full view and you look down on to the dining room roof. Now for the worst bit,we went for lunch on the terrace,we were eating a toastie and my husband suddenly spit something hard out, looked like a presstud. After reporting it to the manager,it turned out to be the date tag from a bag of mozzarella! We wouldn't have eaten there again, but my husband had been ill for 3 days and didn't want to leave the hotel,so we ordered rabbit ragu. This time I was halfway through and I spit something hard out,I thought it was a rabbit's tooth, but my husband said it was bone.Reported it again but no apology. We are in our 70's and have never ever had 2 experiences like this. Pool needed a bit of tlc one American gentleman we spoke to had been collecting the loose mosaic tiles and leaving them in little piles on poolside. There was an issue with people reserving sunbeds at 6am,we watched them,so after 2 mornings of no sunbeds left and no one occupying them, complained to front desk, signs were put up and that problem was solved. On our last night there was a wedding party with very loud booming bass music,no thought given to the guests actually paying to stay there. Staffwise, most just average, but to end on a good note,a mention must go to the lovely lady who cleaned our room, think she was called Rosalisa, dark blond curly hair, who always had a smile on her face. Overall though a poor experience and not worth half the money we paid.
We stayed at the Grand Hotel Royal in Sorrento in July 2026. We had three rooms for 5 kids and 2 adults. This resort is incredible. The service was fantastic, property was beautiful and rooms were large and most important, the AC was high functioning and quiet. The beach club and pool are both great. Food at all the restaurants was fantastic and breakfast buffet was also top notch. The location is also perfect. Walking distance from everything but slightly set off the main commercial area so hotel is more quiet. A 5 star experience for sure. I would stay here again no question.
Beautiful! Fabulous location
The hotel is stunning, the location unbeatable, and the service consistently excellent. Housekeeping was impeccable, keeping our room spotless and well-stocked throughout our visit. A special thank you to Giaccomo, who went out of his way to make our stay memorable with his warmth, attentiveness, and genuine hospitality. We would happily return!
The wonderful caring staff
At times a long wait for someone to be behind the bar at the pool bar.
Közel a belvároshoz, a busz és vonat pályaudvarhoz. Csodálatos kertben a nyugalom szigete.
In one of the most breathtaking scenes, the property is very well laid out. The pool is just fantastic if you not a beach swimmer and has amazing views of Naples Bay.
We have just returned from a fantastic stay at this hotel. It is well placed close to Tasso square with spectacular views over the Bay of Naples and a stunning sea bathing platform and sundeck . The hotel is very warm friendly and sophisticated . A special mention to Salvatore and his team who have created sublime cocktails to start off an evening. Also the lovely lady who serves up fresh omelettes in the morning . All of the staff are warm , friendly and courteous . Very much looking forward to returning

Location
The Grand Royal Hotel is located very conveniently to the main square in Sorrento. Walkable to many attractions, restaurants and shopping. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful in getting whatever you need from a taxi or a drink by the pool over looking Mt. Vesuvius.
Spent 7 nights in this stunning 5 star hotel, set on a cliff top in a excellent location in sorrento we where in room 616 on the sixth floor with spectacular views of the gardens and pool below and stunning views across the sea and across to mount Vesuvius. Hotel was perfect as was the very friendly and welcoming staff, we stayed on a bed and breakfast basis, the breakfast was absolutely fantastic and delicious. Swimming pool was a good size with plenty of sun beds available and never felt overcrowded, we preferred to get the hotels private lift down to their private decked area which was large and had direct access into the sea, also had a terraced area and bar that served cold drinks and had a excellent menu to choose from for lunch, which we ate there every lunchtime as the food was so good. The decked area was excellent, with drinks and food served to your sun beds available if that’s what you wanted, special thanks to Marco for making our holiday so special for us always smiling, very knowledgeable and very professional and polite. The main restaurant on the terrace served up some of the best food I’ve ever eaten, excellent sunset views from the restaurant and the large terrace. Would highly recommend this hotel if you are in the area.
Very clean & staff were very helpful
The way selfish people put their towels on sunbeds before breakfast & Not sighted for hours Very annoying
Way overpriced for the stay and service. Pool and cleaning staff were wonderful but front desk staff not helpful and borderline rude. There are nicer hotels for the value.
This is the most beautiful place (hotel & surroundings) we have to had visited so far in Europe. Elegant, perfectly appointed, quiet, perfect bathing conditions... all you could expect for a couple of luxury vacation with a direct view to Vesuvius and Naples golf.
Very good
Staff was not friendly
Amazing location, clean and very nice stuff.
Luxurious old style hotel hotel in a great location, fantastic view from our room to the Bay of Naples and Mt Vesuvius. Fantastic view from from the restaurants , manicured , lush garden and proximity to the Centre of Sorrento .
It was limited number of sun lounges around the pool area, early afternoon there was none empty, or guests left their towels there regardless they intended to return or not .
Myself and me now fiancée stayed here for 1 week. I proposed to on the 4th day and the staff (especially Claudia), were extremely helpful and accommodating. They arranged champagne and flowers at short notice, alongside giving us a Suite upgrade for free. Outside of this the views of the Amalfi were one of the best we experienced, with an amazing private beach area to relax. Would definitely stay at the hotel again if we were to come back to Sorrento!
Perfect place
Property is beautiful, rooms are comfortable, luxurious, spacious and VERY clean.
Proximity to the marina was less than ideal if you’re spending time on the beach platform
Very good position, high standard 5 star hotel, nice view, and clean hotel. Staff friendly and helpful. A bit pricey but can recommend this hotel for a visit to Sorrento
We just completed our second stay in 2 years at the Grand Hotel Royal and can report, it just keeps getting better! While last year, it was just the wife and I for 2 nights, we returned this year with our adult kids for 3 nights. Having to book 2 rooms instead of 1 certainly hurt the pocketbook. Before booking, I searched far and wide for a different hotel that I can try to get a similar experience at a cheaper rate since I had to double our stay with the 2 rooms, even going so far as reserving rooms at another place, but as the time ticked closer to our trip, I just kept going back to the memories of our prior stay and simply did not want to miss out, as well as show the kids what a luxury stay really looks like. I ended up canceling the other reservation and never looked back. We booked a prestige water view and premier water view room. The concierge was nice enough to ensure that our rooms were on teh same floor for conveniece and the view was of course spectacular. We spent the majority of our stay at the private "beach", which is simply THE BEST. While the price is steep, I cannot recommend this hotel more.
The staff were excellent and accommodating. The hotel and facilities were clean and well kept. The food was delicious and well made. Had a suite with kids and they automatically doubled all the toiletries and replenished them daily without having to ask. We always had new soaps and plenty of towels. All around wonderful hotel.
Extraordinary outstanding views and luxury hotel. Highly recommended. We can’t wait to return to this superb hotel.
I would only make one suggestion regarding Tea. Yes I am a lover of drinking English Breakfast Tea and I truly believe a high end Hotel such as the Grand Royal should provide silver service with serving Tea. Real loose tea. In a tea pot with strainer. Served with beautiful porcelain china. Matching milk jug. This is what high end Hotel serve . A long with High Tea. With so many lovers of tea, this would make such a great difference to my enjoyment during breakfast. Another suggestion would be ice water issued pool side with lemon dented ice hand towel.
Excellent location close to the main square, amazing pool and private "beach". This beach is actually a deck with a ladder into the water. Great patio looking out over the Bay of Naples with views over Vesuvius, Ischia and sunset over the water. Gym is small but functional. Onsite valet parking for 26 Euro per night is good value for the area, but don't skip the damage audit on the car before handing over the keys. If arriving or leaving by public transport, it's very walkable (10 mins) from the train/bus station, even with suitcases. Breakfast was fine, not bad but also not special.
Some of the staff had a bit of attitude. Pool/beach close by 6:30pm, which is disappointing if you arrive back after a big day out.
Excellent architecture and view
Nothing
What a stunning hotel! We enjoyed every minute from arrival to checking-out. The staff is so friendly and attentive. The rooms are really nice, maybe consider booking a sea-facing room as it is worth it. The hotel has a beautiful garden and a veranda overlooking the ocean and Sorrento harbour. The breakfast buffet is amazing, nothing was missing. We also had dinner there one night and the food was really tasty. It was still too cold to swim in April but the hotel also has a pool and a deck with sunloungers. We were really sad as our time there had come to an end...
Beautiful hotel, kept up a very high standard
We chose to stay at this hotel to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. If I could give them higher stars, I would. From the moment we entered the hotel. we were warmly greeted by all of their staff and concierge. Every aspect of the grounds were meticulously groomed the pool view was amazing but our favorite was the beach club. They had a beautiful garden to enjoy lunch too. Our room was everything we could’ve asked for with lots of room, lots of space for our belongings and they provided generous soaps and lotions. The breakfast buffet made us feel like royalty. All of the staff is so kind and I wish we could have stayed longer.
Beautiful view, that being said I’ve never been treated more poorly in my life. They are the most money hungry people I have ever met in Europe, if you are under 25 they assume you have no money and won’t even serve you. I strongly recommend searching elsewhere, there are multiple resorts in very close proximity with the exact same view and better people. Treating people like they’re worthless is not what a “5 star hotel” should be doing it’s disgusting.
the view! the view! excellent staff, beautiful surroundings, centrally located. divine.
that i had to leave
Beautiful property and location. Must get a water view. It’s extra beautiful with great sunsets.
Everything. The cleanliness the location and staff were first rate
Amazing hotel with outstanding views and exceptional service.
People / tours buses walking from street into hotel to take pictures without even buying a drink or staying at hotel, and interrupting the overall experience of the evening. Hotel europa which is next door has security to prevent this.
Everything was wonderful - awesome location, beautiful property, stunning views, excellent service, fabulous breakfast!
Nothing!
The location is perfect. Easy 2 minute walk from the bus/ train station. Views, dining area, bar and beach are paradise. The staff were happy and helpful. We loved our stay.
There was a problem with the hot water but it didn’t really affect us.
Fantastic location best view in the world

Otthonos, elegáns, kényelmes.
A wc és a zuhany kicsit “furcsán” működött.
Ubicación,personal amable,instalaciones impecables..poder bañarse en el mar...lindas vistas
The views stunning, the private dock absolutely unbeatable, and the breakfast is Devine, staff was extremely professional. The rooms were so spacious and perfectly designed to make you truly have a wonderful experience.
View of the famous Mount Vesuvius, easy boat access close to property. Private pool! Unbeatable experience. Every location on this property is better than the next. Highly recommend.
Beautiful setting. Lovely staff. Great location
Gym was very poor. Needed more weights etc. Breakfast was lovely but could have had a lot more variety…
The Grand Hotel Royal truly offers a luxurious five-star experience. We returned to Sorrento after ten years and stayed there for five nights in May. We immediately noticed that the passage of time did not diminish the magic of the Grand Hotel Royal. Claudia, Angela, and Teresa welcomed us with open arms, truly making us feel like family during our stay. The on-site restaurant was truly worth a Michelin star. Raffele the maître d’ manages a courteous and professional staff. Kudos to Romario, Valeria (great omelets!), Davide, Paola, Serena, Sabrina, Umberto, and Sara. Every afternoon, Salvatore (the “magic mixologist”) and his staff greeted us at the bar with our favorite drinks (try the lemon sage spritz or the purple spritz!) and a light menu of food. They made our days relaxing after a long morning of exploring Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. In the evening, we enjoyed a fantastic menu with many delicious options. Our room was a “prestige” suite on the third floor with a view of the sea and Vesuvius. It was a dream, with all the luxury amenities you could want: a very comfortable queen-size bed, a living space with a private balcony, a bathroom with tub and shower, a large closet and dresser, a refrigerator, and a security safe. The staff was very attentive, keeping our room spotless with two visits each day. The resort had a beautiful garden filled with trees and flowers. The groundskeepers created a paradise bursting with fragrance. Our time at Grand Hotel Royal was truly exceptional, and we can’t wait to return. Grand Hotel Royal is like the “Hotel California” of Sorrento; you can check in whenever you like, and you’ll never want to leave!
Great Location, But Not Worth the Price The location and property are undeniably beautiful, but unfortunately the overall experience fell far below expectations. Service was consistently underwhelming. Upon arrival, no one offered assistance or even something as simple as water while we were carrying multiple bags. At 1 PM, we couldn’t even get a cappuccino in the lobby and were told to go off property. On the one occasion we ordered drinks on the veranda, it took 15 minutes for a server to arrive and another 20 minutes to receive just three drinks. The cocktails themselves were overpriced and poorly made—I even had to explain how to make a Paper Plane, which was surprising given that most of the ingredients are regionally common. Breakfast was another mixed experience. The omelet station was good, but everything else was cold and uninspired. The rooms had several basic maintenance issues: one had a broken toilet, along with problems with the AC and TV. These were eventually fixed, but these are fundamental items that should already be in working order. When we added a third guest mid-stay, the hotel was quick to prepare the additional charges, but it took multiple requests just to get a third towel—frustrating and unnecessary. Amenities were also disappointing. The pool was essentially unusable due to how cold it was, with no apparent effort to heat it—even minimally. Unsurprisingly, no one used it, yet we were still charged. The one bright spot was the dock area downstairs. Staff there were attentive and actually asked if we needed anything—the only time during our four-day stay that happened. To be fair, the concierge team was helpful prior to arrival, which raised our expectations. The setting is beautiful, but the hotel fails to deliver on service and value. To add context, family members staying just two doors down paid about 30% less and received significantly better service. Until management places a stronger focus on the guest experience, I would recommend looking elsewhere.
True 5 star hotel, fabulous location, private bar, stunning views everywhere, brilliant service!
Great location. Stunning views. Close to city center. Staff was kind and knowledgeable. Would definitely stay there again.
We stayed two nights at this hotel. Service is top notch. Breakfast buffet is in a very atmospheric dining room and was plentiful. Our garden room was comfortable. The shower is in a tub that was a little on the smaller size and one had to be careful stepping out of. The hallways are tiled so you do hear people walking or pulling suitcases. The hotel has a feel of sophistication and comfort. The grounds are gorgeous- there is a wonderful area to sit and order drinks with unmatched views of Mt Vesuvius. It is not in the city center so more quiet but is still walkable to most locations. Would recommend without reservation and would stay here again!
Views and terrace were amazing!
A beautiful hotel - I would thoroughly recommend staying here. We managed to get three nights here cheaper than the Hilton Sorrento Palace and this was much better. Beautiful terrace on the cliff, stunning grounds and rooms. A wonderful traditional Sorrento experience. Breakfast buffet served in an elegant dining room with attentive staff. Excellent Only negatives We were given a first floor room with a bad balcony when I had asked for a high floor room Please put a proper hairdryer in the room
Muy Lindo hotel en una excelente ubicación Excelente servicio de comida y desayuno
Nada
The hotel truly lives up to its name: You are being treated with Grand gestures like Royalty 😊 The staff is warm with a smile everywhere you go The room is extraordinary and the iconic sunset view is breathtaking 😍. Antonio at the reception made sure I know where to go and what to visit, gave me many advices about trips to take. Thank you Antonio 😊 I am definitely coming back
I would have loved the pool to be heated since I visited in April and it wasn't warm enough for a dip in the sea.
Beautiful property and staff.
Small and slow elevators.
I read the reviews on breakfast and my view is if you want sausages and bacon stay at home! Breakfast was great typical continental style and a lady cooks you an omelette what more do you want champagne ? Well they have that too!! Enjoyed our 3 night break immensely. Staff excellent, room maids amazing - they leave chocolate! Terrace and views beautiful with attentive staff who bring you drinks and snacks we honestly couldn’t have wished for more for our stay other than we should have booked for longer. So many places to see in the world but if we ever come back to Sorrento we are definitely staying here again
Torneremo sicuramente!
As a couple who consistently seeks out luxury properties, we choose our hotels with care and high expectations. While the Grand Royal Hotel has several strengths, our overall experience fell short of what a true 5‑star stay should deliver. ### 🌆 **What Impressed Us** - **Prime location:** Central, accessible, and ideal for exploring the area. - **Beautiful property:** Well maintained, visually impressive, and thoughtfully designed. - **Room aesthetics:** Although compact, our room was tastefully decorated with a calming colour palette and a stunning view of Mt Vesuvius. - **Spa experience:** The massages were genuinely wonderful — a highlight of our stay. ### 🍽️ **Where the Hotel Missed the Mark** - **Breakfast quality:** Surprisingly basic for a 5‑star property. - No additional hot options. - Sausages cut in half and resembling supermarket quality. - Very limited selection overall. This is an area that truly needs management’s attention. ### 🛎️ **Service Inconsistency** Service was inconsistent throughout our stay. - Things improved noticeably after speaking with the GM, Guisippe. - Mauro at Reception stood out for his attentiveness. Still, the overall service level did not meet the standard expected of a luxury hotel. Also please do not recommend restaurant Tasso to your hotel guests. The food served is poor and almost put me off linguine for life! ### ⭐ **Final Verdict** For the first time in a long while, we are unable to award a property five stars. The Grand Royal Hotel has strong potential — the setting, the design, and the spa are all commendable — but the service and breakfast offering need significant refinement to align with true 5‑star expectations.
Great location, very spacious rooms, high level of maintenance, super duper clean! Staff is highly professional, kind and helpful. Amazing view - this hotel got it all? The whole package.
If I had to pick something to improve, then the Breakfast could be a bit reacher, although, it was very good and had something from everyone, including gluten free.
This hotel is absolutely stunning. Rooms were spacious and bathroom was well appointed. I requested a room change and appreciated their immediate response. Definitely need a room overlooking the sea. It’s breathtaking. Just a short walk to tons of shops and restaurants and the train station.
Beautiful location and view
The cost is exorbitant
great from comfortable bed and great breakfast and night piano player
can't think of anything
A wonderful experience. The front desk staff were friendly helpful, courteous and accommodating, the room was excellent, the location, setting and the view were all first rate.
The only drawback was the wait staff on the terrace and restaurant for lunch were very slow to serve and fulfill orders. I and other guests noticed this
Everything
Nothing
Very old and cosy
The hotel is classic Napoletano /Roman decor . Directly on the cliff overlooking the bay of Naples. The pool was very nice but too cold to go in.. it was October. The Manager was just wonderful and marco and Guistina were soooo amazing . We had a wonderful time in this gorgeous worth every penny hotel. We cannot wait to come again.
Amazing hotel. we had a suite room with sun loungers overlooking the sea, it was perfect! Great location for going sightseeing, capri, positano etc ! Fully recommend
We hosted our wedding reception here, and the property—especially the terrace where our celebration took place—was absolutely stunning and everything we had hoped for.
This hotel is top notch. Worth every penny! The location is perfect. Short walk into town. The entire property is absolutely stunning. It’s very well maintained. The views!! It does not get better than this. We would just sit and admire every day. Beautiful pool, beautiful lemon trees. Great service. The bar staff makes great drinks. Breakfast included is a nice perk. They have a full juice bar, any kind of pastry and fruit imaginable, fresh eggs, etc. The front desk is very helpful with any questions. The maids came twice a day everyday. Could not say enough good things!!! We will definitely stay here again.
Great / perfect location. Very nice. Staff very helpful.
Shower in room. Step over to enter was very high. For older adults, almost was a safety issue for slipping and fall. For Mr, I could hardly lift my legs up that high to step over the side.
Beautiful hotel. Stayed in the off season, but still enjoyed the dock. Note that like many places in this area, the "beach" is a dock, not sand (I think it is worth mentioning as it may not be obvious to some). We enjoyed the great location - walking distance to Sorrento center while also being tucked away for tranquility. The room was beautiful, and cleaning took place multiple times per day. It was very convenient and relaxing as part of our trip.
Landscaping (aka palm trees) blocked some of the view of Mount Vesuvius from the room. I would rather have had an unobstructed view!
Rooms, grounds, hotel services were all 5 star. Great location walkable to town all all that offers Ate dinner once and breakfast buffet a couple of times were where it fell short of 5 stars. The food itself was a buffet style but cut up hot dogs for breakfast sausage kind of say “really a 5 star hotel serving hotdogs for breakfast?
The room size and decoration, the location, the hotel facilities, the hotel gardens
The rooms faced the street. You here the cars
View was incredible. Great Location Friendly and helpful staff Lovely room
Was expensive - but the view was worth it.
Food was excellent. Staff was very helpful and the SUV to airport was safe and comfortable.
We paid handsomely for a sea view and got it. The view was magnificent the room was kept clean, although room amenities like soap and bottled water were sparingly dispensed. Although some of the hotel staff were attentive and friendly, many were not. However, one employee, Mauro, was particularly helpful all throughout our 7 night stay.
