Room was excellent and spacious Parking on site Bar and dinner service
Breakfast let the side down : either a fry-up or toast ! Croissants and other pastries burned to a cinder straight from the kitchen - staff didn't seem to care, and feeble excuse given about the machine used to heat the croissants not working properly. Not good enough for this quality of hotel.
Bed, dinner & breakfast deal was terrific. Location in spacious grounds of university & business park was excellent.
Nothing
room was great dining staff awesome , front of reception aweful
front of house staff member should not be in hospitality, ignored us to start just not the right person for the job
It was all fine but just a bit clinical for the price paid.
I would have preferred to stay in the old building
Young lad at front counter i cant remeber his name was exceptional. Keep up the good work.
Comfy beds and lovely shower. Good breakfast .
Air con noisy if left on.
The staff were lovely and very helpful The location is perfect for Crichton parkrun and Crichton Estate was a delight The room was very comfortable
Staff were excellent and it was a great location. Room was a little dated but we were happy enough with it
Easy to find. Good parking close by.
Staff weren't overly friendly
Location
Too expensive , staff rude
Das Personal war ausgesprochen freundlich und zuvorkommend.
Convenient and attractive location just outside the centre of Dumfries.
Location for us was excellent
No pan au chocolate at breakfast which my grandson was looking forward to!
Hotel staff courteous and friendly Food excellent and great value for money
Nothing to dislike
I loved the location and surroundings.
There was not anything to not like.
We stayed in an executive room which was very comfortable and clean. Staff were all friendly. Breakfast was good. Our hand soap was empty on arrival so asked for that to be filled and for an extra pillow. Both were sorted out quickly. A lovely central location and stunning grounds to go for an early morning walk. Thoroughly recommend.
We have no complaints
The location is beautiful very calm and quiet in the grounds of The Crichton. Rooms comfortable with great beds and fab bedding. Showers powerful and large with a small step up. Food in hotel was good too and staff most helpful.
Leaving 😊
Crichton Estate is a very interesting place. A previous mental hospital with innovative treatments in advance of their time. Red sandstone buildings with a wonderful church. 85 acres of mature parkland all beautifully maintained. The Holiday Inn hides, attached to one of the buildings. So 50/50. 50% modern bedrooms, clean but quite hot as the window is safety locked at 2 inches. Staff are exceptional, friendly, happy to please. The 4/5 is a combination of a 1 hour wait for a steak and salad and the noise from a group of men. They should have been served separately and timings adjusted. Food is 50/50. Some interesting Indian dishes, the Samosa were amazing, the curry less so. The long awaited steak was extremely wel cooked. Rest of menu as per a chain hotel.
Clean and tidy Nice breakfast Close to where we wanted to be
Its location. Just a mile from the centre of town. Hotel looked onto the Crichton church which was lovely
Shampoo, conditioner and soap bottles were empty. The person at reception did not have the best knowledge of the English language. Not great for from of house and asking for information
Lage auf dem Campus!
Great location, with lovely friendly staff who offer outstanding service.
Heat was oppressive at times. Improved air conditioning required.
Location
Very poor check in experience.
In einem tollen Park gelegen.
Character, style, location all good
The rooms are very dated, the bed was awful, the base of bed creaked with every move, the mattress sinked. Poor bed and poor sleep.
Location (in a park) great for the dog. Food also excellent and staff very helpful.
Not much not to like.
Nice location, good food, pretty handy overnight charging, rooms nice. Great park area to walk around.
Beautiful curtains, nice wall treatment, terrible worn smuffy carpet.
The location was nice and peaceful. Air con worked well in the heat.
Lovely location. Perfect for our needs as in the university grounds ahead of our sons graduation
Beautiful building. Lovely mix of old and new.
Nice overnight stay. Ate in restaurant in the evening - nice food reasonably priced - very nice staff. Had an exec room (?) which was big and nice bathroom. Decor a bit old fashioned but lovely massive bed. Very clean - lots of added touches, iron, ironing board, hairdryer, nice toiletries. Lovely Oakland location , handy for Dumfries
Only the breakfast staff
I thought it was dated and smelt
Really impressed by the grounds and facilities. Would definitely stay again!
Even though we'd booked dinner, bed and breakfast there weren't many times available in the restaurant. It would be helpful to know when booking that we needed to book a time in the restaurant.
Room size was good and the bathroom had a seperate bath and shower cubicle. Paid £197 for one night stay which included breakfast and 3 course evening meal for two adults and one child. Paying upfront for the evening meal was worth it because it worked out to £10, pp, where as the 3 course meal is £30pp if you turn up and pay the restaurant separately. Katie, Mary and one other waitress in the restaurant were really nice (missed her name) Damien on reception in the morning was pleasant.
Lady on reception desk was a little miserable (name badge a little obscured so couldn't see it properly) She was eating in the office when we arrived, told us that we needed to go for dinner right away (around 6pm) because at 7pm there were 2 coach loads of people arriving for dinner and it would be too busy. A little irritating because I called the day before to ask if booking was needed and was told no. We went to dump our bags in our room and found it had only been set for 2 people. Just the 2 towels and sofa bed not made up for our daughter. Not a problem as we were going for dinner. I told the reception staff who proceeded to tell me she would do it when she could, she was really busy because she was the only person working and was floating between reception and the restaurant as well as doing all the other things... Not impressed with the attitude. We had room 202 which is labeled as an executive room/suite but unfortunately is right next to the fire exit door and lift area. This means all you can hear is constant banging when people open and close the door both late in the evening (past 11pm) and well before 7am. The food wasn't the best, but for what we paid it was ok. Kids meal was pretty beige. Hugely different to the Chatham/Rochester Hotel we stayed in less than a week earlier. Being the same hotel chain, similar service was expected but this one didn't quite cut it sadly. Room was really tired too and quite a bit of dust in places especially around the sofa bed.
Location
Restaurant and bar slightly more expensive than similar venues
Very nice enjoyable
Staff wonderful. Nice big room and clean
No fridge as room so big it could be accomodated but no big deal
Great location
The kids loved it but wanted a pool or table tennis table! Little bit noisy room to room m. Some rude Scot called our room phone to complain about the noise but we were asleep! Kinda crazy
A friendly, chatty and personable welcome upon arrival. Reason for choosing this place to stay on the Friday night was to run the Crichton Park parkrun in the morning; the start was right outside the back door. Electric fan available in our room as during heatwave. Paper map given to us to help navigate an hours walking route through the extensive grounds of rock garden, rose garden and beyond to the River Nith. Very clean and comfortable bed. Such a good experience, we’ll be back to stay and run the very friendly parkrun again. Flexible late checkout of 12 noon.
Nothing. Good memories.
Emplacement très sympathique, chambre au calme, literie très confortable.
Clean & nice area
One room with broken AC. Very hot day and room steaming hot. No fix after request and no alternative offered
The extraordinary staff . So helpful . Prisca on reception was the most helped receptionist I have come across in many years . She went to enormous trouble to make sure all was fine with my room . The dining room was so busy but the meals were delivered swiftly by great staff who were genial and kind and supremely efficient . The hotel owners should know the ownership team who do not offer complimentary water in standard £140 a night rooms are just mean !! I hope the money saved on the water - which many less expensive hotels provide will go to find staff pay rises .

Superb location for our needs. Grounds amazing for walking around.
The staff are always friendly and welcoming. The staff and service we got in the restaurant were brilliant
Not a thing
Room was spacious, bed was huge and very comfy. Situated in a lovely and interesting location. Breakfast there was a huge variety to choose from, well cooked and tasty. Staff were friendly and good at their job.
Place could do with a bit of refurbishment, flooring coming up in front of the bar/food area. Areas needed a good dusting eg in front of fireplace , lights, ceiling in the bar,
Lovely bedroom. Comfy bed, and good shower
The service was slow in the restaurant and the food/wine left a lot to be desired. Breakfast time meant empty trays at all stations. No glasses for juice, no bread for toast. No pastries or fresh fruit and hot plate was no better! Understand they had a busy room, but 2 staff were unable to keep everything filled. Very disappointing!
Nice location.
I would have liked a safe and fridge in room. The tv was rather small. I don’t think the service in the restaurant was super special although the supervisor did sort it out. No tomato juice at the bar. The check out was very good. Excellent front desk gentleman.
Breakfast, quiet room
Overpowering air freshener in reception and hall
Room was immaculate and very comfortable. Excellent shower. Restaurant food was amazing.
Bedroom door didn't lock
Staff so helpful and friendly. From Becca, the co ordinator to John , the restaurant manager and all the staff. Breakfast was fantastic, a full Scottish, fresh melon, yogurt, whatever you required. The evening meal was great, plenty of choice. Bed so comfortable. Wonderful stay. Will be coming again!
Perfect dinner and breakfast, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was spacious, bathroom was clean. I enjoyed my stay.
Good bed factory type hotel. Great restaurant, good food. Really good friendly staff.
Very pleasant
The breakfast was lovely. The location is superb. Check in was smooth and helpful. Staff was very friendly and above and beyond.
Staff were fantastic, breakfast amazing selection and dinner was good. Bed was comfortable and room was huge.
Shower had quite a high step up to get into it and no grab rails to help which was an issue as we both have mobility issues.
I stayed at the IHG Dumfries for three nights with a client I was assisting on holiday. Very comfortable and spacious, spacious well - equipped rooms in a handsome red sandstone building set in beautiful grounds. The quality of the food was superb and we dined there for 3 nights. Exceptional satanfard and great service. The staff team were fantastic, very friendly and welcoming and always willing to help. I had to visit A+E in my third day and the staff team looked after my client wonderfully well until I returned. Special thanks to Katie and Keana on reception who looked after my client so well, to JD, Peter, Nicholas, Salvio and Martina at the excellent bar and restaurant, wonderful service. Also to James for the wake up call!. Wonderful 10/10 experience!
Great hotel in lovely surroundings . Staff very attentive and looked after us well. Breakfast was really good and would highly recommend as a base to explore Dumfriesshire and beyond.
Customer service was excellent; dinner was exceptional value & good quality on the DBB rate paid
No gym : would be a nice addition after all this was a Holiday Inn not express
A old house with a modern annex set in the grounds of the Crichton estate, which has its own church. Unfortunately only used for weddings and a scheduled service as indicated. Staff courteous and helpful, food hot and substantial.
The picture of the main building was an empty shell. Only the main floor was in use for the restaurant and bar. The top 2 floor are not in use. Although the staff advised they are renovating the first floor and then the 2nd and 3rd. The actual hotel is built into the back of the building. It is standard modern room with no complaints but the outside of this building clashes with the historic look of the main building. Staff was friendly. The hotel is out of the way most guest seemed to be golfers as there is a golf club across the road.
Some biscuits in room along with coffee/tea etc.... Tables in dining area felt a bit too close together….
Good location.
We arrived and was given room number 7, which was very nice but the aerial on the tv wasn’t working so was moved to number 15 which was not as nice.
Great location. Set in beautiful surroundings
Front desk was frustratingly almost always not staffed. Especially on check out day
Although not an accessible room the ground floor room was okay for a wheelchair user with minimal assistance. Just one step at the front door which we used a threshold ramp for.
Rooms very comfortable. Lounge, bar and restaurant good. Food choice and quality excellent for the price point.
Hotel, staff were excellent
Nothing not to dislike
clean and tidy
some of the staff were not particularly friendly. Having driven nearly 6 hours all you want is a smile and a friendly welcome but the lady on reception was not very welcoming and not very friendly. The waitress and waiter in the restaurant was great though.
Possibly the best Holiday Inn I've stayed in. Excellent attentive staff.
Only one slight downfall and that the bed I slept on, the mattress sighed at my head so I felt like I was sleeping downhill. I had to top and tail with my partner.
Welcming
Nothing
Lovely location, meal and upgraded room.
N/A
The location is stunning. The dining room staff were exceptional The food was amazing.
I booked a twin room for my brother and sister who were coming from London for a funeral. I went to the hotel the day before to make sure it was a twin room and there was a lift as my sister has COPD. The man on reception on the afternoon of Sunday the 24th of May came across as disinterested. We were eventually assured it would be a room with twin beds. When we were checking them in on Monday the 25th of May, the same staff member booked them in at reception. When they got to the room it was a double bed. I went down and explained he appeared not to remember our conversation the day before, then saw there were notes of it on the database that he had made and blamed housekeeping. He told us he would have it sorted by the time they came back that night. The beds were never separated for the 3 nights of their stay. It was not ideal for them to share a double bed and the high temperatures we experienced during their stay made it an even more uncomfortable situation. Due to our bereaved state we simply did not feel able to keep asking for it to be sorted. Very disappointed in that aspect of their stay. The dining room and bar staff were amazing. The restaurant food was brilliant as well. Stunning location.
Good location for attending events across the street.
Room was well appointed spacious, great amenities. Wonderful view of the Crichton Gardens. Staff were helpful and friendly and the room kept clean and well stocked
Bed was very spacious but way too soft for us, you did sink down a fair bit.
Location location
Nothing, but with two pets i would have preferred to be on the ground floor, not the first ….
Location and refurbished room . Lovely breakfast!
Nothing
Nice and friendly personnel
Breakfast's choice
Great staff, especially at breakfast.
Breakfast was great, plenty of choice and everything was "hot". The environment within and external was pleasing, enabling an afternoon or evening walk , in relaxing surroundings. It was a quiet location, so a good nights sleep was had by all.
Signage to get into the car park - it wasn't clear, causing a trip around the campus attached, and a five minute delay to arrival time. Otherwise nothing to mention.
Lovely staff easy parking and clean!
Nothing! Exactly what I would expect.
Everything was clean and tidy
Expensive for what it was, also wanted an extra £20 for breakfast, usually included when room price was £130
Great location in the greenery of the campus. Breakfast was good with lots of options.
The communal areas were very warm in the sunshine and the building itself is in need of some renovation.
fantastic breakfast and and dinner John who looked after the restaurant was brilliant. the grounds were wonderful. also the lady on reception was really good and very helpful I think her name was Rhiannon.
Hotel in a lovely location. Rooms clean and comfortable. Breakfast was a bit poor, table cleaning service was slow, multiple items missing from hot buffet counter, just empty serving dishes. Gentleman on reception was very abrasive, you seemed to be an inconvenience for checking in or out, other guests we met also commented on his manner.
Location great. Food standard you would have expected
Parking o.k ex ept foe vehicle parking right outside one entrance. Made it difficult to access hotel after attending event there for.
Location perfect for music venue we attended
Location was excellent
Wifi and Phone signal was poor
Amazing location, beautiful grounds and perfect for dogs
The check in reception guy was extremely rude, he ruined our initial experience, was incompetent, couldn’t find our booking and was generally really unpleasant. He didn’t apologise when he then found our booking. Despite this the other staff could not have been more helpful, just a shame you had such a rude person on reception
Bed was a good size and that the staff was very friendly
That there are no plug sockets near the bed. The tv doesnt work unless the wifi connection has a good strength and tv needs to come with instructions.
Room was clean. Public areas clean and tidy. Restaurant staff very pleasant. Beautiful grounds to sit in
More of a critique than a dislike. Would like to see complementary biscuits/snacks in the room to have with tea and coffee. A choice of eggs at breakfast as not everyone likes/wants fried or boiled eggs
La location
La reception e la hall per ricevere gli ospiti
Clean and happy staff
Nothing all good
Good location, pleasant staff and Restuarant staff especially good.
It had been very sunny day and my room was south facing. With double glazing and no window open the room temperature the room temperature was about 26c and the air conditioning unit did not work as I found out after I returned to the room after a lengthy dinner. Having left a card in the power slot as you enter the room to ensure power was on it was clear the air conditioning unit was not cooling the room merely recirculating hot air.
None of the above could be faulted.
I have no negative views at all.
Excellent food and service. Accommodated our dog with no problems.
WiFi was very spasmodic and unreliable.
