Breakfast had a good variety but we were disappointed with the quality of the bread available.
Disappointed with the appearance of the Garden Wing! We felt it was very out of character to the rest of the Hotel. It was just a Concrete Block but fortunately the rooms were comfortable.
The staff were all superb - everyone in the restaurant and bar was so nice and the attention to detail was perfect. Breakfast was excellent, bed was so comfy, shower was great, room was clean and the spa was lovely - especially as we had the whole place to ourselves.
No complaints
Rooms were spacious and comfortable Check in was a smooth process
Lunch at the meeting-
Kamer was wat klein
Property facilities were great. Leisure facility was a good bonus for the price. Restaurant again was good for the price. In general the setting, the main house and the grounds were wonderful.
The leisure area was in need of a refurb and a deep clean in the changing room area. Most of the lockers were also broken. On booking the hotel we expected to stay in the main building however we were in the garden wing; which I would say looked more like a soviet prison than the lovely house. There was no images of this or mention that this is where we would be staying; overlooking a car park.
Pretty views across the fields and polite and attentive staff
Broken window in room which was also a health and safety hazard, tired and worn decor which made it feel uncomfortable and not clean, and cobwebs and spiders in room.
The rooms were clean & tidy, the breakfast was fantastic & the grounds are very impressive.
The evening meal was a very small portion, lukewarm & not the best. The side wing where our rooms were situated needs a lot of work, it looks dated & in need of some TLC. Lots of scuffed paint, missing trim etc.
The food was good
Bar prices
Comfortable bed, good size room, clean and tidy
Great location love the pool
Breakfast was warm at best
Garden Wing room quiet, clean and tidy, with great shower. We have stayed before, so expected and experienced an enjoyable one night stay when travelling. Breakfast excellent in quality and quantity of products offered. Staff well trained in Customer Service, very welcoming and helpful. Our query about a light bulb having blown was promptly dealt with, and replacement found very quickly.
Bit confusing that there was no milk available at Breakfast so having cereal was not an option - we don't generally use alternatives, although offered. Was apparently due to non-delivery 2 hours previously, but no explanation why staff member had not gone to buy some as a backup .... The lights electrics in the room were a bit iffy, possibly unsafe, and we did feed this back to the reception desk.
Nice location, lovely building and period features, Italian garden, entrance hall and restaurant area. Grounds were wonderful to walk around and to sit at the rear of the property on a hot summers evening when we were there!
Sadly the lack of air conditioning in the main house, and the limited ventilation meant that one one of the hottest nights of the year during the summer heatwave, we found it impossibly uncomfortable to sleep, even with the fan that was available. However, I do not blame the hotel for that as the weather was an exceptional anomaly during our stay.

Very nicely situated and the surrounding is very good and relaxing with big garden and beautiful landscape
The spa area, the shower was always given hot water, cannot control the temperature and no private changing room Breakfast was ok as food was not hot enough
Staff, as always very friendly and helpful. Bianca makes everyone feel so welcome and Zack in the restaurant is excellent.
Outside grounds in need of landscaping.
Local to work
I don’t like the outside walk to accommodation or the rooms
Quiet and peaceful location
Food could be better
Location, the pool, the bar and the stagg
No fridge in room
Nice area, good restaurant, hotel had promise but didn’t deliver on cleanliness. Mortimer’s was good food and our waitress Lily was very good
Room unclean, particularly the bathroom. It all needs a good dust and hoover
Friendly staff, beautiful building and surroundings, amazing food in the restaurant
I stayed here a lot and some weeks were unjustifiably expensive
The room was fairly spacious with most items you'd expect. Good choice for breakfast. Although I didn't use them the spa, pool and other facilities looked very good. Lovely surroudings.
No A/C.
Beautiful place with very friendly and helpful staff
It’s a top notch place to be. The staff are very professional and respectful.
I liked everything
As above mostly all excellent! We were there for a wedding- the staff were all very happy and polite.
Breakfast, the eggs were overdone and the sausages had a queer taste. Apart from that we thought it was perfect
Comfortable room but noise from people in corridor with adjacent bedroom doors slamming shut. Restaurant had good selection of food Hotel was very clean
I misread breakfast sign and thought is finished at 10am but it was actually 9.30. I went to breakfast with my daughter at 9.28 and young staff member advised me it was closed. I appreciate I had made an error but as the buffet was still on display in adjacent room. I felt she could have let us fill a plate before it was cleared away. This alone stopped me from booking back the next 2 evenings.
It has a great location and lots of amenities. I’ve stayed here a couple of times now and the rooms are of variable quality. The most recent room I stayed in was excellent quality, clean, modern and felt bright and airy. The staff are friendly and welcoming
Don’t expect to stay in the building captured in the images. This is a large conference centre/ hotel with multiple annexes from different era’s and it is a bit of a rabbit warren to find your way around. There is also no air conditioning which wasn’t good in the hot summer period. Doors in the garden annex between the bedroom and bathroom are a bit narrow.
Amazing buffet breakfast - well presented and lots of choice. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Lovely quiet location.
Good staff and service, the restaurant served good food.Plenty of parking. Sauna and swimming pool were good.
Dated rooms needing a lot of maintenance .
It meet my needs for a relaxing g get away
It was peacfull
Stayed here on multiple occasions. Staff are pleasant and friendly, rooms and clean and a fan was provided on both our previous stays (which the dog appreciated as there is no air con in the garden wing). The grounds of the hotel are lovely and very well suited to dog walks - it's very handy to be able to eat dinner and breakfast in the bar/on the patio with the dog as well. Book breakfast upon check-in if you plan to have it for a reduced rate. The menu has seen an update with very tasty vegetarian and vegan options now added.
The bathroom is quite small in the basic rooms in the garden sweet - perhaps worth booking a larger room (which still accommodates a dog) if you're travelling. The bar area doesn't take bookings for meals in the evening and the hotel can get extremely busy due to the location - so it's not ideal if travelling from far away and you're unable to reserve in advance in case there's no space available at all.
Very friendly staff
Room wasn’t clean cobwebs, dust & mucky carpets
I loved the location. The food. The staff.
Some bits of the property were tired, pool area and changing rooms could certainly do with an upgrade. They were clean just a bit worn.
Lovely clean and welcoming hotel, staff were good in all departments and very friendly. The food was delicious and the restaurant had a great ambiance.
The leisure area is tiny for the size of the venue! Check in took over 45 mins as our room wasn’t ready despite arriving after 3pm.
Loved that you could go for a walk around the grounds and get your steps in ...
Only if dogs are off the lead outside
Most of the staff tried their best
Our deluxe room was shabby. No safe no mini bar no air conditioning and hot water that took an age to work.
Lovely room and helpful staff. Nice spa area that was relaxing
would have liked a fridge in the room
Rooms need upgrading they are a bit tired and need refreshing
The bedrooms rooms0 see above
Breakfast was okay. Zero customer service though. I didn’t see any staff members. The grounds were pretty. We had a little stroll. Pool was okay but the pool side filters had lots of clumps of hair visible. Not just a few but a lot. Hotel provided towels for the pool which was good.
Main house was shown in the pictures, not the concrete jungle behind the house where the majority of the rooms were. Ours looked to be in an old stable. Ground floor family room. Our room was half cleaned and half not cleaned from previous guests. After a long day at 5 ish pm we wanted to check in and relax but we had to go back to reception to report the issue with the room and then wait for it to be sorted. Someone came to change the bed sheets but the area still had not been cleaned and there was visible dirt/ mess and rubbish on the carpet. Our son ended up sharing with us. The shower was also so hot and difficult to change the temp. Too hot for a child to use. Coffee machine area was dirty and rubbish every where. The machine it self had gone off milk inside. Generally the room was okay but blinds and curtains were stained and tore. There was a floor lamp with the lamp shade also stained. The window sills were cracked and rotting. Very disappointing stay to be honest. When we drove around to the side of the plot to our room, we were shocked. It looks like a big slab of concrete with lots of windows.
The Italian gardens were cute, the grounds allowed for a wonderful walk. The pool and jacuzzi facilities were clean and quiet - allowing us to relax.
The brutalist grey block we stayed in. It did dampen the mood compared to the rest of the stunning hotel.
Sehr schönes altes Herrenhaus mit großzügiger Parkanlage, schöne Sonnenterasse, Spa im Haus, reichhaltiges englisches Frühstücksbuffet, gepflegte überdurchschnittlich gute Küche, problemloses Parken, hundefreundlich, gute Lage für Ausflüge
Unterbringung im Annex (Garden Wing), extrem hässliches, aussen ungepflegtes Modulgebäude, Zimmer klein, aber immer sehr sauber.
Terasse und Garten
Food was good! Very clean
Was a little dull in the bar and restaurant the garden rooms are very unwelcoming
Swimming pool was clean Beds were comfortable.
comfortable quiet room.
breakfast was ok but could easily have been better for the quality of hotel
The house was lovely to see .
The big white block of prison cells at the back of the house that is called hotel rooms more like a prison camp when you look at it what a shame that the hotel don’t show you this.
A fantastic hotel, with amazing interior design from the reception and restaurant, all the way to the rooms. The beds were super comfortable, the bathrooms were very clean, and the breakfast was delicious. We enjoyed a swim in the pool too before checkout and loved the facilities available. It made a very memorable birthday weekend!
We stayed during one of the summer heatwaves and found the rooms a little hot (as with most uk properties!), however the windows didn’t open very far making it difficult to cool the room during the night.
Comfortable room and a decent breakfast, staff very good
Nothing
Good location with large grounds to walk around. The staff were good and the room clean.
Both windows had latches with fittings that had come apart so we’re not fixed to the frame which meant they couldn’t be opened in a fixed position.
Location
Nothing
We had a lovely little getaway here and we weren’t disappointed. The staff were friendly, the pool was great, the food was delicious and the beer was great, too. Lovely walks around the grounds and the best bit is that we could be our dog and we all had a lovely sleep.
There isn’t much I didn’t like. The adjacent building looked like an eye saw. But, once out of sight out of mind.
The staff were friendly, rooms comfortable and a lovely swimming pool.Dinner was of a high standard
Sometimes we couldn't get in the pool.As there were swimming lessons but no signs were around so even though I paid more for services couldn't use them
Rustig ruime kamer op een heerlijke locatie
diner viel me echt tegen, beetje luxe snackbar. Op deze prachtige accommodatie verwacht je een heerlijk diner.
Staff super helpful (kept bits in fridge and freezer for me) lovely grounds and bar area.
Our room was in the garden wing which was not an attractive building from the outside, but the room itself was absolutely fine.
Enjoyed everything about our stay. The breakfast was excellent and we made good use of the swimming pool.
It's on a lovely site and plenty of seating inside and outside. Opportunity to walk around the ground s or using facilities inside e.g. pool. Breakfast very nice. This is my second visit so liked it enough to come back.
Long plain corridors, in contrast to elegant public areas.
The room was neat and clean, breakfast no big options same menu every day. May be good for British
The location is too internal, may be good option for British not for Asian. There is no nearby places, communting was big challenge and no big options to explore in the food due to vegetarian
Beautiful building and gardens
Looked a little tired in areas
The hotel restaurant was surprisingly good, with beautifully cooked food and it wasn't extortionately priced either! The bed was comfortable and the room spacious. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
The fact that the windows could not be opened more than an inch! We appreciate it will be due to Health & Safety rules, but in 33 degrees heat, the room was extremely hot. We were very grateful for being provided with a large fan (without asking).
I was upgraded to a Delux Room, which was large and airy - given the 35degC temperature. It was a little shabby around the edges, and the furniture needs updating.
Nothing
room was not clean, we moved to another room which felt dirty too and they charged us an extra £30 to move to the other room. we wont go there again. The pool had froth scum on the surface.
everything . the breakfast was cheap products and poor quality.
Beautiful rooms been second time here absolutely loved it.
Room should've got some ac, opened my room was very hot
Great location, very friendly staff, nothing too much trouble. Nice breakfast. The room was comfortable and the bed. Beautiful hotel and grounds.
There was a wedding at the hotel, only one person behind the bar to cope with everyone before the wedding. No better on the evening either. Breakfast was help yourself to cutlery and napkins because they weren’t set up before we arrived at 9am. Not enough staff at breakfast. Not much tea, milk or coffee in the bedroom.
The house was situated close enough to Oxford and not too far from the Cotswolds which I based myself there for. The price was decent for the area specially for a weekend in summer holiday and more so as I got an upgrade to a deluxe room through booking.com. Also the staff where wonderful from the reception staff to the breakfast staff to the evening dinner staff every single one was very nice, kind, welcoming and helpful
The rooms and bathrooms need some tlc the carpet in my bedroom was torn and the bathroom just looked shabby. Downstairs is beautiful if the rooms could be to that standard it would really uplift the hotel. I was ok with the way it looked as it reflected the price I paid what I wasn’t too keen on was that the desk/ tv area was dusty that’s something that should not have been the case.
The actual building and its history were fascinating; we'll go back when we have time for more than an overnight stop.
The staff were great. They were friendly and helpful. The pool was good and clean. The hotel food was good.
The room was one of the garden rooms and it looked like a prison block. Honestly awful. The rooms were small and the bathroom was tiny. The windows have safety locks and therefore there is no fresh air. It was so hot that we couldn't sleep at all. It is not what I expect when I paid over £100 for one night. I won't be staying again.
Umgebung und Garten, Bar, Restaurant und Lesezimmer. Sehr nettes Hotelpersonal.
Außenfassade des Anbaus
staff very pleasant and helpful. Large room. Option of bath or shower in the bathroom.
We stayed in Room 419 for which the decor is tired and needs refreshing by being added to the Hotel's refurbishment programme. It is not a fault to fully dust the room and furniture! The non-slip mats in the bathroom need to be wider - at least the full width of the shower. Given the range of electronic devises carried by all these days all socket outlet faceplates should have USB points ( include in refurbishment works for this room). Mechanical ventilation in bathroom would not appear to be working. The carpet (and know doubt the underlay as well) was rucked up and the carpet/underlay need stretching in this room before it becomes a tripping hazard and the carpet splits and requiring immediately replacing. The furniture in the room would benefit from the attention of a competent French Polisher. An Emergency Fire Escape Notice needs fixing to the inside of the room entrance door (what about the other rooms?) Totally uninspiring menu. My wife had a Main of Fish & Chips - the batter on the fish was as hard as 30N concrete and when my wife did finally break it open the fish was difficult to get out and was small!
Umgebung und Garten, Bar, Restaurant und Lesezimmer. Spa-Bereich. Sehr nettes Hotelpersonal. Sehr hundefreundlich.
The grounds of the hotel where spectacular, the food was very good and it was fantastic value for money, the spa was also great
The pillows where terrible
Although the block we were in looked a bit dormitory. Inside was clean and well presented. Lovey decor and facilities. Could always use a fridge for milk in the morning. The only thing missing. Spa was lovely! Clean and peaceful we had the place to ourselves Sunday afternoon! Dinner was good. Cauliflower a bit chewy but everything else was delicious. Breakfast was well presented if the sausages were nothing special.
Nothing staff went above and beyond friendly and helpful. Thanks for making us feel welcome
Very comfy bed, ideal location, grounds are superb if you're travelling with a dog like we were, staff were very friendly and very handy location. We are repeat guests.
Bathroom is clean but very compact. Likely wise to go for a larger room (with hopefully a larger bathroom) with more space for the dog at night on the cooler floors.
Really nice.
Shame the garden suite building isn’t as in keeping with the others.

Old, tired and falling apart behind a glossy front
Everything past reception
Lovely staff, gorgeous room, great facilities overall (particularly the restaurant/bar area).
Lovely grounds and old building.
Found fried eggs white undercooked, mushrooms dry and tasteless, bacon tough, chocolate muffins no taste. Would of been nice to have smooth orange juice with no bits in. Beef burger dry and tasteless. Beds hard. On arrival bed made as a double bed and not a twin as booked for. Bathroom very tired and dated.
Lovely hotel in a great location. Staff were excellent
I was travelling with my elderly mum and had booked a twin room. When we arrived I was told that there was only a double room available. The hotel offered to put a temp single bed in the room. This made the room very over crowded and difficult to navigate.
Great rooms, beautiful grounds and excellent food
Nothing
The setting and character
Had a problem with not being told there was a charge for late checkout it was. Powered eventually and monie refunded.
Leisure facilities were good, staff friendly, good choice of breakfast. Beds were very comfy. The restaurant food was passable
Garden wing is awful. Doesn't show up on their property map on the website - for good reason. I could cope with the outside of the building looking drab. But the rooms are not great. The bathroom door was rotten, the bathroom looked grubby, the windows were rotten. No Aircon. There was a wedding on and their was not enough staff to cope with the other customers and the wedding - the other customers were not informed on arrival that this could be the case. Because of this their bar was over run, I couldn't get the cocktail I wanted. Basically very poor planning on the managers part.
Nice room & restaurant facilities
Swim pool a little tired
Great breakfast, lovely evening terrace, not too busy, amazing room value compared to what i was expecting
Always clean and quiet despite a large wedding. Great location for us and very comfortable.
Parking by the garden wing can sometimes be a challenge.
The pool, spa, sauna and steam were good quality. Although the sauna was very cramped.
There was no air conditioning which made the rooms very hot and difficult to sleep. The gym was very poor. Very untidy, weights left all over the floor and the other than the treadmills there was very little equipment. My evening meal was poor. Over cooked dry single chicken breast, the chips were undercooked and over priced for its quality and quantity. I was there for business meetings and the coffee station was a mess, the breakfast tea ran out and as a minimum you would expect coffee to be brought to the meeting rooms.
Beautiful setting with fab grounds and garden. Very relaxing break with great food and good service throughout.
Food was good and plentyfull.
The bedroom didn't match the opulence of the entrance and reception area .
Beautiful property, good facilities, excellent staff, good breakfast.
Our room was unbearably hot even with the window open as far as it would go even though it was far from the hottest couple of days of this summer. Sleep was therefore not easy. There was a table fan provided, but it was too noisy to leave on all night even on the lowest setting. A great pity. Apart from that it would have been 5 stars.
The breakfast area was nice, plenty of choice.
The room was very dated and tired, bathroom was very old and looked unclean. Booked a deluxe, absolutely nothing deluxe about it. Very basic room, carpet was ruffled in places and needs replacing.
Beautiful hotel, lovely environment, nice staff.
Mistake over pool opening times, so not able to swim as planned this morning, a little disappointed as love to swim and had book hotel and planned day for this reason. However these things happen and every one was very nice.
Everything from check in to check and in between. Staff were brilliant, the food was good and the ambience was nothing but restful.
Lovely, welcoming staff and an imposing property. Our room was a very comfortable size.
The hotel felt more geared toward conferences and business guests rather than private guests.
Schönes Restaurant, Pool, schöne Lage im Grünen. Zimmer sehr geräumig.
An einigen Stellen etwas in die Jahre gekommen. Fenster ließen sich nicht richtig öffnen. Zimmer waren sehr warm.
Room was large and clean. Breakfast was excellent
nothing
Friendly staff. Good food. Lovely grounds and gardens.
Bedroom was in desperate need of upgrade. Paintwork in places flaking. Bathroom door would not close. No hot water in the morning. The windows looked out onto a roof with extractor and Aircon units which were running all night, so very little sleep.
The room was a reasonable size with comfortable beds. No aircon, but did provide a fan for some cooling at night. Breakfast provides an English Breakfast buffet, fruit and pastries, with a good selection of juices and coffee/tea. The grounds are large and well kept and the house is worth seeing in itself. There is an excellent indoor swimming pool and the gym has a good selection of exercise bikes and running machines. Overall a lovely place to stay and well located for the area.
The pillows are very fat so tend to bend your neck a bit. Food is replaced as it is eaten but you might need to wait several minutes for hot items in the buffet, and the scrambled egg was very runny. I think it was made with eggs and a lot of milk, but otherwise very good food. The weight training items in the gym were very limited with a selection of weights for a dumbell and a push up/pull up frame, it could do with one good weight machine to give a wider training selection.
great venue nice restaurant great staff relaxed atmosphere
the pool is a compromise in terms of its shape..its hard to swim in an L shape pool. Having most of the accommodation in a separate block from the restaurant is a pity..eould be a single if it were raining
Restaurent was good, breakfast was good, emenities are great
Room was not super clean, bathroom was also not clean to my expectations

What guests love
Areas to consider
Cleanliness
6/10Several guests noted cleanliness issues: bathroom described as old and looking unclean, paintwork flaking in places, and an untidy gym with equipment left on the floor; these reports lower the cleanliness score.
Service
9.2/10Service is frequently praised—staff repeatedly described as brilliant, friendly and welcoming. Minor service lapses (coffee station messy for meetings) noted but overall service quality is strong.
Location
9/10Location and setting are repeatedly highlighted as excellent: beautiful grounds, gardens and a peaceful green setting; a key positive across reviews.
Room Quality
5.5/10Rooms were often criticized: dated and tired decor, ruffled carpet, old bathrooms, windows that didn’t open properly and rooms that were unbearably hot due to no air conditioning—room quality is a notable weakness.
Amenities
7.5/10Mixed amenities feedback: spa, pool, sauna rated good (sauna cramped), but the gym was poor and untidy, pool shape and pool opening-time mishaps were mentioned; overall amenities are solid but inconsistent.
Value for Money
6.8/10Value is mixed: some guests felt meals (example: an overpriced, poor-quality evening meal) did not match price, while others appreciated the ambience and breakfasts—overall slightly below average for value.
Food and Beverage
8.2/10Food receives generally positive comments—breakfast is praised as good with plenty of choice and the restaurant is described as lovely—though there are isolated reports of a disappointing evening meal.
Overall Experience
9.4/10Overall impression is positive: many guests described the property as beautiful with excellent staff and a restful ambience and indicated they would return, despite specific issues with rooms/amenities for some stays.
