Driveway to the hotel was stunning Man on reception and the bar was very pleasant
Arrived in the dark, bedroom curtains already closed. In the morning we opened the curtains to find a post it note on the windowsill, which stated' Do not open the window due to wasps nest outside window. Good job we didn't wake in the night and open window as there were plenty of wasps visible. Reported room 38 to reception on leaving. As this should be dealt with asap or the room closed.
lovely staff nothing was too much trouble
property could do with updating but there are works being done.
Staying at the Cosy Hotel was a truly charming experience—it felt like stepping back in time into the elegant atmosphere of a classic English country villa. The whole place is warm and beautifully maintained. A special mention goes to the bed, which was incredibly comfortable and ensured a great night’s sleep. I would definitely come back!
Staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful.
Perhaps wider menu in the week, as quite limited.
Location perfect for Ironbridge and Telford with free and easy parking. Breakfast was excellent with both Full English, Continental and other options. Reception and breakfast staff were very friendly and attentive with requests happily accommodated. The Manor House bedroom was large with ample space and storage, hot water was almost immediately on-tap. Swimming pool and gym facilities were excellent.
The Manor House bedroom was too dark and needed extra lighting for reading. The curtains were torn and needing replacement. The basin and bath were is need of plunging to speed up emptying of the water.
The staff were exceptionally helpful and professional. We asked for breakfast at 8 am sharp as we had our daughters graduation and they delivered! Very old building. New owners are still upgrading it.
Decor in one wing was very tired but its work in progress
Good food, reasonable price and good facilities, pool and jacuzzi.
They managed to move us to a different room as the previous room smells cigarette smokes. Outside including the main stair/door to reception has lots of cigarette buts as well. Staff are friendly, but cleanliness could be improved. There's no towels available in the pool side and some old used towels are visible in the container, looks untidy and needs cleaning.
Title: What a Pleasant Surprise for a 3-Star Hotel! We weren't expecting much given the 3-star rating, but this hotel completely exceeded our expectations. The staff were absolutely excellent throughout our stay, especially Shabbir and Jemka, who went above and beyond and offered genuinely 5-star service. Their warmth, attentiveness, and willingness to help made all the difference to our visit. It's rare to find service this good, and it's clear the team here really cares about their guests. Highly recommend, and a big thank you to Shabbir and Jemka for making our stay so memorable!
Lovely staff. Chilled atmosphere. Comfortable rooms. I really enjoyed the full english breakfast with lovely fresh eggs! The pool/ spa was great and much appreciated. The countryside location- very peaceful even though 2 mins drive from Shifnal town centre and 5 mins from the motorway!
The owners are busy updating rooms as the hotel needs some TLC. No lift to first floor rooms.
Room size was HUGE We had a four poster bed which, whilst it looked lovely, was a bit uncomfortable and very squeaky ! Breakfast was good, but not a huge choice. Lovely swimming pool, with sauna.
The light switch in the bedroom was over by the blocked off entrance door. The step to climb into the bath needs to be a little higher, as unable to climb into the bath easily from it (short legs) The blind in the bathroom was very basic and did not cover the sides of the window. Decor is a bit dated and in places could do with a lick of paint. Wifi very patchy
It is a time capsule.
The staff were all very helpful and pleasant, especially at breakfast. The hotel was clean throughout considering how run down it is. They are starting to spruce it up under new management but needs a big makeover. Good value for money including breakfast
The vegetarian sausages at breakfast were inedible!! Rest of the breakfast was great. It is very run down so don't expect too much while they are revamping it.
Location was good. Quiet.
Shabby, but then the price does reflect it. WiFi was poor and had to use my own hotspot / data in a poor signal area. TV difficult to use because the remote wouldnt work with it properly.
Love this classical building and if you fan of historical places you will like it. The staff was amazing and proactive. The breakfast was very nice and loved sitting in the garden in peace The pool and sauna is brilliant option with children
This place not for everyone. If you picky you won’t see the beauty of the past. Unfortunately our window couldn’t be closed properly but it was warm outside so that didn’t caused problems It could help a good carpet cleaning but I find it beautiful as I love old buildings
Breakfast and the general service was great
The property was affa tired, our toilet was loose, broken seat, broken shower head (they did fix that) behind the bedboard was the switch for lights that kept going on and off, the door key kept not working and we had to keep asking for a new key. there was a mushty smell (tired carpet, wet carpet etc.) The Spa was tired looking as well, the turkish sauna had a sewer smell when you stepped in. the rubber from the roof windows were dangling down about to drop in the pool.
Lots to eat for breakfast
Breakfast was very good!! Staff were super friendly
Expensive for what it is.
Lovely old building and grounds with real history behind it. Our suite was amazing and so spacious for the money was unbelievably good value. Really friendly staff and overall good facilities.
It was so sad to see such a beautiful building being run down like this. The new owners need to sink some serious investments into this to make a truly grand place to stay. Just little things that would take a minute or so to do such as emptying ashtrays, sorting the outside tables and umbrellas neatly and hoovering the halls and stairs daily would be a start I got the feeling the staff just do the bare minimum of their roles. If I worked there the outside space would be clean, tidy and looking good for the patrons.
I have nothing postive to say.
From the moment we walked in, it was clear that this hotel was barely functioning. Our room was not ready at check-in time. When we finally entered, the window was wide open and could not be closed because it had actually been screwed open. I contacted reception, and a maintenance man came to fix it. He did not speak English, but eventually managed to screw it shut. Unfortunately, this left wood shavings all over the floor, with no attempt made to clean them up. The window glass also did not properly fit the frame, leaving visible gaps around the edges where you could see outside. The carpet was covered in numerous stains, and there was a strong smell of sewage or drains coming from the bathroom. The bathroom itself did not look remotely sanitary. There was a huge desk that served no real purpose, along with a chair that had a large rip in it. The four-poster bed initially looked spectacular, but on closer inspection it was incredibly rickety and felt as though it was moments away from falling apart. It genuinely seemed dangerous. The child's bed had not been made up either. When housekeeping eventually came to prepare the sofa bed, that was the final straw. The bed did not look safe to sleep on, and the mattress was extremely thin. Needless to say, we did not stay the night and left the hotel. Took a long battle to get a full refund. Manager was rude and did not even come to inspect the room.
The main thing we appreciated was the staff , how nice it was to be greeted with a smile and a friendly staff member. Everyone one of them and especially the lady in the restaurant. The swimming pool and spa was also worth using. All very positive and very good value for the money.
Not a lot other than it probably does need a bit of maintenance and sprucing up.
We have stayed here a few times now. The accommodation is tired but improvements are being made all the time. The staff are extremely helpful and the added use of the spa facilities and breakfast make it exceptionally good value for money. The hotel is clean but needs a lot of investment to make it more comfortable.
Laundry and items cleared from the rooms during room change over were not cleared ahead of check-in which made the corridors look unsightly and difficult to manoeuvre around
Great building, bedroom and leisure facilities
Grounds will need updating
Place smelt awful, was dirty and unkept
Room was very filthy, halls had furniture that had holes in and were dirty. The smell throughout the hotel and rooms were extremely unpleasant.
Staff were faultless. They did everything to make our stay the best it could be.
Tired facilities, decor and upkeep
Decent , breakfast was incredible
Needs a refresh , old and musty
Staff were really helpful happy to to assist with anything we needed
Liked everything
Staff were welcoming, was quiet and had a swimming pool. Bed was comfortable.
Shower was shabby; wondered how often the pool is cleaned, disappointed with eggs at breakfast - scrambled appeared to be a fried egg that had been bashed & fried eggs were over cooked. Was not able to open bedroom windows. TV had a black line down the middle when watching & one of the bedside lamps did not work.
The family room on the first floor was really light and plenty of space given the weather was atrocious when we were there and not wishing to go out,! The swimming pool was fabulous. Evening menu was limited but breakfast was great.
For the price don't expect luxury. The property is in the process of being done up by new owners though I loved much of what had not yet been touched, however there are areas that really do need doing as they are somewhat tired as mentioned in other reviews, but not awful.
I quite often stay here when I’m the area and it went down hill quite a bit and also became very expensive. This visit was great. The place has been recently renovated and decorated and it’s made a big difference. Staff were great and breakfast was very nice. Pool and gym facilities were good as well. This was my last chance booking for here but I’d definitely keep staying if it maintains what they’ve done
Nothing, vast improvement on previous stays
This is a great place to stay, nothing flash but excellent value for money....lovely staff and great location
Nothing
I didn’t eat breakfast. I went to work too early. I didn’t eat any food in the hotel as I am on a diet and using the Jim regularly the facilities in the gym and the swimming pool where the main reason for me staying in the hotel the hotel was lovely. The staff are great however some of the rooms are very, very dated that being said I slept well and all the different rooms I slept in. I can’t really complain.
Some of the decor is not to my taste things in the room don’t Match and some of it’s a little bit old. I know it’s an old manor house but some of that stuff is pretty Gordy for my taste.
Bedroom was beautiful Breakfast was nice Staff were really lovely and friendly
Was all good just think the changing rooms need updating in the swimming area
The staff were exceptionally kind and helpful; we have not met such good staff in hundreds of hotels worldwide.
The grand house is "tired", but a programme of restoration is planned. It should be wonderful when completed in the long-term -- especially if the brilliant staff are retained! The grounds would benefit from clearance of litter.
We love visiting here the Staff are always friendly and accommodating the hotel does need renovating however it’s clean. It’s tidy. It’s warm and it’s well worth the money.
Nice quite location. Building is set in it's own grounds. Needs some updating however this is reflected in the price. The staff are lovely. Friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good. Full English or continental available. There is a bar and a small choice of bar meals. Easy to travel to iron bridge or black country museam and seven valley steam railway. Swimming pool a good size and also a small gym. We would stay again.
Rooms could do with updating however this is reflected in the price and as there is new owners they maybe doing and updating rooms in the future.
Wasn’t happy at all didn’t even stop wrong room
Didn’t like the room were the room was and the fact I was given the wrong room
It was a lovely property. I had a 4 poster bed but the kid where put on a sofa bed and camp bed. Our first morning I reported a leak in the bathroom which was meant to me fixed when we got back to get settled for the night the room was flooded. We were given an alternative room but wasn’t offered anything for this inconvenience and the fact some of our clothing got wet.
Seemed to be under staffed with one lady doing the bar, reception and room service in the evenings. There was only bar food not full evening meals
Perfect 7 days great value for money wouldn't hesitate to come back and we will , The staff made are stay very special could not do more to look after us thank you all phil and karen room 29
We only stayed 7 days
Clean, friendly staff, lovely swimming room
A little dated and needs some care
All staff very friendly Loved spa facilities
N/A
Brilliant staff and excellent breakfast - we'll be back!
The place has had better days but lots of charm and grandeur of days gone by. Staff where so friendly and helpful clearly have an interest in the place. Needs alot of touching up in places and new carpets in others. Usually this would turn me away from coming back but there is something about this place where I'll be back. The food also reflected it was made by Somone that knew what they were doing.
Tired property
Very old style hotel i didnt like the smell inside but Staff fantastic...and very helpful
Smell inside
Underated! Clean - needs investment but I think given the chance it will come.
Attention to detail- litter pick on grounds - workmen( contractors ) conscious of guests Spa area bins emptied more frequently- tennis area tided- treatments ‘promoted’
The setting
Tired room poor choice of food and £18 for a pint of beer and a glass of wine not even good quality.
The proximity to Ironbridge Gorge.
The hotel appears to be rather run down. The bedroom was very dated and shabby. Ripped curtains at the small window, filthy dirty carpet with stains all over. Very dated bathroom. Unable to change rooms as hotel fully booked.
The surroundings absolutely beautiful.
Very dated and needs some renovation. The price did not match the quality. The room was so hot even with the fan on. The shower was very poor and needs upgrading.
We loved our stay. Staff were friendly, room was comfortable, had a great nights sleep. The gym and the pool and hot tub were great.
The breakfast was a bit bland.
Staff so friendly and helpful. . Breakfast fine to good. Nice bonus to have a pool for the price paid. So much better than some of the reviews suggest !
Car park needs work - obsolete payment signs removing and a general spruce up / hide the mess.. it lets the hotel down and was nealry bad enough to have us turning away before wr walkes in the door !
Set in nice quiet location but very accessible . Enjoyed using the swimming pool . Staff friendly and helpful
Quite dated interior and room was boiling but not sure if we were near a pump room or something because other corridors seemed cooler !
The friendly cleaner
I'll list them! Reception would not accept Scottish money-very unhelpful. Windows only opened partially. Inadequate fan for heat levels. Room dated and shabby. Ridiculous payment requirement for carpark-system to recoup this for guests but any visitors had to pay. Very poor value for money.
Location good within walking distance of pubs and restaurants. Breakfast was nice but took a very long time as they forgot our order and forgot our mushrooms. Room was big and clean but not the room I thought I booked from the pictures, when asked the receptionist she said you had to make a comment on the booking if you wanted a specific room but I was unaware of this.
Overall look of the building is very run down, spa facilities looked dirty and alot of mould on changing room ceiling, a towel wrapped round a post in the small pool, steam room not working. No music or ambience to get that relaxing spa feeling. Restaurant closed and bar menu on offer is very limited for a big hotel.
We liked the suite we had, it was really lovely with a nice outlook. A really nice bathroom.
The additional cost for a cooked breakfast as the Continental breakfast wasn't the best with no cheeses or meats and fruit selection poor and no seed or dried fruit for cereal. Shame about the steam room not working.
Has everything needed, lovely staff, it’s dated but our room was spacious, breakfast fresh, pool lovely, gym was okay, grounds pretty, location great for Telford and Ironbridge, we got a really good rate so appreciated all on offer for the price
It’s just dated
run down hotel ,looks nothing like the photos ,very hot in room ,dirty ben linen ,cooked breakfast horrible ,beer glasses left lying in hallways
The location was great for being able to get to Lilleshall and Telford but still very quiet and peaceful. Being able to use the swimming pool was a fabulous extra and we used it! Breakfast was cooked to order and very good choices.
The rooms were a little tired.
The staff were polite and respectful. The place was beautifully decorated, rooms plush. The food was wonderful. Very good value
Lovely rambling old building that could (should?) feel like a home not a hotel Great staff, could not be more charming or welcoming. Given use of leisure complex , I think it's very good value for money Great room size for the cost. Breackfast staff seem stressed but really helpful and the food was good quality and decent variety, with a genuine attempt to give people what they want and not just what's on the menu.
It's very much on shabby side of chic. The leisure centre is a big expensive new addition and it needs some maintenance already. The rooms on the hottest day of the years (38degrees outside) were spacious but stuffy and they needed the fan that had been put in for guests. Furniture is dated and worn, the rooms look and feel " 80tys beige"! But there are lovely touches throughout the building even in the modern extensions, it just feels like someone has come through and cleared every extraneous item and patched as cheaply as possible to minimise running costs. True result is a building full of potential and character that looks like it's being run in administration after a visit from bailiffs!! Better signage, fresh wallpaper, (as and when), A few more useable rather than empty rooms, and make use of all that lovely space!!! (Don't fill it, shape it, design it. Add a card table and lounge furniture use rugs in the bar to make it sound less empty more big sofas and wig back chairs not just the four tub chairs and a table for late dinners Make it a bar you want to sit in , make use of those spectacular views from the sash windows. This looks like a grand house that was shaped to emulate premier inn. Your missing a trick!
Friendly attentive staff. Quick turn around at breakfast. Fantastic facilities. Nothing was too much bother. We were moved rooms due to a broken window without fuss. Peaceful.
Nothing to do with hotel staff but behaviour of other children including older ones running around the stair cases doing laps of the hotel late evening and their behaviour in the pool on sunday morning to the point of the pool emptying of all other guests. I know everyone is there to relax and enjoy themselves but after 9pm in an evening and before 9am Sunday morning is a little extreme for people wanting to relax and start a day calmly. Nothing wrong with hotel or the staff at all.
Beautiful house
No fan offered in heatwave
Liked everything about our stay Staff was very friendly Food was lovely Pool nice and refreshing Room very clean Bed comfy Loved our stay
N/a
Clean and breakfast was good
The whole place needs some TLC it’s very dated and run down.
Old hotel that was probably a popular place back in 90's/00's. Not a lot has been invested since though which is a shame. On a positive note, the staff were friendly and the bed was comfy. All I needed for my business trip.
Nice wooded grounds. Good access to wellness centre.
Shabby. Could do with a clean in places. Bathroom window grime and frayed curtains and carpets.
The staff were very nice and the breakfast was great.
Very run down, dead flies on window ledges. Rotton window frames. Over grown gardens and paint peeling outside. No net curtains at the window and some curtains were falling off. Whole hotel needed hoovering. Once a lovely hotel, now just very tired and in need of renovation.
Great value for money, friendly and polite staff. Building is a bit tired but its good value for money, clean and tidy. Staff were very friendly.
Building is in need of upgrade but this is reflected in the price.
The staff were friendly and efficient, the cooked breakfast was very good.
Nothing
Nothing. Contact me. If I hear nothing. I will publish an accurate review of the property and my experience. On every travel site I can find.
I have emailed both Booking.com and Haughton hall directly to complain about this trip. Ive been completely ignored. Booking.com, you need to contact me or respond to one of my 3 emails. All emails to Haughton hall are undeliverable.
Excellent rooms and good facilities. very good breakfast andd friendly staff.
Small fridge in room would have been better.
Leisure complex was modern and well equipped. Staff very professional, friendly and only too pleased to assist Clean room, comfortable bed.
Very tired old building. Shame, as it was once a beautiful, grand and imposing country house. Peeling paint, rotten windows, dated decor, noisy saniflow plumbing, curtain rails ready to fall off. Room very small. Rickedy fan with a broken leg for cooling the room. Stains on carpets. Once beautful gardens poorly maintained.
Location
Cleanliness Awful breakfast
location was good.
room was above an events space that was in use until approximately 10:30pm. users left promptly, but i had a very early start the next day, so this was not ideal. used the spa once during my stay. several further attempts were unsuccessful as no staff were ever present at the front desk after 10-15 minutes of waiting. almost never anyone at the reception desk.
Location and cleanliness.. Nice rural setting and sports club.
Tired looking, faded grandeur.. Breakfast service not great
Location
Don't cater for disabled people we booked a twin room witch we had to negotiate 40 plus stairs through 3 firedoors before reaching our room. when you've been out all day exploring you don't want to be coming back and have to negotiate that again when your tired and disabled.
Nice location just outside Shifnal, a surprisingly nice little town with a few really nice pubs
Old and tired, been left to run to ruin. Looks like someone’s had a go at getting it going bit without actually investing in what’s needed. Could be such a lovely place as well. But the place is literally falling to bits. Windows don’t open or close. Paint is stripping off inside and out. The shower in my room sprayed more over the curtain than into the shower. The spa and pool needs major investment. If it rains, the pool will fill up because the glass roof lights have no seals and are open to the environment. That pool is a goldmine but they have to invest money. Breakfast was a disaster - I waited half an hour to be given a hot drink. The staff started shouting at each other in the kitchen which we could all hear, and they got stressed if you asked them where your breakfast was. Within an hour of first mornings breakfast I was on the toilet, eye of a needle. I have no idea if it was the coffee or the food, but something was absolutely not right. I could never get served in the bar. There was literally never anyone on duty. I waited at reception once for 15 minutes and not a sign of anyone. Such a shame as from here we explored Ironbridge and Bridgnorth, and there’s some fab terrain if you’re into cycling. But of the owners of this place are serious, they need to invest money. The room was ok, but no fridge. They left bottled water out when it was 30c so it just got hot. Install a fridge in each room, it costs peanuts. And redecorate the bathroom. There were loose screws around the pool and hot tub. Stand on one of them and you’re visiting Telford General. And believe me you don’t want to visit Telford for anything, what a dump. Such a shame as the potential is there. Lovely building and decent location. But it could be MASSIVELY better.
Yes, there is a lot of work to be done on this hotel, but our room was plenty big enough, telly was a good size and bed really comfy - we had a good sleep. We used the pool and sauna - we were pleasantly surprised at the size of the pool and the fab jacuzzi. Changing rooms were perfectly adequate with towels provided and lockers available. Breakfast was cooked to order and was as good as any other hotels we've been to. All staff members that we engaged with were both friendly and helpful. We'll be staying here next time we're in Telford 👍
The staff were fabulous, nothing was too much for them and always with a smile Breakfast was good and we chose a late slot so we didn’t have to rush down in the morning Never stay in such a big grade 2 listed building before and enjoyed finding out about the place.
A little run down but all is forgiven if you look pass that as it’s beautiful
The location and swimming pool
Mostly all. What could be amazing isn't. Poor food selection and quality. Poor service. No ambience. Building neglect... tired and tatty.
Location, the 2 Staff were polite
Lack of staff, . Breakfast was chaos due to no staff on reception directing parties to the relevant set up for breakfast. 1 person did everything, bar, reception waiting on? Can't be in 2 places. Very dated. Bar, has bar menu but couldn't make sandwiches due to functions going on.
Very large room, nicely decorated, very polite staff, reasonably good prices
Old fashioned, but very clean
Beautiful "imperial-style" hotel, a little bit run-down but comfortable and for a very good price. Spacious room, high ceilings. Friendly helpful staff. Good cooked breakfast.
Excellent professional helpful staff. Excellent breakfast Excellent walk in shower in bedroom.
The bedroom wallpaper was poorly put on… previous owners perhaps? Furniture very tired looking in all areas A lot of steps Entrance to the building would benefit from enhancing with fresh paint and colourful flower pots
Polite staff, good breakfast
Hotel in and out outdated, needs serious modernisation, everything is broken, worn, cracking, 100 years old, television the device itself and signal is a joke, come on its 2026 a little smart TV is the minimum, cost 50-100£ only. There is no entertainment in the room or outside the hotel. Walls are thin, noise neighbours, annoying strong led reflectors outside blinding you if you are in the window, shover head broken off the wall, corridor doors very very noisy, floor is cracking. It's alright for a must 1 night stay but definitely not recommend for longer stay. There was no money spent on the hotel 50 years ago! Sprung beds are not for your bad back.
The staff were exceptional, room was comfortable, breakfast was good. Walking distance to shifnal, where there are several pubs and restaurants. Great value for money. Wishing the new owners good luck with their plans.
Beautiful house, spacious room, very comfortable and clean. Staff were very friendly and kind
Shame the grounds were not maintained else this would have been a beautiful area to stop and have a drink at the bar and sit outside
Staff were extremely pleasant
Slightly isolated
Nice hotel. Very good staff . Just getting a bit dated
Nothing to dislike
Beautiful building with lots of character. Room was spacious and comfortable. Swimming pool was great.
It looks a little run down in places, but it is kept very clean.
Nothing
Did not stay and left not long after checking in. Pictures of hotel did not match the reality. Room nothing like pictured and very over priced. no air conditioning, terrible smell of damp. Bathroom toilet leaking, dirty bedding. Broken furniture. Dirty overall.
Nothing
Everything was dirty old smelly and should not be able to rent rooms out....
Location and swimming pool was brilliant for the kids
Food menu was horrible
Room was lovely, facilities were to. Staff very pleasant.
Long way out and needs better signage. Menu was poor for food. Grounds need tlc
Rooms and hotel very dated
This hotel is a great find. It was a perfect stopover from our road trip from London to Snowdonia. It was amazing value. The room was fine and clean, like a typical b&b. The pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room are a huge bonus. And the English breakfast was superb. We stayed here on our way home too, and we hope to come again on future trips!
The hotel could do with a refurb, but to be honest I would prefer them to keep it the same so the room costs can stay low!
Breakfast very good room large clean bed comfortable, pillows not No restaurant service but had good bar meal.
The hotel requires a lot of maintenance and there is no lift or disabled parking had i realised i would have asked for ground floor room.
Staff exellent
Food menu
Interesting country house in extensive grounds. Very different from the chain hotels.
Limited evening meal options.
Nice large room, comfortable bed great breakfast. Good blackout curtains and the fan was most welcome.
Setting, swimming pool both good
Lack of a lift or disabled access at ground floor level
