Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Did not have breakfast at the hotel but the location was perfect for my senior to see if Chapel Hill is a place she sees herself for college. The basketball court on our floor was an amazing surprise.
Could use a fan in the room.
Loved the friendly staff and fun design elements.
Hated the air conditioning, which was extraordinarily loud.
Location. Location. Location. I traveled with my college seniors to check out UNC for grad school. I debated on staying on campus or The Graduate. Given the location on Franklin Street, this ended up being perfect for us. Restaurants and shops all walkable. A fun vibe. Very clean with updated bathrooms.
Great atmosphere, clean and comfortable rooms. Great location!
Spacious, airy, and clean—though the soundproofing isn't particularly good.
You should add toothbrushes, toothpaste, and combs; this way, if guests staying nearby decide to spend the night—and haven't brought many belongings—they will have something to use in case they've forgotten their own supplies.
The location is great and the hotel is cute.
The room was ridiculously expensive and for the price, the bed was the most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept in. Pure springs. They offered to put a blanket on top to "fix" it. Additionally the room had 2 packets of terrible instant coffee that they never restocked or replenished. The amenities were low budget hotel and it's a shame.
fabulous location. near target, panera, and lots of restaurants. rooms are fine.
Nice, clean room. A little too noisy for me. Quiet hours do not commence until 10 pm so college kids fraternize in the atrium between 3 and 4 throwing play baskstballs and sounds travels making it difficult to work on rest. I much preferred Carolina inn and was said it was sold out. Another thing I should note is the balcony rooms far west Franklin on floor 3 not floor 4. I specifically chose a digital key on floor 4 since a couple reviews mentioned 4 as their balcony and was disappointed when I checked in they were wrong. I tried to switch immediately upon checkin to 4 but was not allowed to. They said they were sold out. Yes, they had been sold out for weeks.but moments ago I had two floor 3 options with a balcony so I don’t know why they didn’t allow me to switch. I paid something like $425 per night plus taxes and the room on the photo was much nicer so I didn’t appreciate the inflexibility, particularly with Hilton status which did not get me the two bottles of water either. The location is terrific though
This is a nice hotel in a good location for visiting UNC - we were in close walking distance to a lot of restaurants. Our room (two queen beds) was a good size and clean and well-lit. The hotel’s UNC-themed decor was fun and creative. And the staff at the front desk and in the restaurant for breakfast were excellent! Only downsides were that the mattresses were not super comfortable (harder than I like), our balcony looked out on a McDonald’s and a big dumpster, and the parking garage wasn’t great for accessing the hotel. Overall a good stay though and I would stay here again.
I stayed at the Graduate Chapel Hill on a college visit with my son. I had to review the hotel because our stay was perfect. The room was really comfortable, and I'm buying some of their pillows for my own bed. I slept like a baby. The service was 5 star, from the front desk to housekeeping to the folks at the restaurant and bar. They location is awesome and very walkable, and close to lots of restaurants and the campus. The coolest things were the small details that really made you feel the spirit at UNC. Really great experience. Highly recommended.
Location was great!!
Nothing to report!
Hieno tunnelma ja koripallo-teema. Ystävällinen henkilökunta.
Close proximity to many things we wanted to see and do
Upon arrival, there were two dogs consistently barking next door so we asked to switch room. Front desk staff seemed very bothered by this request; our request was granted but not without attitude. Returning from the basketball game at 920 p.m. we were delighted to see the sign outside the bar and restaurant that clarely said "Dinner and drinks 5 -10 p.m." We walked in and began to look at a menu and a very rude waitress barked at us "JUST TO LET YOU KNOW THE KITCHEN IS CLOSED". We asked why since the sign said 10 pm and she walked off. We tried to tell the front desk staff about this and she giggled and said "huh, I don't know". We asked if there were snacks she could offer us and she just laughed uncomfortably. With all the options in Chapel Hill walkable to campus, will not stay here again. The room was comfortable and clean and the whole MJ theme is very neat.
Rooms were clean, easy to maneuver with luggage cart, safe, quiet. Parking was easy.
The breakfast is expensive but otherwise everything was great
Super convenient to UNC
Parking garage is really tight for a truck
Nice hotel in downtown chapel hill. Eclectic furnishings with a lot of unc references . Don’t think it is worth the 4 stars though. Little things that you would expect for a 4 star hotel were missing. No ice bucket in the room, nor tea, just powdered instant coffee for example . Staff could have been friendlier.

The basketball court in the middle of an atrium open to 3 floors of rooms might be the worst design even of a hotel. Kids and parents are running and yelling in there all day and night as if it were a McDonald’s Playland. Hotel staff did not help mitigate the constant yelling. It is truly unbelievable. Would definitely not ever stay here unless it was truly the last place in Chapel Hill.
The drag show for 3 hours was a terrible idea. It was loud and that is not for family to enjoy. It literally took up the entirety of our stay. That would have been a better idea for vegas or a bar.
Staff great, good location, easy parking!
Wonderful eclectic hotel. The bed was really comfortable! Great location and view from our balcony.
It sure is a uniquely themed and relatively small hotel, with basketball themed hardwoods, and headboards on each bed. The staff are great and the bar area is particularly nice. Facilities are limited and breakfast is not included. The building infrastructure Needs a little work as the AC unit was incredibly Loud, the loudest of any hotel I’ve ever stayed at and the concrete on the balcony was crumbling. I do think that the hotel was overpriced for the services on offer but you can’t beat the location.
If you like “vacancy checks” at 1:11am by hotel staff, this is the place for you. They won’t judge you in your underwear. If you think apologies are old fashioned and unnecessary, you’ll love management.
Very cute. Great location. Friendly staff.
We came for our 13th anniversary 28 years after meeting at Carolina as undergrads. The hotel had the perfect mix of fun- basketball headboards- with sophistication and comfort. Loved all the personal nostalgic touches- the keycards featured alumni and their “check in” and “check out” dates from their time at Carolina. Very relaxed and refreshed after a night there.
Location and architecture of the hotel. Location is really good.
There is no breakfast nor restaurant
Cute and artsy, sheik hotel with fun decor. Big hit is the carpeted basketball court in middle of hotel with pillow basketballs. Hoops are standard 10 ft. Boys really enjoyed it! Latte coffee was decent in the restaurant. No laundry (we were baseball players so bummed about that stinky laundry had to be reworn LOL) and no ice machines but you could get ice at front desk. Floors made out of old basketball courts and headboards are basketball headboards. Cute touch. Presential suite could use an "uplift". Looks dated.
Very disappointed in my/our stay at this property. The individual that check us in upon arrival had little to desire people skills. Additionally, the room we were put in apparently has had past air conditioning issues, which we were not made aware of. The temps outside were above 90 all day and the room A/C was not working properly and room temps were high up until 4:00am when it eventually cooled down. Room also still had a portable wall unit attached to the outside airflow, thus drawing in warm air to help cool the room. It did not. Staff was aware of issues with room and yet still put my family and I in it. Offered no option to have us move to a more comfortable room nor any type of discount knowing g issues existed. We will no longer view The Graduate hotels as an option for us to stay in when visiting certain college towns. Very disappointed and this facility should be ashamed of how they handle the situation.
The property itself and staff were great. We were disappointed with one staff member who removed the basketballs at 8:45 pm when the kids were told they could play until 9:30pm. She stated that a guest complained and so one guest was allowed to ruin the experience for 3 other families. Due to a baseball camp we had limited other time to enjoy this feature. The breakfast food in trophy room wasn’t the best but the coffees were awesome. Rooms were clean and front desk staff was extremely helpful. The Granville towers replica dorm room was cool to show my son since I stayed there while in school.
amazing
Very friendly and accommodating staff, beautifully appointed room with a college vibe that is stylish and sophisticated
Gorgeous, fun, different!! Loved everything about this hotel!
Large room with quirky decor (shabby chic?) was clean and quiet. The helpfulness and friendliness of the staff, particularly "Shy" (who was not shy) made this a five star experience.
Overall 4 stars. The Great: Spacious rooms with comfortable pillows in a good downtown location. Funky college basketball decor worked for us (but might not be everyone’s cup of tea). Also liked that the window in the room can be opened a bit to let in some fresh air. The Terrible: 1) We had to “request” the room be cleaned— a nonsense remnant of Covid (which was 5 years ago!). Hotels don’t do this anymore. We paid for the room, which should obviously include maid service! 2) EV car chargers in garage didn’t work. Especially annoying given they charge like $25 to park there. Overall we would be happy to return if these issues are addressed.
Unique property highlighting UNC Chapel Hill sports traditions. Conveniently located to campus and walkable to a number of restaurants. Front desk service and Trophy Room (staffed by Asia) were wonderful!
Stayed one night. Cute interior design, fun, different. The problems where the bed is to firm. Was up and down all night. Tried to sleep in the chair but nothing to put feet up. The shower was either to hot or cold and the shower head was about to break away from the tile. Thermostat kept changing . For example set it on 72 for the night. Very loud when it runs so that contributed to not sleeping. At 5am the thermostat was set at 76. To warm in the room. Has to monitor the thermostat, because it kept changing.
Location
Underground parking
Friendly staff, clean, well appointed, and walk to campus.
they did not have the room I reserved. I will be reaching out to Expedia because I paid more for a room than what I should have considering they said their AC was not working in the room reserved
The staff did not tell me that there was a public lot next to the hotel when I specifically askedif there was one. They told me to park in the hotel parking lot and charged me an exorbitant amount for an overnight...it was free next door. If I did not ask, that would be a different conversation, but I did ask and was still told to park and pay which I found egregious. In general, the front desk staff was not very warm and welcoming.
I would pick a better person for the front desk. Someone with better social skills.
I will definitely visit again
The staff/hotel dropped the ball by not informing its guests that there would be a running race on Saturday morning which would leave guests stranded. We checked out at 8am but were stranded on Kenan St with no way out for an hour and a half. Thank God we did not have a flight to catch, but our plans to get out of town were disrupted. Had we known, we could have left earlier. Left a poor taste after an otherwise great stay.
The staff at the front desk was outstanding.
Good
Great theme to the hotel. Near all of the restaurants and to UNC
The location to Franklin Street and the University was awesome. The rooms were just OK as they seemed a little dated, and I know to some extent they are meant to be that way. For the price that was charged I was expecting more. You are primarily paying for the location.
Room not ready, barely any breakfast
Great location
Really liked this hotel overall - and the staff in particular was excellent. The rooms are comfortable; the beverage/snack selection was good; the restaurant offered good breakfast options. Like other Graduate hotels, the decor was charming (very sports-focused at this one for obvious reasons) and the location near the campus was excellent. My only complaint was that our room was right off the indoor basketball court (it's carpeted, and the balls are soft), which people were using while we were trying to sleep. It was very loud. If you stay here, I would ask for a room that is NOT right off of the indoor court on the 3rd floor.
The place is fine. We needed the pull out sofa bed and it was horribly uncomfortable. Restaurant on site is average at best. Rooms are nice but our shower head was falling out of the wall, door to enter hotel from garage was broken...it just needs a little TLC.
My sister and I shared Room 311, a double Queen with a balcony (not a great view) on the third floor for three nights (FriSatSun). The room was quiet and comfortable and decorated with lots of fun fabrics, lamps, and Carolina basketball touches. The bathroom has a large shower, very fluffy towels and nice amenities. The room was serviced every day which we really appreciated. The hot water kettle worked well and was great for tea (which I brought with me) but the instant coffee packets provided by the hotel was not very good. There are no ice machines for guests but the front desk staff provided a bucket with ice upon request. Best pro: the location! An easy walk to the main section of Franklin Street and campus. Also bought coffee and drinks in the on-site "Tavern" during our stay. Helpful, friendly staff all around.
Pot smell horrible outside, disgusting from outside the room through the window. We paid extra for a balcony and we could not use it because of the pot smell below. When they called from the front desk they would not change us to a similar room. Only a smaller one with no refund. No sympathy or help. Don't stay here.
My daughter and I recently stayed at this hotel to visit and tour UNC and Duke. The location absolutely cannot be beat, you can walk to everything and you are right in the heart of Chapel Hill and campus life. The rooms are well done and cozy but could use a water glass or cup in bathroom. Only option is to use paper coffee cups, but if your room is never serviced you are out of luck. The bartender at Trophy is amazing. Unfortunately, the reviews regarding poor service at this hotel are well deserved. The staff are pretty apathetic and unhelpful or cheerful. A couple in their 80s came in and asked for a bell boy to help with their luggage and the front desk staff rudely told them there hasn't been a bell boy since 2019. I almost helped them myself! We stayed 3 nights and our room was never cleaned despite requesting 2x and setting a requested time. So given the high price very little value here aside from great location.
Staff was amazing, location is ideal. Great experience
Loved the location, the service in the bar area and the food.
In the room the HVAC unit was very loud.
Could this hotel be any cuter?! Seriously. They blended the North Carolina charm and UNC pride so well in the decor! The room felt very homey. The bed was comfortable. The shower was great. Loved the elliptical in the gym, too. They also have a carpeted basketball court in the center of the upstairs, which younger kids would love. What's even better is the hotel is located right on Franklin Street, near many stores and restaurants. It was very walkable to campus.
This property was great especially if you are visiting UNC or even if your just in the area and you are a HUGE sports fan! I had a King bed room with a balcony which I loved having the balcony to walk out on. The only complaint I had was the bathroom was VERY SMALL!! I couldn't open the door fully because it would hit the toilet.
A unique and lovely stay!!
Love this hotel chain. So fun! Great staff and customer service.
great location - staff were friendly
lots of noise from unsupervised kids playing basketball on the 2nd floor’s playground. The balls are soft but kids were noisy. extremely expensive considering the very noisy aircon, facilities and decor. poor value for money
We loved the theming around hotel and in rooms as UNC alumni. Our grandkids loved the center basketball court! Great folks!
Location, rooms were nice
Having to pay $27 to park in the hotel parking lot per day. Not having a Kerig coffee maker in room or a microwave
Very friendly staff and a uniquely decorated hotel, close to several places to eat and shops for Carolina gear. Within walking distance to the Tarheel Express if you’re going to a basketball game at the Dean Dome. Would definitely stay here again.
Is very nice
What a fun vibe at this hotel. I love the whole college theme and decor. It was retro and funky and brought back memories! Great service.
Staff was disorganized, front desk was helping multiple check ins and others walking up and interrupting with questions all at once with only one attendee. The employees had not been trained in the cafe and were arbitrarily serving some and not others, rude, disheveled and dirty. This is a service industry to service the clientele in a neat, clean and orderly manner. They have missed the mark.
Hotel is a bit dated the fan on the HVAC was very load and good not be turned down on speed. The deck doors leaked a lot of air.
Super clean
Place was nice and so well located downtown. The rooms were OK but the bathroom was small and not well appointed. The room decor was purposely old fashioned. Bed was not super comfortable. I have stayed at other Graduates and this one disappointed slightly. Still a good place to stay if you can get a good rate. The staff were very helpful.
Very nice
Great location, great decor, awesome space. Parking should be included. Would like to have known where the ice machines were located if there even were any. I just went down and got a cup of ice from the bar. Forgot my body ash but would never have used their offerings as the scent was not pleasant at all, would prefer a different brand for the price you pay for the room.
Had a reservation to stay in December for one night. I was coming from Charlotte and realized about 30 mins outside of Chapel Hill that I’d left my wallet in Charlotte . Had my digital wallet, which ended up being all I needed for payment around town for one night. But I only had a picture on my iPhone of my passport. The attendant checking us in at the Graduate said that wouldn’t work. I asked to speak to a manager and he said there was no one else. He said they required a physical picture id. I ended up making a reservation at the Hampton Inn, which was willing to accept the passport picture upon check in. Carolina Inn and Homewood Suites also said passport photo in iPhone was acceptable. I’ve been a Hilton honors diamond or gold member for 25 years and have never been treated so rudely.
Great place to stay on game night!
What a great location and the staff (Cheyenne,David,Maria,Fidel and all the bartenders) are outstanding. Attention to detail is amazing. We on 5th floor with a view of Franklin Street. Loved it. Regular rooms are small but nice patios. Suite was nice and roomy. The kids with the one year old got that! Indoor basketball court with soft and quiet balls was fun. Micheal Jordan's room was cool and very much like his( I have been in his room at Granville Towers since his roommate Jimmy Black and I were friends) in my opinion. Parking was expensive but easy in and out. Food was good. Sad they were out of wings and burgers but sweet potato fries were good.
Loved it! Stayed here while we were getting married locally. Would absolutely stay again.
Loved Loved Loved tnis hotel. Super creative with past graduates and a pendant for do not disturb that says studying. Definitely booking again!
Nice new property, but the bed was terrible.
Super convenient and easy in-out parking
Beautiful decor, like all Graduate hotels. But service left a lot to be desired. No foam pillows, water not filled in the gym, food and drinks took forever to arrive and often cold. Very disappointed in this hotel.
The Graduate Chapel Hill is a very welcoming property where the staff always goes above and beyond to service their guests.
Location and size of room
They never cleaned it despite two in person requests during a three night stay
Check in and checkout were quick and easy.
Cute spot and very convenient location!
Wonderfully situated walking distance to all things UNC and a haven to escape to at night! My bartender was the best for a chat (only 2 of us up late!) after long day of travel and made us feel most welcome, as did the front desk! Love the Graudates!
Beautiful hotel and so dog friendly! The basketball court is hilarious and our dog loved playing with a plush ball. The 5th floor patios (if you pick such a room) are lovely and private as well. And the whole place is beautifully decorated and right in the middle of things, you can walk everywhere. Parking is inside so you won't get wet unloading if it's raining.
1bd was a bit small and only instant coffee in the rooms. No free coffee in the lobby, which for the price would be nice. Parking is pretty pricey for where you are, though secure and in a garage.
