Great location & beautiful
Setting and location Hotel staff super friendly and informative
That we couldn’t stay longer
Wonderful quiet location very near to the centre of Newcastle. Staff were refreshingly polite and always willing to help.
Beautiful building and surroundings.
Room was nice but bed was rock hard and thin pillows… Lack of details in the room. Like bathroom bin didn’t work, there was 2 shampoos but no body wash, little things but annoying things.
It is a beautiful old building with modern bedrooms and facilities. It is on the edge of a forest park with lovely walks and views, but also a short walk to Jesmond shops and restaurants.
Nothing
Super charming hotel in Jesmon. Although it is an old house next to an big park, so lots of green around. The renovation of the hotel has been done extremely well and the rooms are modern and in style and very commfortable. Bathrooms are also new. Location is great, less than 10' from the city center that you can reach by the underground. I stayed there to be close to Freeman Hospital *walking distance, where i had to work for a couple of days. Breakfast is really nice and service at reception and restaurant are impecable. All 10 !!!
nothing to add.
The room was roomy, light and comfortable. Dinner menu was exceptional with choice and quality and the breakfast on offer was extremely varied.
My wife is disabled and upon arrival there were no parking spaces available due to a large function. Even the disabled parking was taken up selfishly and there was no organisation to prevent it.
A beautiful old house
Very expensive
The hotel was gorgeous & the staff were all very friendly.
Not much choice of food for vegetarians.
Great
Everything
Lovely hotel close to centre of Newcastle, very caring staff and good choice of evening meal at restaurant.
All good no negative points
Location
We enjoyed our stay at Jesmond Dene House, which has lovely rooms, comfortable beds and we enjoyed an excellent breakfast served by friendly staff. However, several small details fell short of what we would expect from a 4-star hotel. We booked 2 rooms. The first room (35) smelled strongly of stale cigarette smoke, although reception moved us promptly (to 36). The doors did not double-lock from the inside, which did not feel particularly secure. In the 2nd room (42) there were no USB charging ports, and the bathroom bin had not been emptied on arrival. Other minor issues in room 36 included a very low shower, frayed towels and supplies that needed replenishing (tissues & loo roll). The breakfast charge could also have been explained more clearly as we were surprised that the £46.20 breakfast charge on check-out included service, when breakfast was advertised as £21. Despite these shortcomings, we enjoyed our stay and would return for the location and easy parking.
As above ^
Everything, what a beautiful hotel. The room was superb and immaculate. The food in the restaurant was delicious and the staff were lovely too. We couldn't have had a better start to our honeymoon 😍
Nothing, it was perfect
location and buiding
Bar was smelly.....of beer......breakfast was poor amount and disappointing quality. My daughter ordered kippers then something else which were both off ie not available.
Lovely spacious suite with nice outlook. Nice touches in the room for comfort.
The breakfast wasn’t very inspiring and it would be nice if guests travel from a distance and are slightly early for check in to have somewhere that they can sit or wait. We arrived on a Sunday and there was no space anywhere to even sit and wait.
Position
In the park
Breakfast and dinner were excellent.
Sometimes staff seemed a little slow on our arrival in the restaurant. But they were very pleasant once seated.
This is a wonderful historic and extremely comfortable place to stay. The staff was over the top accommodating and polite. Abby, from reception, was an absolute dream helping me get a beautiful room and settled with my luggage. The rooms were generous and the beds comfortable. In a beautiful natural setting with Woodland trails nearby that I wish I’d have had more time to explore. There was a lovely dinner option for a two or three course meal for less than £30.
The breakfast was delicious, but a little on the high side.
Lovely location, lovely room and excellent breakfast.
Beautiful old building, lovely lady on reception, gorgeous room with access to a private roof terrace.
Loved it.
Everything
Breakfast was very good, selection excellent. So clean and friendly.
Toilet was very low. Uncomfortable.
Exceptional hotel, tucked into a wooded valley within a couple of miles of central Newcastle. Amazing. Felt more like a country house hotel but with the restaurants and bars of Jesmond and the metro station just a 10-15 min walk.
Nice hotel; well located for transport options into city centre and good local restaurants within walking distance.
It could be much improved with clearer management structures: young staff, sweet and willing but not trained to work together as a fully efficient, costumer-focussed team. Abbie on reception made check in a positive experience - but we had to wait whilst she dealt with a call, as no other receptionist to help her in this busy hotel. Bar service was haphazard - once staff actually appeared; the bar itself looks untidy and not very welcoming. Breakfast was a twenty minute wait to be seated in the restaurant whilst table clearing and setting happened, again without any order or system - or reassuring eye contact or updates from the staff. Starting the day in a growing queue of other hungry and disgruntled guests, feeling ignored by staff, was not an ideal beginning to our stay. Our room was comfortable if dark. Indeed the hotel feels rather drab and dark altogether; it could do with a fresh eye to look at colour and accessorising to give it a more contemporary and brighter 4-star feel, as well as staff training, to justify the prices it charges.
The building and rooms. Lovely historic location with great walks. Nice restaurant, beds and breakfast
Lighting a bit dim in room
Goed hotel, mooie kamer, vriendelijk personeel, Locatie is prima om de stad en omgeving te verkennen. Metro is bereikbaar op loopafstand (5 minuten). Parkeer gelegenheid is goed. We komen zeker terug.
Ik vond persoonlijk de kamer en badkamer prima, het enige puntje was dat het toilet in de badkamer wel heel laag hangt. Voor mij geen probleem, maar voor oudere mensen wellicht wel wat minder comfortabel.
Good location
Limited parking but there was a wedding there at the same time

Everything. Room was beautiful and comfortable, food was good. Lovely surroundings.
Everything was great.
Extremely comfortable beds. Beautiful building. Great to have good supply of water and glasses. Staff really friendly and helpful
Clean, spacious, comfortable and peaceful
Seemed to be a shortage of staff in the late evenings and at breakfast.
Jesmond Dene House is a beautiful historic property that has been sensitively restored, retaining plenty of original features. We loved the peaceful, well-cared-for garden and the gorgeous view of trees from our bedroom. The room itself was clean, comfortable, and equipped with everything we needed for a five day stay. Housekeeping got the balance right between guests’ comfort and preserving the environment. The refillable water bottles (and fan) were welcome as we stayed during a hot spell. Reception staff were friendly and professional, always on hand to help if needed. Special thanks to Alex for booking our cabs each day! The hotel was busy with weddings while we were there but it never felt crowded or noisy - just happy and full of joy. We had breakfast one morning and dinner one night in the Fern Restaurant. Both meals were delicious and service was excellent. An all-round fabulous stay.
There was nothing we disliked.
Peaceful location , friendly staff, good food Ideal for convalescence or romantic break
Great location for freeman hospital
Nothing
Friendly, attentive and welcoming staff for whom nothing was too much trouble. The food and service was very good. Beautiful building and location.
We took advantage of the Sunday Lunch promotion coupled with a one-night stay. The lunch was really delicious; perfect roast beef with excellent vegetables and Yorkshire puddings. The only minor disappointment was that the roast lamb had run out but we were the last table to sit down and, with beef this good, it really wasn’t a problem. Our hotel room was superb; spacious and well appointed with a hand-written not for the Housekeeping Team which was a lovely touch to make us feel welcome. The reception staff were also very welcoming, especially Alexandra who went out of her way to help us enjoy our stay.

This is a beautiful hotel - and the staff were fantastic!
Peaceful and comfortable in a beautiful area.
As always, a perfect few days to celebrate our 49th wedding anniversary - we have already booked for our 50th! It’s a lovely place - we stay there every 6 months or so, just for a quiet few days. The staff are all friendly and helpful, without exception. Some of them have been there for years which, tome, suggests it’s a nice place to work, as well as to visit. Our room was lovely -had been updated since last time -beautiful. The ‘pièce de résistance’ was our meal last night! Sublime!!!! Thanks to all of you again!
This was a delight to look at as we drove up the drive. We were quite excited about what was to come The receptionist was a young girl who really was a bit vague. ( and kept playing with her hair while talking to her 😡😡) We asked for help with our bags, which she did. Well one bag. But what she should have done was ask us to move the car closer to The New House, so less walking and less carrying heavy bags. Instead our car was parked then we had to move it ( please just think practically) The new section was lovely. But wow, did those floors creak! Strange given it’s the newer part. We booked in for dinner as they had an August Special, only to be told it wasn’t on that day of the week! I looked on line and there was nothing that mentioned certain days of the week! Disappointing Breakfasts were lovely It is a bit out of town, but we dove in and parked and wandered. Easy.
Breakfast offering was good, they have a nice conservatory to eat in. The room appeared very clean, although I did find a previous occupant's aerosol can lid underneath the bed whilst looking for something I myself dropped under the bed.
One thing I found awkward was that in the room we were in (room 14), the toilet cistern was 2-3 inches lower than standard height - this might not seem a lot, but when you're in your 60's, it makes a difference getting up/down for it. Not sure whether this was the toilet fitting itself, or if the bathroom floor has been raised around the bathroom furniture (the bathroom floor was a little higher than the bedroom).
Second summer spending a few days at Jesmond Dene House. The whole experience was a good as ever. Beautiful hotel, fabulous service, delicious breakfast. But it’s the staff that make it a great place to stay. They are all super welcoming and helpful. Special shout out to Tom T……an absolute superstar in the Front of House Team.
Great hotel, beautiful setting and superb facilities, only had a chance to stay 1 night but made to feel very welcome plus upgraded to a suite which made it even more special. The whole team I interacted with at the Hotel went out of their way to be helpful and friendly. Hopefully next time I go the Newcastle I will be able to stay longer than just 1 night and sample more of the facilities.
The lovely Arts and Craft hotel building, luxurious and comfortable bedrooms, cosy characterful bar, elegant restaurant and excellent food and beautiful garden.
Felt rural
Set in the most beautiful part of Newcastle. The hotel building is stunning and the inside is beautifully decorated whilst maintaining it historic background. The rooms are very clean and have all the amenities needed - fresh milk for tea in the morning was a bonus for me. There were weddings at the hotel when I was staying but I barely heard any noise from guests. Breakfast is amazing with plenty of choice and high quality. Staff were very helpful, polite and made my stay very comfortable. A special thank you to Abby who was absolutely amazing. She literally couldn't do enough for me!
Location and first impressions were good. The room was on the second floor, decor was a little dated but in keeping with the old manor house feel. Cooked breakfast was good, although the continental selection was very limited.
The biggest issue was that when we got into the room there was a loud noise coming from outside. It turned out to be the kitchen extractors which were very noisy and we were just above them. We contacted reception, they assured us the noise would go when the kitchen closed. We got back to the room later to find them still going. We contacted reception again around midnight, they apologised, said the kitchen must have forgotten to turn them off and they would sort it. They didn't the noise kept going all night, kept us awake, it was hot and we couldn't open the windows because of the noise. On top of this the bed was just a small double. We mentioned this again to reception when checking out and they offered nothing more than a verbal apology. Just not good enough.
We were able to check in early and were initially very impressed with our room. A little annoyance was a soap dispenser was empty and the shower in the bath didn’t work requiring us to get out and use the actual shower. Dinner was good value and well cooked albeit a bit bizarre to get tzatziki on my hake but no vegetables. Breakfast was perfect.
We were checking out hotels around the Freeman hospital as my wife will have to stay local whilst l have a 4/5 day assessment for a lung transplant, we wanted somewhere convenient and safe in an area we were not knowledgeable of.The reception staff were very reassuring that this was the best choice and we booked for that night .An excellent meal and room and restful night ensured that we booked for the 5 days of my hospital appointment next week.ln what should have been a stressful time l now find that l am looking forward to my return to Newcastle knowing how well my wife will be well looked after in your wonderful establishment. A special shout out to Alex Rc, Alex B, Abbey and Oli the loveliest restaurant staff and Faye who are all a real credit to your team. These people didn't just take care of us they cared for us and were such a lovely lot. Think it was Alex Rc who we picked up a wee bunch of flowers for as the 1st face of Jesmond Dene she was the brightest light and so welcoming making us feel so welcome ( home from home) your whole team shone ) so much so that we've told so many people about you and will certainly recommend your hotel and team to our pulmonary group to stay here when their time comes for transplant and the freeman hospital co ordination team to recommend your hotel.
We came across your fabulous hotel by chance ( hubby spotted it ) and we're met by the wonderful Alex Rc. Who booked us in and was so welcoming and warm we felt at home! Hubby is getting assessments for double lung transplant and the team here ( Alex C, Abbey and Oli and Faye )where so professional yet warm and very attentive not just to us but everyone staying. So much so we've booked another week when hubby is in the hospital I am looking forward to returning to your hotel safe in the knowledge I'm taken care of at a stressful time. Since leaving we've recommended you to everyone and will be telling the freeman hospital about your hotel and the service we received. We were spoilt not only with the hotel, situated in the most peaceful setting, 10 mins from the hospital, but by the staff 's warm welcome and readiness to help. Just wonderful felt like we were at home not a hotel. Well done and thank you.
A lovely stay. Brilliant staff. Lovely room, lovely food and great setting.
It is an ancient and elegant structure but with all the modern comforts. The staff is professional and ready to help, breakfast was really good and a special mention goes to the signature afternoon tea, highly reccomended. The position is strategic, close the underground station.
Great location, exceptional room and very pleasant staff
Nothing
A gorgeous beautiful hotel. The staff are well trained and very courteous
Decor and room
Room was nice and clean. Lovely bathroom.
The mini bar fridge wasn't working properly as it didn't keep any thing cool/cold. The fella at the reception wasn't very friendly, just got a bad vibe from him.
Location Staff very helpful and friendly.
Nothing to not like
Always wonderful to stay at Jesmond Dene house and we brought my elderly parents for a special occasion. The team were fantastic and Abby went above and beyond to make everything go smoothly. We highly recommend the assisted room 6 which was perfect for my parents and shower stand and toilet raise were thoughtfully provided unasked. Lovely food, spaces and relaxation.
This hotel is an oasis sitting in the heart of Jesmond, Newcastle. Beautiful architecture and gardens, well equipped room (recommend the Armstrong Suite) and a lovely garden room for breakfast. The service was always friendly and polite. A few minor niggles in the room, that should now be rectified :)
We stayed at JDH for our daughter's wedding and reception in June 2026 and the whole event was absolutely superb...beyond our expectations. Hannah and her team coordinated to perfection and nothing was too much trouble. Our accommodation above the Grand Hall was beautifully presented, comfortable and airy (despite the hot weather) with fans to keep the air as cool as possible. All the guests commented on how lovely the day was and this is in no small part to the setting, hospitality, quality of the food and drink and the welcome we all felt from the JDH team. If you are thinking about a place to stay in Newcastle upon Tyne, or a venue for a Wedding reception and accommodation for guests look no further that JDH! We thought it was superb and a huge thank you to Hannah and her team.
A beautiful place to stay. Lovely location & such a charming hotel. Deluxe double room was very comfortable and we had a lovely surprise balcony with outdoor seating area. Small plate of sweet treats with a welcoming note in room on arrival was a nice touch. Excellent breakfast. Staff so welcoming & friendly. Hope to plan another visit later this year. Would highly recommend
Gorgeous 19th century house, amazing location
The shower drain was very loud and gurgled a lot It would have been nice for the staff to let us know a wedding was happening on the Saturday, the music afterwards was situated directly opposite our window
Great location for the city due to the Metro
Na
Very pretty and nicely decorated place
staff very friendly
Got upgraded from superior to deluxe room no complaints about the room it was lovely
Very slow service, no hairdryer in the room, food mediocre
This was our second visit to JDH and it was just as fabulous this time as it was last time. We dined in the Ferns restaurant and the food was fantastic but the dining experience was made even better by Oli, our excellent waiter. Everything happened at just the right pace - we didn’t feel rushed or that we were kept waiting. It felt as if nothing was too much trouble. We previously stayed in October (and the weather was horrendous) so hadn’t really experienced the glorious gardens behind the hotel - this time we were able to relax in them listening to the distant flow of the river. We even managed breakfast on the patio! The spacious room with its comfortable bed and restful decor was worth every penny. I would happily return to this lovely hotel.
Thank You to Josh who looked after us beautifully on an very hot day for our w graduation lunch! You made a lovely relaxed family celebration for us all.
We had a lovely one night stay at Jesmond Dene House hotel. The location is excellent for proximity to Newcastle and we're aware of some lovely walks, cafés and a bakery in the area. The hotel is in a peaceful location with beautiful grounds. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. We had a lovely conversation with the receptionist who laughed and joked with us. The accessible room we stayed in had a tiled bench in the shower with a handheld shower and rainfall which could both be on at the same time. The room was equipped with a fan. The bed was quite high which might be a problem for some people. The room and bathroom were all clean and had so many lovely extras. Some handmade sweet treats with a kind note to welcome us, a selection of teas and coffees, comfortable bathrobes and fresh towels. There was also conditioner along with the shampoo and body wash in the shower - those with longer hair will know that's often not the case in many hotels! We had an excellent night's sleep. If there were guests in the rooms above or next to us we didn't hear them. Breakfast was excellent, and we enjoyed the continental breakfast buffet which would have been more than enough for us but we did each get something off the cooked breakfast menu as well. We had a hotel voucher to use so we only paid a little bit extra to stay, but the hotel went beyond our expectations. We hope to come back one day!
What a truly wonderful place this is an absolute hidden gem. I went with my girlfriend and stayed in a very luxurious room with a hot tub. we had such a fantastic time we were celebrating our anniversary we had champagne and chocolate strawberries waiting for us.and dined in the evening for a nice meal the food was absolutely fantastic and the service was faultless. we will definitely be returning thanks again.
From start to finish, Jesmond Dene House exceeded expectations. My husband surprised me with a night away here in a garden suite and honestly the stay couldn’t be faulted. We were greeted by the wonderful Abby who made sure that we had an incredible stay, she was so helpful, friendly and accommodating to an early check in. Thankyou Abby. The room which included a hot tub was amazing, so clean and even a complimentary birthday surprise when we arrived. Overall it was an amazing stay that we wish we could’ve extended, will definitely be back here but it was made extra special by all staff. Thankyou so much
Fantastically comfortable and great breakfast.
Nothing, though a coffee maker and mugs in the room rather than cups would have been nice.
Beautiful location, friendly and helpful staff. Great value
Internet could be unreliable, thankfully I was not relying on it so was not a problem
Excellent stay
Could be cleaner in bathroom Very grotty paintwork around the door handles
We stayed here Christmas Eve night 2024 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It is so relaxing with very friendly and helpful staff. Friday gone, we treat ourselves to another night, an evening meal and breakfast. Again, we had a lovely time and will be back.
Everything! A beautiful old mansion set in delightful grounds. Staff and service were wonderful.
Nothing. I could not fault anything.
We stayed for my best friend's 20th wedding anniversary. We both had our room's upgraded at no additional cost, which was appreciated. Their upgraded room had a garden and hot hub. The staff were amazing and really looked after us.
I don’t normally complete reviews. I stay in dozens of different hotels every year. Jesmond Dene achieved my first perfect 10
Nothing
They couldn't do more to help and every need was met. It's a really attractive location, well converted from a large victorian home, and had very cheerful attentive staff. The food is excellent and the prices are reasonable for the high quality dinning. A very good stay!
I stayed at this hotel as my husband was seriously injured in a motorbike accident in France 22/5 and I flew out 23/5 , he spent 4 weeks in ICU in hospital in Rennes before we were repatriated to Freeman Hospital Newcastle 21/6 were he remains and i am in different hotels due to rooms being booked..The staff at Jesmond Dean Hotel could not have been more helpful , understanding and accomodating..the hotel is beautiful , in gorgeous grounds, serves wonderful food and is a very welcome quiet retreat after spending day after day visiting at the hospital..
Great location peaceful
The fridge had a smell not sure if it was working and television was positioned in slightly awkward location to view from the bed.
A beautiful property and the perfect location to quickly get to Freeman hospital for work.
The bed was like a rock! That is the only reason I have given a low score because I didn’t sleep. I would stay again if there are softer beds in other rooms but another guest said they had the same issue as me when I was checking out.
My husband is an inpatient at Freeman Hospital and I was able to walk there and back , plus make use of beautiful room and garden during the v hot weather as it was cool., also able to order food after returning from long stressful day at hospital, staff were fabulous..
Nothing
Very pretty, traditional. Staff were all lovely. Breakfast was exceptional.
Bathroom slightly dated, no proper air con.
Superb building with lots of history and charm, Great location with good parking and walks
Nothing
The building, the room and the surroundings are beautiful. The food was really good quality, the chef clearly take pride in his cooking.
Sometimes hard to find staff, turned up my dinner reservation and had to wait 5 minutes and breakfast no staff around. However, they certainly made up for this, friendly and professional.
Everything ! Beautiful building on the edge of a park - it felt as if you were in the countryside. Room was gorgeous, staff extremely pleasant and friendly and food delicious .
Everything! Staff were lovely and went above and beyond. Grounds are just beautiful. The rooms and service were all exceptional. Would happily recommend and revisit.
Nothing. It was exceptional right across the board.
The property was clean and had a lively ambiance, breakfast was first class and staff were excellent
We arrived just after 8.30pm and were unable to get any food , only thing available off the room service menu was a cheese board ( it was really nice )
Absolutely loved staying here. Perfect location for work . Had several meeting and was able to meet with clients in a lovely setting and had privacy.
This is my third visit and will not be the last! I love this hotel it's so peaceful and very good English country quality. Such an oasis in this city I decided to extend my stay for a week!
no air con...but because of the outlook of the woodland and no noise I could leave the windows open and fan on which worked and was needed in this unusual heatwave.
Love location, staff very friendly, love the building and it’s history.
Lighting in bar , lounge areas is awful. Bedside light switch didn’t work so had to get out of bed and switch off at mains. Paid £12 for tiny cup of soup and told bread would be extra. Tiny tea cups in room , no use to anyone

It was beautiful, the building itself is very well presented, tastefully decorated and furnished.
Nothing
I had the most wonderful stay at Jesmond Dene house. Travelled for a conference and didn't expect to stay in such a beautiful place. It was less than a five minute walk to the local waterfall - there was a gorgeous half an hour nature walk right from the car park of the hotel. The restaurant in the hotel was outstanding - serving innovative dishes like seabass ceviche and barbecued peaches with whipped rosemary ricotta and hazelnuts. Loved sitting in the garden for morning coffee in the sun. Was also grateful to come back to a beautiful room with treats provided on arrival (blondie bites) and a bathroom bigger than my flat! I highly recommend a stay here.
Nothing. A perfect stay
Beautiful property, the apartment was enormous, bed was huge and so comfortable. Terrace was amazing.
