Provider-sourced guest reviews.
This was my second stay at Bahia, and I returned because my first visit was genuinely wonderful. Unfortunately, this experience was very different. Guests can no longer access the resort restaurants—only the buffet, which had long lines, overwhelmed staff, and food that disappeared almost immediately. The room’s Wi-Fi was extremely limited, and the entertainment felt noticeably reduced. Last time, there was a full team of 4–5 members running activities and engaging with guests; this time, there were only 1–2, and the overall energy was not the same. A staff member shared that hundreds of employees were laid off after Hyatt took over, and many new policies were put in place. The workers themselves remain kind, hardworking, and welcoming—they are not the issue. But the changes have significantly impacted the guest experience. Because of this, I would not return to this resort, nor would I recommend it.
Everyone was so friendly and very helpful
At the airport we got sucked in to going to what we found once we were there it was about timeshares which was supposed to be a 90 minute talk turned into 5 hours that was the only thing I didn't like
I enjoyed my stay, this is the 3rd time I have been and I was not disappointed the room was clean and I had my television reset to English so in the late night l was able to watch movies in English the mini bar in the fridge was fully stocked entertainment was great staff and polite really great time
Honestly, I was truly disappointed. We have been here last year and it truly changed for the worst. The food is terrible, fast food and no variety once so ever. The service was also not good because they treated you like your trash. Only a few workers were actually nice to us. Plus, you have to wait 15-30 minutes for the stupid car carts to pick you up just to drive you to the beach or something for only 5 minutes. When we were also leaving early in the morning, we have asked concierge services to send someone to help us with our suitcase since my mom had a bad back. We waited 30 minutes and they never came. We had to bring it down ourselves from the second floor. I put two stars instead of one because the ocean was alright, a little seaweed but that’s nature. Would not recommend honestly. Much better places out there.
Beware the sudden flurry of Google reviews. We were cornered and asked to get our phones and scan a QR code. This took us to a review page where the staff member asked us to leave a positive review as it really helped them. We had stayed here at Coba previously and also stayed at the Tulum hotel side. They have now taken a chunk of Coba and turned it into the adults only Tequila hotel. If you stay at Coba you do not have access to facilities at the other hotels on the resort bar booking the restaurants. You will not even be served a drink at the bars. Changes are definitely needed: *More shade around the main pool in the form of palapas or umbrella/parasols. There is a real lack of this at Coba considering it is aimed at families. It was baking hot around the pool this August. Akumal had the parasols you can open if needed. Why not Coba? *Shade over the babies pool area. A large sail parasol would be fantastic. Far too hot for very young children in there without shade. *Free use of all snack bars for all guests regardless of which hotel you are in. If you are a beach person (it is too hot around the pool anyway), you will need to leave the beach and get the trolley back up to Coba just to use their snack bar or the main buffet. Then wait for a trolley and travel back again. You are not able to use the snack bars at Tulum or Akumal. This seems very unfair. I can understand not using the main buffets BUT free use of just the snack bars for all would make a huge difference. At Tulum and Akumal hotels you order at the snack bars and its made ready to order, which cuts down on wastage so I fail to see any real issue with putting this into practice. *Coba snack bar. It has mesh around the sides but unlike the Akumal snack bar there are no rope curtains over the entrances to put off the birds from entering. They fly in and out, landing on the food area and taking food. We witnessed them physically stood inside the fruit trays, in the juice, eating the fruit in the dessert section. This is a bio hazard and unacceptable. They walk over the tables and cutlery, mess over the furniture and steal food from plates. Just putting up the rope curtains would be a huge help. It works both ways as left over pizza isn't a good diet for a bird either. Everyone loves the wildlife - just not in their food. *A small station in the lobbies that tells you about all the wildlife that you may see on site and the surrounding area. What they are, what they eat etc. A section about the turtles nesting. Plus a reminder not to feed wildlife or disturb nests on the beach. This would be a really interesting addition for guests and there is plenty room for this in all the lobbies. *A better variety of food. Desserts taste of nothing anymore, they just look pretty. The menu in August was limited with stations shut and the same dishes being served each night. As a vegetarian I lived off pizza, pasta/noodles, potatoes and rice at lunch and evenings. I like chickpeas but didnt want the same chickpea curry every night. Breakfast was by far the best. Lots of choice there. The good points: *Our room was clean and tidy each day. I could not fault our cleaner at all. *Main buffet staff were superb. A big shout out to the amazing Rosa at the breakfast service. A real asset to Bahia and so efficient. We will really miss her. Also Joshua. *Coba beach area. Beautiful. Far less sargassum seaweed on this section. Users of the other hotels can also use this section though Coba residents are not supposed to use theirs. We were lucky in that it was apparently low season so plenty chairs but I can imagine it being an issue in high season if other users are taking the Coba chairs. The beach however is beautiful with all the turtle nests marked out and someone checking daily from the eco team. * Public transport available right outside on the main highway above the casino/hacienda. The large white Collectivo vans are their version of taking the bus. It cost us around 55 pesos per person into Playa Del Carmen centre or around 40 pesos per person into Tulum centre using the regular Collectivo vans that travel up and down this highway. They flash their lights to see if you want them to stop. Hop on, tell them where you want to go and pay when you get off. Much, much more expensive in a taxi. There are also Collectivo depots in both towns so easy to get back. Just keep track of your journey on Google maps so you can shout out to remind them where to stop on the way back (just call Bahia por favor). They will drop you on the highway. Having been here previously, I would love to come back. I just wish they would make the simple changes needed. I understand the hotels are now in partnership with Hyatt and our stay was very mixed feelings to be honest. A shame as it costs so much. I can only hope things get better.
Bon établissement. Produit global. Environnement
Rapport qualité / prix en baisse depuis le joint venture avec Hyatt. Augmentation du prix sans amélioration du produit et des services fournis sur place
The rooms are large and comfortable with a mini fridge that is stocked daily. The bathroom has plenty of counter space but you must request extra towels. Using the AmStar service was convenient and there was free wifi onboard. The resort is clean; friendly, helpful staff; numerous entertainment activities for all ages; good variety of à la carte restaurants. It’s in transition with Hyatt Hotels becoming their partner so I believe that amenities and services will strive for an even higher level of achievement. The Privilege Club concierge staff were excellent and strived to improve our guest experience even more when we had questions or needs. For example, our son wasn’t feeling well the evening of our arrival so he opted not to go to dinner but the Club concierge made sure that he was sent some soup and continued to check in with us for the next two days afterwards. We weren’t worried because if he continued to feel poorly, there was a 24-hour doctor at the Hacienda that he could’ve seen.
Fantastic holiday, staff are amazing, great pool entertainment, access to all hotel on sites and restaurants in all hotels, only down side in coba hotel the suit/room need updated, but cleaned daily
Lots of great amenities and a variety of food choices. Great staff make you feel very welcome.
This was our third time at Coba and there had been a few changes but nothing that stopped us having a great time. The resort had been split in 2 so initially my kids were disappointed that we could no longer use the food truck which is now part of the adults only Tequila resort. However, on check in we had been informed that as the resort was so quiet we could use the facilities at Tulum and Akumel also ( including restaurants) so this more than made up for this. We stayed for 2 weeks so had 6 restaurant visits, all fantastic. Buffet at Coba was ok, not so much choice as before but still plenty to choose from. We had 2 rooms which were spacious, cleaned daily and mini fridge restocked daily also. Air conditioning stopped working one day but was fixed by that evening so no issues. Huge pool with lots of loungers and a big shout out to the entertainment team for all the activities and games (no pressure to join in but we took part in most). All the staff throughout the resort were fantastic, friendly and always willing to help out.
Bahia coba & complex Rivera Maya Mexico was amazing it's our second visit to the complex and we weren't disappointed Lovely well kept grounds & friendly staff everyone from gardeners to management would greet you with a good morning or asking your plans for the day , hotel entertainment staff worked incredibly hard and always took time to chat a big shout out to Hannah, johnathan & Ronaldo pool activities were fabulous we especially enjoyed the foam party so much fun 😁 We found the food in coba buffet a little mixed but sufficient enough choice however we had access to the tulum & akumal without having to upgrade which was a bonus, we found the buffet selections alot better there aswell as being turned over quicker, the al a carte restaurants around the resort are 5***** we ate at 6 of them our favourites being the Japanese teppanaky & Brazilian grill the Italian, Mexican. La gourmet French & Indian were also amazing shout out to all the waiters service was 5***** all round We had a niggle with our room AC however this was dealt with , rooms are very spacious and cleaned daily to perfection Drinks are a plenty especially the pool bar waiters who weren't shy in filling up our flasks with plenty of variety cocktails 😀 There's also easy access to the beach and staff work very hard to clear the seaweed this wasn't a problem for us personally Plenty of outside excursions available which we booked from the hotel itself the trip to holbox island was wow , and self drive jeep on island of Cozumol was cracking we enjoyed every minute ***** We had a very pleasant stay all round and will definitely return ***** Thank you the Bell Family 😀😃🙃
I have recently stayed here with my husband and our 9-year-old son. After reading some mixed reviews before we travelled, I decided to go with an open mind, and I'm so glad I did because we had a fantastic holiday. We're already looking at booking again for next year! The rooms are a little dated, but they were clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. They come with air conditioning, which stays on even when you're out, so it was lovely returning to a cool room after a day by the pool. There was also a fridge stocked with bottled water, beer, and Pepsi. Housekeeping did a great job, cleaning the room daily and providing fresh towels. One of the highlights of our stay was the staff. Everyone was so friendly, welcoming, and always seemed happy to help. The entertainment team was brilliant, especially during the day. My son is usually quite difficult to entertain, but he got involved in so many of the activities, which meant I could actually relax by the pool! The cocktails were delicious and tasted even better while sitting at the swim-up bar. I'd also read negative comments about the food before we arrived, so I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. There was always plenty of choice, and we could always find something we enjoyed. In fact, I'd say it's the best buffet we've had at an all-inclusive hotel. The beach is on the smaller side, but we much preferred spending our time around the pool, so it didn't bother us at all. There were always plenty of sun loungers available, which made for a really relaxing atmosphere. The hotel shop is quite expensive, but you can easily catch a golf buggy to the market within the resort, where prices are much more reasonable. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel to families. We had such a wonderful time and genuinely don't understand some of the negative reviews we read beforehand. Everyone's expectations are different, but for us, this holiday exceeded them. We made some amazing memories and can't wait to return next year!
Went for our anniversary and wife’s birthday. When we arrived to our room, they left a bottle of champagne on the table. On our anniversary the staff decorated our door with a sash and left a bottle of tequila. Buffet was decent. Mikado ( à la carte) was fantastic Portofino was absolutely delicious Swim up bar was busy but never waited more than 5 minutes to get drinks which were great We will most definitely return
First the positives. The rooms are spacious, very clean and lovely to come back to after a hot day. The ac can be left on and it's so cool to walk into. Very comfortable beds and the cleaning service is excellent. Coffee making facility is not great so if it's something you like I'd recommend bringing a travel kettle. The mini bar is limited to a couple of beers, soft drinks and water but it was sufficient for us. Service throughout the hotel is fantastic. The staff are so polite and helpful. The odd tip goes down well but is not prompted. The pool area is very spacious and clean. Not very busy so no problem getting sunnbeds etcetera which are in great supply.. Entertainment, both day and evening, is standard quality and a bit biased towards the mexican guests. Now for the negatives. The food is very poor quality. Usually cold and tasteless. If you want a fried egg or omelette for breakfast be prepared to queue for 20 minutes or more as there is one person preparing them and that person does one at a time for some inexplicable reason. Toast is on one toaster and takes a few minutes so other items on your plate are cold by the time it comes to eat. Children are not very well catered for. Most children like chips, chicken nuggets etc. but they are not always available. Drinks. Oh dear. Tasteless flat and weak beer/lager . Some of the bars serve premium spirits . Drinks have been known to run out, especially at weekends when the local guests are at the hotel for a couple of nights. Both TUI and the hotel advertised the possibility of booking 3 a la Carte restaurants per week. We managed to book 3 for the first week via the app before we got here and they were top quality, both service and food. But try as we might we couldn't book anything for the second week as it just came up unavailable. All in all, I wouldn't recommend this hotel and am disappointed with TUI from whom I expected more. Best to pay a little more and get the full 5 star experience.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ **A Wonderful Family Holiday** We have just returned from a two-week stay at **Bahía Príncipe Coba**, travelling as a single parent with my two daughters, aged 2 and 4. I work as a Director in the hospitality industry at a Forbes Five-Star property, so I naturally look at hotels through both a guest's eyes and a hospitality professional's perspective. People often ask me what the difference is between a traditional five-star hotel and a Forbes Five-Star property. My answer is always the same: **it's service**. Luxury isn't just about beautiful facilities—it's about how you make people feel. Bahía Príncipe has an incredible amount to offer families. The resort is vast, beautifully maintained and spotlessly clean. There are multiple pools, children's water parks, kids' clubs and so many places to explore. The housekeeping, maintenance and gardening teams deserve huge recognition because the standard of cleanliness throughout the resort is exceptional. The restaurants were another highlight. We particularly enjoyed Portofino, Le Gourmet and the Japanese restaurant. Each restaurant had its own identity, which made dining feel special rather than simply repeating the buffet in a different setting. Every request I made before arrival and during our stay was handled quickly and professionally. One example was our room. After arriving, I realised I really needed a room with a bath because the shower was slippery for my daughters. The team arranged a room change with a bath as soon as possible and even provided a baby bath for my youngest. It was a simple gesture that made a huge difference and showed a genuine willingness to help families. We also visited Xel-Há, which is only around 15 minutes away and is well worth a visit. The only area where I feel the resort could improve is **consistency of service**. Some employees were absolutely exceptional—warm, welcoming, proactive and genuinely passionate about looking after guests. Others, however, appeared disengaged. On several occasions I saw staff directing guests elsewhere instead of helping directly, and I also noticed some employees using their phones while guests were waiting for assistance. These moments stood out because they contrasted so sharply with the outstanding service provided by many of their colleagues. As a parent, I also felt the approach taken by some lifeguards around the children's pools could be more compassionate. Safety should always come first, but many parents commented that whistles were used very frequently, even when children were simply enjoying themselves. At the same time, lifeguards were often standing in their huts on their phones rather than visibly supervising all areas of the children's pools. A more guest-focused approach would enhance the family experience while maintaining safety. One small operational improvement would also be ensuring that children's favourites, such as chips and ice cream, are replenished as consistently as burgers and hot dogs during busy periods. Finally, I want to recognise one member of staff who truly made our holiday unforgettable. **Yamile is an absolute credit to Bahía Príncipe.** She has a genuine passion for hospitality and effortlessly makes guests feel welcome, valued and cared for. She quietly works behind the scenes ensuring everything runs smoothly, but her impact is enormous. She consistently went above and beyond for both me and my daughters and represents exactly what luxury hospitality should be. I sincerely hope this review is shared with **Yamile's manager** so her outstanding performance can be formally recognised. Throughout our stay, she was truly **the shining star above everyone else**. Her warmth, professionalism, attention to detail and genuine care consistently set her apart. Employees like Yamile are the reason guests return, and she deserves recognition for the exceptional standard she delivers every single day. Overall, we have had a wonderful holiday. The facilities are excellent, the resort is beautifully maintained and there is so much for families to enjoy. With greater consistency in service standards, I genuinely believe Bahía Príncipe Coba could become one of the very best family resorts in Mexico. Thank you to everyone who helped make our holiday so special.
Hi everyone, I wanted to share a warning about the jewelry vendor operating right by the main reception desk at the Coba resort, so no one else gets caught out. Back in 2023, we spent over $500 USD on what was explicitly sold to me as a "silver platinum" chain, which came with a promised "lifetime warranty." Fast forward to now: the clasp has completely broken, and the metal has corroded, turning dark black and bright green. (Green oxidation only happens on cheap base metals like copper or brass, meaning the item is a total counterfeit). When I tried to use my lifetime warranty, I found out the email address on my receipt is completely dead. I contacted Bahia Principe Corporate directly, and their response has been shockingly poor. First, they tried to claim the shop is "external" to the resort (even though they are right by the lobby). Then they accidentally admitted they have a commercial rental agreement with them. To top it off: 1. The resort gave me a "new" email address to contact the vendor: customerservice@jk-diamond.com.mx. This email is also completely fake and bounces back. 2. When I told the resort that both the receipt email and the email they provided are dead, their official response was basically to blame me, stating that because they "do not obligate guests to purchase products," it isn't their problem. Bahia Principe is actively taking rent money from a business running a counterfeit jewelry scheme in their lobby, and then handing out fake contact info to guests to run them in circles when things break. For a $500+ purchase, this level of customer service is disgusting. The vendor is still physically operating on the resort premises right now, but their customer service channels are a complete ghost town. Please protect your hard-earned money and do not buy anything from the shops inside the resort!
We booked two rooms at this Hotel through Delta vacation for one week (June 21-28, 26) and travelled with my family (wife and two youth sons). Hotel location: Central between Playa Del Carmen and Tulum, with easy access to the main road so you can travel to vist the various attaction in the Yucatan Pennisola. Hotel Room are spacious, clean, great staff to serve at all times. Hotel Staff are very helpful and ready to serve with a big smile. Food and buffet are by far the worse quality in this hotel. Open buffett has the same tasteless varieties which seem to circulate between breakfast, lunch and dinners. Ala Carte restaurant which are 6 on the App but in reality only ONE is open every day and all showing fully booked every day of the week. We had to beg and fight our way through to get one or two reservation during our stay. It is a much better service and food quality. We had several activities planned during the week so, we enjoyed the central location but not the food at this hotel.
We're here right now and I have to say I wasn't expecting too much but how wrong can you be! I struggle to understand bad reviews about the place, no it's not 5* plus but then again you're not paying 5* plus prices. ROOMS, Large spacious clean if not slightly dated but as you only really sleep in them does it really matter? Fridge is stocked with water and fizzy drinks. Bathroom large with a whirlpool bath and shower, shampoo, body wash and conditioner all there and plenty of fresh clean towels. FOOD You cannot really fault it for select of various dishes, there's a sushi/sashimi every night if that's your want even crab claws one night (which I've never been offered before in any all inclusive) The food is fresh and frequently changed if it's getting low. Soup, Mexican, Pizza (freshly made) lots of salady stuff, this evening even fresh steak, tuna and white fish all cooked in front of you! STAFF They are amazing, friendly and can't do enough for you, everyone says hola or morning and they work really hard. A special mention for Ricardo the restaurant manager who went out of his way to help prepare some food to take back to our room when she wasn't feeling well 👏👏👏 GROUNDS/POOLS There's a huge main pool which is warm and clean, right next to it there's a children's waterpark which is a hit with the young Uns A HUGE PLUS! There is no reserving of sunbeds and there plenty of them, lots of shaded areas for when you need to shade. There's also a small jacuzzi area. OVERALL. As I said in the beginning I wasn't expecting too much but those thoughts were blown out of the water within the first couple of hours. DOWNSIDES. The souvenir shops are horrendously expensive so it's best to avoid them. There's a 7-11 a couple of Kms down the road, it's a pretty hairy experience getting there though if you walk you have to cross 2 carriageways . All in all a very nice place to stay
My husband and I have just returned from a 2 week break at Bahia Principe Explore Coba. We visited this hotel 2 years ago and could not wait to return hoping for the same memorable experience and we were not disappointed! Upon our arrival we went straight to the check in desk where Angel checked us in efficiently and promptly and then we were whisked down to our room and both cases taken up to our room by the luggage assistant. Our room was on the third floor and as there is no lifts, this is something to consider for individuals with reduced mobility but this was told to us at check in and as this is not an issue for either of us we had a super room in block 19a overlooking the pool. It is advised that block 19 is very central but the lower down the number blocks the further away from the restaurant and lobby it is although there are plenty of little trucks to hop onto for a lift to wherever you wish to go. Our room was immaculately clean with good air con and even cooler over the bed fan so we never felt uncomfortable. There is a safe, iron & board and mini bar which was restocked daily and on one occasion this was not refilled a simple phone call sorted this and we were restocked in a matter of minutes. The pool is cleaned every morning and kept tidy during the day, there are plenty of sunbeds but it is advisable to grab a bed in the shade as it gets very hot during the day. It has been mentioned on some reviews that the place has cockroaches and mosquitoes, call us lucky perhaps but we never saw a single one during our stay. The entertainment staff need a special mention as they work tirelessly from morning to evening with activities and fun games for all ages with relentless energy. The buffet restaurant has slightly reduced in size since our last visit but still offers a varied selection of food with a very popular egg station for a piping hot fresh omelet for breakfast plus a wide variety of anything you should wish for. We visited the Japanese, Italian and Gormet restaurants during our stay and found the food delicious and the staff fantastic and friendly as in the buffet restaurant. Special mention to Guadalupe who looked after us on two occasions in the a la carte and Andres in the buffet restaurant who made us feel so very welcome, and lovely to see Waitress Ruth again who we remembered from our first visit to Coba. I have read reviews where it is said that the staff are unfriendly and can honestly say that I have no idea how anyone could feel this way as each and every person we met had a smile and could not do enough for us, your staff are a credit to your Hotel. As we are both early risers we enjoyed the evening entertainment in the main seating area and did not visit any of the shows as after a long hot day and nice meal we were ready to return to our comfy King size bed for a good rest. We took an excursion to Chichen Itza and swam in a cenote which I will review separately, it was a fabulous full day trip with stops at a local restaurant and town, and our guide Christian was very knowledgeable and friendly. Just be aware that we clocked up 17,000 steps that day so maybe not suitable for all. Our check out was prompt and smooth and our transfer to the airport was on time and well organized. Thank you Bahia Principe Explore Coba for another unforgettable holiday and we can not wait to return to Mexico again soon.
been to coba many times when when arriving was told that most of the resort is now tequila hotel which you are not permitted to use without paying a fee . also restaurant was not half the size with hardly anything decent to offer. the room it self was clean but stunk of musk and 1 bottle water and 2 cans in mini bar !! will never 100 be coming back here and will be telling my friends and family who come here to look elsewhere
It was our first time visiting Bahia Grand Coba and I must say it turned out to be a great experience. The property is grand and vast, well maintained. Customer service was superb and the cleaning staff, waiters and check in desk were on point. Our room was also comfortable and in good condition. Food quality was great and we did not find the buffet repeatable at all. The desert section was the best I have experienced in the Mexico all inclusive so far. Pools are well kept and entertainment , kids club staff really try to give your the best experience during your stay. We also enjoyed the beach, staff were working hard to remove sea weed and plenty of fishes to be near the rocks. The bars service was great. The kids water park really adds to the experience if you have small kids. overall a great experience, we will be back soon.
Hotel facilities are amazing great for kids. Highly recommend the Kids club. Hotel food wasn’t the best not much variety. I’d advise factoring in paying for the extra band to access all hotels.
The hotel complex and grounds are very well kept and attractive. The pool areas are lovely but the main pool was spoiled for me because music was constantly playing. Thank goodness for the tranquil jacuzzi pools area where you can get peace and quiet. There's entertainment at night in the main terrace area but again the volume is turned up to maximum so forget talking! The staff are very friendly and helpful and the rooms are fantastic. We had a junior suite. The food is very good but it's difficult to find availability in the specialist restaurants. We did get some bookings and the restaurants were half empty when they showed on the booking system as full. Weekends can be crowded with locals so there were long queues for drinks at peak times. The range and quality of drinks were good. It's nice to see the wildlife wandering round the grounds.
We had a two week holiday booked at the Coba, we were informed 12 months before arriving that the resort was being split between an adult only and main resort, we should have asked to be moved to the Tequila resort then as its refurbished and much quieter! Hindsight is a wonderful thing. When we arrived we were allocated a room in block 18b this isn’t far from the highway and you can hear road noise, the junior suite is the standard room ! And are showing their age now but it was clean and serviced daily to a good standard. The buffet restaurant has a good selection however it is very large and can become loud at peak times. The a la carte restaurants are very good but need booking in advance via the app. The pool is very warm due to being shallow and is showing signs of disrepair. At weekends there was very large influxes of local party goers and families on short breaks; they caused a lot of disruption with large speakers and there were also drunken altercations for which the security staff were very poor when dealing with this. Maybe allowing people to fill two pint thermal mugs with alcohol isn’t the best idea, they managed to imbibe all the pool bar alcohol ! If you are a couple consider the Tequila or Tulum resorts as they are worth the extra, the Coba is as described budget and family friendly!
I been there so many times, but this time it was very disappointing Food and drinks quality not good Entertainment very basic.
I have been coming to Bahia Principe Grand Coba almost every year since 2017 (except during COVID), and unfortunately my experience has continued to decline year after year. I am also a Privilege Club member, and based on my personal experience, I highly discourage anyone from purchasing this membership. During the sales process, they make many promises and treat you exceptionally well to convince you to buy. However, once you become a member, you are mostly left on your own. I paid close to $13,000 for this membership and honestly feel there has been very little value in return. What made this experience even more disappointing was the extremely poor customer service from the Privilege Club representatives when calling their 800 number. Instead of helping loyal members, some representatives were rude, dismissive, unwilling to listen, and lacked professionalism. When I requested to speak with a manager regarding my concerns, I was refused. That is not how long-term loyal customers should be treated. The resort itself has also seen noticeable declines over the years: Food quality has significantly decreased compared to previous visits. Some rooms are outdated and in need of renovation. Large portions of the beach are inaccessible because of seaweed, and the areas that are accessible are very rocky. That said, I want to be fair and recognize the incredible local staff in Cancun. The employees working directly at the resort are truly amazing. They are friendly, hardworking, always smiling, and consistently go above and beyond to provide the best service possible. The staff is honestly one of the few reasons many guests continue returning. Unfortunately, my latest experience was the final straw. While trying to book what would have been my 8th family vacation to Bahia Coba, I had an extremely frustrating interaction with a representative named Raynnell from the payment department. The way the situation was handled left me deeply disappointed and frustrated as a loyal customer. After nearly eight years of loyalty and bringing my family of four to this resort repeatedly, I ultimately decided to cancel my vacation and book with another resort instead. I am sharing this review because future travelers deserve transparency before making an expensive commitment like the Privilege membership.
OK. An honest review ! This hotel has just been renovated and is lovely ! The staff are courteous and work very hard indeed ! The grounds are first class , room is very nice and we were lucky to have a pool view which was great ! Ala Carts all lovely and we enjoyed them all however book them before you travel on the app or face eating at 9pm if at all !! Shuttles to the Coba beach area are easy to just grab one at the lobby and always a sunbed at the beach and a beach bar to boot ! The Coba section of the beach is very nice though we didn’t spend much time there as it’s not the best beach with the seaweed issue but we expected that and hey ho it’s not the Maldives! Still nicer than Blackpool lol and it’s still the Caribbean sea after all ! HOWEVER there is a major problem here … understaffed , weekends are terrible, the local folk arrive in big numbers and the staff can’t cope due to lack of resources, half the buffet/ dinner restaurant is closed off meaning queues of unhappy people trying to get in waiting in blistering heat outside … shambles , and the bars are the same , big queues all day . I understand Hyatt have taken over and they must have reduced the staff to save money which is poor management! People are getting irritated and tempers getting raised . Staff are running round like lunatics and the animation team singing and dancing when really they could help a bit , i felt like mucking in ! So would i come again, sorry no , not until the management get a grip and do their job !
Nao substituiram o gel duche.
1st time in Mexico. We love Cuba and tend to travel there and been to DR as well. I was really impressed by how nice and hospitable the staff were. This property is kept very clean. Rooms were clean. Always lots to eat at buffet with lots of variety. Drinks were good, cold and plentiful. Beach was ok but we only spent an afternoon there. We travelled as a family of 4 with young kids. It really exceeded my expectations. We found this to be a very good value for the price. Would go back.
This was our 14th visit at Coba and although the loyalty program ended we decided to give it another try and we’re not disappointed. The staff are amazing and make the experience wonderful. The rooms were clean and the food excellent. For à la cartes we went to Portofino and it was delicious, Gourmet as great as last time. First time at the new Smoked restaurant and it was definately worth the visit. The entertainment team at the pool is as fantastic as ever. Special shout out to Antonio and Ronaldo. These two make you feel special, and wouldn’t have been the same without them. Alfredo at the night buffet is the best, he has actually been serving us all 14 years. If you go ask for his section; you won’t be disappointed . We will for sure return next year. We make sure we provided this feedback to Alejandro, a manager there who cares about what we had to say.
Mooie zwembaden en leuke kidsclub met leuke vriendelijke dames!
We verbleven 4 nachten.
Pros: Entertainment Team: They were the only bright spot. Energetic and easy to join in for pool activities. Tip: The sushi-making class only holds 6 people, so get there very early. The Pool: Physically beautiful, and we didn't have trouble finding chairs. Cons (The Reality): SAFETY ALERT: I was bitten by a raccoon at the snack bar. Upon returning home to Canada, I have had to undergo a grueling series of 18 shots for Rabies and Tetanus. The wildlife at the snack bars is aggressive and the resort is not doing enough to manage the safety risk to guests. The "Shrinking" Resort: Since we booked, half of Coba has been remodeled and turned into "Tequila" (Adults-Only). As Coba guests, we lost access to half the property, and all previous benefits to the Tulum sister resort (like the buffet and extra pool) have been stripped away. You are paying for a full resort and getting half of one. Room Logistics: We were a family of 5, yet were given two rooms with King beds. It was an exhausting battle to get them to change this. Additionally, Building 5 is a 15-minute walk to the lobby—expect to spend your vacation waiting for shuttles or trekking in the heat. "All-Inclusive" Hidden Fees: Not truly all-inclusive. The lobby pool tables and arcades cost $4 USD per game. Service & Bar Stalls: The pools close at 6:00 PM. During the day, there was often only one bartender at the bars, leading to massive lineups. Tip: Bring your own Bubba keg or you'll be ordering 3 drinks at a time just to avoid the 20-minute wait. The Dining "Bribe": The buffet is poor and the snack bar is even worse. To get an A la Carte, you must book 10 days in advance or "bribe" the staff by agreeing to buy a bottle of wine. Summary: This was a family trip that turned into a medical nightmare. Between the aggressive wildlife, the loss of resort amenities, and the constant "pay-to-play" feel, I would strongly advise families to look elsewhere. The Bahia Principe Grand Coba is no longer the value it once was.
This was our 21st visit and due to the merger with Hyatt all loyalty perks we had previously were not honored, despite booking before Sept 1, 2025. This was the Bahia deadline to receive Black level perks. This change was very disappointing we were only entitled to 3 a la cartes for a nine night stay, this only magnified the changes in food quality at the buffets, the refresh of trays was slow, food was very repetitive. For example in the morning no pinapple, even canteloupe hard to find, Bacon handed out two strips at a time. Even the 3 a la cartes we booked were not the way it used to be, the staff seemed rushed and overworked, this was especially true at Mikado, the Japanese table show. The biggest let down was the food on this trip, and the great food is the reason we visited Bahia Coba, Tulum and Akumal 21 times. It saddens me that these changes have affected such a great resort, one that we considered our second home. The rooms were great as usual, pools great, lounge bar disappointing, out of Baileys on 2 occasions, no top brand alcohol or sipping tequila or 43 alcohol, these were never out on previous visits. The only place to get blended drinks is the pool or lounge bar, this is a big change and not well received. The one improvement was the Tram drivers they were excellent, efficient great communication and never left us waiting long, many going out of their way to be helpful and take us where we needed to go, this was different from our visit in November where this was not the case . So huge shout out to that team...great work! We also come to this resort for the amazing staff.....many are very worried that Hyatt will do massive layoffs and they will lose their jobs. HARD TO SEE STAFF SO CONCERNED. This trip for us was underwhelming.....we have a booking for a Nov 2026 trip, but will likely be looking to cancel and book at another resort, mayve time to try something new. Of Note prices have gone way up and staffing much lower and food and drink quality lower, plus no loyalty equals look for new second home.... we wish Bahia well and hope these changes don't cause too many others to look elsewhere for their new vacation resort.
Our stay at Bahia Principe Grand Coba was absolutely unforgettable. The staff were warm, friendly, and always went above and beyond to make us feel cared for. Our room was spacious, spotless, and very well maintained. Concierge service was excellent, the bellhops worked tirelessly, and the trolley system made getting around the beautiful resort easy and convenient. The white sand beaches and grounds were immaculate. The food was always fresh and delicious, with fun themed dinners each night. The à la cartes felt elegant and top tier with flavorful meals every time. Drinks were a little light but always flowing. This resort gave us memories we will cherish forever. Sending love from Canada.
Overall the resort is good and what was as expected for me and my wife. Food- overall 3.5/5 Buffet was ok most nights and there was always something to eat and service was good. À la cartes, were ok with the Le Gourmet being the best and the other two not great. Room-overall 3/5 As expected for a Bahía property.. if you have been to a Bahía property that hasn’t been renovated recently it’s the same in every country. Bed was firm and service was good. Walls though are thin and if your neighbours suck then you’re in for a treat trying to sleep! Pool-overall 4/5 Lots of people and fun atmosphere. Chairs were readily available in shade till 10 am which was nice and different from other places were you need to get up early to save chairs. Pool bar was good and service was good. We also checked the out the Tulum and Akumail pools on different days and while those are more luxurious, drinks were the same but vide was less fun. I preferred Coba pool for the vibe more. Resort was well kept-no complaints Check in/check out 0/5 OMG we arrived around 12:30pm. There was a line of about 7 people ahead of us and 3 worker at the counter… took us 90 mins to check in!! When it was our turn it took over 15 mins… not sure if their computers are really slow or what but wow just terrible. And we did the pre check in. The whole time they are just working on the computer not saying anything and you’re left wondering why it’s taking so long for two people to check in and get their bracelets. This needs improvement big time as first impression really was terrible Day passes to other resorts-worth it to pay for a few days at the other resorts. It’s 20usd per day per person and you have to pay for all remaining days so best to wait till your last 2-3 days. Food at the tulum and akumal was not much different than the buffet at the coba but still nice for a change of scenery. You do not get access yo their à la cartes
Etc. Etc.
Great week! Huge resort! Great service, good food, shout out to the Brazilian restaurant crew @ La gran Tortuga, what an amazing experience,
Beautiful resort great food and fascilities . Only complaint would be being u able to use the pool area adults only which is not clear .
el bufett
el servicio del personal en atención a problemas con el televisor , falta de jabón de barra en los baños , toallas en los baños , muy deficientes en soluciona esos detalles importantes.
Great entertainment by the pool. Liked how they would not let people reserve pool chairs. Rooms were comfy. Buffet staff were great.
Night entertainment shows for families were to late at night . Not able to use facilities at other resorts had to pay for an upgrade wrist band. So if you go to the beach you have to go back to the resort to eat. Would have been nice if the coba had a store to pick up snacks( besides chips) that you could take to the beach. Also we were on the 3rd floor of building 14 … traffic noise like crazy.
-Grand Coba was consistently short-staffed at reception and guest services resulting in long waits -dinner reservations were impossible to get and the Kulkukan buffet was downright terrible quality so we ate at Tulum and Akumal buffets which were better, but not excellent -pool/beach ran out of towels by 10am every day, despite being given full access to all sites (Tulum, Akumal, etc) -Coba guests con only get towels from Coba (the towels are identical at all locations) -all pools closed at 6pm -Coba's drinks were very weak, slightly better at other sites
I have been coming to Bahia Principe for the past 15 years, and this was approximately my 12th stay at the Coba resort. Previously we stayed at the Tulum before we had a child. What has always kept us coming back is the incredible staff, the quality of the food, and the overall experience including the entertainment at night for both adults and kids. However, compared to previous years, we noticed a significant decline in some areas. I’ve never been one to focus too heavily on food in reviews, as I often found those comments to be subjective. That said, the food at this resort has always stood out in the past. The buffet used to feature a different theme each night, with a wide variety of options including Indian, Western, Japanese, seafood, Mexican, and more. It was one of the highlights of our stay. This year, unfortunately, the experience was quite different. While the food was still decent, it felt more limited and heavily centered around Mexican options. The buffet selection was noticeably smaller, and there were multiple occasions where food items ran out and were not replenished in a timely manner. It appeared the resort may have been short-staffed, and the staff who were present were working extremely hard to keep up with demand. Although still enjoyable overall, the food felt subpar compared to what we’ve experienced in the past. The meat selection was also more limited—there were no longer any meat carving stations, and most of the options were pork-based. While we didn’t mind this, we did miss the variety that used to be offered. Similarly, seafood options seemed to be entirely absent this time around, which was disappointing as it had always been something we looked forward to. For example, the sushi selection was quite limited, only offered occasionally, often consisting of rolls filled primarily with cream cheese, fruit, or vegetables, with no seafood options available. The salad bar was also more restricted than usual, offering minimal variety—only ranch dressing was available. The snack bar, both during the day and after hours, was also quite limited. While they still offered the basics like hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, fruit, and dessert, there used to be a much wider variety of options available. Food running out was also a recurring issue. Again, the resort was busy, and it seemed to be more of an understaffing issue than anything else. This is not a reflection of the staff themselves, who continue to work incredibly hard and do their best to keep the resort running smoothly. Another frustration was the difficulty in getting towels for the pool. I tried for three days in a row and had no luck, which was surprising and inconvenient. We also noticed a reduction in entertainment. In previous years, shows were offered more frequently throughout the week, whereas now they were only available about three days. It was still enjoyable, but noticeably different from what we’ve come to expect. Overall, we still had a fantastic time, as we always do. The staff continue to be wonderful, and we truly enjoy this resort. However, the changes following the Hyatt transition were very noticeable, and the features that once made this resort stand out seem to be gradually diminishing. We hope to see improvements in the future and a return to the level of experience that kept us coming back for so many years. While we hope to continue coming back to Coba, we understand that the resort will be shutting down soon for renovations. Given the cost of this trip during spring break, we may also explore other options in the future. Nonetheless, Coba will always remain one of our favourite family vacation spots, even if we decide to try something new going forward. Shout out to Carlos, Darwin, Thomas, and all the staff that keep this resort running. Your dedication to the people visiting does not go unnoticed. Also if you are a tattoo person check out Ramon at the Jaguar Tattoo studio at the La Hacienda - Absolutely incredible work! .
I want to start by saying that this review has nothing to do with the staff, every single person we encountered was amazing, kind, and attentive. A special thank you to the team at the Katok restaurant in the Akumal resort, especially Oliva, Obdulia, Francisca, the chef who came out to greet us, and the captain waiter. Their service truly stood out and made us feel very welcome. Unfortunately, my experience was deeply affected by the food. During my stay, I got food poisoning twice, and the last time was extremely severe. I experienced fever, vomiting, chills, and diarrhea. I am still recovering from it. It was honestly very difficult to travel back home in that condition. I had a fever while flying and could not keep any food down due to how upset my stomach was. This was very disappointing, especially because everything else, particularly the staff, was so wonderful. I hope the resort takes this feedback seriously and reviews their food safety standards so that future guests do not go through the same experience.
The hotel was good and clean, bad beach
The beach was too far and small
All food was excellent and easy to get to all food locations.
Not a hotel issue. The location is very remote so you must use a taxi to Tulum or any other location. Cost of a taxi is high.
I did not like the breakfast, no enough variety for all ethnic groups.
The phones in the room didn’t work, the TV channels were all in Spanish had to keep converting to English. The beds were too hard. Staff didn’t understand translation made it very difficult in getting the correct items.
Ok, hopefully this review will help you!! I will start with saying that I have been to approximately 35 resorts in Dominican Republic, Cuba, Jamaica and Mexico so I have a lot of experience with all inclusive resorts. This is my second time at this resort. I was there 10 years ago for my friend’s wedding. Needless to say that the rooms are a bit dated because they haven’t been renovated since. We had no major issues with ours other than a leaking shower. My parents’s room had more. The ceiling fan didn’t work, the electric outlet beside the bed didn’t work and maintenance had to come everyday to fix the toilet. Rooms are however very spacious and the mattress was comfortable. The grounds are gorgeous and there are plenty of chairs at the pool. The beach is a bit far (6-7 minutes in a shuttle that comes by every 10 min). We knew the beach was far which wasn’t the issue. The issue is that for the past six months, they have separated the access to the beach. The portion of the hotel that is considered beachfront is the Akumal. Well they have a separate portion of the beach which we can’t have access to since we are at the Coba. The side we can use is so narrow that you can’t even walk around your chair. Their side of the beach is huge, with plenty of chairs. Also, being at Coba, we don’t even have access to any buffet on that side so very inconvenient if you want to spent the whole day at the beach without having to go back to the Coba to eat. You really feel like a second class and it’s very unfortunate. The food was good with a lot of variety each day. I would recommend downloading the Bahia Príncipe app and make reservations to the à la carte restaurant because to ensure you have a spot. We did the Mikado and the Portofino which were both a nice change from the buffet. The highlight for my kids (10 and 12 years old) was the Teens Club where they made some friends. The shows at night were good and very entertaining. Go see Rosa at the buffet where you will get the best treatment. Best waitress ever and she is the sweetest. We had every meal in her section and got the special treatment each time :) - we miss you Rosa! We booked with Air Canada and were very disappointed with the service we got from the two representatives at the hotel. We booked an excursion with them (cenote and zipline) and we dealt the price to 621$ for 7 people. When at the Mayas Aventuras, we started the excursion with the cenote to be told while waiting for the zipline that we had to pay an additional 10 USD per person for transportation. We told him we booked a private tour with our Air Canada representatives and there was never any mention of paying extra for transportation as it was already a private tour. We were told we had to pay otherwise we couldn’t continue the excursion. When we got back to the hotel, we expressed our dissatisfaction with Alex and Osmara. Alex advised it was unpaid taxes (we were told transportation) and that he would have to speak to his manager and to come see him first thing in the morning the next day (December 27). On December 27, we showed up at 9h30 when Osmara told us it was Alex’s day off. Very unprofessional to tell us to come back to see him on his day off. Osmara was aware of the situation because she was there when we booked and said she couldn’t do anything about it, that we had to deal directly with Mayas Aventuras. We explained that the excursion was booked with Air Canada and we shouldn’t be penalized if they made us book an excursion at the wrong price. I feel this matter should have been handled differently and Air Canada should have been responsible for the cost difference. We are told to book with Air Canada for the service, insurance, etc but the service we got was far worse than booking directly with a local company. Lastly, I have to say the people at the front desk are very unprofessional. We were told we had to pay 20USD per person if we wanted to spend the day at the beach and have access to the facilities on their side of the resort. So we decided to treat ourselves and advised them we wanted to have this deal for one day only before my brother would leave (he left 2 days prior to me). We were told it was fine but that we had to return our special bracelet before 23h00 that same day not to be charged extra days (there was 3 days left to our trip), which we did at around 9h45 after the show. The day I was checking out, I was told I had to pay 300USD because they had no proof we had returned our bracelets. I was so pissed. They asked me what was the name of the guy that cut our bracelets because no note was made that we did return them. How is it our responsability to remember the name of the guy and ask for a proof the bracelets were returned. I told them to look at their cameras and they would see we did in fact return the 7 bracelets. We had to fight with them to the point I started crying because I couldn’t believe how bad we were treated and for them to think we were liars. My kids were so upset. If they offer “a day at the other resort” in the middle of your stay, they should be better organized to know when you return your ticket instead of the putting the responsability on you and make you feel like a criminal. This ended the trip on a really bad note and for that reason I will never book at this hotel anymore and will ensure I advise everyone I know not to go there.
We spent 10 days at Akumal and spent several hours at grand tequila. We were very impressed with the amazing service at the lobby bar at Tequila. Jorge and Enrique are absolute professionals and made us feel very welcome no matter how busy they were. We definitely recommend this resort and if you are lucky enough to find them working, you will not be disappointed in the service!
Shoutout Antonio! 🎉 This guy doesn’t just animate—he creates the party. Pool games, dance-offs, karaoke… you name it, he’s making everyone have the time of their lives. Honestly, he deserves a raise just for surviving us! 💸🕺. What a man he is!
This is specifically for the "teen club" on the Coba side. We are currently staying at Akumal side (11 nights) but they have no teen club, only a kids club. We travel by trolley everyday because our son really enjoys the teen club at Coba. Gigey is the primary reason he enjoys his time there. She really knows how to keep the older kids busy and having fun. My son looks forward to their afternoon soccer games. Gigey is great!!
We visited in early December to avoid the holidays rush and prices. Weather was perfect with mostly sunny days and almost no rain. Our check-in process was smooth and the staff member at the reception was friendly. We requested an extra bed and some extra pillows, and he prompty submitted that request, which was fulfilled within 10 minutes of our arrival at the room. Resort & Room Resort has 3 other sister resorts in the same campus and guests can visit all of them except the buffet restaurants. They have shuttles running between these resorts and there are adequate spaces on them most of the time. Room was dated but tidy and had AC running without any issues. It was cleaned on a daily basis and was kept in a great condition by very polite and amazing cleaning staff. There is a child activity centre for teenagers, infants and toddlers that had activities throughout the day for families with kids. There is an amphitheatre and gym beside the buffet restaurant but we never visited them. The big pool is amazing and kept in a clean condition by hardworking staff. There is also a play area for kids which is supervised by lifeguards at most times. Resort has different pool activities throughout the day to keep people entertained. The small bar within the pool is nice. We took a shuttle to go to the private beach area owned by the resort and it was beautiful and clean. The market within the resort vicnity is made for tourists so beware of the inflated prices. Food & Entertainment Food was quite good. Resort has a giant buffet restaurant which can get very busy during breakfast and dinner times but was never a time when we had to wait. I specifically liked the fact that they have 24-hour food availability by having at least one restaurant open at any given time. We also went to the poolside restaurant which had similar but limited options compared to the buffet restaurant. You may want to check their schedules beforehand. We are vegetarians and the resort had limited but decent options. All restaurant area employees were nice, cheerful and accomodating. Resort has several a la carte restaurants but you have better odds at winning a lottery than finding a reserveration at one of these! Disappointments / Things to Improve 1. We booked the family package when booking online and were promised a room close to the pool and a welcome gift at check-in. We were also told that the room would have a refrigerator with kid-friendly items such as juice and chocolate milk. We were given none of those. 2. It is impossible to get a reservation at an A la carte restaurant. When I checked the app after checking in to the resort, ALL restaurants were booked for the next 7 days while some had only 1 spot available. We walked pass the italian restaurant every day in the evening and it was at no more than 70% of the capacity at any time. We managed to book a reservation at the Indian restaurant which was cancelled by someone at the last minute. 3. Resort has a no pool chair-hogging policy by placing a towel but I saw several people still doing it with no enforcement. Some of these chairs were never occupied by those people during the day. 4. Some staff members at the bar in the main lobby could improve their customer service skills. I found their behavior blunt on multiple occassions. Overall, it was a nice vacation and I would definitely consider going back.
The kid's club was wonderful for the kids they did not want to leave it from morning to evening. Spécial thank to yuli, Ami, Cynthia, mariana and azul. And the whole team of the kid's club.
I am currently staying at the Bahia Principe Grand Coba (December 27-Janury 2nd) and had an absolutely terrible experience upon arrival from Cancun airport to the resort. We landed at the airport in the late evening after a full day of travel with our four-year-old and eight-year-old. Upon leaving the baggage claim we searched for the Amstar representative--that we booked through Bahia Principe--and they were no where to be found. In the end, we waited for more than two hours with two exhausted children, a trolley full of luggage, in the heat only to be told we would need to PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR OUR OWN TAXI TO THE RESORT. At this point in the evening, THERE WERE NO TAXIS. When we finally secured one, at midnight, we PAID $450 CAD for a one-way ride to Bahia Principe Grand Coba. We were assured by the Amstar rep that we would be reimbursed when we arrived at the hotel. THAT WAS NOT THE CASE. THE GRAND COBA STAFF REFUSED TO REIMBURSE US. I spent the better part of my first day at the resort on the phone with Bahia Principe customer service. They told me they would look into it, only to CALL ME THE NEXT DAY AND TELL ME IN HALF-BROKEN ENGLISH THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AND WOULD NOT BE REIMBURSING ME FOR THE TAXI. DO NOT BOOK SHUTTLE SERVICE WITH AMSTAR OR BAHIA PRINCIPE UNLESS YOU ARE PREPARED TO BE LEFT HIGH AND DRY.
We travel often and this is the 3rd time this year we have travelled to Mexico, twice due to unfortunate hurricane in Jamaica. This resort is the worst we have ever stayed! Shuttle dropped us at our room with our luggage, 2- 70 yr olds to carry up 3 flights of stairs, after being 3 hrs late, arriving at 11:30pm. No room service to order food but you can go to the snack bar open until 7 am. Scan this QR code for the map of grounds to find it. We requested a room change (ground floor) due to the 3 flights of stairs, my husband has 2 knee replacements, can’t do it until 3 days later - Monday. Room key was not programmed properly, so we had to go back to the lobby. We called to have the shuttle come back and they said we can’t do that, have to go out and wait for one. They stop running at 12:30. Had to change rooms so a shuttle did come back and wait to move them - now going on 12:30, travelling with a 6 yr old up since 7:00 am, is getting testy! Very far walk to restaurants, lobby, theatre, so you need to take a shuttle but they are few and far between, every 15ish minutes they do a drive thru the complex. Unbeknownst to us, we are in “Peasant Ville”, not allowed to go to other resorts on the property, can’t even walk thru them to get to the beach b/c the path goes thru an “adult only” section. Even an adult wasn’t allowed b/c of the colour of his wristband. Other family members were in an adult only section but were allowed to be with us all day, which they wanted to do b/c our resort pools were bigger. Plenty of pool chairs which is a good thing b/c the other 3 resorts were spending their day at our pools. The a la carte restaurants need reservations, booking up to 10 days prior to arrival. Need to check-in first, then book reservations. Only 3 a la carte allowed. Website is not “user friendly”, very difficult to navigate. We got reservations at same time slot but not together b/c different rooms, so we went to the Reservation Desk to see if they could put us together. Reply was “no”. Could we change one of ours and hook up with other 3 - “no - only one seat available”. Yet when we were at dinner, 2 of us, a single lady at a table for 4, a couple at a table for 4 and they moved 2 tables together for a table of 5. Plenty of tables open during our hour there. Makes no sense! Bars only have one bartender and line-ups are really long. On a whole most staff do not want to be on the job, nor do they appreciate friendliness or tips. Many rules around the pool for some, but the swim-up bar pool allowed kids in it, while throwing balls, etc and splashing people at the bar.
It was a fantastic experience for our whole family! Everything was incredibly easy – from the activities to the food to the accommodations – making this the perfect destination for families looking for a stress-free getaway. The entertainment group was incredible! They truly made our vacation special, especially for the kids. My children had a blast at the Teens/Kids Club, where they were kept entertained and engaged with fun activities. Gigi was absolutely fantastic with both of my kids – she made them feel right at home and they couldn’t wait to see her every day. A big shoutout to Antonio too – he went above and beyond to ensure all activities were fun and inclusive for everyone, no matter their age or skill level. Buffet, a la cart restaurants and service was also great with enough variety. Room and entire resort is clean. Overall, Bahia Principe Grand Coba was the perfect place for our family vacation.
Bah-Bye Principe Coba We chose Bahia Principe Coba hoping for a relaxing vacation, we have stayed with then over 5 times before but the experience was largely frustrating and disorganized. The resort often felt designed around waiting rather than guest comfort. Fire alarms beeped constantly in lobby and trolley areas, creating an unpleasant atmosphere. Trolley service was unsafe at times, with drivers not waiting for guests to fully exit. The Coba buffet was poorly designed, with long lines and limited variety. Items were frequently mislabeled, the omelet station was slow, and food quality was inconsistent. We paid extra for wristbands to access other areas of the resort and found Akumal significantly better, with a more spacious buffet layout, multiple bacon stations, and quality meats openly available without attendants. Dining service across the resort was slow and disorganized, often lacking cutlery, glasses, and timely coffee service. Drinks were below average, even for an all-inclusive. Rooms were very dated with stains, missing tiles, uncomfortable beds (two beds pushed together as a “king”), rough linens, and doors that frequently malfunctioned—making it difficult to access our room and unreliable to keep items cold in the fridge. Maintenance and safety were major concerns. Bathroom doors did not lock properly across multiple resorts. We witnessed several guest injuries, including falls and fainting, with poor safety features such as missing railings and no ice available for injuries. During rainy weather, instead of providing a calm lounge atmosphere, extremely loud activities and music were played indoors, making it uncomfortable to relax—though at least it temporarily drowned out the fire alarm beeping. Overall: This resort did not meet expectations for comfort, safety, or relaxation. Akumal stood out as a better option, but Coba itself fell far short of the quality expected from Bahia Principe. Will not be returning.
We are here as I write this review until January 6th. We were here before and we knew it was average at best and now rating this place as average would be grossly over rating the resort . They have cut the resort down by a 1/3 as they split it up and turned part of the resort into the Tequila resort which we used to be able to use and now can’t . We had to change rooms after our first night as it was disgusting. Mold in the bathroom , burned plugs , TV hanging crooked , holes and stains in the furniture and sheets. Having said that Alondra was exceptional trying to correct the problems. Many problems to mention with regards to cleanliness and food quality. I will say the service is decent as they are trying their best to deal with a below average resort . We have been to many places in Mexico and for what you pay go elsewhere and perhaps pay more as Hyatt / Bahia Príncipe is not doing anything to make the resort better. We were at another Hyatt resort in Huatulco four weeks ago and it was also horrible with regards to quality. We have travel to Mexico two to three times a year and the Hyatt resorts appear to no longer focus on quality or cleanliness. I can not stress enough how below average the rooms, food etc are well below average compared to other resorts. Please note for the past 15 years we got to Mexico 2-3 times a year and there are way better options .
The theme of this resort is not enough staff, and too many rules. We have been to Mexico 15+ times, and this is by far the worst resort we have stayed in, and we are only on day 2! I’m writing this from our room because the shows are all too late for my 6 year old, but he’s too young for the kids club (10-13 yrs old at night) - which means we are stuck in our room with nothing for him to do. Villas - no elevators in the villas, so you have to carry suitcases up 3 flights of stairs. No one offered to take my 70 year old parents’ luggage to their room, just dropped them and their luggage at the bottom of the stairs and basically said “good luck.” Day time - the lines are so long for drinks - only one bartender ever working. If you want breakfast, you are out of luck as there is never enough food. Empty trays are left on the buffet and not topped up often. Only one person making eggs, so the line is typically 10-15 people long (35 min wait). Lunch - there is often not enough food, and you are left with mostly scraps unless you are the lucky one to be at the front when the pizza comes out of the oven. For a resort this size, there needs to be major improvement in the quantity of food - the quality is not bad. Pools - The bathrooms by the pool run out of toilet paper by noon and are never refilled. The kids pool is fun, but often 3-4 slides are closed, so options are limited. If you stay by the big pool, you’re not allowed to have kids jump in, or splash too much or you get a whistle blown at you. If your towels are soaked, too bad - only one change a day allowed. Beach - The shuttles run every 15ish min to the beach, and the lineups are so long, it’s like the hunger games to get a seat. Once you get to the beach you can only sit on the Coba chairs, and get drinks from the Coba bar. The lineup for this bar was easily 25 people, we waited over 30 minutes to get a drink (because again, only one bartender). The staff are not rude, but also not friendly. They don’t smile, and when asked for anything, they act like it’s an inconvenience, even when we tip them. Overall, it feels like this resort is not at all about convenience or guest experience. Even after expressing our concerns to our Air Canada representative, nothing was done. I’ve never written a review before, but after just two days here, I felt like others needed to be aware before booking this resort. This was also not a cheap option!! There are other family resorts in Mexico where we felt more valued as a customer, and had a better experience for less money.
The pool and grounds were great. The snack bar was convenient. The room was spacious and the bathroom was well appointed..good shower head and nice size. Bed nice and large. Air con and ceiling fan worked well.
The room looked a bit worn. Lamps were askew, the floor lamp had clearly been broken and was just propped up. The curtains didn't close all the way, not hung right. Tile grout was cracked in places.
I can't get coffee in a mug after supper at lobby. And they wouldn't refill machines to have in plastic . This is every night. My granddaughter was invited to foam party and see Santa. Security was very aggressive said we couldn't be there. Very sad. TV keeps turning off every 5 minutes. Staff is good. Jonathan entertainment tries to make everything good even the coffee maker that bartender won't do
We had a wonderful week of ease, kindness and fun. We enjoyed all the hardworking entertainment crew. Shout outs to Antonio always making our youngest son feel included. As well as Alejandro, Hannah, Haziel, Eder and Alex and Renoldo for amazing aquafit classes. Also thank you to kids club for providing a 5 star fun and safe experience. Shoutout to Yuli and team. And GiGi for making teens club great for our oldest.
DO NOT GO HERE!! Trip was crazy stupid. Bed sheets dont come to bottom of bed. Gross. Roomservice -NONE. Spilled something on bed, Had to break into laundry to get our own sheets at 10 pm. Room cleaning spotty. MOLD everywhere. Ruined our luggage and everything in the room. Clothes, shoes, you name it. Check in a joke, was told they were busy so couldnt get us a second room key. Big bribery scheme. If you paid $75 US for wine you could get your a la carte restaurants. These were all fully booked, but going to them 1/4 - 1/3 full. $150US to get your pickup time from NEXUS tours. The guest service desk must of cringed to see us so much at the front desk. People were screaming at them at multiple times of the day when you passed by their desk.
Very clean resort. Food was good. Amazing beach for swimming and snorkeling, it was so calm. Daycare was so fun for my kids, they loved it, lots of outdoors stuff for them to do. Cons : can’t go to the beach after 7pm, security won’t allow you. Rooms a bit dated, but still fine. Need a golf cart shuttle to go to beach ( they run every 15 minutes or it’s a 45 minute walk. Can’t use swimming pools after 6pm. Sports bar is a cash grab, to play anything u have to pay additional money and load money onto a card.

Our family had a great time staying at the Grand Coba. Like others have mentioned the room is a bit dated but overall its clean and sufficient. Bathroom was really nice. The daily buffet options do get tiring but there are so many options its easy to keep it fresh. We enjoyed the raw fish, yogurts, and salad options after exhausting all of the typical western choices. The poolside activities and games provided by the entertainment staff were really fun. Hanna, Haziel, Alejandro, Antonio, Jonathan, and Eder were really interactive, funny, and professional. The nightly shows were beyond what I expected. Really enjoyable. There are even earlier shows that our kids got involved with. We attended the Saturday evening Fiesta Mexicana which was really well done. Fun games for the kids and great musical performances. Also, a nice selection of food. Our family did the Aventuras Mayas cenote excursion with Amstar. It was amazing. Our guide Miguel was great and our family really enjoyed the experience. We ate at 5 of the a la carte restaurants. My favorite being Don Pablo. They were all great experiences but my least favorite was Portofino. Mikada teppenyaki was really fun. Tequila restaurant was really good. Make sure you book these 10 days before your trip on the Bahia Principe app.
The breakfast buffet is a mess with only 1 omlette station with line up of 25 people at a time. Everyone orders for 2 - 3 people to save time. Major issue for breakfast. No food at the beach area so disappointing an absolute intentional money grap in order to get guests to upgrade. The bar at the beach is with 3 people inside but only 1 barman serving with line ups sometimes upto 10- 15 people. U dont tip well u dont get good drink. We tried intentionally both. Flashing the tip money before ur drink helps u to get better service otherwise expect distasteful drinks. The a la carte don Pablo is a banger. So good so delicious with better service. The kids club is a major plus for people with kids and teens. We were there with a 6 and 10 yr old kids. Absolutely 💯 amazing. Girls at the kids club and teens club Azul, Jessel, Ami, Cynthia, Yuli, Mariana and many others are doing everything to keep the kids and teens happy. I 100% recommend families with kids and teens. If you wanna take a few hrs off from ur kids and teens while being confident that your kids and teens are having fun and are in good hands then this is the place. The guy who starts lobby bar in the morning is always in a bad mood. Avoid going to the lobby bar for any drinks before lunch time. The coffee section in the lobby , there are 3 ladies who I caught mocking the guests who were seemingly with veil and Muslims. Thats a major no no, to the point that I wanted to say he stop and serve me my fking coffee and let me go, but u know I am on vacation minding my own business and dont want anything to ruin my day. The urban and the circus shows are huge and very entertaining. Make sure to not miss them. The terrace shows could be better as it usually does karaoke with people not wanting to sing and if they do, then they try for the first time and for the adventure of it, very annoying as audience listening to strangers murdering the good songs. Going to the beach is not a problem there is always a train and these gulf cars going every 10to 15 mins. The alcohols are watered down expect suboptimal drinks. The beer is ugh and they dont serve modelo or Victoria beers. Rooms are spacious clean and comfy however alittle outdated and moldy smell. We were OK coz we didnt spend much time in the rooms except for showers and sleep. Tip: met a couple who booked coba for 2 weeks like 2.5 grand cheaper than akumal and tulum but they upgraded to pink bracelets like for 550$ so they could hang out anywhere in the resort. Such a great idea for people who wanna save but have the same services in the entire resort. I dont know if i wanna return to the resort. it depends on the deal and price but I definitely know based on reviews and research that u can have better options elsewhere with flexible dates. I hope coba renovates and fixes some major issues involving money grap techniques when it comes to bars and restaurants services. Thats ultimately the guests experience maker or breaker.
Funcionários 5*
what a great experience for the whole family, the entertainment team was amazing! A huge shout out to the entertainment team: Hanna, Haziel, Alejandro, Antonio, Jonathan to make our stay more enjoyable Clean place beautiful beach and vegetation
My family and I (1 adult, a teen and child) stayed at Bahia Principe Grand Coba from Nov 29th - Dec 6th. First off, I'm always concerned about weather when I book an all inclusive, the weather was perfect, hot and sunny everyday thank goodness :) Coming from cold Canada, that is mainly why we're there right!? Overall our first impression was very good, the lobby is beautiful, kind staff and a quick effortless check in process started us off on the right vibe. The staff seemed very kind and hardworking. The entertainment staff, activities during the day, pool games, shows in the evening really made a fun difference for the kids, we always had things to do and the staff made it very accommodating and fun for us. We used the gym daily which was a nice gym with all you need and then hit the buffet for breakfast. Overall we found the food options very good, lots of variety, hot, seasoned and cooked well. I particularly enjoyed the authentic Mexican part where they had some tasty Mexican options. Also lots of kid friendly options as well each meal. We did three a la carte restaurants (Japanese, Mexican, Italian) which honestly were all very good (I come from a hospitality/chef background and can be picky) I found they did a great job (Buffett included) overall food and service wise, with budget provided. You are far from the beach but we found the trolley system to be very convenient and fun to drive around the resort and see the different spots on your way to the beach. The beach bar does get backed up and could use some more staffing or service points, but hey you're in paradise and waiting 5 or 8 mins for a nice cold drink prepared well with a smile, so it isn't really that bad. The beach is nice, some rocky points but you can walk around a bit find a nice spot and good place to go in a chill in the salt water. The pool is large with plenty of loungers and you also have a party pool (we called it) swim up bar, we left that one for the adults :) I can't say enough about the entertainment staff daily they had a schedule posted and always had fun competitions and games for the kids, they were all awesome. HACK: Download the Bahia Principe app to book restaurants and see daily activity schedule. Yes the rooms are dated at Coba but if you want more updates or posh, pay a bit more and go to Tulum, Akumal or Tequila. Ours was cleaned well daily, clean bathrooms, everything worked, good water pressure and heat and we're never really in the room anyways, the goal is to be outdoors in the sun and warmth as much as possible! We did the Tulum Ruins, Cenotes and Swim with Turtles excursion which was awesome, the kids had a blast. Coba is basically set in a jungle and then the Sea, so on the grounds of the hotel you see tons of wildlife, reptiles and cool animals, very fun for the kids. Overall a great stay at Coba and well worth the budget friendly cost, it exceeded our expectations and we would return for that price for sure. Thank you to all the lovely, accommodating and hospitable staff at Coba, Mexico we appreciate it and hope to return one day to your beautiful country.
First of all we've stayed at the Bahia Principe resorts in several different locations as a Privilege Club member, This time things change not to the better, we had issues getting privilege club carts, normally not a big deal, but this time I was having knee issues. We sent messages to Alejandra@ bppclub and basically our messaged back saying go find the manager Luis Castillo which that was unsuccessful. We have several whats app messages at no response. Customer service as a club member was felt like they didn't care. We had Other issues as well basically told things change. And we also had another couple with us which was possible thinking about joining Privilege club which for good reasons they didn't. I know Coba isn't the top resort but when you offer Privilege you should receive it. We were very disappointed in this experience with the club. You can see the picture of whats app. have more as well , Just buyer, beware I,ve been a member for several years now and it was never that bad. WE did get to enjoy the tequila resort.
Excelent resort as per pools, natural enviroments, bars, and delicios foods, very kind and hard working staff. Very good ala carte resturants.
I wasn’t planning on leaving a review, but after our experience at Bahia Principe Grand Coba — and what happened after we returned home — I feel compelled to share this for other travelers, particularly families. We booked this resort specifically because it was marketed as a family-friendly option. Unfortunately, it fell far short of that promise in nearly every way. Food Safety Concerns After returning home, I became extremely ill and was hospitalized, where I was diagnosed with salmonella. Based on what I experienced during the stay, I immediately knew the likely source. One day at the pool bar, I took two or three bites of a burger and stopped because it tasted wrong. I looked at it and realized it was completely undercooked. I assumed it was an isolated mistake, but the next day I checked the buffet, hoping it had just been an off day. It was not. The burgers were again visibly undercooked, made with very low-quality meat that crumbles apart, and not properly cooked through. I checked a third time on another day, and it was the same. This is not a one-off issue — it appears to be a standard practice. That is deeply concerning from a food safety standpoint. Value for Money This resort is only marginally less expensive than many other all-inclusive resorts in the area, but the quality gap is enormous. This is not “budget” — it is simply cheap. Food quality, maintenance, rooms, and overall operations reflect aggressive cost-cutting at the expense of the guest experience. Understaffing and Service Issues The staff themselves were generally kind and doing their best, but the resort is clearly and severely understaffed. Check-in took over an hour. Restaurants were slow and disorganized. Requests often went unresolved. The service problems are systemic, not individual. Additionally, if you do not tip to unspoken expectations, service noticeably declines. Compounding this, the resort refuses to provide change smaller than 50 pesos, effectively forcing guests to over-tip or be ignored. Rooms and Safety Concerns Our room was outdated and poorly maintained. In addition to multiple maintenance issues, the exterior sliding door was off its hinge and did not lock properly, which was concerning at night, especially while traveling with children. Other issues included fixtures barely attached, poor air conditioning, and repeated maintenance requests that were never fully resolved. Children’s Health and the Splash Park All three of our children contracted impetigo during our stay. Based on timing and exposure, we strongly believe it came from the splash park. The splash park itself is frequently closed, many slides are shut down, and others barely function. The area feels poorly maintained and unsanitary. For a resort that markets itself so heavily toward families, this was extremely disappointing. Noise and Lack of Family-Friendly Atmosphere Despite being advertised as family-friendly, loud music is played late into the night, often keeping children awake. There is very little meaningful family-oriented entertainment in the evenings, and noise control is poorly enforced. A Resort in Decline It feels as though Bahia Principe Grand Coba is being used to subsidize renovations and capital projects at other Bahia properties, such as Akumal, Tulum, or Tequila. Regardless of the reason, this resort is nowhere near a 4-star experience. To put this into perspective, we spent the last few nights of our Cancun trip at an Iberostar resort, and the immediate contrast was striking. The difference in food quality, cleanliness, service, and overall experience made it clear just how far below standard Grand Bahia Principe Coba really is. Bottom Line This was, without question, the worst all-inclusive resort experience I have had. I have stayed at approximately 13 all-inclusive resorts across Mexico and the Dominican Republic, and this one ranks last. If you are traveling with children, or if you care about food safety, cleanliness, value, and basic maintenance, I strongly recommend choosing another resort.
The Coba resort is actually split in half as the quiet pool and surrounding accomadations have been taken over by the new Tequila resort. Having said that, the Coba still has the one main pool plus all the the kid pool stuff etc. We were there near the end of November and found that the Hotel was about 80 percent full. We enjoyed the Le Gourmet, Portifino and Mikado ala cartes at the Coba. We also enjoyed the Katok steakhouse at the Akumal (requires upgraded bracelet). As the quiet pool was now gone, we found ourselves hanging around the quiet jacuzzi pool. The Tequila resort personnel were testing out all there new speakers and the noise was much louder than we prefer as the thumping sound carried well into the Coba resort. It will be interesting to see how late they thump the music once the new resort opens on December 1st. We found the rooms to be clean and cool and the personnel were as great as we have come to expect at the Bahia. Well done Bahia!
Everything was good except from the below
Walls are paper thin and connecting door with neighbouring room let noise come in a lot. We could hear people from next room like they were inside ours
Very Disappointed!! We stayed at Sian Khan 2 years ago and thought The Coba would be great to take my daughter’s family with 2 small kids because of the kids waterpark. The kids enjoyed it very much! I will say that and the pools. The staff are all great and I’m sure it’s the this place is managed. We felt like we were second class guests there, we didn’t pay enough to get top service. ($7500 for 4 adults and 2 toddlers) There’s no restaurant or food of any type at the beach for Coba guests. My bad for not discovering that before we went. There’s only 1 bar at the beach and the day we were there 2 bartenders but only 1 was serving drinks the other guy was farting around not helping even though the line was 30 ppl deep all getting multiple drinks because of how long it was and we didn’t pay enough this twice same line same 1 bartender and slacker but I’m sure that’s the way management wants it to operate to get you to upgrade. So we visited the beach 1 day that’s it. The pool bars weren’t much better but occasionally the second bartender would jump in and help. Overall I don’t recommend this resort because your money could be spent somewhere where they actually appreciate it! We will never be back to a Bahía for this reason!
Disappointed doesn’t begin to cover our experience. We have stayed with this chain before, and the decline within 4 years is incredible. The rooms are in disrepair, uncomfortable and smell like mold and mildew. Staff does what they can to keep up and keep it clean, but it is visibly falling apart and not being maintained. The food is subpar and repetitive. Reservations are very hard to get at the alacart restaurants and honestly disappointing once there. The vibe and service is almost hostile in the Portofino restaurant, with wait staff leading with restrictions to the menu and host behaving like guests are a nuisance. Food again is subpar. Buffet is decent, but no matter the “theme” of the night, the only change I saw in what was offered throughout the week was the welcome drink. Alcohol is either bottom shelf, migraine inducing or watered down. But the absolute biggest disappointment was the advertised allowance of free rein throughout the connecting chains of sister resorts is no longer allowed without additional costs. And if you’re caught walking through the adjacent same-name resort you are treated like a criminal trespassing. You want to see the advertised beach? You now have to pay for that. Family of 10 that visits this destination annually, and we will NEVER be returning to this chain!
Sehr weitläufig,gute Abendunterhaltung,tolle grosse Zimmer,
Die Zufahrt zum Resort war voller Schlaglöcher. Die Stühle im Speisesaal niedrig und sehr hart,
After visiting Akumal for the sixth time, we decided to try Bahia Principe Gran Coba, largely because the room cost was more affordable. However, this affordability came with a major trade-off: Gran Coba doesn’t have direct beach access. You have to walk about half a mile to reach the beach area. Once you get to the beach, the space allocated for Gran Coba guests is quite limited and crowded. It’s tough to find a beach chair with enough personal space. On top of that, there’s only one bar serving the beach area, and it always has a line because there’s just one person working there. If you want a drink, be prepared to wait. Another inconvenience is that if you want a snack or lunch, you have to go all the way back to the Gran Coba area. That means another half-mile walk or waiting for a cart. Plus, other bars in the resort outside the Gran Coba zone won’t serve you, which makes things even more restrictive. Overall, after driving an hour from the airport and experiencing these service issues, we’ve decided that we won’t return to Bahia Principe Gran Coba. Next time, we’ll choose a resort like Riu that’s closer to the airport and offers a smoother and more convenient experience. It’s just not worth the hassle.
My husband and I stayed here from the 13th to the 24th of November 2025. Before leaving we were worried about the negative reviews and the fact that there were renovations going on for the new Tequilla resort opening on Dec 1st. Check in was seamless, no issues when we arrived at 1pm. Our room was not ready but we were able to go to the buffet to get something to eat while it was being prepared for us. We were able to get into our room at 3pm and the room was spotless. Yes, it is an older building and did smell a little musty but we only went to the room to get ready for dinner and to sleep. The matress was a little hard but when I mentioned it to the girl that cleaned our room, she was able to add a matress topper which helped a lot. Buffet always had something to eat and breakfast was really good. Eggs made the way you like, lots of fresh fruit and bacon everyday. For lunch we ate at the snack bar near the pool where the servers there were wonderful. They remembered what we liked to drink and made sure we were taken care of everyday. A la carte dinners were good, we ate at the Brazilian, Japanese a la carte and tempinaki, also ate at the Italian. Service was great in all of them and food was really good as well! Pools were warm and kept pretty clean, only issue we saw when there were that the steps to go in were a little slippery so you had to be careful when entering and exiting the pool. Foam party was fun and entertainment at the pool was good. Staff were really friendly and would go around trying to engage people to participate in the activities. Lots of chairs at the pool every day, did not have any issues getting seats. Beach was small and chairs were very crowded and pushed together but we only went there twice. You have to take a tram to get there as its a pretty far walk. Night life was really good. Dancing every night which was so much fun outside of the lobby and staff that worked in the lobby and outside of the lobby were so attentive and brought drinks to us. Maria in the lobby bar served us every night and she was so friendly and efficient. Staff outside of the lobby bar, Daniel, Miguel and Yalily were also fantastic and made sure we were taken care of every night. All in all, we had a great time and have nothing to complain about. Do not listen to the negative reviews! We had a wonderful time and we will be back!! Gracias to all the staff and hope to be back soon!!
Disappointed. Have stayed at Bahía chains many times but this resort was old, run down, understaffed. Pool bar took too long for drinks, only one bartender. No chair side service. Buffet is picked over and the same everyday. Very large resort, 15 min walk to the beach. No signs to guide you in the right direction so it’ll take a few days to figure out where to go. You can catch shuttles throughout but they are very busy. Foods is mediocre, but ok for the price. Portion of the resort is under construction, smells like septic in some areas. You have to pay an additional amount to receive another bracelet in order to eat and use the beaches or pools at the newer Bahía azul. It cost us 228.00 usd for 5 days. There were 6 of us on this trip.
buffet, kids club, pool activities, snorkeling,
old AC in the room. AC control did not work. You have too book restaurant 3-4 days before going there, so you need to start doing it even before you arrive to the location. Japanese restaurant experience was not good.
Had the most amazing full body couples massage. Zen from the moment we arrived. Relaxing environment, welcoming staff and Landy and Yacsuri did an amazing job. The only down side I wanted it to last all day! Highly recommend if your staying in this complex
Food was good everywhere we went on the resort
I had a family of 4 in my room and was supposed to have two queen beds, which would have allowed my girls to sleep in one bed and my husband and I in the other, but instead we had two twin sized beds and a sofa/bed. these beds are not big enough for two people to sleep in, so I had to squeeze in with on of my kids. This is my only issue I had.
Excelente relación precio-calidad, muy buena limpieza de las partes comunes, y personal muy profesional y amable
Lejos de la playa, pero con carros que pasan con buena frecuencia
My husband and I spent a wonderful week at Coba in November 2025. This was our second time at the Bahia Principe in the Riviera Maya—our first was about a year and a half ago at Akumal, which we really enjoyed. This time, we chose to stay at Coba. If you stay at Coba, you only have access to Coba’s buffet and the Coba loungers at the beach. You can purchase an upgrade for about $20 USD per person per day, which gives access to Akumal and the other buffets, bars, pools, and beach loungers. Whatever day you upgrade, you have to upgrade for the remainder of your stay. We thought we might upgrade, but ended up loving Coba so much that we didn’t feel the need. The family-friendly atmosphere made me feel very safe and relaxed. We were also surprised by how many fellow guests we met who were from Canada! The room was good. I found the bed, while still on the firm side, was softer than the bed we had at Akumal. We had booked a queen bed but ended up with 2 doubles. This didn't bother either of us. We also found our key card took quite a few tries to open the door. My favorite part of Coba was the plaza where the nightly musical entertainment took place—it had a bit of a European vibe that I really enjoyed. I also preferred Coba’s buffet over Akumal’s, as the food at Coba was served hotter. We saw 2 of the Theater shows: The City of Rock and Urban - both were fantastic. I was super impressed and recommend these. Coba is not directly on the beach; it’s about a 12-minute stroll or a 5-minute trolley ride. We enjoyed the leisurely walks to help burn off some of the extra calories lol. The beach bar could use more staff, and beach servers, as the line for drinks was often very long. The Coba section of the beach doesn’t have as many loungers as Akumal, but we never had trouble finding two. We also enjoyed many of the other activities - bingo, yoga, water volleyball, water polo, bike riding tour. Overall, we had a fantastic stay and will definitely be back—most likely at Coba again.
Nice buffet, adults only sections and beach. Friendly staff too. The themed restaurants I attended were nice and accommodating of my gluten allergy. Can get a day pass for the other resorts so can go to the luxury buffet which is nice.
Hard to get reservations, shouldn't be able to book all tables at themed restaurants in advance, should have some tables saved for on the day. Check in also took a very long time (45 minutes) with only one staff member on at 5pm.
This was our 7th trip to Coba and we still love it here. Rooms are dated, but clean and comfortable bed, and really how much time do you spend in your room. Rooms are air conditioned and it worked great. Had lots of fun with Antonio, Alex, Elder, Hazeil, Alejandro, Hanna and Roberto the Entertainment Team. Had good service at the Piscis snack bar, as well as at the Buffet. Ofelia, Geraldine, maybe the wrong name, and Maria kept our glasses full at the Lobby Bar.
The resort has a large outdoor area and access to the facilities of the neighboring hotels. The staff were polite, although they were unable to offer any real solution to our situation.
We had to leave the hotel early due to a very strong smell of mould and chemicals in every room we were shown. The air quality was so poor that staying in any of the rooms was impossible, especially with our almost two-year-old child who suffers from early-childhood asthma. Despite multiple requests for help, no real or safe solution was offered to us. The rooms we received did not match the five-star standard advertised in the listing. The whole situation was extremely stressful and forced us to leave the property earlier than planned.
Check-in: The two women we interacted with during our stay seemed unhappy, cold, and had a “don’t bother me” attitude. They should not have to work with guests. Buffet: Large and with potential, but it was reduced to about ¾ of its usual size by management. • Breakfast: Two omelette stations with cooks, but staples like bacon and potatoes were hard to keep stocked. The food was emptied faster than it could be refilled. • Lunch/Dinner: Plenty of variety, but only one live cooking station—the Mexican corner. No pasta, fish, chicken, or grill made to order by a chef, which was disappointing. Snack Bar (Piscis): Serves lunch until 6 pm and reopens at 10 pm. Limited selection, no made-to-order options. Everything is pre-cooked and lukewarm. Offers burgers, hot dogs, fries, and salads. Nice outdoor setting for a change from the buffet. A-la-carte restaurants : you need to book 10 days before your check-in on the app. Coba gets 3 dinners per week. We had the Mikado Teppanyaky (8/10), the Gourmet Coba ( 9/10) and the Brazilian Gran Tortuga (Tulum) was our favorite (10/10). Trolleys: Available at the lobby and a couple of stops at Coba. They pass every 10–15 minutes and go to La Hacienda, other resorts, and the beach (5 minutes away). Pleasant ride. Beach : very small , crowded. Unless you go ‘’up’’ on the second level of beach, like a terrace, but there are renovations there and you will hear saws and jackhammer. There were always empty loungers though. Renovations (Half of Coba is getting renovated to be the ‘new’ Bahia Tequila). The renovations are noisy at times, but it depends on your building location. It was not a problem for us overall. Rooms: Very clean and spacious but outdated and poorly soundproofed. Entertainment: The best I’ve seen in years. Eder and his team kept the pool area lively with challenges, classes, and music. I was especially impressed by the number of choices at night.—Terraza, sports bar, theatre shows, and the lobby bar. Impossible to get bored before 11pm! Staff: Aside from the check-in desk, everyone was friendly, polite, helpful, and always smiling—from trolley drivers to housekeepers, maintenance, and servers. Management: I did not see any onsite, but I can clearly say they overwork their staff. Only one bartender at the pool bar and one at swim-up bar, serving long lines non-stop for the whole Coba... The waiting lines were long and they should have always been 2 or 3 bartenders. We felt like management was cutting costs by reducing bar staff, buffet variety & cooks. Again, staff worked VERY HARD and were efficient, but couldn’t keep up with the demand. THE STARS OF THE RESORT : two employees that go above and beyond to make our stay an incredible experience: *** Eder (entertainment) & Miguel (Buffet) *** In conclusion, we had a great time at Coba, thanks to incredible staff and entertainers. We would like to come back, but after the full renovations.
Les animateurs sont super
L’indication des chambres le premier jour
The rooms are worn, no direct beach access, no restaurants were available on our stay, booked for a week straight. We ate warm buffet food for a week. I also recommend hiring your own transportation to and from the airport. It was over a 2-hour bus ride back to the airport, picking up at 6 different hotels. The entertainment at the resort was amazing, a lot of fun. The price point for the trip was great, now I know why. It was bare minimum service.
Here at the moment and all good except food always cold in buffet restaurant. Staff aware but nothing alters. Phil Sally 32935.
