Staff were very friendly and helpful especially checking in. Gym and pool very good but could be open sub hour or two later in the evening
WiFi was absolutely shocking and non existent in certain areas. Golf shop should have a selection of hire clubs available
Location and cleanliness
Nothing
Size of room, cleanliness, friendly reception.
Pillows... Huge bed with 2 lumpy pillows that had seen better days.
Room was clean ,But could do with a refresh walls scuffed/stained.
Breakfast was ok but fresh fruit salad could of been better summer fruits looked like defrosted to me,Coffee machine spilt milk all over floor this morning twice until staff were found to deal with problem.Fried breakfast was ok but rather than put large portions of Sausage/bacon/hash browns out at once I feel smaller prtions more regular would of been better keeping it fresh
Good location.
Was booked for a double cosy room (411) but the bed was tiny for two people, certainly not the double displayed on the photos. The bed was also pushed up against a wall so no bedside table. Room was very warm and unable to have the window open due to constant mechanical noise from outside day/night. No bottled water in the room which would have been a basic gesture, particularly as it was so warm in there. Bar and restaurant staff also kept talking to one another across the bar whilst patrons were in the bar; I also witnessed the occasional swear word from the barman and a couple of staff whisper and giggle whilst looking towards an elderly lady on a mobility scooter.
Service was great, majority of staff helpful. The facilities were spot on the pool and spa the gem.
We are likely to return however we will probably avoid the restaurant. The service was good however the food was not at the level we would have expected, issues with dinner and the hot breakfast was warm at best.
I’ve stayed here a few times in the past. This was my most worst experience ever at this hotel. The leisure facilities are good and that it. It’s all downhill after that.
Surprised they call themselves a 4 star hotel. The rooms I stayed at and the entire floor and area, I would classify it as a roadside motel at best!
Good, v large double bed. Easy parking.
In a large bedroom, there was no luggage rack for our 2 suitcases: I had to use the coffee table, & my wife the floor ! The usual big bath-towels: nowhere to hang them overnight to dry out. Net curtain: hanging loose. Bedside light flickering, presumably from a loose connection.
The grounds and facilities
The room was very dusty
All the food was excellent. The usual choice of breakfast items. The coffee available at breakfast was too strong for me, but the latte served in the evening was perfect.
The bed was very uncomfortable, and the pillows were lumpy. I didn't sleep well. This was disappointing.
Location is great. Staff polite and helpful. Food good quality
Hotel needs a refurb! Wall paper peeling off bedroom walls, dated in most areas. Stains on carpets and curtains. Bed was broken so had to move rooms. No water in the rooms. Plastic plants! Shame as has huge potential
The grounds was beautiful
The noise from outside our room Lack of correct information I did submit a complaint email 2 weeks ago with no response.
Great suite Walpole suite 311.
Dirty and stained carpet People banging doors as Usual Lots of noise come from the mechanics of the hotel.
The hotel needs a major refurbishment and the room was dirty and uninspiring
Grubby and down at heel. Food mediocre. For the price we paid there should be a daily room cleaning service. Needs a major refurbishment.
Lovely hotel, good facilities, pool and outside seating
The bar menu was very basic
Fantastic pool and spa, friendly staff, 24 hour reception, room clean and bigger than expected, nice bar and restaurant food, good location in central Norfolk (as long as you have a car)
Room was quiet most of the time, but if there’s a wedding or event in the function room, the music can be very loud until midnight. I’d go back, but would ask for a room away from the function room.
We were not advised on booking that there were no lifts. Our room was up 2 flights of stairs, the 2nd being very steep. I suffer from Fibromyalgia and struggle with stairs, but we were advised we had no choice at reception and that there were only a few steps. I was not able to use the spa as I couldn't face using the stairs again. There was also no room service. The room was described as 'cosy' but it seemed more like a motel than an upmarket hotel. We will not be staying again! Oh and in the restaurant and bar, you had to pay as you go - you could not charge anything to your room!
Location near to Wroxham
My room 510 had some sort of noise outside generating eg air conditioner or such like making sleep impossible. Had to ask reception staff several times to get shower gel replacement as it was missing from room. Premier Inn much better. Dinner was spoilt by very rowdy and hugely noisy large group of men. Place felt very downmarket. Bedroom was cramped and stifling hot.
Its a lovely setting and the hotel is very well kept.
It was summer when we stayed and the lack of air conditioning was very difficult. I couldn't sleep due to how hot it was.
Staff moved our room to accommodate that I am 9 months pregnant and couldn't cope with the stairs. Staff were very friendly and polite.
Area
Room very hot, even though a fan was provided. Buffet breakfast poor...very dry, even the fried eggs when they came direct from the kitchen were cold and hard.
Pool area, public rooms, breakfast and dinner
Bedroom very small and bed ( small double) uncomfortable. Particularly disliked the window being covered in opaque stick on plastic as if it was a bathroom.
..
The staff and the facilities
Toilet flush was hard to press in …minor fault
Worst experience in all of the 20+years I have stayed there
Sadly, very short of staff on that occasion so unable to give the usual standard of help and support we're used to receiving from Sprowston Manor. The promise of a refund for that awful experience has still not been forthcoming and now all staff seem to be denying everything that happened on that day, including the horrendous noise from the bathroom taps, the great inconvenience of trying to get changed to a different room and the difficulties involved in moving my 95 year old mum from the 3rd to 1st floor along with all our luggage and no staff to help. Hugely disappointing after so many years of very happily staying at this hotel.
The location
Issue with billing on arrival, there was a known issue with the system yet the inference was it was a customer issue who needed to prove via showing bank statements that a payment had been made, rather than admit the system wasn't working and that is a hotel problem not a customers! It's a hotel & spa, but no robe or slippers supplied in the room, when asked the answer was "we are very busy, if there aren't any at the spa we might be able to get you one tomorrow" not good enough for a spa, if you won't provide enough robes then don't offer the facility. Very limited food in the bar, pizza or burger, not great but not awful. Generally customer service was short and sharp, no interest in the customer. We left a day early, wasn't even asked if our stay was ok, or why we were leaving. Spa staff were more interested in talking to each other than a customer. The hotel industry is struggling, and it's not a surprise if you behave how the staff did at this hotel. This was our second stay after a good experience first time, but this will be our last. The hotel is tired and in need of a makeover, paintwork is chipped, carpets worn and dull, generally just a bit old and tired.
Facilities and location
Facilities where great
Rooms where dated on really warm
The swimming pool was nice
The whole place was very tired, in poor repair and just not well presented in some places. No smart to so the choice of programmes was poor. The room smelt of damp. Just felt like the rooms needed a big upgrade.
Large rooms, and bathroom, beautiful bath, and view from room.
Very dirty furnishings within the room, etc curtains, lamps and lampshades. Also no toiletries as promised on the booking reference. VERY uncomfortable bed, and only 1 pillow provided per person.
The staff were good and the property was nice
When you spend all that money on a one night stay I’d expect air on in the room, instead we had a fan that just made noise rather than cold air, my pulled pork on my burger however was lovely and cold, the lemon posset didn’t even taste of lemon, a disappointing stay all round for our wedding anniversary unfortunately
Only the pool.
When we arrived out room smelt very strong of cleaning products. We opened windows, put fan on,went out for a few hours came back and the strong was still very strong. I have asthma,my chest was tight i used inhalers, we all started getting headache. My husband complained and we were offered 2 seperate rooms for 1 night only. I got very upset this is our 2nd stay here and we didn't have these issues before. We declined as we didn't want to be separated and moving back and forth between rooms. We were given a 2nd fan, and asked for room not to be serviced during our stay. The following day we asked cleaner outside for towels, etc. I saw her spraying the carpet, i asked her wat she was using because it was very strong and what she uses to clean bathroom, surfaces etc. She said she didnt speak English. Underneath the beds it's fraying, their was a feather on the carpet from 1st day. The room was very hot despite 2 fans. For the cost this is unacceptable. I would like a refund. Your hotel is in desperate need of room renovations, including air conditioning and sockets by the bed. £487 for 3 nights of this last summer holiday before my son goes back to school.
The receptionist on the day/night of our visit was very helpful. The furnishings were wonderful. Brilliant Breakfast.
Facilities were nice like the pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room very relaxed
No battery's for the remote for the TV and staff couldn't find any said they would bring some but unfortunately nothing. Room was a little smaller than expected with the bathroom being hard to get into as the door was very tight against the bed when opening, other than that it was a very nice stay
Nothing really.
Dated look. Room furniture was heavily chipped, wallpaper peeling off with the room. Only two pillows for a super king size bed.
Breakfast was hot and delicious
EVERYTHING!
Nothing not to like
Staff, location
Blocked toliet
Good leisure facilities. Free to use . Room was ready early so could check in before 3 pm
All good
The room was lovely and decently sized. Definitely worth the money.
Comfort of hotel. Style was great. Good facility for golfers if requested. Easy parking
No painted edges on outdoor steps. 2 extra pillows asked for after arrival but never supplied. Change of towels requested and were not received.. Evenutually we had to collect them from reception, being told that the hotel was in short supply pf towels!! Last night dinner and breakfast were ordered, and paid for on our arrival, but we still asked for payment when we had eaten. Booked for dinner at 8pm, and when we arrived were toldtwo starters were off the menu, three main courses and three deserts.
Having read some of the reviews I was expecting the hotel to be dated and less than in the cleanliness stakes. Firstly yes it is quite old fashioned inside but in a 19:00s like my grandparents house way that was actually really nice. It was spotlessly clean, had very thing we needed in the room including a fan an iron etc. The beds were super comfortable and the linen smelled nice.and The room was well noise insulated so we didn’t get woken up (nor did our dog) by other people coming and going. The staff were friendly and helpful. The location is fabulous and great for walking the dog. The dog was made welcome.
Everything from hotel location to room and breakfast.
Nothing here.
Lovely location
The bedroom furniture was very tired
The house and decor in the public areas were lovely. The pool was nice but a little cold.
The bedroom is old fashioned, no air con either and the room was dirty. Dust everywhere and the window frame black with grime. The net curtain was hanging off when we arrived, we had to ask twice for them to come and fix it. The staff are not trained properly, most of them seemed to be school leavers without any experience. Breakfast was hideous and service terrible.
Very dog friendly and all them rooms were kept together on the ground floor. The grounds were gorgeous and staff lovely. The breakfast was top notch.
Nothing
Room was nice having a lounge area.
Breakfast was poor, food not fresh left sitting in dishes for long periods, especially eggs. Second morning chips served at breakfast, who has chips for breakfast. Fruit juices were very watered down, may as well just put out plain water. Evening meal was very average and disappointed that we had to pay before leaving restaurant, could not add to room bill. Tv remote wouldn’t work to start had to connect battery properly. No hot chocolate sachets in room reception said they are not supplied and to go to Tesco down the road.
It looked nice from the outside, the staff were nice on the hotel reception
The pool was murkey and not very clean. The room smelt musty and was really hot, no Aircon, very loud and old fan in the room. We waited 45 minutes for some extra pillows. The food in the restaurant was terrible. The breakfast wasn't well equipped, for example, the muffins were soggy (maybe not defrosted properly?), there were lots of things that hadn't been replenished.
Good stay overall. Spa was clean and enjoyable without being amazing. Hotel has a good location and employees are helpful. Restaurant food and team really good and attentive. Golf facilities and course very good
Lovely room on 3rd floor however significant issue with heat on this floor and especially in the bedrooms. No fans and a useless tower cooler with missing controller. No air conditioning at all. Would be helpful if good quality fans were supplied as it wasn't more than 22 outside.
Looks nice from the outside. Reception staff was lovely as were other members of staff we saw around.
Room was terrible. Pokey. Double bed was a glorified single with two pillows barely fitting side by side. Black mould on the window and a broken safety catch topped it off, although given the view was of the roof top and building opposite it wasn’t much to see. There was also a punch hole in the wall (like someone had put their fist through it) and bathroom smelt of mildew with cracks in the plastic panelling. For £145 a night I expected a lot nicer. Even a premier inn looked like the ritz in comparison. We were offered a suite if we paid £20 more, but there wasn’t a chance I was going to give the hotel anymore money for a room. We were moved without fuss to a new room at the very top of the property (500 and something) through labyrinthine corridors and up steep stairs covered in dog hair. I love the history of an old property, but this just looked drab everywhere. The bathroom had hairs in the bath, and mouldy sealant, but at least the bed was an actual double. Such a shame as we were looking forward to our stay while in the area for a wedding.
Location
No air con
Price matched facilities
Update needed. Milk with coffee making facilities in room. Room 409 was sweltering, appreciated the fan.
Breakfast was fine
The evening food was virtually inedible, very poor and people getting turned away from the restaurant because it was fully booked, the room was stuffy with no air-conditioning and the windows didn't open at all, only 2 pillows in the room. Swimming pool looked murky so we gave that a miss.
Staff were great, especially the waitress in the morning, she was adorable.
Had ordered fizz for the room on arrival, but Had to ask for it as wasn't in the room on arrival. Decorating in 137was a little dated.
Spa was best part of are stay
Slow service
Location style rooms
Breakfast not much left fried eggs rubbery…. Disabled toilet in spa drains blocked black mess from drains - reported it Pools lovely
The leisure facilities are great and the staff were very helpful and pleasant.
Although it partially suited my needs, the hotel is not centrally located so you are a little detached from everything else. My room was quite remote from the central area of the hotel and shopping quite a rabbits warren of hallways.
Lovely location, set in lovely grounds.
We had 3 flights of stairs up to our room. Beds were extremely hard, I think the mattresses could do with being replaced.
Pool facilities and generally the building, like outside is beautiful
Its need some love. Toilets barely flush, wallpaper and curtains have holes. It really just needs some money spending in the rooms
Loved that it has access to swimming pool and leisure area.
The positives out weighed the negatives. Great location. Great facilities included in the price.
Excellent
Really nice
Good location and grounds. Very helpful, and pleasant front desk staff.
Room decor is very tired. No bed valance just tatty divan. Stained carpet, holes in curtain lining letting in light. Overly warm and no air con and could only partially open the window so got little sleep.
Terrible breakfast with poor quality food. Greasy and overpriced. Rooms were dusty
Swimming pool was warm. Kids enjoyed the pool.
Lady on reception was rude. Room is not cleaned unless you ask at reception. There is no notice to put on the door and information was not provided at check in to ask at reception if you want room cleaned. The room facilities i.e toilet roll, cups, glasses etc... ran out. Asked twice at reception for replenish. Waited over 2 hours for the items and that was by going back to reception again to ask. The lady on reception said we had to get the cups ourselves from the restaurant. Room was hot. Stains on most areas including lamp shades, curtains. The plug in the bath tub kept gurgling loudly during the night omitting an awful smell from it. Food was limited and did not taste very nice.
Good size of the room. Clean and comfortable. Swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna included.
Super pool - really nice size although it got busy. Good sauna, grounds are lovely and the old build has bags of character.
The staff were unhelpful and inexperienced. Felt like the management had given up supporting them. We couldn’t get our room made up because of staff shortages, you have to book it!! The restaurant was expensive and very little care taken from waiting staff - again we were told to wait for drinks because it was busy. Wine eventually arrived and was plonked in the table while the waitress skittered off to serve other people’s dinner. Common areas feel dated, single room was tiny with a view of air con units! We asked for our two rooms to be close together and then were placed literally at opposite ends of the hotel. Just really poor at making us feel welcome when we had spent a lot of money on staying there.
Staff were lovely and helpful.
Curtains were hanging off rail in bedroom.
Breakfast. The bar and lounge areas. The grounds were great and well maintained
Our stay from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd August. The room 410. One bedside light wasn't working. The plug in the sink didn't work. We wouldn't say the bed was a standard double more like a one-and-a-half size. The food. The evening meal was not good. We both had fish which was luke warm when it arrived. In our opinion, the vegetables were undercooked and again weren't particularly hot when they arrived. Reception. On the Saturday,, we asked at reception where the bus stop was. The young lady didn't know whether it was to the left or right of the entrance!! In any event, we walked to the entrance, there was no path which would make it extremely dangerous to walk on such a busy road. In the time there, we only saw one bus travelling in the Wroxham. In the end, we drove to the park and ride and went to Norwich on a bus. Your hotel details need to be more specific about the use of buses. Finally. We thought the staff were very efficient but generally did not appear to be too happy. A smiling face and a cheerful good morning etc works wonders. This comment does not apply to the barman on duty on the Friday night ot our arrival. He was great. We both feel this hotel has great potential but felt it lacked a friendly feeling.and left us feeling if only...". Will we return? Doubtful.
Location/ surroundings were excellent. Breakfast was good
Room was very basic. Rooms not serviced daily. Asked for extra pillows, clean towels. These were not provided. Ran out of toilet roll. Wardrobe inadequate for 1 person let alone 2.
Excellent spa facilities. Pool, sauna, steam room and hot tub all fantastic
Staff in the restaurant friendly but extremely slow service
location
having to request cleaning my room
The pool
Pillows
Pool was warm
Rooms were way too warm. No AC but also no fans and windows screwed shut.
The swimming pool is perfect for early morning relaxing exercise before breakfast. The restaurant serves excellent quality dinner and staffs are friendly.
The bedroom is spacious and the bed is comfortable. The bedroom has no 13v USB charging provisions which is disappointing. The cleaning staff could do better if she vacuumed around all furnitures closely.
Have been visiting Sprowston manor for 40 years know it well It’s general state has declined since being taken over by Britannia the windows need cleaning and other areas need attention but we like it there Concerned that it could be neglected but hope the company realise it is a lovely place that needs to be cared for
Cleaning standards are not great and having to ask for a room refresh every day is not acceptable
Het buitengeuren
Vieze gangen. Spinnenwebben. Ergens zover mogelijk van de receptie een kamer gekregen.
Leaving. Very disappointed.
It felt unloved, needed some attention lacked cleanliness and poor condition to the room decor. Dirty throughout, torn sheets, damaged bedding and curtains and dirty cutlery in the room. Not acceptable. Needs to do better
The room was outdated, the fan was poor. In need of refurbishment, (401)
Located a few minutes away from the city centre so was easily accessible by car and was a beautiful property visually. So many activities and facilities. All staff were very friendly and happy to direct you to where you requested. Room was very clean and everything was easy to use/find ( e.g. hairdryer, iron, TV ).
The room’s location respectively to the layout of the property made transporting out luggage inconvenient ( narrow doorways, steep stairs and sharp corners ). The layout of the room meant that the wall began to slope quite steeply where the end of the bed began making it difficult for whoever was sleeping wall side to get in and out of bed if there was someone sleeping beside them.
Travelled with 94 year old mother who really required a lift to get to the room but unfortunately that wasn’t possible. Other than that the hotel was lovely.
Lifts with accessibility to all areas of the hotel.
Location is ideal and the hotel sits on lovely grounds.
It was so hot in my room even with fans that they provided. The rooms need upgrading and if using something to make the beds more comfy, use a proper mattress topper and not a single duvet. Also need more pillows for the single bed.
Good choice of breakfast. We arrived quite late and left quite early the following day so didn't have time to use other facilities.
The room was incredibly hot and it's extremely difficult to open the windows. Eventually we managed and it cooled down enough to sleep after a couple of hours.
Family room booked, 2 towels given for 3 people and one of the towels was filthy. Two glasses in bathroom and 2 cups were also dirty with marks and coffee residue. Beds seriously uncomfortable with mattress protectors scrunched up. One of my children slept on the floor at one point as it was comfier. Room was also very hot - known it would be warm with this weather and normally a really good fan is provided which helps. The fan in the room was awful and didn’t ease the heat at all. Pleased we only booked one night and not two.
The swimming pool and spa and sauna . The food was good to bar nice customers service good location nice. Rooms clean lovely bed
Nothing . Could have put glasses in room.
Size of the room
Lack of room cleaning. didn't like that there was no room cleaning/checking for supplies during stay. Overall cleaniness of the hotel was a little lacking. Dusty carpets, dirty lift.
Pool area lovely, outside space good
Limited menu, hotel bar not open during the day
No air con in rooms and WIFI was not very good
The pool
No air conditioning
The pool area was very nice, and the hotel's location is ideal for visiting BeWilderwood and ROARR, the rooms are spacious, and ideal with a small family like ours.
Our experience at this hotel was highly disappointing, primarily due to poor service and a subpar breakfast. The breakfast was a complete waste of money, food items constantly ran out (beans, hash browns, eggs), and the wait times for replenishment were ridiculous. To make matters worse, the dining staff were frequently moody and dismissive about it too. My advice to future guests is to skip their breakfast meal entirely, there are plenty of amazing local breakfast places nearby that offer much better quality and value. Unfortunately, the front desk service wasn't much better. Right from arrival, the check-in process felt incredibly unwelcoming, as if our presence was an inconvenience to the staff rather than a standard check-in. The lack of basic hospitality made for a disappointing stay.
Location and building wonderful Staff were kind and friendly Very clean Would definitely return
We had a lot of doors and stairs to our room. Next time I would request a room on a lower level.
Good location for north Norfolk and Norwich city centre
I stayed here for 3 nights. The “Cosy Double Room” was tiny, someone else’s hair shampoo sachet was in the shower and I found a long dark hair in the bed. No fridge. No air conditioning. Ineffective fan. I had to move the furniture round to gain a small amount of floor space. Ate in the restaurant one evening and the risotto arrived lukewarm. The bill was wrong - I was charged someone else’s bill and had to get a refund. Most staff were stressed and unhelpful. The only exception was the reception manager who was excellent and helped me on the last day.
The staff were friendly and helpfull
Carpets wer in need of a clean.
Breakfast ok room Hot and packed
The bedroom was awful for£180 no wardobe?
Swimming pool was lovely staff where great
Bed was to hard
Breakfast ok but at peak time, 8:30-9am, cooked items were empty such as scrambled eggs with queue forming. Very very hot in the area where you get food. Swimming pool good for kids to have a dip.
Temperature in room was unbearable. Floor 1. One squeaking old fan in the room didn’t help. The hotel seriously needs air conditioning. It’s hot everywhere from the restaurant to the lobby but the bedrooms are unbearable. Still awake at 3am with all windows and curtains open. Worst nights sleep I’ve ever had at a hotel in my life. Room wasn’t clean with visible layers of dust under the bed which could easily be resolved with a Hoover. Tired and stained curtains, carpet dirty and worn. Overall it needs a refresh in the hotel rooms. Old and tired and dirty.
The setting the building was amazing the staff were friendly
The room It was very small the bed was very uncomfortable the lay out of the room wasn’t great the double bed was pushed up against the wall and even though the shower and toilet were clean the space was really small aswell
Loved the large bed in the double room the room was really great including a fridge and hairdryer
There was nothing to dislike
The location is good, the grounds are nice. That's about it.
The room was very small. It was grubby, dirty and, lacked basic elements. For example, there was no bedside table or even a shelf. It turns out that you have to request that your room is serviced. You must do this daily, before 11:00 and, you literally have to select the individual tasks you would like to be carried out by the housekeeping staff. I didn't notice the sign announcing this until I checked out. No mention of it was made at check in. Despite having travelled to almost 100 countries and despite having stayed in hundreds of hotels, I've never come across this. This policy of not systematically and routinely cleaning rooms as a matter of daily housekeeping and hygiene, is evident, the rooms look and feel like they need a deep clean. The room that my son stayed in was in a similar state. Based on the state of the rooms, we declined to eat in the hotel. When we mentioned this to the front desk staff, they were indifferent. Almost as if they'd heard it all before but, had no power to change anything. The bed had a mattress that looked and felt like it belonged in a camper van, circa 1967. To try to make it more comfortable it had a mattress topper. But, the topper was about one foot too short and didn't cover the entire mattress. The duvet cover had what looked like a dried blood spot on it. Pretty gross. The hotel is part of the Britannia Group, which probably explains everything. I wasn't aware until I checked in. I last stayed here when it was owned by Marriott Hotels.
The room was lovely. Even though the property was busy it wasn’t noisey.
The room was unbearably hot. No air con. Breakfast was pretty basic, but reasonably priced. No EV charger.
