Friendly, helpful reception staff and evening bar staff
They claim to accommodate a vegan diet but I had to eat the accompaniments to the regular breakfast rather than obtain a pack of plant based food Having a dog you breakfast in the bar, whilst this is fantastic the cleaning staff sarting hoovering around us during our breakfast. In all my years of visiting hotels, cleaning is never started until the end of service
Breakfast was very standard considering what they charge me and the hotel needs to get with the times of sound proofing and hotel inspections based on value for money
Location
Dirty carpets everywhere and the whole place looks as though it is deliberately being left to decay.
Bar was nice
Was told to make up our own bed in the cabin. Told where to find the sheets and had to pull out and make up a bed even had to put cover sheets on the duvet.
Close to the start for The Lap. Food was fairly good with vegan options. Drinks were reasonable at the bar. Beds were comfy. Nice to have a pool and jacuzzi. Breakfast items provided for runners who were leaving early in morning. Free parking.
Staff not always available when needed and varying in their efficiency and friendliness. Room didn't have a bath as we had thought. Had the accessible room and slide door to bathroom was rather dodgy - it was not attached at bottom so would swing out and the plank above it was coming away . Room was a bit dark with not much natural light as next to a wall. Hotel is generally a bit run down.
Location
The flys all over our room. No air conditioning.
Relaxed informal environment
Nothing KO
Excellent quite looking location. Clean rooms and comfortable beds.
Can be kept a bit better, Breakfast can be improved.
Hot tub and pub
Nothing
It was great that kids could access the pool all day though I think other guests may disagree.
Loved everything about it. Looked good, staff the best, food unbelievable, drinks fantastic.
We paid upfront for our stay and complete honesty was presented on our behalf. At the end of our trip between you and the hotel we lost £30.00 for a dog element. I am suspicious of you that you knew this may happen. In the event you know this will or could happen or has happened previously. You need to make good on this In the event you don’t are you in joint enterprise ?
The pod was nice and had everything needed, decent shower, etc.... Just enough space for 4- 2 adults and 2 children.
The hot-tub was nice, but was old and needed a bit of a repair or upgrade. the lid was broken and fairly rusty and worn round the edges. Swimming pool is very small and there was kids lessons going on while we were using it.
We absolutely loved our stay in 1 of the cabins with private hot tub. It's soo peaceful
We've have had a lovely stay..The staff were brilliant. The room was a good size.Breakfastnqas l9vely and fresh.
The only thing I would comment on would be when we were having breakfast in the bar area,as we had a dog with us.The cleaning staff were there mopping the floor. The cleaning should have been completed in this area before the clients started to arrive.
Staff
I wasn’t happy with the cleaning. The room service was very basic, they only emptied the bins and left some coffee. I also didn’t like that the hotel isn’t very family friendly for people with a baby. And I didn’t like that I wasn’t able to use any of the facilities that I paid for.
Loved the old school board games. Staff were very lovely and made our stay special
Sadly, there was some dirt in the bathroom, something really quite dirty. This put me off my breakfast. Hopefully that was a one off as the rest of the room was lovely
Breakfast was lovely. GF options available although it would have been nice to have been able to have had some of the cooked items from the kitchen before they had been put out as there was a risk of cross contamination. Staff were very helpful. Room a really good size and beds very comfy
Building is a little tired. Could do with a bit of an update.
The layout and decor The bar, lounge & restaurant Loved the swimming pool! The lack of annoying music in the breakfast room
The Staff seemed a bit stressed, maybe overstretched, clearly not too happy! I was told what to do at the pool, take a shower etc., as if I’m a child. Customers are being told what to do and not do these days, not treated with gratitude for their business!
The room was pleasant and the bed comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good.
Because there was a cycling event on, space in the restaurant was only available very early in the evening. We had planned to dine there with two friends who were staying nearby, but luckily our friends were able to take us elsewhere on both evenings.
Breakfast: Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice and everything fresh. This was one of the highlights of our stay. Room: The room was very clean, which we really appreciated. However, the hotel itself is quite dated and would really benefit from an uplift to bring it up to modern standards. Dinner / Bar Food: We ordered food from the bar menu and were very disappointed. The quality did not match the price at all — we paid £67 for two starters and two mains, which felt like a total rip‑off for what we received. The food was bland, overpriced, and not enjoyable. I would definitely eat elsewhere. £3.15 for a small bottle of Fanta - absolute joke!
The main meal -I would go somewhere else to eat.
Easy check-in room clean good breakfast
N/A
It was good value for money, breakfast was good
Pool area could be better, needed some tlc, doesnt look like its changed in 20yrs. Also teacher was taking swimming lessons every half hour we were there! Evening meal, kids menu i was disappointed, had to have chips and peas with the cumberland sausage, couldnt do mash & veg which i found bizzare as my husband and i had a sunday roast so obviously mash & veg available? Could do with extra bar/service staff the 2 lads on shift were run ragid. Taking orders, serving bar, serving meals, clearing away
All good.
A bit of confusion about booking in for the evening meal.
Amazing staff. We got there late but the receptionist offered to let us use the pool still. Amazing place, really caters well for dogs and kids.
Nothing to dislike!
The room, garden room, lounge area, bar area. Clean, friendly chatty staff, Easy to use as a base to get around to see the sites.
Mattress a little firm.
The Scottish barman was very friendly and the service was excellent Staff was very helpful at the reception Evening meal was very good Plenty on offer for breakfast Food was excellent Hotel conveniently situated just off the main road. Very good car park with plenty of car spaces to park your car Very comfortable place to stay
Probably for me personally The room was a bit old fashioned but comfortable
We received an upgrade from a family room to a cabin, which was unexpected. It was a two night B&B but, we ate in the restaurant/bar on the first night, the food was excellent and price was what you would expect to pay in any pub. The lady on reception when we booked in - sorry I didn't get your name - was very professional, friendly and nothing seemed to be much trouble for her. I would recommend the hotel for her alone.
Slight problem with the duvet for the drop down bed, unfortunately our 12 year old seen the stains on it and we had to do a swap for ours. Not a main issue but one to mention anyway.
The hotel was clean and airy, Dining room recently refurbished since our previous stay. Tables spread out and looks on to nice garden views. The bedroom was clean with a comfy bed. The short walk to the room was fine with ample parking available on site. The pool was warm and clean with fresh towels available at reception. A good variety of food available which cater for many different needs including gluten free. A medications fridge was made available upon request, Great reception team.
Breakfast was running a little behind at 7.30 and we were told we could not go in. It opened fairly quickly thereafter but this response took me by surprise as it was past 7.30. Perhaps need more staff on at busy periods.
Food at hotel was lovely
Hotel looking rather tired in places but on the plus side rooms very clean just need updating. A mirror near a plug for drying hair ! The staff were brilliant especially the lady on reception. Food definitely value for money
Had 4 nights in dog friendly room with led directly onto grassed area for them to be allowed to do what they needed. Room was comfortable and clean if a little tired in certain areas. Ate one evening which was good quality but the breakfast was excellent. All very good ingredients and well cooked. Staff all very good across all areas. Partner used pool and said it was very good. Would stay again.
2nd visit to the Newby Bridge Hotel. We find this hotel most welcoming and comfortable. From the reception staff to the restaurant staff (special mention to Scott and Sylvia). It was our anniversary and the hotel made it extra special with balloons in the room and a complimentary bottle of wine at dinner which was a total surprise. The food was good and the ambience just right. We will return. The hotel is on a good bus route to Kendal. Windermere or Ulverston and beyond.
Everything was great. Great location cleanliness perfect
1 lady doing breakfast made us feel very in welcome, not just once but every morning. If I book again we will not be having breakfast, which is a shame because it was lovely
bed bar manager
cleanliness outide environment - the fact we were in a house behind a derelict barn broken fittings dirty pool area staff smoking all the time
Lovely location to access various parts of the lakes, just not within walking distance for choice of places to eat, although personally we didn't mind driving out and you can eat at the hotel pub, the huntsman inn
Breakfast was buffet style which is good to pick your own, however some of the food was just kept warm too long so the eggs for instance were like rubber.
Arrived before check in and was met with a warm welcome. They offered us breakfast which was excellent. We went on the lake cruise and came later to check in. Room was lovely food was good and they had also gave us a free drink and balloons in our room as it was our anniversary. Couldn’t complain about the staff as they were excellent and very professional. Would definitely stay again.
Hotel comfortable great location for steam train and motor museum . Food lovely and staff welcoming
I receved bill for evening meal on my phone next morning and to pay it which I did. When I went to check out told I had balance of meal to pay said Id done this then was told oh some banks dont put it through cause of unsafe network . It eventually showed on system but left me feeling uneasy what id done and wished hotel had pre warned me not to pay this or even not to have sent it in the first place.
We have just left this morning after a fantastic 2 nights in a log cabin with a hot tub. We were in cabin 2 which was so private and peaceful, no one overlooking us at all. We were welcomed very warmly by Keeley who checked us in, very friendly, very welcoming and took time to speak to the grandchildren and the dog. The cabin was immaculate and well equipped with everything we needed, lots of towels freshly laundered and even hot tub towels and robes. The hospitality tray was very well thought out with lots of choice and lots of milk cartons. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows perfect. If I was to be critical of one thing it is the blinds inside the doors were very dusty but as I said it was one tiny negative. The information book provided was very informative and helpful. We had lunch in the bar and Mandy who served us was excellent, so friendly and went out of her way to make sure we had everything, she made a fuss of the dog and even brought him treats, she gave us some information on local walks etc and even went to get us a discount card for local attractions. The food was delicious, so fresh and very tasty indeed. Breakfast was included in our stay and it was everything we needed, we didn’t need to leave the dog in the cabin as we were able to eat breakfast in the bar so he could come with us. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely return .
The staff very friendly and helpful. The room was good , thank you for the upgrade . The breakfast was great
As it was really hot , a fan in the room would have been good
When we arrived we were informed we had been upgraded to the Bridal Suite, a private Rotunda built in the grounds. This meant we had better parking and was easier to take the dog out for a walk when required.
I couldn’t really make out some of the previous reviews of how amazing this hotel is, however I have just read some of the reviews from the past week and wish to now add my review. We were also at the hotel from the 12th-15th. We were there on a Travelzoo deal. We arrived late on the 12th to a confused receptionist who wondered where we were. I explained that I had emailed the hotel and also had a reply. I showed her the email and it turns out it was her colleague sitting next to her who had replied….🤷♀️ we were taken to our room. To be honest we didn’t really take in the surroundings as we were late, however the next morning we were amazed to be placed in what they call a ‘Jasmine Cottage’ which basically looks like a delapidated out building at the back of the hotel across a scruffy yard. I questioned it with the lady on reception and was told that all the double rooms are in these so called ‘cottages’ It is really not what you want to look at when returning from a day out. The main front of the hotel looks very grand. There is no mention on the Travelzoo deal or on the hotel website that a standard double room is not in the actual hotel. The photos on their website show the nicer rooms and the grounds at the back of the hotel. Breakfast was also very uninspiring. Buffet cooked food. Luke warm and cold plates for it to go on. No tea or coffee pots bought to your table. Just a coffee machine and a tea urn which also only had luke warm weak tea in. The view from our room was looking over a very tatty yard and another building with scaffolding all over it . Our room all be it very old was clean, although one day when we returned to our room at 4pm it was only just being serviced. I questioned it with the lady on reception when she asked if everything was ok and I said “no not really”, she said there is only two people who clean the whole hotel of approx 48 rooms and that they had to concentrate on the rooms where people had checked out . How can you have only two people cleaning a hotel of that size. We had a meal one evening which was included in our deal but we just chose to eat it in the bar area. It was ok but just an average pub type meal. We did hear the locals speaking in the bar that the hotel is up for sale. That would explain no maintenance or upkeep being done. We will definitely not be recommending or returning to this hotel and do not be fooled by the Travelzoo deal at it is being miss sold.
Well we have just returned from a two night Travelzoo stay at the newby bridge hotel , Our double room was in the main hotel , but I did ask for a room with a bath 🤔 We had a bath and a very clean bathroom , bedroom was okay although the bedroom window would not stay open and it was very hot , we did get a fan , which was slightly better. Dinner we found good although the menu was the same both nights , breakfast was self service and a bit hunt n gather but was okay for us, everything you needed but no silver service 🤔 The staff did vary on the whole Sunday evening the staff in the dining room were not good , a Scottish lad in a fosters shirt , shorts and trainers he looked like he'd just finished work on a building site but was quite pleasant, the other 2 very young staff were obliviously very loved up and there was generally a lot of messing about n mobile phone usage going on at the desk , not very professional.both nights , but the young girl on Monday evening was lovely. Reception staff and manager were very pleasant n helpful. Drinks are reasonably priced . Not sure we would stay here again but we felt the Travelzoo deal was good value .
Breakfast overall was good but there wasnt enough croissants or fruit yoghurt. Good variety of options within the fried breakfast
The rooms could have been slightly cleaner upon arrival as there was dust on the window ledges and hairs on the bed. Also, a couple of the staff on front desk had a bit of cold persona when greeting us and when we came to collect the keys
A relaxing hotel in a great location. Loved the fact it also had a pool.
Breakfasts were good & the dining room was a lovely setting for a delicious evening meal.
The hotel is in need of an urgent upgrade, we paid £210 for a superior double, we checked on on the 16th of July at 16:15 and checked out at 18:15, room was poor quality and the overall facility is NO more than an up graded pub. Very disappointed you would be better off at a Premier Inn. Don,t be fooled by the web site.
I have travelled here before, I have to say it’s a beautiful location. My only consideration this time whilst no one was rude the staff were not very warm. I found breakfast to be an awkward experience clearing the table I was sat on whilst I had just sat down. Whilst I appreciate there were only two of us it confused me slightly as it wasn’t particularly busy when I entered. Whilst you could argue staff were being attentive, again I went in and finished my plate and it was collected almost immediately. I did notice other guests were greeted more warmly than I was. It’s a shame it’s the second time I have visited but I dare say I am not confident I would return based on this. Other than that it’s a beautiful location with so much to offer.
Comfy setting
No air con
One of the worst hotel stays we’ve ever experienced I very rarely leave negative reviews, but I genuinely feel other people need to know what they are booking if they are allocated a room in Jasmine Cottage. Before I say anything else, I want to be fair. The receptionist was extremely kind and accommodating. Our third-party voucher had accidentally been issued for the wrong date, and despite this, she very kindly honoured it and found us a room that evening. Looking back, I honestly wish she hadn’t, because had we arrived at a more reasonable time, we would undoubtedly have left and found somewhere else to stay. We arrived at around 7.45 pm, tired, hungry and with very little choice at that time of the evening. We knew we had booked accommodation in Jasmine Cottage, but nothing prepared us for its condition. To reach it, we walked past buildings that looked derelict and were covered in scaffolding, with little evidence that any actual construction work was taking place. Rather than arriving somewhere welcoming, it felt as though we were walking behind an abandoned renovation project. The cottage itself looked little better. It appeared tired and neglected from the outside, and our hearts sank before we had even stepped inside. Unfortunately, things only deteriorated from there. The room was in an appalling state of repair and cleanliness. The windows were filthy, with dirt and grime obscuring the glass. Several of the leaded window strips had detached and were hanging loose from the panes. The window frames and sills were full of dirt and debris, the wooden headboard had an obvious build-up of dust, the furnishings were tired and worn, and the overall impression was one of prolonged neglect rather than simply an older property. What disappointed us most was not that the accommodation was old. We love character hotels, and many older properties are beautifully maintained. It was the apparent lack of care, maintenance and presentation that made this stay so upsetting. The outside areas did little to improve that impression. There were broken plant pots, damaged walls that had been cordoned off, visible building works, construction materials and general untidiness around the property. The photographs I have attached honestly do not convey just how depressing the overall environment felt in person. A few years ago, I had the unfortunate experience of staying in another hotel where there were bed bugs. Because of that experience, the condition of this room caused me genuine anxiety. Although I found no evidence of bed bugs here, I was so uncomfortable with the cleanliness and condition of the room that I could not bring myself to sleep properly in the bed. Instead, I spent the night lying on top of it because I simply did not feel comfortable getting underneath the bedding. Thankfully, the weather was warm enough to make that possible, but no guest should ever feel that uneasy about spending the night in hotel accommodation. Dinner was equally disappointing. We ordered a starter to share, followed by two main courses, but the starter never arrived. Instead, both main courses were brought straight to the table. When we queried it, we were offered the option of having our meals taken away while the starter was prepared, or having the starter brought afterwards. We declined and cancelled it. My husband also requested English mustard with his meal. Despite asking twice, it eventually arrived when he was already halfway through eating. Before dinner, we ordered two vodka, lime and sodas. Both drinks tasted flat and stale, so we returned them immediately and declined to pay for them. Replacement drinks were provided. By the following morning, we had completely lost confidence in the hotel. Despite breakfast being included, we simply packed our bags and left as early as possible without staying to eat. I had previously seen a terrible review mentioning Jasmine Cottage from 2019, but assumed that, approximately seven years later, the issues would have been addressed. Sadly, based on our experience, they clearly have not been. I cannot comment on the standard of the rooms within the main hotel, as we stayed only in Jasmine Cottage, and they may well be considerably better. However, based on everything we saw during our stay, the overall presentation of the property fell well below what we would expect from a hotel of this rating. The photographs attached were all taken during our stay and accurately reflect the condition of the accommodation we were given. I would strongly encourage anyone offered a room in Jasmine Cottage to look at them carefully before deciding whether this is somewhere they would be happy to spend the night. I had to give it the ONE STAR to process the review but it wasn’t worth that even.
Ntn
Everything booked a woodland cabin got given a hotel room
Location is great, so close to many attractions!
Breakfast was really basic and the hostess at the time seemed rude.
Nice quiet hotel with good amenities. Was great to have access to the pool (and no one else in there), and the bar was cosy with good food. Free parking, plus veggie/ vegan options at breakfast (you just need to ask the staff).
Very friendly helped with my booking problem at short notice
Nothing
Staff friendly. Nice bathroom
Old squeaky beds one of which hurt my daughter's back ,bunk beds not sturdy. No air con. Difficult to sleep in the heat.
The building and furniture are really old, the car park entrance is full of pot holes, no fridge in the rooms and hygiene is a disappointment
Gewoon goed
Niet echt heel schoon
We love how friendly the staff are to us and our 14 month old daughter We love the swimming pool, we can see the big garden out of our window
We didn't have a plug in the bath
The Newby Bridge Hotel sits on the main A590, and, though historic, the exterior is unprepossessing. The immediate interior is furnished with antique articles and examples of the hotel's past links with poets such as Coleridge. There is a lounge area consisting of traditional sofas and featuring historic links. The bar has a subtle pub atmosphere with a selection guest of ales; there is a beer garden to the front. Dining is available in the bar area or in a separate modern style restaurant overlooking the grounds. The varied menu, though not extensive, not only features classic favourites such as fish and chips, pies, burgers, but also more sophisticated dishes. All were well presented and cooked perfectly. The service we experienced was excellent, being efficient, polite and friendly. Our bedrooms, in a modern two storey wing, were furnished in gentle tones in a modern design fully equipped with large TV and easy chairs. Storage was adequate. The bathroom consisted of shower over bath, W.C.. and wash basin. The branded shampoos and soap were conveniently provided in free movement bottles, as opposed to the dreaded wall mounted dispensers now common elsewhere. Our room overlooked the pleasant grounds, which are used for weddings. There was no road noise despite the windows being open. Breakfasts consisted of a cooked buffet with accompanying juices, cereals, yoghurts and croissants. Overall, our stay was very enjoyable, made more so by extra special attention the staff made of my elderly mother, who was celebrating a special birthday. The location of the Newby Bridge Hotel was very convenient for Lake Windermere, the steam railway and the Southern lakes area.
The place and location was great, lovely room
Fantastic Hotel! Very comfortable & welcoming. Excellent service, in particular Keely & Sylvia on reception. Lovely family room, little niece enjoyed the pool, good breakfast, nice restaurant, bar & lounge area with pleasant views. Everything we needed. Great location, lots to see & do. Will definitely return & recommend! Many thanks
Nice chilled place to b thanku
Staff friendly and helpful, room nice, and dinner good.
Breakfast sausages dry and black pudding poor, mushrooms cold.
Staff friendliness. Nice room
Small pool and no steamroom/ Sauna although advsertised. Could not relax in the pool due to swimming lessons. Also Breakfast was not great and ran out of a lot of food options. Also was overcharged by £100 for someone elses bill. This was resolved but I had to speak to staff about it
Staff was fantastic, Enjoyed the bar area and locals was friendly. Food was also exceptional.
Would have liked an iron board and some better complimtary shampoos, bodywash, toothpaste. Other than that shower was good and room was comfy. Perhaps a fan.
The staff were friendly, professional, and helpful throughout our stay. They met our expectations and provided good customer service whenever needed. Overall, the experience was pleasant, and we were satisfied with the service provided.
While the canopy bed creates a stylish and elegant look, the top frame collects a significant amount of dust and requires regular cleaning. Guests with dust allergies may be particularly affected if this area is not properly maintained, so it would be appreciated if housekeeping paid closer attention to it. Additionally, a fridge in the room would be a valuable amenity and would make the stay more comfortable.
Four of us stayed on a Travelzoo deal and what value for money it was and one of the better hotels we have been to on these deals. We paid £129 for DB&B with a bottle of Prosecco in the room. We arrived early and had a couple drinks on the lawn at the front of the hotel. It was very hot and only 3 of the 4 tables had a parasol. Also the tables are concrete and not the comfiest! Not much outside seating round the back either… I had emailed ahead for a ground floor room as my husband has mobility issues. The room was fine but at the back of the hotel overlooking the bins and the deliveries start arriving at 6.30am! We also requested a fan on checking in, as it was so hot. Be aware they don’t have fans for every room so get your request in early ! The evening meal was very good and arrived piping hot. The staff were really nice and liked a laugh. We all enjoyed our food. Drinks at the bar quite reasonable for a hotel. Breakfast was self service buffet which was, as ever in hotels, only luke warm but nice enough. The waitress however, bearly said two words to us. Will visit again.
Great location and the breakfast was really good.
The hotel itself is quite dated and in need of some work (chipped bath enamel, broken shower taps, missing floor tile grout). The service was variable - the receptionist was lovely but, for example, when we needed to swap the side vegetable accompaniment with a meal we were told we couldn’t. Also, one morning we went to breakfast and were told we could sit anywhere we liked but all the tables were dirty and we had to put together our own tableware and cutlery from un-used pieces from the dirty tables.
See my earlier review
Very dog friendly. Staff were very welcoming
All good.
The staff were friendly, the hotel was clean and comfortable. Food was good.
Staff were so helpful. We had a dog with us and they could not have been more supportive and helpful to see she was looked after. Good breakfast and lovely pub atmosphere in the bar, which provides a second dining area. Small swimming pool attached which was refreshing in the hot weather. Lovely gardens surrounding the house.

Lovely staff, wonderful breakfast, really enjoyed the swim facilities and the room was clean and comfortable!
Just a little far out for us as we were on public transport! Double check the bus timetable and plan around that, or driving it, you'll have no trouble! :)
Where it is situated was perfect for our needs. Nice and clean. Staff very friendly and helpful
Lovely hotel, rooms nice, clean, bar/restaurant and lounge area nice. Games room needs some tlc. Food was nice, we had lunch, evening meal and breakfast and no issues. Staff were pleasant 😊
Room was far, far too hot. We couldn't really keep the window open as it faced out onto the roof of the kitchen/dining room which had steps directly up from the garden (fire escape) so only managed to get approx 2 hrs of sleep. Had to go outside at 3am to cool down.
Very friendly staff. Historical building in good location.
Rooms a little tired. Car park needs marking out properly to allow guests to have a safe parking space.
Privacy and location
The fire didn’t work even after help from staff
Good meal at The Huntsman. Manageress who was friendly and efficient when we arrived Saturday afternoon. Allocation of Room 7. Four-poster bed.
Young men losing their control over alcohol at the bar of The Huntsman on Saturday night - should have been asked to leave as they were swearing and had broken two beer glasses. Breakfast on the Sunday morning wasn't particularly well managed or stocked. We arrived at 9:30, thirty minutes before end of service. There were no tables cleanly set and staff seemingly wandering around not particularly doing anything. There were no pastries and the kitchen manager just shrugged his shoulders and grumpily said "that's the lot". No orange juice without asking. Very little fruit salad left. If you didn't want a cooked breakfast you would struggle to find anything. All in all, it gave the distinct feeling of "we know breakfast is included in the price so we won't make an effort with quantity or variety; if you're not here at 08:30 then tough". Very underwhelming and disappointing. Finally, if you are going to provide a hairdryer in the room, please clean fluff from the air vent occasionally - and please attend to the shower head.
Nice place, excellent location
Parking was difficult
Love the setting, we have drove past it many times. Fantastic location. Staff were amazing. Keely you are a dream. So helpful & accommodating. Good food, tasty dinner & great breakfast. Everyone loved our Mo, who was made to feel so welcome. Bar area hosted locals which I like. Friendly people.
Honesty, nothing I can really say.
Great location. Super staff. Big clean room. Comfortable bed. Nice view of the river. Good food at dinner and breakfast. Pool great for a swim after a day's walking. Lockers in leisure area would help.
Good welcome and lovely rooom on the ground floor. Evening meal menu was good and the food excellent. Breakfast was good and in keeping with similar hotels.

Staff are attentive and strive to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Breakfast was varied and hot. Good selection available for dinner and dog welcome in most areas.
Wheelchair access difficult due to stairs but staff did all they could to ensure we felt welcome offering alternative room for easier access.
Very good,lots and well cooked
It was so hot,not hotels fault but fans would have been good
The location is great. You are away from the crowds but you can do a lovely short walk along a lovely path that leads to lakeside. Obviously you do have to pay to get on a boat, but you would do that anyway I guess. It has a nice bar area. The staff are polite. The food was good.
The pool was being used for swimming lessons. So disappointed 😔. But hey it's good to learn to swim. Our room was terrible. It was a very hot day and the sun was beating in through the window and the curtains wouldn't close properly..they were hanging off, I mean badly. I had to stand on a chair and try and hook them up. Who does that!. Luckily we were only staying one night. There was a line of cobwebs along the ceiling which could easily have been cleaned with a duster.
Good location
Unfortunately in the hottest few days of the year so far there was no aircon in the room.
The carvery, the breakfast, the beer garden and the room with a view
The water pressure and the road noise
Awful service
Awful service
Bar staff great but receptionist not the happiest
We stayed for one night for Cartmel Races on 26th June. When booking several months in advance, a very helpful lady assured us that one of our three rooms would be ready early so we could get changed after travelling for a few hours. Unfortunately, the experience on arrival was the complete opposite. The receptionist had no record of the arrangement and was extremely rude and dismissive. She repeatedly refused to help unless we paid a £25 early check‑in fee, even though she couldn’t guarantee the room would be ready before our taxi. Her tone was passive‑aggressive, she interrupted us several times, and she shut down every attempt we made to find a solution. We asked about changing in the spa area and were told it was “extremely busy with swimming lessons,” which seemed unlikely on a Friday morning during school hours. We ended up getting changed in the ladies’ toilets in 30°C heat. We finally received our keys 15 minutes before our taxi but were told we couldn’t actually use the room, meaning we had to unpack at 11:30pm when we returned. To add to this, when we checked out the next morning, the same receptionist was on duty and I overheard her speaking to other guests in the same rude, dismissive tone — this time simply because they were asking about the Wi‑Fi. It seems this wasn’t an isolated incident. The hotel itself is in a lovely setting in Newby Bridge. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and a good size, and breakfast was excellent. It’s a shame that the reception experience overshadowed what could have been a really enjoyable stay.
Amazing stay, beautiful location, great staff, amazing room, super breakfast. Hidden gem- will definitely stay again.
Friendly staff, always ready to help and advise. Very relaxing in the lounge, beautiful veiws from windows. Lovely breakfast in nice setting. We were really fortunate with the weather which put icing on holiday.
Parking car was sometimes difficult.
The location of the hotel was great, easy to get to the rest of the lakes from there and a lovely walk starts just over the road. The bar staff were lovely and the outside area was lovely to have a drink outside. The room was a great size with tea and coffee facilities, we had a gorgeous garden view, the room was dusty around the curtains and the carpet was filthy. The room was quiet. The price was about right given it included breakfast, which was of a good standard. All in all a nice base for our trip.
The room was very clean, large, beautiful views. And the bartender who got me a fan was lovely and kind. Great location.
The lady working the front desk when I arrived was very rude. She clearly didn’t want to be there and rolled her eyes when I asked if there was a fan I could have in my room (it was mid heat wave and there was no air conditioning). The dinner was average at best.
The grounds at the back were very nice and unusual. The hotel was genuinely dog-friendly. There was a nice lawn at the front. The staff were friendly. The location was good - near to a tourist steam train and a great motor museum.
One BIG problem for me was that the wi-fi was absolutely awful. Despite having modern equipment (modern laptop and modern iPhone), logging on was very unreliable, and often the signal was so weak that i would be logged out or a connection wold fail or be so slow. This was with basic stuff like emails. If you don't need wi-fi; then the hotel was Ok. Otherwise, its not for you unless they significantly improve the wi-fi.
Location and setting were good,
Sausage won't cooked enough, Bacon was a bit hard, And our shower was too hot and we couldn't turn it down!
Parking was easy enough
Swimming changing rooms or general set up. Feel like the pictures of the hotel were off. All seemed a bit tired in the hotel to be honest. The games in the sitting room were incomplete and almost like a junk pile. Food was really nice. Bit pricey for the hotel. The best way I can describe it is like the restaurant and hotel don't match up.
The food was amazing and we enjoyed the atmosphere in the bar very friendly bar man
Pool area could be nicer
This is a super hotel and as we wanted to take our dog with us to the lake district we found this hotel especially accommodating. The room was a very good size, warm and very clean. Food was good quality and cooked to order. Overall the staff and atmosphere were just right for a relaxing holiday. Many thanks to you all.
The hotel was excellent. Very comfortable throughout. The room clean and warm. Staff were first class. We will definitely stay there again.
The whole hotel was great.
Location was brilliant and pet and child friendly hotel
It was very hot and the rooms had no air con. Our room looked out back onto the kitchen and bins - not very picturesque.
