Ev charging, gardens, layout of accommodation, bar and restaurant
Not enough staff to cope with ordinary guests and coach parties staying. Arrangements for breakfast were shambolic for flow and replenishing of food.
Staff very friendly, location nice and quiet, room basic, but clean, good tea and coffee, great bathroom, fan in room (was very hot) great stopover for cruising from Southampton.
Parking spaces filled up quickly, but we managed to find something. We didn't eat at hotel, was didn't fancy anything on menu (limited) but be aware, everything shuts down early in area for food!
Breakfast was lovely even though we were told wrong time they finish serving but they still let us in and didn't rush us.
Bar ti open later as wasn't busy they closed the bar.

bar, food, rooms
Great location for Southampton pre cruise Nice & quiet Relaxed atmosphere Good food Original building and gardens are beautiful
Rooms were remote from hotel and more chalet style but still comfortable. Might not have appreciated that in the winter
Lovely hotel great staff especially Isie & Sarah not sure if that’s her name she was dressed all in black & in charge on Sunday evening. Both great customer service thank you.
My meal was burnt & potatoes were cold it should never have been sent out from the Kitchen however the lovely lady in charge explained the head chef was off. She would report it back to him and took the price of my meal off the bill. She couldn’t have been nicer so it would not put us off of eating there again. My husband‘s meal was quite nice.. Also no slimline tonic this needs addressing never been to a hotel who doesn’t supply light tonics!!!
The location is very good and the grounds are wonderful for walking in. The swimming is large for a hotel pool and clean. The breakfasts were always well cooked with plenty of choices.
We had a very disappointing meal in the hotel bar, we cannot comment on the restaurant, as we brought a dog, and therefore were confined to the bar area.
Room was ok and basic...Food in restaurant expensive for what it was
Dining facilities were not brilliant
Ligging, uitstraling.
Kamer en badkamer waren gedateerd, geen airconditioning.
Great value comfortable room
Corridors and stairways could do with some decoration
Pretty grounds
This is a quality place. All comfortable and good food with glorious grounds and facilities. Staff were great but far too busy
Far too busy with weddings and conferences to get any meaningful space or attention. Not a problem as this is their declared business but not an ideal venue for a couple or small group with a minute bar and staff focussing on large number groups. Not a parking space in sight!
The room had everything in I needed and I used the fitness room which had everything I needed. Breakfast had a good range of items.
The rooms are tired in places.
Location Restrauint
Room was dated ,/ scruffy / small
Beautiful grounds, clean and cosy rooms, great pool, sauna and jacuzzi
I would much prefer to be able to easily choose a room with a bath
Ok for an overnight stay.
See above
New place is in a beautiful location. Great walks from the hotel. Gym/pool facilities a bonus but a little grubby (sauna and shower area not great). I stayed in a dog friendly double. Room is ok but tired looking. Everything was clean though and the staff are always very friendly and efficient.
Room a little tired.
Setting was pleasant
Breakfast was diabolical.staff shortages and staff unhelpful and at times quite rude
Ease of use. Breakfast was nice and efficient with our server who seated us nice and accommodating. Pool and Sauna was nice.
Arrived an hour early and the first woman who greeted us at reception was rather blunt and rude. Our room lacked attention, with the general upkeep being poor with cracks in walls and we found 2 hairs in the bed. It was rather warm, so we decided to use the fan out of the cupboard, but this was covered in dust and hadn't been cleaned in weeks. We removed all the dust and could have made a tennis ball sized ball from the amount we took off. The Pool and sauna were nice, but the Hot Tub wasn't working, and doing 'essential' cleaning on Bank Holiday Monday probably wasn't the smartest of ideas!
Location suited us
Some areas could be a bit cleaner
The grounds and hotel are beautiful. The location to southampton is excellent. Well worth staying here for cruise port.
I didnt request an accessible room as husband is able to walk a little. However I did mention at the time of booking that he uses a mobility scooter yet the room we were allocated was via a large step with no ramp. It wasn't worth the hassle to change for one night but perhaps it should of been picked up by staff beforehand. Just a little niggle but otherwise we enjoyed our stay.
Gorgeous Manor House, we met some local friends for a drink in the bar and they were amazed they’d never been before!
The heat in our non air conditioned room - we were above the spa area and it was stifling - there was a fan provided but it just moved the warm air around
The room was really hot and no fan or air con. The window was very small so even when open didn’t help at the heat. The carpet in the hallway leading to the room was dirty. The sauna was not heated in the morning. Nice food and swimming pool
The location
The hest in the room, it was ridiculous!!!!
Lovely welcome by staff. Leisure centre staff and bar staff good also.
A beautiful property, with aesthetically pleading additions to the original house providing the bedroom accommodation. The bedroom we stayed in was comfortable and clean, if a little tired decoration wise. It proved absolutely what was needed for our stay. The breakfast buffet was superb. The staff in the restaurant were really well organised and on top of their jobs, keeping tables reset and laid, clearing where required, topping up the extensive selection on the hot and cold buffet. There was a good range of cold buffet items - cereals, fruit, muffins, crumpets, French pastries. The hot 'English' breakfast buffet was excellent, with a good selection of items cooked freshly and of good quality. Every member of staff we met through the weekend was very polite and helpful, being cheerful with positive attitudes (but not OTT!) A most enjoyable stay and one we would repeat.
Beautiful hotel, lovely rural location, facilities were great.
Bed wasn’t very comfortable, a lot of TLC is needed for parts of the room and the hallway in the block we stayed in as we noticed unfinished paint work, marks all over the walls and doors that had chips in them.
Breakfast was great
Dinner was overly priced for the quantity of food, especially starters which were ridiculously small
The room was spotlessly clean and the amount of plug sockets was very impressive! Reception and breakfast room staff were very friendly and helpful
Lovely accommodation, walls between bedrooms a but thin so could hear some unsavoury noises from adjoining room, which was embarrassing. Facilities good
Strange noises from the room next door
Phone not working.
Garden and patio area
Poor quality coffee sachets , lack of variety of tea bags . People in very close proximity outside our bedroom window .
Beautiful house and surroundings with good facilities. Very relaxing stay.
Fantastic location. Lovely building and gardens. Restaurant good. Staff friendly.
Swim and gym area underground no natural light. Basic decor.
Breakfast was lovely but the staff seemed not very helpful. Only at breakfast! The rest of the staff were lovely the rest of the day. Breakfast staff we're slightly unhelpful and disinterested.
Breakfast staff need to be more welcoming
The location was great. Lovely surroundings and grounds. Beautiful old building.
The rooms were a little tired and our room could have done with a lick of paint.
The room was too hot with no way of opening the window without it being completely unlocked and so room could not be secured. I appreciate it was very hot but you should have a method of opening the window and still keeping it secure. This was apparently an upgrade so I cant imagine what we upgraded from. Breakfast was also very poor for a hotel of this size.
Lovely building and grounds. Interesting rooms.
The staff varied from very friendly and knowledgeable to, well not so much. Had to tell them that the error messages on the coffee machines meant empty the grounds, empty the drip tray and add more beans, otherwise they'd just have kept flashing out of order. Not too professional. Reception staff were great though.
Ideal location, very comfortable room, helpful and friendly staff. Would stay again
Nichts
Staff are super, friendly and very helpful. L
Room was cramped, single chair for a double room, nowhere comfortable to sit.
Location
Could upgrade breakfast.. Had to pay extra to upgrade as room had no air and restricted opening window, too hot. Once upgraded to ground floor had to report broken shower, and broken toilet seat fixings which they did sort out.
Everything
N/A
The location, the nature, peace around
No fridge in the room, no air-conditioning, no toilet brush
Dog friendly. Spacious clean room with comfy bed and good shower. Breakfast was standard British breakfast so could choose want you want. Grounds great to walk dogs, and have a drink and meal outside. Bar food was good, with last orders for the kitchen at 21:30. Staff all very efficient and friendly. Good location for getting off ferry and staying a night with dogs before heading home up north.
Breakfast could provide more vegetarian options and better quality bread. Food in restaurant although good and well presented, portion sizes do not reflect price. Overall a bit pricy when staying with dogs, but would still stay again as it serves its purpose for us.
Beautiful grounds, quiet and good parking - lovely breakfast area and good selection.
Nothing really except the room had a strong smell which took awhile to clear.
I didn't like anything from the service given, I felt like the house keeps were in the rush to finish their jobs since we had almost nearly one hour to do the check out! Also just so you know! We had a bunch of glass jars left in the door since when we checked in and no one removed them until the next day! ! Also the next day when we went to the swimming pool and the jaquzzy was not ready until 9:30 am!!!! I mean come on mate! I wanted to treat my wife and why do I have to feel shamed because your workers are not doing their jobs properly and I still have to pay the full price and if I do pay it so I'm happy to give you my honest feedback, I don't like this hotel and we will not come back nor I recommend it to anyone, I hope you'll be fine, Regards
Pleasant location , food was good ,
seemed a bit understaffed , bar was overbusy , restaurant service just about ok , I think there was a wedding going on so car park was full
Quiet location, beautiful setting and building. Great place to stay with our dog. Easy to get to lots of places from here.
Windows only open a fraction so very limited air flow and no air con. Breakfast was a bit haphazard and broken toaster so having to wait for toast was an issue.
Location, setting beautiful house, bar, terrace and restaurant. Really dog friendly, great walks!

Lovely place !
The main building was pretty.
"My stay was unfortunately quite disappointing. The room felt below standard and was in need of redecoration. The lack of air conditioning was particularly uncomfortable during the summer heat, and there was no refrigerator in the room. When I went to the bar for ice, it had closed by 10 PM and had already run out, which was frustrating. The curtains didn't block out external light effectively, making it difficult to get a dark room. To top it off, my room's proximity to a delivery point meant I was woken up at 7:30 AM. Overall, a very disappointing experience."
The main building and setting. Visually very arresting
They have great facilities but not enough staff in bars or housekeeping
Breakfast was good with a nice selection and staff were friendly.
The room was too hot. A small fan in this day and age only is simply not enough.
Only spent a few hours there but beautiful property in large grounds
Not easy to find your way around
Building was impressive and staff pleasant and hotel well located for purpose of our visit
Room was supposed to be a superior room - it was clean but tired looking and frankly quite drab Breakfast was quite poor : replenishment of items was slow bowls cups and food : quality of food was disappointing and choice limited they need to up their game for the price
Another great stay great food as usual and a fantastic pool dining team are great nothing is too much trouble See you soon
Unfortunately the coffee machine was broken- nobody’s fault just missed out on a good coffee!!
We were an hour early for check in and the room was ready which was really helpful. We had the same room as the previous year.
It was hot and our windows didn't open very far. There was a fan provided to be fair.
Very good breakfast
This was an unexpected booking, so was done very late and the room was quite "corporate". However, will definitely stay again, and will book in advance next time!
Great entrance, perfect for disabled, many thanks
Wonderful food, good music and amazing venue. Kriszta served us throughout our sitting and was great. Very helpful and friendly service.
First time visiting and used the bar and were able to eat food from the restaurant in the bar which really suited the tone of our evening with friends. All bar staff were friendly and attentive and especially Emileigh who could not do enough for us We are relatively local, so will definitely come back based on this experience
Staff are rude and came across racist
Property and destination are very nice just the staff are useless and again come off rude and racist
could not fault the quality of food but for me the choice options on the bar meals was limited
Location
Extremely hot rooms. No air con
The location of the hotel was great for our forward journey besides that sadly this is not a hotel I can reccomend
We booked an accessible room for my Mother unfortunately they had upgraded the wrong room and my Mother was put in a far from appropriate room! What made the situation worse was the rudeness of the receptionist! We arrived at 1730 and breakfast plates were all still outside the rooms
Very impressive property the receptionist was very helpful.
The rooms are separate from the main house but are starting to look a little tired.
The dinner was ok
Clean easy access location
We celebrated our Golden Wedding anniversary with our daughters and their husbands. We had a great time, food excellent and Stephanie was cheerful, friendly, patient and attentive without being intrusive and added to our enjoyment of the occasion. She kindly took several photographs for us. She is an asset to your company. We appreciated the thoughtful touches left in our bedroom. Thank you.
Lovley grounds and historical building.Rooms comfortable and pool and gym on site were good.Breakfast buffet style with plenty of choices.
Paths near rooms could be noisy with people coming and going
Breakfast was really good . The hotel is beautiful and the grounds fabulous.
The rooms are quite small we were there for 4 nights but found not enought space for clothes,
Facilities and staff were great
Rooms very hot.
Location, staff were excellent
Bar closing earlier than I’d have liked
A most enjoyable stay with an excellent Room Bed & Breakfast, & evening meal served to us by Izzy our waitress for the evening for nothing was too much trouble. We also made use of the swimming pool jacuzzi & sauna... will be back in the near future.
We were at an Anniversary party and the staff were excellent, especially Ben who went out of his way to make sure both during and after the event that we had everything we needed. Very late in the evening we found the Reception staff particularly helpful too. An excellent stay.
We just arrived for a few nights. Very impressed with the hotel and fascinated by its backstory. Great dinner on our first evening, backed up by friendly service, thank you Stephanie.
Our stay at New Place was enjoyable. It was our wedding anniversary and staff made it that bit more special. We arrived and found our bed made up with swans (towels) and petals, with a card. The place is beautiful with lots of history. The gardens are very tranquil and we enjoyed them with a few drinks in the glorious sunshine. The spa is basic with a swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna, all clean and tidy. We ate at the restaurant for both night and we spoilt with delicious food, wine and amazing staff. We couldn’t have asked for more. A special mention for Stephane who went above and beyond with her professionalism and restaurant etiquette for us and others. She stood out over the two nights and my husband and I instantly recognised her lovely presence. The bar staff were brilliant too. Our stay was nothing short of brilliant and the welcoming staff just made our stay complete. Thank you!
Close to wickham for the festival
Expensive for a property that is “tired”. Needs a deep clean and a lot of painting and refurbishing
The staff were very nice and the breakfast was excellent. The location was excellent for the event we attended in the area.
The standard room was a bit small otherwise really comfortable
Was a great place to stay, the walk around the woodlands was beautiful. The food we had for dinner was amazing and so was the service, thank you Izzy!
Stephanie was absolutelly amazing. She look after us all in a very personal way and were a party of 20 people. Lovely place and even more special with her service.
Came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary and was really delighted to be helped by Lydia at the restaurant and Tom at the bar to make everything extra special.
Absolut gen if a place! We went for a short escape for our anniversary and had a dinner and a night at the estate. The restaurant has incredible food and we’re well taken care of by both Lydia and Emileigh! Both have been incredibly kind and knew every element of the menu! Having a pint after dinner on the terrace is just a blast! Tom behind the bar was great!
The atmosphere of the restaurant was exquisite. The service was unmatched and I was helped by a wonderful waitress by the name of Emileigh who went out of her way to make the stay memorable. Tom - bartender was also up for a good laugh but very respectful.
I would only recommend this hotel if you are not staying in a family room or you are visiting in the winter. We were allocated a family room above the leisure centre and the heat was INSANE! Everyone had to sleep with the front door open because the windows don’t open and there’s no aircon. It actually has made my little boy very unwell because we had to sleep in an oven! They know this is an issue yet don’t have a plan in place to maintain a safe temperature. It had a real impact on our break because it caused my little boy to overheat. Very disappointing and frankly very unsafe.
Stephanie was very friendly and attentive when we needed anything, quite literally anything bless her. The server Tom was welcoming at the bar smiled and was friendly and chatty when we were ordering our drinks, it’s a beautiful place too! Would recommend for sure.
We had a birthday meal at the hotel's restaurant. Stephanie was our waitress, and she was outstanding from the start of the meal until the end of our meal. Stephanie was very friendly and polite and was very attentive throughout the whole meal. Our stay overall was fantastic, and all staff were excellent. We will be back again.
On arrival parking good, staff so helpful at Reception, rooms simple but clean and well maintained. Beautiful location with amazing period house full of history. Bar menu good...lovely lunch on the terrace. Music in entrance by bar was loud and not in keeping with the surroundings...we asked for it to be turned down during dinner and it was. Lovely food menu ...good choice with much food sourced locally. Dining room staff helpful and able to find out answers to our questions when they didnt know something. Maybe worth staff having tasters off the menu so they know what everything is. Breakfast was adequate although some things were getting low and not always replaced. Self service breakfast. Lovely small indoor pool, sauna and jacuzzi. Again, all lovely and clean with such helpful and chatty staff. The house is absolutely amazing and staff happy to chat about its history. There were 2 weddings planned for the weekend we were there so a busy place but we still felt special and the staff were all so welcoming. I would like to thank Ben, Lydia, Will and Shirley for being particularly friendly and helpful. Great place to be based for Watercress Line at Arlesford.
Freat
We always stay here when we come to Portsmouth and it’s a great place to stay. We have just been for dinner and we were served by Stephanie who was amazing. All of the staff are lovely but she stood out for all the right reasons. Would definitely recommend this place to stay for a few days or even one night.
I like the artworks everywhere 😍
Beautiful grounds, friendly staff
Small room, not enough storage space for clothes
Location Desk and wardrobe, Inc fan, hairdryer, etc Walk in shower
Second time staying where trim hanging off wardrobem Dirty rim of toilet Waste pipe in shower blocked, on looking full of gunk and hair Plug in sink didn't work Drops of something on wall next to bed Window only opened half an inch. Needs a handyman to look at problems in room 66
Main house attractive ,staff helpful and friendly especially Stephanie
Room very small and stuffy.Bed small and lumpy.General state of decoration shabby ,evening meal very average and drinks expensive.
Not a lot
Our room still had a bin full from the previous people . Our evening meal was awful. Drinks prices are far too expensive i suppose they have you over a barrel staying there
Beautiful location
The rooms were very hot and stuffy. The staff did provide us with a fan
Gardens where nice
Room are like chalets a bit like butlins, menu was not great, we got a takeaway so we did not have to eat there. Pool is very small.
Superb setting
No air con in rooms
The entrance was impressive as you drive in but it went downhill from there.
YOU DO NOT STAY IN THE MAIN BUILDING so the main photo is slightly misleading. It appears are in blocks of ground and first floor a bit like 'Butlins' . Their is no air con but you will have a fan. Corridor carpet had stains and the wallpaper was peeling off, it just all looked very tired. We upgraded for an extra £20, not sure it made any difference to be honest. The bathroom was modern but the bedroom itself seemed pretty tired. BREAKFAST in the main house. It was ok, coffee was awful from the one machine. Sausages and bacon seemed good but I wouldn't say the food was in abundance.
