Central location and decent sized room.
The fact that we had to pay a £50 damages deposit and it didn’t mention anything on the booking about this. Had we known, we wouldn’t have bothered booking.
Staff are always welcoming
Good room and service
Comfortable, good location
The wrong was wonky and had a weird smell.
The location was perfect for the purpose of our stay . There was convenient parking
Bed was too small, room was huge and could easily have accommodated a decent sized bed. No fridge. Bulky air conditioner in middle of room, when enough room to put to side, fan - likewise, both spoiled the aesthetic of the room. The receptionist was pleasant but spoke very fast, as though in a rush to get somewhere else. No drinking water or glasses in room, and one biscuit pack for two people, no tea just coffee and UHT milk. For cost not impressed. Another hotel option was a lot cheaper and, from experience, better facilities…went for here due to parking availability, but with additional parking costs would choose other hotel in future
I didn’t actually stay at the Hotel Cromwell. When I arrived it became clear that there was a very noisy festival going on, so I opted to drive back home to London instead. The hotel very kindly didn’t charge me for my (non-)stay. I very much appreciated this, hence the high scores. The hotel looked excellent from what I had time to see!
If you are thinking of having your wedding here- do it! Firstly, I want to thank Paul- from the beginning you have been so helpful with planning our special day. You took us through every step and kept us updated along the way. From the initial meeting to the menu tasting, we couldn't fault a thing. Thank you 🩷 Secondly, I'd like to thank Megan. She helped us so much on the actual day, more than she probably realises. Everything was taken care of and she was a pleasure to be around. Anything we asked for, she was just willing to help and we didn't have to worry about a thing. Everyone commented how lovely Megan was. They both work so, so hard and it didn't go unnoticed! There was also a young man, who was there on the day, who was also so amazing, unfortunately I don't know his name, but would like to thank you to him too. Additionally, the room, breakfast, dinner the night before, little touches: like the gift in our room, all just added to the amazing experience! From the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank you all SO much! We wish we could do this day all again. Love Mr & Mrs Atkinson
We got married here on Saturday and I couldn’t be happier with our experience. From start to finish the team have been incredible. We had the most perfect day thanks to them, nothing was too much for them. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting a beautiful wedding at an actual reasonable price!
We had a family room which was very nicely appointed. The hotel has a antique/boutique feel to it throughout and decor was very nice. The beds were comfy, the bathroom was nice with a good strong shower. The rooms don’t have aircon, but they do have aircon units which were very welcome. The breakfast was especially good, one of the best that I’ve experienced. We would very much like to return.
We had our Wedding at hotel cromwell and it was absolutely perfect here are some things they did/ have included in their package that made our day so special - Our meetings with Lina, Megan and Alfie before/during the wedding were brilliant, they listened to all of our concerns and questions and had an answer for it all! - Everything was seamless, i didnt need to worry to ask for a thing. before i could even think about it, it was done, whether that was bringing us pastries to the room in the morning or moving decorations. - the whole day was expertly handled down to the music, drinks food and schedule. the staff paid extreme attention to detail - the food was smashing - we had some picky eaters and vegans and they all enjoyed the food - they are so accomodating with the extra little bits for example: bringing me an extra free post ceremony drink when mine went warm in the sun or catering to our favourite sandwich filling for the evening buffet - I created all the decorations myself and the staff were brilliant in helping set these up/ and move them on the day. i was so nervous about this part but they did it without me even noticing. They took this job very seriously and i was so grateful to see how amazing it all looked. They even help set up a dessert table that we provided! Overall, id give them 11/10 if i could. The ceremony, the garden with all the furtinture laid out as well as the dining room/dance room were just amazing and i wouldnt have changed a thing.
We honestly couldn’t have asked for a more perfect place to get married. From the moment we started planning, right through to the wedding day itself, the team at Hotel Cromwell were absolutely incredible. Lina was amazing throughout the build-up, always keeping me calm, answering every question (including the ones I probably didn’t need to ask!) and making me feel completely reassured. Then, on the day, Megan was simply outstanding. I genuinely cannot sing her praises highly enough. She was attentive, kind, professional and somehow seemed to be on top of absolutely everything — including things I hadn’t even thought about! The whole team were superb. Their service was impeccable, and I felt so relaxed on the day because I knew everything was being taken care of. They really did make me feel like royalty, and that is something I’ll never forget. 👑 The food was incredible too. Everything was beautifully presented, piping hot and absolutely delicious, and all of our guests commented on how much they loved it. The drinks were flowing all day and were equally fantastic! 🥂 The bridal suite was another highlight. Having it the night before and the night of the wedding made the whole experience feel even more special, and it was absolutely beautiful. The garden was also set up perfectly and exactly how I had imagined it. Even now, after talking with my husband and our families, we’re all still so chuffed with how amazing the day was. Everything was just so well organised, professional and genuinely special. I honestly don’t think I can put into words just how brilliant the whole experience was. A huge thank you to everyone at Hotel Cromwell for helping make our wedding day everything we dreamed it would be. ❤️ We would **100% recommend Hotel Cromwell** to any couple looking for a wedding venue that is professional, attentive, beautiful and truly goes above and beyond. You will be in the best hands! ✨💍
Lovely hotel.
Needed air conditioning due to the now hot British weather.
Everything was amazing 🤩 Thank you so much ☺️
Spacious room and comfortable bed.
Loud noise from the road outside late into the night with cars screeching not the hotels fault but awful and didn’t feel safe lots of strange people hanging around. When I arrived there was no fan in the room it was boiling. I hardly slept even though I did get a fan - it was useless in such extreme heat. I know it’s a listed building but in the heat not somewhere I would recommend to stay overnight Long walk with bags from car park into the hotel and stairs and no lift help was given to take bags up but no one around to help me bring them down.
The staff at the desk were lovely.
It was far too hot and we had to leave as the room was like a sauna.
Our family and friends enjoyed a wonderful stay for our wedding. The bar, reception and restaurant teams all delivered exceptional customer service. The rooms were comfortable and very good value, and the breakfast buffet offered a wide range of options. The restaurant also provided plenty of meal choices for anyone wishing to dine in. Great location for High Street
We spent 2 nights at the Cromwell in a downstairs executive room. The staff here were so lovely, what a credit to the hotel. Our room opened on to the carpark which was perfect as we had our little dog with us. The room was 309, very comfortable with plenty of space. The weather was hot but we were supplied with a powerful fan which kept the room cool, plus we could open the door to let the cooler air in occasionally. There was a wedding and a festival the next day, all the employees were very busy but still managed to pull off exceptional service 🤗 The hotel has a great vibe, it is both traditional and cozy. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you! Caroline
Had our wedding here in August 2026, cannot rate them highly enough, a lively venue made all the more special by such a wonderful team, not just the events team but all of the hotel staff were exceptional
The location is second to none in Poole. We had one of the best rooms and the view was great. One member of staff helped when we received the wrong dinner order (offered to remove the 'service charge'!!), the previous two just disappeared after we said the order was wrong.
Absolutely useless (actually dangerous) for anyone with a disability. A few ramps on the stairs would help. Its a diingy run down hotel. Staff, except one, were uninterested. Food expensive and greasy spoon standard. Room had one tiny shampoo and body wash - enough for one person for one shower (take a bar of soap!). Disappointed.
The room was very spacious and comfortable. The staff were very helpful and accomodating.
The restaurant closed early on a Sunday
Room was OK, shower very good, plenty of pressure which is unusual in hotels these days, USB ports in some of the tickets was also useful
Room was crazy hot, admittedly 28C outside, but couldn't open windows more than a crack and the cooler didn't work properly. Duvet so thick it would have kept an eskimo warm. Also, room wasn't serviced so no milk or coffee on second morning, and no fridge in room...

Simply perfect!
All good.
It is a charming place, with nicely decorate rooms. In these summer days, the terrance on the front is a nice place to enjoy a drink while enjoying the cool air of the sun sunset.
I visit this hotel regularly through the year and I usually enjoy my staying. However, the Cromwell hotel is not a place I recommend during the warm part of the year (anything above 24C), even more so during the recent heat wave (+30C). The way the rooms are built, tends to trap in heat and keep it through the night, when the temperature dropped. The windows cannot be open for more than a few inches because of some block. In many rooms the only relief is given a small electric fan. When I stayed here my previous time I was forced to change room at my on expense, regardless of the unbearable conditions (very small room, window partially blocked, opening on the hotel AC units). This time I found in my room a portable AC unit, unfortunately broken because it was misused previously. The staff was not very helpful in this instance.
The location
No aircon Small size of the room
Not great we should have learnt our lesson the last time we stayed a year ago. The rooms are fine although no air conditioning. Customer care is significantly lacking resulting in a poor experience . Staff don’t smile are not helpful or welcoming. Need some real training. No attention to detail, running out of hot food at 9.45 when breakfast was till 10am to be told all it’s late so we are runnng it down. Had to ask and wait for milk, sugar, no checks on how things are. Won’t return or recommend.
Old style, classic
Small room, no airco, windows not opening, for a 4 stars missing a lot of things including the cleaning is done only 2days. Absolutely not a 4 star hotel.
Was a great central location for visiting the music festival.
too pricey
room very stuffy
The place is situated outside the town center, but it is positioned near a lot of stores. The place is a historic building, so there are NO elevators or air conditioning. There is a humidifying fan in my room, which doesn't really cool the room down. In addition, the room is rather dark with no ceiling lighting.
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was spotless. The hotel was in a great locatoon. We had everything needed for z great stay. Will ddfinately stzy here again.
Perfect cute place! Amazing location! Great pub and restaurant attached to the hotel. Great breakfast.
No AC……..
The bed was very comfortable , decor tasteful and the room and en suite were very clean. Had a light salad for eve meal very nice indeed. Staff in dining room were attentive and efficient
It was a very long walk to the room and back to the foyer/dining room. It was not made clear on the booking that there was no air conditioning so we only found out on arrival.....it was a extreme heatwave conditions and we just had a fan for the bedroom so this made sleeping very uncomfortable I only slept for about 2 hours. Breakfast was awful, all of the English breakfast food was stone cold at the buffet counter, no fried eggs available only cold scrambled egg! not what we were expecting for the price of the stay. We invited family to join us for breakfast and frankly were embarressed and paid for it ourselves to apologize
Staff we're very good
No Air con. Very poor in a hotel. I travel for work. And have never stayed in a major hotel without aircon. Its pretty standard now. They should invest. With windows that hardly open. The room was unbearable. I has considered leaving and booking somewhere else but due to a local event everywhere was booked.
The room was clean and the breakfast was really delicious.
There was no aircon in the room and we were in the middle of the heat wave
Near venue I was attending
No air con , no fan in room , had to ask , no modern plug points for just usb etc. shower head so high it toppled off , thankfully didn’t hit my feet, pressure was very good though , thought housekeeper should have checked the toilet as there was poo still there ! Went to breakfast as already paid for it , but upon looking at the underdone sausages and bacon , I decided against it , I have not received a refund for this .
Staff welcoming, very clean, lots of charging points, powerful shower
Too hot - not the properties fault - they had a portable air conditioner in the room going full on, but I visited at the end of a crazy heatwave so I guess the heat had built up during the week.
Breakfast absolutely first class
Nothing worth mentioning

Lo staff molto bravo, posizione fantastico. Il letto più comodo
Ho avuto problemi faccendo la doccia, ci vorebbe qualcosa di sostegno per uscire, per fortuna c'era mio marito. Rischiavo di svivolare/cadere.l
Good parking and well located. This was our third stay.
We recently had our wedding at the Cromwell Hotel, and they made the whole day run so smoothly. A huge thank you to Paul and Jamie-Lee for all their hard work. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and they handled our last-minute changes brilliantly. Their professionalism and support helped make our day perfect. We couldn’t have asked for a better venue or team. Highly recommended!
Location, staff
Room was never cleaned, we extended our stay by one night to arrive a day earlier but we did this direct with the Hotel because I contacted Booking.com and did not get a response. Our room was never cleaned in the three nights that we were there and we did not get any tea coffee milk toilet roll replenished
The hotel it very sweet and beautifully done, unfortunately that is made completely irrelevant by that fact that sleeping in this hotel is completely impossible! It is directly opposite a nightclub open until 3am! The hotel clearly had no sound proofing as it literally sounds like you are in the nightclub! You can also hear every word spoken by the large groups of people outside the club smoking. This only gets worse after the club closes at 3am when for an hour you have to sit awake listening to 100s of people try to drunkenly navigate themselves out of the club and home having plenty of arguments as they do so.

We cannot thank the Events Team at Hotel Cromwell enough for everything they did to make our wedding day so special. From our very first meeting through to the big day itself, the level of professionalism, organisation, and genuine care was outstanding. A special mention must go to Megan and Paul, who were absolutely incredible throughout the entire process. Their attention to detail, guidance, and reassurance made planning our wedding so much easier and far less stressful. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and they always went above and beyond to ensure every aspect of the day ran smoothly. On the wedding day itself, everything was perfectly coordinated, allowing us to relax and enjoy every moment with our family and friends. Megan and Paul worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure everything was exactly as we had hoped, and their dedication truly helped create a day that exceeded all our expectations. We received so many compliments from our guests about the venue, the organisation, and the overall experience. We are incredibly grateful to Megan, Paul, and the entire Hotel Cromwell Events Team for helping us create memories that will last a lifetime. We would highly recommend Hotel Cromwell to anyone considering it for their wedding or special event. Thank you again for making our day so brilliant and unforgettable.
What a lovely hotel very impressive in a beautiful location. Special thanks to Andy who is a very nice welcoming hard working man.
How clean it was
Nothing
Lovely modern hotel, great large clean room with epic shower and comfy bed. Nice outside seating for drinks in the sun.
Nothing
The staff were exceptional. So helpful, polite & understanding.
Having a winter duvet in a hotel room during a heatwave is not ideal. It would be a good idea for to have a choice of bedding options.
Stayed for one night at the end of May 2026 en route to Towcester. (Executive double £150 BnB including car parking). Firstly, the hotel is deceptively large - looks pretty big anyway from the front - but the true vastness of the place is evident from the car park at the rear. On the subject of car parking, when I looked on google map it looks like you can drive in from the front of the hotel however it looks like they're having an addition built which means you can't. It's the next road, if driving from the North, on the left that takes you to the well signposted rear car park entrance. At the moment, I assume this will change when the building work is finished, you have to take your cases etc from the car park right round the outside of the building to get to the hotel entrance. Not a major issue - but it could be improved if there was a rear entrance to the hotel. The room itself was good. Large, with a view over the rear beer garden and car park. A couple of easy chairs and a desk chair. Plenty of power sockets (on each side of the bed) and a few more scattered around. An excellent powerful shower in the large bathroom. The whole place was very clean and fully stocked will all that you need. We were not disturbed by any noise at all - which considering it was a baking hot Saturday night at the end of half term was pretty good. Breakfast was a buffet style one - which was OK, although maybe it could have been kept a bit hotter. The only minor issue we had was with the WiFi - the one we were told to use didn't work which the very helpful young lass on reception assisted with by giving us another one to sign into - sadly that didn't work the next day. Not a deal breaker - just a mild irritation. The high street in Stevenage itself where the hotel is located has a load of shops, cafes and pubs to keep you going and the ones we went in were all pretty good. When we visited the high street was closed off halfway down meaning there was very little traffic - that may be different when it reopens. All in all - very good. I'd stay there again.
The room was nice and as described and the bathroom was very lovely.
They upped the price to 185 as they knew it was a festival day, which I guess is normal but for the size of the room it wasn't reasonable. It was also extremely hot with no air con and just a very old and slow fan which made no difference, hence I did not get much sleep.
I stayed here, prior to a trip into London, to visit Wembley for the Hull v Middlesbro play-off final game. On arrival there was only one person on the reception and she was on the phone taking an enquiry, therefore it was around ten minutes before she could look after me. Not a problem, but it could be for some guests. The car park was at the rear of the hotel. In the on-line photographs there is a drive through at the front to get into the car park. This gate was closed, therefore I had to ask for directions in order to park. Luckily for me, there was a couple of free parking spaces. The paperwork said: 'Superior Single'. To be fair, there wasn't much superior about it. Just a bog-standard single room. What spoiled it for me was the poor sleep quality due to the incessant sound of a blowing A/C unit which at midnight sounded very loud. Almost like a faulty cistern in the room above. I had to sleep with a pillow over my head, which wasn't comfortable. Other than that. No other complaints. The hotel is on the High Street right in the busy old town area, which has plenty of pubs within a one hundred yards walking distance and a few pleasant looking eateries. The railway station is about 30 mins walk at a leisurely pace. The locals seemed quite friendly and approachable. The breakfast on both mornings of my stay was good. Plenty of eat and plenty of room in the restaurant. Would I stay here again? Not sure to be honest. Value for money. For what I paid, it was about right....Neil, HU7
The Hotel is a beautiful elegant space where you feel special. Customer service is second to none, nothing is too much trouble for the friendly team. Bedrooms are also beautiful and comfortable. A mix of historic and new works so well.
The atmosphere.
The faucet. In understand the retro style, but I would replace the double tap for a combined one.
Great customer service - when we arrived, our room had a broken window and the manager immediately moved our room without any question and even upgraded us to a suite, which I did appreciate. The hotel also looks like the pictures.
I didnt like the fact the initial room had a broken window. Also the bed was on the small side. There is also a bit of noise from the high st bars at night, but not too bad.
The Initial room we were offered was not to our liking so the Housekeeping Manager showed a quieter large ground floor room as he was working that way in a quieter area of the hotel which was perfect which also had a separate rear access to the carpark. Bed was comfortable, we stayed for brunch in the morning which was spot on as was the staff.
A very comfortable well appointed room with a bath. Are very busy bar area which the locals use
Lovely room, comfortable bed, nice bathroom
It's like a maze finding your room, which is a pain when you've got luggage! Hallways/rooms also very warm.
Excellent value for money
Nothing
Great location with parking
Booked 2 rooms for 2 nights . 1st room wasn’t set up bed made and clean but only 1 set of towels . Condiments not full . On the second night no one attended the room in the day - not expectable seeing as the room was £120 a night
Room and bed excellent
Hotel is a ‘bit tired’ but likely to be the best option in Stevenage Old Town. Clearly popular though with very regular wedding receptions. The staff are all very obliging, the cooked breakfast options only average with continental sections ok and what you expect these days. Disappointed with the size of the room, size of bed and comfort of mattress as we went for the higher option, not ‘pristine’ by any stretch of the imagination, like the hotel itself. The town centre location is excellent (not the run down town centre though!) and ample car parking a bonus, especially with a wedding taking place. Overall we were happy despite threes comments.
See above.
All of it. I have stayed here many times and the stay is always exeptional.
Great place for the party in the evening.
Nothing
Room was very small, the mattress extremely soft and the room itself had no air. It was very hot .. had to have a window open all night but still extremely hot. There was a fan there but just blew about the hot air, so not much sleeping took place due to how uncomfortable the room was.
Air con.
Meals were well organised and staffed. Very good food choices. We found a nice quiet walk called The Avenue, minutes from the hotel.
We had quite a few steps to get to our room but someone has to be on top floor! No lift. Had to walk to hotel reception from car park at the back, no rear access.
Location was perfect
Very uncomfortable bed with the worst pillows
Great staff, clean room and great location
The room was really hot, which made it very uncomfortable, we opened the windows and was kept awake with the air conditioning and lots of noise outside, so had very little sleep around 2 hours. We have stayed at The Cromwell many times with no problems but not this time, we will make sure we ask for a different room next time
Breakfast and location good
Long walk to room
Wasn't told beforehand they had work going in the carpark. Only 1 set of towels, loud noise all night from refrigeration units on the cellar & had to pay a £50 deposit on arrival as booked through booking.com
Location
Car park overcrowding
Great location, clean and comfortable rooms. Reception staff very friendly and helpful
A few, minor, issues in the room, quickly remedied by the hotel though
Great location and food and service in restaurant exceptional.
Parking at back and walk round with bags. We booked a superior double bit the bed was no way a kingsize.
A great place for our Golden Wedding celebration with family and friends. Staff were thoughtful and adaptable to our needs. Guests commented on the lovely atmosphere and comfortable rooms. Efficient and professional organisation of event. Convenient parking.
Food was amazing
Amazing stay here! loved it and cant wait to stay here again
It is the most decent hotel in Stevenage but could use some updating.
Being put in a room so far from the entrance.
Beautiful clean room, great size and £10 for doggy was great value. Restaurant was lovely.
Nothing
I recently had my 30th Birthday party at The Cromwell. From start to finish Paul was amazing and couldn’t have been more helpful. Everything was perfect and couldn’t have asked for more. The food was really good and all staff couldn’t have done more. Thanks Paul and Team!
Location is excellent for Old Town Stevenage. Room was clean and comfortable. Friendly and helpful staff.
Prices high for 3 star hotel, (particularly mid week), leads to greater expectations. Shabby decor in entrance/reception area and dissapointing to have smokers collecting just outside the main entrance.
Check-in staff member was very helpful and the room was very nice apart from the four foot bed, which is a little small for 2 adults. Breakfast was mediocre as the cold selection was poor and the hot food wasn’t well stocked.
Exceptional bar staff, very nice room, will return
The decor is beautiful and they have done a really good job of keeping it in line with its original look and feel with modern touches.
My room wasn’t cleaned for the entirety of my stay (3 nights). On my last day I put the door sign on and went out all morning until 1.30pm and the room still hadn’t been cleaned. When I asked about it at reception I was made to feel that it was my fault and I should have been aware they only service the room every two days. I was then told that maybe the housekeeping staff didn’t want to disturb me which is a ridiculous excuse as I had put the sign on the door. I was made to feel that they would be doing me a favour if the cleaning staff were able to pop by my room and even suggested I may have to pay an additional fee for this service. I couldn’t believe the terrible customer service and lack of cleaning as this accommodation isn’t cheap and I would have an expectation that they would at least empty the bins. Staff eventually did come at 3pm and did the bare minimum by taking rubbish and leaving some toilet roll. I stayed here with my 8 month old and I wouldn’t stay again. It’s a beautiful place but the lack of customer service and the rude, dismissive staff is its downfall.
