This was a really nice hotel on a beautiful property. Staying here gets you 24 hr access to the grounds and hot springs. I would definitely recommend staying here. The breakfast was really good but skip the restaurant for dinner. It was overpriced and not very good.

If you are going to check-out this area, this hotel is a "must". The garden itself is stunning, and the thermal pools are enjoyable as well. The breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of fruit and a daily menu for eggs/pancakes/etc. Great service too from all the staff - hotel, restaurants, cleaning, etc. 10/10 would stay here again.

Stayed here for 4 nights after our stay that the sister property in Ponta Delgada (Grand Hotel Acores, see other review). Whilst this is a 4 star property compared to the 5 star Grand Hotel Acores, actually this hotel I liked slightly better mainly as the culinary side was much stronger. The hotel itself is far from new but in good condition, rooms are a bit more basic than in Grand hotel Acores but fine overall. Leisure options in the hotel are ok, decent indoor pool but the gym is tiny and without proper equipment. Highlight is clearly the Terra Nostra Gardens the hotel is set within and as a hotel guest you have the gardens and the hot spring outdoor pools to yourself before and after the gardens close to the public which is great. The restaurants were good with a really decent breakfast and dinner at no the the main restaurant and the Sushi restaurant were also very good. Overall happy with the stay although the room price is on the higher end of the scale for a 4 star property.

This is a lovely hotel and Furnas is a charming small town. The restaurants in the hotel are excellent, and the service is top notch. Being able to access the gardens and springs after the public leaves is a huge bonus! If you like gardens you will love the botanical gardens. The island is small enough so that this is convenient to most if not all other attractions.

From the moment we booked our stay, Terra Nostra Garden Hotel exceeded every expectation. Even before we arrived, Carolina arranged a private transfer from DoubleTree by Hilton. Our driver, António, welcomed us in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle with complimentary water and shared fascinating stories about São Miguel throughout the journey. It was the perfect start to our stay. Although our room was not yet ready, the reception team immediately gave us access to the magnificent Terra Nostra Park. Spending those first hours wandering through 12.5 hectares of botanical gardens filled with ponds, giant ferns, palm trees and exotic plants was unforgettable. One of the greatest privileges of staying at the hotel is exclusive access to the gardens and thermal pools after 4:30 p.m., once they close to the public. Experiencing peaceful evening walks through the gardens and relaxing in the warm thermal waters almost entirely by ourselves was magical and became one of the highlights of our stay. When we returned, our luggage had already been delivered to our room. We were welcomed with fresh fruit, a well-stocked minibar, a beautiful garden view, luxurious bathroom amenities, bathrobes, slippers and even a separate set of towels specifically for the thermal pools—a thoughtful detail that perfectly reflects the hotel’s attention to guests’ comfort. The culinary experience deserves special recognition. We first visited TN Sushi Restaurant, where the Wagyu dumplings and the Wagyu sushi topped with black truffle were simply outstanding. Breakfast was excellent every morning, with drinks included, fresh products and attentive service. For my husband’s birthday, the hotel created an experience we will never forget. Breakfast was beautifully served in our room exactly as requested and was absolutely delicious. A huge thank you to the chefs for making the morning so special. Our couples hot stone massage was another highlight. The two therapists provided one of the most relaxing massages we have ever experienced, paying great attention to detail and making us feel completely refreshed. Dinner at the restaurant was exceptional. Every course was beautifully presented and perfectly executed. The terrine, fish dishes and desserts were all memorable, combining traditional Azorean ingredients with refined techniques. Every bite showed genuine passion from the kitchen. Returning to our room each evening brought another lovely surprise: beautifully presented complimentary sweets. On my husband’s birthday, however, the surprise was unforgettable—a bottle of chilled champagne waiting for us beside the sofa. It was such an elegant and thoughtful gesture that perfectly captured the warmth and generosity of the entire team. The reception staff were always warm and welcoming, while the evening bar with live music, creative cocktails and delicious tapas created the perfect atmosphere to end each day. The biggest question I left with is: why is this hotel officially rated four stars? In terms of hospitality, attention to detail, dining, spa, atmosphere and genuine care for guests, this was one of the finest hotel experiences we have ever had. Compared with several five-star hotels we have visited, Terra Nostra Garden Hotel stands comfortably among the very best. Thank you to Carolina, António and the entire team for making my husband’s birthday so unforgettable. We will absolutely return as it’s worth its price!

We had a nearly two weeks stay in TNGH in Furnas. And ... it were the most amazing holidays we ever had! Quiet hotel is situated (well, at the bottom of the "working" volcano ...) in the botanical garden which is nearly 200 years old (it was seen by the old, old trees), with fabulous trees and flowers, excellently taken care of by gardeners. Also the history of the hotel and the architectural "art deco" design - nice, nice, nice! Well, having a possibility of using thermal water 24 hours a day was absolutely great. The room was big, with all needed equipment, perfectly clean, every day changed towels and bathrobe. Cleaning ladies were very nice and helpful. Every evening cookies - that was what we needed before going to bed! Two restaurants - sushi and TH. Well, sushi was totally fabulous, not many different courses ()especially gunkhan), but the product quality and service - fantastic; the restaurant - perfect, well designed and prepared menu, fantastic wines ... We just tried some of the dishes, but all were perfect - beef tartare, lamb, passion fruit souffle (at least *** Michelin stars). Gardener bar - super cocktails and burgers, with every evening live music ... (maybe more Portuguese rhythms ..?). What else ... :-) ...? Absolutely fantastic staff! Our stay at Terra Nostra Garden Hotel was exceptional from beginning to end. The hotel contacted us before arrival and arranged a flawless private transfer. On arrival, although our room was still being prepared, we were immediately given access to the beautiful Terra Nostra Botanical Garden and thermal pools, which was a wonderful gesture. The room was elegant, spotless and very comfortable, with a lovely garden view, fresh fruit, a well-stocked minibar, bathrobes and quality bathroom amenities. The food was outstanding. We particularly loved the Sushi Bar, the excellent breakfast and the restaurant, where every dish was beautifully prepared. The birthday breakfast served in our room was perfect, and the surprise bottle of champagne waiting for us later that evening made the celebration unforgettable. The couples hot stone massage was fantastic, and every member of staff was friendly, professional and genuinely attentive. What impressed us most was the attention to detail. Every evening we returned to find complimentary sweets waiting in our room, and throughout the stay we felt that the team truly cared about making our visit special. This is easily one of the finest hotels we have stayed in. In our opinion, the overall experience feels closer to a five-star hotel than a four-star one. We would happily return and highly recommend it to anyone visiting São Miguel.

We went to the TN restaurant at the Terra Nostra hotel when in San Miguel. We really enjoyed our meal and the setting is beautiful. My only complaint would be that the people at the reception desk and some in the restaurant were on the cold side. I'm not sure if it's because we weren't staying at the hotel, but the service was not what we expected. When asking at reception if we could walk through the gardens before dinner, the response was almost rude. She said it was closed and we should have noted that if we're not staying at the hotel it closes at 4:30. I was not aware of that, but I think it could have been handled differently. The hotel is about 45 minutes from Ponta Delgado so we went early thinking we could spend time in the gardens. We ended up walking around the town which was nice, but I think allowing dinner guests to wander the property before dinner would be nice.

This was the second phase of an e-bike tour of Sao Miguel for 3 nights with bed and breakfast organised by Sunvil. The hotel is quite large and very comfortable. It is attached to a botanical park with thermal lake which is open to the public during the day. After hours, hotel guests can go into the park and use the very large thermal pool. Grey towels and robes are provided as the thermal water stains! The staff were highly trained and very helpful. The concierges found an indoor space for us to charge our e-bikes. The food in the restaurant tended to be very rich so the reception staff were able to make a table reservation for us one night at a local restaurant. Furnas is a very busy inland tourist town so we were lucky to find a restaurant with availability.

The staff were really helpful and with plenty of parking the location is great before an early flight.

More often than not we weren’t able to find parking in the main lot. Then had to use desk staff to park nearby across the street.

This was my third visit to the hotel, and my second time staying 3 nights. I highly recommend a stay. The beds are incredibly comfortable, the vibe is peaceful, upscale, and yet not stuffy, and the staff is extremely professional. It feels like a special place because it is. The staff at The Gardener Restaurant are also very professional. Breakfast is excellent. I arranged several taxi rides ahead of time through the concierge and the taxis arrived seamlessly with a careful driver. The gardens and thermal pools are lovely, and overall maintenance of the grounds has improved over the years. I did have an issue with my original room; the second night, a loud, incessant noise with an ever changing tempo (possibly a radiator) from an adjoining, empty room lasted over three maddening hours. I didn't leave to find the night staff because my daughter managed to sleep though the maddening noise (apparently dreaming about motorcycles). When I told the front desk the next morning, they immediately offered to move us to another room, a satisfactory resolution considering you can't get sleep back. I had expected them to offer an explanation or say they would fix it that day...my guess is, it may be an ongoing issue, so, maybe don't stay in rooms 125/126 anytime soon. My overall experience was excellent.

We enjoyed the amenities, especially the 24-hour access to the pools. The front desk staff were friendly and accommodating. The botanical gardens are absolutely beautiful and become especially peaceful and tranquil after they close to the public.

For a hotel that prides itself on comfort, it was the least comfortable accommodation of our entire vacation. As someone with chronic pain, I barely slept during our stay. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, and the air conditioning did not work at all. It felt as though the hotel was designed to look like a wellness retreat rather than function as one. It’s very telling that despite being offered four different pillow options, I did not find a single one comfortable. Our room was directly above the entrance and faced the road, making it extremely noisy until around 11:00 p.m. and again from about 5:00 a.m. A fire alarm also went off in the middle of the night, and afterwards the radiator made loud noises that kept us awake for the rest of the night. The room was consistently hot and stuffy in June, and smelled of perfume mixed with mold and mustiness. As someone with celiac disease, I did not feel comfortable dining at the restaurant. When I asked which breakfast buffet items were safe for me to eat, the staff did not seem knowledgeable or confident. Yet while I was eating, I was asked approximately five times whether my plate could be cleared which felt unnecessary and intrusive. The food at both breakfast and dinner was poor and outrageously overpriced, costing three to four times more than better meals we enjoyed elsewhere on the islands. I also did not appreciate guests taking photos in the pool area. A wellness hotel should encourage and prioritize guests’ privacy and comfort. Although the staff were incredibly kind and accommodating, the overall atmosphere felt tense and uncomfortable. I left with the impression that something wasn’t working behind the scenes. Whether that was management, staffing, or something else, I can’t say, but it affected the guest experience. Overall, there was a disconnect between the hotel’s branding and the reality of our experience.

An absolutely outstanding experience from beginning to end! This is, without a doubt, one of the best resorts we've ever stayed at. The location is simply perfect, offering breathtaking views and easy access to everything. The atmosphere is peaceful, elegant, and incredibly relaxing. What truly makes this place exceptional is the staff. Every single person we met was warm, welcoming, professional, and genuinely dedicated to making our stay unforgettable. The food was phenomenal fresh, delicious, beautifully presented, and with plenty of variety at every meal. If you're looking for the perfect combination of luxury, comfort, incredible hospitality, and an unforgettable atmosphere, this resort is it. We can't wait to come back. Highly, highly recommended!

This hotel is a gem. The location in the heart of Furnas, alongside the town gardens and hot pools which are closed to the public past sunset but remains open for hotel guests; the luxury quality of the hotel and its team; the delicious drinks and food at the hotel restaurant and bar; and the comfort, cleanliness and little attentions in the hotel room... it was a peace haven, and I would recommend to anyone seeking rest, mindfulness and a good dose of nature!

We stayed for two days at the Terra Nostra Hotel in Furnas, Azores, and had a wonderful experience. The hotel staff knew that we were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary, and they made our stay truly special. From the moment we arrived, we were treated with the highest level of professionalism, kindness, and hospitality. Every member of the staff was attentive and genuinely committed to making our stay memorable. The hotel is beautiful, the atmosphere is relaxing, and the service is exceptional. Being located in the botanical garden was incredible. The gardens at night were beautiful and the staff was very kind and helpful!

Olivia the concierge was wonderful and helped with booking dinner reservations. When staying on the property you have 24/7 access to the attached park including the mineral pool and hot tubs. This was wonderful to have access to the park after it was closed to the public and made it a memorable portion of our trip. It was also a great location to explore the east half of the island. They also give you robes, slippers, and towels for the mineral pool as the water is brown and does stain swimwear, other fabrics easily

The room was a nice size but was a bit pricey -especially considering our windows overlooked the roof of one of the buildings and that the room only had a double bed.

This hotel is located in a hot spring that you can use after hours. Located on beautiful grounds in an Art Deco hotel. The area around was walkable, and I was able to find other dining options for vegetarian needs. The walk to Furnas Lake was also beautiful.

Die besondere Architektur des Hotels im Art-déco-Stil ist außergewöhnlich. Das Personal war ausnahmslos freundlich und zuvorkommend, die Sauberkeit eine glatte 10/10. Die Möglichkeit, als Hotelgast nachts den Park in aller Ruhe genießen zu können, war ein unvergessliches Erlebnis. Ich war bereits unzählige Male im Parque Terra Nostra, aber dieses Erlebnis ist anders – und ich werde definitiv wiederkommen. Das Frühstück war ebenfalls hervorragend und die Servicequalität die hier gelebt wird ist wirklich herausragend!

This is a really wonderful place with a lovely garden and the thermal bath was just great. We enjoyed it very much. As it was my birhday upon arrival, we were greated with a bottle of sparkling wine in the room....thank you again for the lovely gesture . I appreciated that very much.

Facilities were amazing. The garden was stunning and being able to have the thermal baths for yourself after 16:30 was insane. The attention to detail and service from the staff was immaculate; they made my birthday and my partner’s incredibly special.

The park is marvelous. The thermal jacuzzi was good. The staff was incredible, in particular a guy at the reception that helped us to fix the room's issues.

There were too many tourists coming just for a couple of hours but we could not use the thermal pool during the day as it was overcrowded. There were many small issues (safe, charger, toilet flush, etc,) in the room that were fixed by the personnel.

This was our first stop in the Azores. After the flight from the USA this was the perfect place to rest and enjoy the beautiful gardens. The hotel itself was just great. The staff friendly. Parking. Excellent proximity to the town. Our only mistake was not staying longer. We would recommend it!

Que dire du petit déjeuner...copieux, varié et délicieux 😋 . L'autre atout est la possibilité de fréquenter les bains et jacuzzi 24h/24h. Si la pluie est au rendez-vous, vous pouvez vous replier vers la piscine intérieure ou la salle de sport. Le personnel est à votre écoute.

Clean room and great access to the hot springs.

Very comfortable hotel right on the grounds of the botanical garden. As guests we could go into the botanical garden and its thermal pools anytime of the day. There are two smaller pools set into the garden vegetation that provided thermal waters, clearer and hotter than the main pool, that we had to ourselves. Dinner and bar service and food selection were excellent, including the traditional volcanic steam dinner. Concierge provided helpful assistance booking taxis for private tours.

No matter what we did, the shower leaked all over the bathroom. Pillows were too big, neck hurt in the morning. Botanical gardens look as if they needed some care though.

The service was absolutely amazing! The staff were very nice and really did their best to make our stay as comfortable and relaxing as possible. The pools were incredible! And having access to them 24/7 so we could go outside of the public hours was the best! We watched the sun go down each night in the pools and practically had the place to ourselves. It was incredible. We had a massage in the spa that was so very relaxing -- really well done. The food was excellent. The drinks were top notch and unique. It's such a lovely space people were in great moods and we made friends with other guests from all over the world as we mutually enjoyed the spaces and services of Terra Nostra. The botanical gardens made it feel like we were in paradise. I can't say enough good things about this place and I hope we get to come back again soon!

Établissement cosy au cœur d’un sublime jardin . Tout est pensé pour que l’on se sente bien ! On a aimé la mise à disposition de serviettes et peignoirs beiges pour les bains extérieurs . Le petit déjeuner est fabuleux et le service est impeccable !

L’eau de la piscine intérieure était beaucoup trop froide . Le hammam n’avait pas de douchette pour rincer les banquettes.

Hotellet har ett mycket bra läge i Furnas med direkt tillgång till en stor park med thermiskt bad, som man har access till även utanför parkens besökstider, mycket uppskattat. Baren och frukost håller hög klass.

Det finns ett antal rum som har genomgångsdörr till ett intilliggande rum. Det är bra som familjerum, men fruktansvärt för par med ett rum. Det är otroligt dåligt isolerat mellan dessa rum, man hör grannnarnas snarkningar, prat, tv etc. Dessa rum upprätthåller inte acceptabel standard. Vi bad att få byta rum direkt när vi anlänt. Tyvärr kunde hotellet inte hjälpa oss. Om ni ska boka på detta hotell kräv att få rum utan dörr till intilliggande rum och få det bekräftat av hotellet, annars risk för besvikelse.

Não há dúvida que este é um daqueles hotéis pelos quais vale a pena pagar um pouco mais pela experiência. O serviço é bom, o pequeno almoço é excelente... mas a possibilidade de se usar o tanque termal e piscinas a qualquer hora do dia ou noite é a cereja no topo do bolo. É mesmo mágico!

Still a lovely location, and access to the geothermal baths is certainly a memorable plus. But the in-house catering is overpriced to the point of insulting classic Portuguese hospitality, some of the staff are clearly not having a great time working there and a few of the design decisions (plain glass in bathroom windows) are just silly.

Great service and excellent restaurants. The 24/7 access to the hot springs and botanical garden is definitely worth the price. We truly enjoyed the thermal baths, especially having access outside of public hours. Highly recommend this hotel, 10/10!

The staff was incredible, and even gifted us a bottle of wine once they caught wind of it being my girlfriend's birthday - which was an incredible surprise! The location is great as well, and we both absolutely adored the park and the thermal pool + jacuzzi. The adjacent restaurant, which we visited for both breakfast (included in the booking) and dinner, was out of this world! The waiters were all very friendly and polite, and made the entire experience even more memorable.

The room and the bed were super comfortable, I slept like a baby. Great breakfast and helpful staff. Parking available. Fantastic gardens and geothermal pools accessed 24 hours! Everything just perfect!

Like a dream! The hotel is perfect: friendly staff, great rooms, excellent breakfast and particularly a huge garden with thermal baths that can be accessed 24h. I really enjoyed the stay and hope to return one day again.

Já é a quarta vez que fico hospedado neste hotel, reúne tudo o que eu valorizo. ter a oportunidade de assistir ao nascer do dia no lago termal a ouvir o despertar dos pássaros é qualquer coisa de magistral! Pequeno almoço excelente, todos os funcionários excelentes! Um abraço especial ao Fábio, rápidas melhoras à Dª Nélia (Companhia das manhãs!) e para finalizar um abraço ao senhor Mário Franco. Breakfast was magnificent. Plenty of options and all of them of excellent quality. Rooms were classic and comfortable. Thermal bath access after hours and thermal jacuzzi was a wonderful experience.

Location, and after hours and early morning access to full park pools 24 hours. In addition, even though we did not use, access for the entire day we checked out. Furnas Cocktail in lounge to end day.

We already knew the garden but not the hotel and the staff. The team, the atmosphere, the rooms...everything go beyond our expectations.

The most relaxing stay ever! Everything was perfect — the breakfast buffet with incredible fresh fruits, the 24/7 access of the thermal baths, stunning gardens to wander through, and a bar with the most talented bartenders. We will be back ASAP.
