Our stay was excellent, the location is stunning and our room was beautiful. It was a pleasure to chat with the staff and get a lot of useful tips what to see around.
Nice bar. Pleasant furnishings
Suprise that breakfast was totally self service in a hotel. A bit old fashioned furnishings in places
Very old and traditional Scottish building
Nothing
Nice place nice location
Reduced service for good
The room was dated but large The owner was a delight, larger than life character….
Arrived at Mansfield castle and asked why we couldn’t eat there as advertised. This operation is not being clear about how it operates…..it wasn’t what I expected Moved to Marangie House hotel…..twin hotel? Staffing issues were plain to see Food was expensive and not up to standard…even for pub grub. It turned out most guests had walked into town and eaten takeout
I like old buildings with character like the hotel. It’s old, but that is what I liked about it
Nothing
Very sweet
All good
Magnifique château. Propreté irréprochable. Personnel très sympathique. Nous recommandons .
Rien
Exterior of the building Young woman on reception was pleasant & helpful & offered us a room closer to to the entrance as we had several bags.
The restaurant and bar were closed, there was no mention of this at the time of booking and no reduction in cost. Hotel interior is tired and run down. Minimal staff available. We were offered an alternative hotel but only after we had complained and unpacked our luggage!
The initial photo of the facility. The exterior makes it inviting. The Morning staff were very pleasant.
The interior is run down. Arrival was cold and uncomfortable was advised to go to their sister hotel for drinks, dinner or a warm breakfast. We drove over for dinner but was not what one would expect especially when they have a bar but don’t know how to make drinks or prices so drank a beer and left to go find other arrangements. The room was very uncomfortable and bed was nothing but springs making for the worst night sleep and terrible pains. Even had to request towels. I definitely do not recommend this place for overnight stays.
Traditional character - good location, super welcoming & friendly staff
Noisy overnight from squeaky doors. Over the bath Shower took ages to navigate to a comfortable temperature. Needs an update, slightly shabby
Keine Beschwerden.
The character of the building - slightly worn but charming. Excellent, helpful staff.

Gute Lage / super Personal (Transfer zur Glenmorangie Distillery)
Frühstück war durchschnittlich/ nichts Gekochtes, nichts Frisches
location was great , didn’t bother to have breakfast as only continental
the rooms are very dated
Castle setting
No kitchen facilities
Beautiful hotel, very authentic, enjoyed very much :)
Sehr nette Mitarbeiter, zuvorkommend, tolles Ambiente
Wow! Was my first impression and I left with the same as Mansfield Castle was top class in every department and beautiful. The place is just dripping with character and the staff are most welcoming. The food was also excellent and so I would recommend it to anyone.
Leaving.
NA
The hotel was dated, my room needed lots of maintenance. Bathroom unkempt.
The quiet location in urban environment. Interesting building . Size of room , it was huge! Lovely views.
Faded luxury, really needs a revamp . Tired and dated. Bit spooky!
Very memorable place and stay for one night. Received a very warm welcome Loved the building and it’s history Had some dog friendly rooms and bar area also allowed dogs. Catered for our vegan daughter when we rang that morning to request meals all enjoyed our evening meal and the continental breakfast had a very good choice that included a variety of cold cooked meats. After reading the mixed reviews all I can say it exceeded our expectations and was a stand out place to stay for us in our much enjoyed 2 week trip around the highlands. Thank you
Bit Gutted the first room given hadn’t been cleaned so we had to be moved as cleaning staff had left by then. This room the then Norwegian King had stayed in was a stunning wow room however the Rose room next given was also very nice.
good and nice
Everything good until read introduction, Ms Fbowler shows up sometimes...
Breakfast was as expected. A cooked option would have been nice. The coffee from the machine was really nice.
Minor issue could leave a more professional impression, such as staff uniform, no bare belly's. That said the young staff were lovely and friendly.
Looked nice from the outside.. continental breakfast only but was nice. The receptionist was exceptional and very helpful.
Bed was really hard and the duvet wasn't wide enough even to fit over the bed let alone have any overhang.. just never slept and one of our parties room smelt badly of drains. Had to go in car to sister hotel to get an evening meal..(had a lovely meal though)
Prachtige entourage en erg vriendelijk personeel
Ontbijt mag gevarieerder.
Friendly host, very dog friendly- garden wing has an enclosed garden. Food was good.
Myself, my two young girls and Husband stayed in this beautiful castle at the weekend. The staff were all super lovely and helpful! A huge shout out to Caitlin who was so sweet and fun making our daughters feel very special throughout our stay! We were lucky enough to get chatting to John (the owner) and his lovely wife Esmeralda who were also really interesting with some great stories. Such an incredible experience! The chef was also superb and accommodating to our vegan diet.
Very basic
Beautiful looking building and grand staircase to 1st floor.
Drive is broken up, and you're greeted with a rotten car left in the car park that they cut the grass round. The hotel is very dated and in need of an update. There is no tv in the room. The toilet was not fastened to the wall, and the sink was cracked, and part had been glued back on the side. The bed creaked, and you had springs in your back all night. The pillows were as thick as the morning toast. I've never been so glad to leave a hotel in all my days.
The service was brilliant - everyone was friendly and helpful. Dinner was delicious and the whole atmosphere was very relaxed and comfortable - we were given a choice of where to eat in the hotel. The room was lovely and we would love to stay again.
Nothing
Great character very quiet. Easy parking
A bit dated. Furnishings etc need replacing. Windows in poor state
Gut. Die Backwaren waren eher Kalt und Weich. Der Kaffee könnte auch besser sein. Das Badezimmer war sehr rustchig bzw ölig.
The Mansfield Castle Hotel is one of the traditionally furnished Scottish hotel with lots of tartan. Tain is quite a nice small town with some interesting bits and away from the A9. Service was good on checkin at the dining rooms and generally. We were upgraded to a turret suite as it was busy. Nicely eccentric with a huge bathroom. Dinner was fine, haddock good but Anne's lamb was tough. However some warnings No lift or porter No fridge No safe No hot breakfast (continental only) Also a bit expensive but then it was high season.
Restaurant wasn't open the day I arrived. They charge 15 pounds for a mediocre continental breakfast with no hot food.
Very helpful, good sized bedroom & comfortable Lovely breakfast

Although a little dated the hotel was very well looked after and exceptionally clean. The location was great, a short walk to town. Ample parking, nice grounds, impressive building and lovely traditional communal areas. The room was a little bit dated, but very clean and spacious with a large bed and everything we needed. Towels were lovely and fluffy, appreciated the heated towel rail. Shower had good pressure and hot water. Nice view of trees outside. We had breakfast at the sister hotel which was great.
We had a great stay, rooms could be more luxury with a few additions.
Lovely old world charm, spacious, convenient location. Breakfast included
Beautiful building, close to centre of Tain. Loved the 3 legged cat!
A little run down.
The room was very grand with plenty of vintage furniture. The views were amazing and the ensuite was fantastic.
Some of the facilities were a bit out dated. The bed although clearly vintage could do with its screws tightening or replacing. Didnt like the fact we were given kitchen timings for meals and when it came to breakfast there was only a continental option which considering what we paid for the stay felt unjust. We ended up going into town and getting a cooked breakfast for extra expense.
The staff was friendly and helpful. The room comfortable and we enjoyed the lounge and restaurant very much. We had a very nice stay.
Die Lage und der Anblick von außen.
Total runtergekommenes Hotel.
Loved the location and staff, very helpful and attentive. They even stayed late so we could eat
Poor breakfast for cost of room. Poor value for money
Le château
Chambre datant des années 80
very good breakfasts, great view from the bedroom and dinning room, dramatic location close to Stirling
Staff are very friendly and helpful
Rooms are very tired
Medewerkers zeer vriendelijk en centrale ligging hotel. We hadden een ruime kamer. Upgrade.
Friendly atmosphere. Room was large, bed was nice and comfy (king size)
great food
Beautiful old castle. Unique experience. Lovely furniture and art works. Friendly staff. Big room.
Bed was a little too firm. I suppose that comes with being an antique. A more modern mattress may have helped.
This was a really quirky property with lots of corridors, lovely decor and very friendly and helpful staff.
We missed a full Scottish breakfast but there was lots of choice from the continental offering.
Staff were lovely throughout. Food in restaurant was really nice. Good location for walking to town and plenty of parking. A grand old building.
The decor and communal areas throughout appeared tired and yet building has huge potential.
Whisky.
The price.
An impressive Victorian castle. Comfortable dog friendly bar area. Food was good. Staff really friendly and helpful.
Bit of a trek to Garden rooms up and down stairs round corridors. A ground floor entrance at the back would be a bonus. Decoration etc is quite tired.
Wonderful hotel with lots of charm and great service.
Breakfast was good.
The bed was hard, the shower was difficult because it was over the bath.
Très belle chambre.
Rien
The location, the room, and the history of it.
I just prefer a more protein forward, hot breakfast such as eggs, as I don't eat a lot of what was offered.
Historisches Ambiente, gutes Frühstück und guter Service
Viele Treppen zum Zimmer
The beautiful charm of the building and personalised service
The bed was uncomfortable
The staff were friendly. All went the extra mile to make a good experience. The building itself is lovely. The history of the castle is interesting and unique.
The current state of the property is showing signs of wear and could really benefit from some attention to restore its charm. The driveway, for instance, has several deep ruts that need to be filled in. The gardens are in desperate need of care - they could use some love and revitalization to restore their charm. The garden fountain is not operable which makes it look rather sad. The room decor is tired and dated. The bar area has an unusual beach-themed vibe does not quite align with the stately manor aesthetic of the rest of the property.
The young lady checking us in was charming and obviously having to multi task. The breakfast was continental due to kitchen problems but was more than adequate.
Dinner in the restaurant was very good but only a continental breakfast in the morning.
Beautiful place and staff were very friendly.
Dinner menu could have had more choice.
