Location, welcoming, good meals
Decor a bit tired could do with new carpeting
Lovely old Scottish hotel. Tired and needs updating but that's what we like.
Staff shortages meant that the restaurant was not open for dinner for several nights and the hotel bar was closed for three nights in a row when we were there. So no facilities available for use after the breakfast service was done. Not as advertised.
Friendly helpful staff. Excellent chef and extensive menu. Spotlessly clean. Original features throughout the property. Highly recommend for visitors interested in Scottish history.
Nothing
Our room was large. The bed was very comfortable.
The hotel is very "tired". The upholstered furniture is old and in poor shape. The carpet is shredding. There were few people staying there so it seemed kind of creepy. The dinner food was poor.
Excellent food and location lots of parking
Very riendly and personable staff. Easy check in. Plenty of room. Comfy bed. Clean and quiet. Dinner and breakfast were great.
Shower pressure low.
Bedroom very comfortable. The staff were welcoming. Good breakfast
Bathroom was rather mouldy around the window.
Everything you’d need. Perfect for a short stay or long.
Nothing
No wifi in the room , shower had zero flow to the point you could count what jets there were!!
Lovely hotel with very nice, cheerful & obliging staff.

Cooked food was ok
Small range of pastries. Coffee was poor
The facilities were great and convenient for a travelling golfer
Nothing, it was all good
Location and friendly staff
I haven’t stayed in this property for approximately 10 years and it has not changed at all in that time. A lot of things were very tired and worn out and in need of an upgrade
Bed comfortable. Breakfast cooked to order. Large room
A little tired in places and closing early in the evening
Good food and very pleasant and helpful staff.
The overall impression was one of worn elegance and appearance. I remembered it from many years ago as a very elegant hotel.
Sehr freundliches Personal.
Eigenlijk niets.
It was a clean room and room was large - staff friendly. Bed was comfortable. Very convenient location for my travel.
Everything old and outdated.. toilet had issues flushing, tiny bath and there was a hole in the window which was ok because it allowed air in otherwise I could not have opened window
The location works for my visit to the Highlands
It was tired last time I stayed, there are no apparent updates. The smell on one of the corridors is most unpleasant, I can only assume that the staff are so used to it that they ignore it.
Food
Car park
breakfast hours; simple breakfast - overall value
decor is a bit tired
Lovely location, very friendly people
Bed a little soft
Our room was enormous with all the amenities we wanted. Our dog was welcome. Breakfast was good.
It was an expensive stay. The bar shut at 10 pm and neither bar tender seemed to know how to serve drinks. They may have been short staffed.
Sehr schönes Hotel
Visiting my father's local town.
The bath was made of thin plastic and felt unsafe.
All staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble

Struttura confortevole con ottimo ristorate
all OK
tv in room was a failure, & hotel was unable to provide a decent service or replacement
Lovely large room. Food good
Bathroom needs updating. Shower stream just a trickle
Staff friendly, ease of parking, breakfast was fine, room spacious, hotel generally quiet - no noisy neighbours! Bed very comfortable.
The room was "tired" . Bathroom needed modernised and a new toilet seat! TV remote control worn out. Main door and Bar was supposed to be open to 10pm, but whenever I got back circa 9:30 pm I had to use key code and bar was in darkness. I guess too quiet to have staff on... BUT it was fine as no real need for the bar!
Old but charming with lots of interesting contents. Restaurant food was very good both at dinner and at breakfast.
A little run down, but this added to the charm!
Very stylish
Room was chilly
Location
A bit tired Breakfast menu expensive
I prefer a shower rather than one over a bath
Staff were friendly and helpful. Happy to have our dogs there. Chef stayed on to cook our meal. Room was clean and spacious
The heating didn’t work in our room, but they did find a portable heater for us to use. Hotel is a bit tired, could do with a make over. No sound proofing so we could hear people moving about upstairs
Grote ruime kamer. We hebben in de avond pizza gegeten en dat was prima. Het is een echt victoriaans huis. Wel oud en gedateerd maar netjes.
Our room & beds were comfortable but in need of updating, especially the bathroom. All facilities were provided for. The evening meal & breakfast were very good. Staff were very friendly and efficient.
The hotel is very much in need of updating, looked very tired indeed. Gardens looked a bit neglected. On our trip we have stayed in better places that have been lower priced.
Location
No complaints
Spacious room with comfortable bed. Nice breakfast, good start to the day. Friendly, helpful staff. Good location base for attending “event” in Tain and as a base for onward exploration of Sutherland.
Hotel looks tired, disappointing as it could be beautiful. Shower over bath not the best, although functional.
History
Creaky dated
The pleasant staff and the warmth of the owner
To be honest I'm struggling for something to dislike this hotel is now my go to when working in this area
Clean and very friendly

Beds and Pillows felt old
Good location, big room, helpful staff
Probably one of the worst showers I’ve used and it got incredibly hot with no way of turning the radiators off. Decor is really quite dated
Good location for our needs. Comfy bed and reasonably quiet.
Too many stairs. I'll ask for a ground floor room next time.

The breakfast was very nice
The Christmas snowman is still lit up in March . The bed was lumpy and uncomfortable
Lovely helpful staff .....very dog friendly! Really good breakfast. Would stay again.
Only complaint was the shower pressure in the bathroom..... hardly enough to get wet ....minor issue over all
fairly clean and comfortable
No internet Shower is VERY LOW PRESSURE
This was our second stay at this hotel, and we were made very welcome by the staff. The staff are very friendly and efficient. Breakfast was excellent as before with a large choice. Our room was large and comfortable (very comfy bed). Spotlessly clean, like the public areas of the hotel. Plenty of parking spaces. Great location, just off the A9, so ideal for anyone touring Scotland too, but still a quiet location. Tain has some nice restaurants (including at the hotel), and is a good place to refuel (Tesco, in the middle of town, was the best value for diesel). The front of the hotel is a stunning late Victorian building, with large late C20th extension on the back, and the rooms we have had there on both stays have been much bigger than you would find in more modern hotels. It is nice to have the space. Hoping to be back next year, for a slightly longer stay.
The hotel decor is a bit like going back to the 1990s, which may not be to everyone's taste, but it is still comfortable and convenient. There are other places to stay in Tain with a more modern, 'boutique' kind of style, if that's what you are looking for. Beware the potholes on the drive! I expect these will be filled in soon.
Staff are friendly, rooms are spacious and clean
Beds are uncomfortable and could do with new mattresses.
Not a lot to like about this place dated worn out and not very clean at all. The chair in the room was the size for a five year old.
The double bed was two singles zipped together and it was as hard as rock making it very uncomfortable.
The room was very spacious, queen size bed , and spotless clean. Had a lovely time. Thank you
All staff were very welcoming, friendly, helpful and polite. Spacious room. Lovely breakfast.
Bathroom needs to be upgraded with walk in shower.
I wonderful local hotel. Our rooms were spotless! Very large and warm and comfortable. The staff we incredibly helpful and nice . We will most definitely stay again in the summer.
No complaints at all perfect stay
Very affordable, friendly staff very accommodating. We were visiting the local motocross track and weren’t going to make it for breakfast so they bagged us up a breakfast to take away. Very kind
The food and staff are both excellent.
Room was cumfortable and expansive in size. Food was very good and bar facilities were excellent.
Access road was full of pot holes and car parking area was very muddy and in need of a cleaner hardstanding ie asphalt or similar. Internal is rather tired and in need of an upgrade. Dinner was only available on our first night a big disappointment
房間很寬敞,住起來很舒適!
Nothing
My meal was served with cold mash The room was old and a bit dirty The double bed was two beds thrown together with terrible mattresses The shower fell apart and had to wash with the hoses I could go on…….
The shower in my room was pretty poor
Das Frühstück war sehr gut. Ebenso die Pizza die wir am Abend bestellt haben. Ruhige Lage.
Food was amazing, rooms lovely and spacious. Manager abd staff extremely welcoming. Thank you once again
Room was massive, bed was comfortable and huge.Bathroom was a great size and room overall was clean and tidy . Breakfast was delicious, great start to the day. but what made our stay were the staff. Made us welcome from the moment we walked in until we left, customer service was first class.
Checking out
Very clean, no problem parking, excellent breakfast , friendly staff, quick service, very spacious bedroom
Shower wasn’t great but it wouldn’t stop me from staying again
Good food and friendly staff
What can I say,my booking was cancelled at short notice saying that the venue would be closed for the weekend. No explanation.
The fact that i was let down,I wanted to stay there as we'd had a couple of lovely meals on our past visits from Australia and since my husband passed away just a few months ago I wanted to recapture my memories only disappointment 😥 you did transfer me to a partner hotel but that's not the issue.
Nice property with good food
Could do with a little make over
Excellant all roundn/a

Staff as extremely accommodating and friendly, Food was fab as well
Comfotable bed Warm Good breakfast
Tv in room bigger
It was much nicer that online photos and food was great
Room was huge and warm in a cold winter night
A bit dated but nice
Everything, the staff were very friendly and welcoming, always ready to help, especially Mags who was very fast to study my preferences and remembered throughout my stay at the hotel The reception is welcoming and the rooms are standard sizes. Location is easy to get there and close to the center. Brakefast is adequate and arranged to suit your timings. Dinner is classy with good menus and good ambience.
I didn't experience anything I don't like.
Great location and friendly staff. Dog friendly. Very large bed and spotlessly clean. The bedrooms are set back from the road so you get an excellent night’s sleep. Half price dinner and drinks offer which we took advantage of. Plenty of parking and close to the town if you fancy a walk. Popular retail stores directly opposite for onward travel provisions.
Nothing.
Have stayed here many times ,On this occasion we were upgraded to a superb ground floor suite .
